EA College Football Simulations Game 22 Old Dominion @South Carolina (8/31/24 Prediction)

[Music] welcome everyone and glad to have you with us from Williams Bry Stadium home in the South Carolina Gamecocks kcki and all of his friends ready to go and amped up for what we have in store maybe you need a little caffeine or maybe the sheer energy of this matchup will keep you wide awake as we know anything can happen when you kick off after dark as we'll see a squad from the Sun the Old Dominion monarchs taking on a team from the SEC the South Carolina game Cops for EA Sports college football I ree Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started and the Gamecock will get us underway with the opening [Applause] kickoff from inside the 10 and here he comes and the returner will be brought [Music] down the monarchs will have some work to do after that short return and when you have a quarterback like this guy the entire offense feeds off of him David everybody feeds off of his energy and the whole playbooks open because you can trust on him he's Dependable Palmer he's also one of those guys if he gets in a good Rhythm watch out this dude starts firing strikes I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points the monarchs come to the line in the hurry up running back searching for a hole brought down at the 27 it's a 5yd pickup on the play this is an offense that really sees their identity as being able to run the football nice job there picking up the first down you can barely hear yourself thinking here as they're trying to get this defense off to a good start on the ground it's young defense fills those gaps he's got one to the 28 all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he'll pull it on the read banging slithering whatever it takes to get that ball up to the 32 well I'll tell you what just watching this QB in the Run game he's going to break at some point in this game he's going to break a home run defense did a nice job getting him down there but this guy I'm telling you he's just a play away from taking it to the house keep letting this guy do his thing now they'll run the draw and excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pickup before the defense put a stop do it it's a really good sign if you're on offense here you're putting it on your offensive line on third down critical down and distance opening drive of the game let those guys fire off get a hat on a hat you can run the ball pick up the first you're around Midfield and all things looking pretty good here early for this offense when they've got him looking run now to pass the quarterback can make a big play when he starts moving around able to get just a few before sliding to avoid the hits nice job by the QB sitting back in the pocket you can tell he wants to throw the football go through his progressions nothing home take off and slide I love the slide at the end don't take a big shot and now on second down for this offense the give to the running back from the shotgun really nice stop stop there from this senior [Music] leader and the monarchs want to pick up the tempo they'll try to drive ahead on Third and short he's got first down yardage as they move it to the 4 four I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early this crowd bringing the energy and noise early wide open downfield they've got it inside the 30 they'll mark it at the 28 it's first down I know we're a long way up here in the booth but guys y'all remember that ball you can throw that whistled that thing was whistling it had so many RPMs on it the monarchs have the first and 10 the give out of the gun and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup I think throughout the week in practice when they were game planning their opening script I don't even know if they envisioned it going as well as it has this has been beautiful nice balance really nice Rhythm it feels like everything they're dialing up here on their first drive of the game is working to Perfection they're going to go right back to him on first down operating in the Red Zone here on second down Wilson to pass lets it Fly pulls it in in the end zone touchdown ODU that drive was what every father wants his daughter's romances to be like slow take your time drain the clock no hurry at all sometimes love is a slow burn that's what we just saw on that last Drive I am so impressed with the execution and I love their ability to run the football these players they're coached up they're coming out here and they are executing exactly how their coaches prepared them to do in this game and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they top it off with a 14 yd pass for the touchdown they're just about ready to kick it away here's the return from side is 10 really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so South Carolina's offense headed onto the field our first look at them today here's this offense with a fresh set of downs give to the back and they picked up nine on first down it'll bring up second and short talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense the Gamecocks headed quickly to the line they'll try the Run he makes the tackle at the 33 after a pick up of five and that's a good second down run commit to the running game Run the football great game great job by the offensive line keep it rolling with the first down they'll put it in play from the 33 they go to the ground still on his feet at the 45 and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play first down you know you always want to stab push the running game how about this offense nothing fancy run the football be physical get a big game the offense has it now at the 48 yd line first and 10 used the play fake now to throw C in the back field it's Sanders they make the tackle at the 33 but he's ripped off 15 yds and picked up a first down they built this offense around finding mismatches and just get the ball to the back and let him do his thing yeah it it didn't have to be long down the field like it threw it right near the line of scrimmage but you know I got a guy when he gets in space he can make big plays happen nice decision by the QB at the 20 he's got space and he he's brought down after a nice game yeah I tell you what when you start a game in the first quarter and you show me I will run my quarterback like you did here it makes me defend the whole field it makes me a lot more nervous you can tell this quarterback will be a threat throughout this football game and the Gamecock have it with a first and 10 going with the counter play here pull down after a gain of five it's at the 9 yd line the counter play is a great play to mix in because defensively you you're not looking for the counter you're looking to attack attack attack all of a sudden two guys pull across the formation now you got to change your direction really quickly and it keeps you off balance and really keeps you on your heels back to pass it's sers into the end zone and the throw and catch was good but you got to do it the field of play and he couldn't quite keep that foot in [Music] bounds the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first without scoring they try to pop a run on the draw able to fight his way ahead for a pickup of four but they're still left with a fourth and two down and it looks as if they're going to try a field goal and this one shouldn't be too taxing a 23 yd try right down the boulevard it's good [Music] they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last Drive he'll start the return inside his spot not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field hand off from the gun and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions and the monarchs will hustle to the line and off from the shotgun fouls through the defense nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry it's a bad sign on offense when you have that many people running free at your running back that means guys up front aren't getting their blocks just too many hats getting to the ball carrier I love his effort making multiple guys miss but still it's a negative play on Third and long no secret what he needs here setting up the screen they play that screen nicely he tried to find his way to the marker but it'll be fourth down if you know good and well the quarterback wanted to push the ball down the field wanted to throw for the first down couldn't do it cuz the defense had taken it away he did the right thing didn't turn it over dumped it off to his running back his running back got some positive yards but guess what now it's decision time it's Fourth Down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he only needs a sliver of daylight he was hoping for a little more Running Room but they're able to get him down at the 45 South Carolina ready to go on the attack in another offensive Odyssey and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and and he can make yards for it defense trying to keep this offense from getting a line on who to block got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four wide receiver now comes in motion off playaction and they got him he'll get him down for the sack playaction pass success has a lot to do with selling that fake you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play some third down conversions tougher than others this one a long one on third down from the 43 to the air it's sers lofs one high and deep and they wanted it all on third down and now dealing with fourth down offensive players know where the ball is going defensive players don't great job by the DB adjusting to the football seeing it playing the wide receiver and making sure he can't catch the football the game Cox will call on their punt team he'll try to really get into this one not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto thei field here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers ree I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here the monarchs want to move quickly they'll ride the hot hand and he'll pick up the first down after a tough run there and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job fallowing his hole getting positive yards they'll line up right at the 48 yd line on First and 10 he'll do it himself and the ball's out and they're after it they recover their own fumble somehow who knows how they got that thing backo deep breath right man you you fumble that thing you cough it up you're like oh I really appreciate you brother I can't tell you how much I thank you cuz the coaches would have been all over me but Big Time Break for the offense after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 Wilson will throw makes the grab on the left stumbled to the ground I love the QB he holds it he holds it he holds it just long enough to let the receiver run the drag route then he puts it out in front of him so he can catch it on the run in stride and then turn up field to use his speed Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down to the ground to try to pick up the first and they did not let him reach the line gain it'll bring up a decision [Music] here and the monarchs will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and that is textbook instructional video out of bounds right around the goal line def def so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty the monarchs are on the Move off play action on first down throws toward the end zone and that one Falls incomplete trying to get a chunk play on that one that's a throw the quarterback would like to have back he forced that one into double coverage that means somebody else was wide open a quarterback really needs to be better moving forward working through his progressions couldn't connect on first down now second and 10 from the 24 quarterback on the keep they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and that option game can be tricky right but nice job by the defense playing assignment football and watch the linebacker you can tell locked in on the quarterback chases him down gets to him and not only gets to him doesn't let him break the tackle gets him on the ground now on third down for this offense Wilson to pass they'll run the screen they make the Stop and that's how the first quarter will end guys Old Dominion has the lead here as we've reached the end of the quarter we put one in the books Let's have a look at our game summary heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the second they'll play it safe and send out the field goal unit he'll try to knock it through from 38 yds out Gore right down the boulevard [Music] [Music] so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up a field goal let's see what the defense can do on the run from inside his own five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 and the South Carolina offense is back on the field they'll run it from the gun just enough there to get it to the 25 a pick up of two and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs and the game Cox's in the hurry up pulls and fires it complete to the right and he goes out of Bounds at after coming up with positive yardage there and those slot receivers nowadays they're little water balls man you can play Touch football and an elevator to lose to these guys because they're so quick and so Dynamic get open and catch the football ball sitting right at the 30 it'll be third and short they'll try to move the chains on the ground he'll have enough to move the chains it's first down at the 38 well the defense is on their heels right now they're going to have to find a way to stop this guy but he's got a head of steam well he is hard to bring down the Gamecocks come to the line with a fresh set of downs might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again hits him with a stiff arm he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense when the running back gets going and gets aead of steam like that so hard to get to the ground that's why you Blitz that's why you bring pressure that's why you bring more guys in the box so you can get them before he gets going but once he got going you could tell it was hard to get a hand on him hard to get him to the ground they'll leave it with him discards a man and he'll pick up up one it brings up second and nine and you want to run the football that's okay you'll take some of these but if they start to add up down the road obviously you might want to think about airing it out a little bit didn't get much on first down it's second and nine they'll try to get the edge with the toss play here and the defense stops him just short of the first down maybe needed a few more ch pain links to move the sticks well nice job there by the running back they toss it to him and he's able to kind of weave his way for a very good game for this [Music] offense and after that last run we'll see if they keep it on the ground on third off the RPO fire right trying to convert really nice job to convert that third down and they've got it at the 33 well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression they'll give it to the back WS ahead for a pickup of one to the 32 and the Gamecocks are in the hurry up to the ground with the back defense there to stop him after a gain of three but he is inside the 30 to the 29 [Music] they're within field goal range at the 29 let's see if they can pick up a few or the first down on Third and long to the air it's sers lets it fly deep downfield and that'll be incomplete they certainly weren't afraid to take a shot there and now it's Fourth Down third and short in college football today you see so much more pass than you used to the offense stays aggressive and I think they stay aggressive cuz they know they're in field goal range they got that three in their back pocket and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight it's good he could have hit a string right in the middle of the uprights there they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets and he's able to pick his way through the traffic nicely for a good return on that one before he's brought down the give to the tailb really nice job creating his own space running with attitude he's up to the 37 yd line this defense has got to get better at tackling in the open field or gang tackling because if you need three or four guys to bring a guy down have fun with that halfway there on first down it's second and five the give from the gun crey good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 that didn't bust for a long one but now third down becomes very manageable it's not third in eternity now the whole Playbook short passing game long passing game all of it's available come to the line at the 42 facing a third and short on the option he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three [Music] and the monarchs line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away no return coming he'll call for the fair catch South Carolina ready to go on the attack in another offensive Odyssey they've had a couple of productive drives but they've had to settle for field goals in two of their three previous possessions Jesse yeah this is an offense that takes a lot of pride in execution and they feel like they should have scored a touchdown every single drive so while it's been good not great David just execute a little bit better and they could put this one in the end zone this time yeah and I think you point that out we went all the way down the field on two of our first three drives and got field goals now just a little better execution when you when that field starts to shrink and it gets a little bit more more difficult they'll run the toss at the 40 there he goes and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop I love teams that make it a priority to run the football and they have today another good run by this running back he's been doing it all night over a 100 yards on the day really really good night for this young man on the move it's Sanders that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there yeah and the running back didn't get much here but you know you clearly want to always establish the Tipo run the football be consistent make that defense physically meet the challenge the Gamecock want to crank the tempo leaves it with the back makes a man miss really good surge for this offense they move the chains and he's got it at the 34 all right defense that's that's what we can't do we can't give up this many chunk yards on the ground got to commit more guys to the lot of scrimmage got to get those running backs on the ground that's way too easy and the Gamecock look to keep this drive humming motion by the back forces the defense to adjust going to take a shot got it and he will score touchdown gamec this is a receiver that is so good running routes you never know which way he's going to go at the top of this route because he doesn't peek he doesn't Telegraph where he's going the timing on Corner routes is so important and the quarterback did a nice job getting it out early so his receiver could make the catch and then take it into the end zone ling up to attack one more onto that lead and he did get that extra point through the slippery surface no problem a very efficient five-way scoring Drive and the final 34 yds covered by that touchdown pass the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he'll keep it himself and they'll wrestle him to the ground after a short game well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen if you had his athleticism you'd want to keep it too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure he's making the right decisions moving for just going to keep it after the snap and how about that wordness and that swarming D to keep him from getting the first down well they tried to go quarterback designed run on that play but the defense just not buying it nice job everybody playing downhill and making a tackle close to the line of sers the Monarch send out the punt unit makes the catch and now looking for just a little bit of daylight coverage team gets the job done and they'll Mark him down at the 38 yd [Music] line quick release by the QB they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first [Music] down the Gamecocks moving quickly to the line looking to to throw it's sers trying to get to him it's complete on the right side and the defense coming with bad intentions they knock him down for a loss well that receiver's looking at his teammates like guys what's up you're not going to block for me on the screen seriously I I just lost yards on a screen play how does that happen this offense has a second down play from the shotgun the inside G able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down when you're a defense it is stop the run first that is your first responsibility it makes the whole game easy right now they got it going on the ground the defense is going to have to change something up these little tiny Dink and dunk Dink and dunk you keep doing this they'll go all the way down the field on you so you might want to get a little bit more aggressive coming after it that pass is well off Target he got hit as he was trying to throw and they can't third on third down great job by the defense dialing out some pressure on third down they hit the quarterback and force the incompletion and the Gamecocks will line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away all the way back to the 15 and they'll get him down after the return at the 27 yd line Old Dominion has the ball back to monarchs will send the offense onto the field the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse they just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make the play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 they'll run it out of the shotgun picks up a useful 5yd chunk out to the 30 yd line just a simple power play power football be strong be big be physical make it a fourth quarter game make them feel you keep them off balance debbs Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down Wilson will throw outside the pocket Let It Go and they fail to hook up on third down and how nice is it to have the home crowd going absolutely bananas communication is harder the snapping the football everybody being on time man this crowd really affecting the football game and the monarchs will send out the punt unit here's the return and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive South Carolina ready to go on the attack in another offensive Odyssey off the play fake on first down to throw right on the money to the outside he dragged the toe and how about the ball placement only the receiver could get it when we throwing these comeback routes man the timing has got to be so good between the two of them because you know the ball is going to be in the air a long time you can't throw it late it's going to get picked that time really nice job getting it out early and the receiver doing a nice job on his route so that the ball was right on him as soon as he turned around trying play action and the pressure was in his grill in an eyelash this defense they are tenacious and they've got guys up front that are athletic and that are so strong and they can collapse the pocket you saw it right there in that play action attempt first down sack pushes it back now it's second down looking to throw on second down catch in the middle it's Simon couple of guys there to get him on the ground they just find ways to find the big F those big tight ends are huge targets for the quarterbacks the throws are usually in between the numbers it makes them pretty easy usually sure-handed guys like that that just come across the field make plays for you it's third down now and they ought to be able to get off one more play before the two-minute warning it's the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can tack a little something extra on their lead before the break they'll run this play from the pistol they turn to the passing game on Third and short caught in the back field it's Simon they'll pick up enough yardage for the first down they've got it at the 30 third and short and I guess the only thing they really took out of play in the shotgun was the quarterback's neede yeah and that's kind of what I like to do reys I mean third and inches I I want to run the quarterback sneak run the football but this team fully comfortable throwing the football and you see why easy pitch easy catch first down fires to the wide out it's complete touchdown South Carolina puled it in and just kept right on running to the Hallelujah land defense has to be better on the back end they knew this offense was going to come out and they were going to challenge them they were going to try to push the ball vertically down the field they've now given up two touchdown passes in this game they've got to shore up their play in the back half [Music] they'll try to attack one more on their score and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 a very efficient five play scoring drive and they finish it up with the final 30 yds coming courtesy of that touchdown pass kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive isn't a must score but man you look at the scoreboard you're down two scores Jesse you got a good opportunity create some momentum cut it to a one- score game this is an important possession yeah it's important to create that momentum now David to and not wait to get it going here at the start of the third quarter you got one drive here to get a couple of points you've got to start eracing and chipping away at this deficit this could be where the game turns right here knock down immediately but a nice pick up on that one quick Tempo no huddle offense second down clock's running Wilson to pass oh almost intercepted it'll fall incomplete the defense almost came up with a turnover yeah nice coverage and you like to snag that interception but there's always a reason why these Thoroughbred athletes play defense it's usually because of their lack of hands like you just saw they're about to wear this punter out he's already been out four four times staring at a fifth if they can't move the chains this time it's complete there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer the monarchs will snap it on First and 10 he's going to pass getting some heat and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break on second down looking again to throw can't make the catch and it'll be third down he had that thing and just lost his concentration obviously when you're playing in leather like this the ball is very slippery and it's hard to catch the QB threw a bullet that time and his receiver just could not reel it in better find the earplug here comes the noise backing this defense on third down the give to the the back and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first [Music] [Applause] down and the monarchs decide to pun it away he'll take it on the return returns like that and why you don't settle for the fair catch if you don't have to picks up just a little bit of yards to help out the O they'll come out on this drive and let it rip oh and he gets downfield for the big catch touchdown game Cops and once he found open space the band might as well start playing when these offenses get in a rhythm they're hard to stop already up early got a short field take advantage of it too get another touchdown this offense is doing whatever they want to do and having a lot of success he'll try to tack on one more and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead that's the kind of Drive everybody loves so see quarterback One Snap put it in the end zone so they got the touchdown and as they kick off really important for the defense to shut them down here let's see what he can get done from inside his own 15 couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field he's going for it all he's got it on the right and he breaks into the open and he ran away from the defense to take it in touchdown oh Dominion well I'm not sure who was closer to the receiver there the defensive backs or us here in the booth that was great execution on offense receiver wins the route one-on-one shows off his speed gets himself wide open there was no question where the quarterback was going with that ball nice job [Music] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer that kind of Drive will boost your confidence One play hit the big pass put a touchdown on the board so they've got the lead down to 10 here a little more interesting as they're set to kick it away from inside his own 15 trying to follow but the ball pops out on the return it's recovered by the kicking team and they get the ball right back just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime right down the middle and that incomp complete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming well missed opportunity on offense QB and receiver just not on the same page there they'll spread the defense out going five wide on second and 10 Wilson will throw caught near the sidelines he'll pick up a few before going out of bounds and you see so many smart wide receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down in them and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players nowadays and it's third down but they're going to go ahead and try the field goal and try to get points before the break it is perfect [Music] [Music] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after the this kickoff for an answer he'll bring it back from inside the 15 they make the stop on the return and that is Priority One you don't want some big return to give up a cheap touchdown on the final way of the half that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update and it is hard to beat columia when that town is buzzing as it is today toughest job inside that Stadium right now might just be the scoreboard after all those first downs and touchdowns big plays have to find this one thanks to two of the best receiving core in all of college football let's see if these defenses can adjust and make the necessary chess moves with that said let's send it back to the guys at Williams rice [Music] all teed up and ready to go here in the second half on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 and the South Carolina offense is back on the field they'll keep it on the ground to start the second half they'll knock him down after a pick up of one to the 18 the game cogs racing to the line in the hurry up back to pass it's sers working the middle of the field and it's complete he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on throwing catch turn take your St it's got to be in a good location quarterback and receiver on the same page though ball is at the 35 it's first and 10 on the run it's Sanders they bring him down he's going to lose a yard on that one well this guy's been eating him alive all game long finally though adjustments find something positive to help slow this guy down hey baby steps right that's a tackle for a loss I know he's got over a hundo on the game but this defense is definitely going to have to be more aggressive commit more guys to stopping that bad man he's looking for an open man on second down caught over the middle it's Harvard they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goost this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his toolbox he'll try to pick it up on the ground and he's brought down after a nice game I think Jesse and REE could call offensive plays for any team if they're having this much success on the ground it starts with the ground G right like you can chew up these kind of play plays then I can play action later on and take shots but right now defense has first got to stop the run game that's been chewing him [Music] up right back to the well that's a really good job by the defense wrapping them up getting them on the ground take away that run game make them onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down scanning the field it's sers just a short pass to the tight end he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down you know David this is really what game managing is nice pick up on second down to help him on the next play yeah I think people look at that negative sometimes finding a quarterback that's a game manager or no use your brain set up good situations I'm I'm way more successful when I can keep those sticks at a more manageable situation and I'm not as predictable on a third down that pass not close as he got drilled trying to deliver it and it'll bring up fourth down yeah and this defense hadn't had a lot of success this offense has been doing what it wants at will finally get into the QB finally getting some pressure finally getting a big hit on him that'll pay some dividends down the road on fourth down they'll pass for it he's got it they convert and they finally get him to the ground an easy conversion for this offense defense not exactly the perfect fourth down called there you got to get this quarterback a ton of credit because he showed tremendous confidence on that throw that wasn't just trying to throw to the sticks that was being aggressive and throwing it down the field not a high percentage throw but he had confidence in his guy to win one-on-one and they keep the drive away block back to the air one more time oh he had him right down the middle and it just squirted right through his fingers and they missed an opportunity for a nice play on first [Music] down defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming makes the grab good throwing catch takes it down from the five as the offense tries to cash in really nice job by the quarterback understanding I needed to throw this ball hard like I got to fit it in there tight and a nice job by the wide receiver wearing it cuz he really didn't have a choice cuz he was going to wear that one regardless this is one of those momentum turning points if this defense can force a field goal attempt that is a victory for them he took a hit as he threw it and couldn't deliver the football it's incomplete and fourth Down's coming that's a phenomenal job getting after the quarterback and getting a hit on him to affect his accuracy because if they didn't get the pressure that was going to be a touchdown he had a guy wide open in the Ed Zone that was a golden opportunity but the defense comes up big and the kicker delivers the three ball to finish off the drive and now the leaves extended a little further [Music] so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away looking for an alley from inside inside his own 10 just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field power football with the run the deficit here is just 10 points David So a chance to answer here plenty of time left in this football game no need to panic this offense just has to put a couple Drives together and listen the defense will get this back and get some stop fmer and get you the football back and I think I think here too David you have opportunity to keep the pressure on the opponent yeah they just went down and scored but you score here and this game still tight you keep their feet to the fire so an opportunity here to keep applying that pressure and he's all bottled up and now it's worse the ball's loose defense just cradling that fumble and securing it fumbles are great when you force them and you're always thinking about as a defensive player but man when the weather conditions start to come down it starts to rain and you know that Ball's a little bit slick and you know more runs are coming really try to get to that football nice job getting the football out falling on top of it forc the sou car ready to go lead here between being aggressive and careful and I think they'll take that I got the lead Palmer I got the football I got take care of the football put a nice drive together and just get some kind of points on this drive no doubt lots to be happy about right now if you're this team I think for this one though on this drive it's about finding the one-on-one matchups that are in your favor and then exploiting them and the Gamecock come to the line in the hurry up shakes off the defender he's there to make the stop but not before he sets up this offense first and goal from the seventh and they say a quarterback's best friend is a good run game and a good running back I think he agrees over 150 yards on the day I don't even think I need a quarterback the way he's been running the football all game long a first down run on the doorstep he worked his way ever closer all the way down to the one yd line they showed this run in the first half right you saw they loaded up on this side Rand the football had some success what do they do in the second half pull some guys run the counter the other direction to keep the defense off balance looking for just one more yard it's second and goal quarterback keeps it he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple [Music] of they' love to make his short field payoff with a touchdown instead of settling for three but it is third and goal they'll Run play action feeling some heat didn't have much of a choice just had to throw that one away it'll be fourth down and this offense trusted their quarterback third down and short they give him the football tell him to go make a play Nothing open what does he do we're in field goal range we're in a good spot here throws the football away makes the right decision this kicker's leg is getting a work out he's already made three field goals and here he comes again and it's right down the Boulevard and that lead grows even bigger so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away he'll bring it back from inside to spot he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back out across the 20 to the 21 yd line a three yd gain you know it's so important for offenses to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down got three on first down it's second and seven they'll go right back to him tripped up at the 25 after picking up four I think you run that play on second down knowing it's going to make Third Down Easy you're not trying to hit a home run you don't need the big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High success R the monarchs want to pick up the tempo Wilson to pass knock it down back to the 16 play action game is that on a little bit longer to allow some of these plays to develop and of course that gives this defense longer to get after and the monarchs will punt it away on fourth down and these guys have been busy sixth punt of the day playing the field position game as he makes the fair catch right at the 50 and the South Carolina offense is back on the field they kicked a field goal on the last Drive Jesse they've got the lead don't make a dumb mistake but maintain your aggressive play calling yeah no doubt I think it's the play caller right now just taking a look at that script he's got in front of him and finding out where are my Playmakers who can we take advantage of on this defense to get a touchdown here yeah and just keep moving the ball down the field just execute a little bit better in the Red Zone there's no need to panic we're moving the football and we got the lead the throw to the outside is complete and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play and these quarterbacks have to really trust their wide receivers that they're going to be disciplined and run to the right route when they're throwing that ball to the outside like that because those Corners are sitting there on the inside and the worst thing that could happen is to miss inside and that cornerback get going in the other direction on on Third and short trying to impose their will and move the chains nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry nice play by the defense but now is a time they've got to be more consistent they allowed this running back to go off in that first half and moving forward now they've got to try and take this running back away the Gamecock will try to pin them back with the punt and a Precision punt there will pin and deep inside their own 10yd line ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field throws to the wide out finds a man in the middle and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up I love when you sell the run like that quarterback did right there stuck it in the belly of the running back pulls it out runs the play action great job of confusing the defense a little bit making them honor the Run and throwing the ball in the lanes right behind him out of the gun the running back has it he knock him down after he picks up five out to the 34 hey five to six yds a pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock the monarchs headed quickly to the line Wilson will throw he's moving out of the pocket he gets the job done picking up the first down then getting down he does a good job of dropping back going through his progressions nothing there what do I do go get some yardage make it positive don't sit back in the pocket and force something into a bad situation or take a sack great job making something out of nothing and the monarch will snap it on First and 10 from the gun they'll try to impose their will he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they tried to run the counter but absolutely nothing doing and those counter plays take a little longer to develop sometimes you're usually pulling one or two guys and that penetration in the back field can kill you and get to the running back before he gets started after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds and how loud is it in this building this is crazy this these fans are going absolutely nuts and I used to love when the fans got involved and I'm on defense because it messes with the snap count it messes with the communication and it can really rattle in offense and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's it's getting late and he just throws it away on third down I don't think you can give up on a play like that every defense in the country talks about getting offenses in predictable third and long situations where I can bring on more speedsters and I know the pass is coming so I can have more success the monarchs will putt this one away he's going to try to flip the field with this one he'll wave for the fair Catch and H it in at the 25 South Carolina ready to go on the attack in another offensive Odyssey boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah the expressway is wide open and they pick up a better than 30 yards on that completion before the defense brings him down and as a defense how scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do from the shotgun now here's an inside give they stop him right on the edge of the Red Zone a pick up of five to the 20 well this offense came into the game knowing they wanted to be physical they wanted to establish the line of scrimmage and they're running downhill right at this defense they're churning out positive yardage early and the Gamecock will hustle to the line dropping back it's sers find his big tight end and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from getting the first down it's not a great feeling on defense too when you're blitzing you're expecting to get a sack You're expect can get a hit on the quarterback if the offensive line and running backs pick it up uh-oh because now you have one less guy in the back end trying to cover all these receivers and tight ends and you know you're in trouble he wants to throw he makes a grab they will score touchdown Gamecock if this dude were a kitchen KNE you would be slicing tomatoes so thin your in-laws would never come back to your house well that'd be a good thing I don't know if I want my impulse to come back anyways but he's been on fire he's been absolutely torching this defense they've had absolutely no answers for [Music] it two-point conversion attempt is coming looking to throw he's got it two-point try is good as they build on this lead quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they top it off with a 14 ydd pass for the touchdown kickoff team lining up to send this one away from inside the 10yd line he'll bring it back really discipline job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 they'll go to the ground just gets it to the 28 pick up of one didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking for a physical attack from the gun on the move at the 30 really good job to pick up a chunk of yardage and get it out to the 39 yd line I'll tell you what a few more runs like that and defensively you start thinking more guys in the Box more big guys I better stop this guy cuz he's unbelievable just great job breaking off the big run and the OC is going to give him the ball some more Wilson to pass he's going for the big play and the DB making a huge play knocking it away down field well this juncture in the game with how the scoreboard looks no question this offense is going to have to throw to get back in the game and it's going to be tricky now because the defense is expecting it you're going to throw into a lot of big Zone coverages with everybody's eyes on the quarterback not going to be easy movement here from the tight end the RPO it's complete at the 45 on it way he's R big play in the passing game down in the Z did a nice job finding the soft spot on defense between the Defenders giving the quarterback an easy Tet to throw to complete that looking for space and down looks that's how end the third you want to talk about his favor receiver based on the number of guys T chance ready to go in the and we'll see if any muster didn't get much on first down second and N quick the tight end and they pick up just a few on that able to find the tight end good [Music] first and the monarchs want to move quickly on Third and long trying to have a big completion here it's caught all the way down to the yd first down excellent throw by the quarterback found the window between the zones and then delivered the ball on time has done nothing in the second half it's first and they'll run it from the gun he breaks a tackle tackle is made after a pickup of six down to the 19 yd line you know what everybody gets energized on the whole football team when you got running backs that fight for extra yards and breaks tackles it's awesome to watch watch everybody literally gets a little jolt of energy cuz that guy continues to fight for everything he gets running back goes in motion Wilson will throw and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense [Music] couldn't find his man last time now they'll have to convert third and four he'll pull it on the read nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the car how about the defensive end understanding football understanding that I got to keep outside contained I'm responsible for the quarterback good job playing his responsibility and how about getting that sucker on the ground he's a pretty good athlete to be able to gal him tackle him right in the middle of the field and get him to the ground on fourth down trying to find his man they got him it's a sack and what a stop for this defense to turn it over on Downs well that play never had a chance on fourth down they're trying to catch the defense off guard throwing for it but no protection quarterback didn't have an opportunity to step up to get rid of that football give the defense credit man tremendous aggression there on Fourth first snap of this drive comes from the 32 they'll ride the running back and leave it with him always quick to make the move and he's out to the 39 in situations like this offensively when you got the lead the fourth quarter when you got to run the ball you go back to the runs that you have the most confidence in that you can execute in your sleep and they do it right there ripping off seven yards good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three looking for a gap it's Sanders they'll move the chain after he gets it to the 43 yd line you got to have short area quickness that running back there doing what it takes to make sure he got that first [Music] down out of the gun they'll run it inside just a s stopped by this [Music] sophomore after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven from the gun they'll try to impose their running game nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry it's going to be tough sledding for for the offense here they're trying to ice this game by running the football and bleeding the clock they've got a pretty good lead here late in the game but the defense knows the runs coming right so they're going to be loading the line of scrimmage getting stops like what they just did be interesting to see what the offense does on this next one the running back has it and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop the Gamecocks will call on their punt team they'll look to pin him deep ha it in looking for space and he's going to get it up to about the 29 yd line before he's brought down Old Dominion has the ball back the monarchs will send the offense onto the field got him downfield he's got the sidelines going nuts as he gets it down to the 18 yd line it's a beautiful pass and catch I love the job the quarterback does manipulating the defense with his eyes he Froze that safety and that allowed his receiver more room to work his rout the monarchs in the hurry up from the gun give on the inside he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and that's a great job by the defense understanding exactly the situation understanding to stay home play sound no matter who gets the football we're going to run to the football hard we're going to cage the football be disciplined nice job by the defense they move the tight end all over leaves it with the back and he has a solid game before the defense bottles him [Music] up they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one the give on the inside how about this confidence in the running game and he picks up nine just short of the marker it'll be fourth and [Music] one no sign of the punt team as they will go for it and try to move those chains on fourth down they're taking to the air pocket starts to collapse got all he needed for the first down and then he gets down on the slide Hey listen it's important at that position to be able to be good off schedule everything's easy when it's on time you can get the ball at but when things break down and they get off schedule you've got to have a guy back there that can make the right decisions he did exactly that and the monarchs trying to get a touchdown on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run touchdown monarchs and they take it in for six more points I can hear the defensive coordinator in the next Booth yelling wrap up you have to wrap up bring your feet four points of contact you hear all those stuff from your defensive coaches but you know what sometimes the guy is just better than you he makes a play and gets in the endzone [Music] get splits the upright so that scoring Drive took only six plays and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two they've got it down to a two touchdown deficit trailing by 14 and about to kick it away from inside the 10 here he comes and he did a good job bobbing and weaving and finding a little bit of Running Room on that return and the South Carolina offense is back on the field from the gun running back gets to give he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well the defense finally gets a stop there but a big reason why they've got the lead right now is because of this dude to The Rock and David it just seems like he's been getting better as the game's gone on yeah and the defense all night no answers I mean he just he's shown you a little bit of everything whether it's inside whether it's outside whether it's out running people or breaking tackles this guy's been a game wrecker looking for room it's Sanders and they swarm him under yeah I wasn't sure if the offense was going to be able to dig themselves out of this hole but on second in California they dial up the running Play Now setting up third and short [Music] and the Gamecocks are in the hurry up bully ball on Third and short really nice job there to pick up the first down and get it to their own 41 that is how it's done on third down is TR no doubt about it an easy hole to get through in clearly get the first down if you really want to simplify football the low man wins that time the offense got the better of the D easily picked that up from the shotgun the hand off to the back at some point enough is enough this is the guy that's beat he's priority number one we got to go get him it's getting later in the second half I got to go out and make some plays and get my offense the ball they got nothing on the last play at second and 10 wide receiver coming across in Motion makes the grab outside it's Harbor and that defense doesn't allow a cut back and they get him out of bounds after a short game this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in priestap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's cominging out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now on Third and long he has to throw for it he's got it he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down boy the defense really needed to get off the field there and they just couldn't do it and it's a fresh set of downs man that hurts when you're trailing late in the ball game you need those stops and you get him to third down you you get them to those critical points now they get the first down you don't have many left you better get aggressive off the play fake on first down wants to throw that's caught it's Harbor I love an offense that wants to stay aggressive even when you've got the lead late in a game like this right you still try to find your Playmakers and get them the ball in space and that is exactly what this offense is doing this offense could not have executed in this situation any better just draining some time off the clock give to the running back nice move to keep moving that run epitomizes a veteran Savvy senior who knows how to find space and this drive feels like it's just gone on forever right the clock is just tick tick ticking away the defense is aware of that it's got to be frustrating because you just allowed another first down fresh set coming up you got to do something to stop this bleeding off the play fake on first down they're working that left side he'll get it all the way down to the 8 yd line and the defense is feeling the heat he's been so locked in it seems like any pass called as a guaranteed chunk play yeah and and winning late like this in the ball game keep trusting him keep spinning you know why because stats matter late in the game you want some postseason Awards keep chucking it keep getting those stats keeping it on the ground on first and goal he's got it down to the one yd line right on the doorstep of per and that's really nice offensively because you're in the Red Zone you do have an opportunity to add to your lead here but you're staying in bounds I think the clock right now is the most important thing how can we keep this thing ticking away by going down in bounds you're doing exactly that quick pass on the jet motion and they will score touchdown South Carolina he has been surgical Precision pass it using the scaffold the fine instrument rather than the blunt one the defense has had absolutely no answer for it just he's been it down their throats all game long a step ahead understanding what he's seeing and just destroying this [Music] [Applause] defense they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point splits the upright and there up a full three touchdowns a 21-point cushion in the [Music] fourth the kickoff unit about to go to work and he takes this from inside the five couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 ODU ready to send the offense back onto the field Wilson to pass they're bringing Heat hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance well it's been that kind of day here tonight they just have not been able to find a rhythm and establish that throwing the football part of it has been wide receivers and quarterbacks not being on the same page but you got to give this defense credit too just like that last play they have been getting after him they've been hitting him and that's a big reason why they've got such a big lead here in the fourth oh he's going to try to hit him over the top bage slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge game if he could have held on and the defense is playing with a sense of urgency right now obviously they're playing with the lead they know this offense needs to find a way to generate points expecting a shot on that last play so nice job in coverage they come to the line facing third and long from the 25 from the gun wants to pass quarterback floating away from pressure they they finally Coral him and he turns that into a big gain and a first down these guys aren't human anymore I mean they got to survey the field throw the football make deep passes and then guess what else they pull the ball down take off and make big chunks of plays on the ground it's just impossible to be on defense nowadays the monarchs want to crank the tempo trying to find his man on first down oh he drops the football he had him right down the gut of the field instead it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again on second down he'll let it fly makes the grab and he's brought down after a nice game Cur seems simple but when you time it like that so it's right on him man that's a tough play to stop and give the receiver a lot of credit too because he knew where the sticks were he got his depth on the route and then he came back to the football all young receivers can learn from this guy right here come back to the ball and help your quarterback out comes out throwing on first down pressure coming good job to avoid the negative play and just get rid of that thing and this is just one of those days man where everything has gone wrong right like they just haven't been in a rhythm they haven't they haven't got it going and never built the momentum this is this is one of those days you learn from you try to grow from a lot of things that we're going to show in the film room that people aren't going to like but hopefully you can learn from it and do better next time he uncorks one deep and the incomplete pass taking a shot on second down and they'll be left with a third down you know as a quarterback the worst thing you can do when you throw a go route is overthrow it because the only thing that can happen is an incompletion like it did right there the best thing to do sometimes is to underthrow because your guy can come back make the catch or fight through and get a pass interference penalty Wilson will throw didn't have anything working and just had to throw it away on third down that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you can show your exotic looks get the pass rush going everybody in the back end expecting throw that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth Downs down by multiple possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter they'll go for it on fourth down it's incomplete and the defense makes the Stop and gets the football back offense getting set for first down they'll run it to keep the clock moving able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven and the defense is still fighting they they haven't had the day that they dreamed of you know talking to the coaches coming into the game like they thought they had a good plan they'd be ready to attack and and and limit some of the damage this offense has done they haven't done it today though they got to go back to the drawing board figure some things out cuz this wasn't a great day going to run it it's Sanders One Step WRA two step this Jr knows how to get him on the [Music] ground how bold will they be on third down after that last run [Music] one [Music]
