all right Char welcome to run the damn ball this is your host Daniel Magnuson we talk Nebraska football college football and it has been a while um I actually took a break I really never posted anything uh since the Iowa game this past fall um so if you're listening thanks for being here I'm about to give a rundown the spring game that we just saw yesterday what I think about each position group of course we're going to talk about the quarterbacks still and Rola all that so we'll just go ahead and jump right into it um so I was thinking about it just a little bit ago before I decided you know I wanted to do a quick little pod uh solo but if not for Dylan Rola the excitement level for a lot of Nebraska fans would be a lot lower and it I mean it's it's higher for myself after seeing yesterday as well uh just seeing him like playing it on Nebraska field chucking around the field so we'll get right into it um I'm definitely someone who I mean I'm always going to be a Die Hard Nebraska fan regardless we could have the talent level of like Colorado State and I'd still watch every game it's just when you have nice things for once it it feels good okay like we watched our basketball team go to an NCA attorney yeah they got wrecked if we had something nice though for once so hopefully our football team can get on track it all starts with Dylan Rola okay so um it was time to make a come back to the Pod here we are he's ready Dylan is ready to be the starting QB right now for Nebraska um it seems effortless for him to just Chuck it 50 yards down the field he had some really good throws yesterday I think he threw two touchdowns he also threw a two-point conversion uh In The End Zone it looks like we're watching Patrick Mahomes part two out there um and I know it's just a spring game it's is not like an actual opponent but but from what we see on the field watching football I mean a lot of us probably have watched plenty of the Chiefs play if you're a football fan you see Mahomes he's like one of the greatest ever we have a quarterback that looks just like that on the field the way he plays so I mean what more is there anything more I can even say sometimes when things are going good it's like man I really don't have a ton to say so it looks like in my opinion Rola is ready to go um you know similar to Mahomes Mahomes definitely grew up playing baseball you know his dad played the MLB and I learned you know just from I think it was a podcast recently that someone did that you know Dylan played baseball when he grew up in Hawaii and never really cared to play football until high school he tried it out and decided okay I'll be QB and so he's come a long way he's always had that arm Talent just being able to chuck it down the field I think he played pitcher a lot growing up when he played baseball so we got a guy at QB who's ready to go and five star obviously we knew that this was very possible um but I'm just going to go ahead you know I'm going to go ahead and claim this is our starting QB this year at Nebraska's dyl Rola harberg looked good too okay harberg looked like he made some throws and has improved his you know passing skills a little bit we've seen him throw the long ball he had a couple good long throws last year when he was the starter um so harber looks like a good number two we know he can run he has wheels before we had some injuries last year he was running for like 70 yards here and there I guess you know against Bad teams but also was running over some people too so good number two QB and then I'm happy we have Danny Kalin because I mean he's our third scholarship QB and we're going to need him at some point in his career I believe um he looked decent as well and I saw Matt rule mentioned we're talking about the quarterbacks right now I saw Matt rule mention that he might take a quarterback in the portal um don't really see the the the need for that if if you're asking me I think we have our starter already um rule hasn't said anything out right but we have our starter at QB uh right now and I think we have some decent backups so I really don't think we need to mix anyone in right now that's just me though um we can move on to running backs and we're just going to really go around try to talk about each position group I'm going to give youall my opinion on what I think the depth chart is going to look like for a lot of these different position groups I know we didn't see some guys play because you know they're veterans and they've had injuries so they're just holding them out or they're you know they're Ty Robinson rending their sixth year and they don't need to uh you know they're a CO reg senior so they don't need to play a spring game you know like those kind of guys um based upon right now with the running backs and this is run the dam ball so we're really going to get into this part uh EMT Johnson is definitely the number one running back right now from what from what we've seen in the spring um not like going to be super flashy with speed but really good Cuts he attacks the holes that the o line creates and solid running back has the build you know right now I would say he's probably the number one I think Dowell I think it's Dante Dowell um a good number two I was hoping Dell would have speed or dle however however you say it would have speed like um Maurice Washington maybe even Terrell newbie like that kind of straight line speed those guys had at times um it looks like he's more of a Bruiser um he's I think he's like 61210 maybe uh so it looks like he's a good like number two back not going to do anything crazy he can catch out of the back field he can run into people um we saw you know he had some speed he had a long run uh yesterday for a touchdown but I think that was against like the backups some of the backups um so he's he's going to be in the mix for sure those two guys are like for sure going to be in the mix and then we move on I think you know Gabe Irvin if you follow Nebraska football he showed some flashes in the first few games he dislocated his hip in game number three against Northern Illinois last year obviously that took him out for the season um so I'm just hoping Gaye bvin can be like 90% of what he was last year you know he had some big runs um in those first two games even though Nebraska looked pretty bad on offense in you know the Minnesota and Colorado games last year he was like the one Bright Spot It Seems um but obviously he went down that kind of derailed our offense a little bit last year if he can just be he's not going to be an every down back next year for us one he's coming off a surgery hip surgery um and we don't need that out of him and I think that'd be too much to ask especially in Big 10 play um we're going to need a committee Approach at running back I'd like to see Irvin be number one if he can reach like 90 to 100% of where he was last year I'd be happy with like 8 5 90% uh healthy gay bbon going into this year and hopefully he can just stay healthy and not get anything crazy again um he's battled injuries he's the highest ceiling guy I think we have in the running back room so be intered to see how that shakes up obviously ramir Johnson's another sixe senior guy who's utilized injury red shirts and um I think last year he had similar you know he got hurt in game number three just like Gabe Irvin we know what ramir can do he can catch the ball he can be a you know Shifty running back he's not an every down guy but you know those four guys you know ramir Gabe d and EMT Johnson yeah those four guys those are our running backs right now you know Quint IES played a little bit yesterday and I think he had some injuries he was dealing with in the spring um but you know he looked nice on one or two runs yesterday so happy about what we've seen from them um hopefully we can just have a healthy room going into game number one and just let a ride with the running backs um going to be quite a few guys in the mix and I hope rir is able to have a decent Year too because he's like one of the most well-liked guys on the team and you know ramir he was looking have a big year last year and obviously they got derailed by an injury you know in a senior year so you know luckily he got to come back and I was just thinking too because you know perspective wise I'm I'm you know 25 years old just turned 25 recently and when I started being a Nebraska fan was like where I started like being able to watch the games and was like emotionally Indo it was 2009 so I was 10 years old we didn't have cable but I could watch the games on like ABC and stuff um and you know we had Roy hu that was like the whole offense that year uh but you know we went from Roy hulo to Rex Burkhead who was like boom hulo Burkhead both NFL guys and then Amir Abdullah comes in in 2011 so there was like a six sevene span where we just had dudes at running back they were like NFL running backs they went in one Us games and we have not had that um we have not had that since those guys and I grew up thinking that was normal and no that's not normal at all because ever since then we've had some guys in the mix like Amman cross Terrell newbie ozigbo um shoot I even mention Maurice Washington on the field Maurice Washington by the way um and some other guys in the mix but I mean last couple years I guess Anthony Grant was there um who they had a bunch of guys just throwing around in 2020 and 2021 they just were mixing in here and there we never had we haven't had a solid running back that's been like an a thousand yard guarantee guy in a while and so I think that's kind of hurt what our offense could be at times especially over the last five six years we just have had that guy uh most of the time and so that might be a recurring issue this year I'm just hoping we can stay healthy there I kind of just rambled about the running backs but this is R the damn ball so we're going to get into that a little bit I think we're going to see a little bit more of an aired out offense this year especially with riola being the starter in my opinion already I'm just going to go ahead and say it he is uh wide receivers people were saying that we didn't see any of Jamal Banks out there look this guy has played like thousands of snaps in college football for Wake Forest he played for Sam Hartman not for Sam Hartman with Sam Hartman at Wake Forest before um he was still there last year even though Hartman went to Notre Dame but he's played a lot and he's already like a guy on the team that's going to go out and contribute they didn't need to put him out there on the spring game and get him you know risk anything like you want the guys to improve Banks is already there so um we'll see him in the fall he's going to probably be a starter for us Jaylen Lloyd is a starter and he's been that way since November that's I mean that's just a guy I mean if you watch the last couple games of the Season he had you know big play touchdowns against Wisconsin Iowa and uh who was the other game I you know I can't remember but it is what it is um those two teams um I think he had three total touchdowns on the year I'm not going to talk ton about last year I've done that enough but at least on Twitter um Jaylen Lloyd will be a starter I really like what we've seen obviously royola had a long touchdown throw to him like think it was like a 60 yard or something so that was sweet U janon boner had a touchdown catch from Rola as well [Music] um I've always thought boner should be a starter somewhere like I know they tried to put him at like tight end fullback last year which was cool at times I just didn't really think that was his natural spot yeah he was athletic and we had to put him somewhere cuz you know we just didn't have the we had a bad offense last year If we're honest and so we're just trying to put him on the field somehow but he needs to play receiver and just be that guy um he has the talent he can go up and get balls we saw him have a diving touchdown catch yesterday boner should be in the mix as a guy who's out there making plays for Nebraska this year and then another guy I mean we saw Alex bolck play he's just a good you know solid blocking receiver can go out there and make some plays um over the middle to please do not throw a one-on-one go route to Alex B like we tried that like 10 times last year and every time I was like there's absolutely no way he's catching this I'm sorry like he's just not taking a big 10 corner on a go route or on them like he's just not like one V oneing people like that he's just not that guy and so you know I think he's a good slot but he's not a good I we're not we should not be doing that I'm not trying to complain I'm just saying like we should not be doing that this year with him I I like he's a solid player but that's just my opinion uh did Cory Barney had a touchdown catch from harberg we saw that like a 40 50 yard bomb something like that that was pretty sweet um I didn't even hardly think of him going into the spring game it looks like he's already a guy um that is going to play and this fall he's also roommates with Rola so if that guy's just catching from one of the best QBs in the country that's a lot to say already about rayola he's a starter in the Big 10 okay like power four starter so yeah he is one of the better QBs out there um yeah so he's going to be he's going to be good he's goingon to be good to go Isaiah neor had some catches he was really good when he was at Wyoming I've been following Wyoming for you know out the group of five I try to keep up with some of the teams Coastal Carolina Wyoming or some of those um SMU now they're P4 but um neor was making plays for uh Wyoming and then he went to Texas got hurt and then had to sit behind all these NFL guys and now he's at Nebraska and he's actually really good so he's going to be a guy out there too I think you know those five guys that just mentioned are all are all going to be you know top six receivers in terms of yards for us this season and hopefully they can all stay healthy speaking of that I mean Demitrius Bell looked like he was going to be a factor uh this coming fall he got hurt in the game I think he patella on his knee I think that's like a 3 to six month injury so we may not see him uh until maybe maybe he comes in late in the fall if he's able to make a comeback but that's tough I just hope he's all right and then also um I we'll talk about the defense later but blly Hill got hurt too he also hurt as patella coincidentally so those two guys were looking like contributors on both sides of the ball and ear least on their you know sides of the field and they both got hurt I mean that's two injuries could have been worse for the the team as a whole but uh hopefully they'll be able to make comebacks Malachi Coleman sat out this spring game too I think he's coming off some sort of surgery over winter and I mean they just didn't want they're not trying to rush these guys back Malachi's played he had a touchdown catch last year um you know I'm interested to see what Coleman does because I think neor and banks are gonna have seasons where they really contribute a lot I think Jaylen Lloyd is obviously going to be in the slot Bullock is a known commodity is just like a guy who can give you minutes I'm making him s like a scrappy point guard is what I make it but anyway um Malachi Coleman I'm not I'm not sure what he's gonna do this year you know it's like obviously he's got the tower he's super athletic um I'm not sure if he's going to be a big time contributor this year just because of some of the veterans we brought in in the portal what Jaylen and uh you know iron boner are going to do Jaylen Lloyd of course is who I'm talking about there um some of these other young guys I think Coleman will be a factor I just don't think he's GNA be a starter this year um maybe he'll come along more in the you know later in the season and be a starter not sure I think this could be a year where he still needs more time to develop and then hopefully by the time he's a little bit older he'll be a starter that's kind of my I know I just talked like a minute straight about Malachi Coleman but you know he has the potential to be really good I just think he needs to be patient with just how big that wide receiver room is um with just guys who can all play and so we'll see about that um there's going to be a bunch of I mean there's competition in that room there when you're recruiting you know wide receivers are a lot more available than defensive tackles there just more human beings that you can recruit who are 62 180 than are you know 64300 it's just you know that's just how it works I know y'all know this already so um another thing I saw I think I was listening to Sean Callahan and Steve Sipple talk but Jaden Doss might be moving to defensive back and he's a guy who you know got a bunch of catches last year in a couple games and I'm like you know we are I'll get to the DBS later we have so many young DBS that haven't really played and it's like why would we be throwing Jaden down there maybe he'd be good but it's like I'll I'll talk about guys I think could maybe transfer and if you're moving a guy that early in his career to play DB where there's already a log Jam of young freshman and red shirt freshman I don't know if that's a good move for him uh might be a little bit obviously I'm never I I don't even live in Nebraska so what whatever we'll move on I hope that he's able to you know be a contributor for this team but I don't know if that's a good move for him um I'm talking about Jon Doss moving on to tight ends um fedon looks as good as he's ever looked athletically right now you know he looked a little bit slow at times last year obviously had back-to-back ACL tears you know his first two years at Nebraska so I'm coming up on his fourth year now and he looks like he's ready to go and be you know number one tight end as always um Matt rule mentioned that teams have been tampering and trying to you know put him get him to go in the portal so he transfers which is crazy I mean I could do a whole podcast talking about the structural and just all the different issues in college football right now and that'd be if I were to get me talking on that it'd be like two hours long and y'all don't want to listen to that so um Nate borer looks in he looks like he's in really good shape right now I mean he just looks like a tight end out there he's like 6'4 65 and just athletic like he's a good you know number two to to you know with pedon being number one um and then I believe we're GNA see I saw lynen Meer made a catch he's another tight end we got lynen Meyer and Le and trit are going to be kind of tight end like SL fullback blockers for us um so those are two guys they're worth mentioning um isma Smith Flores had some catches I saw that he's a retro freshman tight end and you know Carter Nelson's coming in I heard he's killing it in track right now in the state of Nebraska Carter Nelson fourstar tight end one of the top know I think 50 or 100 players in the country um out of answorth Nebraska he may not be playing a bunch to start out the season because he's just learning The Playbook but he's going to be a guy for us this year I can I can already see that coming coming so offensively I mean that's kind of the rundown of guys to know for this upcoming season uh I'll do a video probably later on what I think is going to happen this season for Nebraska I love doing that it's just fun to predict stuff um but that's the offense I think I'm goingon to talk a lot more about the offense probably because that's where we need Improvement the offense I I watched last year was the worst Nebraska offense I've watched as a like conscious fan maybe they were really bad in like' 04 or whatever with Joe Dy or ever that QB was that was not very good but um this is the I mean last year was awful I mean that and I'm talking about the offense I mean that was like if we put Zack Lee with that 09 offense we would have gone nine and three maybe no like we probably would have that was so bad oh my gosh I think it's funny okay sorry I need to stop roasting things uh I guess I'll talk about the omine before I move on to defense I mean there's look I'm not an oine Guru and you need to watch like hours of film to like really dissect what's going on with o line so there's not a whole lot to be said it's kind of an unknown how good they're going to be like they they have veterans on the o line and they were not very good a couple years ago I mean Adrian was run for his life Casey was playing hurt um last year you you saw last year I'm not really sure about the o line to be honest I think Ben Scott's a good Center um Teddy Brasa is better uh is a little bit better probably and so is benhardt but they're both tall and I don't know I just I'm not sure I'm not sure about some of these guys corran's coming off an injury we're not even sure if he's going to you know we're not even sure where he's going to be tackle guard um lutovsky is in there you know they got Justin Evans who's played some who else I think Gula could even be a factor at one of the tackle spots not forgetting people right now we got some good freshman coming in they've talked highly of walk- on uh Grant sein I think is his name uh Tama from Hawaii is good bricks is obviously going to be good but you know those are freshman I just mentioned um trying to think about other people I didn't make enough notes about the o line trying to think about names um I might be forgetting a guy or two but anyway I just mentioned all these guys and you know they're not benart definitely improved last year but I'm not really sure what they're going to look like in terms of what's you know who's that starting five going to be um I haven't done enough research probably on the o line I just know that if they improve from where they were last year that's that's all I can ask for really that's all we can ask for um we don't I don't even think we really have any NFL guys in there I know rules talked highly about some of them but um and obviously the Freshman I think have potential but I'm just talking about the guys we know are going to be in the in the starting five for sure uh in the mix there not a whole lot to be said we're just trying to see Improvement there so move on to the dline actually let's talk about special teams real fast Tristan Alano missed two kicks it might have been windy yesterday Lincoln like it usually is um I'm not sure but that's no excuse um we just got to see him improve I mean we were spoiled for several years with some of the kickers we had Brett Maher Alex Henry were killing it in the you know 2010s late 2000s and then we had some I mean Pat Smith was pretty good in 2013 hear me out I mean I know youall haven't thought of that person ever in like the last 10 years but he was pretty good that year um Drew Brown was pretty good for the four five years he was there and then after that I think in 2018 is when we got a new trying to remember 2019 maybe 2019 was a disaster kicking here we've we've had some ups and downs and some really big Downs at the kicking spot I just hope oano can be consistent uh Long Snapper we got a new Long Snapper came in wucky um I've heard Ortiz was pretty good last year I mean he's going to be in the NFL at least on a practice squad or something this year um speaking of NFL draft in the had no one drafted I I'm wasn't really surprised I was hoping Rymer or Nome would get drafted um some of those I mean those guys will get free agent deals some of them already have not going to dive into that and I mean you look at Nebraska last five six years I mean yeah they didn't get a draft pick because they haven't been very good I think if they' gone to a bowl some of those guys could have got drafted actually um but you know we'll see I'm happy with what some of those guys did if you look at the guys who were you know at the pro day working out for Nebraska this you know past March almost all of them transferred in the only guys that were there like for a consistent five or so years were Quinton Nome and Luke Rymer all the offensive guys even Nur transferred after one year at CSU faen Sanford started out at some like ni NAIA before he came to Nebraska like everyone was a transparent like Bross staff was just miss on so many guys on both sides of the ball and recruiting and they just never materialized um some of the guys ended up actually making an impact and you know they were few and far in between you know um anyway we'll move on to defense I know I've kind of been ranting about stuff it's just because I haven't posted since November uh but anyway move on the dline so this is the anchor of the entire football team okay we're talking about Ty Robinson now Mash Hut mocker and then just everyone with them um Tai is coming up on a sixth year obviously if you know in case you don't know some guys can play six years in college football say they red shirt one of their years and they also have a covid red shirt you know that's two years are sitting out right there and 2020 was now uh five what is it four or five seasons ago so you know do the math there's some of these guys out here they can do six years so Ty Robinson's one of them he could have gone the NFL he decided to come back for a six year he once you know have a good final year with Nebraska and go probably at the bowl game we all want that um Nash hutmacher is a polar bear do I even need to talk about him like he wrestled and we know this guy's a monster so those are our two monsters on the inside they've been there they've been killing it they're a big reason why our defense had the our defense last year was the best defense we've had in the Big 10 um since you know Sue and Levante David were carrying those defenses in the old Big 12 days this was our best defense since then and that is saying a lot um the fact that I had to bring up some of those NFL Legends is saying a lot um other guys in the mix that are going to be out there getting minutes I mean Cameron lenhardt I know he battled some injuries last year he's going to be making plays Elijah Judy is a good anchor in there kind of a you know number two to Robinson and Hut mocker Van Poppel looks good Riley Van Poppel looked good whenever he did get in last year it wasn't a lot um but he did play some Chief borders you know Matt R said he's the most improved player on the team uh in one of his interviews Matt R just gives so much info and you anytime he talks to the media he just like it's like he has his own podcast up there it's awesome a lot better than what we had before um not gonna say any names AJ Rollins got some minutes I saw him on the field he's all right I mean he's athletic not going to be like a big time you know snaps guy I don't think um so we'll see about that I used to play you know he was a tight end before um but this is where they put him Kai Wallen I mean he's like a really tall Rush end kind of like James Williams those two guys we'll see him on Rush Downs this year but they're not like every down guys they're kind of more skinny and Nimble than they are like every down Big 10 Defender Su lefotu got some minutes uh he played a little bit last year actually as a true freshman but you know had that red shirt because he you know he played a couple games so we'll see some of him and and I have some other guys listed as well I just don't think they're worth mentioning because they're either true freshman or they' never played and so those are the guys we're going to see in the mix on the dline and hopefully our defense can continue off their success last year because damn it we will be a good football team if we can get them to be where they were last year keeping Tony white will be a big part of that so we talk about the linebackers now there's a lot of guys in the mix and it's kind of hard to explain that room because there's the you know if they go three four you got you know the three down linemen and then you have the two outside linebackers that are kind of DNS but they're kind of outside linebackers um or it's Isaac gford sometime out there playing that role so it's just a mix of things uh that we're going to see I think princewell uman Mellen did not play yesterday I think they he also had a surgery over the offseason he's going to be a factor he looked really good last year when he was playing Jamari Butler is a guy and so we'll see a bunch of him hopefully MJ Sherman those are the three like Edge linebackers they're like true Edge guys that can rush but also you know if they need to dve back in zone or you know whatever it may be stop the run they can all do that and so I like having all of them I know the transfer portal is open for the next three days I hope we don't lose anyone at those you know High competition positions I'll get into where I think we could lose some guys later um inside linebackers they had Javin Wright playing inside linebacker even though he's a skinnier guy he naturally can play that he's just athletic had some good plays last year he had a great strip against Maryland I remember seeing um he'll be a guy maai bayor I think he's how you say his last name he's gonna be another contributor on that defense I think John Bullock could be a starter again he's definitely shown that he's a starter it's just there's a lot of different guys that could all play I think Javin McKai John bulock and then Vincent Shavers is the one freshman that's gotten the most attention from you know Matt Rule and other coaches just you know where where they see some of the Freshman guys VCH and Shavers is going to play this year and so true freshman linebacker out of Florida originally committed to Miami except Miami dropped their scholarship offer to him for something else and so he said all right I'm going to Nebraska that's my next best thing so happy we have him those are the four inside linebackers to watch for I think if you had to pick two starters it might be Bullock and right but you know I wouldn't be surprised if you know by yours the starter even Vincent Shavers could you know towards the back half of the Season or even just surprise everyone to be a starter week one because he's just the best guy one of the best guys so we got depth there that's the thing I hope John Bullock able to be a contributor again I know he you had an injury I think to close out last season he's coming up on I think his fifth year with the team yeah so we got a competition there we got some guys Stefon Thompson was the guy that added in the portal as a middle linebacker but I think he came in like 20 pounds overweight or something and to be honest with you I don't think we're going to see much of him this fall that's my take on him Gage Stinger kind of a he could probably do both he's a probably a little small smaller maybe like a Isaac gford type we saw him play a bunch yesterday he can tackle um we added a one guy in the from the portal recently and it wasn't really like a high-profile guy but Vincent genone from North Plat Nebraska he is going to be on the team this fall he's playing at Montana the last two seasons got three seasons left to eligibility so I think he ran like a 4 five in high school and as a crazy vert and he's just a Nebraska guy so might not be this season we see a lot from him but he'll probably be a special teams guy and definitely get in the mix in the future and then I I'll mention some other linebackers I just have some things to say um Maverick Nan is a guy coming off an ACL tar last year uh ret freshman inate guy I couldn't help but notice whenever I was looking at like practice images or just you know who we had coming in last year he looked like he was 15 16 years old I mean just in the face like obviously he was a big kid but he looks so young and there's I'm like this guy's gonna be College linebacker [Music] um I kind of have hot takes on some players over the years I didn't think I'd see a lot of of Nick Henrich um and when he first came to Nebraska he ended up being a big c contributor he wasn't like a star player at all but he was a contributor for sure um I I feel like the same way about Nan you know I think his dad play Nebraska the potential could be there for him to be like you know a starter at some point sometimes we just have certain scholarship guys where I'm like I just don't see it maybe I'm harsh I sometimes I watch people's huddle highlights and I'll just be like all right whatever um Dylan Rogers is another guy I feel like you know he's a red sh freshman didn't play last year at all and there's a lot of competition at linebacker we have a you know some older guys in there um not really sure if he's going to make a move at all I don't really think he's going to play this year either just with we brought in maybe a guy that transfers is that harsh to say I don't know I mean I think about certain guys that might leave the team we might lose an O lineman um just because there are some young guys there I think we we might lose a wide receiver in the portal just because we have a lot of young guys there the staff kind of overs signed at some positions I think they overs signed at DB over the last two years and we're going to see some transfers there maybe not right now now but in the future I think there'll be some guys who leave because they're like look I can go start at a group of five school you know and I'm kind of risking it here at Nebraska being like a third Stringer you know that that's how kind of how I see it I'll get into some of those DBS here soon uh Willis mahe is a they have a position on their roster called Jack probably like a hybrid linebacker essentially he's one of those guys listed um don't know if he played a whole lot yesterday but his dad played the NFL I remember seeing a video and it looked like his dad was not really it was like his mom who was more involved in his life I don't know it's beyond me look I'm talking about college freshman I need to chill out doesn't matter I'm just going in depth on on all the different position groups um on the guys I think could be you know out there uh next year so um if I'm not mentioning certain names just because I don't think they're going to be playing uh that's that's why I have said those people but these are the people I see playing that's why I mention them and then we got DBS we'll get to that right now obviously blly Hill I don't think we're going to see him in the fall um maybe makes a comeback later but he got hurt yesterday so that's tough he was a guy looking to be a starter at corner other spot I mean Tommy Hill is GNA be a starter at corner he's a senior he's had interceptions last year besides him it's just a complete mystery okay Ethan nation's a corner for Nebraska he played some in special teams last year he's athletic he could be you know he could be one of those guys out there starting potentially I think Jeremiah Charles has shown he's super athletic he's a track guy too we saw him dunk um when they'd had that little Dunk Contest during a basketball game we'll see I think one of those two guys could be the starter opposite of Tommy we have some other guys Bryce Turner was a track guy they got he's a retro freshman all these guys I'm mentioning are like retro freshman or true fresh freshman by the way um sincere saula or however you say that last name uh he got hurt last year and didn't play at all he's a red shirt freshman Dwight bule also got hurt and didn't play he's a red shirt freshman his older brother's DiCaprio Mario buford's a true freshman Larry Tarver is a true freshman Evan Taylor is a true freshman DeAndre Barnes is a wrencher freshman these are all like these all were guys that they recruited in the last 18 months to come play at Nebraska and I guess if they were early in roles it's been a year now but there's a lot of guys and I haven't even that's not even all of them I let me jump over to um let's see here the safeties some of the young guys who are safeties Rex Guthrie Roger gradney Caleb Benning Donovan Jones Braden prud ramire Stewart they got like how many guys do they have that are wretched freshman or true freshman um one two three four five six seven eight these are all scholarship guys by the way 1 two three four five six that's 14 total they have 14 total red sh freshman or true freshmen who are corners or safeties that's too many that is too many so yeah we're going to see some people transfer in the next year from that position group of DBS because that's just too many that's a log gam they overs signed which is okay because okay they have the nil to just throw money at scholarships that they don't have um but that's a lot of guys who I think is going to be playing though is Corners probably Tommy Hill Ethan Nation Jeremiah Charles maybe another guy gets in the mix and then safeties I think you know Isaac gford obviously is the jack of all trades deshun Singleton Maris Buford Malcolm Hartzog can play corner and safety Kobe Bretz can play and then I don't know if I mentioned ramire Stewart that's who you got um we're going to need some of those freshman retro freshman to step up next year probably need one or two to step up hard soog might end up being the corner opposite of Tommy Hill too I'm actually not that impressed with this group basic upon what we've seen in past years especially with some of those bini pass defenses um Isaac gford is better in run defense than pass coverage he's a good player probably one he's probably one of the top five players on the team right now deshun Singleton had some injuries last year but he still showed you know some flashes Maris Buford has shown that he can play in his career I think he played limited last year um because of the injury he had the closed out 2022 and we've seen Malcolm be a you know he plays larger than he is so that's the DBS um that's the part of the defense I'm most worried about because say one of those guys goes down that I've mentioned is going to be a starter um you know how they mix a match that if they have the guys to keep up with some of the offenses in the Big 10 because it's going to change we're not playing the Run heavy Big 10 West anymore um besides Iowa we have a mix of people or teams every year we're playing and we're going to see more of those West Coast Schools too and they like to throw it so we're going to need more out of our DBS now than we have in the past especially in past defense so there's just a lot of guys I mean how many scholarship they have total oh gosh they got 22 scholarship DBS and if you add if they're really trying to get Jaden dos back there that's 23 and there's only going to be like five on the field at a time at most maybe six if you're playing like Purdue yeah I hope they're able to put a good group together so that's how I see the defense stacking up if I could give you my starter predictions I you know I think we kind of already know we've seen the guys from last year I think it's going to be the same people um the only guys I see jumping in the lineup that we haven't seen much of before are going to [Music] be I think Makai bayor could be a starter for them on defense Vincent Shavers could be a starter those are both linebackers and chief borders will probably get some more minutes on defense and I'm talking about them like they're basketball players minutes um cam lenhard will play more if he's not you know he doesn't have to battle injuries but anyway that's that's my rundown of the roster post spring game what we've seen I know I only talked about Rola for like two minutes um but that should be everything I mean I'll get into my predictions on what we'll see um terms of record this this season I'll get in I'll do a prediction video on that that'll be separate I'll do that later on probably after I see where some of these potential transfers go um we're going to probably have if I had to guess I'm going guess around five players will enter the portal for Nebraska over the next couple days and that's fine I mean I don't know the exact scholarship count because they get the 85 they're allotted from the NCAA and then they probably have another 15 or so that they add through nil money they just say hey our school's not paying for your scholarship but our nil does they just throw money at those I know they do that for Walk-Ons that become scholarship guys um so not sure what that's going to look like I have predictions I think we're going to lose roughly four to five guys in the portal that's not that bad because they have theoretically they have like 95 to 100 guys on scholarship right now so that you know at a team where you need you have a lot of young guys trying to get minutes on the field that you're going to see that maybe they'll add some people in the portal too so once we get some of the portal stuff sorted out then I'll make a video on what I think the season's going to look like record-wise um but until then that should be everything really um I definitely slowed down on the podcast I guess I'll talk about myself a little bit more uh because some of yall may have been keeping up with the podcast over the years um I decided that I probably already talked about this too the last year whatever I did jump on the Pod but I'll do probably a podcast per game this year so I'll probably do an intro pod before game number one do a little prediction video and then I'll just do one you know after game one two three and then just throughout the season I'll probably do a podcast per game um maybe I'll do a couple over the summer I like to do a video where I just talk about how college football could be fixed structure-wise conference wise different rule changes they need um and I've talked about the Nebraska prediction video I want to do so yeah I mean that's probably everything there um I also don't live in Nebraska anymore so I you know used to be able to just throw my friends on the podcast with me when I lived in Lincoln but I think mov moving away and just having to like you know working full-time and having a you know a life outside of you know the bubble of Lincoln um has really I I don't know what it is I like don't care about Nebraska football as much as I did when I was younger I think it's just that I have other things I'm more focused on I still care a lot like if you know I still care plenty you know I just talked for like however long 30 minutes long on a roster where I think you know the I just mentioned like 78 I don't even know how many names probably like 60 guys I just mentioned on this roster um so we'll see what happens I'm excited about the season Nebraska has the potential to go to a bowl especially with this schedule and yeah I don't really know if there's much more to say I guess I'll mention basketball real quick Nebraska basketball add its in Portal guys but probably nothing to big time so I know I used to do Nebraska basketball stuff on the podcast but um that should be everything um looking forward to making that other video about predictions but until then run the damn ball we out
