this bill if pass which again it is bipartisan so a very good chance that it will pass it will increase benefits for millions of Social Security beneficiaries so we are going to be covering that bill round of two different checks that are going to be sent out this week by the sols security administration are going to be going out the first round tomorrow on Wednesday August 28th are going to be going to beneficiaries of Social Security with birthdays falling between the 21st and 31st of Any Given month these are going to be going to retirees as well as is those receiving disability benefits so according to as Social Security payment checks on August 28th who gets one and for how much so according to the SSA distribution mechanism the beneficiaries who will receive an average payment of $1,900 since Wednesday will be will be born between the 11th and 20th of the month they actually mean the 21st and 31st this website is incorrect and the rest of the August payments are as followed so on Wednesday the 28th beneficiaries with birthdays falling between the 21st and 31st as I just mentioned and then FR and then finally later on this week on Friday on the 30th those payments are going to be going to beneficiaries of SSI those are really just going to be your September payment so if you receive SSI benefits you're not going to receive any payments throughout the month of September your payment which would usually fall on September 1st is not going to be falling on September 1st September 1st is on on a Sunday anytime the first of a month falls on a Saturday a Sunday or a holiday you just receive your payment a little bit earlier that's why you're going to be receiving a second payment second payment this month later on this week on August 30th okay so now moving into our main story of today's video there is a bill out there in Congress this bill has been out there over the past few years actually and unlike a lot of bills where it might just have only Republican support where most the the Democrats would be against it or only Democrats support where pretty much all Republicans would be against it this is a bill unlike many other bills out there that actually have support among Republicans and also support among Democrats both Republicans and Democrats believe this bill firmly is one that should pass this is extremely rare but for whatever reason even though it has had bipartisan support it has still not been voted on it has not been voted on over the past few years but finally it looks like finally next month in September they are finally going to be putting this bill on the floor for a vote in the house and if this bill passes it's going to increase benefits for millions of people currently receiving Social Security benefits this is going to be absolutely huge we're going to be going over who all this is going to cover and how much you can expect to receive extra if this is going to cover you so according to Newsweek Social Security benefits to increase for some Americans under this new bill so Congress is set to vote on a bill that would increase social security benefits for some Americans if it's passed next month US House of Representatives Abigail spanberger a Virginia Democrat and Garrett Graves a Louisiana Republican will be filing a petition to force a vote on the Social Security Fairness Act which would eliminate the windfall elimination provision and the government pitch an offset the W and go lower social security for millions of Americans while the bill currently has 325 co-sponsors it only needs 218 signatures to force a vote on the house floor so again this is pretty much going to eliminate the windfall elimination provision known as WP for short as well as the government pension offset also known as the GPO these were two iions set in place back in the 80s when whenever they had this massive Social Security reform and basically what it did is it made it so those people those Americans who receive a pension because they're also receiving a pension retirement benefit anyone who receives a pension but also worked enough during the workforce like in the private sector to you know pay into the Social Security trust fund had these soci security payroll tax it would make it so what you would normally receive via soci security benit once you reach the full retirement age you would actually receive a significantly less benefit just because you're also receiving a pension so if this bill passes what it's going to do is for people who receive a pension let's say like teachers uh uh firefighters police officers anyone who receives a pension is not going to have a reduced social security benefit they are not going to be penalized just because they also received a pension they're going to receive an increased soci security benefit from what they are receiving now this is very good news for people who are receiving a pension your Social Security and your overall retirement is going to be boosted up quite a bit now the article here goes on to say uh that for more than 40 years millions of Americans police officers teachers firefighters and other local and state public servants have been stripped of their social security benefits as an unjust penalty for devoting much of their careers to serving their communities and fellow Americans these Virginia louisianans and Americans across our country deserve their full retirement benefits just like every other American who has paid into Social Security this is what spanberger engraves said in a joint statement they also went on to say that for years we have worked together to build bipartisan support for this for this effort and urge house leadership to take real action to write this wrong as those efforts have stalled we are using every tool at our disposal to finally get this done spam spanberger and Grave said that the social security Fairness Act could remove unjust penalties on public servant workers now again keep in mind for any Bill to pass the house it would only need 218 representatives in the house to pass the bill right now we have 3155 members in the house co-signing under this bill basically saying that if this bill is put on the floor they are absolutely going to vote on it which means this bill is going to pass without a doubt it just comes down to what whether or not they actually put this bill on the floor for a vote and it looks like next month that is absolutely going to happen now the article also goes on to say that the WEP in particular lowers the amount of earned Social Security benefits if the recipient also receives a public pension by a job uncovered by Social Security teachers who work in public schools but also have part-time jobs see their benefits lowered under this rule the GPO meanwhile CC spous benefits for those who work as government employees reduced if the job is also uncovered by Social Security that means their benefits can be reduced by 2/3 for surviving spouses who also collect a government pension and once again you can see up there on the screen the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023 you can see all the co-sponsors 325 in total this is absolutely huge and again next month it looks like this bill is finally going to be put on the floor for a vote now if it passes the uh if it passes the house to vote at that point in time it is going to go on to the Senate and it's going to be up to whether or not the Senate majority leader in Chuck Schumer also wants to put this bill on the floor vote I'd have to imagine that they would have at least the 60 votes that they would need and at that point in time it would finally go to Joe Biden's desk this would be absolutely huge for those people who also receive a pension as well as their spouses to receive an increased benefit now leave your thoughts in comments below are you in favor of this bill are you against it maybe some people would be saying maybe it's unfair that you're receiving a pension and then you're also receiving an increased social security benefit maybe you don't deserve an extra amount of Social Security if you're also receiving a pension I've heard that argument against it but I would love to hear your thoughts and comments below and of course if they are able to pass this bill in a bipartisan fashion hopefully you would have to think this would also get the ball rolling in other types of soci security reform to ensure that we don't have that 17 to 27% cut in benefits if nothing is done by the years of 2033 whatever they have to do whether that's a combination of raising the for retirement age raising the taxes lowering benefits for those who earn the most money for Social Security maybe combine all those ideas together you have to hope that this idea will get the ball rolling on a bipartisan effort to reform Social Security to avoid those cuts within the next years but of course we will have to wait and see what happens but that's all we
