Alabama vs. Western Kentucky CFB Week 1 Preview: Injury News, Players To Watch & Betting Odds

[Music] welcome into the Alabama football report it is finally game week we are just a few days away from Alabama kicking off for the first game of the season against Western Kentucky it is going to be a night game for Kaylin abor's first game as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide 31 and a half point spread on this one a 59 and a half point total on this one that's going to be a little bit tough to get I think you know these smaller schools little bit harder to get to that point spread and over under um but we'll see what happens it's going to be a fun one and we will be previewing the uh the game on today's video and we also going to be live for this first game of the season for our watch party against Western Kentucky it's going to be really fun if you guys haven't uh joined guys are subscribed right here to the Alabama football report first things first I want to just go into some injury updates that kayin deor provided today and he was specifically asked about Jaden Roberts Jam Miller and Jeremiah Alexander and he did not go into anybody else because why would he uh uh Jaden Roberts expected to uh practice this week expected to be in the game after he had that minor hand injury had some surgery on that but should be good to go Jam Miller also going to be expected to practice as well as participate in the game then Jeremiah Alexander he said he was not expected to practice um you know we'll see what happens with him he nobody mentioned zaban Brown the corner freshman cornerback has had his hand in that uh you know Club cast for the past couple of weeks so if we hear anything on him we will also give you an update on that as well the first thing I want to kind of go into is the Western Kentucky offense because I don't think their defense is really at the end of the day going to do you know a whole hell of a lot you know against Alabama TJ Finley a guy that we have seen before played at LSU and Auburn wasn't very good there let's just be honest and then transfers to Texas state has a pretty decent year for Texas State over 3,400 passing yards 67% completion percentage 24 touchdowns eight interceptions so he definitely got better just overall as a passer and taking care of the ball but the two starts that he's had against Alabama 20120 LSU 2021 alurn now he was on the team um in 20 22 for Auburn but he did not play against Alabama let's just be honest those two games not very good for TJ Finley but I will say he has gotten better you know as a passer and just overall as a player so definitely something to monitor whether he can you know get anything in this g go get anything going in this game but we're just going to have to see now one big wide receiving Target for uh TJ Finley is going to be kesan Johnson at that wide receiver position he was at Alabama State transfers from Alabama State past couple of years uh past three years he was there and you know I mean he's okay put up, 1451 yards total in his career there 11 touchdowns 13.8 average so you know kesan Johnson's going to be a pretty decent receiver I think for them this year but we'll see what he can do against Alabama um at the end of the day another wide receiver that I do want to make note of 62 190 lb Dalvin Smith also at that wide receiver position think he's going to be probably a big Target for uh TJ Finley like I said you know these guys aren't putting up wild numbers or anything like that it is Western Kentucky um but you know those I think are going to be your two main wide receivers to look at in this game for Western Kentucky so touch on real quick for Western Kentucky Kentucky is Elijah young he is their running back and he has also had some time in the SEC first three years of his career starting out at Missour didn't really get a whole lot of playing time there 2021 did get 50 carries didn't really do a lot with it transfers to Western Kentucky last year got double the amount of carries double the amount of yards but let's be honest it still wasn't really that good for him so I think you know I'm always that person that's like you know you know trust the process guys can get better but you know let's just be honest it is Western Kentucky and Alabama at the end of the day is just got better players than them I also want to touch on five players to watch for Alabama in this game really especially you know starting off the season I think this is going to be kind of you know all these guys are going to be players to watch for the first couple of games anyways wil conf Forbe at that right tackle position in particular going up against Elijah pritet I think wi con forby is going to be the guy to go out there and start in this game now I could be wrong but I think you know everything it's just my gut feeling that he got more reps last year at the right tackle position than Elijah pritet did I think I think that probably helps him a lot gives him a little bit more of advantage and Elijah pritchet you know he's had his moments you know especially during this fall Camp I thought he looked really good at the left tackle position during the Spring Game you know just give him a little bit of Praise there because I'll be honest I RI this guy a lot and you know is it warranted probably but you know I mean like I said I really think he's a guy that's gotten a lot better I think he's going to you know really put up a solid competition against wilin for me really what Elijah pritchet needs to do and we've heard the coaching staff say this is the fact that he needs to be more consistent along the offensive line he's had flashes last year really didn't have any flashes but so far in the spring and in Fall Camp he has he has had some solid flashes at that right tackle position so we'll see what happens in this uh you know right tackle battle it's going to be a fun one at the end of the day I just hope the best man wins so predict the score for me in the comments section of today's video Alabama versus Western Kentucky it's going to be hard I think for Alabama to you know get to that 31 A2 point spread it's a those big spreads it's always kind of hard to do but let me know in the an idiot the other day when we did our cornerback predictions I had Deshawn Jones on on there I had um um mincy on there I had Jaylen and Bak on there but the one guy that I forgot to put on there was zavan brown Bonk for me type L's for me in the comment section because I think he zaven Brown is the guy that's going to be backing up DeShawn Jones in this game and I say that because I do think he is going to be the backup I think Deshawn Jones is going to be the first starter out there alongside dman Jackson and look Deshawn Jones last two years at forest was okay I'd like to see him progress and get a little bit better get those yards down get the touchdowns down I like the fact that he had three interceptions last year you know a guy that can also you know come come downhill and uh make some nice tackles on a ball carrier I really like that from those DBS anybody that can come downhill and really you know show me that they want to hit somebody that's always exciting at that DB position but look there's a lot of guys in this defensive back room that can play zaban Brown Z miny Jalil Hurley uh Jaylen and bakay all really really solid talented guys that I think Alabama is A&M and he was okay at Texas A&M at times I think though that you know Texas A&M the last couple of years just hasn't been able to get the most out of guys and I think LT Overton is a guy that they were definitely not able to get the most out of you know coming in from high school he's a former five-star recruit in that 2022 class number 14 player overall LT Overton I think is going to wreak havoc on the defensive line for Alabama this year he's going up kind of a little bit in a uh position battle at that Bandit position because right now Jan leam is the guy I think that is going to be sted at that Bandit position but I think it's you know going to be kind of a situational thing whether it's going to be you know a run fit or a pass fit you know we'll see um what opportunities LT Overton gets at that Bandit position but I do think he's going to be a guy that's going to be able to contribute for Alabama this year and I'm excited to see you know they've been talking about the pass rush that he has been able to provide on those passing Downs I really think those are the Downs you're going to see LT Overton really at that Bandit position so let me know in the comments players that I guess I want to talk about here are those freshman wide receivers they have been so solid so far both in the spring and some of those guys that came in during the summertime into this ball Camp look there's a lot of freshman uh talent that Alabama has in that wide receiver room right now and I think the main guys that we've been hearing about is Ryan Williams and Caleb Odum but I do think you're also probably going to see a lot from Rico Scott this year I think Bubba Hampton and Amari Jefferson can definitely be that come in and are able to you know get some playing time probably later in games I think Ryan Williams Caleb odm those are going to be two guys that we see in meaningful playing time for Alabama this year alongside the normal guys Jeremy Bernard the transfer from Washington Kendrick law you know he's going to be a guy that Alabama uses they they're going to line him up in a bunch of different positions sometimes he's going to be in the slot sometimes he'll be outside sometimes he'll be lined up in the backfield with Jaylen m like he's a running back Kobe princess another guy that I really really like a lot we've seen his progression the past couple of years I think he's going to uh you know really be solid for Alabama this year as well and the last guy on this list players to watch for the Crimson Tide is going to be Jaylen milro how is he going to be able to you know pick up this kayin deor offense this year you know they've talked about the fact that he's more comfortable he's more confident and I love the fact that you hear that from your head coach that he just looks more comfortable and confident and he's making the right reads he's doing all the right things I think he's definitely going to take a leap in this new offense this year you know they've trimmed out a lot of the fat from you know some of the plays that they did have in their playbook but Jaylen milro said he didn't necessarily like or you know felt comfortable with those plays so I think just being able to communicate with your offensive coordinator I don't think Jaylen milro has had an offensive coordinator so far that really kind of let him decide hey these are the plays that I feel most comfortable with these are the plays that I don't let's call the plays that you know we know that we can make and that we can do right Jaylen milro I can't wait to see him you know go through his progressions and get the ball to his Playmakers now he is a playmaker in his own right I hope if his first or second read isn't there take off I don't want to see you you know dancing around trying to be a pocket passer cuz at the end of the day Jaylen milro is not a pocket passer he's a guy that can throw the ball deep I think you know he gets to his first or second reads if they're not there dude go make an electric play with your legs Jaylen milro should be a guy that goes to New York this year in that Heisman you know uh discussion he should be a finalist for the Heisman this year especially with kayin DOR [Music] m [Music]
