2025 SEC Football Opponents Revealed: Was This A Lazy Plan?

Introduction [Music] and we are live welcome back ladies and gentlemen I am with your co-host Blake rafino alongside me is my counterpart Joe Deon good evening good sir Blake how's your bracket doing is it is it alive did you make one I have not I have not lost a game [ __ ] you're in women's bracket or men's bracket uh both are you can you provide any any sort of what are you calling me a liar yeah I'm calling you a liar you sound like me when you bring up the Jaden Daniels uh uh prediction that I had that I pretend like I don't know what you're talking about at least you just admitted that you screwed up uh my bracket was broken during like game two I stupidly P yeah yeah so I you brought it up and then like I listened to you mentioned that you think Auburn was a sleeper and I I totally bought into that and I started to think you know what that that kind of makes some sense they won the SEC Championship they looked pretty good you never bet that was a bit massive mistake or any of the SEC teams they seemingly [ __ ] their pants every single time they not just yet we gotta see if tennis Tennessee looked a little little shaky there at the end of that that Texas game a lot a lot of teams have looked uh yes and no du I mean Duke's kicking the crap out of JMU right now true I mean if Tennessee and A&M continue to to win then that's big for the SEC but yeah everybody just wants to clown on the SEC because it's the because it's because of the comments that sanki made right before the tournament where he was like oh we need to eliminate these automatic qualifiers and then the automatic qualifiers for these small conferences proceed to then beat some of the top Premier teams I think that he I think sanki was misin was uh misunderstood yeah I I I don't disagree with that but it's I think what he was trying to say was he doesn't think that with all due respect to the swag with all due respect to the Southland I think what he was trying to say was is that the Southland Conference isn't going to beat Purdue Grambling was never going to beat Purdue no so but Oakland beat Kentucky I could make an interesting case on what he's really trying to get at I don't think him saying that had anything to do with basketball you think it had more to do with football I think it had more to do with football they're just such different animals though I feel like he'd be a little bit more no it's how he mov it's how he moves he said the same thing for baseball a couple of years ago that we don't need that do not need to expand the playoff did they expand it or is it stayed the same no they St stayed the same so I mean look it is what it is I mean I to be real with you I watch more college baseball this weekend than college basketball you know just once my bracket's busted man I'm I'm out you know my national Champion's still in though who' you have Yukon Yukon see I should have picked former Ro Ram Dan early I I didn't do that I went with auburn I yeah I I at the end of the day Joe you you'll probably get you know first and second round a lot of them wrong if you pick every blue blood and you pick every top seed you're not going to be wrong majority of the time yeah that makes too much sense I can't do that I can't operate that way I need to you I need to go all in on the upsets and then miss all the right upsets um that has not been very very fruitful for me you know who my favorite team in the in the tournament is right now who who is it NC State get my man get my man the big fella some pads man six tweeted that out I mean come on dude I I don't even remember Dave Doren gota gota call him up he would be a really good right tackle he can move man he he's got some brother I think he'd be a really good running back okay all right well we're not handing him the football he's gonna get oh why not we gave take out his knees he's GNA go down so easily there's a reason why we don't have have you seen his but have you seen his quick feet if he's got quick feet like that in the basketball court what do you think he's going to do on the open field I guarantee you he Shooks a DB or two that that's why I I think that he should be playing right tackle or I think he'd be like a really good three four defensive end because he's so tall I I mean yeah exactly uh had they had a big win last night in overtime I thought Oakland was going to pull that out but they uh did not but we're not here to talk about college basketball Jill we're actually here to talk about college football we'll start off I'm assuming here with the SEC schedule remaining the same uh your early thoughts before we dive into that uh yes there's a couple of teams that have kind of caught my attention for who might have a little bit of an easier path in 2025 what's kind of more interesting and I think the better angle to take in this is that there's a couple of schools that are going to probably have new head coaches that actually have some pretty Florida right have some pretty light opponents and away and home or home opponents rather that they're gonna have to be facing so as soon as Billy's gone things start to lighten up a little bit in 2025 is kind of a funny twist for them um I don't I I think it well they it's going to remain the same so whoever the new the coach is in 2025 it's going to be abysmal for them well it's just the difference of who they get to play at home compared to who they it do matter it it it doesn't matter you don't think so you don't think that having the advantage of no if Billy a is there they're going to get killed oh oh no that's not what I'm saying I'm saying that new head coach gets the opportunity to play the hard now when Lane kein is there they might win some games I still don't think that's happening I'm still you can't you can't sell me on that I'm still not buying into it until it happens okay I'm not buying it okay that's fine and when you're wrong you're going to be wrong um I think it was very lazy by Greg sanki I think that basically they he's been in meetings for so many other things that the SK Joe when are we gonna get Georgia in A&M when is Georgia going to cyfield yeah like you you talked about there being no divisions so that you can you know play other teams that you don't normally get to play and it'll be better it's lazy and I gotta be honest with you I think Greg's got a little lazy in the last year or two I think officiating has been has gotten worse and he has not addressed it and they scheduling things a joke Jo I mean as someone who covers a team in the SEC okay all day every day I don't want to go back to Nashville I love Nashville always will love Nashville I don't want to go back to Nashville you know where I want to go or you know what I specifically want I want the rematch that LSU was taking away from them during Co we go to Texas okay as an LSU guy we go to Texas in 19 Co drops Texas from coming here send Texas's ass to Death Valley and let us get our our game that we lost there are just small there are KY Georgia going to Kyle Field Joe it's a joke you could have easily easily done some different things in MIT matches where you change some things up but they were lazy and I let's not let's not forget how l or just pass by how la this is to slightly to his defense and I know that we're going to get get into it after the break so maybe we kind of save our full reaction to reactions to this this has probably been one of the most tumultuous difficult off Seasons just for the reshaping of college football and his attention is elsewhere and I and I don't know if this is all falls on him and if there's somebody else who's typically responsible for scheduling they could have been a little bit more creative in the future matchups that are going to be pushed out there but I to his defense it him being distracted with all these other things going on it doesn't surprise me that maybe this does not get full attention Joe how much how much money does Greg sanki make that's a good question Greg sinki salary 3.7 in 2022 okay I have 3.7 million reasons why he needs to find time to do schedule Jo I I mean also why can't he hire someone else to can I be real with you why does the 2025 schedule got to come out right now well it's not the schedule it's the opponent the same I think the timing was the same no they got the schedule they got I mean it's the schedule I mean regardless of when and where you play them they're flip-flopping it it it doesn't matter like it none of that matters when or where you play him doesn't matter when it comes to act the actual opponent you're gonna play him regardless I I want to say didn't wasn't the same because I remember we did an episode on this I believe the timing was the same last year yeah that's fine but the problem about that was is that you had new opponents oh no you know what it wasn't it was in June it was inun last year when they announced this year schedule it was in June of last year when they announced the 2024 opponent then why are we making a schedule now that's a that's actually a very let's talk about that after the break that's actually a very good point I I I didn't even realize that that's a very good point that you brought that up thank you H maybe I am smarter than people think that I am Georgia football running back uh Trevor ATN arrested for DUI yeah not good news I mean that's the simple gut news for them fire Kirby it's Overby um former Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy is gaining buzz you you're dragging me into the waters to talk the NFL here I think this will be our Rabbit Hole segment I don't think it's wrong to be a rabbit hole seg look the reason why I wanted to talk about this and I know that you didn't want to talk about this is that you and I watched the kid and we tracked him and followed him the whole year and we we dissected the [ __ ] out of him for positive and for negative and right now he's getting hyped up by the NFL who hasn't really watched him and I think it's worth worth us talking about because he's such a such a Hot Topic right now I I hope please deark Lord let somebody draft him in the first round please oh he's gonna go top five he's gonna go top five you said that we said that last year about will Lis too ah not with this much certainty nobody traded nobody traded up to get into a position tra who's traded up the Vikings acquired the t uh the Texans 23rd overall pick so they have two first rounders presumably to trade up with the Arizona Cardinals at four so they could take him he's going top 10 at the very at the bare minimum all right we'll we'll talk about it then that that's an outright joke yeah it's an outright joke all right sorry about our good friends over was announced um when was announced early or late last or mid mid last week I forget with with march on the 20th okay oh okay so four days ago it was announced by the SEC that they are just doing something very SEC Football Schedule simple they're just flipping Home and Away between their 2024 opponents and the 2025 opponents Joe I I'm going to ask you your thoughts here but I'm just going to start off by saying it might be the laziest thing that Greg s's ever done I I I don't I don't remember something that Greg sanki has done maybe I I'm just you know revisionist history and and we're in the now so I I forget I just don't know if there's anything more lazy that the SEC has done than this when is Georgia gonna go to Kyle Field when is LSU gonna get their rematch versus Texas and get them back in Death Valley after they went there in 19 so many different things that could have been done here that was absolutely crapped on in my opinion by the SEC so the the timing of this you brought up and I didn't even consider until you really acknowledged this it's it's very strange this was dropped at the beginning of March Madness on the 20th of March the last time that this happened there was really good placement of it it was it was June 14th of 2023 when the 2024 opponents were announced now I don't know if the the thought process here is well we're just flipping the schedule it doesn't really require any sort of big announcement we don't need to go crazy with this it just feels as though this entire process for something that really Garners a lot of attention speculation discussion and could be a big headline was just slipped underneath the door and passed along and we didn't even really talk about it I I completely missed this until I started looking for topics for today's show I didn't even really know that this was something that came out last week it just feels odd that there's always this potential for the SEC to dominate headlines they didn't take advantage of it and I agree with the way that you're coming at this I don't know if necessarily the 2025 opponents needed to be so aggressively shaken up from 2024 ones like you're about to to go into talking about but just in general there's so much easy potential to to better strategize this overall and there was no effort put into it I I don't I I don't think that it should have been completely shaken up I think that you know your big time key matchups like uh LSU B obviously A&M in Arkansas is a big rivalry A&M in Texas is going to be a big rivalry ol Miss Mississippi State like all the rivalry games I'm not saying completely shake this up what I'm saying is is that when's the last time George has been to Kyle Field oh wait that's right they hadn't when is LSU gonna get their rematch that was taken away from them because the SEC said that which the Big 10 actually allowed one game and the ACC when are they going to get their rematch at home versus Texas there are a lot of different things here Joe that they could have done we wanted to see these big big- time high-profile games Joe to be honest with you I I mean I there are a lot of games that you could pluck I mean when's Missouri gonna go uh um to Alabama there are a lot of things that you could look here and say well they got Alabama this year but you you know what I mean yeah there are just so many different things that could have happened here that I think that they missed on like re massively missed on now I know that you know you're just flipping it so it makes it a little bit easier and you can get a home and a away and that might be how they do it and then in 2026 you have a whole new schedule and then they'll flip it in 2027 okay it is what it is but the point that I made earlier and that you alluded to you announced this year's schedule like 2024 schedule in June of last year what why are you announcing that you're just slipping it now like you gave yourself until June now is there reasoning behind that that school administrators ads presidents were saying well hey look are we going to eight or nine games that was also something that the SEC announced was that they're sticking to the eight game conference schedule and then they'll punt it to a later date but the SC highly asked that team play Power five in the noncon so everything was talked about here and we're they're staying with eight games which quite honestly I don't really have a problem with I know that other conferences play nine it is what it is but the problem that I had with this was you made a decision okay you could have changed up the schedule the the ads and the confer in the presidents of these universities aren't saying that they don't want to go to Texas they're not saying they don't want to go to Alabama what they're saying is okay hey we would actually love to play a team that we hadn't played yet I mean this was the ultimate reason Joe that Greg sanki said why we did away with divisions was mainly due to the fact that everybody gets to play each other home and you know where if you didn't play this opponent a lot like LSU never goes to Georgia never like I God forbid I I don't remember the last time that we've been to Sanford Sanford field so there comes a point Joe that you got to ask yourself the question like if this is what sanki has done sanki has said so many things that he has not delivered on and and I I think it's going over everybody's head because maybe just due to the simple nature of that he's got so much on his plate now I will I think you're right in a sense when you said earlier that we should defend him in reference to he's got a lot on his plate but it doesn't excuse when you're making over $4 million a year year okay like if we're going to hold coaches to standards oh they get these big salaries will the conference Commissioners get a freaking healthy salary too so it's just lazy so you I I want to take this step further what you're talking about the laziness aspect of this so when we I I I know that it is a little controversial to compare college football to the NFL but as these conferences grow in size 16 teams is enormous it is a very big conference I think that we have to throw out the typical notion of college football that you have to play a home and home with an opponent I I think that that is such an archaic old approach that we're so used to seeing in college football because it has lasted for decades when everybody actually centuries back when every most teams were independent and that they would just cycle around picking new opponents from across Ross the country in different parts of the country in order to get more exposure I think that once you get to 16 teams there does need to be more cycling I look at the NFL where you have the teams in your division that you have to play twice in a season but typically you'll go play across another Division and you don't get the opportunity the following year to play at home if you played away when you faced that opponent so I I I'm in your in in the boat here with you where it just kind of feels like they're used to the same scope of of college footb scheduling that they wanted to stick to that I would really like the opportunity and more cycling of some of these teams they were deliberate in the whole pod system where you know you have the same common opponents every single year those team doing that in baseball yeah they're they're legitimately already they're doing the Pod system somewhat in baseball but that was an you remember how this was that was announced last year that where there's like these common opponents that they have to play every single the closest opponents that you're closest to yeah it maintaining the historic rivalries was the was the whole argument but a him ain't a historic rival to us uh Arkansas isn't a historic rival to to Oklahoma baseball I mean it's a it Joe can we can we can I give you a hot take yeah Greg Ski's two biggest bugaboos scheduling being fair to some to specific teams and officiating and he doesn't get called out for it because of the current landscape that he's in Jo are you watching some of the are you watching Mar March madis they had a sec crew okay that almost blew the biggest call in March Manis history actually they did blow it the uh who was it um god dog Sanford s the kid from Sanford got the block you do know that that was an SEC officiating crew yeah yeah so it it goes to my point that I think two things can be true at once I think that he has doing a fantastic job but there are things like scheduling and officiating he's got to clean up he's I mean like now we're talking about onfield like Joe what has happened here here's here's the hot take because off the- field issues has taken more of his time onfield issues has taken somewhat of a backseat officiating and scheduling well okay so here's the as much as we can gripe about those issues I would argue if I'm a college football fan of one of these teams in the SEC or just any college football fan I I would rather my conference be the best at all of the other categories which is quality of play on the field qual you know competitiveness between opponents can I stop you right there what has he done for quality of play go going and adding Texas and Oklahoma is a really good example of okay I see what you're saying that's my fault I thought thought you me like never mind I understand I understand the issue that you're bringing up I just think that it's not the NFL where there's unlimited amounts of resources because of how massive and enormous of an entity it has become the SEC is steps below that before it can ever get to that point in order for sanki to improve the sport he needs to focus on other things and I would argue some of these other crappier conferences spend way too much time focusing on the unimportant things instead of figuring out how to ADV Advance the game and Greg sanki does that that's where I at least like I'm if Greg sanki was [ __ ] all the way around we could sit here and and really give him a hard time but because he's so Progressive in changing yeah I know I know okay I'm just saying that because he's made so many other massive changes and been Progressive and getting ahead of resolving football college football's bigger issues I'm kind of okay with this not being his top priority I don't I'm not saying I'm not asking it for I'm not a so I'm not why you should hire someone to he should he should do a better job hiring people to handle this I'm not asking this to be his well I am asking officiating to be his top priority it's getting it's getting way too it's getting way too chaotic with SEC officials and umpires it's getting way too bad all right that is a massive concern so even something that happened today in a baseball game then a guy got thrown out Joe he hits a walk-off Grand Slam he throws his helmet up in celebration when he's Crossing on plate they tossed him they threw him out they threw him out of the game after he had to walk off Graham slam because he threw his helmet up when he's about to touch on plate that that's that's my point it's been all around now the last thing I'm gonna say this because I want your thoughts on uh them sticking to eight conference games I could make an argument it's not a good one okay but I could make an argument that Greg sanki not like allowing the two-minute warning okay like allowing the running clock is just as it was just as a bad of a move as getting Texas and Oklahoma into the league wa why because what you told what you've told me is okay we need a shorten the games that nobody asked for we need a two-minute warning which adds 10 minutes of game time back for the 15 that you took from me okay so basically what he's doing right now at least what he's showing me right now is Greg sank is doing this he's got his hands out like a Catholic priest okay he's asking for the offering he's asking for the money I'm not trying to make a joke here I'm serious I mean he legitimately every move that he has made made over the last year has been more about money and generating money more than it has been on the field he's got to get better for the SEC for the for onfield play you can't have these things continue to go on as someone who covers the conference it's been abysmal now let me ask you this question okay the SEC St is staying to eight conference games what are your thoughts I think it's better for them as a conference to stick to eight because of how competitive all of these team schedules are going to be even though some are going to be lopsided compared to the others it's better for them to play non-conference opponents however I do think that there needs to be a stipulation and a motivation for SEC teams to do a better job of scheduling as many power five opponents as possible I'm not asking for everybody to schedule Michigan and everyone to schedule Ohio State and go after those types of teams you can schedule a Purdue you can schedule uh a Minnesota or a UCF those are fine I just I get irked when I see some of these programs schedule two FCS opponents like there is no shot in hell that an FCS opponent is going I don't think I don't think any SEC team other than VY has done that someone did it last year somebody but if you're scheduling even if if you schedule you shouldn't schedule a G5 and an FCS opponent you shouldn't schedule more than one G5 opponent Notre Dame has also done this so I'm not saying that like my teams are not guilty of this I would like to do away with scheduling these useless one of them is all you need you don't need more than one I don't understand why and we talk about how these networks want to get more money out of these teams and these conferences encourage them and motivate them to schedule more competitive matchups I I just I just hate the amount of low-level opponents that are on some of these team schedules I understand what you're I understand what you're saying but let me let me tell you what I know for a fact has been the counter act in that example Kentucky says why do we need to play eight I mean why do we need to play nine when we have Louisville and then the beginning of the year we're already playing another Power five opponent so we have well they're a good example of doing the right thing because they have a historic rival that's in another conference so they're already checking that box but that's the point they don't want to have to play 12 or 11 or 12 um Power five opponents now they won't do that they've been horrible at scheduling in the beginning of the year my only point in all of this Joe quite honestly it's pretty simple okay I don't think it's created equally and I never have and I quite honestly have never understood people griping about what we play play nine conference games y'all play eight yeah I don't think that's the issue no it's been the issue well people have made it an issue but I personally don't think that it it should be the issue that's no well the reason that this is being brought up the way that it is is because other conferences have an issue with it right you're playing nobody's it doesn't right and so that's my point I don't get I don't I mean Joe the the power programs in the SEC Georgia um I forget who Georgia plays in the beginning of the who does Georgia play in the beginning of the year um of this upcoming year yeah is it Clon yes they do play they go out a conference and play Clemson uh Alabama goes to Wiscon goes to Wisconsin well so like that's a good example of a like a not a super difficult matchup and it's it's a just a competitive football game but let me the top programs have done this A&M's got Notre Dame LSU's got USC and UCLA the top programs have done this so let's not sit here and act by the way just so everybody remembers I'm old enough to remember when the SEC made it cool to go play in neutral sight games okay it was the SEC that made it cool to go play neutral sight games and play more than eight or nine conference or power five opponents and by the way when the SEC went to 10 in the co year nothing changed Alabama still waxed your ass okay okay did they not they did they did but if they're so good why are they you know why why do they have to last year schedule USF Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga is three of their four non-conference games like for LSU In fairness In fairness to Nick let me give this let me give this to Nick Nick has said come come get you some oh and by the way they also scheduled Texas they yeah that's understandably they did and went there last year not this past year but last year Alabama everybody uses Alabama as they don't play Nobody [ __ ] please I I'm not trying to imply that I'm just look they're an example and again this is not me saying this strictly targeting the SEC I I'm tired of everybody across multiple conferences doing this where they scheduled these nothing opponent I just having played in these buy games before like I played at Virginia Tech I played at Kansas those games do nothing for either team except give a a paycheck to the FCS school I don't understand how that actually prepares your team for later on in the season I know that it helps you get through reps and get young guys on the field correct but it also generates a shitload of money for other smaller programs which nobody is accounting for so for example Joe we both played at the FCS level Rhode Island and Southeastern Louisiana both generate their athletic budgets based off of that one game yes but why what playing one of them is fine that's what I'm getting at here playing one of those games is fine why are there consistently three games on a lot of Team schedules where they play two g5s and an FCS program I SCH I I I I don't think that the SEC is backed down from anybody I I'm not particularly again I'm not calling out the SEC for this I'm just saying it kind of sounds like you calling them out saying that they're soft and scared no no no that's not what I'm doing I'm just saying I'd like to see some more competitive matchups I'm tired of the you asked about the aame schedule thing and I'm saying that eight games is fine with me as long as you schedule competitive opponents in in power for conferences let me tell you something when Southern University went to LSU okay across town and that the best band College ban in America okay hits the field and they're playing neck and and 100,000 people stayed to watch their halftime show it's more electric than Vandy coming to town that's great they played they that's their one cheap buy game a year and then go schedule you no but what I'm saying is what was what I'm trying to say is there are some teams in some power five conferences I would rather take a nap during the game and go watch a G5 team that has some validity to it to come in Joe would you rather would you I mean when Ruckers didn't have Greg giano they were a joke yeah they were terrible okay so the the bottom line is there still wait wait they still have more there they still have more Talent than if they Joe the only reason you know where Ruckers is is because you're from the state nobody else knows where Ruckers is in the entire country stop come on most people know where Ruckers is you can't be a college Athletics fan if you don't know where Ruckers is you know why a lot of people probably do know where Ruckers is why because uh because of The Sopranos they robbed the uh they robbed the play and I want to just add this in before we do move on I I do I do find it comedic that Florida look they're firing Billy Napier we've already talked about this like unless there's some rapid turnaround they're probably going to get rid of them I I find it very funny that theoretically this actually maybe their schedule's not as easy as I thought it was they only have three in 2025 they only have Florida has Florida has the hardest schedule maybe in college football's history yeah they they have to go to LSU Old Miss and Texas A&M Georgia's neutral site and they only got handed three home games compared to some other programs they got four because they lose that Georgia game as a as a home game I got distracted I don't know why I thought that that was easier easier than it was dude dude I mean bottom line bottom freaking line here okay for me the SEC won't back down anybody the dudes are continuously playing I mean Joe the like LSU is playing two big 10 teams that's what they should be doing that's what I'm saying I think that we we need more examples of prog that's not anything new it's nothing new La last year LSU played Army Grambling and Georgia State as three of their nonc cons and Michigan the national title winner didn't play dick during the season and played nine conference games yeah and I I think that's also problem I'm not comparing conference to conference I'm just saying that these big these big programs for some Reas first off tell other programs and other conferences to do it too H that's what I'm saying that's why I've said that play Navy what are you talking Navy is a rival or not L I literally brought Notre Dame up as saying that they are also guilty of this and they need to stop doing it yeah just worry about beating Marshall next time yeah all right uh Trevor Etienne let's get to this Trevor ATN thing really quickly don't really want to spend too much time on it but Trevor at was arrested over the weekend for a DUI Joe which brought back the question from on Kirby on some of the things and issues that he's had with players in his program I'm just GNA say what I'm GNA say but I'm not I'm not trying to go down this Rabbit Hole he did get arrested I okay here look last time we talked about something related similar to this we talked about is he is he lacking control of his program I I took the bait last time oh boy did you I did I did I did and I'm not gonna do it again I I I have thought this through enough Trevor eten was a transfer he's only been there for I think 90 days is what somebody said something along those lines this doesn't mean anything to me this has no relation to character concerns of players that go to Georgia this has nothing to do with Kirby lacking control over his roster and and helping these players develop I Trevor etm made a stupid mistake he's probably GNA get suspended for a game or two that's the extent of it A game A game A game A game all right three game probably three games probably three games Joe he won't even get suspended oh you think that he's not going to get suspended at all for getting a DUI if he does if he does get suspended okay that's a problem he needs to get suspended for three games he got a DUI three games yes okay you have to hold some accountability for your program curvy did not go where I thought it was G to go okay well first off let me just let you in on a little secret uhuh I'm old enough to remember that Nick sabbin his mentor had a player arrested with a pound of weed a pound incoming fresh incoming no no no no no no no 10 years ago oh oh yes yes yes yes when weed was not as thought of like it is today okay he didn't get suspended Nick said and I quote and I will always remember this we handled the matter internally see that's a problem it's not a problem okay you know wait wait you know who Okay I I I won't go there it is a it is a it is a problem I will it's a problem a certain head coach that you love Brian Kelly the first example that I thought of was when Michael Floyd was arrested for a DUI way back like 10 10 or so years ago and he was suspended at Notre Dame all I'm saying is that I I'm not worried about any of this stuff for Georgia fans like again I'm not worried that he's not that Kirby's has some sort of issue with with his guys and the guys in the locker room I I don't think that's the case but he probably should be suspended I don't think there's anything wrong with that to send a message to everybody like hey guys like we need to lock in Trevor made a mistake he's he's acknowledging that he made a mistake he's gonna sit out a game two three games and then we're going to hit the ground running after that and please don't get in any more trouble Joe he won't sit out three plays well that's dumb let me just say let me say this Trevor atan likely would sit out three plays before he'd sit out three games I'm just I'm just being honest they're not again okay can I well let me just say this what coaches normally do is say you know innocent till proven guilty that's that's fine and dandy okay I agree when it it's happening over and over again in a specific University yes there can be said there there may be an issue a lack of control though is a bit far when you had the greatest of all time religiously getting the having the same Joe it it's Bama it's Bama in Georgia I mean that's why I will never go that far I I don't I think that that is the ultimate extreme it absolutely is but I also like Kirby needs to punish him he this is by way why you bring back to Brian Kelly because that was the first example that I I was trying to think of him a most recent example not a most recent but an example of a player who was arrested for a DUI and one that stuck in my head because I remember it was you know I was in Middle School and Michael Floyd got suspended for the DUI that he had like that was devastating for me as a middle schooler because I was like we need Michael Floyd on the field did you cry that's no I didn't cry shut up but Brian Kelly was willing to suspend his players and I think that that is it's a serious it's a Ser wait it's a serious a arrest a DUI is a serious arrest and and and for Trev and also for the Georgia roster those guys need to understand that doing something like that is unacceptable okay I mean I I don't I can't disagree but the problem until you have like some form of you like to say all the time a collective bargaining agreement not shit's going to change I don't think that's related I mean guys get suspended all the time no because there's not an what's an enfor who's going to enforce it school what school Kirby or not the school Kirby would but what I'm saying is like for example if when Ray Rice did what he did God God forbid the Ravens weren't the one that suspended him the league did and they they do they get to do that because they have a collective bargaining agreement yeah but like how many guys did you play with that got suspended for getting into trouble like Joe in the last game in our rivalry game versus Nicholls we had 52 players suspended for a massive bar fight massive so that was a violation of Team rules yeah we well first off 52 players should never be suspended not not all 52 of us were fighting okay just because I try to kick somebody in the head like like meaning like you know like UFC style not like he's on the ground kick him and I fell down and missed doesn't mean try to karate kick somebody in the head I tried to karate yeah I tried to karate kick somebody in the head God I wish I was there for that oh trust me buddy well it was our quarterback I mean the bottom line was is that dude was trying to fight our quarterback in the entire offensive line just started throwing hands Mamas and babies in the club shaking their tail feather were didn't stand a chance not not to rehash your um your college incident because I think every a lot of colle FCS program seemingly have one of these because we the same thing for us I again I'm not I don't want to like harp on like he he needs to be punished I just I think in general the main talk takeaway from this is like we we we don't need to read into this that George's got a problem you know like Georgia doesn't have an issue this is a kid who transferred in just recently this isn't somebody recruited this is not somebody who has been coached by Kirby for very long or has been instilled the um what's the word I'm looking for the focal points of of character development and all that stuff from from Kirby this has nothing to do with him it was a bad decision my Trevor etan's part it's not related to the Jordan football team can I can I say one last thing about this what's let me ask you this question what's worse Baker Mayfield running away from the cops and being tackled by the cops from behind was he suspended I don't think he was I mean that's you know actually wait wait no no I would argue driving running from the cops wait wait wait wait running from the cops is bad but you're not threatening anybody's life by running the cop running from the cops you're threatening the cops life that's fair but there's more way more damage that could be done from driving drunk than there could be from just trying to evade the police but I mean both are equally bad I don't think one's worse than the other I think Baker Mayfield being caught by a cop that runs a five flat is much much worse all right right I wait he did he did get suspended for how long wasn't it like he got suspended for how long how long I wait this says I know that you've read it and you do not want to say it how long it was a drive he was suspended he was suspended for a drive who would have ever thought that that was what happened three games for a if we need if we get a collective bargaining agreement there needs to to be a better job of punishing guys for doing stupid things Rao and Joe show is brought to you my bad sometimes you just can't do that now I do mean to do it all right we got one La last topic that we need to get to here about JJ McCarthy but let's talk about good friends over at home Phil dep perel if you're a Michigan fan why don't you go on over there use the promo code rafino or if you're an Oakland fan I mean HomeField apparel.com and get your college gear JJ Mccarthy [Music] today Joe you NFL guys continue to tell me that that sound right there is something that JJ McCarthy is going to hear very very early in the first round so let's discuss on it so JJ McCarthy who I kind of already on at least on Tik Tok went a little bit viral for in my ti raade um I'm going to continue to say what I'm going to say but I will give you the floor first on why JJ McCarthy arguably one of the worst quarterbacks in this draft why some people believe that he is worthy of being a top five pick please God tell me why you think he's worthy of being a top five pick I I don't think he's worthy of being a top five pick look the reason why I want to talk about this is and it was by the suggestion of Eric Weinberger thank you for suggesting that we talk about this the NFL World NFL analysts have run rampant with this watching his film and freaking out and well they may have watched The National championship game most NFL fans are not as hyperfocused on college football as we on the show are and most college football fans that follow the show are we know how good or bad JJ McCarthy is but the perspective of the NFL folks for some reason is so goddamn far away from where we are in our interpretation of him go listen back to the way that we've talked about and I especially have talked about my concerns with JJ McCarthy in terms of consistency with accuracy and and also just general natural decision making for a quarterback look at the end of the day he's going to end up being a top 10 pick because we go down this situation here with the NFL where they're desperate for quarterbacks and if you miss out on the top three guys in this year's draft you don't want to be the one that's sitting there waiting and missing out on your guy because you weren't aggressive enough to trade up but Blake plain and simple I mean we watch the guy basically not get pulled but we watch the guy get completely removed from the offensive equation a number of times this year in important games where they just said we're gonna run the football JJ if we need you to throw it we'll call on you when you need it to do so Penn State's the perfect example is that really a guy that you want running your franchise well they said he was hurt remember during the season they bashed me because they said he rolled his ankle that he was hurt and all this kind of stuff joke here's the B the bottom line truth this is why I hate not you but and loathe some draft NFL people majority of them even GMS have absolutely no idea what they're doing or what they're seeing none and some of this comes down from owners too because they want a franchise quarterback there's a lot of panic from the fan base like for example the Vikings might be moving up they may take JJ McCarthy taking JJ McCarthy in the top five is the worst I'm talking about the outright worst move that you can make unless you have a very very strong running game and he's not the feature yeah you know what he may be you know what he may be uhuh he Walmart Great Value version of Brock py I don't agree with that comp I I think he's Ryan tanah Hill that's who he can be Ryan tanah Hill that's it that's the that's the nicest I will Bey worse I just don't think that like physically that makes much cuz cuz they're both 6 to Brock pry 6 foot uh JJ's 64 JJ McCarthy ain't no 6'4 if if he's 6'4 63 okay 63 so in truth he's 6'2 at the end of no at the end of uh six2 and a half at the NFL com Brock 6 foot look okay well to highlight this there is a reason why he is projected as a highly draftable guy is please tell me there's nothing he showed on fil he has all of the tools that you look for in a franchise wait wait but wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait I understand that you're gonna you know pull the whole Anthony Richardson thing this is my my argument is I was even thinking about Anthony Richardson Anthony Richardson was a was at least a natural playmaker who in some instances took over games when nothing was working he he single-handedly won them the Utah game with the way that he played and him just barreling over those Utah Defenders JJ McCarthy has never done that is he big strong and able to throw on the run and have a big arm yes sure those boxes are checked but the natural decision making that we see from guys like Drake May and Jaden Daniels is not there for JJ McCarthy and that's what I think is overlooked and why us as college evaluators and just college football analysts we watched the same [ __ ] every single week with JJ McCarthy the same goddamn thing where he throw the ball like 25 times and then they ran the ball the whole time there's no impact why do I just feel like he's this year's will Levis I don't think he's gonna fall though but he is I mean he in a in a similar way he is just like will Levis where he's getting overhyped and and if you want to talk about tools will lvis has more tools than JJ McCarthy does yeah far more tools Joe here's the bottom line truth y last year that people were comparing him and putting him in conversations with the Heisman the truth was I don't even think he's the was the best quarterback in not only I guess this NFL draft class I don't think he was the best quarterback maybe in his own conference I'm trying to the who we could we would give that too not not k m uh d no I don't know if I give that to Drew I don't know who he would say would was better than him I I'm going to throw at a stupid stupid hot take you know who Moved their offense more with less around them who the tag OFA kid I knew you were gonna say that I mean are are we being honest no I don't I can't agree with that I can't I can't that he did he was it here's the truth they would have won a national title with Alex orgy oh I don't disagree with that I think they they absolutely could have could have won he's lost in more games than he's ever won them multiple times even against Washington Joe how did they beat Washington it's not him throwing the football it has been His Highest success has been the result of teams overly aggressively trying to stop their run game and then opening up an allevia passing Lan I keep coming back to and this is probably the the pin in the in the whole discussion we were even when we were leading into the national championship game saying that JJ McCarthy was a concern that in the Rose Bowl the first drive the most simple procedure for a quarterback is throw the ball out of bounds he threw it which should have been and could have been picked off if Caleb DS's feet were in bounds yes that that is inherent to me he makes the easy things so much harder than they need to be that's why it doesn't make any sense ass arm why couldn't he throw the ball out of bounds on that play I he I just I don't think he knows how to use his tools that's the whole takeaway here I don't think he's got any better to Jo Joe are you a th% sure he's got better tools than b Nick yeah he's got a bigger arm than Bon Nick he's not a better a bonick is a is a very he's painted as a bad athlete but he's not I mean B is a very I know he's not a bad athlete let me ask you this is he better than Michael Pennock he's a better athlete than Michael pennx Michael P I don't give a [ __ ] about the tools of being an athlete Michael penck struggles to throw the ball over the middle of the field so I can't really commit to saying yall said the same thing about J about Jane Daniels then an account named ays Sports came out and showed that he had 107 uh throws across the middle and he was at 79 Michael Pennock very clearly struggles to ball throw the ball over the middle of the field that was why I agreed with you about Jaden Jaden made no sense Michael Michael penck says okay well that's fair I've never I've never really seen I haven't broken him breaken him down but I mean just it's idiotic to me but you bring up you bring up a good point though because like the tools are good but they're not like Far and Away he's not like this crazy gifted tools yes he's not this crazy he doesn't have the big arm he's not he's not going to run a 44 he's not Shifty in the pocket enough in my opinion okay he moves up well I think he was coached well but if you're gonna talk about a guy like okay if you're gonna draft draft a guy on the top five and say its tools he better run and look like Anthony Richardson he better be a to throw like JaMarcus Russell okay because if he doesn't he's going to be a bust he is a bust and I'm going to tell you another one before we get out of here so is Caleb Williams oh no no that was that's a stray why are we doing this why okay is a bust Caleb Williams is landing in the best first overall pick situation that we've seen in the past like 20 years he's he's Landing in a spot with a with a strong offensive line Andrew Look says hi their offensive line was dog [ __ ] he got the [ __ ] kicked out of him in it forced him into retirement well that that's fair okay but do you think he's going to a team that is Keenan Allen DJ Mo good offensive line a great def def aent Keenan Allen I I don't know man Caleb will all what 35 you want to we you want to do a segment on Caleb Williams tomorrow I will gladly we should talk about Caleb Williams if you want to do it I think we should talk about Caleb Williams okay hold on I got somebody who agrees with me hold on oh is bang gonna come in here and disagree yes I don't know if who who he's bringing in here we're on a show so I had somebody that agrees with me Joe oh come on she doesn't do you baby Joel first off hey hey she's of course gonna agree with you you believe that Caleb Williams is a bust say yes say no say yes okay don't don't say anything at all see she she's baffled by the the fact that you brought up this question bye by Kayla Willams is a bus right what what all right she disagrees with you see that backfired would not in the direction that Blake thought that was gonna go come on Common Sense prevails here Williams is a bus yes or no say no okay that's [ __ ] he can speak for himself love you I wish I had a peanut gallery to bring onto the screen to to support me the way that you do he been agreed with me yeah yeah that must be nice he just agrees with whatever you say 1,000% give him 10 years he'll start disagreeing with you I me disagrees with me every day now so all right we'll back tomorrow Caleb Williams tomorrow we're gonna talk about Caleb oh I'm G to I'm going to vomit see you'all tomorrow man peace
