have done a pretty good job that was always sort of the ailles heel out there for that team and if they get that part right you're seeing Aaron Glenn their defensive coordinator much more confident calling manto man back defense is that high everybody and it's been if you're a lions fan that is significant Teran Arnold the rookie Carlton Davis the veteran Kiren Williams runs here for the Rams Timeout I don't know when's the last time that you live in this area the you felt like the Lions had sort of somebody who was an a-lister at the cornerback position right and clearly on this team that's Carlton Davis and the other guys have been pretty good too so Arnold Robertson and they're going to play manto man right here that is for Aaron Clen what he cares about and what he has not been able to get to with this defense FL CL off in time and Stafford throwing in FL it's intercepted by Kirby Joseph Stafford throws his first interception against the Lions in three games and a rare Red Zone turnover something they didn't do all of last year out of everything Matthew Stafford has done right in this game he blew that one he did not see the cover two man it looked like manto man everywhere but Joseph is just going to sit there as was the other safety Brian branch in the middle of the field he had no real assignment and for whatever reason Stafford just did not see that read again super rare they're the only team in the league that didn't turn it over over in the Red Zone last year he does not usually make those mistakes in year 16 at age 36 and that lion secondary you talked about one piece that's where he was at the end of last year Kirby Joseph comes up with the interception you know what it usually when you get a two-man coverage what do quarterbacks do in this league they run because you have people chasing in two deep safeties but because Stafford got hit early in the game maybe he felt like wasn't an option that's 15 seconds and go for some reason is throwing and he's brought down and sacked by Jared verse verse comes off the edge for his first NFL sack here is a rookie and the Lions who were going to get the ball start the second half anyway that linebackers Rose boom and reer got a little sick and tired of hearing how great Ernest Jones was and how they're going to fall apart without him they both played really well tonight Jack CLS to kick questionable with a knee injury then he went back in the game briefly when he came back out he was visibly upset on the sidelines and you can see him there he was cared into the locker room at the end of the half after an evaluation we just have official word from the team he has been ruled out for the rest of the game such a bummer meantime Melissa with the injury up front there's even more shifting now Bo limmer the rookie out of arkansaw is the center Jonah Jackson has moved to guard for the Rams so limmer making his NFL debut snap there to Stafford who's pressured and underneath there's nothing going for Tyler Johnson terion Arnold the rookie for the Lions joins Brian Branch it'll be third down let say Aiden Hutchinson's on Feeding Frenzy right now over on the other side and they've got people there I don't know why oh they did chip on the back end of that with Kyon Williams but I think I would want that tight end releasing or that wide receiver to get him before he got going cuz once he gets going he's a handful 10 L bring pressure Stafford holds it slings it nearly intercepted for the second time Branch diving couldn't get his hands on it and it's a three and out for La so now Mike they are taking Aiden Hutchinson and dropping him out because they're sliding so much protecting that way so they're basically saying fine bring all your linemen over here and now Rams are there for coverage position for the Lions as both teams go three and out like they did to start the first half both these quarterbacks Stafford and goof traded for each other starred for the other team over the many years neither one played in the preseason were 10 quarterbacks who were the starters who didn't see any preseason action including these two it's a draw it's Montgomery and he'll take it to the 45 y line picked up with maybe five on first down on the ground for David Montgomery's got 12 carries for 46 yds so far tonight yeah I tell you Byron Young's had a nice game over there as well we've seen him make quite a few plays in this game he and Kobe Turner 17 sacks between them a season ago and they're really going to have to pick up the slack we saw ver get the sack at the end of the half and of course Fisk a part of that Miss uh mix as well out of FSU the rookie Florida State teammates taken one and two by the Rams go throws back across the middle of the field for Montgomery gain of three as he's brought down by Christian roseboom inside it'll be third down and three coming up well once again we see the play by the linebacker Christian roseboom coming up there to make the play right at the very end and these guys really have done a pretty good job inside didn't know whether or not they'd be able to stack up in just the pure coverage element of this but so far they have and these are two good receiving backs so far this fram's defense as a whole is holding up in game one ad after Aaron Donald and we haven't even talked about all the cornerbacks they're missing we've been talking about how many offensive linemen they're missing on third down deep drop go D the shot downfield for Williams is open jamson's got it to the end zone touchdown Detroit Jamis and Williams there is a flag down let's check it thought it was on the Rams and it looks to be yeah the old dreaded double move and I think that if travius had this to do over again he would have tackled for the pass illegal contact Defense number 27 that penalty is declined touchdown white a veteran he's been down this road before he understands that speed the double moves tries to break and really almost should have tackled him at that point because if you have somebody with that kind of speed there's just no way to catch up first full off seon and he came back a different player this
