the age difference between these two fighters now Mauricio Herrera yes he's 33 but he started boxing at 27 as Marl had mentioned and so he is not some uh veteran who is shopworn he's still a fighter who uh is not late in his career all right fans here we go with the main event of the evening 12 rounds of boxing for the unified WBC and WBA super lightweight championship of the world and now ladies and gentlemen in attendance and boxing fans joining us around the world in Vivo there the Puerto Rico it's show [Applause] time introducing to you first the Challenger on my left fighting out of the ring Corner wearing red trunks with white trim he weighed in at [Music] 100 he is currently ranked at number three Contender number 10 in the WBC his record stands at 20 wins three losses with seven wins coming by way of knockout [Music] from Riverside California ladies and Gentlemen please welcome the Challenger Mauricio elera and his opponent across the ring the defending Champion fighting under the blue Corner wearing trunks with black trim he weighed in at 139 and 3/4 lb ISU Ral [Music] de from Philadelphia [Music] psyl record stand 27 wins no losses 16 wins coming by way out knockout [Applause] tonight making his six World title appearing The Undefeated and defending W and wc super lightweight champion of the [Music] worlda Danny Swift Garcia [Music] [Applause] a once again a referee in charge now to give instructions Roberto Ramirez [Applause] senior hey hey up okay [Applause] Danny Garcia 5 and0 in world championship fights including stopping Mexican legend Eric Morales and British star Amir Khan for Mauricio hia he said that his Camp was the toughest and the smartest he's had he he didn't want to elaborate though this is the dream for him as well the bell and round one scheduled for 12 for Danny Garcia's unified 140lb title the champion in the red and black tiger stripes Herrera in the red with white much different challenge for Danny Garcia in his last fight against matis Herrera is a boxer who throws a lot of Jabs every is 11 more Jabs per round than Garcia so we'll see that punch a lot I'm to keep in mind about Garcia he's regarded here as the puncher and Herer is going to box but Garcia boxed very well against matis when he was uh when he had a box last fight and also Dan Garcia was a very good amateur he won a lot of top amateur tournaments so he can box if he has to although his reputation is to punch the pointer R and crowd chanting Danny in unison as Herrera moves in working the body and on the exit it was Garcia I who flashed the jab in 27 previous fights Garcia's fought 152 rounds averaging just over five rounds as he attacks the body with the right hand see Herrera trying to mix the jab up and down just trying to give Garcia different targets or trying to use different targets at Garcia herrera's 23 previous fights have lasted 162 rounds averaging seven rounds each as he attacks the midsection with the dab jab he's landed that jab to the stomach very well early on Garcia with the straight right hand walking down the Challenger was an interesting question as to whether Herrera would get Garcia to come after him right away he has and Garcia told us if I have to go after him I will and look at he's Landing big punches already early though know this herrera's never been down in a fight and never really been hurt and he was hit with big punches by provodnikov and alvado so he's a great champ yeah Herrera has a pesky style you know he knows how to hang in there and win rounds when needed Garcia's never been down as a pro either as they are at Close Quarters under a minute remaining in the opening round Garcia faints the jab goes downstairs with a right hand to the body and that left hook you'll have to watch for Danny Garcia he says it's from his mom's side everyone on her side of the family's left-handed and that left hook has produced stoppage winds over a Morales Amir KH and in his last fight in his hometown of Philadelphia in October 2010 versus Mike Aris his right hands not bad either the two best punches Garcia land at this rounds thus far have been right [Applause] hands so a bit of a getting to know you round here in the first three minutes Herrera again attacking the body with the jab that's we're committing to that jab to the stomach and it has worked as the an accidental headbutt [Applause] there all right Al tell us what each of these competitors needs to do to walk away with the title we look first at Danny Garcia uh I think he I thought he needed to make Herrera lead but he's been very effective in going after him counter punching will be effective if Herrera comes forward but those things have gone out the window the left took of course is a big Power Punch for Danny Garcia and we will see that flash through this fight so it's going to be a different kind of fight for Garcia let's go over um to Mauricio Herrera he's got to win the battle of the Jabs his jab was kind of dormant in round one he did not throw combinations yet and so far he hasn't been hit by the left hook toward the end of the last round there would be a a clash of heads and it was kind of to the cheekbone of uh Garcia's where it ended up Landing but luckily it doesn't look like there were any cuts that came from that now I got to say herrera's jab was working to the stomach he landed a couple of sharp Jabs to the stomach but he hasn't gotten it working to the head yet Garcia has suffered numerous Cuts in his previous fights while Herrera has been cut just once in May of last year against jiun Kim round two begins sorry Maro but the left eye of Mauricio Herrera often swells it swelled shut against provodnikov and alvado so that's something to look for if Garcia l see an example the peskiness of Herrera there in the inside in a clinch he's trying to move his hands and and just land those little little baby shots Garcia tries to load up some left hookes [Applause] here and what those little shots will do they'll keep Garcia busy you know and maybe it'll prevent him from setting up the big bomb which is what Herrera doesn't want to let Garcia do Herrera continues to Target the body with the jab Garcia's fight is all about positioning he wants to keep himself in punch position at all times times well balanced land a partial left hook there Herrera targeting the body but not following up with the overhand right as he gets or tries to get Garcia to drop his hands and now this is where Herrera is probably going to be most comfortable at Close Quarters in the clinch as the jab was stuck by Garcia now Herrera though is starting to get that jab un tracked a bit better in this round and he's giving Danny Garcia enough move and enough angles to make it a little hard for Dy land his power punches lead overhand right by Herrera connected Midway point of round number two there's a triple jab by Herrera and that's the thing about uh Maro you just mentioned he doesn't follow up a lot but what he's doing here he's preventing Garcia from setting up any offense it may create some frustration it maybe cause some mistakes and Herrera with the advantage in the jab so far in this round that's what he wants those are the kind of numbers he wants to see posted and Garcia G's head just got popped back by a shot but there's Garcia with a lead right hand to the side of herrera's head and again Herrera continues to Target the Torso of the champion Mauricio Herrera is fighting the kind of fight he wants to fight he's showing us his defense there he SLI the right hand his jab is working over over time and he's showing you combinations he can throw them 45 seconds left in the second round this is what I mean right here you see what Herrera is doing he's just trying to keep Garcia uncomfortable he's keep moving his hands while Garcia is trying to clinch and regain position it's the little things like that that can cause frustration Garcia's whole game is to maintain position so he can set up the big bombs he likes to be comfortable even if he has a patient stalking approach double jab there's a lead left uppercut by Garcia that connects double jab again to the midsection followed by a right hand to the Bread Basket by Herrera counter right hand a couple of them over the top and Herrera motioning to the referee the last one was a rabbit punch but a veteran move by Garcia you see he caught the the jab of Herrera and held it out there so he can throw the right hand over the top of it good second round for the challengers the champion comes on in the dying seconds of round two Ruben Rodriguez in Puerto Rico in front of a very festive crowd been making noise all night long leading up to this main event as again they clinch right away Herrera coming in close and again with the jab to the sternum you know Herrera landed a nice rightand of M I want to point out this is the second longest playoff of Garcia's career 182 days almost 6 months so you know you got to look at this and say could that have any impact on him in terms of ring rust he told us in the fighter meeting he wants one more fight at 140 before moving up to 147 where of course the big priz is landing a shot with pound-for-pound Monarch Floyd Mayweather Mayweather of course getting ready to face Marcos Maidana on May 3rd in Las Vegas as Garcia now goes to the body so while we last round showed Herrera with an edge in the jab department when it comes to the power punches according to show stats The Edge belongs to Garcia tail of two different FS well and we would expect that though Herrera has landed some nice hooks like that one in overhand rights so it's uh it's an interesting fight and they're not going to have the wait of Garcia's power punches but what they do again they're keeping Danny busy they're keeping Danny from setting things up look Danny add of frustration I mean Danny is a good enough fighter to cut the ring off he's not cutting the ring off when a r backs up as well so again it is maybe overthinking on the part of Garcia and Garcia's not used to being the aggressor he truly is a counter puncher for the most part uh as a fighter but this is exactly what Herrera told us he wanted out of this fight he wanted to make it uncomfortable he wanted to make it ugly for Danny Garcia now holding the back of his head and clubbing him with a couple of right hands being admonished by the referee lead left hook to the side of the head there that was partially blocked by herrera's glove again it's about positioning for Garcia he needs you to commit Herrera doesn't fully commit to the shots so it's hard for him to land those counter punches Garcia a lot of times walks you down and doesn't give up ground when you throw at him so they can maintain positioning to land his bombs on top of your offense 60 seconds left in the third round Garcia a boxer since he was 10 years old a lengthy Amer career where he went 107 and 13 including a victory over Terrence Crawford who earlier this month defeated Ricky Burns to win the WBO lightweight title and here comes Herrera Garcia misses with the counter left hook and Herrera doing something smart he lands a couple of shots and causes a clinch lands a couple of shots and gets out it's nothing spectacular but what it's doing again it's preventing Garcia from setting up his own offense and it's frustrating him there Garcia cuts off the ring a little bit here and that's what you want to see and there goes Herrera again just causing a clinch once he lands a little combination again nothing spectacular but effective in neutralizing [Applause] Garcia coming up on the final 10 seconds of the the third round Garcia and Herrera remain At Close Quarters with punches in the clinch we are headed to round four of this Championship [Applause] Affair we've completed the first quarter of this fight scheduled for 12 for Danny Garcia's unified 140lb Crown Herrera gets off to a fast start again attacking the body with his jab Garcia walking him down Herrera clinches and they try to get dominant position in that clinch before being broken up by the referee Roberto Ramirez Senor bcia trying to get the jab working this round and sometimes it's good just to get back to the basics a little bit and reset you know I made the point that Mauricio Herrera with his fights with provodnikov and Alvarado to the very best 140 Pounders in the world this is not new territory for him Danny ker is a very very good fighter but it's not like Mauricio Herrera and we can see it already he's not intimidated he's in this fight and he's here to to try and get a win and he's kind of taking the crowd out of it you know I mean the crowd is not really into it like they were at the beginning of the fight left hook by Garcia right hand almost behind the head and then there's a left hand to the body by the champion and now things begin to pick up here in round four again the jab to the solar plexus by Herrera Garcia just this is with the left hook double jab from Herrera received a ringing endorsement from welterweight champ Timothy Bradley saying Herrera can box Bradley has often used Herrera to prepare for big fights so Herrera is a gamer Danny gar has thrown better power punches this round but hasn't landed a lot of them and you know he's a left hook artist and he's had a hard time getting that punch on track in this fight but he's gotten the jab going a little bit more this round and it's he's been able to create enough space at times to land a couple of right hands and short left hooks there he goes again with the jet nice jab from Herrera through the guard lead right hand by Herrera as they clinch again both working the body to break a minute left in [Applause] the gcia along the ropes again Herrera just firing off that jab twice ducking underneath the left talk of Garcia terrera cutting the ring off there as as Garcia tried to escape Al he lets him off now I think Garcia smart trying to set up the jab as there kind of th a light jab Drew out a jab from Herrera and tried to counter over the top of that sometimes you can start setting traps with your own jab and he has R has made uh he has made Garcia come to him and no way G Garcia is going to be a counter punching when he's doing that 10s left in the fourth round Danny Garcia defending his unified 140lb Crown against the gritty Mauricio [Applause] Herrera up to the fight gar Angel Garcia's been rather mellow and there's a sense of urgency as Herrera starts with a very crisp jab and Garcia looks to work the body and we mentioned Garcia's lengthy amiter career earlier for Herrera he went 31-2 as an amiter and he feels that his lack of Amer background helps him because he's off Rhythm and doesn't fall into predictable patterns you know Herrera only has seven koos obviously in all his fights and he said he jokingly said they call me uh the pillow puncher pillow hands but you know what forget all that the fact of the matter is this guy throws a lot of punches he's accurate with his punches and as I said he's fought on this high level so he's a handful in there showing his and he wants to continue to frustrate Danny Garcia and when a grown man hits you believe me it's never pillows guys I mean the difference punchers are concussive punchers but every punch actually hurts well put oh oh and there was a stiff right hand from Herrera they kind of both landed shots there and that's where Garcia is a counter puncher he's different he's a different kind of counter puncher than most people he'll never take that half step back he'll kind of walk you down hold his ground and counter punch you from there where herrera's made him pay for that is that he's kind of landed his shots and then and then smothered him so Garcia in order to be counter puncher in this fight needs to give ground at times and he's kind of trying to give ground but doesn't really know how to find that distance to counter punch Herrera doing a good job momentarily cutting off the ring before Garcia able to Circle away eats another jab however and Herrera attacking the body Garcia a little [Applause] agitated left hook to the side of the head by Garcia as they exchange Jabs and again Garcia trying to keep his jab working this [Applause] [Music] round and terrera has been walking Garcia down the whole time but this might be by design by Garcia although herrer could have cut the ring off there I agree he he's been wanting to make Herrera come to him so he could counter Punch Yeah different maybe a different approach there another very close and competitive round and you're going to start having to ask yourself how are the judges seeing these rounds many of them are close here y although you can feel the urgency on Angel Garcia's part so he's not sure his son is winning them all certainly again Herrera leads with the jab his calling card crowd trying to Rally Danny Garcia there's a three- punch combination by the champion misses with the left hook it's again Herrera able to smother the champion off but right before that again it was an example of Garcia's approach working where he doesn't give ground he counters you right from there when Herrera doesn't smother correctly Garcia is able to land those counters four Jabs in a row two to the body by Herrero and they're pesky they're they're they're keeping Garcia busy they're frustrating him Mauricio Herrera as round six is underway open foring [Applause] in the they announced the open scoring as we mentioned earlier after four rounds two one judge had it a draw 3838 one judge had it Garcia 40 to 36 and another judge had Garcia 3937 which differs from our are unofficial ringside scoring yes which has Herrera Hadad 3937 on all of the scorecards mine Steve farhood and Paulie malagi so that is after five rounds I should point [Applause] out the guy that had Garcia up four rounds oh good shot there by Garcia he's probably watching a video of one of Garcia's earlier fights in his career I don't think he's watching this fight Herrera known for his defense and doing a good job of rolling with the punches and just as Paulie mentioned earlier smothering Garcia's defense has Garcia along the ropes again crowding him working the body with the right hand at Close Quarters just past the halfway point of round number six again Garcia is taught to make all those punches count I I think here with a guy like Herrera you got to throw have a couple of throwaway punches you got to have punches where you you're using them as bait to set up other power shots Danny Garcia style is a bit different he he steps hard into every punch and it's hard to catch a guy like Herrera cleanly when you're throwing everything hard good one-w combination by Herrera nice left hook counter to the body by Garcia maybe his best punch of the fight I should correct myself it was our score after four rounds was 39 not five rounds was 3937 on behalf of Herrera I had it 39 38 after four cuz I scored the fourth round 10 okay all righty other than that we got this cleared up God I like that open scoring 40 seconds left in the sixth round Garcia coming forward there's the jab double jab from Herrera keeping Garcia at the end of that jab herrera's been walking down Garcia for a good chunk of the fight now there a counter right hand by herrer over the top Garcia's done some good counter punching in this round so the question will be whether the judges liking that or herrera's aggressiveness oh Herrera definitely initiating most of the offense with the jab there's herrer Garcia looking for that left uppercut he flashes the jab walking down her now but there's the jab popped off by The Challengers we had to the second half of this title fight and smothered right after have to hold his ground against the guy who's pesky and looks to smother you you just end up getting smothered Garcia's father and trainer Angel saying you better wake up as we begin the second half of this championship fight Garcia's been on quite the role having fought ker former Champions at six of his last seven fights and interm champ of the other all victories as Herrera continues to pop Garcia's head back with the jab Garcia countering with the left hook to the body Herrera even landed a good right hand earlier on in the round and he's making the fight he's following Garcia around and look look at this even roughing him up a little bit the only thing could probably do better here is cut the ring off a little better cuz when he's got Garcia Retreat he's following him instead of cutting the ring down there Herrera making the necessary footwork as Garcia pivots to the center of the ring and Garcia now looking to Target the head there's a jab by Garcia Garcia wants to get going he wants to get that jab going you kind of can throw off the the other guy when you can jab with a jabber you don't hook with a hooker in this case Garcia is the hooker but he can jab with the jabber Garcia misses with that left hook jab tags the chin of Garcia so the jab has proven to be very effective for the Challenger Mauricio Herrera thus far in the first half of this fight and continuing to be so in the beginning of the second six rounds we are scheduled for 12 for Garcia's unified 140b Championship moral rello along with Hall of Famer Al Bernstein and Paulie malagi who will challenge Shawn Porter for his Welterweight Title coming up on April 19th and if you look at the face of Mauricio Herrera maybe a SM of mark underneath the left eye when he fought panov and Alvarado by now in that fight his left eye was really swollen so he's gotten through this relatively unscathed while fighting well and again right there he smothered Garcia Garcia was looking to hold his ground and counter but by the time he got his punches off Herrera was already in his chest smothering the counter final minute of the seventh round the jab from Herrera the right hand does not connect now attacking the Red Basket again there's a jab from Garcia but doing a really nice job of continuing to stick that jab and frustrate the champion and you know this is a pretty close round the punches are not that different but just said Herrera is thrown more and uh been the aggressive yeah he's been the aggress here you know Garcia will be nice move there by Garcia but Garcia would be well served and start fainting a little bit too there's a good shot now the crowd beginning to cheer on Danny Garcia may be seeing some life in the champion here in the final seconds of round seven Herrera staying composed continuing his motus uper rendi AB using that jab to the body so we head towards the finish line of round number seven it's been a very tough fight thus far for the champion Danny Garcia see Angel Garcia telling Danny to slip over to the left that is a designed move by a lot of Puerto Rican Fighters or or Fighters that are taught in the Puerto Rican style of fighting is to set up and that left hook so that you get a lot of momentum and weight behind it there's a left uppercut to the body by Garcia the champion in the red and black the Challenger Mauricio Herrera in the red with white round eight underway here in Puerto Rico you know one of the points about the the scoring is how many of those Jabs to the body that are landed by Herrera are being scored by the judges he's thrown a lot of them and they've landed you know efficiently it's not that they've been blocked but how many of those that's a punch that not off you don't see all the time and is it being scored right Cross by Herrera paully is the jab to the body considered the scoring blow right yeah yeah of course why wouldn't I don't think it's a matter of the judges not scoring the punches I think it's a matter of the fights in Puerto Rico and it's going to be hard for get a decision we should question Jud that's another question I think it has anything to do with with the jab being scored or not it's supposed to I mean point and it's a punch you don't see all the time and when it lands people don't often you know they may not give it credit of course we saw Marcos Maidana used that jab to the body to set up the left hook that knocked down Adrien broer B yeah he's going back to what Angel told Danny slipped over to the left the problem is here it you it works on guys who throw conventional punches Herrera throws in weird Styles he kind of jumps in with his right hand so if you're going to slip To The Left Hand by the time you throw the left hook he's already smothering you your hook there's a left hand to the body by Garcia the fans here in Puerto Rico becoming a little restless with what they're seeing from the champion who's trying to get on track now against the very tricky Challenger Mauricio Herrera there is a combination to the head and there's credit to Garcia he's taking what he's given and that's a left hook to the body maybe a left uppercut it's hard to land the left hook on Herrera he stays down too low coming up on the final 60 seconds of round eight so far in this fight Herrera according the show stats has thrown over 260 Jabs and landed 84 Danny Garcia has thrown a little under 200 that's kind of what you'd expect but herrera's controlling this fight to some degree with that punch continues to walk down the champion Garcia using his footwork attacking the body with the left hand misses with that left took as again Herrera cont content to just smother the champion then flashing the JB these are not easy rounds to score they really aren you know I think carrer is doing some very very good work here but these are tough rounds to score they taking those body shots when they're giving to him you know I say is not cutting the ring off as he can step to his right a little better but maybe he's doing that by Design he doesn't want to step towards the left h of Garcia exactly I agree Garcia grew up watching Mexican legend Julio sear Chavez and his proficient body work didn't use go to the body much in the first half of this fight but here's a quick flurry as we go to round nine instruction by Angel Garcia if he can bend his knees a little bit more in the clenches it'll allow him to work better and not be at work in there if you stand too straight up in those cles you're not going to have any leverage to be able to work we're into round number nine Herrero with a cut under his left eye cut for the second time in his career we talked about the fact his left eye was swollen shut against rusam provodnikov and Mike alv verado and now Herrera walking down Garcia again clinching him and the right hand of the body followed by a right hand to the side of Garcia's head even though Garcia has made Herrera kind of come to him in these last few rounds and I think they've been very close rounds he's not been able to counter quite as effectively as he would like you know Herrera had eight weeks to train for this fight you alluded to it earlier Maro not always the case with him and I think true to his word he came here prepared nice jab there off the faint and it caused that it it made Garcia jab at the wrong time and the overhand right counter landed for Herrera triple jab by Herrera just a messed up Rhythm by Herrera hard to time that's exactly what he said right yeah Garcia's got to work it's tough he's trying to fight conventional it's hard to fight a guy like Herrera so conventionally things that will usually work won't work so you got to get back to your Basics Garcia trying it at times with the jab but he's he's looking for too many complicated things he's got to simplify things a little bit right uppercut by Herrera known for throwing an incredible number of punches but still operating as a boxing oriented counter puncher who's tougher to hit than typical volume guys and that has been the case here as he continues to use that jab to keep Garcia at Bay Garcia sticks the jab however a short right uppercut Inside by H up about 20 seconds ago you saw Garcia try to counter with that left hook it's what his father tells him Bend to your left throw the hook when when when Herrera still on the right hand it it is hard he Herrera got underneath it because he's coming in head first he's getting underneath the left hooks that's why the left up cuts are working more F beginning to once again boo there were cheers of Danny at the beginning of the fight but not that impressed with what they see thus far and that's exactly what Mauricio Herrera wants to hear I'm sure who who would have thought that Lucas vti was going to be less effective at walking down Danny Garcia than Mauricio Herrera even though mati had his moment straight back there he just blew up Danny Garcia's face of blood with this beautiful combination Herrera has Garcia along the ropes and now that was a great point the reason he's being able to walk Danny down is because Danny cannot figure out how he's being set up no matter how hard or soft a punch or fights a fight or fighter punches good exchanges here and now the crowd beginning to Rally Garcia Herrera tries to smother him again Garcia working the body there's a chopping right hand coming up on the final 10 seconds of the ninth another strong round for the Challenger as Garcia wants to try to steal it in the final seconds of the [Applause] round you cannot figure out how you're being set up you're going to go backwards D's done a great job and also cman [Applause] round 10 underway steady stream of Jabs from Herrera they just announce the open scoring here from the WBC and Danny Garcia after eight rounds leading 7874 it was after the eighth round I should point out uh and our score during that same period of time we had a 7775 for uh Herrera so after the eighth round the two judges three judges had Garcia had two of them by as many as four points so I know that sucks some of the drama out of it for some of you but the fact is we have to report [Applause] it one minute gone in the 10th Miss one of the judges has it for Herrera 7775 counter left H by Herrera I got this an ultra competitive fight here it's a shame one of the judges is missing it he's so close in the ring yeah well one what a shame Co one of the judges with Herrera and two for Garcia at this juncture in the official score there's a good combination by Garcia the fans reacting favorably but Herrera Standing Tall delivers another jab Garcia leading with the left hook misses with the left hook upstairs Herrera in the in the eye of the storm staying very focused utilizing that jab like he was offenser and again a grown man hitting another grown man it still hurts Garcia fighting with a fighting Spirit here Garcia getting that hook and from time to time he lands a really good left hook not as often as he would like as course and Garcia gives ground it's not cuz he's hurt it's cuz he can't figure out how he's being set up automatically a person will back up and try to reset he can't figure out he's being set up lightning quick three punch combination from Danny Garcia the final 45 seconds on the 10th Nails him with a white and that's what you want to see these combinations right here and the counter left from Garcia Herrera trying to batter the body Garcia doubling over tell you Herrera came very well prepared for that left h of Danny Garcia gets underneath almost every time misses that one as [Applause] well that three-punch combination blocked by Danny Garcia who finds himself along the ropes again they clinch 15 seconds left in the [Music] 10th here at the colos Ruben Rodriguez s bamon Puerto Rico we are headed to the championship rounds Garcia versus [Applause] Hara round 11 the beginning of the championship rounds of what has been a competitive battle between daddy Garcia and Mauricio Hera and let me explain I messed this up before after eight rounds the official WBC scoring was one judge had at 7874 for Garcia one had it 7775 for Garcia and one had it 7775 for Herrera now that was after the eighth round so who knows where we're at at this point but that gives you a guide post of what the official scoring actually is for this fight and that indicates it's certainly well within the parameters of either man winning that's 7874 scorecard for Garcia that's what a shame that judge is it's a shame when you're so close to the ring and you miss such a good fight there's the jab from Garcia Herrera along the ropes Garcia now beginning to unload Herrera pushes him back with the jab Garcia going for more this round here he's stepping up left off behind the Year by the [Applause] champion again pesky Shots by Herrera just enough to keep Garcia off balance not nothing that's going to really do a lot of damage but still annoying and enough to cause that bleeding from that [Applause] nose and our unofficial scorecard uh after the 10th round we all have it for her Herrera and uh a wider margin by by Steve farhood and Paulie than I have this would be very interesting well like Garcia maintaining that distance here first a sign of a little bit of fatigue from Herrera he stayed on the ropes a lot this round and it's allowed Garcia to get some distance a left hook the right hand and the crowd of course responding to everything Garcia throws and in what was otherwise a good round for Herrera now he may be giving it away to Danny Garcia in these final this final minute s there's a chopping right hand by Garcia then backing away Herrera now has Garcia along the ropes and it's Garcia who Smothers Herrera for a change oh and Herrera with those left hands and this crowd in Puerto Rico trying to will Danny Garcia onto another successful title defense he's been in the trenches with Mauricio Hera final 30 seconds of the penultimate round [Applause] Herrera again Landing the jab Garcia resetting flashes his own jab then to the body with the left 10 and those little faints of Herrera just disrupt the timing of Garcia although he's had himself a pretty good round the 12th and final round is in our sights here in Puerto Rico Garcia lands the left counter right from herero Danny Garcia at the end of the round had early on in the round did some good work as he put Herrera on the ropes now Herrera had done some very good work himself early in round but at the toward the end of the round Danny Garcia with Herrera showing a little maybe a little sign of fatigue backing up he was able to get Herrera against the ROP and throw some good shots but you see even there not everything Landing a lot of those blocked by Herrera see Herrera even waving him in yep stay that take a deep ladies [Music] gentl easy easy should tell you that Danny Danny Garcia is 4-0 in 12 round fights while Herrera is 1 and0 the 12th and Final Round begins here in Puerto Rico the champion Danny Garcia the Challenger Mauricio Hana Herrera stalking Garcia along the ropes Garcia coming forward and clinching the over hooks it's possible ARA took the last round off to save it for a big 12 round let's see comes out stalking and again getting underneath the counter left hook of Garcia they came very well prepared for that big left hook of Garcia we asked him at the fighter meeting is the left hook what you're most concerned about he said yes but also the right hand but you're right he was ready for that see gar pushed him off there to create some space for the hook Garcia rolling with these punches along the ropes there's one of those Jabs to the the midsection and it set up the Jabs the right hand by Herrera and the stiff jab from Garcia again pesky Style just a disruptive Rhythm right hand to the body left hand upstairs by Garcia jabed to the body by Hana pass the one minute Mark of round 12 merely as a guideline but at this point according to show stats 198 punches landed by Herrera to 189 for Garcia so you see how close this fight should be on the scorecard just as a guideline to show you where this fight punches are being landed Herrera tag to Garcia with the right hand walking down again working the body momentarily Garcia clinching him trying to fight out of the clinch coming forward with the lead left hook there's a right hand through the guard by Garcia rcia fighting more on the back foot this time this round again see the blood coming out of his nose but he's letting go of those combinations little he's finding a little bit of distance for those combinations a little but the jab and the combination punching are Herrera in this round very composed The Challenger showing plenty of guts and plenty of chionship fight you know what it is Garcia's fighting off the back foot he's throwing some combinations here and there but he's not using his jab if you're going to fight off the back foot keep that distance with your jab and then set up those combinations left talk counter by Hana final 45 seconds of the championship fight Garcia's title may be hanging in the [Applause] balance get in here again Garcia not bending his knees like his father said a couple of rounds ago final 30 seconds H colon both scores about 116 to 112 in favor of the winner and still Champion Danny go Garcia and by the hair of his jitty chin chin Danny Garcia escapes Puerto Rico with his championships intact a majority decision win remaining undefeated as he beats Mauricio Herrera but I don't know if beat was the right word it was a close fight guys this evening this was a very very difficult fight for you how would you assess your performance and he just kept boring in and boring in how difficult did that make it for you well first of all I want to thank God for giving me to strength I want to thank Golden Boy promotion Showtime Al Heyman Team Garcia my whole camp and all the badas that came out to support me today thank you um he just kept boring in how difficult did that make this for you you know he's a he's a crafty veteran and I know every time I step in the ring um every Contender everybody I fight wants what I got so they're going to train their hard out they're going to give everything they got and I I expected everything he brought to the table he's he's a good fighter and it was a good challenge how much did it throw you off that he was so prepared for your left hand and your left um you know I just had to make adjustments I just had to push the fight he's he's a good fighter and um I'm a true champion I make adjustments like I said everybody's going to come fight me they're going to come to fight they're going to bring their aame so I got to make adjustments and I got to pull them out Angel got after you after the fourth round and as the rounds went on did you feel as though you were in trouble no he was he he was he he was a little crafty I know how to make adjustments and and find um my like find my um my comfort zone my comfort zone and once I started pressuring them and uh getting them on the ropes and let my combinations I knew I was doing good did you feel as though you were able to settle in at some point because you were way ahead in the power punches what enabled you to have that confidence with this guy just you know just constantly boring in um you know I just had to keep my composure and throw power shots um you know I was trying to knock him out in front of my fans um but you know he's a tough guy and he he kept fighting would you ever thought that this was more difficult than what Lucas matis they had for you you know um man that's you know that's that's that's what it is when you're the champion everybody's going to come after you everybody wants some what I got so I know nothing's going to be easy from this point on for the rest of my career you're here in Puerto Rico do you feel as though you had any home ring Advantage obviously the fans were for you one judge had it equal the other judge had it by Four Points both of them had it by four points do you feel you had any advantage here yeah I know I thought I won the fight I thought I won the fight well as Advantage as the judges no they're um they Fair judge just in addition just being here oh no no man of course the Puerto Rican F here to support me I love them oh my what's up what will you do now you would indicated in the meeting that you would like to stay one more fight at 140 if so who would that be and then move up you know um fighting at 140 I did a lot at 140 I think um kind of making a weight might have affected my performance a little bit um but um you know I got to S with my camp and see if I go up to 147 and start and start a new Journey up there I've been fighting at 140 for 8 years already since the amateur so you know it's it's it's it's getting a little hard and I'm I got to think about maybe moving up and the 182 day layoff did that have any effect it's the second longest layoff you had had was there any rust um I don't think it was a rust um cuz I stood in the gym um I trained hard and you know he just um Big Ups to my opponent Maurice Herer he just came to fight man and he he made it a great fight that's that's it no excuses he came to fight and it was a fight and we gave the fans a great fight Danny congratulations all right k [Music] Mauricio you fought a very game fight and you were very well prepared how much did your experience coming into this fight with the folks that you had fought help you and enable you to put you in a position to pull this off Oh I thought I was uh fine tune I came uh perfectly prepared for this fight uh wasn't tired in there you know I was trying to push the fight uh you know I I was going to come to box but he wasn't pushing anything wasn't making fight so I I the one I had to put the pressure I thought I I I went to make the fight you know and I thought I started off a little slow and it started coming in at the end stronger did you feel as though you won the fight yes I feel won the fight I feel I landed more punches you know a lot of his shots were were uh were getting from the crowd you know a lot of a lot of screaming for every shot that was missing they weren't Landing um I thought I finished strong at the end too so I I thought I won the fight I thought it was close but I thought I won the fight terrific fight thank you so much appreciate it thank you so much uh thank
