Music hey hey everyone and welcome into the Big 10 huddle I'm your host JR we've got a lot to talk about going on in the Big 10 with me tonight is John Deo from Michigan Wolverines live had John on before and he's a great guest very knowledgeable and we have a topic today that he's going to be very involved in Introductions and know a lot about so I think we're going to have some good information there John how you doing tonight I'm doing I'm doing all right it's it's really great that we're finally back into ball season got the games on the screen uh finally we're we're not talking about like I don't know who was the best who was the most disputed National Championship in the last you know Century or you know who who should have gotten a Heisman no we're talking actual games and it's great oh yeah yeah we're not talking about uh documentaries that you know have people dressed as you know like they're robbing a bank in them and stuff like that oh my gosh what every time I see somebody making fun of brohio on Twitter I'm like I feel like as an Ohio State fan I'm supposed to defend him but I can't yeah it's it's question I mean there's there are conspiracy theories from Buckeye people that it's it's like a Michigan like somebody on the Michigan side it's like an actor because how would they possibly have a wolverine on the desk um I don't know but but for people people who do give a crap about that I did a whole show on stallions Monday night and so people can if they want to hear about it then that they can get an hour and a half of that over on the Michigan Channel there you go go get your stallions fix over on the Michigan Channel John deos got you covered I did I did a video of it over on the Ohio State Channel as well it's probably not as long as yours so if you just want a small fix you can go to the Ohio state if you want a large fix go to John or if you just want both fixes go for it you want both sides of it absolutely well John I'm so excited to have you on tonight uh I think we have a lot of good things to discuss we do have the unfortunate upset of Minnesota we'll get into but before we do that I just want to get your thoughts on Colorado man they are crazy I know this isn't big 10 discussion so there's going to be some people like oh this is a big 10 show we'll get to the Big 10 don't worry but I mean Colorado Dion sers almost losing to North Dakota State what what's what's your thoughts on that whole thing so I mean on the one hand you got to give credit to Dion for I mean Colorado before Dion nobody cared right they were one in 11 they weren't they were they were they had an empty Stadium every week Dion comes in all of a sudden people they're getting National media attention they're get they have some actual talent on their team shador Sanders Travis Hunter um but but now we're at year two and it and and and there's going to be an expectation to start to prove some like when you get out and you're Banning reporters and you're you know acting like you're you're God's gift to football every single week um you know there's going to be some expectation of backing it up at some point and um and what we saw last night was Colorado like winning a game that they probably should have lost um the refs were really slanted towards Colorado um the whoever was managing the time clock it was preseason for them too I guess because uh because they like it was just you know they NDSU probably should have had a little bit more time to get it in the end zone but um you know the fact that they barely escaped and not not it's not your grandpa's NDSU okay this is a they've lost a lot of talent um I'd say they're mid- tier now maybe above average but it's not like it's the best FCS team in the world um so the fact that they just skated by it's still the same bad trench play it's still too you know if it like literally shador Sanders and Travis Hunter are that team and Travis can't play on offense and defense as much as he is if they continue this all season he is going to get injured again and then they then they really are screwed because um so I think um Nebraska bringing it to Big 10 World um Nebraska next week is I I was talking with um Justin Adams our guy over at uh Nebraska fo football at the voice of college football and and I was saying look I mean I think you guys are going to stomp this team because you have the better trench play and you have Dylan rayola now um so I think it's going to be the opposite of what happened last year uh Nebraska's gonna get its revenge I I think so too we we'll probably fully break down that game on Tuesday I would think uh when we go into that with with Zach but man I'm right there with you Colorado like they had the two best players on the field in Travis and shadur Sanders and I don't want to take away from shadur Sanders like I almost feel bad for the guy because of like the circus that his dad is and the fans are and the media and everything else I mean like you got the media out here acting like they just got like a top 10 win no this is like this is an FCS team like I'm not trying to diminish North Dakota state by any means necessary like but this is a this is an FCS team like yes they are a very good FCS team but as a power four team we're not just talking about FBS as a power four team you should be able to take care of North Dakota State sure maybe it's close after the first half or something like that but then you roll you take care of him but I'm right there with the on Travis Hunter man I think that he catches a little bit of a break in this game because North Dakota State isn't as big they aren't as physical but I mean you're going to meet Tony White's defense next week with Nebraska you're not going to be able to play every snap on offense and defense just the way they're going to be able to hit you so yeah he's going to need an ice bath if he uh plays a lot like like it's fine if it's a couple of plays I understand if it's a long if it's a long ball you're trying to get a deep a couple of deep shots in or you need an end zone like you're you're behind by two points and you need an end zone score okay fine but like there's like you've got to be able to have like this is the thing with Dion poor player management poor time management should have kneeled it out at the end of that game and it there wouldn't have been that almost comeback uh by an FCS team if they just kneeled it out yeah no I totally agree it wasn't quite Mario Chris Ball level from last year so you know he doesn't get that tag on him but yeah I mean he they gave North North de North Dakota State a chance at the end of that game that they they really should have never had I mean luckily for them their quarterback didn't have a strong enough arm to throw the ball 50 yards but if he had a strong enough arm I mean the dude caught that ball at the they could have four four yards four yards away four yards away so anyway all right well let's talk about some big 10 football here John we have Minnesota there we go Minnesota Falls to Minnesota vs North Carolina Recap North Carolina uh dragon catchet last year Big 10 kicker of the Year misses two field goals in this game uh one of them rather easy the other one a little bit harder but still Big 10 kicker of the Year reigning Big 10 kicker of the year should be able to win that one John would Jake Moody have missed two kicks like this I mean Jake Moody would never right no no uh he I mean that man rarely missed I was there when he hit the gamewinner against Illinois yeah um that saved the you know saved the season uh or or at least saved a much more likely playoff birth um so so yeah this uh this this is yet another I'm pretty sure we all had a show uh we had a show and and I've been on a couple of big 10 shows and I've said PJ Fleck is uh I think it's I think it's time for him him to to maybe go and become a motivational speaker and uh and leave college football alone and uh I I just I just think it's um it's it's it's run you know we talked about Dion PJ Fleck is another example of of all Bluster but you know all all hat no cattle right um it you know there I just don't see a lot of answers uh for Replacements at quarterback basically um the last two years have just made me scratch my head um you know Tanner Morgan was was pretty solid and they had something going in 2019 um I understand that Minnesota has never hasn't really historically for many years been very good and I get that but um at some point even Minnesota's going to say you know what we're I think we're might we might be done with this well I mean they were ranked uh what was it two or three years ago they were 11 and two I I don't know I I don't know if Max brosmer is as bad as some people are saying he is he definitely had a hard time with the pass rush I mean five sacks that's too many um I I think that you know the uh the North Carolina pass rush was able to get home a little bit more and he did have some problems maneuvering the pocket which I mentioned in the preview that he's not the most mobile mobile guy in the world I do think he's mobile enough to maneuver the pocket but he uh didn't do a great job of that uh last night so I don't know I to me the biggest thing is PJ Fleck has to stop being so darn conservative because they were able to move the ball at times and then there were other times when they got into the into the Red Zone and PJ's like well let's just run the ball and it's like no like you have to also you you can't be running the ball from third and and goal when you're on the 10 yard line like you have to at least give yourself a shot and like yes they were having some success running the ball Marcus major uh is a is a good back in my mind he uh had 20 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown so I mean obviously you'd like a little bit more production there a little bit better efficiency but at the same time North Carolina was taking care of that offensive line better than I thought they were going to and uh and at the end of the day like you you have to have a passing threat and I just to me to me it feels like PJ flex's goal on offense is to not throw an interception to where his goal should be move the ball down the field to which like I kind of get the conservative gamepl you have a good defense don't turn the ball over but you also got to take some shots you also got to open it up a little bit and spread things out let your quarterback be able to work I mean you have the FCS passing leader from last year on your team you I mean if you go out get that guy you got to let him throw the ball around a little bit more yeah I think it I think it speaks volumes that that a coach that uh I have a lot of respect for what he did at Texas and wi won the title m brown is about 10 years past his prime he's scribbling plays on a Bob Evans napkin and and PJ flet can't get it done against him and and you know without without Drake No More Drake May no more threats on that front um pretty mediocre and Minnesota still can't get it done even against that type of team so it's it's looking like uh not maybe not even a bowl uh but skiu pod who I'm assuming this is a Minnesota podcast yeah um makes zero sense why PJ parted ways with aan cikmis just to bring in brosmer and ask him to do nothing and I actually didn't hate I thought Athan was uh pretty pretty okay I mean look he like he's not um you know no nobody's nobody's saying he's Elway but but but he was serviceable um so to see quarterback play that's maybe not even as good as Athan was uh that that just maybe maybe skiu pod the only thing I can think of is that it was a a Personality Clash or an ego Clash uh that's the only thing I can think of because from a talent perspective it seems like it took a dip yeah I mean I I definitely think there was uh some good stuff for cak Manis on why he would want to move on right I mean Kirk Saka his old offensive coordinator who he did his best with two years ago uh when he came in to fill in for Tanner morai he is now over a Ruckers and so the thought of well I worked much better with that offensive coordinator I do think brosmer is more accurate than cak Manis was I was watching that recers game right before the Minnesota game and I was like man I've said this for two years now k Manis has like he has the height and he can be a an NFL quarterback if he would be able to put himself to it but unfortunately he just he doesn't have the accuracy and the arm strength I don't think is there enough to make up for that lack of accuracy I think if he develops a little bit better but it's late enough in his career you kind of need to be seeing those flashes a little bit more for them to be an NFL quarterback I we'll see what happens moving forward I hope at some point the offensive coordinator from Minnesota or PJ Fleck or whoever it needs to be starts trusting brosmer a little bit more maybe it was just the first game but I mean we also have talked about it too John Minnesota should have won this game like that kicker should have made that last kick or he should have made the kick that was in the red zone so I mean how much how much blame do we put on PJ Fleck when he's trusting the reigning Big 10 kicker of the year to make his field goal and he just doesn't make it yeah just uh couldn't couldn't call up Arkansas State and get their kicker because Michigan already did that so uh you know I guess slim pickings but um you know uh look look I I I just again I'm not expecting Minnesota to stomp a team like North Carolina but yeah like I don't think I don't think 2019 is that unreasonable to to hope for uh for Fleck this this far into his career so um again just questionable Personnel decision making continues shout out know Bernett that K that kicker for North Carolina man he had a 52 y four for four on the day he won he won that game for North Carolina cuz y as many things as we're saying about PJ Fleck right now if that kid didn't hit his kicks you could be saying some of the same stuff about absolutely Brown absolutely and I've I've been critical um since you know with he didn't really have an answer after Drake May and yep um and we're seeing that yeah um do want to say really fast before we move on uh hope everything is okay with Max Johnson and everything uh he's out for the season unfortunately after this so uh thoughts and prayers to him and uh hopefully he I don't think he has any more eligibility left I don't know how all the rules work with the injuries if he can come back next year but um hoping for uh him to be able to continue his football career in some way shape or form so all right John we are going to do a commercial really fast and then we'll get back to talking about some big 10 games and then after the Big 10 games we'll talk about the Michigan quarterback situation stay with us have you ever Channel go check it out we are going to be talking about the games of big 10 teams because it's it's G5 and FCS week in the Big 10 right now John we have so many games so many many games against FCS and and G5 opponents one independent team so I'm going to throw them in there sorry Yukon you uh you you burned the status of G5 tonight uh and so what John and I are going to do is we are going to rank these 11 games and I I don't think this will take too long but we're going to rank these 11 games who do we think will win with the highest or I should say the largest margin of Victory and who will win with the smallest margin of Victory or do we think there could be a big 10 team that might get upset out there I do have one big 10 team that I think is a little bit on upset alert we'll get there when we get to my 11th pick so John I'll go first all right I won't make my guess go first I'll go first um you remember last year when Oregon put up 70 points on their opponent yeah I think that's gonna happen again this year my largest margin of Victory is gonna be Oregon over Idaho Dan Lanning seems to uh he doesn't play for clicks but he definitely plays for points John so that's gonna be my number one Oregon vers Idaho so uh akaran Ohio state has the maybe one of the largest spreads ever 50 and a half uh and so it's really between those two um I think I'll go I think I'll go Oregon with this one and then I think you could probably imagine who I'm going next but that's what I was going to say is Ohio state is next for me I think uh we'll see what happens with the quarterback situation in the offense I think I'm a little bit more confident in Oregon's offense uh just a little bit of question there with well Howard and the offensive line they shouldn't be any problem for akan I mean we're not we say there's a little bit of question there we're not talking like are they going to be able to put up 30 on on akan but uh who knows are they going to be able to put up 50 or they only going to be able to put up 40 we'll see but uh but yeah that's my second team so I assume that's your second team as well John yeah I and kind of same same principle there um there there are some question marks which is why I don't have them as High um especially at at quarterback you know it is it is somebody who uh allegedly was about to get benched at Kansas State so um he still one out in Camp which means he's good enough to you know Ryan day has kind of picked him um and this will be the premiere of Jeremiah Smith who from what I've heard is the second coming of um I don't know you know some like mhj and and Alive put together uh for for all all the praise I've heard uh but but the big question mark will be o line can the right tackle can the center um you know can they can they hold on because there's there's question marks at both of those positions and um and and also at guard so we'll we'll just have to see uh but I I I do have them as my second to largest spread yeah it's more the right side of the offensive line like you talked about the The Tackle and the guard I think Seth mclin's biggest thing is snapping just can you snap the ball efficiently that's the biggest thing we'll see they say his snapping has been good in Camp so far so I don't know there was a lot of talk about it was just him and jayen milro you know something with that going on I don't know who knows exactly what it was I just we see it in the game and uh if it looks good I'll feel okay if it doesn't look good I'll be saying oh no we can't have this so um Brian brings up a good comment here he says wish uh with all the new schools I kind of wish the Big 10 would have opened the season with at least one or two conference games that would have generated a lot of interest that's true they did have Ohio State Indiana last year John I don't remember if they had anybody else opening weekend but that would have been nice to see a Maryland Nebraska or somebody like that you know maybe it's not you're putting your big products out there uh for a huge game but at least get something out there I agree that would have been nice to see yeah um yeah I I think uh that would be awesome uh we do have some interesting matchups and uh clearly we you know we're gonna there there we'll be talking about the uh the SCC uh later a little bit so we'll we'll discuss some of the really interesting uh you know uh some of the matchups there as well um but yeah let's keep rolling yeah let's do it all right my number three is actually this might come to a shock to some people Purdue I think Purdue could really take it to Indiana State listen Indiana last year beat Indiana State by like 40 so if Indiana last year Tom Allen Indiana can beat Indiana State by 40 who they almost lost to akan last year if they can beat Indiana State by 40 uh I'm going to say Purdue has a pretty good shot of doing that against Indiana state who's your number three John so this is a tough one for me again I'm between two um but I'm actually going to go with Eastern Illinois at Illinois um they're favored by 30 and a half uh it's it's uh just the third FCS opponent uh for Illinois since 2017 uh and Eastern Illinois has a real problem at coordinator uh their defense coordinator left for Southern Miss their OC left for Western Illinois so as far as I'm concerned I think it's uh I I think Illinois is gonna gonna have a good a good showing Brett belma uh wants to send a message after last year's kind of mediocrity I think he's gonna want to try to get back to to the greatness of 2022 which I mean for for Illinois was greatness right uh there's relative greatness um and and that was definitely a very very good season for them so I think that they want to try to get back to that so I'm gonna go I'm gonna go there and then uh yeah say Philip just brought it up Illinois played last night they beat him 45 to nothing so could be the could be the third most of all of them though but that's right it was a Thursday game yeah yeah um but hey if you're saying that if you're saying nobody else is gonna beat their opponent by 45 all for it yeah yeah all right you got another one there yeah then I will go Purdue uh yeah so so yeah I think uh I think Purdue is uh obviously they're favored by a lot um the the only issue is there is a pretty major uh wide receiver injury but um you know last time they played they won 56 to nothing now now obviously that was with a very very different head coach and a very very different offensive philosophy but I yeah I'm I'm I'm putting uh I'm definitely going going that one next all right makes sense I think my next one will be Nebraska against UTEP UTEP uh not not very good this year under my uh thought process and I think that Nebraska is going to keep the the ones in there a little bit longer try to get Dylan Rola some more time to be able to to work with those receivers and uh try to just maybe not like try to score the ball too too much and embarrass him but I think he's just going to be like look if we're rolling and we can give this team some confidence I'm going to go with it and uh have them have them do their thing so Nebraska is my number four against UTEP yeah I think that's a I think that's a pretty solid one um you know they are they are favored by a lot I'm actually gonna go I I I think I'm going to go though with uh Weber State at Washington um so Weber State at Washington they're they're uh Washington's favored by 29 and a half I understand that kayin dbor is no longer the uh the head coach but you know who is Jed fish and Jed fish has won a lot of games himself um I think I think he's is he going to have a bit of a of a dip from last year compared to you know going defeated until the national championship game yes but I think uh I think that I think Washington will be able to take care of business very handily against Weber State that's a good pick I was I was uh debating Washington there as well but ultimately I had one team over Washington and then I have and then I have them and it's uh your Wolverines there John I think that the you know Michigan is going to be really hyped they're goingon to have their big celebration and everything that they're going to be doing is that before the game or after the game it's got to be before right uh sorry which what what the big celebration yeah like the celebration that they're doing oh for uh for um yeah so they've I know that they've got uh they've got the honorary Captain thing with with Jack Harbaugh yeah uh so they're going to be doing that I don't recall exactly when that's slated to be but I know that I mean the logical thing would be before the game but uh but yeah I think that's what I saw I Michigan I I know there's question marks about the quarterback and stuff like that and I know some people brought up Fresno State beat Purdue last year but I mean they also beat Purdue last year so Purdue was not a very good football team last year and they had a whole lot of injuries and stuff like that going on so uh you know I I I think Michigan takes care of this one and uh and they're going to be able to move on and whatever quarterback is in there for them I don't know if it really matters they're still going to be able to move the ball against Fresno State and uh be just fine because guess what Fresno State probably not scoring more than three maybe seven points well well for people who watch the show on uh on Tuesday Michigan Wolverines live um you know I actually have the margin uh not not super super large for that one um and I have a lot of I have a lot of reasons why but we'll get to I'll definitely get to my pick on that one in a little bit but I'm G to go with UTEP at Nebraska uh for my next because you know obviously this is huge um this is nebras Nebraska was making strides towards the end of last year in physicality and trench play and then you add on an actually legitimate quarterback and they're going to be crushing some teams um I actually think that they're going to beat Colorado by more but but I but yeah yeah I think they're going to smoke Colorado because they're they're going to go all out like they're not going to go all out against you they're going to they're going to dis they're going to leave a lot vanilla um but I think they really want to beat Colorado like like they got kind of humbled last year in a game that really should have gone you know the other way but that's credit to Shawn Lewis's offensive play calling who's no longer there because he had an ego battle with um Dion so no Dion had an ego battle with somebody they didn't quite get along uh and and uh and so he got demoted and then he he uh he he obviously wanted wanteded out when he wasn't able to call plays anymore which makes sense because he's actually doing very well and yeah I guess uh Dion wanted his son to play more herob ball and and get protected less and and have play calls that um actually didn't help him as much but you know that's that's his prerogative as the head coach but anyway back to this game I think I think uh Nebraska is going to going to easily take care of business at home against UTEP um so that that would be my next pick I agree I agree my next one is actually the one you already previously mentioned is Washington I do think there will be a little bit of an acclamation process there new quarterback and Will Rogers and I don't think Will Rogers really throw it throw the ball all around the field kind of guy I think if they are very efficient and quickly with their efficiency they can score a lot and take care of Weber State but we'll see I think there's going to be a little bit of working it in and like I said well Will Rogers he's just not he doesn't have the strongest arm in the world so I think it's going to be much more kind of moving the ball and letting the receivers uh do what they do uh so it might take a little bit longer for him to score but yeah I got Washington at sixth who is your number six there John so this one's this one's a uh now we're starting to get into now we're starting to get into uh slightly slightly tougher um I I'm gonna I'm gonna go I don't think I've I don't think I've mentioned uh Yukon Maryland yet um so so I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Yukon Maryland um and you know I think uh obviously this is going to be the first game in a very long time without toia taga um but it's still lock ley's offense uh against a Yukon team that is starting a very very transfer quarterback um started at Wiscon you know he uh he was in the Wisconsin program he was in the Oklahoma program um but Loxley is very good against non-conference opponents he's 11-4 uh against non-conference opponents that's that's pretty impressive for Maryland um so I think you know September Maryland do don't ever bet against September Maryland uh they're they're tough in September under lockley so I'm I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Yukon at Maryland that should be like a line for the show don't ever bet against September Maryland now November Maryland you know your guess was good as mine but uh maybe I should say October I don't know they've given they gave Ohio State a really good battle one time in November so uh all right my number seven team give me the fighting Kirk cetes of Indiana I think that Kirk cetti is coming in there and he is ready and he's going to pounce and uh poor little FIU Florida International is in the way so give me Indiana at seven yep me too um so yeah yeah F FIU at Indiana um fi has been a joke for years uh meanwhile Indiana with a new head coach who actually knows what they're doing um they're they're obviously there's uh there's an allm quarterback starting for Indiana uh but yeah I I just think that the factors are it's more that F FIU is not very good than IU is very good but I think I think cetti I've said already once uh this is a statement game for a couple of new coaches I think this is another statement game um and Signet is gonna Signet is gonna do I think pretty well in his first his first outing and he's aggressive too I think that's a big piece of it is he's gonna be really aggressive and try to make a statement all right my number eight is Iowa Tim Lester and Kirk frence I think this is more the fact of Eastern or not Eastern Illinois state is just not a good football team you know definitely compared to the power four I was strongly considering Maryland over them but I was like this is an FCS team Iowa should be able to beat uh Illinois State more than Maryland beats Yukon we'll see but um this was my lowest FCS team that's against a big 10 team well I hate to follow the leader again but um I'm GNA go with you on this one again we'll have a different one for the next one but um yeah but Illinois State at Iowa um a couple of fact to to keep in mind on this game Kirk fence isn't going to be the head coach of this game um he's suspended due to the recruiting violations um and also the uh as we know a wide receiver Caleb Brown you probably remember from Ohio State um you know transferred to Iowa last year um he was arrested and he will not uh in the offseason so he will not play uh but despite all of that you do have an actual real offensive coordinator with a pulse um who isn't a high a high schooled you know terrible uh level J level uh offensive coordinator that's a menace to football um so I think that I think that for those reasons um I was actually going to be able to move the ball a bit uh Cade mcamera is back from injury uh I think he's going to want to sling it a little bit because there's been a lot of smoke that you know he kind of got carried in 2021 um in at Michigan there's been a lot of smoke about that and I think he's going to want to prove everybody wrong and so with for those reasons that's why I've got them where I've got them I agree I agree I've been forgetting to keep up on the comments here so we're going to go through a couple of these Philip says Indiana seems like Colorado last year a bunch of mid- major transfers Indiana starts well and then falls apart maybe I do think KRS and net is a better Coach than Dion so I think they might be but but I I see what you're saying about a bunch of mid mid- major transfers coming in and I think that you know kind of the direction of the season will be based on their hype and their confidence and stuff like that negative Mike thanks uh being here negative Mike he says Iowa defense might outscore their offense this is true this is true uh Brian not a fan of of Kirk fence says ference is overr hope he retires or get fired soon I'm giving you information right now Brian he's not getting fired so you're you're hope is retire retirement yeah he's basically God in Iowa yeah like he's he's the ni he's the equivalent of Nick sabbin at Alabama when he was coaching exactly uh James Monroe thanks for being here James says scandal at Iowa never uh yeah there's been three of them because I there's an offensive lineman that uh I guess that's not really a scandal he got arrested uh he's been I think he is uh suspended for this game too uh and then Philip says MSU still trying to make itself look terrible it's unfortunate for Aiden Charles because I think Aiden Charles has got a lot of talent uh didn't look great on that very first pass but uh yeah the team around him at least from what I saw in the first half I didn't get to see the second half so far it's not it wasn't great yeah and now FAU is moving the ball on the ground so that's so you know who knows they in the Red Zone may maybe FAU comes back and uh pulls off the upset that's I'm pulling for it but uh no no worries folks we'll be out of here before the end that game so you can catch it if there isn't [Laughter] upset all right uh my next one is number nine this is where I have Marilyn John I think uh there's a little bit of concern for me with the quarterback position and what exactly Mike loley is going to do there and I just I I don't know how good of a coach Mike lockley is without Leah I mean just being honest I'm not trying to disparage him but I mean he he won a lot of games because of Tonga TOA tongoa and my opinion and so to not have him there you don't necessarily have a quarterback that I'm super confident in we'll see what happens I like their receivers I like aspects of that team I think their linebackers are going to be better than people are giving credit for but uh we we'll see what happens here that's my number nine yeah and um and look Billy Edwards Jr if he's the one have they picked do you know if they picked Billy Edwards Jr yet or um because look he played in the B yeah it was between him and MJ a depth chart came out today and I okay I think I missed looking at it I'll look I'm sure somebody in chat some of these people in chat keep better watch than than we than than us you know sometimes so uh so maybe they know but uh but but I I I mean I was impressed with what I saw um at the uh at the Music City Bowl so I I think uh I think he would be I think he'll he'll do well but um my next pick is my Michigan Wolverine um so I I did predict on Tuesday that Michigan would beat Fresno State 27 to13 so this is around where that type of score would be right so um so I would say I would say Michigan is uh obviously we're going to talk about quarterback in a little bit uh so we'll save that for a little bit I'm GNA have to eat a bunch of crow on that um but uh you look Fresno State is Fresno State uh but we did have an expert uh Fresno State expert on the show on Tuesday um Caleb nail from Bea Bulldogs podcast he was talking about how you they're going to be coming out with a lot of emotion um obviously they're you know had their head coach uh was not able to continue for medical reasons right who was a a very very good coach for them um so their assistant coach uh there's going to be a there's going to be a lot of emotions uh for them it's a night game and Michigan is Michigan let's face it has some question marks at offense and they're not going to want to show a lot because the the following week uh they're playing a team that was in the college football playoff uh the year before so they're they're going to want to keep it vanilla they're going to want to keep it very I mean we're talking some throws you know some some a lot of in you're gonna see a lot of inside Zone you're GNA see a lot of Donovan Edwards now he's more bulked up pounding that you know the a gap you're going to see khil mullings pounding the a gap and the B Gap you're going to see a little bit of passing to coulston lovelin six foot five um you're going to see him get some a lot of like those tight end option like out routes and and things like that uh so be for those reasons and the fact that I think the defense will keep Fresno State um to 13 I'm putting I'm putting Michigan Fresno here wow I'm the Ohio State fan I and I have more confidence in uh in Michigan coming up in this game uh than you do I I I think that they'll have probably about 30 points I think you're right in that probably maybe a little bit less 27 24 something just because of the quarterback situation and what's going on there and you know with that always breeds a little bit of uncertainty and so I do think they need to figure that out for this game obviously against Texas but I don't know unless Mason Graham you know is really held back because of this whatever injury or whatever's going on in Camp I don't know if he's really injured I think they just said he's kind of been sitting out a little bit here and there Ohio state has some players like that as well I just I think this Fresno State offens of line is not going to be great I think that they lost a number of guys from last year and I just think when you have the best part of this Michigan defense going up against probably the worst part of uh the Fresno State offense I think Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant are going to do pretty okay and you know everybody else who uh rotates into that defensive line they're going to be doing just fine in my opinion as well so we'll see might be might be 13 might be seven we'll see so yeah the line the line uh is something that Caleb brought up and uh and he was predicting that there would be a lot of play action called uh to try to you know kind of like what Colorado did at the start of last year with Shawn Lewis a lot of things to misdirect and pre- snap motion and and just uh pay no attention to the the man behind the curtain like Wizard of Oz you know the fact is the o line is not going to be very good so they're going to have to play call around it um and that's what Caleb was kind of uh was kind of predicting on the show so yeah I'm going I'm going Mission Fresno there makes sense all right if we're getting into uh the bottom of it all now these are the last two teams and I think if you were going to label these as upset alerts these would probably be the two teams you do one I feel a little bit better about than the other and the other one the one that I feel better about is UCLA at Hawaii I have no idea why they're going to Hawaii I guess you know Chip Kelly when he was scheduling this game just wanted to give the players a Hawaii vacation who knows but uh they're going to Hawaii the line on this game is only minus 14 so I do feel a little iffy about how this is going to go for UCLA I could see them starting slow and pulling ahead a little bit by a score or two at the end and you know it's close but also feels pretty comfortable at the same time we'll see but I just think when you're going to Hawaii that just puts a little bit of a wrench into it and makes it difficult yeah so since I messed up I still have three teams so I'm going to go uh uh earlier so I'm going to I'm going to go Miami uh next well let's see now does the does the margin does it matter which is on either side of the margin like can it be like if I'm thinking that the oh you're thinking Miami's win no I'm thinking later on but for but yeah I'm just trying to calculate it doesn't matter okay yeah then my next one is going to be um it's probably going to be LSU beating USC by a pretty like I I think it I think a decent margin um you know they're they're favored by six and a half to beat USC uh but I think they're I think they're going to I think they're going to score a lot um they do lose their Heisman quarterback uh you know to the NFL but I do think that I do think that uh Brian Kelly has had some had some black uh for not really having that B that that 11-1 or 12-0 or like you that season that like propels them last time LSU was in the college football playoff I believe was that 2019 uh at oraron season so Brian Kelly still hasn't really broken that that hump and let's be really honest USC has problems they have problem at defense yes they have a uh deanan Lynn is now their defensive coordinator but you and I both know that new defensive systems take two to three years to properly install with the right Personnel um they do run kind of like a Ravens 425 multiple like uh Michigan but it's still going to take a year to really level that thing up um so I think that I think that for those reasons uh they're going to do fine on offense with Miller Moss but this is this is going to be LSU's game so I'm I think that that'll be a larger margin than the other two um then I'm then uh I'll go with after that um I think uh yeah this is an interesting one because part of me does want to pick Hawaii but I but I think U UCLA will will get will get the win by a little bit more than Northwestern uh will get the win so I'm I'm going to say I'm going to say UCLA at Hawaii is my second to last um new head coach obviously for UCLA uh but Hawaii is Hawaii uh they they you know this isn't like Hawaii's definitely been good at times in history I don't think this team is is that team and they're uh obviously two and five uh against on conference opponents at home this is at Hawaii so yeah give me UCLA at Hawaii as my second to last yeah and Brian brings up a good point here he says if you're going to recruit Simone players playing a game in Hawaii probably a good thing so yeah if that was a thought process there I suppose that was something that was a oversight by me that I'm just thinking man why is a power four team going to a G5 team but that would make sense if you're that's a fair point yeah absolutely great Point congrats congrats fa uh on on that touchdown so uh they just got a touchdown yeah so so 1610 now I was G to say thank goodness for that safety they're up by a touchdown still um all right my last one and I think this is your last one too if I'm doing the math on it correctly John is Northwestern uh versus Miami Ohio look I think northwestern's going to win this one but I do think there is some concern there I think it's weird because I think David Braun is a really good coach and I think that he's going to do some good things but I mean you have new quarterback Mike right Mike Wright coming in you have some question marks and other ends of it I have not seen any chatter like one of the things I look for the most in the off season is you know how many teams are players getting talked about for the NFL draft and stuff like that because you know you can look at recruiting rankings but guess what players get developed and they play over their recruiting rankings or sometimes they play Under the recruiting rankings so you can't just rely on that so I look at a lot of like NFL draft talk I mean like the only player on this Northwestern team that's getting talked about as an n draft possible player is Cam Porter and so for me like David Bron is going to have to do something miraculous this season to be the team that they were last year uh I only picked him to win one game in the Big 10 this year we'll see he'll probably prove me wrong he'll probably do something but I do have my concerns going into this game against Miami of Ohio like I said they should win I I will be embarrassed for them if they don't but I do think that it could possibly be by one score possibly two look Northwestern was the biggest uh Cinderella story of last year um D David Brawn I I think most people going into that season thought he was going to win a grand total of like one game of football maybe two and he proved everyone wrong myself included it was my biggest whiff of my predictions that I had um I predicted 2 and 10 they went uh you know they wound up going eight and five to to wrap up and um couple of things to note about this one I do I do have Northwestern winning it's it's at home not actually at home because the ryanfield is being completely redone and so they are at a uh temporary Stadium uh for this game so that that kind of NE I mean it's still sort of home field but kind of not it's weird um but I do think that they're going to pull it out by like a like a maybe maybe a field goal to a touchdown uh victory yeah yeah I agree I agree all right John we got some here uh Sam Webb hit people with uh and I won't say exactly what he said because it is behind a pay wall and I respect that 247 but he did hit his uh his subscribers with the thought that could be Davis Warren starting this Sunday and maybe the starter position is not all the way figured out but uh if he had toh say which way it was leaning he thinks it's leaning a little bit more Warren right now I've been assuming it's orgy the entire off season just because of what he brings with his legs and how much shiron Moore is going to want to probably run this offense on the ground more than in the air however things are looking a little bit different there uh what are your thoughts John oh well um so I was the one back in January February I had to I had to open my big mouth and I had to say I thought Davis Warren was gonna be a depth guy I I didn't I just didn't see him breaking through to that degree um man I don't think I've been wrong or about a take uh Davis Warren will be the starting quarterback tomorrow yeah um from all accounts and I have that from multiple sources in the media and uh we even have one uh you know other source uh even deeper that is confirming that it's it's Davis Warren at this point and um Alex org's gonna play but but I'm GNA explain kind of what happened so Alex orgy was uh was set up to be the starting quarterback going back to the last year uh so even even in those final games they were drawing up packages for him to kind of get him acquainted with really big game situations because the the Assumption was going to be that he would be the new starting quarterback JJ would go to the NFL that was pretty much gonna happen uh JJ they pretended that JJ was really thinking about it but JJ was not really JJ knew he was gonna go first round and get first round draft money uh hope he hope he recovers fast by the way yeah really for that um but uh but so Alex sgy was was ahead in Spring he took the he was the first one out there in the spring game um and he was treated like the starter then it continued into fall Davis Warren surged Davis Warren has been the better passer Alex orgy of course better at running and overall athleticism versatility but the past discrepancy um this week it really took a turn for Davis Warren even more where where I'm hearing that he was hitting the high 80s in completion percentage and this is not against uh you know dummies this isn't against uh nobody this is against the Michigan defense that he's going high 80s the ones and I'm sure that there were there was a mix of you know rotation and some twos in there too but still even the twos are better than most a lot of teams ones so the bottom line is if he's going high 80s you can't keep him off the field um he will be your starting quarterback uh and then as far as Alex orgy he's going to play too and and believe me like he he will be utilized in packages not just to run but also to pass there will be rpos and and packages with him and I do not think it is completely completely solidified for good I I think Alex orgy and Davis they are going to continue to evaluate this and if things flip because we know that there are some quarterbacks that are just amazing in practice when it gets to real games against Real opponents sometimes the moment's too big so it's very very possible that Alex orgy could still start but as of game one snap one Davis Warren is the starting quarterback and I think that's only a good thing for Michigan I was even talking to some Buckeyes about it and they're like we were hoping it was going to be orgy because Davis Warren looked like a better passer uh even in the spring game and so um some Buckeyes were actually upset at the news that it was going to be Davis Warren so uh so that's always a good sign too but but I'm upset the other way because I I really thought that Alex orgy provided a versatility um that the defense would have to would have to always have a spy so the defense would always have to have a spy out plus they would have to factor in the the run the regular running backs plus they would have to they would have to factor in coulston Loveland Marlon Klein on tight ends the receiving game um at least a short medium pass receiving game and that versatility is tough to defend against and Davis Warren doesn't have the legs and we know that like he doesn't of of Alex orgy but like it's not even close so the fact that he was such a better passer that it was just impos and Alex or was throwing picks um just that again you know inconsistent on the pass game and so they they made the call um and and you you know we got to just trust uh Kirk Campbell and Chiron Moore's evaluation that Davis waren just flat out better right now and I was really wrong and I've got a clown nose coming and and Tuesday I will have the clown nose on and give my uh give my you know own up to the own up to the takes um but good for Davis man he has had he was a walk-on he battled and beat cancer um and he was a very highly touted recruit coming out of of high school but obviously just had a lot of life situations that he was battling and some inconsistency in games and he thought through it to his credit and he won the job uh according to everything I'm hearing yeah I was looking up some of his recruiting stuff earlier because I saw somebody say he was a fourar and I couldn't find very much did he get cancer while he was in high school and then that's why he walked on to Michigan or how did that are you aware with how that worked yeah so I don't I don't really I think it it was um yeah so it was a junior year of high school um that he was diagnosed and so um so so he was dealing with this even even back in high school he had to reclassify so he reclassified to the class of 21 and then he uh he became a preferred walk-on uh for the Wolverines so he's been in the program um since since 21 then he started having some more game some a little bit of action in 22 he was placed on scholarship after that um you know and he's he's battled and to his credit um he's battled and he's uh he's he's won the job so uh you know he's had to face a lot more adversity than than people even double his age so it's a it's a good story yeah well and I mean shows perseverance and all that stuff I mean even if you're looking at this and you're saying who's more talented I mean you have to believe in all respect to Alex orgy I'm not trying to say anything against me but you have to say the heart of this Davis Warren kid I mean it's just it's up there and uh he I mean he has to be a fantastic culture fit for this Michigan team he's been there since the 2021 season and that's when Michigan has had uh the bulk of their success lately and now he's you know coming in with uh with shiron Moore first year so we'll see how it goes I still think Alex orgy would fit that offense better but I don't know maybe Kurt Campell is going to run some things different I mean I I would just think that with a running offense you could do so much more read option you could do so so much more trying to confuse the opponent with a quarterback that's able to run I mean I all respect to Davis Mo in the world but he is nowhere near the athlete or the threat that Alex or orgy would be on the ground and you would think that this Michigan team especially with how much Shon Moore talks about smash smash smash and what he brought to the table as a offensive coordinator you'd think their identity would be on the ground enough that you would rely on that but I mean Davis Warren must have just been that much better yeah uh keep in mind that Alex org is gonna play and he's gonna play more than he did at the end of last year we saw him in for brief periods in big games you're going to see I I mean I'm not saying it's going to be every other but but he's a Red Zone guy is that what you would think Red Zone Red Zone guy um kind of like how they were using like a like tesm Hill at the Saints um you know as a in the in the quarterback role plus the tight end role um you could see Alex orgy playing some like other positions uh he he did line up at other positions uh last year at various points so um I think they're going to utilize they believe that Alex orgy is one of the 11 um or 12 best off players that they have so he's gonna he's gonna see time and he might see time at a a variety of positions I think they'll keep the really fun stuff for for you guys for uh for Ohio State probably see all kinds of of trickeration there um uh but uh you know if they if they're if they're willing to have a linebacker uh throw the ball then anything's possible right so so uh but but but yeah no they're both GNA play but Davis Warren is is gonna be the uh at least for game one he's the starting quarterback that's what I'm hearing well congrats to him man I mean it's a it's a fantastic story you just hope it ends well for him and you know you don't have some kind of situation where he loses a job or something like that because you know you love the story and you love to for him to be able to make that a part of his uh career and everything going on there so I some of these comments some of these comments man I just I gotta I got to respond to some of this Stu the FAU stuff oh not just that I mean there's a lot comments about our our topic here so um well let's start with let's start with Mr Brian uh the Buckeye Meyers here uh I love Brian be be easy on him I like Brian not trying to be insulting here but Michigan seems like a oneman offense it's Edwards or bust for them this year uh yeah you need to watch Michigan Wolverines live where we where we carefully explain every position group and why that's extremely inaccurate um Edwards has has worked on his game he has bulked up a lot this offseason and the reason is because he's going to be taking some of those reps that Blake horm was taking um and in in the short run game right so there is going to be Edwards utilization there it's not just going to be maulings in short short yard situations but um to say that it's a oneman offense I um it's like you're you're you're acting like it's like ruter is off ruter is a one one man offense with mangi that's a oneman offense um uh Michigan has coulston lovelin returning 6 foot five going to be the obvious receiving option they're even drawing him out at The X position apparently various various uh deep passing routes um so they're trying him out at the exposition you've got Tyler Morris coming back who is able to outrun Alabama at multiple points in the the game against Alabama um so you've got in addition addition to Edwards you got you got plenty of others that are going to be uh are going to be making plays in the game yeah it'll be interesting to see the way the offense runs this year I think Coulson leveland I think they're going to do a lot of interesting stuff with him I mean he's he's 65 and athletic as athletic as I'll get out uh there's a tight end behind him Max um Klein Klein James just put thank you James uh yeah K is second and then bredes is the like the the top fullback slash block the H kind of guy um yeah I mean Max Klein he I think he's going to do some interesting stuff this season I think that he has some more time under his belt he understands the offense a little bit more and they'll do things with him I'm interested to see what happens with samage uh samage Morgan and what he is able to do kind of was a little bit of a gadget piece last year I think he's going to need to be much more than that for Michigan if they want to be able to spread it out and rely on him on the outside and in the slot it's just the way things are operating so I if I am looking at it as kind of like what have people proven it does kind of seem like Donovan Edwards star player most proven guy uh and it's hard it's it's hard to figure out a way to have your tight end be like your star feature player to do that kind of stuff but I mean Shon Moore has done things that I never really thought would be all that interesting before he he made an offense that had seven offensive linemen out there do some interesting things with the way they're able to pull the offensive line and stuff so if anybody can do it we'll see if shiron moorean um but I I I'm a Believer in in these two uh Michigan tight ends that they're going to be very interesting yeah my bad I uh I didn't mention Klein but um you know Kirt Campbell said that Marlon Klein W actually was better than Colston lovelin in some and we actually had reported that uh a week soon a week before that broke but but that you know Kurt Campbell said U that he has he's actually better than than coulston levelin in some areas uh with respect to maybe some of the speed and and some of what he's able to do so uh so Klein is is great I didn't even mention my guy Fred Moore I was on the Fred Moore train before anybody and I said he was going to be the starter everyone else said no it's going to be a Marian Walker no no no no it's going to be Fred Moore taking that Exposition kind of kind of splitting some time with coulston Loveland and amarian walker uh but but Fred Moore won out because of his speed his speed is really good if you watched film you've watched the spring games you've watched when he's played um he's able to just outrun opponents and uh and and create that separation so um yeah there's just so much talent on the offense you just you miss people sometimes but uh but and somebody asked about the o line too I'm happy to touch on that you can't really fast I know Evan link is probably the right tackle starter and probably left tackle is the is the center UPS is the center position still going this is the breaking news uh so it was it was krippin and the last couple of days godich uh has uh I'm probably screwing that name up but gichi apparently is starting uh tomorrow he has he has won the he's one out um in in Camp and I said krippin was barely holding on but I still had him a starter as of Tuesday but it is looking like uh uh godich is taking it so you you've got your line pretty solidified now but uh but those are who you know Evan link winning the job as a sophomore is huge that just doesn't happen at Michigan he didn't he didn't play it all last year either I mean it's not like he played four games of red shirted I don't think he took a single snap last year right I don't think not at all yeah and and freshman and like underclassman like freshman sophomores rarely play um at Michigan at o line because it's such an elite unit it's such an elite position group for Michigan that it tends to be seniors graduates um TR graduate transfers it get a sophomore being able to beat um Gentry and Percy for that role and Percy's been waiting waiting waiting years and years and years and he might be the sixth the sixth lineman or might maybe in some of the six or seven linemen sets he'll be in there but uh but yeah Evan link I am super impressed with his ability to win out at right tackle very impressive for a sophomore to come in and uh do that I believe he red shirted last year too because he didn't play so red shirt freshman uh to be able to do that you're going to have at least two years of him which will be good for them um John I do think we need to comment on the fact that FAU is driving oh yeah they are getting oh no I apologize they were driving and then they punted and then now Michigan state has the ball looks like oh man oh no yeah yeah yeah no Michigan State just punted Michigan State just punted and FAU has the ball back but uh in western Michigan you FAU and Western Michigan they're in the red zone or they're about to score or they have scored one of the two my uh my phone is not as always up to date as what's going on in the actual television so uh some interesting games going on right now I do think that we uh we should move on to our final subject John and get that out of the way so that way we can go watch some of these interesting games that I did not anticipate to be as interesting as they are uh but God has blessed us with a nice night of football that we can enjoy some possible upsets one that I know you would be very happy if the that happens yes all right so I'm going to try to make this a little bit of a tradition if you watch the Big 10 huddle on Thursday nights it's Friday night because like I said we have the Minnesota we had the Minnesota North Carolina game last night so I figured we'd go live on Thursday or uh Friday night instead but the final part SEC Upset Picks of the episode I'd like to pick the SEC teams that we think are most likely to be upset put them on upset alert during that week some notable games for that Clemson at Georgia Notre Dame at Texas A&M USC LSU that's over in Vegas a bunch of other SEC teams play in some G5 and FCS teams stuff like that uh Miami is playing Florida but I believe Miami is favored in that one so Florida they are The Underdogs uh John I'll uh kick it to you first do you have an upset alert team in the SEC this week for teams they'll be on the lookout for well before I go to SEC there's one that I forgot to mention um earlier that's uh I think West vir is going to beat Penn State so that's I know that's not an SEC game but that's one that I missed and yeah I think uh I think West Virginia is going to beat Penn State so that's number one uh you know Take Me Home Country Roads uh as far as F uh SEC games what I'm what I'm kind of thinking here we already kind of touched on USC LSU and um I do think lcu is going to win by comfortable margin um I I'd say if there's if there's two that I like I guess all three of these make sense um but if we're being real I you know I think uh Clemson could have won the game in 2018 2019 I don't know if they have the pieces to win it in 2024 against Georgia with the returning quarterback Carson Beck uh that that ridiculous defense that they have it's going to be I think it's going I think 14 is about right that's seems to be like I don't think I would bet that one because that that feels about like what it's going to be to me is about 14 so uh so I I think I think George is gonna pull that out uh but I'll I'll say Notre Dame Texas A&M man uh Texas A&M obviously uh had had some issues with a guy named Jimbo Fisher uh who they paid $76 million to go away so they have a new they have a new head coach um Notre Dame hasn't really done anything um so that one really is a giant crap shoot it could go either way uh and I would say if there was one that I would that that I think I think Notre Dame could could pull it out because let's face it uh you know A&M's G they're going to need to rebuild A&M a little bit I think to really get it to where they uh want it to be touchdown Western Michigan Philip says game 77 West Michigan and Wisconsin oh my Luke fickle what are you doing to me um yeah we don't need to talk about that too much let's talk about the SEC teams that could possibly get upset I agree with you I think Texas A&M is the most likely team to be uh upset in this one John I don't think that there is a program in this country college football program in this country that has poured more into their program and gotten less out of it than Texas A&M Notre Dame could be up there I suppose but Texas A&M they have poured the oil money by the billions into that program and Jimbo Fisher just did nothing with it I like Mike Elco but Mike Elco is also one and four against ranked teams his only ranked win was against Clemson last year so I'm not feeling so great about him being able to do that I mean and Clemson was a disaster last year compared to what they've been so I don't feel good about Mike Elco in his first year I think he's a pretty good coach and I think he'll figure things out and Texas A&M will get better but very first game I think Marcus Freeman's been at Notre Dame I think that he probably should have beat Ohio State last year even as an Ohio State fan I could say they probably should have won that game last year so I think he's hungry I think he wants to get this monkey off his back and I think he knows if they beat Texas A&M they're probably going to the playoffs and so I think he knows what's at stake here and he's going to get it done we got lry City going going on over there at the FAU game here laundry City what the heck but um anyway yeah that still could go either way uh yeah Notre Dame and yeah I'm going Notre Dame Texas A&M is the re is the out of the three I'd say that would be the one that uh the non SEC team probably pull it out yep yeah and then I I think that uh I picked USC to win when we did our preview earlier I just think that Miller Moss is better than Garrett nesm we'll see um I trust Lincoln Riley quarterbacks more than I trust Brian Kelly quarterbacks Sumi but I think if it comes back to that um but they but they're like it's it's a it's a full team playing half a team because let's be very very honest here and I'm gonna have some USC people uh you know very angry with me and upset with me about this uh who are friends of mine but that I gotta just call it like it is which is that USC is half it's just like Iowa the other way they're half a team their defense can't T couldn't tackle last year they literally couldn't do basic wrapping up tackling I'm not talking about Advanced like whatever they just couldn't tackle anybody like they were giving them they were giving them big hugs and then uh just letting them go through that I mean that that was literally happening yeah um under Grinch uh now do I think it's going to be better yes but like we said um and you know this with nolles you know nolles at at Ohio State the first year he's installing the new system then you start to get the guys in place that are really the best fit for that system and then you start to really shut teams down and so maybe year two under under Danton lind's defense you're GNA really see an improvement this year I have USC going seven and five uh maybe eight and four they're just they're in for they're in for a bit of a tough time in a very physical conference it's it's a very tough schedule between LSU and Notre Dame also both in the uh in the out of conference they're they're scheduling didn't do him any favors my only counter and I'm not necessarily saying you're wrong John so I'm not arguing with you here saying like I'm right you're wrong my only counter to that would be that LSU I think they have a lot of the same problems USC had last year yeah yeah now theirs was less tackling and more so um nobody was around the other team's wide receivers it's like oh you ran by me shucks like and I don't know I don't know if the uh LSU quarterbacks are going to be much better than they were last year in my opinion and uh I mean Harold Perkins I don't know if there's been a more disappointing player in college football than the athletic specimen that he is the size that he has and what he's able to do at the linebacker position but just how much he is out of gaps how much he doesn't seem to quite understand the defense that he's in and then you bring in an entirely new defensive coordinator and so he has to learn another whole new defense now he was having a hard enough time with the last one so I don't know I you know I I lean USC and that's probably a little bit of my big 10 bias just thinking you know it's closer to them over in Vegas and that kind of stuff but I can see what you're saying as well because it is going to take some time for Dan Lyn to be able to get this defense installed and put together yeah and and let's face it Garrett nus Meer isn't as good as a heisman-winning quarterback but he's a bridge quarterback and they've determined that he's the best because you you and I both know that Bryce Underwood is going to be the starting quarterback once he gets it um I know that he'll be a true freshman he's going to be the starting quarterback when he gets in there they're paying him $7 million he's going to be the starting quarterback um he's got five million in cash and two million in incentives and and housing and all kinds of other good uh so so he's not going to be riding the bench um so nus Meer is a bridge and I think they've got a build around him I still think they're going to beat a team that let's again maybe they'll be able to at least tackle a little bit this year but but um yeah Grinch did a number on that defense and I actually thought Grinch was was okay at Oklahoma not great not terrible uh but uh but didn't really get the job done at USC and you know Danton Lynn will will need a year um is the last thing I'll say and then we'll and then we'll get out of here I know there's a lot going on with the MSU game I'm sure you want to catch the end of that I just want to get your thoughts on this really fast um did you see the interview that I brought this up to Zach and Kint as well did you see the interview that Alex Grinch did uh after a Wisconsin practice oh geez no what what did he say he was talking of the media and they were like what's a what's an area of the safeties in this defense that you feel like you can really help them and proove prove maybe something they didn't do as well last year that you'd like for them to to do better at he was like well you know I just felt like there was uh some poor tackling last year I feel like I'm going to be able to bring it in here and make a much better tackl and I was like no Alex don't don't Hunter Waller was a great tackler last year don't do this I was like this is a terrible idea you should not be teaching Hunter Waller how to tackle you should just say hunter you teach the rest of the safety sat it I'll go stand over here you know inputting the coverage schemes and stuff like that I'll take care of that but when it comes to teaching tackling you do it Hunter I'll go stand for here but no apparently he uh is teaching them how to tackle better cuz he wasn't impressed with their tackling last year oh my God that's that is uh geez I could think of a lot of analogies there uh but but but yeah that just doesn't seem smart um because if there's one thing that if I mean I had a lot of critiques about that defense but the one that was the most obvious is like I said I mean they're literally be hugging and letting players go they didn't know how to finish a tackle to save their life so they cared more about like how complex the scheme is and and and how uh smart um Alex Grinch could look and and they were more worried about that than the than the fundamentals of Defense which uh fundamentals here are pretty important in defense so uh got to got to practice those so all right um John this was uh this is a lot of fun I really appreciate you being here and uh joining us even though uh you have a a really important
