#NRL | Storm rising star Tyran Wishart joins Joel & Fletch fresh from winning the Minor Premiership

Congratulations to Tyran for his form. Baron wish welcome to the run home with Jolan Fletch thanks for having me Lads M congratulations by G I tell you what uh in the NFL I think they have a breakout season but you have just grabbed this season by the Scruff of the neck and uh made it your own congratulations how do you feel yeah thanks for that yeah yeah feeling good I'm uh enjoying me footy at the moment um obviously I was able to get get a few starts under my belt with um with a few injuries which is a bit um a bit bad but obviously I I enjoyed my time starting and yeah just gained a bit of Confidence from there I guess why why this year like why was did you were you very confident coming into the offseason yeah this is my year this year I'm ready to go um not really it didn't feel any different to be honest um like I said I think I just with injuries I was uh slotted into the starting team and uh I reckon it's a lot easier to to prepare when you're uh you know you're you're definite on what position you're playing instead of just sitting on the bench and waiting for an injury Wishy I work with a diard dragon supporter um it's bordering on an obsession H how does a jering Gong local kid end up in Melbourne and just gets bypassed by either the dragons or krala or tell us how you ended up at at the storm yeah well I I was with the dragons through the Junior years and everything I did SJ ball with the Steelers um and then went into Jersey flag with the with the under 20s from there and then had a couple of pre-seasons with first grade just on a train and trial but I just couldn't quite crack the uh top 30 Squad and then uh I think it was 2021 um I was just playing New South cup and had an injury actually I did my ankle pretty bad and then I got a call pretty much halfway through my rehab from the storm which was yeah it was a bit of a shock but um they wanted me straight away into that uh full-time Squad and I I jumped at it so when when you get the phone call I'd imagine it was either Frank or or Craig Bellamy or someone else what did they say they saw in you that they think that you be could become a storm player um honestly I'm not really sure it was um it was actually Paul buan who called of his head of Recruitment and then from there I had a meeting um with the storm that's when they were up in the bubble in Sunny Coast through Co and had a meeting with with Frank who who I'd sort of chatted with before through dad his mates with him and then um but obviously hadn't met Craig before and I was myself but it ended up working out can I ask you this right so I mean wherever they put you you've played on the wing you've played I think you might have played fullback five8 halfback uh hooker list goes on maybe a bit of lock um if Craig Bellamy said to you right out Tyron forgetting about the players in those numbers forget about Harry Grant wearing How does a Gerringong local get bypassed by teams around the area? nine moner wearing six Pat wearing one and all those sorts of things Hughes wearing seven what is the number that you think long-term best fits the back of your jumper oh I've always I've always loved playing six that's what I sort of grew up playing and um I sort of Switched in between six and seven through the Juniors and then into um the sort of higher rep uh rep teams but yeah I reckon six and then to be honest the later sort of last two years I've enjoyed my time whenever I played at 9 as well so I do like I do like the spine anywhere you get your hands on the ball really Wishy I got to ask you this do you wear ankle high boots like the old man no but I'm thinking about it I think you well you mentioned you mentioned you had an ankle injury I bet to your dad never had an ankle injury certainly wouldn't have been well there you go there's something in there yeah yeah if asex are listening get them back oh okay it's an aex RO what boy still got him I Storm made a phone call and he jumped at it. think didn't he wear Reebok was they rebok he was I think he might have been aex and then re rebok towards the end of his career I might be wrong but um the ankle I'm pretty sure he's with aex for a while you know the other thing he always had shiny legs he had beautiful great quads great quads Great Cars Hall of Fame quads they always used to just be shiny I remember I tackled him once and I just slipped straight off you know what he was might have been chucking a bit of Vaso on it or baby oil is is he still into is he still into the chemical stuff or the paint stuff yeah he is he's um sort of slowly winding down now um but yeah he's still still got wishart's paint solution wishart paint Solutions that's it you do a number on your car and need some touch up paint I do actually there you go yeah I do actually accident today not coming up here I want to know about there's a lot of lot of people coming through names that we don't so much know but I want to know this young penth kid Keegan get a Russell good a SME What’s his preferred position? uh what do we know about him Keegan Russell Smith tan yeah well firstly he's he's a great bloke he's um very humble and deserves his his uh game on the week H sorry tomorrow night but uh he's a pretty impressive player and I can't wait to see him run out tomorrow and play alongside him we might we we know most of the other names but there's a couple that we probably don't know so well and the other one uh at of Valu latti yeah yep Valu big Valu he's uh exciting as well so uh the other forward in Tristan pal um obviously we've got a different different uh squad for tomorrow night but you know these these BLS get their chance and they've worked really hard and um had good years in either New South Wales cup or Queensland cup and uh they deserve their shot BR I played in a game years and years ago Bruce decades ago where is this a Bruce yeah it's a Bruce it's a Bruce but it relates to his coach Craig Bellamy where we played a similar looking lineup who a Rod Wishart Love In lot of these kids became Stars down the track but we didn't yet know who they were it was Craig Bellamy coaching the ABS of Wayne Bennett for the Broncos came down and we had like names in our team and they just had us from the get-go how does Craig Bellamy and you you've been part of the main team and you'll be their grand final day fully fit assuming you make it um because you've earned that spot but but how does he approach these types A Week Billy a um it honestly I reckon he doesn't hasn't changed too much um reckon he just puts confidence in his players and for the people who haven't played too many games I reckon he just uh tells him to keep it simple and um just puts confidence in I think that's the that's the main thing Wishy when you play Manley and you're up against your future brother-in-law is there you get uh do you get a little bit antsy up there Gary yeah yeah I was on I was on the same side as him this year but nothing kicked off no any any any chat did he did you Keagan Russell-Smith making his debut - Impressive player according to TW. say something to him did you did you get into him cuz he looks like a lovely bloke yeah no he is and I don't for for my sister's sake I don't want any bad blood so a fair enough is he your age is a couple years older than me okay and is your sister younger than you or older than you older they're the same age they're around 27 what's her what's her name Riley Riley Riley we sh okay I don't want to say are you taking to I am yes I am well he'll still answer your question so when I heard when you first went down or you went up went down went down to melbour you had to live in a I've heard not quite a sun room but I was told that you were forced you only you had no windows and the only thing stopping you for privacy was one of those rank Timber uh I suppose they're like curtain not curtains where would How does Bellamy approach coaching weeks like this? you see those you see them as sort of those dodgy rubb and tug joints which maybe one of your team your flatmates picked up from somewhere is that true is that you were living in a kitchen yeah no you've done your research um you spot on I was in on the in the front room not much privacy and um I was supposed to be in there for a month I just went to Bunnings and got a little privacy screen which you could literally see straight through so should have just been called a screen but um that's it it um yeah it went from one month and then um our other housemate who was planning on moving to London uh kept getting pushed back so it turned from one month to about four but um some good good stories yeah and do you like Melbourne do you like the the the city yeah no I do it took a little bit um to get used to coming from from jingong there's not much not much around there other than other than the water and um in the pub but uh yeah I I do Bad blood between him and Garrick (his brother in law) love it and I was ready for a bit of a change so yeah like I said when they called I I jumped at it and do you like to get out Bells you like your surfing I'd imagine you would you J going to get I do I love I love my surf and yeah um this winter we honestly haven't been down too much but last year Harry and myself were we were smashing Bells Beach and winky pop that's probably our favorite that's a good sport why don't you quizzing monio quiz the other day what was one of the questions you had which he he might get oh he'll get it he'll get it um well we've got the final series now for the WSL can you name me three of the top five that will be partaking well uh Australia's own Ean qualified he's definitely in it yep um we got Robo Jack Robinson correct Bo you you get all five you get all five here yeah I want to try and get all five okay Wishy’s “accommodation” when he moved to Melbourne um Griffin griffindor yep is he in the five yeah yeah um who's number one who's number one is the gun he's my number one John John yes yes yes joh and Medina no Funky Cold n the other cat the other Brazilian to yes who's the one yeah too had the year off that's right that's right yeah that's right and the girl I think is um is she from down your way uh no Molly pum no she's a Molly Pam no we had uh we have Sally and um and then Tyler was was from down cbar away I think and Wishy what about when you want to relax other than surfing you just sit back at home on the bean bag with the Privacy Screen up and you watch you like watching are you are you a Netflix junkie or are you into that sort of um yeah I've started collecting my privacy screens now so um no I've honestly I I like playing golf surfing I'm not very good at golf but um I give it a go um but I'm not much of a I don't really play Playstation or or anything but oh that's good what about cooking do you like cooking cooking I I don't mind my cooking but I'm probably not great at that either but I'd rather cook than and go out and buy something every night yeah so if you can come on because we've asked you to come on Maddy show a couple of times if you come on there I'm pretty confident I can get you get your has he been knocking your back no he hasn't been it's just it hasn't aligned oh okay it has yeah it hasn't aligned has aligned I think we could be on this Sunday yes oh wow who's we you and who uh no it's just just me oh okay okay I think I think if you turned up to head back to the Aldi house just unannounced and dad had a few former team mates with him having a barbecue who would be the Loves his golf and surfing to wind down three most likely to be there with your great uh your great father oh um Mary would have to be yep um obviously the center wing for the Steelers um Trent Barrett as well too he's still I think he's still living at Shell Harbor yep what about rug head who's rug head he'd be a surfer too would he r m Kai from the losing team oh yeah i' have to throw him in there what a good gang super fit gang isn't it can you remember any of them like coming over when you were a kid and they were just sort of they're out in the back and just getting full of piss and wrestling not really I do I do remember once um Trent and dad went for a surf at the farm at Shell Harbor and um it was obviously dad's day to look after me and he just left me on the beach I think I was about three left me on the beach for like two hours but um it's probably that's probably made up Wishart to be on Matty Johns this weekend a bit but uh I do remember that I remember going surfing with them too um and how long are you signed down in the uh in the storm for um I've got until the end of next year oh end of next year because out out my dragons and then oh there's another there's another year but it's uh sort of it's like option base so in your favor or their favor um I think it's their favor and we she tell us see I love I love how he said I think it is see he's not thinking about that far hey we she tell us about tell us I'm just worried about this year at the moment tell us about when you signed with the storm you got to work for two weeks what was what did you have to do yeah I had to um we were working on a house I was doing I think I was two years into my carpentry apprenticeship before the storm called so um me and Grant Anderson he's a qualified chippy we uh out to Peter Robinson who's um a Top 3 BBQ Guests for Rod Wishart Melbourne old boy as well his house burnt down a few years ago so we were helping uh clad his house and do other bits and pieces there Robo get him on his own house yeah but I thought you had to do something that got you out of your comfort zone I thought it was something like real hecko you had to do but you can do can you choose what you want to do I think it usually is but I reckon Robo got into um into here and said oh M I need this free labor okay okay so what about so as a qualified chippy like yourself now you're a dummy half are you looking towards a qualified seven what can we expect from Green Anderson who's been bloody awesome um what can we expect from him wearing the number seven this week yeah like you said he's been outstanding whatever he's played um he's covered a lot of positions this year too so um he's he's confident in in his own ability so I think he'll have a big game and um Keen to see him run around in the Storm Contract - End of next year. seven you might have played with Daniel ainson at Melbourne or maybe just missed him but it's got a bit of Daniel ainson about it you know played in the outside backs and then got thrown the number seven jumper brw you never know yeah yeah I roomed with that Co all through 2021 when we were up at uh the sunny Coast so um he's a great fell as well and he's playing great footy now wish he I'm desperate to know about Johnny Utah your Center um what's what's his go you me keano Jackie howo [Laughter] re surely call call you call him Johnny Utah he he just sort of I mean I've never seen a kid just come on and he just looks like I think he's going to end up playing the back row yeah what's he like as a I know he's only a baby isn't he's 19 or 20 or something isn't he still I think he's yeah 20 21 maybe 20 or 21 tell us a bit about him um yeah he he had to B his time obviously um a lot of people sort of were wondering when he was going to debut and he got his shot at the end of last year um and then obviously this year he's had a breakout year and um he's just a Powerhouse like I think he was the same size he is now when he was about 10 but um Man Child bit of a man child no no but he's um as a blow he's hilarious he's one of the funniest we have at the club and everyone um everyone loves him tan wish i' I'll tell you what the boards Mel down they love you we we have this saying keeper you're a keeper if they want you back they call you a keeper well it's keeper keeper keeper keeper keeper and mate I I would love nothing more than to see your good self be one of the great rugby league stories just close your eyes and picture this Ator Stadium it's that first Sunday in October an out trots tyum wishart and about an hour and a half to 2 hours later you've won the comp what would that mean to you oh yeah it get goosebumps thinking about it so hopefully haven't put the curse on us but he's mock you um yeah obviously that's that's why why we play um for those games in the final Series so uh hopefully we can we can keep the ball rolling and uh give give the comp a good crack yeah good on you mate dreams are free thanks for joining the run over with j
