STICK MUCH, THIS IS VERY LIGHT SNOW OF COURSE, BUT ANY FLAKES THIS TIME OF YEAR IS JUST A REALLY NOTABLE THING. I KNOW YOU HAVE A LOOK AT THE RADAR AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT JUMPED OUT TO ME WHEN YOU WERE SHOWING IT EARLIER WAS THAT IT WASN'T JUST A QUICK LITTLE BLIP THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A MISTAKE OR ANOMALY, THERE WAS AN ACTUAL BAND OF SNOW THAT WAS ON THE RADAR. >> YES, WE COULD SEE THE SNOW, AND NOT JUST A LITTLE BIT, I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU IN A SECOND, IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 20 YEARS SINCE AUGUST HAS SEEN SNOWFALL IN THE SIERRA. >> TOTALLY UNUSUAL, UNPRECEDENTED AND I'M SURE THERE ARE CLIMATE CHANGE IMPLICATIONS OF THIS, WE COULD HAVE A WHOLE CONVERSATION ABOUT THAT. >> BUT RIGHT NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE CURRENT FORECAST, IT IS A QUIET START TO THE DAY, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN AND IT IS VERY CLOUDY, A LOT OF MOISTURE MAKING ITS WAY ACROSS THE BAY AREA. BUT, LOOK AT THE SNOW ACROSS THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS, WE ARE LOOKING AT ABOUT 8000 FEET UP, THAT IS WHERE THE CHANCE FOR SNOW IS, TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE ABOUT 36 DEGREES. THIS STORM SYSTEM IS DRAWING IN AIR ONLY FROM ALASKA, THAT IS WHERE THE COLD AIR IS COMING FROM AND THE REASON WE ARE FILLING SUCH A BIG CHILL AS WE STEP OUT EARLY THIS MORNING, NOT NECESSARILY CHILLY BUT INTO THE AFTERNOON IT WILL REMAIN COOL AND COMFORTABLE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR AS YOU CAN SEE THE SWIRL OF THAT LOW-PRESSURE SYSTEM ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. AND BECAUSE WE ARE ON THE SOUTHERNMOST EDGE OF THIS SYSTEM, WE ARE NOT NECESSARILY SEEING THE MOST ABUNDANT MOISTURE BUT THE FACT THAT WE SEE ANYTHING THIS TIME OF YEAR IS IMPRESSIVE. SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT PICKED UP 10th OF AN INCH OF RAINFALL THIS MORNING, THE ROADS ARE STILL A LITTLE BIT WET, TAKE IT EASY ON THE ROADS BECAUSE THESE CONDITIONS MIGHT MAKE IT A LITTLE BIT SLIPPERY. TEMPERATURES ARE VERY MILD, EVERYBODY IS SITTING IN THE LOW 60s BECAUSE OF THE CLOUD COVERAGE. THE CLOUDS KEEP US INSULATED OVERNIGHT AND DON'T ALLOW THE OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES TO GET VERY COOL, THAT IS WHY WE ARE ALL SITTING IN THE LOW 60s BUT WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET TOO MUCH HOTTER THIS AFTERNOON AS THE CLOUD COVERAGE WILL STICK AROUND. WE ARE EXPECTING THE SUN TO PEEK OUT A COUPLE TIMES THIS AFTERNOON, BUT WE ARE EXPECTING MORE CHANCES FOR DRIZZLE AS WELL, SO IT IS A MIXED BAG AND IT IS NOT GOING TO BE CLOUDY ALL DAY BUT THERE IS DEFINITELY THE POTENTIAL TO SEE THAT FOG FILLING IN OVERNIGHT TONIGHT AND BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON THAT IS WHEN THE SUNSHINE WILL RETURN AND THAT IS WHEN THE TEMPERATURES WILL BEGIN TO CLIMB EVEN MORE. THERE'S GOING TO BE WARMER AREAS TODAY, INLAND AREAS UPPER 70s TO LOW 80s COMPARED TO MID TO LOWER 70s YESTERDAY. SAN FRANCISCO WE MIGHT BE NEAR 70 DEGREES AS WELL AS THAT LARGE STORM SYSTEM WILL QUICKLY DEPART AFTER TODAY. TODAY IS THE TRANSITION PERIOD AS THAT STORM SYSTEM WILL BE MAKING ITS WAY OFF TO THE NORTHEAST AND AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL BEGIN TO DEVELOP OFF THE WEST COAST. THIS AREA ALSO KNOWN AS A HEAT DOME WILL BEGIN TO BRING EXCESSIVE HEAT ESPECIALLY TO THE INLAND LOCATIONS AS WE STEP OUT OVER THE NEXT 72 HOURS. TODAY, GET OUT AND ENJOY YOURSELF BECAUSE BY THE TIME WE STEP OUT TOMORROW, THERE'S ALREADY THAT ELEVATED RISK FOR HEAT RELATED ILLNESS AND BY MONDAY INTO TUESDAY, THAT RISK BECOMES MORE MODERATE AND EVEN HIGH AS WE STEP OUT NEXT WEEK. THAT IS GOING TO BE OUR BIGGEST ISSUE, THE HEAT BUILDING MONDAY AND INTO TUESDAY, NEAR TRIPLE DIGIT HIGH TEMPERATURES FOR SOME OF THE INLAND LOCATIONS. THERE IS LIKELY GOING TO BE AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT, IF NOT MONDAY THEN DEFINITELY TUESDAY. EVEN THE BAY AREA, AND FOR THOSE OF US THAT DON'T HAVE AIR CONDITIONING, THAT IS VERY HOT, SOMETHING TO KEEP YOUR EYE ON IN THE EARLY PARTS OF THE WORK WEEK. GET OUT TODAY AND EVEN TOMORROW. BACK TO YOU. >>> TRIPLE
