hello and good morning and welcome to day one today is our Masterpiece today we begin to Mastermind Mastermind and strategize your educational and career Journey I'm so excited to be able to have this seven days with you as you begin to think differently about you too can be in the ivy league remember I already told you ivy league is just the standard don't get caught up in the eight schools you see under me it's not about the schools it's about who you have to become to reach your standard to go to a higher place to reach a higher level of learning look I always say it goals are not to get there to grow it's not about what you have to do to get it it's about what you have to be to achieve it and more importantly what do you have to be to maintain it so today is day one and I'm so excited I'm so excited we are going to focus today on start with the end now let me set a powerful intention first of all all I want to set the intention that you are going to have a whole new understanding of why admissions committees accept people what they're looking for what they're looking for I'm going to show you what they're looking for what are the things that ultimately are going to help you have the Competitive Edge it's something we say in sales I told you I own a sales uh acceleration company what's going to give you the Competitive Edge what is going to help you to stand above all the other people that are applying to these schools now you you should already know that two years ago even last year less about 30% of people think about this 30% of people that applied to law school didn't get into any law school at all that means three out of every 10 people didn't get any anywhere when you start talking about some of the more Elite schools you will find that for every seat there's 50 60 70 in some cases 100 applications you have to do something to stand above the crowd I want to be very clear about that that's why you're taking this course that's why you're listening to me I am Daryl Bennett let me be very clear about who I am I am an alumnist of Harvard Law School I graduated as class Marshall there I am alumnist of Morehouse College I graduated as Valen Victorian bear I teach people I train people I push people I coach people I Mentor people to get to their next level I help people mainly through building their businesses and and and achieving powerful so-called impossible goals in their personal and professional lives but I also teach people around the mindset the mindset to elevate their lives and Elevate their status and Elevate their paradigms and therefore their life this is about you too can be in the ivy league so yes you can yes you can yeah one of the alumnist of of my Elma ma coined that term so let's get into what we're going to talk about today I want you to start at the end I want you to start at the end first of all you should have a you should have a composition book we're going to be going over with so many things I want you to be writing down what I'm saying and I want you to be in tune because it's going to be a lot I'm going to give you and I can I just say this kindly if you really want to get the most Effectiveness out of this every day you should be watching it three times well I should let me say this say it differently watch each module three times I'm not telling you to watch it in the same day but each module over the course of the next month I want you to watch it three times it's something about that um many times it's not that we see something different in the book or in the the the resource that we're listening to it's that we see something different in US each time we look at it each time we read it so I want you to do that start at the end what do I mean start at the end Stephen kovi I think I'm saying his right name or cvy wrote a book called The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People in it he posited in chapter five start with the end in mind start start at the end I'm going to teach you a habit of Highly Successful People we start at the end I want to teach you how to go to the very end go to the end go to the end what does the end look like so the end what does that look like for you where are you looking to go not just as a school what is the goal that you're looking to achieve by going to the school I want you to be very clear about that I don't want to start with the mechanism I want to start with the mindset I told you before Consciousness always precedes manifestation I want you to be very clear about your conscious intention for why you're taking this course why you're applying to the school you're gonna have to hold on to that it this process is so tedious in some cases it can be emotionally taxing the only way for you to make it through and be successful the way you need to be successful with this is for you to truly and really understand and have a a a clear understanding of why you're doing what you're doing why are you doing it why are you doing it it may have started because of you know your parents said it was a good idea or something you saw in a movie but if you're going to carry this thing out to manifestation especially as we talk about going to the ivy league whatever your ivy league is whatever that place is for you that's the gold standard that's what we talking about the gold standard you're going to have to be very clear on your goal you're going to have to be very clear on your intention I want you to write that down and I want you to keep it somewhere because as we go through the seven days we talk about some of the things especially when we get to day three and we talk about test taking a test taking some people's heart jump soon as they hear the word test you got to be very clear on why you're doing this so I want to step back and ask that start at the end what do you hope to gain and Achieve by going to the school see yourself already graduating see yourself graduating right now see it see it in your mind's eye what does that look like what are you doing what are you being what are you achieving seeing that is going to help you have the motivation to walk through this process you're going to have to walk through this process start at the end now we're going to talk a little bit more about picking Target schools but that's your local intention I want to start with the global intention which is that higher Place why are you even going to the school where are you going you might find by the end of this is a better way to get there without going to the school if that's the case then hey I may have saved you $100,000 or $200,000 I may have saved you going down a road that maybe you didn't need to go through down anyway but I want you to be very clear about that Global intention and once you're clear about that if it's absolutely certain that you need to go to a university in order to do this you need to go to an advanced school and get an advanced degree to do it then now we want to talk about what is that local intention meaning where do you want to go I want you to write down on your list I want you to write down excuse me on your sheet of paper I want you to write down three things what are your target schools I want you to write down what are your schools you think it would be uh you can get into easily and what what's your stretch schools what do you think it would be hard to get into I'm not I'm not saying you need to write any and any of them but if you feel like it's something that would be a stretch to get into I want you to write that down if you feel like it's something that would be easy you can get into it's just a matter of just sending off the application I want you to write that down and I want you to write those Target schools even if they're overlapping in some way write them down in those three columns we're going to come back to that tomorrow I don't even want to get to that now but I want you to write it down because I want that to be thinking and ruminating I want I want to introduce you that word ruminating in your subconscious so we can begin to really attract what we need to attract so you can get what you need to get right now I want to talk about the process I want you to understand the process and all you're getting I want you to get understanding that's what I do I help people have a clearer understanding of why they're doing what they're doing and what they're doing have you ever done something and you really didn't know what was the point you know I once heard someone say people who know why will always rule over those who only know how that's that's it's a har saying but in some cases is true I heard another person say you know darl there's a difference between an expert and a master I said what do you mean I thought they were interchangeable he said the master the the expert uh knows how to climb the ladder the ex the Master Built it the expert knows how to climb the ladder the Master Built it think about that I want you to understand the process remember this is seven days to masterminding I want you to have a mastermind that's what it's going to take for you to become for you to be in the iidv league you have to have a mastermind to reach your gold standard you have to have a mind that reaches above and beyond where you are now you can never get with your present Paradigm what you have excuse me something else until you change your Paradigm I want to change your Paradigm to have a mastermind system so you see it differently that's how I'm growing up in Baltimore City I said oh I'm definitely I I I definitely see myself at the ivy leag no matter what people say so understand the process this is what I want to say before I even get into our picture for today which is the whole person model I want you to come fused with this because this is going to help you as craft your application be more clear more focused and more concise about what it is that you want to present I want to use that word you're presenting yourself to the admissions committee what it is you want to present you want to present yourself as a whole person but before we get there I want to step back for a second it is a myth and I don't know where it came from but it is a myth somewhere or somehow that people think that admissions committees are giving out acceptances based on based as a reward based on how well you did in the past oh you had a great GPA so come to my school if you had a great test score come to my school past performance they're only using as an indicator for future success I want you to write that down yes past performance is important I don't want to deny what past performance does but I already told you before there are several people each year that apply to these very top schools who have 4.0 gpas and have a perfect elsat score and they still get rejected why you wonder well what are the schools looking for write something down I want you to think like your mark you you ever you ever gone hunting before I want you to think like your mark I want you to think like the thing you're going after don't think like the person applying think like the person who is reading the admissions application think like the person on admissions think like the dean think like the dean I want you to come from a higher perspective I'm telling you something I'm not just teaching you the mechanism I'm teaching you the Mind behind it think about that how would you approach it if you approached it not as someone trying to get it but if you already were running not just at the school but running the school how would you approach it come from that perspective how do you make decisions now you make them based off of self-interest what do you think the schools are doing they're looking at self-interest they're looking to tether their brand to people and individuals who they believe will will make their brand even more better even enhanced even more I know more better isn't something you're supposed to say that you get it the only reason that admissions committees are looking at past performance at all is an indicator of future success they are guesstimating where will this person be if they get this degree what will this person do at my University where will what how will they immes themselves in the community what will they add to the discussions in the classroom will they enhance it will they cause more people to be drawn will they do something that shines a further Spotlight on my school that's what they're thinking about what will they do with the degree will they take themselves to the next level will they help our school have a bigger name as a result of what they did you want to know why Harvard I'm gonna just go straight to Harvard you want to know why Harvard stays on the lips of so many people all over the world it's because the alumni are continuing to do amazing spectacular phenomenal things they're presidents they're leading governments they're leading companies they're leading institutions they're World Changers that's what we do I'm talking about that's what we do as a l of har law school at Harvard University that's what we do the University are looking to pick people who are going to continue to do that the more you can show that you will add value write this down the more you can show that you can add value to the world the better success you're gonna have not just in life overall but specifically as we talk about this journey to the ivy league whatever your ivy league is remember whatever your gold standard is add value so this is what I want you to write down ultimately the question of admission Falls to Value ad that's what it's about yes test scores play A Part GPA plays A Part extra curricul play A Part what jobs you have to play a part internships play a part but all of those is all to bring together the question of what value they add both at my school in my classrooms in the community that we've put together that is thriving and hopefully thriving even more and after they've graduated as an Alum what will they do if you can remember that throughout the next seven days it's going to change the way you approach this right there right there you've probably gotten your money's work right there because I want to bring you from looking at the tree to focusing on the forest I want you to focus on the overall picture the overall picture the overall picture the intent of the emissions committee is sifting through applications and reviewing applications to determine who is going to help their school continue to thrive and take it to the next level that's how I want you to tail your application that's how I want you to think like your mark so let's get into the whole person model as we talk about the whole person model I want to walk you through each of the each of the pieces let me just first say there's two types of people that are listening here I'm going to say three the first the first type of applicant is the applicant that's already that's in college right now you're going to go straight through you notice that speak as it's already done you're going to learn that about me I believe in working as if it's already done so you're going to go straight through you're applying to go to law school business school and you want to go straight from college you're going straight through so that's the first kind so of course your GPA is GNA matter more um the the your extracurriculars you're doing in school your internships uh things like that are going to matter more nobody is really expecting you to have work history any serious work history because you've been a student this whole time the second the second type a person that's listening to me is about three to five years this is like the sweet spottify three to five years where they've been out of college but now they're coming back now they realize it wasn't as the work life wasn't what I thought it would be can let say a quick story I always like to infuse humor so uh another Alum actually about Alma ma Edward Kennedy Ted Kennedy actually interned for him as a um when I was at actually I was at morehous when I interned um at for in Capitol Hill but anyway check this out so The Story Goes that Edward Kennedy his brother was president at the time he's running for Senator and he's at a steel mill shaking hands and talking to people and a man walks up to him and says hey you I heard you never had a job a day in your life and I say senator Kennedy he wasn't a center at the time he's running The Story Goes that he kind of turns his head slightly to the side not knowing what to expect because he he was born into great wealth and resources he turns over and looks and the man says don't worry you ain't Mr thing and kept walking he wasn't expecting that the reason I say that is because so many people can't wait to get in the workforce they can't wait to go and work they're so excited to get out of college and start making some money and many people around five years they call me because they say you know what it's not what I thought it would be I want to go to the next level let me just put a plug in here and say that's why I did an entire Master course around create your own economy seven days seven days to accelerating your business and your brand because I teach people how to create from scratch you're gonna have to know how to create your own economy from scratch I teach people how the only thing that's that that's certain about your job is that one day you won't have one all right so you need to be an Enterprise Builder that's what I do that's what I help people with but back to this that's the second type of person three to five years in trying to figure things out but now let me tell you about let me tell you about the third person the third type of person and maybe you're listening to me like this about seven years out plus I mean I've worked with people who are 30 years away from school who have decided I'm going to law school business school usually it's either usually law or business school this is what I found generally that person especially the one that waited a while it's a deeper reason for why they're going it's it's not just a reason it's a dream it's a deep desire it's not just about money they feel like they're goingon to make that may be part of it but it's part of their their their calling they feel like they feel like their life is calling them to do that whichever bucket you're in I want you to know ultimately it's about value ad that's the point ultimately it's about knowing how to present yourself as a whole person you're going to hear me continue to go back to concept such that you can present to the admissions committee this is my value as a person and this is what I'm going to add let's let's let's look at this model the first place I want to go to are your grades what we find is that overall um grades account for more than not as what admissions commities are looking for well when I say more than not not more than 50% but somewhere between let's say 20 to 30% of what they're looking at these are rough estimates let me just say this this is based on surveys with Deans and admissions people who work on admissions committees those who studied this Consultants this is this is this is based backed up by data of course those who have been out of college longer uh the GPA matters less but even then there might be other courses that they've taken that can help speak to that let me just go back to when we talk about value ad because I'm going to be throwing different nuggets in here ambitious committees are looking for growth two things you should know about that when we're talking about your GPA you want to have a steadily increas in GPA unless you already are just at a status I had a all throughout college so if you're already at A's and you a and you're listening stay at A's but but even for those that maybe you started off and you weren't as strong maybe freshman year no telling what you were doing you were you were what's the old saying stud hard part party late don't forget to graduate maybe you almost forgot to graduate that first year admissions committees understand this but how have you progressed I've seen people who had SE averages in their freshman year and then killed it I'm talking about A's I'm not talking about B's I'm talking about A's from sophomore junior senior year and it it boted very well for them so even though their overall GPA might not have been as high as someone that consistently had that beat plus range that that growth that growth and not just growth at the end that almost paradigm shift that went from mediocre to excellent grades that stayed there says something it says something it says something about that person and it says something about the qualities of that person that are going to be necessary for them to be effective I think this is I I I think this is a good point for me to talk about the qualities I was going to say this later let me come back to the GPA thing but I want to give this to you what I'm just flowing now this how I do I want you to get this here when they did a survey they talked about amongst Law School uh Deans they looked that what are the seven biggest qualities that they're looking for in an ideal candidate not the skills yet we're talking about strengths we're talking about those more type people things we're not talking about those technical skills these are the three these are the seven motivation perseverance resourcefulness creativity initiative resilience and self-discipline so I want you to keep that in mind as we're going throughout motivation persistence resourcefulness creativity initiative resilience self-discipline you'll watch it again so you'll catch it motivation persistence excuse me perseverance which is persistence resourcefulness creativity initiative resilience and self-discipline now these are the three things that they looked at as skills as top research skills writing skills analytical skills research skills writing skills analytical skills you need to know these things because if you know what they're looking for you know how to tailor it that's how it would help people but when I first started teaching people around things like this it wasn't even teaching them how to build their business it wasn't even teaching them how to get into school I was teaching people how to get better jobs better careers and I would show people think like your Mark it's so simple that's what we're doing now start at the end think like they're thinking what are they looking for and if you know what they're looking for or you can tailor your application right to it just like you can look at a job description you can see all the things they're looking for in the job description and you can copy and paste and put some of those things in your resume sech that it puts your resume at the top even if the person doesn't see it the robot the bot that's looking through the algorithms will put your application at top because it's seeing that you are matching all the things that they're saying I'm teaching you something here if you know what they're looking for and you're intentional about it you're able to demonstrate that through your through the admissions through every part of the application I want you to know that so I don't want to get stuck on the GPA for the gpa's sake and elsat what we're about to go to next for the elsat sake I want you to see what they're looking for so you hold that in your mind and as you craft your application you know exactly how to do it all right so that's the that's the GPA the other thing that I want to say is let's talk for people who've been out of school for a while maybe you've taken some other classes that show growth maybe it shows that you haven't maybe you weren't the best student in college but time has passed and you're able to show that you've done other things academically rigorously intellectually and that's gonna that's GNA do well for you it was a young lady I was working with just last admission cycle she um what was she doing she was in the military for about 10 years and we were able to show how though she had done C's and B's in college it had been 10 years she was a high ranking Commander particularly for her age had been to uh all type of schools around weaponry and I believe even it was some nuclear thing she was doing it was so much that she was able to show that she had learned around analytics and research that really it really worked well for her so I want you to I'm telling you this because again it's not about the number it's about what the number says and if you're able to say a story about it then you're able to do better you're going to learn that in law school it's never about what it is it's about what you tell the story about it what's the story that you tell around it so I don't want you to get discouraged as you hear me talk about GPA oh that's the most important thing my grade point average but I want you to see what is the story that we can tell around it that's partly why you reach out to me for me to help you one-on-one with this because I know how to use words I'm a master at words to not fluff not create things that are not there but to help you to see how incredible you already are and to tell your story from a place of power purpose and prosperity okay the second thing that I want to talk about which is right under and law school admissions committees are looking at this heavily the tests yes they have to be it has says something about you it talk it says something about your perseverance it says something about your work ethic it says something about how you handle challenges it says something about your ability to sit for long periods of time and be focused it says something about your ability to take on things that intimidate other people it says something about your Paradigm can you succeed where others fail some people some people they take a test and they defeat themselves in their mind if you do it somewhere you'll do it everywhere so it's not about the number but it is about what does it say about you and I know that some schools now and many schools accept also the GRE but it's still a test that you still have to take so maybe one of them is better suit it for you than the other but I want you to know either way it says something about you don't fall into the fallacy of people who say things like the test don't have that's that doesn't mean anything it does mean something everything you do means something it says something about who you are it says something it doesn't give the complete picture but it's an indicator if you do it somewhere you'll do it everywhere in my faith tradition we have a saying if you can't contend with the with the footmen what are you going to do when the Chariots and the horsemen come if you're intimidated limited and have blocked yourself out by saying you can't do it based on the law school admissions test what are you going to do with the bar law school admissions test is three and a half hours soaking wet what are you g to do for two three days where you have to sit for eight hours so I don't want you to fall into the fallacy of thinking it doesn't mean anything it means everything you see how I'm teaching you I want you to grow into what it's going to take for you to become so you can be in the IV League not just what you have to do I want to change that par and we're going to talk about that in day three how you're going to attack the test you're going to attack it you're going to attack it you're gonna attack it like we would attack a a fort if we were go into war that's how I'm G to teach you how to do it with the same Vigor and enthusiasm you're gonna be on the offense no longer will you be on the defense with test that's what so many people do they are some people go in defeated I already told you Vince Lombardi said it best the Victor sees Victory and walks into the arena every else walks in the arena and tries to figure it out intention intention now I want to speak a little bit about and we're going to come back to all of these things on a deeper level but I just want you to see the the whole person picture here the next thing is recommendations believe it or not that even comes above those extracurriculars that comes above the person statement you'd be surprised recommendations count for a lot why it says something about you when you have people that are able to affirm confirm and validate what you're doing if you think about it for a second anything great that's ever happened in your life you would introduced by a person maybe through a concept but a person oh excuse me to a concept but a person introduced you right now I'm introducing you to an entirely new way of thinking I'm introducing you a recommendation is an introduction that's how I want you to think about it this isn't just something you put rotely on the piece of paper I'm going to show you how to not do that not to have people just write you know whatever or an admissions assistant to write something and somebody else sign it that's impersonal and doesn't mean anything I wanted to be compelling I wanted to be clear I wanted to speak to those you know we talked about what are those seven qualities let's go back to it let's go back to it repetition is the mother of learning we got time let's go back to it the seven qualities that they're looking for are motivation perseverance resourcefulness creativity initiative resilience and self-discipline the three top skills research writing and analytical skills so what does that mean start at the end I want your recommendation letters to reflect that you are doing those things I'm not asking for it to be so busy and it show all 10 three skills and seven qualities but do you get the point this is not just about saying this is a nice person who's really cool and I like you know she's nice or he's nice no no no no no no it needs to speak to those things I want you to be like the person that's applying for the job that sees the job description and They're copying and pasting pieces out of the job description and putting it in their application or in their resume because they know that they're G it's going to get moved more to the top I want your recommendation letters to mirror that what the law school is looking for that what the business school is looking for that what the advanced degree committee that's looking over is looking for that's going to immensely increase your chances of success we're going to talk about that I think it's day five I got to look back at the rubric but we're going to talk about that we're going to talk about how to choose the right people that's going to help you stand apart from the crowd and that's going to speak to you from a place of power of growth of potential of possibilities but also a profit now what have you done now let me tell you something else is so powerful about an introduction and a recommendation you never know who that person knows we're going to talk later about the power of people connections you never know who the recommender the person that's recommending you might know you be surprised the world is not uh as separated by as many degrees of separation as you might think and so the the other importance of choosing very carefully very clearly very uh intentionally who you are asking to do your recommendation letters is also to see that may be leveraging itself maybe they've gone to the school maybe they've have some affiliation with the school that's going to give you a leg up and for them to be able to speak clearly directly succinctly and powerfully about your experience and your qualities and your credentials it's it's a game changer let's go to the personal statement that personal statement is important we're going to talk all about that day four I believe you see I have a whole whole whole rubric for you day four I really want us to focus on what does that statement look like is it a story like it should be or is it a rehashing of your resume I don't want you to do that I don't want you to mistake make the mistake that some people do of going on and on about I did this and I did that no no no no I'm GNA show you how that personal statement is your real Masterpiece for them to get a face to a person and more importantly a voice the best personal statements sound like they can hear your voice they can see you there that's what I want to show you I want to show you how to bring them to the deal with the how to bring them to the deal we do that in sales we bring people to the deal how do we bring them there well we might bring them through slides something visually we might show them a vision or a video of what it would be if they work with us I want you to bring them to the deal what is it going to look like with you sitting in class what is it going to look like for you being at their law school or their business school what does it look like with you having the George doctor or the Master's of business administration degree what does it look like I want you to start at the end and help them start at the end because if they see you with it it'll be easier for you to keep it and it'll be easier for you to get it you see what we're doing every piece is moving us closer to your educational and career destiny that's why I'm Different the way that I teach this I want you to be very intentional and mindful that's the word mindful about every aspect of this application that's what's going to give you the Competitive Edge I can guarantee you this for every hundred people that are applying to law school business school or the these top for advanced degrees top schools for advanced degrees you're probably in the three to five% that are willing to think this intentionally this mindfully and this Focus filled on this that's how you're going to beat that's how you're GNA beat it that's how you're gonna win it and then last I want to talk about extracurriculars Slash a job because maybe this is your job let's talk about for students if you're a student your extracurriculars your internships I'm putting that all together volunteerism all of that is not to show how busy you are be very clear on this that's why I want you to be intentional the point is for you to be able to show them leadership and initiative and proactivity and those seven qualities we talked about one of the biggest mistakes that people make is listing all these things that they're doing thinking it's going to make them more impressive and in fact it might make them look less impressive nobody wants a jack of all trades in fact law schools and Business Schools and advanced schools are really moving away from that they're moving away from people doing a whole bunch of different things to focus I want I want you to know that so you can think like your mark I would rather you tell a story about you being involved in two or three activities that you stuck with for several years that we see growth that we see initiative that we see how you led that we see how you built something we see how you created something we see how you enhance something then for you to show 20 different things it's better to be Master than n be jack of all trades now let's say you've already graduated and you have a job that's going to probably count for more than 10 or 15% what's that career it does matter it does matter what career you go in I want you to be very clear on that I want you to be very clear on that so there's advantages and disadvantages to either way people say what's better because that's one of the question I get is it better to go straight through after college or is it better to go and work well I can't tell you what to do you have to do that yourself but what I can say is it's neither better or worse it depends on the situation it depends on the person it depends on the timing and most of all it really ultimately comes down to what you're trying to achieve there's advantages in disadvantages to both already told you if you're like me and you went straight you're going straight through from college to uh to graduate school well you don't have to answer the question of career as a career not where you're going but the career that you're already in nobody's expecting you to have this long work history but what you did in college is going to count so much more that's the other side of it waiting to get out and being out for several years the advantage there is well what happened in college especially if it wasn't to totally to your advantage matters less and less so you can lean more on the things you're doing in your career and that growth and how time you know years have gone on and people understand that there's a mindset shift that happens anyway when you're no longer a student so there's a there's a there's a growth that happens there almost naturally and if you're able to really speak to that that can work well for you but I've seen where people have gone into careers that seem to have nothing to do with this the degree they're looking to achieve that's not going to work well for them particularly the top schools they want to make sure that you're committed to this this wasn't something that came to you in the middle of the night and said oh I think I'll go to that school I mean you wouldn't want to tether yourself to somebody that's wishy-washy why would a why would a top school do that I want you to be thinking about that so it doesn't mean just because I work with people who have a fashion degree and a fashion career and gone into law school but we had to tell the story about initiative we had to tell the story about how they ran the company we have to tell the story about their George doctor is more about helping them to lean more into a way of looking at Arts so that's the connectivity and they weren't necessarily in fashion what they were as in art and that art is the same way that they see their law degree and they saw they see themselves as being in the art field in law meaning doing things and representing people in that field we were able to show remember I told you it's not just about the facts on the ground it's the story you tell about the facts that's the truth that's the difference between facts and the truth people can put around different facts but the truth is about what is the story you tell around it if we're able to tell a story that makes sense then it makes sense but do not fall into the the um the negative think pattern that oh what doesn't matter what career I'm in and if I get a great test score I can just go to this school some will accept it but when we talk about the IV League the gold standard whatever that gold standard is for you I guarantee you they're gonna be very intentional about wanting to know it first of all are you serious about this because that's what it partly shows especially you know when people have many different careers I remember one person came to me and I'm like okay you had five years and three careers this is going to be some work to work on this because because we go back to those skills and strengths that they're looking for does it speak to it or not speak to it so I want you to be clear on that not to be discouraged but so you know how to attack it those are what really makes now we're g to talk about some of the other pieces we're gonna talk about the diversity statement we're definitely gonna talk about that we're going to talk about that um that agenda that uh excuse me the personal statement then we're going to talk about the diversity statement everybody should write a diversity statement everybody I said that before I'll say it again I said it before I'll say it again everybody should be writing a diversity statement whether it's about your geography your family background um some incredible thing that you did because that leads to diversity as well it's not remember I told you it's not just about race ethnicity gender the things people go to first um it's it's about all these other pieces did you were you in the military I told you I work with the the young lady who was a commander in the military I've work with several people in the military but I keep going back with her with this because we did we made sure there was a diversity statement around that so I want you to begin to think deeper about it remember somebody else will take your hand and win with it so that's part of what I help people do see how incredible you already are and how to tell that story and enhance it we're going to talk about how to create videos I think you should create a video send it to the school I mean did you watch Legally Blonde I'm not telling you to spray the paper with uh perfume like like she did on Legally Blond but the point is still Salient you got to do something to stand above the crowd so I want to show you those pieces but the main the the brick and mortar of that whole person model is there so start at the end I want you to think like your mark throughout this week I want you to keep in your mind everything that we talked about right now throughout this week I want you to be thinking very clearly very carefully about what does this look like for you what does this look like for you I want you to have out a very clear intention how am I going to hit this Mark well you're going to hit this Mark by thinking like your mark first and secondly you're going to hit this Mark by being so clear that you're going to mirror everything that they're looking for you already do some way somehow we just have to know what the story is we have to know how to tell it and we have to know how to pull all the pieces together to make certain that you have a winning application this is my assignment for you today each day I'm gonna give you an assignment I want you I want you to do something a little little interesting here okay I want you to write out what you're doing once you have the degree write it out write it out I want you to go to the end with me you have the degree go with me for a second you already have the degree as of this moment what are you doing I want you to write that out I want you to make that very clear I know I told you before why do you want to get it what do you want to do what are you looking to achieve but this is about now what are you doing day by day with the degree what career are you in remember this isn't just about your educational Destiny it's your career destiny that intertwine I know that part of the reason why you're doing this and you're taking this class it's because you want to level up in your career maybe you want to build your business maybe you want to be an Enterprise Builder like me you wanna you you said look I don't want to have no job I want to give out jobs you say I don't want to sign the back of the check I want to sign the front okay whatever that is what are you doing day by day I knew I was very clear about the fact that I was going to law school not to practice law as it were I was going to law school because of the platform that would allow me to be able to speak into people's lives that's why I was going I was going for the platform I was clear about that even though some people say I don't think I would have done that well that's your life you get to choose your life I can choose mine ain't that the beauty of the world whatever that reason is nobody's here to tell you or trust me even if they are you just shouldn't listen listen and whether it's a good reason or not you just need to have it I want you to be very clear about what you're doing what are you doing because that's going to help us when we get to the personal statement that's going to help us talk about that so clearly so succinctly so wonderfully that it's just going to exude through tomorrow tomorrow we're going to talk about how to get committed and how to get in the spirit you're gonna love this you're G to love this we're gonna talk about how to get committed and get into the spirit that's why I want you to begin writing this now I'm going to show you how to fuse with the thing you're looking for and how you Achi all right thank you thank you thank you for traveling with me and journeying with me day one you too can be in the ivy league seven days to masterminding your educational and career Destiny my name is Daryl Bennett see you tomorrow
