TJ Houshmandzadeh Rips Into Miami Police Over Tyreek Hill Incident, Calls for Change

let's talk about some action that happened before the whistle even blew and that's the situation with the guy Tyreek Hill and the um Police Department out there in Miami um as a black man in America we see this over and over on different outlets and different seasons I think we've all dealt with it what was your initial reaction when you saw that that morning I think anybody's initial reaction when you're a black man and is anger honestly it is because that could be you if you're not black you really don't understand how that feels because it rarely happens to you it R it rarely it may never happen to you when you're a police officer your job should be to deescalate every situation say Tyreek Hill wanted smoke your job is to try to calm him down you you don't want it to be a problem now should he have rolled the window back up no that probably escalated it but ultimately your job is to make sure that nothing happens like you get to tapping on the window yanking the door you ain't even know the door how it open even know it opened up see that man look when they yanked him out the car it was just like wow but we you I've been pulled over and I'm people that know me know I got I've matured a lot but I got a temper and so if I feel like I've been pulled over for no reason I'm saying something I'm saying something and so like I've been harassed a bunch by the police got a hood on my head cuz I don't comb my hair when I take my kids to school so I put a hoodie on and they make they like give me a hard time it's been a while though when my kids were in high school but for Tyreek Hill man is disheartening but I thought he handled it very well after the game I thought it was positive and it sucks because I got buddies that are police officers I just talked to one right now uh prior to coming on the show he my homie and he's a police officer and I know he wouldn't handle that situation that way I know he wouldn't the majority of police officers they going to handle it the right way that's that's what I don't like 99% of police officers they handle these situations the right way it's just this 1% that we see and luckily luckily he Tyreek Hiller still here luckily nothing happened luckily his parents and people aren't protesting because he lost his life but we got to figure this out man there's no police officers your job is to deescalate he shouldn't have rolled the window up but y'all should not have yanked him out the car and did everything that they did to that young man for no apparent reason in my opinion but in that instant it's like being on the field right if we got somebody that's jumping off sides if we got somebody that's you know continually getting um personal foul penalties one more he's out the game you know continually breaking the rules it comes to a point where we going to tell them we going to tell them we tell them and then we're going to have to handle it oursel as players like hey buddy you're hurting us you can't be on the field and that's not that's what we're not seeing from that department and that team right you got a you know police officer police department their team do you think they no pun intended police themselves do think they do that I don't hold each other accountable I don't I don't think they all hold each other accountable and it's more of a turn their other cheek type situation they see it and if they're not involved a lot of times it's turn their other cheek and it's not you know correcting it like you correct Society right that's your job is to correct civilians but you're not correcting yourself inhouse and it also goes back to hiring practices like if I come in and try to get um bring my resume to anyone right and I'm not qualified for that job they're going to train me a certain way to be qualified and the cops aren't being trained the best way possible to handle their jobs and their roles TR can you really train somebody's temperament can you do that can you train somebody's temperament they're human police up they're human beings you wake up some days you wake up and you like I feel good today some days you wake up and you feel like [ __ ] I don't want to do anything but I got to go to work I don't want to talk to anybody but I got to talk to everybody but you can't it's it's it's like a one of those pych psych evaluations right you know that people have like you said come in and have good and bad days but it's the type of person that can control those emotions you have to take a person that knows how to handle trauma knows how to handle um being uncomfortable knows how to handle is it always a perfect situation no but he has the temperament to handle those situations and that's what you hire you don't hire someone that never gets mad no everyone gets mad everyone gets tried but are you hiring people that knows how to handle and and control themselves in those situations and I think that's how you have to evaluate it you're in a position of authority that's what police officers are they're in positions of authority by law that badge that pistol that they have on their hip on their waist and I believe you should try to calm every situation down because you know what you possess you know what you can do you know who you have with you I mean they stay deep they and so I get it certain situations haven't always ended well for police officers but it's broad daylight you're at the Dolphin Stadium I heard one of offers say I think that is Tyreek Hill you see Kay's cell come up you see Janu Smith come up you handcuffed Clay Campbell and he coming up like this with his hands up in the air and so I felt like they were on a power trip I I I just I'm glad nothing happened that that to me is the biggest thing but the awareness of it and it's like here we go again it's it's a continuous cycle of when is this going to end because somebody sent me something on social media where it was a white dude going crazy on a police officer get the [ __ ] you in my you on my property my wife yeah I've seen that my wife's coming home from work get the [ __ ] don't give a we can't do that bro never we did you we can't do that and the thing with that even kind of when I saw the video that upset me even more is when Tyreek was like just the black man trying to go to work or whatever he said and the officer was like oh man cut that out we're we're colored too we're BR nah y'all not the same and you know that if we were the same and if you saw your brother right in the car you saw yourself as a black and brown man would you do that to yourself if you feel that way why you doing me like this straight up why you doing me like this cuz I would like to think I believe there are Cuban officers we all minorities in this we minorities then treat me as such treat me as such treat me as such like I see better than I hear you telling me one thing but you're doing another and so I do like the way Tyreek Hill handled it he handled it really well after the game it's not too many people that would have handled it that way the C so the celebration right y'all know who was the first person to ever do that celebration right yeah y'all know who was right who was it you me wouldn't you do it Fiesta B when we beat Notre Dame pull it up yeah cuz they called y some somebody they was calling us THS the whole week I remember that they was calling them Thugs and so uh we had made a deal all the guys on offense whoever scores first that's what we going to do Chad scored first he wanted to do his own [ __ ] he ain't do nothing so then I scored next and I put my hands behind my back Ken Simon uh kind of handcuff me Simon pittsb sir he walked me to the sidelines so yeah I actually was the first one to ever do that but you know it was before social media so you know it was a lot of stuff before social media that we did like I remember me e right Joe Hayden we was playing in Detroit right because you know they had the Casino MGM pregame with or early before the game so I'm like yeah we F to go to casino whoever uh get an interception fumble score on defense it was really for the whole year we going to do the uh the crap Circle right so really I'm like I got to do it first is my idea I think R must have picked some [ __ ] went to the house he got the endzone we all did it though but it was like one of them things it's like hey you got to make the play first he brought more attention to it when he when he did that but luckily nobody was hurt I hope he's able to sit down with the Miami Dave Police Department um the Dolphins because of who he is he gonna be a Hall of Fame player he GNA go down as one of the best receivers to ever play um he has the platform to where he can exact change and and I hope that's what happens and this brings me also to a similar um situation with Terrell Davis on the airline where the steart accused him of hitting him in request of something um end up stopping the flyer from taking off called the police when they landed yeah so it was midair when they landed the FBI was there escorted Terrell Davis and his wife off the plane just off a accusation you know you get criminalized you get punished you get embarrassed um I seen another incident and the guy was in the airport it was a disagreement between him and the um Caucasian lady and he was upset the the lady was upset but just because of you know he was a a black man for some reason she felt more intimidated and he couldn't fly you feel a certain way about how I look that's not my fault it's per it's not up to me it's perception exactly so you say what can we do about things like that I honestly I don't think we can do anything I don't think you know U Tariq Hill talking to Miami Dade is going to do anything about the cops that just don't like black men for whatever reason right is it that they don't I I don't and see this is the thing it's such a small percentage of these incidents like literally if somebody gets pulled over a hundred times it may be an incident maybe once yeah it's such a small percent but that small percent a lot of the time has ended up with a black man losing his life and that that to me it is the biggest problem I I don't know what the answer is you can train them all you want um that's never going to be the end the result uh train train train there's still going to be some guys that just want to flex their power the trell Davis incident it was as if he was guilty yeah for sure come on the plane and ask me what happened because this is what we were told don't just assume that I'm wrong like you get angry playing football just say you get angry and you show a lot of emotion you crazy somebody else do it they're passionate or they do the same thing and just because uh they might be a little bit smaller and or you know lighter in tone right it's not threatening one thing you going to do for your son and I'm going do for my son is bro when you get pulled over cuz it's going to happen for sure man roll the windows down try to be polite as possible put your hand on the steering wheel because that's my worst nightmare for me to get that call and for the parents that have received that call I couldn't understand what they go through when they get that call telling them this is what has happened and so we got to educate our kids on when you get pulled over to do X Y and Z when you should just get a ticket if you've broken the law that's a fact because it is become generational right I've seen my dad in that situation with me in the car right guns drawn and everything I'm a kid false oh mistaken identity sorry go ahead but we grew up well I'm older than you I grew up where in the projects where when we seen the police we was running cuz we seen them chasing the people we looked up to in the hood down and handcuffing them and arresting them so we were always uneasy of the police how I grew up my son is not he isn't growing up that way M he shouldn't have that same fear of police officers like I did Growing Up and so but I'm going to have to tell him this I going to say saying that do you teach him to be rary in those situations because like you don't want him to carry that fear right I don't want him to have that that was just ingrained to me cuz that was all I saw like I've had people killed in my house in my house shot dead in my house I had people shot outside my front door like literally open the door you shot inside my house you shot dead but my son will never have to go through that and so no I won't try to put the fear of God in him like a no I don't want that but you do have to tell him be respectful stay calm cuz that's the only son I have and that's just the world we live in and some people oh you don't have to I'd rather be safe than sorry so he will get that spill when he's able to drive I hope he never has to use it I hope it never happens but in case it does he will understand how to conduct himself for sure I mean I agree 100% now I got a son he's a little younger than yours but you know it's coming it's coming it's coming and they got to be you know hey we don't we don't need no pause
