and I hold it longer let go so I can't be free yeah yeah yeah wow I just saw that AJ's lock we'll get to later we might need a couple we might need like 20 minutes to get to it it is steep all right we'll make sure we have a few extra minutes in whatever block we call AJ had some extra time on his hands he had some extra time when no I I do my bets in about 30 seconds so let's not like think that I dig in and look at Stats I legitimately just go through the B MGM app and I'm like oh this looks good let's poop yep I like that one and if I find two three four things I like then we go with it you're a fi guy yeah there's no there's no research being done yeah like Verlander said we need more feel in the game that's that's AJ you want hardcore numbers Mr True Media Eric Katz and I'm kind of in between I look for Revenge game stuff like that so get when you're up the most out of the whole crew I must be feeling it right you are all right so I want to do something for the podcast crowd the people who listen to our show later on on Apple Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts so we appreciate some extra reviews that have been dropped lately so if you send us a review and it's nice or somewhat nice or at least the stars are nice then we'll read it so I'll just read a couple before we dive in huar listen every day knowledgeable and funny I hate it because it has taken so much of my time keep up the great work I'm a big Dodgers fan would love to see Michael copec on the show and see how he Compares being with the Dodgers versus the white side thanks and yes I have mentioned if you send us a guest request we will do our very best within those reviews so again it's very easy to do it's free content if you're on Spotify hit those Stars same with apple I'll give you two more frk whatever that means the best baseball show out there guys have great chemistry and give terrific analysis now here's a more fun one t t nice on the Stars so I'll I'll oh well actually four stars instead of five I'm going to read this but I'm not going to condone this we need five stars on all reviews okay T said I would have selected five stars but every time I listen the hosts dump on Toronto not the Blue Jays deservedly so in 24 and 23 but the city at least Yar bro corrected the snark I expected more from Kats there is some conspiracy theory out there that former ton Toronto official doesn't like the city toron I do too every time I've been to Toronto I love Toronto what am I missing here what I don't I don't understand where he came from unless it was the comments that I asked Davis Schneider about like how media Personnel that never follow baseball come into the clubhouse or maybe he thought because it was really tough to find an apartment for your family in Toronto maybe he thought that was that was the issue so come on J fans if you need if you need to express your anger I get it I get it dude let's not forget CR and I are on like Toronto radio like they asked for us like one of us like every single week Ian onto R I was on twice last week yeah I've been on Toronto radio more than some of their radio hosts I feel like at times and they don't even pay me wait so now we're up to two things that Katz has said that has really bothered people enough to write in okay one was yeah back in the day we were talking to David Schneider and Katz was addressing how there's some media people which is true that end up in clubhouses that need to be rechecked for a lot of things IQ the whole deal then number two here was from last week we're talking to yarro and he's saying how yeah it's difficult to move to another country and you got to figure out the apartment and most places are not like oh sure just have a few month lease here and I think he replied by saying that someone else had left so he took the yeah he took their apartment whoever they got tra it away yeah that wasn't Katz crapping on the city of tto wrong Katz was crapping on him what wrong I was even going to give yor a nice a nice park there's a Turf park that's like super like situated in between the buildings and the stadium awesome Park if because he's got young kids I had my young kids there that was that was great but not anymore Toronto I'm coming in hot now wow and T hopefully you still listen to the show and if not I hope it's one of my friends I hope it's one of my friends who's just who's just ripping on me that watches the show absolute trolls all right well then let's get to another city that you hate when we charge the mound here he's charging the M apparently anyone you've played for you just absolutely despise their city so let's get to the almost first place Royals double header sweeping Cleveland we got to start with KC they're one game back they're one game back Minnesota's too them they can time him tonight yes they and they hammered him last night uh Bobby Wht looks like Bobby Wht Jr Salvador PR never ages the rest of their lineup is banging and their Bullpen is as good as advertised I mean their starting pitchers have been okay but they Bullpen ever since they got uh ur ur Luc Lucas Ur IG from Oakland has just been on another level so I mean kudos to the Royals some of you guys picked them to win the division some of us picked the twins nobody picked the white socks um but how many people picked the Royals did anyone pick the someone did on on this show I thought it was Katz maybe K you picked him didn't you no I thought somebody did but anyways but kudos to them man they're one game back and remember not long ago Cleveland we thought was like oh they're safe they have an insurmountable lead but how about this everyone bangs on the AL Central H yep they might have teams get in they not might they better at this point they all have five game over five game leads on the Red Sox the next closest team so AL Central ain't so bad is it fellas except for the three teams that are about to go in well not except the Guardians two of them are one and 12- one against the white socks the the tigers are nine- one against the white sock and what is wrong with the Guardians they're five and five that's the difference that really is the difference that's crazy standings I mean the tigers are not a bad they're not good but they're not bad they've teams over 500 yeah in that Division and there's one that's not or 500 are better for the people that it shows you can get on the you know you can you can beat up on the white socks a little bit but this isn't these are teams that I think are legitimate teams that are playing really well and I think besides the twins they made moves but to me the thing about the way the Royals beat the Guardians la la well not last night the two games yesterday afternoon they beat him the way that the Guardians had been beating other teams Guardians were up like the Royals gave them they made almost made three errors in one inning when they picked off Naylor and the ball got thrown away and then Naylor got thrown out that would have been the third error of the inning and the Royals didn't give they didn't give up they didn't give into the game like ah it's a double head or whatever we got one they kept coming back and that's what the Guardians that's that was a recipe for their their winning early in the season or even recently was they were always coming back they're always they were never out of the game and boy it would be it'd be awesome to see them tie it up tie tie for the division lead tonight they can do it with Michael Lorenzen who has been sick been so good for the Royals and by the way K I disagree you said the twins did were the only team that didn't really do anything Guardians didn't really do anything I mean they made a couple trades but two they they got Al but I mean they're they were didn't go out and really like said like hey this your shot go out and make an impact Lane Thomas I guess was their impact guy he hasn't done anything no since he's got to the Guardians which listen it happens you move teams you move cities you move this you move that in the Middle season sometimes guys it doesn't work out but I don't think anybody looked at Cleveland's trade deadline and said yep they did it they did it this team did What It Takes they think they're going to win a World Series and they certainly had the prospects to trade you know they've got a pretty nice farm system they've got plenty to trade let's not forget again like I said not long ago Cleveland had the best record like by a good amount and now all of a sudden they are Stephen vote we love you about to find out what kind of manager you are because this is where you find out it ain't when everything's going good and everyone's loving you and living the life and I think vote will be fine but this is where you find out this is when you have to look your guys in the eye and say it's getting it's getting a little tight back there boys let's go and can he push the right buttons make the Right Moves to get the Guardians to finish this division off it's going to be fun though have you guys seen the pitching appearances leaders in baseball because it's Guardians a lot of Guardians say it's all Guardians Bullpen it's a lot of Guardians yeah if you look at their Bullpen it is I'm trying to get to it really quickly and then I know we got a break because we're gonna talk to the gooka here we go so it's Hunter gtis is four Kade Smith is five class is tied for seven Scott Barlo is 11 Tim Heron is 11 also man they've got like what I just say four or five guys in the top what did I say though about teams that use their Bullpen like what happens to them you get bit this time they get bit by this time of the year because they guys get tired man listen especially these are young guys that haven't had the I mean CL is the one guy in that list that's been around but the rest of these guys have never done this before so this is a because in the minor leagues listen you say what you want but they protect these guys no back to backs and you you know six game series you're in the first the third and the fifth game right and then you get two days off before you do it again again so there's all these things that until you get to the big leagues this is why pitching to me is so interesting the way it's developed now with the way the minor leagues are set up guys don't throw back toback till they get to the big leagues they've never thrown back-to-back days sometime class threw four in a row yeah say four games in a row I mean he is the veteran of this group but the rest of these guys have never back to back three in a row all these what are they in the mid-50s for appearances probably at least and when you're a rookie or a second year guy and you haven't done that and then being asked to do a lot yeah it hits you Hunter was a starter yeah he has not done this it's a good call and and lastly for the Royals low strikeout team I think the low is still in baseball great trade deadline salvi's having a year I mean he had a day yesterday two homers in that second game Grand Slam three for three game one Bobby made the difference in game one with the homer so all right we'll see what happens that AL Central getting very interesting maybe part of my crazy lock today too oh okay so we'll get to all that but we'll step aside for a quick SE stay here on YouTube and for The Valleys TV crowd we will come right back with Kyle higashioka from the San Diego Padres h a [Music] [Music] year sponsor time fuel up with factors no prep No Mess meals and I starting tonight for the San Diego Padres I have that hat you do I have that hat that he has on the earth the earth hat from San Diego it's a earth hat up yep yeah I uh I've been in the store a few times yeah I bet you've been to the bar next door the Irish Pub next door too haven't you no I not I heard the I heard the seals hang out there but I actually don't drink so oh okay well you can go they have great uh you know fishing ship there go right oh straight your straight your straight edge straight edge it's higy higgy were you just getting called up were you just getting called up to the big Ley is that who you were on the phone with there or were you going next level yeah somebody called me really quick I had to tell them I was getting on a show you're making your media was it Mike schil no okay because tell Mike schil in that sense we know he's big time he's back in St Louis for the first time you know since he got let go that he's been promising me he was going to come on this show and every time he's like oh I have this or I have that but the fans are clamoring to hear from schil so when you go into the clubhouse today I'm gonna need you to say Hey listen I went on foul territory today and they are just waiting for you to come on all right all right what's he gonna say what's his response gonna be yeah what's he like I don't know I mean I guess if he wants to go on he'll go on but I mean is he going to be like is he going to be like ah screw AJ or is he going to be like okay yeah thanks thanks for saying like what kind of Communicator is he he's a good communicator he's he's been really good so um yeah I've been really happy with with that especially this year that's good that's good because I mean I even wished him a happy birthday and he's like thanks brother so I mean like at some point you know like this this this nice guy image might have to go away if he just keeps you know oh next next week next week it's always it's always oh we have first game of a series or I have to get my big Ovation back in Bush Stadium even though there's like 500 people at the game that is true we go we got to dig into that a little bit last night because even orillo and mud said last night on the game like there was nobody at the game in Bush Stadium in August when they're I guess somewhat in a pennant race but was that different for you and how many have you ever you've been to Bush I'm assuming it's usually packed at this time of year there was nobody there I thought I thought thought it was a little bizarre actually um I mean I've only really seen it where it's packed so I was like you know expecting a big crowd and um you know all that stuff but for whatever reason there was not a lot of people there is it because you were you were in the lineup or because you weren't in the lineup that the fans were going to not come out yeah they didn't come out because I was in the lineup is that what it was they were they were disappointed they want to see capano real quick one one last thing on shilt does that help as a bench player you're you're priming yourself for people who don't know higgy is got 15 homers already five more than his career high in a season you're going to be a free agent normally be talking about extra home runs steroids but that's not you you have really slight hips but as a bench guy as a guy that's coming off the bench playing you know you you still have under 200 at bats this year is it bet is it how much does it help to have a manager that communicates like shil yeah I mean proba I mean probably since for for a couple months i' I've been playing a lot more but um whatever no matter what role you're in um it's just you know it it is really helpful to have a very communicative manager um you know that's kind of one of the things where it's like good or bad doesn't matter um it's better to know so um you know we're all we're all men here all right higgy I I got out do you worry about overexposure because now I mean you're starting to get like career highs and everything at bats I mean plate appearances like you're getting up there now you're over 200 do you worry about overexposure because I I played with some guys you know caty included they're like you don't want to give me too many of bats because they can get Overexposed and then I don't know what's going to I don't know I think I think I might be all right with that just because uh I feel like my swing changes every year so it's like you know different scy report every year it does it does that's actually I'll I'll hit it right now how many times has your swing changed this year being the fact that you're in a new organization I mean every time I talk to you you're like swing doesn't feel good but I've I've I'm I'm getting it in I'm getting it in a place I think it's going to get close you're always changing your swing so how many times has it changed this year um probably like once just change once oh well that's that's why you're having success you're always before you're like I'm I'm searching I'm really searching I can't I can't find it and what and what precipitates that what's the reason like do you look at the analytical stuff and you're like okay I'm not hitting this pitch well I have to try to cover that or I'm chasing too much or I'm not chasing enough no I think um you know when when you can't get on the fast ball when you when you feel like you have to cheat to the fastball that's that's the biggest thing that it's like okay now I'm now I'm not in a good spot um so as long as you know you can get to the fast ball without cheating then I think uh that allows you to have a lot better at bats and if I'm in that spot then I'm I'm not gonna have good at bats so you've played since you know 1999 and we had to discussion or yesterday about how the fast balls change about how guys are throwing harder do you feel like they're actually throwing harder because AJ was arguing that the radar guns are different they're picking them up sooner out of the hand now do you feel like guys are throwing harder compared to when you were still toiling in the minor leagues getting a few call-ups here and there I mean yeah um you know just just on average I mean you know but really truly if you didn't if you couldn't see the numbers are you like whoa yeah that's harder than before because AJ's argument was and maybe AJ can jump in here AJ's argument was that they're they were throwing just as hard before but now the velocities are are I don't know radar differently [Music] um I thought the stalker gun you know the one they used as far back as like when I was getting drafted I'm pretty sure that one picked up the ball like closer to the hand than the jugs gun and then it was like now trackman obviously picks it up right out of the hand but it was like the the stalker one was pretty accurate I think so I don't I think just more guys throw hard versus like when you know I I think you know guys in the past still threw just as hard as they do now with the exception of a few guys throwing like 105 but um you know more guys throw hard so it's like you you just never see that guy that's you know coming out of the pen throwing 90 I mean it's like that guy doesn't exist anymore no I agree listen the guys do throw harder I don't want people to misconstrue what I said I just think it's measured better we have better training and stuff like that but I think the hits also better training and better ability to get on velocity so I don't want people to think I'm saying guys's definitely throw harder now let me ask you this though we used to have a running joke when I played I'm sure you remember Charles Johnson the old catcher won some Gold Gloves did some stuff he used to S swing in the same spot every time and if you hit that spot Charles Johnson would hit a home run so have you seen your home run chart on this for this year uh I haven't looked at it recently okay we're going to I'm going to show you your home run chart basically just don't throw it right down the middle you throw it a little bit high or a little bit low everything is fine okay but if you throw it in that middle section there could be some fireworks let off at Petco I'm just giving you a scouting report on yourself hey at least at least it's pretty evenly distributed in and out I mean true that is you know and and there's there's been years where it's like only in that's the difference yeah there you go see that's why you got up to 15 this year you're not only hitting the one in you're actually getting some away too so that's sweet that's so just just to know for yourself if you see it down the middle swing okay anything else just let it go advice that's good that's good all right now I'm gonna ask you about the Padres first of all I want to start with this yesterday we had Rowdy to Leon he plays for the Pirates they have a decent in their pitching staff had done okay this year you guys have a rookie on your team that's doing some amazing things he said SK should win rookie of the year there's an argument that can be made for Jackson Merill on your team obviously Jackson Merill is your vote tell me why yeah I mean the guy goes out there and he plays great defense he hits he runs I mean he's playing every day it's like he's never going to be on an Innings limit you know they're never going to team's never going to try to protect him I mean this guy's out there grinding every single day so um and the amount of like game tying and game-winning home runs and just pivotal moments that this guy's produced over the year I mean you could argue that he's the best player on the team um and it's like to me it's that's just it's it's incredibly valuable I know we're not talking about most Val player but um it's rookie of the year but still it's just just having played with him every day it's it's a it's a no-brainer for me but I'm I'm sure there's there's plenty of arguments for either player is this the best rookie of the year you've ever played with uh that's that's a really tough one real tough one okay I mean look judge judge's rookie season that was absolutely phenomenal uh I would I would have to go back and look at the numbers because I also didn't get to play with judge the whole year I only played month that took your job they went and got me was was that the same year that was the same year they went and got me and you were and you were and you were squalling down in the minor leagues what year was this hold on what year was this 17 oh I went down to instr to stay ready and I was uh I was playing concerts for the guys yep you down at Stay Ready Camp do you know this by the way I was going to tell you this story but now it's a good time to tell you so I don't know what year it was Yankees were playing in Anaheim and boony and I've known boony forever and I've known Phil Nevin forever a lot of your coaches for a long time and I'd been I'd been out for a year or two so it had to be maybe 18 19 and they were like talk we're talking in the office and I go listen guys I go I can I I can be your backup catcher right now and they're like no we got higgy and I'm like dude come on like seriously like no no like higashioka or me and they're like and I listen I'm telling you this honest to God Aaron Bo and Phil Nevin go no listen that guy's gonna be really good we believe in him and he's gonna be really good he's gonna play in this league for a long time and I was like yeah but guys like come on I can make a comeback I can catch once a week and they're like trust us no no and then so I've never really ever told anybody that story but since we have you on and since Kats once took your job I tried to take your job but boy and nean stood up for you and let you stay yeah I mean look those those guys they always um you know they they always really believed in me and and they gave me every single opportunity to to try and proove myself so I mean I I love playing for them um you know and and I I owe a lot to them too and to that organization so um it's it's pretty cool to hear how long how long did it take you till you stopped looking at Yankee games because you were with the organization for 18 years Am I Wrong 16 16 16 years okay yeah 16 sorry how long did it take for you to not check their score uh I mean I still keep up with the guys so like I'm constantly checking the scores um but I'm always I'm always checking you know to see how people are doing that you know I'm friendly with anyways but uh yeah I mean I I keep up enough with the guys to where I'm pretty much checking the score all the time and and then hoping that they beat all the national league teams hey I I got one more I want to Circle back to Jackson myl it was one of the better quotes that I saw for the year do you guys remember who it was who said that quote Oh it was Michael King Michael King Michael King who you've known for a while too Michael spoke about how Jackson myl doesn't have like kids or really anything to worry about of high significance off the field and so he can just come to the park and be a kid and just play and have a great time I think some of that has to do with being you early in the league too right the appreciation Factor but do you want to kind of fill in any blanks for me there in terms of how he acts and does that bring something to a ball Club in a different way because a veteran might be like yeah I've been there done that for a long time um I mean I think any anytime you have um rookies or or guys who are new to the league um that just adds another element to the the clubhouse Dynamic where it's like you know they bring that extra bit of like energy and excitement and not to say that the veteran guys aren't excited um but it it's a different it's a little different um I don't know it's a different feeling when you're a rookie and you're just coming into the league for the first time and I think people also feed off that so um you know we we've been really you know loving having him as one of our centerpieces this year do you guys let him be him do you guys do you guys let him like is there like a concerted effort to make sure you don't treat rookies like rookies yeah I mean we we let him be himself I always double up with him on the bus you would just so he's just so he's doubled up but uh you're such a troll but you have you have thin hips so it doesn't matter you don't like you you don't you fit in seats together so it's not really yeah I mean it's not it wouldn't be like doubling up with you but uh it's you know it's it's fine I mean we're both we're both like pretty normalized people so you know it it's fine I just you know for the rookie year you got to make sure the guy's doubled up hey what was the reaction from the ball Club when trades were made by AJ prer I'm sure the team wasn't surprised because he likes to wheel and deal but you know I think players are just like fans in a way that they're looking for something at the deadline to show a sign that you know the group above believes in them and I mean the Padre's did some nice work I mean you can probably speak to some of the individuals that you're catching at the back end of the bullpen these days sure it's nice although a little bit difficult because of the way the ball moves yeah I mean there's there's no doubt that you know going out and signing big players at the deadline makes a huge impact in terms of like the team and um on the field performance but also it's like as a as a player you know you go and see the the front office sign of a guy who's really going to help the team and and you kind of get like a little boost of um like like okay we're they believe in us we're going for it and um I I honestly I think it helps in both ways mentally and on the field so um you know I don't know if there's data to back that up but I I just think that it's it's it's a great feeling knowing that the front office believes in the team how about the fans that come out we talked about St Louis not having as many fans it's hot out there right now how about the fans in San Diego have you ever seen anything like it can you compare another Stadium as far as like somehow they break records or sellouts and everything but just is an electric environment on TV it looks like I haven't been there live yet yeah it's been amazing I mean uh like I think I was just the other day I was like oh Tuesday night against the Minnesota Twins like you know most I think you know most most stadiums wouldn't be sold out and uh in San Diego it's it's like every single night to sell out day or night no matter who we're playing um so that's that's just a testament to the fans they they they love the team there and and you can really feel it as a player can you describe the difference between playing in San Diego and New York in any way possible from the media to the atmosphere to the fans the whole deal like I obviously there are players that cannot handle New York you were not one of them but we know there are some players that sign with the Mets or the Yanks in previous years this goes back for decades and all of a sudden they fall off a cliff and you're like wait is this player done and then they go somewhere else and they're fine again so what's it like to go from New York to San Diego and is there any case that could be made that if someone is I don't know like distracted by San Diego it could be a different Factor too it's not the media pressure but I mean you could certainly get lost in in the beach and the city and the NTI there too no um well first of all I mean both both teams have fantastic set of fan bases I mean like it's like you know if you if you play well you know they're they're going to they're going to love on you so um but I mean San Diego as a player it's it's very much more laidback environment in terms of of like you know the the media pressure um which I guess for some people can be a good or bad thing um you know I remember the Matt Kemp interview where he he didn't like the fact that there was not as much media coverage so um you know depending on who you are it could be good or bad but I I think I I don't think there's like a ton to distract you from San Diego um San Diego kind of reminds me of like you know more of a a a small city where it's like you uh it kind of reminds me more of where I grew up in in Huntington Beach where it's like um you know it's just people people know each other people you know they they really support the team and and um it's kind of more of a small town feel even though it is a city yeah back home you're back home you're back on the west coast just like just like Tupac right yeah yeah exactly like that all right I got three quick hitter questions for you then we'll let you we'll let you go all right you ready for them yep okay who smells the best in the clubhouse [Music] um h [Music] maybe go be it's got to be tatis Machado or profar it's got to be tatis Machado or profar those three lockers are right next to each other too I mean they they they they gota there's got to be I I'd say proba Manny okay now these are quick hitters that was a slow hitter okay this is we're looking for the heater we're looking for heater in here right what is your walkup song this year uh Lay it Down by rat okay who has the best walk up song on the team I mean if it's up to me it's it's well I I would say Tanner Scott Tanner Scott he's got Mother by Danzig he had a little bit of he had a little bit of darkness when we when we talk to him at the All-Star game like he I I feel like he's I feel like he's a gamer all right weirdest Superstition that you have seen ever or just with San Diego ever um I mean judge likes to put his left sock on first every day but then I I do that too now so you adopted his super yeah anything judge does I I try to do including hit homers uh TR trying I mean he's having obviously a dumb year but he doesn't give us much this interesting mean he puts his because I superstitious I guess but I once read a cartoon this true story I once read a cartoon that if you put your left foot on your left shoe on first it was good luck if you put your right shoe on first it was bad luck so I always put my left shoe on you were one of those oh I was big time but that's this is about higgy and judge so wait higgy and judge so you always put your left sock it's only your sock though do you put on first yeah I think he mentioned this in like a like an interview somewhere else but yeah left sock first I think this is breaking news what happens what what happens if you put the right sock on first I don't know I've never done it smart see that's smart that's why you were going to Cal Berkley that's smart because that's smart you don't want to know test it you don't want to know don't test it I didn't know that with Jud though I didn't know he's superstitious I didn't know that about higgy either well higgy copied judge that's what he said right yeah but still he couldn't have not yeah can't not higgy I got I got a real serious question for you last do you do you mimic anybody's swing like you mimicked my swing and ridiculed me about my swing on the Padre's team uh no no one swing I I do like to mimic Jason Adams pitching motion though he's my new uh s impersonation okay what do you mimic about it has a good sense humor about it too yeah he's a good dude yeah what does he do that what does he do that you oh I mean you know it's the [Applause] you could say the same about CE though a little kind of CE kind of has the short arm too so you could kind of make the same same thing about CE who's throwing aight for y'all yeah he's like down here a little bit more yeah they both have the short they both have the catcher throw right from the ear yeah Adam's like just straight up to the ear true true all right hickey we got to let you go but just let me know if you want to meet any of the seals I can hook you up I was there in March and and did a whole thing if you want to meet just let know true story all right cool but I'm gonna warn they drink a lot they drink a lot higgy so that I don't know if you'll fit in no yeah I definitely definitely don't fit in he just wants to get on the gun range higgy just wants to get on the gun range and I'm sure he's been there already so don't don't higgy's got his connection he's got 15 homers in in San Diego he's a guy he's a guy now yeah just let crash brag about you bigy you made it you did a great job keep keep going man it's been really fun to watch you and obviously the whole ball Club there so appreciate the time dude this was fun people were waiting to get you back on and uh going to the Astros so Hayward was 208 289 393 six homers in 63 games with LA he had a great year last year resigned with the ball Club roster crunch they let him go right after he had that dramatic what was it three-run Homer the PCH at three Homer and he was pissed there were quotes I don't know if you guys caught from Freddy Freeman saying he wouldn't talk to anyone besides a few texts to Freddy he was distraught I mean he was also a big Clubhouse leader there among others but yeah this sucks man but no now it's great no no it sucks though what I'm saying is like this is what sucks about baseball right like they have people coming in getting healthy Max Muny and some other guys that were coming back back and there had to be roster decisions they traded for a Rosario they DFA him right after M Jason Hayward it just this is what sucks you get and and yeah he was great in the room and he was great in the clubhouse and he was great in all this but then the team looks team doesn't look at it like that they see the 20a and the numbers that he was slashing and they're like we can get more than this out of somebody they chose km over here and then mooki went to right field and they needed a true center fielder so it's I'm happy for J Jason is a good dude man I love Jason Hayward he is a good dude and I'm happy that he landed on his feet and he's got a chance to make another run with the Astros Astros Dodgers World Series CS Hayward it's Homer or something like that yeah or Tucker comes back in the first week of August and Astros do the same thing that they just that the Dodgers did to him too like it it sucks as a guy that's gotten axed I was never at these guys levels I was never at the Kier Meer level to okay well you know I never get never get fired to Jason Hayward level level where I never get fired everybody reaches that point in their career and I'm not saying heyward's done I'm saying at some point when your role is diminished teams got to let you go and I mean I give credit to the Dodgers for letting them go whether they made the decision or not like it's not it's not easy for that front office David Roberts anybody that's committed to this team it's it sucks when you have to let a a clear leader whether he's a leader in the clubhouse or not I don't know but he's a clear leader it's tough to let him go I love Houston scooping him up though in case that turns into a thing right I mean if you are Jason Hayward you clearly were very bothered about the whole situation and you're going to play I mean it's it's not you're you're always mad when you get let go by a team I mean it's just the way nature of the beast but now for him a little chip on his shoulder yeah maybe but listen he's the last few years he's really struggled offensively for for a it's been a while last year he was good though he was yeah he was better last year for years before that he was almost out of the game yeah but he he's not because he's a good guy and and people like having him around and he plays great defense and he does some other things that are people really like but like CR said listen it happens to everybody I got DFA Kat has been DFA more times you know than I can count on you know one hand so it happens to everybody I mean unless you're unless you're a hall of first ballot Hall of Fame guy almost this happens to almost every player at some point I mean I think was it Mike pza when he was in Oakland at the end got like going the middle of the year right I mean so and I don't know that for a fact but there there are people like at the end that are just like okay dude you can't do this anymore Joey Vado essentially couldn't find a spotter the Reds kind of kicked him but the Reds were right I mean yeah he didn't come back yes yeah it listen it happens I mean as great as Dereck Jeter was at the end the Yankees basically were like there's not a spot for you I remember Paul canero with the white socks 2014 his last year he B he played for like a million dollars because they were like there's really not a spot for you're going to be a bench guy you know we'll lowball you so that you hopefully won't come back he's like no I want to play one more year and they're like ah crap it's a tough spot for the team right it's a tough spot for the team and it's a tough SP for the player because what do you do you know it listen again this game time never stops father time is undefeated and eventually this happens no matter how great you are yeah all right well let's take a quick break and actually during that break for the YouTube crowd Please Subscribe talk about another father time signing um smaller one but Ken Rosenthal coming up next inside scoop time [Music] [Music] all right here we are let's go over Rich Hill why because he got called up I know it's cool the Age part is cool he's 44 years old he's he is he is the you know 2020s version of Jamie Mo Jamie Moyer but dick Mountain are the Red Sox this desperate they they're this desperate I mean I know they're kind of falling off a cliff we'll get into a PO later they need Innings he thrown he's thrown two innings in Triple A through two innings Rich Hill has never been an Innings Guy what's the worst thing that happens I mean it can't get any worse but it's just like there's got to be a young guy they could call with that could do something for him because they got a clear roster spot for him right I mean listen this is nothing against richell at all I like richill I've been around richill great interview great interview I've talked to richill I've done a lot of things with richill but like I I don't I don't know I just don't I just don't understand how a team especially a team that's supposedly in a playoff race can be this Des it's not like richill is gonna come in and give you you know eight shudy the first time out I mean if he gets through four Innings it'll be a miracle all right I have a pop quiz who was older Jonathan papan or Rich Hill Rich Hill it's easy well it's a it's not easy I mean Pap's 43 but rill's 44 we have Pap coming on later Pap may come back how I mean Pap's in good shape yeah I I bet you if you put him on a mound right now he's 90 I don't know about 90 he's probably upper 80s I bet for us to talk about anyone else besides judge or artani when you're displaying candidates for an MVP race Scott if it's a day that ends in why I'm getting crap from fans so it's nothing unusual and the Yankee fan thing with Bobby with JR has been particularly loud at least in what I'm getting and I don't care they can say whatever they want Bobby Wood Jr is a great player he just happens not to play for their team so they can't understand exactly not all of them but a lot of them why this is even a question and frankly if judge has another historic season as he is having it probably will not be a question but to diminish Bobby Wood Jr because Aaron judge is having this amazing year when Bobby wit Jr is having a different kind of amazing year that's ridiculous and I understand fans they're going to root for their team they're going to want their team prominent of course but at the same time you might want to take a little step back and look at the whole sport too and what the guy in Kansas city is doing every day it's not a home run every day but it's a home run a lot and he is a remarkable defensive player as well so keep the crap coming I'm gonna keep talking about it okay Ken I got three three things for you one what day doesn't end in why no day AJ that's what I'm saying why I'm getting crap just just making sure okay just so just so you know that okay two Yankees fans if you don't play for the Yankees there are no other teams you should know this by now you've been you've been making basball actually but Yankee fans on certain issues in particular yes yes you've been making baseball come alive for a long time and then thirdly Ken is the race that close because I I mean listen I'm a Bobby Wht fan I love Bobby Wht Jr but with what Aaron judge is doing and I'm not a Yankees fan if anything you could almost call me a Royals fan more because I'm a central guy most of my career but is it even that close I mean I know we're trying to Hype it up it's kind of like judge and then and then Bobby Whit's having an unbelievable year but judge has done so much of the I mean you see the game last night he's robbing home runs doubling dudes off at first and center field I mean to me I get the the clamoring but I just don't see it being that close I'm sorry and I love Bobby Wood Jr AJ no one's trying to Hype it up I think this is merely a conversation that stems from the fact that the Royals are doing something they haven't done in a long time make a playoff push Bobby wit is in the center of it all he is one of the elite defensive Short Stops in the game where judge last night aside is not one of the elite defensive center fielders in the game so it's a conversation it's a conversation that when you break it down it's pretty clearly judge at this point but at the same time Bobby wit if you just look at wins above replacement he's going to have probably a 10- win season obviously judge will be above him a 10- win season is pretty amazing and that's why this is even something people are talking about he plays an elite up the- middle position like judge and he plays at an extremely high level he does things offensively basically everything you would want so yeah he is going to be top five probably top two and all I'm saying here is you can acknowledge the greatness of one and acknowledge the greatness of other if we have enough space in our brains we should be able to do that that's all I'm saying I don't have a lot of space in my brain but I want to talk about the greatness of Lindor this year before we get to who might be the judge but I think this this this is a closer race but hit a little bit on the greatness of what Lindor is doing for this Mets team this year Lindor is kind of the National League equivalent of Bobby wit Jr maybe not quite as electric but it's the same kind of argument that is taking place here now Otani does not play defense at all and that's something I'm actually going to write about for tomorrow this idea of a an MVP winning without playing defense is that something we should be looking at Etc but you're asking me about Lindor and Lindor has done some great things this year especially since about what was it mid May when he really took off and he's been a leader for that team he has been a stalwart offensively defensively left side right side of the plate in the clutch at times not always and he is a guy that is proving to be worth that contract and a lot of people have questioned this saying Francisco Lindor is not that player he actually has been that player for them and it kind of gets overlooked partly because he gets off to these slow starts but at the same time what he is doing for them and if he drags them into a playoff spot the way Bobby Whit Jr is dragging his team into a playoff spot it might be a different conversation with regard to MVP I'm not sure we'll have to see how Otani finishes and it's essentially the same discussion if Otani puts himself so far out there historically 45 45 5050 possibly then he is most likely going to be the MVP but there is some question about hey do you want to give it to a pure DH and that's what he is this season he's not pitching he is a pure DH I'll go to some teams now Ken I think the Kansas City Royals are making enough noise for us to talk about them yet again I mean they have a very legit shot of winning this division this AL Central did you see this coming and I believe that you wrote about the Royals in training too but if you just want to Enlighten us on you know what you've observed from this team from their offseason aggressiveness all the way through their trade deadline wins to now and I guess the last layer for me is how they continue to be such a great contact team while there are some people that are like contact doesn't matter anymore actually Scott it was my first column of spring training my first stop it was Kansas City in Surprise Arizona and I was curious about writing them about them because of what they had done in the offseason bring in Lugo and Waka and even Will Smith and some others as well no one knew that this was going to happen the way it did in fact at the time I can't recall exactly what my words were but I'm sure I was exercising some degree of healthy skepticism because you have to prove it before you can actually be considered a playoff type team and they have I thought what they did in the off season in stabilizing the rotation and to some extent the bullpen though they needed to fix that later was a really positive step forward and of course the wit junr extension as well is something that they did last off season that offered them a measure of stability that really a lot of low Revenue teams don't have a superstar player signed long term so at the deadline they needed Bullpen help and they went out and got it and EG has been amazing for them absolutely amazing I don't believe he's allowed a run yet they are a team that yes it's a contact oriented group it's not a particularly flashy group in terms of star power name power outside of wit Jr but they are getting it done and Matt catoro their managers doing a terrific job as well I don't know if they're going to beat the Guardians it's going to be really interesting to see how the central plays out but the Royals set out or have done what they set out to do and that was to contend and again can they sustain it will Lugo have this kind of season next year and all of these things I don't know but Brady singer's taking a step forward they have had a lot of good things happen and they have made a lot of good things happen so credit to them Ken you know talking about the royals here never thought i'' be doing that but let me ask you this in the same division is the AL Central the best division in baseball four teams of 500 are better can you name there's one other division can you name the other division no I can't NL West I would think NL West NL West yeah but you ran out of time too bad Ken but but Central is probably going to get three teams in just like the NL West is yes this team is surprising Orion is surprisingly good I'm gonna bring this back to the MVP conversation because it's interesting one of the arguments that you'll hear from Yankee fans about Bobby wit Jr and yes I've heard it so don't say it's not there is that the AL Central is weak it stinks Bobby Whit Jr plays in the AL Central it's as dumb an argument as Aaron judge could only hit home runs in Yankees Stadium that's an argument I hear from other people other people and judges about even split I think it's 26 on the road 25 at home but as for the central yes and you look at the Tigers there they are maybe the surprise they've played really well in the last few weeks and here they are at 500 you likely will have three playoff teams from this division unless Seattle gets really hot and it's a credit to each of their plans Cleveland I hated their offseason they did nothing they took a step back essentially and did not spend much money they made some moves around the edges but it wasn't much and yet they transformed their offense and here they are their pitching starting pitching is still really problematic I don't know that they addressed it as fully as they should have with Alex Cobb and Matthew Boyd but they're right there Kansas City we've discussed Minnesota terrific young team in some ways they have some really impressive young players and they've got some Superstars as well one of whom car karea remains out so I love what they do and they too have had some good things happen on the pitching front with Ober and woods Richardson all around so it's a good race for starters and yes it's a division that does not deserve to be discredited as much as it has been even with the white socks in it and those teams benefiting from playing the white socks the only reason ajs that is because he wants to make sure everybody knows the white socks aren't as bad as it's it's a really tough division so they're not that's no they're worse they're actually worse than that they're actually worse than they're worse but but think think about if it was the 19 games where the the twins could be 18 and one against them the Royals could be 18- one against them the tigers are nine and one they could be you know wow and then the guardian that's the difference in the division the Guardians are five and five right now that's right not good let's go to the east let's go to the AL East if is all that judge is doing overshadowing stto in his walk gear I get it Soto will get his money but in the sense of is it overshadowing him enough that if the Yankees and another team pay the same amount of money maybe soda wants to be his own man somewhere else oh that's tough to say I don't know the answer to that I would say it's overshadowing it to an extent but we all know those of us who follow this most fans what Wan sto is doing and that what he is doing is pretty remarkable in its own right he right now would be third on my Al MVP boutot he has a career high in home runs this is one of his best seasons he's improved his defense though it's still not going to be his calling card and with regard to the question about the Yankees versus another team he definitely sees the value of being in the same lineup as Aaron judge now will that determine where he goes absolutely not what is going to determine where he goes is who makes the highest offer which team makes the highest offer that's what this free agency is all about and that's where it's going so it's going to be an interesting offseason to be sure because stto is such a young free agent really the youngest Elite free agent since A-Rod going all the way back a quarter century and that's going to make it quite an interesting Affair Ken quick follow follow up on this did the Yankees have more of a policy of letting players go to free agency and testing the water so that they don't kind of outbid themselves during a process with a player I mean they did this with judge you can make a strong case that if they don't get Soto back on a long-term deal Yankee fans are going to lose their mind based on how good he's been the connection the whole deal so I'm just wondering if that's a policy with a team like the Yankees or even some bigger Market teams they don't outbid themselves it seems like the Mets have done that at times with players as well what do you think they have signed certain players to extensions over the years srino stands out as one now he was an arbitration eligible player at that point not what you're talking about a guy in his fifth year it's tough to sign guys once they're in their fifth year and that's where sto is right now if you remember with Canó they made him an offer if I'm not mistaken but it wasn't the offer he wanted and he left so I don't believe they have a set policy against it and in fact they have made offers to stto at least that's what's been reported so clearly they are willing to do this but if you're wotto and you've already turned down 440 million over 15 years from the Nationals a few years back you know where the Market's going and you know that in an openly competitive environment which is exactly what free agency is you're going to do better than just having one team bid Ken before you go I have to ask you this because we we talked about it a lot yesterday it was kind of a big story from the weekend the Montgomery Snell Scott Boris back and forth that's kind of going on Monty kind of blasted Boris Snell stood up for Boris obviously Monty left Boris Snell sticking with him Boris hasn't really commented back but there's obviously some things we don't know on either side is this a is this a big deal or are we just trying to make more out of it since Montgomery who was one of the best pitchers last year now was in the rout is in the bullpen and is saying these things or is this just something that happens on a day-to-day basis I wouldn't say it happens on a day-to-day basis because it was quite unusual to see a two-time sa young winner out there as long as he was and even Jordan Montgomery World Series hero out there as long as he was I don't know that we're making too big a deal of it Jordan Montgomery said what he did then Andrew B baggerly of the athletic went to snell and asked for his response and Snell gave his response different people have different opinions often Montgomery feels that Boris botched his free agency Snell feels that Boris did not and they've made decisions along those lines Montgomery left as you said AJ and Snell stayed the real test will come this off season because if Snell gets the deal that he ultimately wants then it's all going to be okay he got 30 million this year a high aav and ultimately let's say it's I don't know 6 180 whatever the number might be then everything will be fine in his world that's the test though and Scott Boris had has an amazing class of free agents this year it's one of his best it goes back to the quality of 2019 when he ate Cole and strawberg and rendone this year it's stto Alonso Burns bregman Snell Chapman and Bellinger if they opt out and I'm probably missing a few so it's going to be a big winter for him and yes with those particular players the ones who were part of the Boris 4 and didn't get what we thought they were going to get I feel really confident that he's going to do better Chapman's having a better year Snell's having a better year Bellinger probably just okay but he's still a guy that teams are going to want if he indeed decides to opt out Snell having a better year he won the S Young he's not winning the S Young this year Well I shouldn't say better year he's come around now he's having a better second half just call me the Ken call me the Ken fact Checker from now on thank you I misspoke he's been great lately he's going to opt obviously but that leads me my next question I know we got to go but will Monty opt out or will he because his contract I mean that's like is he gonna I know he's come out and kind of says he wants to pitch in different places a different place but like that's a weird one to me because will he opt out and because he's got a lot on the table to to you know to to say yes to that player option so will he opt in then say Diamondbacks trade me I don't know that he would do that he may opt in and say okay not a great year I'm going to have a better year with the Diamondbacks next year and then go back in the market and see if I can make up what I lost that would be my expectation but given the demand for starting pitching perhaps he sees it differently because the way to calculate this or at least one way to look at it is his guarantee for next year I think will be 25 million maybe a little bit more um based on some escalators can he beat 25 million in the open market the answer to that probably is yes can he beat it with a deal that he would want as opposed to a deal coming off a better year next year that's the question and I don't know off the top of my head how old he is exactly I believe it's 31 this year so age becomes a concern too it's going to be an interesting decision for him I would not be surprised to see him opt in though yeah he turns 32 years old already in December so if he does one more year now you're going into your age 33 season at that point and yeah the escalators were complicated it's I think he's currently at 20 in the 20s and then he's short of those starts to get to the next number and that's you know not why he's in the bullpen but anyway interesting case which we can get to in the offseason as well um Ken thank you very much for dismissing his sa young year last year and I apologize to AJ for blundering there AJ's never made a mistake Ken so he's just trying mistakes trust me I make plenty of mistakes that's that is not a problem he's just trying to make sure everyone everyone's perfect Ken you're the best thank you we'll see you on Fair territory on Thursday thanks guys and fair territory from Monday is a good one in about five minutes good luck to us so we'll start with Randy Rosara against his old ball Club the Tampa Bay Rays and he was the star yesterday he does step up in those types of moments he really wanted to Homer against them and he did Big three-run Dinger Mariners are three and one in the Dan Wilson era and actually next step B he got plunked on a two two pitch that he was pretty pissed about but also I mean it's not fun to get hit anyway smashes an Oppo Homer in front of the home crowd second home run with the Mariners he's had a pretty slow start with Seattle it's part of why they've struggled there you go so hitting the left shoulder on a 2-2 pitch from Ryan pepio I mean is someone trying to hit him no I mean also it's his former teammate I think he was just bummed some people are like oh he's getting pissed at everything I'm like I I think he's just pissed because it's not fun to get hit by a pitch right yeah and he just homered and yeah the crowd was into it and he got hit let me say can we show the Tweet there's a tweet about uh Adam Jude no he was comfortable in the visitor's Clubhouse can we talk about this for a second I had two things I wanted to ask that was one because this this is going to sound like get get off my lawn old man which is fine I don't care made himself comfortable in the visitors Club with the Rays here for a while pregame catching up with ex-teammates and having a combo with manager Kevin cash I have no problem with him being seeing his ex- teammates you don't go into the other team's Clubhouse I'm sorry but if I'm on that team I'm going get the bleep out of here we'll see you on the field you don't need to be in the other team's Clubhouse if you play on the other team you'll see him on the field like I'm so I know times have changed and I'm all for I don't care about fraiz I don't care about pimping homers I don't care about any of that you don't walk into my Clubhouse you just don't and I'm and I'm surprised listen Kevin cash one the nicest guys in the world so he probably didn't say something and there's not really a veteran guy I guess on the rise to to go up to him but I promise you if I was on a team or there was a teams I played on and I got traded and I got DFA and I got switched teams if I would have gone into the other team's Clubhouse even if you leave on good terms in the clubhouse somebody would have been like get the out of here now right and then if I was like screw you then I would probably got hit not Randy didn't get get hit because of this but what I'm saying is like this and I don't know kows probably might disagree with this but like for me like the clubhouse is sacred ground even if it's the visitor you don't walk in there like I I I wouldn't walk into the home Clubhouse when I was on another team I played the White Sox after I didn't walk into their Clubhouse and be like what's going on I'd be like hey I'd text the clubhouse guy hey meet me outside or meet me in the tunnel but I ain't walking into their clubhouse as a guy that used to play there like especially in the same season no chance bro feels awkward to me feels really awkward like I don't know I would feel weird going into a home clubhouse that wasn't mine like I remember somebody was trying to show me uh the Cubs new new Clubhouse and they were like yeah we'll just peek our head in I'm like I don't think so I I don't know I don't know that I would have had the reaction that AJ had but no chance I would have gone in you meet outside in the hallway you can hang out I've shoot leaned against the wall outside of the hallway in the you know in The Concourse there out on the field meeting with those guys you know I'm not like don't ever talk to the opposing team they're the enemy I was like whoa pump the brakes like I can want to beat every single one of my ex teammates but going into the clubhouse and hanging out nope not not I've never seen it I I honestly you can say I've never seen it so it was kind of shocking to me when I read this yeah me too I never I don't know if I've ever seen either but heck I still it's still a little awkward for me now and I've been out you know what eight years now walking into team's clubhouses it's still like as a media member it's still like I walk in and I'm kind of like all right I'm just GNA go talk to the manager now if there's someone I know or someone we've had on foul territory I'll go up and talk to them or somebody we want to get on the show I'll say Hey you know like we'd love to have you on and then I'm like all right see you but I'm I'm never like you know used to drive me crazy crowds when the media guy would come in and sit in a chair like there was times where the guy would come in and S you'd be doing an interview oh and I'd be like you need to get up or they'd read the newspapers like on the on the uh middle like the island in the middle we're like dude those aren't for you and they're sitting there they're watching the TV I turned the TV off they're watching the TV I'd be like not for you right and like it's just awkward it's just I don't know because this is like where your home as a player this is your home and then to have a guy from the other team come in I don't know how I don't know how I'd react but there would have been a like hey he needs to go like talk to him outside he would have tried to make not a scene but it would have been like hey not being a whatever here but like not here yeah it's not the spot it's just it's just it just been really awkward you can hang on the field I mean 100% I have no problem with that yeah go to dinner hang on the field you know give the hug pregame talk to him during BP talk in the tunnel just this is my this is our area this is my team's area yeah I think a lot of fans feel that way too so let's do this Jonathan Pap I want to hear Pap's thought on this Pap on this yeah see if he can change our mind I mean Pap once choked a guy once on his own team so I don't know great intro all right we'll get back coming up next we'll continue this topic on [Music] Ft all right so so where are we at with the Phils after taking the series this weekend you know I know you guys on the Philly show have talked about especially for the last couple months the fact that this team hasn't been able to go on another run like they had at the start of the years it's been so up and down guys you know they they have a good week a couple weeks to go against the Marlins and Nationals and everybody's like okay I maybe they're finally back they're hitting the ball better finally they're pitching a little bit better then they go to Atlanta and the offense just kind of lays an egg uh at truis Park not a good series at all and then they go into Kansas City and post 11 on Saturday and 11 again on Sunday so I think this is a really big week for the Phillies and you can say it about any series any any home stand of course any road trip but they've got the Astros who have the best record in baseball since like miday and then they have the Braves coming back for a four game series so you know the Phillies have not played good baseball generally speaking since the All-Star break and now they're in this spot where it's not just you know are they going to have the number one seed it's man they they're in a spot where they could finish with the number three seed and then play a wild card series maybe against the Braves and they want to avoid that of course so they're hoping that they can pick up where they left off this weekend in Kansas City their bats were a lot better and you know from from top to bottom and and that's something that's been lacking It's Kind like the whole the whole shebang has gone gone sour at once over the past few weeks Todd maybe they just fli their script CU last few years they've gone off the terrible starts and then Crush at the end this year they got off to an incredible start and now have kind of you know played 500ish but maybe they just flipped what they were doing yeah it it certainly seems that way and I I think I I've heard some people say this um Chase hutley actually told this to Ruben Amaro a couple weeks ago in La he like I think this actually could be good for them to face a little adversity midseason rather than you know they were on A6 win Pace in early July and now they're like trying to fight to win 95 games so they've really cooled off but maybe a little adversity for this team can help them you know going through some struggles now maybe just getting some bad play out of the way I think they're hoping that they get that out of the way and that way they can kind of hit their stride in late September mid-september late September and go into the postseason hot because how many times have we talked about or how many times have you guys seen like the hot team even if they're not the best team goes off and gets to the World Series wins the World Series saw that the Diamondbacks last year Phillies in 2011 won 102 games Cardinals are red hot going into the postseason knocked them out in the first round one on one the world [Music] series The Great parlay Pap with us right now for a good 10 12 minutes all right Pap let's go right into this I don't know how much you were hearing about Randy a r roara going up against his former ball club and I love Randy I love what he brings to the game I think we all do but did he just commit a you know baseball cardinal sin by visiting his old Clubhouse before a game 100% 100% agree with uh AJ on this you know like this happens like all the time you know and your boys and everything thing I mean even Mark Kat when he you know white socks Red Socks I mean you know he I said hey CS come by and see me he's like man I ain't com in y'all's damn Clubhouse he's like come meet me outside the clubhouse so you know it's happened to me before but um yeah man it's just something like you know what like we could be friends and stuff and like AJ said man you want to catch up go get you a steak dinner and glass of wine after the game you know I'm trying to whoop your butt that's it have you ever seen this before have you seen a player while you were playing head into an opposing Clubhouse never not once never not not not one time in 13 seasons did I ever see this and um you know I I I wouldn't be surprised if like you know some of the other teammates were like hey bro we got to get the hell up out of here like I I I know you got boys and stuff but we trying to prepare for a game man agreed agreed let me ask you this though he said he was talking with Kevin cash like Kevin Cash There's not really a vet listen there's not a veteran veteran guy on the rayed team at all really I mean that you know but so wouldn't Kevin cash have been the guy but they said he was chatting with Kevin cash so I don't know maybe it's changed maybe listen Pap you're old now so maybe times have changed yeah you know and it's AJ man and you and I both go through this man like when you're in the booth or you're doing a pre or post game man there's some things that you're just like golly like this is just hard to even talk about because the game is completely changed so but you know if you can't beat them join them so you know the game's going to change so if you're not willing to change um you're not going to last very long but it's just your views in the way you see things so you know to me this was on Kevin cash like you got like you got to know like man come on man these other guys are in here trying to prepare for a game there's way look there's many ways to sneak around in a clubhouse and in the stadium if you want to see a guy besides you know strolling him through the actual Clubhouse there's many of back doors to get to you know uh coach's office or you know even in the cage I got I have nothing wrong even meeting in the cage you know in the tunnel but the clubhouse to me has always been sacred I came up and you know in a in a in a time where nobody was allowed in the clubhouse except for kids if you had a son he could come and shag BP that was about it and even in even in Philly I don't know Kats were you there in Philly when um Ruben Amaro tried to like be like all right no kids and Cliff Lee got all pissed off at Ruben about like why can't my kid come so like this goes back a long time you remember that cats or no I was I was gone after that I remember hearing about it that was 14 when when I left when that happened 14 14 John frell did try to do that David Ortiz who wasn't very popular in 2014 you know just this is our City he was super excited when John frell announced to the team we suck it's the kids fault don't bring the kids in D'Angelo his son was in there every day David barely said anything about that so that usually doesn't go if you start the season and you let kids you better finish the season to let kids because otherwise someone's gonna get really pissed off trust me because guys were pissed at the end of day like the players police themselves man and like you said there's no veterans in this Tampa bay clubhouse so um it's probably one of those things that just slide through and like like hell I mean I guess we're too old for this to even matter man hey Pap since you love the bet I got a great bet for you do you know who the Red Sox called up to pitch for them today yeah no no clue richill okay no no listen this bet who who's older you or Rich Hill uh I think I am barely no you're actually younger you're actually younger than him so let me ask you this here's the BET maybe we can get odds on this bet MGM who right now can throw harder you walking out on Fenway letting one eat or Rich Hill right now who's gonna pitch for the Red Sox this year oh um well let's see so I just I actually I just threw an oldtimers game uh had to drill kabus his punk ass but anyway um that's a long story but I I would say like I tried to get one of the uh cop cars to bring the radar gun to see how hard I was throwing but I would say 8 sixish you know I probably got up to 86 is 87 is and uh last time I saw Hill throw the simulated side game I think he threw four heaters at like 86.7 miles hour was his average so um you know this is all Rob Bradford one of our beat Riders here he look this is not the answer in in Red Sox Nation by any means I love Rich Hill play with Rich Hill uh but this is a stretch to me and and if if they're if if they're basing their um their help on Rich Hill Red Sox are screwed I mean to me we already are screwed um you know we had Arizona come in here we had zero answer for Arizona Diamondbacks got swept by them and then you bring a team like Toronto in on double header um got our heads drummed I mean it's it's just not looking good the the Red Sox brand of baseball is is not being played right now at all and Alex Coral tell Alex cor will tell you that how do you change that how do you change a team that doesn't have that can't play defense and the pitching is getting really really really exhausted yeah so every every one of these guys have reached their total Innings by far um so to me uh there's a few things that you know I think about cat so I'm I'm a big Clubhouse culture guy you know um I I always try to at least you know maybe go grab a lunch or something with a guy you know I try to like get the pulse of a team when I was played with them and the pulse of this team man you you walk through that and you're on the you're on the field from during batting practice there's no energy man and um I'll say two things on on this okay now is he a good player yes but ever since kasus has showed back up in this lineup I think they've won one game um you know the energy to me when you're in a postseason race and you're like within four or five games you play every out you try to win every out you try to win every inning and you play balls to the wall we're not out here trying to you know soak up the sun and you know do our grounding and like get all the Emoji no go play your ass off dude I don't want to hear nothing about get out of the media get out of the media and another guy they let go is uh this Nick soard guy who was an energy guy and so when you got 30 I think they got 31 games left to the season you probably got to win at least 18 to have a chance you better come and bring it every night and there better not be one stagnant night at all because you're not gonna make it so are they done C in your opinion they're cook yep okay wow all right so great all right let me ask you this this is off the subject but I just noticed in your background as a Mississippi State fan and Mississippi State Alumni how can you have hounds tooth hanging in your wherever you're at like isn't that like criminal well D AJ you got understand one thing when I come be toown everything is free baby so uh this free Hotel you know free flights free food everything free we do it all real big but um just I don't know man it's it does kind of look like a little Alabama up in here doesn't it that's what I'm saying it looks like the hounds tooth for Alabama I didn't know you know here we are we're planning to go to a Mississippi State football game together and I look up and you got Alabama stuff hanging in your hotel room you changed p n man we gonna have we gonna do it right you know I'm Mississippi State all the way man but uh I'm looking for us to be at least 4 and0 by the time we get them Gators out of there oh boy oh boy all right so let's let's try get on foul towards the end of season can do that we'll prob I think what's up we'll be in playoffs by then that's four weeks out right no it's uh no it's before the playoffs start right before September 21st Miss Florida plays Mississippi State still there's still a week left in the regular season yeah yeah yeah well let's cue the line let's do some bets then let's everybody admire how yesterday went yeah crra did you parlay that all together no I did not wow you're missing out man I just put them all I just put them all down I just put them all down a separates it's okay I'll tell the boys for sure that's a clean clean sweep money bags fresh here boy look at that that is that is a beautiful looking money bags right there Pap second place sucks hey hey hey talk talk to me when the season's over hey I'm I'm stream I'm trying to get like 45 out of 40 you know or or 40 for 45 you know I'm I'm steady baby hey you're you're up four figures we got we got three up four figures and Katz is starting to get hot again too so Katz you want to kick this off and then Pap will follow mine's easy I'm going total over I'm having the Padres coming in scoring over four and a half runs just the Padres over four and a half miles micheles going for the Cardinals it's hot in St Louis it's gonna be a lot of pitchers thrown yeah uh I think I got um hold on let me see my I got another parlay today Athletics and reds over nine and no run in the Cubs in the uh Pirates game and the Pirates game in the Cubs game is gonna be a big game by the way two studs going at it steal and that Jones kid that Jones kid the uh he could throw he's a stud too so I got no run in the first right there looking for uh probably first five under two I like that one but I just went ahead with no run in the first and the over in the Athletics game I think that's going to be about 12 13 runs today all right so that's plus 214 what are you throwing down I know yesterday did 200 200 okay all right I'm gonna get mine out of the way so we can clear the deck for AJ cuz AJ Pon ball incoming AJ just took a big sip of water for a reason cuz he knows he's going to be talking for a minute on his parlay so I'll go Yankees and Dodgers on parlay Pap day I will take the Yanks against Patrick Corbin they're hitting lefties lately I don't know sometimes the Nats end up playing close games so I'm just gonna moneyline this and I'm gonna pair it with Jack Flare's Revenge game against the Orioles because he was bad with the Orioles last year and he is a different pitcher so I'll take those two dubs 100 to win 110 okay okay so everyone keeps call he keeps calling himself parlay Pap and let me say this you can't nickname yourself so I'm starting to think it should be parlay pinski at this point because 1,00 is a lot more than 1100 just saying okay so this is the parlay of the day and if this hits Pap you're gonna be chasing me for a long time okay I tell you what if this hits if this hits AJ I will bestow the parlay nickname to you thank you all right you heard it all here here we go I'm going with Scott Yankees money line Cole versus Co vers Corbin they should win that game Atlanta and Minnesota over eight runs they're gonna score uh Rich Richardson Woods Richardson versus uh swach they're gonna score both teams can are swinging it they both have score over eight easy KC the way Jared lorenzen's pitching Michael or sorry was that Lefty the Pillsbury throwboy yes Hefty Lefty jar Michael lenen for KC they're going to they're going to tie him the Guardians tonight and then last but not least my man Dylan CE only needs six and a half now I know he's pitching his Cardinals they don't strike out a lot but Dylan CE short arm we had higgy on here earlier short arm throwing that slider pby Stow the split Germaine D hit it out cost us 19 Innings but Gyan SE over six and a half that is plus 1,225 so you bet a 100 you're get 1,225 Dylan CE will be your last game right of the night yep yep oh I can't wait till he gets six strike outs oh my gosh oh you better check my Twitter fee because I'm gonna be going crazy everyone them be like one two three and it's not too late for anyone stay up all night it's in St Louis so you know about it is we all compete against each other but yet we all went into fans of ft and the Ft fan baby that's right that's right it's a team effort when I put that in I thought it'd be like plus like 400 and it said because it was like plus two something until I put the CE in and when I put the CE in it jumped it to 12200 I was like oh hell yeah why not a lot of things that have to go all together ass AJ you ain't getting the parlay P nickname CA uh we'll see I it I want it for you polish parlay I think the toughest I think c will get his KS against the Cardinals I mean they're they're is struggling yeah contras is out again I think the KC game might be the dicey one I was thinking about that too and lorenzen's been great but Gavin Williams has been pretty bad this year dude I watched him pitch in Milwaukee a couple weeks oh man dude Willie doas hit a ball that damn near broke the Toyota Tundra out in right field he hit it so hard that that game's going to be interesting just because Cleveland's getting chasand needs it yeah all right well good luck to everyone pap great to see you as always good luck on your bets tonight and hopefully you maintain your nickname right yeah and I'll try to stay sane on the show tonight man it's gonna be another tough game for the socks yeah I'm I'm more into the pre and the post than the actual hey you're becoming the next Aussie Gan okay yeah yeah well I I love I love the uh Blue Jays over tonight by the way but I'm not allowed to be on the red sock he St clear of those games hey that's probably the way to go right now that's smart smart good luck Pap good talking to all right guys man y'all take care we'll talk soon you too appreciate you parlay Pap telling you to hit that bonus code fou fo download the bgm app if you're new sign up and deposit at least 10 bucks into your account place your first wager and receive up to $1,500 back in bonus bets if that first bet loses so like if you want to tail AJ's bet and it falls you get some bonus bets if you're new and if it doesn't fail then you give AJ the nickname he deserves your bonus bets will be available once your initial wager is settled if your bet does lose gambling problem more concern call 1800 Gambler and we have some injury suck updates to go over which sucks but also we have some other really good hot Corner topics O'Neal Cruz moving to the [Music] Outfield what's up ft fam that was fun so we'll get to some hot Corner topics here's one we won't have time for I just wanted to point out a few people on social media were talking about Vlad Jr and how he's actually having the best hitting season of his career by raid stats like look at him quietly get to almost I mean he's almost at a clean 400 OBP he's at 558 on his slugging 955 Ops that's a 169 Ops plus that would be a career high even better than his 2021 second place MVP finish now he's not going to win any gold gloves most likely in his career but he's above a five win player he is going to be highly coveted this off season if he does not resign with the Toronto Blue Jays I mean he's a guy who could have changed a playoff race 100% but they wer G to train him right but they better resign him then in the offseason well he's got one more year doesn't he yeah if you're him if you're him didn't he have Boris I don't know I got to check I mean Bo's gone so he's probably going to get traded this off off season I gotta look for Magnus Magnus Sports oh we know Magnus he's the sponsors um different Magnus um but uh I don't know I I just don't think he's gonna resign I think he's gonna play it out now he's got this close unless they blow him out of the water I just don't know that he's gonna he's gonna sign an extension and I think they waited too long they should have done it before this year because if he keep if he finishes off the way he's going right now and he finishes off with those numbers he he's looking at 300 million he just got very expensive again he got real expensive they should have done it while his value was down now it's back up yeah how much less will he I mean how much more will he get than Alonzo he's waiting for Alonzo's Market this year he's younger and he's a better he's a better hitter than Pete is Pete can hit homers and Pete's homers even this year down but vlat is more of a complete hitter than Pete no I love Pete but Pete's turning 30 in December 26 is 25 he's not 26 until next spring training yeah he'll be 27 in his free agent year what like what does he get how much more does he get does he get what first baseman's gotten over 250 million recently none they don't pay first baseman KS why will he not Toronto why he what Toronto why will he not resign in Toronto because you hate Toronto so tell us what 20 seconds you can't not bring him back because you already lost bow too many windows in Toronto four stars [Music] [Applause] so the Pittsburgh Pirates are playing baseball right now and it doesn't matter what happens on the field at this point because they're not in the playoff race it's fun to follow guys like Paul SK Jared Jones is back for Pittsburgh there are some fun players to watch that includes O'Neal Cruz he is moving to center field I don't understand this one we're in late August is it because he makes too many errors does make quite a few errors lately What 24 hours and more since halfway through the year I don't know your season's over so what's the plan here is he going to play center field going forward they said for the foreseeable future so then that means they got to go find a short stop now I don't know the pirate system do they have a short stop in their system that's close no what's his name they got hurt Williams he was playing shortstop no Nick Gonzalez Nick Gonzalez is back he played last he's plays second he's second Bas and them right now no the kid that got hurt at the beginning of the year that was there last year I don't know who you're talking about but I'll look at their 40 man roster because I don't remember everything at all times but I do think it's an interesting move I think they were referring to his injury from last year at 1.2 so Derek Shelton Pirates manager said that Cruz's season ending injury last season was a factor in the decision when he broke his leg sliding into Home Plate what I was I I read that in an article I mean is is ikf ikf signed for next year right yes so maybe that he's their guy he's their short stop for next year so so Cruz is this a time when you go hey let's see how he looks in Centerfield at the same time if it doesn't look good or if he does look good then you got to find a short stop and and and but ikf is L next year and then you worry about it after that I know but you have a short stop you have I would need to hear more of why like are they are they worried about his range like 24 errors you know he could get 30 I get it that's a lot but he's young he's learning I guess I he's not like 22 years old anymore but to me I would want to hear why why that move was necessitated why what they're seeing I don't know I it's a surprising move to me because his value was a shortstop his value was a big rangy shortstop with a cannon for an arm that can hit right and listen I I had a coach once tell me and wasn't that long ago and I don't mean this you know demeaning towards anybody at all he said this was a college coach he said the difference between an outfielder that's great and an outfielder that's good is like three homers and 10 RBI on the year now it's a little this is in college that's only 50 games no it's a little bit more in the big leagues of course because there's more games sure but he's like I'll take the guys closer to home plate and and meaning p Short Stops catchers because they're harder to find and I just don't understand if O'Neal Cruz can play shortstop in an elite level and do the things offensively that he can do his value is as a shortstop is this Them Softly saying they want to see what it looks like out there and maybe he'll stay out there because they don't believe in him as a short stop yes this is a better this is a different way kind of what Happ with jazz in Miami Jazz Chism right second base they're like we're gonna just try you in centeri then he has he's stuck in center field until he goes to Yankees now he's a third baseman and he was a short stop initially he was a short stop then he would moved to second then they move him to Center and O'Neal crw is not playing second no no chance so you put him in center field and I mean he's huge O'Neal CR he's got a great arm he can fly but the injury part was confusing to me and I didn't see all the transcript but I did you know I go off like the CBS articles which I like but what does last year's injury have to do with moving him to Center and also center field center field you run more what's a more dangerous position than center field catcher okay you guys are on a different planet but wait cat is an injury risk greater at shortstop or center field center field no no I mean shortstop used to have guys sliding Indi and doing all that stuff but but that doesn't happen anymore no I think center field you're on your feet more you run more right crash into wall I've never heard this I've never heard of this oh you had an injury last year we're going to mitigate your I mean keep you off the dirt because it's harder on your body like I'm just trying to think why they would why they would say that or what they're thinking it just doesn't it's just it's just a way for them to say we don't think you're good at Short we're going to put you somewhere else but they they're trying to come up with a reason why and the reasons all are they don't want to come out and say hey guess what guys we don't think you can play shortstop we're GNA try him in center field so oh he was injured last year and he this and that and a deep down I think you know that's what he said you know that what what they're really saying is we don't think he can play short stop and they need a center fielder I mean they do not have enough The Outfield anyway so an outfield that starts to build around Cruz and Reynolds is a good look for the future that's fine he can hit find a short stop though and look at the game right now look at look at KS look at the game right now look at the Short Stops in the game right now I mean where do you start Gunner Bobby Wht Ellie I mean do I Seager I mean let's keep going Trey Turner right I mean Muki was just short for a while now he's back in right field but I mean look look at the shorts STS in baseball right now and how good they are and the good teams guess what they have a really damn good short stop usually right I mean vulpi you know offensively but defensively he's a stud okay Gunner Orioles obviously Brewers Willie adamus right we can go through the list of great teams Royals have uh Bobby Whit the Guardians now rokio he doesn't hit but he plays defense Like A Champion right I mean just go kareah the twins I know he's out but I mean go through the teams it short sub is a big deal and they don't have someone working that I see on the short term don't go over the long terms for me like Conor Griffin's 18 years old on the short term if if he even sticks it short Tamar Johnson has played some second some short he hasn't hit this year so I think the plan for next year Johnson is not gonna be a short sub big leagues no he's gonna be second right the plan for next year is ikf at Short O'Neal Cruz at Center if they feel like he's good enough at some point they're gonna have to find that short stop but that would be the year so okay they're going to have to pay for one do that in free agency they Crush free agency they're probably going to get a huge short stop for $300 million and outdo the twoyear 17 that they paid Russell Martin that's their franchise record from 8,000 years ago you can't one year Short Stops in the big leagues not good not great ones not great you can't one year them you're you're looking at you're looking at guys at the end of their career that are that are still kind of able to play short like short stop is so so important it's it's ridiculous you can't try to piece meal Short Stop together okay one more on the short stop front we'll do this quick jav bayz is done for the year season ending right hip surgery the question here is do tigers no not yet I know what you're gonna say you you you keep going you're gonna say the Tigers get rid of them no they they won't 73 million dollar over three years should either no you got to see if this fix there's too much left on that contract maybe this is what he's been going through they said he has a back and a hip kind of issue one of them usually hips usually lead to a back issue if you have a tight one so I I don't think you can and I think Katz agrees with me on this and I agree with Katz you can't you gotta you gotta at least give him one more year to see if this was the problem and then go from there or at least a couple months I mean you got give need to start get going here it's been a long time like if if he can't if he looks like this at the plate crats for the first couple months of next year I mean you you got to start thinking about something else or at least putting them on the bench more frequently like they they have to get back in playoff mode and I think they're getting close they have another big league Short Stop in the waiting we just talked about maybe they can get one from the Pirates like he still plays he still plays a premier position if he wasn't able to do that if he was struggling over there look at Jose Abu he his Bat was struggling and his defense were struggling a little bit team walked away from the contract may maybe I'm just too biased I like jav bayas too much because of all the energy and the what he brings to the team and I get it as a fan of the Tigers you're gonna say ah I don't want to see him hit anymore but to me I think he has more value than his 184 batting average this year okay so we'll see how he looks next year we'll swing right back with slap hands next on Ft I got one for you on uh one of your teammates I'm gonna ask it in two ways because our our fans in the chat have been asking about it so I don't know is don't ask about him skin is what he didn't know when he's done he goes I don't know when skin is done I'm not asking there's a news every day that that only ski and um trippy Joe Walker in 1847 have done so I don't trippy Joe Walker he was my favorite picture to face he only threw 91.2 so he's throwing out hard enough yeah dump cut they're only registering as change UPS too so wait so Ski's NL Rookie of the Year debate when okay so tell me why he should be and then also second an question is if you take him out who should be the Rookie of the Year he should be um not many rookies go out and start an All-Star game uh with less starts than anybody else um every time he steps on the mound we win it it doesn't matter like and I know there's losses and I'm saying like we're always going to be in the game we're always going to be in the game and here come the comments of what about the Dodgers cool man you have one bad start kids 21 like I mean what do you want me to do he's gonna be a Workhorse for 20 years um but I think what he's done every time he steps up there um that was my fault um every time every time he steps up on the bump I think it's just like one of those where you just you're in awe I mean it's it's crazy what he's done and and I think what a lot of people don't see is like yeah he goes out and they're like man he's good pitcher but like he's good teammate he works hard really hard he understands how to be a pro how to learn um you know the right from wrong how to go about every part of his business up to his start um it's it's truly really really impressive and um you know I think he's kept us in a lot of games even when we do lose or if we don't if he doesn't get the win um he keeps us in every single game so um you know Annie's got a two he's like one of the better players um that we have if not the best when it comes to keeping us in games and then [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I get to go first on SLAP hands sweet all right so recently we had whip Maryfield on and uh Scott I got a message from wit's dad yesterday and he said just so you know wit's a three-time All-Star and I said well I didn't say that and he said no you're host and I'm not the host so apparently Scott called him only a two-time Allstar and that came from wit's mom and you don't want to mess with Mama so Scott we will accept your apology now I apologize to the Maryfield family I've have been calling wh Maryfield games since I was a young puup in the Cap Cod Baseball league and I usually call him a three-time All-Star but maybe I did slip because I forgot about last year last year was kind of a blur we started a new show back to you okay we got got five hits last night so it was appropriate yeah crushing it hey it's great story too I think it's in the uh what is it the Atlanta Journal Constitution about Whit being home then getting the call that was after Azie Al got hurt and what he's doing with the Braves right now pretty cool slap uh not slap pants CS hats I wore my Boston Red Sox hat for Pat didn't even get to I thought I was goingon to get to show it to him he was gonna be super excited cooked cooked cooked cooked Jeremy said A+ I say C minus our director is a actually I say a d I actually say a DFA on that hat um [Music] DFA all right and before we go I know we didn't get to this today but did you see Rowdy pitch again last night he gave up runs so Po's out for him did you see the strike he got called for him though it was the worst strike ever called in the stat cast ER it was like 15 inches off the plate wait what and the Umpire called it a strike oh we got to do that for an upo SE yeah it it was it was like an eephus pitch and it was 15 in off the plate wow all right we're going to break that down actually we're going to break down I mean granted it was like 15 to2 at the time so I mean I understand Mr stast Mike petriella is joining us tomorrow we we ask him why yeah we're doing a little old school versus new school seg tomorrow we've got Luke mey from the Cincinnati Reds among others so we will see everyone on Wednesday and if you're on the YouTube channel right now just stay there we'll flip you over to hot sheet the baseball America show that is taking over the prospect world [Music]
