for you out and uh one of the favorite things I started to do last year is these postgame pods we had a little bit of voicemails that we used to do last year we'll bring that back I didn't want to necessarily pull it out for the Murray State game I didn't think you guys be too fired up about anything that the Missouri offense or defense was doing against the racers but uh good showing from the boys in the black and the gold football is back man it feels good to have football back there that little flurry points the Missouri Tigers scored early on made me feel real nice made me feel the warm and fuzzies that football seasons back super excited packed house over there at fough field wish I could have been there I know I know drink one of me there I couldn't make it everything we got going on here at Casey Sports season starting up soon couldn't quite swing it but I'm here for you guys I'm here for you give you this postgame show we'll talk a little bit about some of the things that happened some of the things that might not matter some of the things that might matter and all the stuff in between uh so we'll take you through there we'll first go through the drive chart talk about some of the things that stuck out to me looks probably going to be not that long of a show because again Missouri wins 51 to nothing not a very stiff defensive performance there from the muray state Racers again a FCS team that was du and night a season too they have a new head coach 60 new players on their roster astonishing that is more than NFL rosters have they have more new players than NFL rosters carry players actively on game days they 46 active game day roster 53 man usual roster nuts that's a lot of new pieces a lot of new things obviously first I just let's start off with with Murray State we're going to go jump right into this scoring summary uh here I want to start off by saying I love the way that muray State coach coached he was coaching out there like he was playing NCAA 25 and he was laying it all out there I loved it I absolutely loved it look they got nothing to lose going to a top 10 ranked team I'm calling him top 10 Florida State lost I'm calling him top 10 going into a top 10 ranked team house you have nothing to lose especially when you don't know anything about your team surprise onside kick why not going forward fourth and one early why not be aggressive you have nothing to lose in these games and lost 51 to nothing do does do you really think them punting there or them regularly kicking off would have done anything different oh that doesn't change gum at all love the aggressiveness really do love to see it love the aggressiveness obviously it worked out mizu's favor so it also helps but I just love it when football coaches are aggressive and uh they like to take risks and he owned up to it in his a little mid game interview I always think those are weird those are weird we don't need those we don't need those mid game interviews I'll go ahead and say that I know the NFL is trying to do it we don't need those mid game interviews but especially in a game when it's 51 to nothing so don't need those let's get into the scoring summary here as I mentioned the surprise onsite kick Set uh the Tigers up fairly well in good field position 42 yard drive six plays took 2 minutes and 15 seconds off the clock Luther Burton the third catches a 16 yd pass from Brady cook BL Craig on the kick there a really good run after the catch effort from Luther Burton sort why he's a Heisman candidate I mean I had people texting me there he like oh he's already got one touchdown Here Comes St patteron you got to get the stats up if you are going to get the Heisman Heisman rice if you're going to lead it early you're gonna have to have the stats we're going do it a little bit later that Luther you know didn't give very many more stats after the fact but he's healthy that's all it matters good drive from the offense there felt really good about that drive after that um defense comes out they play well feel really good talk about the fourth down stop they get that there then they have a three playay 34 yd drive for their next score to go up 14 to nothing that's a Nate Noel 9yd run good to see the running backs get going early they ran angry they ran hard really like this TM and how it's shaping out it it was very exciting for me to see how these guys ran now granted you have to take the level of competition to play this is an FCS team this is an FCS team that is not good this is an FCS team that's probably better than Lindenwood this is an FCS team that is not good and look Missouri made them look like a not good FCS team that is exactly what you wanted the Missouri Tigers to do they did it the next Drive Tor Pride 25 yard interception return four a touchdown One play Zero yards took eight seconds Tigers up 21 to nothing with 941 left in the quarter 21 nothing with 941 left in the quarter in essentially 3 minutes the Missouri Tigers put up 21 points and man I felt good couple of buddies I was sitting with uh during watching the game one of them said is this what Alabama Feels Like This what it feels like to be a good team yeah I think it is I think this is what it feels like to be a good team exciting stuff from Missouri offense Missouri defense on on both sides really just got out really fast start and I think in years past we've been so used to slow starts to the University of Missouri uh these fast starts are refreshing regardless of the opponent so love to fast start here I think it was 38 nothing when they won last year against seimo like we would have wished that they would had a 51 nothing game right um this is the game is like gotta win got to ass Ser your dominance so uh let's round out the first quarter scoring report here as they did score 28 points in the first quarter Marcus Carroll had a one yard run off a six playay 70 yard Drive taking up two minutes it's really a dominant offensive performance early on for the Missori Tigers I think that the offensive performance is very um very encouraging obviously we knew this offense was going to come out and play really well this offense had the hype around it they have the tools they have everything and there was a little bit of a moment momentum switch when they tried to run the trick play to get it on tape for guys it's why they were doing it they wanted to get it on tape to get scouted uh a little bit of a fumble there it supposed to be a pop pass a little bit of a miscommunication between Brady and Luther looked like Brady went to pop it loser thought he was goingon to hand it a bunch of it was a jumble mess and I think that kind of took the wind out of the sales a little bit especially in the second quarter here as uh look just before half risky play call by uh Kirby Moore when they're down at the goal line you don't have any timeouts left and you can throw a quick pass I thought 5 Seconds was enough I know they're talking a lot out of the broadcast 5 Seconds you only have time for one play I thought they had time for that like to leave one second on the clock right if it was an incompletion if it was a quick incompletion one second would be left on the clock Trot the Trot the kicking team out there Tru Blake Craig out there and have him hit that field goal I thought that would be fine but they ran the football I was risky and there were some stall outs there let's let's talk about that some of the stall outs that they did have on uh on some of their drives I think there is one thing that did leave some desire for me when looking at this offense it was a deep ball they didn't connect on on a deep ball they tried it many times just couldn't connect on it and I think the stat lines look a lot better uh look a lot better and a lot different on both sides for you know Luther for um any of those other guys Theo whis before he uh was was held out precautionary from uh the rest of this game I think this game looks a lot different if they do connect on just one of those and I think I feel a lot better about the offensive deep ball production if they do connect on one of them right and I think that's kind of the worry there is that there was a little bit of a timing issue now it is early on in the season it's okay I think Bry cook even after said at the game I've got to get used to game speed with those guys he's got a lot of returners on that team though got a lot of returning wide receivers he should be used to game speed with that maybe he just you know first game not necessarily Jitters but he's just amped up right he's amped up he's ready to be out there ready to get out there and perform in front of the home crowd home team so I think it could be one of those things where just like a little bit of timing was off I think they'll figure it out but like I would feel a whole lot better about this offense if like one of them would have connected man like if if L would have count another deep touchdown i' be like man yeah feel good about that one Luther bir and two touchdown game that would have been very nice to start off his Junior campaign especially with another guy who is playing in another black and gold uniform that is also probably Ving for the Heisman Trophy uh he had himself a pretty good night tonight too Travis Hunter if you don't know who I'm talking about um yeah I'm looking at the looking at the drive chart right now uh looking at it here at the second quarter Missouri ended up having that that fumble so they scored a touchdown they had the fumble I mentioned on the trick play after that trick play momentum did shift they went punt punt touchdown just before half so they punted back toback times I believe there was Miss shot Miss deep shots on uh both of those punt drives that they just kind of uh just kind of missed couple timing issues stuff like that and there's a couple of throws that I think Brady just missed as well and again I think it could be contribute to just being a two AED up two worked up you got to a hot start you want to keep that hard start go hot start going the crowd was crowd was hot like it was it was a it was a big game you know first game of the season I think you could attribute a lot of that to just um the atmosphere the environment but again's been around for a minute so it shouldn't necessarily bother him would have Lov to see a little bit more accuracy but look I'm nitpicking I realize I'm nitpicking here that's what you got to do with these good teams though you got to nitpick with these good teams we run into it with KY Chiefs all the time we end up nitpicking overall good offensive performance I love the depth of the offense actually when when we come down to it when we talk about it love the depth of this offense we'll get to that here in a little bit but that touchdown right before half gutsy play call gutsy play call from uh Kirby Moore and it worked just your guy went in there got the touchdown on a three yard run from Brady cook look I had said that Brady cook run was going to be the first score I was wrong on that one shout out Martin T Rucker T Ruck with the right call Luther buron that's what I wanted to go with but I was GNA let I was going to let Ruck have it but that's what we got um marus Johnson no deep touchdown so Maggie didn't get hers that's too bad but uh Maggie we'll be back on Sunday and we'll talk about that this game here a little bit more let's move on to the second half I was kind of surprised truthfully that the starters came out for the first drive but you want them to have that situation of coming out of half with adjustments trying to adjust after that and look and I was I was sitting there and I was thinking man if they come out they have a good drive they score a touchdown they come down get a touchdown I'll feel good I'll feel fine P them fight another day you're up 35 to nothing you you'll be all right they forced Murray State to punt great uh great little three and out there from uh the uh from the Missouri defense Missouri defense played really well obviously you allowed zero points tough to shut out team a shut out to shut out don't care how bad the other team is kept him off the board impressive in my opinion but go down they do get a field goal there big heavy Nate Noel Drive big runs for him there Maris Johnson had a huge 18 yard pass M mookie Cooper a huge also yards after the catch as well on that drive 49 yards huge as I mentioned after the C man they got some talented Playmakers on this team you get the ball in the right hands they're going the offensive line was moving bodies too the the holes were massive so they had everything cook conform in the red department they kicked a field goal there on that drive then it was let's bring in let's bring in the subs let's bring in the twos threes get guys in here cuz we are up 38 to nothing two-play drive after a Murray State fumble Drew Pine ran for eight yards and then Jamal ra I thought Drew Pine was gonna get in Drew look Drew Pine his legs were running re moving real fast he was not moving fast he did he did not quite have that second gear that he need to to get into the end zone but Trine sets up the Jamal Roberts two-yard touchdown run to put the Tigers up 45 to zip tigers in for a punt then they get a field goal on the next Drive Drew connected with Daniel Pine Jamal Roberts getting in there uh travar Jones as well getting some reps in there and about this time about this drive I was like you know who I want to see I got to see me some Kanan Lacy man I got I got to see I got to get my eyes on him haven't been able to see him yet I want to see him uh into the third quarter on that drive and then Blake Craig does convert the field goal to put them up 48 to nothing's defense comes out forces a punt on a five playay drive and then big big drive here from the attackers folks this this uh I believe let me double check this let me double check this math here real I believe that this game spread was at 49 and a half when it closed I believe that's what it was some books had it a 49 and a half I want to double check that before I before I absolutely tell you that because I'm pretty sure oh 50 and a half 50 and a half is what this closed at per ESPN bet 50 and a half this drive was a big one this drive was a big one for some folks out there and they got it done you know how the old adage goes good teams win great teams cover let being great team territory because they took put together a 12 Play 84 yard drive to go down to hit a field goal which I wanted him to go for it obviously the falar penalty in the Red Zone kind of puts a damper on your fourth and goal I get it though played safe kickers need reps too got to get those reps in there for the kicker Blake Craig sophomore new rooll for him I get it gotta get him in there but I gotta see going Lacy on this drive thought he looked good did fumble his first Carry GRE also come F his first Carry for the Kanas City Chiefs Juan Lacy looked good with football in his hands I loved T Kanan Lacy was running that football look I I loved how the Missouri Tigers ran the football offensive line moving bodies guys making guys miss it was fun that's fun football they can do a lot of crazy things in this offense but man when it gets down to Brass tax I want to see this team I think this team has the backs to be able to just run the football they're deep man I think this room I think this room's better than it was last year I know Cody sher's a stud but the depth of this room man I love it I I really do love how this running back room is shaping out especially with Kanan lazyy looked good looked really good impressed with Drew Pine too Drew Pine this probably was his best game I've seen Drew Pine play uh he played it obviously Notre Dame and Arizona State he's pretty efficient he made the right reads the right throws well how much like the helmet communication works with that truthfully that's might that's something that's really interesting I love to talk to those those quarterbacks about that about the helmet communication how much it really does help them uh because I think you're seeing a lot less interceptable balls all across college football I think there's going to be less turnover worthy plays overall from quarterbacks because of hel communication I think that that's going to play a really big part into I do think that is uh going to be really interesting but Miss covers they hit that field goal make it 51 nothing I was just worried kind of there I was like Hey keep the shut out keep the shut out that was the thing that I wanted to keep the shut out they do defense played well played well got a defensive score I think that's huge forcing turnovers that's huge the big focus with these games is winning them obviously but taking care of business and asserting your dominance and I think Missouri did that I think Missouri came in they knew what they had to do they took care of business got out to a quick star which I think is vitally important for this team in every single game I think it is very important for this team to get out to Quick Start every single time out here no matter the opponent they got out there they took care of business starters were out a drive in the first half second half pulled them out got a lot of guys in there felt like they got a lot of guys in on offense and defense both sides of the ball got a lot of guys in there and you can't ask for anything more nothing too serious on the injury front haven't heard from North Fleet haven't heard about that injury it was reported that Chris Rino reported on the sideline that they help the oise out with a hip injury as a precaution right you know he doesn't need to hurt himself against Murray State I anticipate I I don't know how I feel about the Brett norl injury on TV it looked like they were holding his shoulders he was walking off the field which is never a good sign which is would be a really disappointment if he if he is uh seriously hurt f extended amount of time but look if you're a Chiefs fan you know Hollywood Brown's suffering a sternoclavicular injury a SC uh separation AC joint separations happen all the time those aren't season ending injuries unless he like tears something that it probably is so I'll be watching that we'll keep you up to dat here missou thatu but um everything that Missouri wanted and needed to do they did in this obviously I mentioned the nitpick of wanting to connect on the Deep ball that's selfish of me I think I just want to see that happen I know that it's there because it has happened right like we have we have that proof of concept I just want to see it happen again selfishly but overall I'm feeling good I know I don't know how you guys are feeling let me know in the comment section tweet at
