this storyed house has seen some of the games great BOS Bradford Peterson and St welcome everyone to Norman Oklahoma and the palace on the Prairie Home to the Oklahoma Sooner what a game and what potential drama we have in store you've seen this script before top 10 team goes into a cauldron of emotion on the road and just hope to be able to get out and tell about it as we'll see the number six team in the country the Alabama Crimson TI taking on the 14th rank team in the land the Oklahoma Sooners for EA Sports College footall I'm Rees Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's te this one up the Sooners will put total Lea and we'll get started from inside his own 15 let's see how far he can get just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 so the Alabama Crimson Tide offense will take the field for the first possession of this game and there he is a man who makes an entire Stadium hold its breath every time he touches the ball Jesse this defense better have a lot of breath in this game too cuz he gets better as the game goes on he's the kind of guy David who can wear a defense down and he is the primary focus that's what this defense is focused and key in on we got to stop him if we're going to have success today you know sometimes even a short game like that can be used to set up something bigger later on no doubt Reese they can pump that and take a shot down the field and don't worry they're going to go back to that same play cuz they know this guy with the ball in his hands is dangerous he makes one guy Miss he can take it to the house unloads to the wide out and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense this crowd going to try to make life miserable for these guys on third down going up top on the Run still looking fighting off the defender they make the stop but what a job on the scramble to get loose and pick up that first down man that's so frustrating and it happens so fast he just pulls it down it looks like pass he pulls it down and he's gone just like that chewing up yards so much speed so hard to stop Alabama comes to the the line with first and 10 used the play fake now to throw caught on the outside it's brenis and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one not difficult not complicated but early in the game get in that Rhythm find that timing with your wide receiver so you're set up for Success then you go attack deep later on this offense has a second down play quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver he's there to make the Stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play got to give the defense credit watching film anticipating they knew that this offense had this play in their back pocket they knew about the speed of this wide receiver and different ways they were going to try to get him involved everybody on defense on the same page playing together I love it the quick out and he was not down immediately short of the line the game they'll have to make a decision here and I love the discipline on defense right there big third down so everyone keeping their eyes on the quarterback rallying to the ball making a tackle great team defense the Crimson TI will bring the punt team on the field he'll try to really get into this one no return coming he'll call for the fair catch so Oklahoma's offense will take the field for the first time typically the last thing a defense wants is to have a backer on a wide receiver but we may see some of that today guys typically you don't see linebackers that can run like this guy and that's why they feel and the sack all the way back at the five this offense already in the black Zone a little bit backed up how do they want to respond they come out to throw the football be aggressive and this defense was ready and they got pressure on the quarterback and got a sack on the very first nown they'll come to the line and try to get out of this mess on second down from the five they go to the ground rumbles across the 10 down at the 12 yd line after a pick up of six and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with his pads now on Third and 10 if they can move the chains here maybe they can get this drive started looking downfield it's Arnold they're trying to get to it and they wanted it all on third down but now dealing with fourth down and offensively we know it's hard throwing the ball in third and long situations because the defense can play Big Zone coverages they got a lot of guys with their eyes on you so the QB had no shot there nobody open nice job not forcing it not risking a turnover just throwing it away fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way got to be extra careful in cold weather like this he'll signal for the fair Catch and make it between the snowf flakes makes the quick grab he's brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had it dra up well there was really nowhere to go for the quarterback with that football he's just trying to check it down to his running back and the defense was there and they made the play didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 he's looking to throw HS it down field and he had it for a second but he just dribbled out of his hands well man I mean you don't get more wide open than that right a big fella running down the field nobody near him quarterback puts it on him just got to make the catch better find the ear plugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass getting some heat and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes pretty nice as a defense right when you can go nickel put five DBS on the field and not have to Blitz anyone tting your front four to get the job done on third down and they do it right there getting the sack Alabama will bring the punt team on the field three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball and they'll get him down after the turn at the 27 yd line here come the Sooners ready to go on offense last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels the Sooners come to the line in the hurry up to the air it's Arnold he's got him in the flat they make the Stop and that will likely bring us to the end of the first quarter we've reached the end of the first quarter and it has been a defensive battle and the stats tell the tale so far let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm here in the second now this offense facing a third and long from their own 30 from the gun wants to pass and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes they'll tell you that somebody's always going to pop open but it didn't happen in time before they got the sack no it did not and you know what I'm going to remember this I'm going to remember zone defense they didn't really have an answer they weren't ready to get rid of the football quarterback hesitated I got to him and got him on the ground might be a good call later on in the game and the Sooners will try to pin them back with the punt doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the punt he's got great speed they'll put a stop to that return at about the 37 yd line here comes that Alabama offense boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here Pon yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive this offense lining up now at the 48 yd line on First and 10 they'll ride the the hot hand they knock him down right there it's an offense that takes pride in being physical they try to get it going on the ground but no gain on that one justes Nowhere to Run not a lot of wiggle room for the ball carrier this defense came in knowing that they had to match their physicality let's see if they can keep it up got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 wants to throw it's milro skips away from pressure and he avoids the hit and slides after the short gain well great job there by the defense because they weren't able to get him sacked right away but you saw the coverage in the back end nor for the quarterback to throw the football didn't get the sack obviously you don't get the negative play but you also don't give up a big one you're feeling pretty good about where you are right now in this dve decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass fires to the wide out got his Man Down field that is exactly what you're looking forward when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the Stop and this defense is going to have their handsful because they're going to need to be comfortable with guys one-on-one on islands in the perimeter of the field and they're just going to have to make better plays than what we saw right there they knew this offense was going to try to be aggressive got to need better effort in the back end for this defense moving forward from the Red Zone looking for a space he's got it on the Run they go up to to get it down to the 5 yd line as they try to pay off this drive I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone fast motion from the offense to the ground with the back he works his way ever closer all the way down to the Oney line and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down mark on first and goal let's see if Alabama can get it in the end zone they'll try to get it in with the run and he takes it to the house touchdown Crimson TI it gets closer and closer to the right here you know what's coming as a defense the off has to be physical and they were and the back knew exactly where he had to get to to get six lining up to attack one more onto that lead and the pat makes it seven nothing they took it 64 yds right down the field and they capped it off with a one yd punom about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown but see what he can get done from inside his own 15 needed just a little more help to turn that into a big return they'll Mark him down at the 29 here comes the Oklahoma offense the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play daveid and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum second down coming up to the air it's Arnold feeling some heat and the Freshman will CH up a sack referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming he'll keep it himself keeps the legs mov mov they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down oo I like that option play I'd keep running that too cuz it's obvious the defense right now is really keying in on this running back that was a big point of emphasis for them all week long in practice and it's opening up holes now for the quarterback to run offense rushing to the line of scrimmage clock has stopped for the first down they'll try to get it off quickly throwing right he's got it good pick up there as he gets the first down and they'll Mark him at the 48 this offense is just so dynamic because they've got Playmakers at all the skill positions right we just saw a big play in the running game now we see one in the passing game there's not one dude that you can key on here if you're on defense to try and slow them down wants to throw on first down catch in the middle it's Robert I say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form tackle that completion leaves us with second and medium he's looking to throw catch in the middle it's Roberts and that was some kind of collision between a couple of big bodies there and he stopped from getting the first down a nice job by the defense there tackling to catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situ situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do got it in the middle it's off he stopped almost immediately he didn't get much but he didn't need much they've got the first down and had they not picked up that first down it would have been decision time for the head coach right you're kind of in no man's land on the fridge are you trying a long field goal are you going for it on fourth down but because of the execution there and the nice throw let's keep this drive going let's see if we can get six yeah and a really good job by the defender understanding the ball's coming I got to break on it and go and not try to intercept it and make a bad play he swats it down and make sure that's an incompletion let's see what they've got on second down looking to throw it's Arnold gets open down the middle a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on third down he drops to throw grabbed in the middle it's Anthony he's got enough for the first down they'll spot him at the 24 yd line curl route seems simple but when you time it like that so it's right on him man that's a tough play to stop and give the receiver a lot of credit too because he knew where the sticks were he got his depth on the route and then he came back to the football all young receivers can learn from this guy right here come back to the ball and help your quarterback out we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half dialing up a second down pass play good job to avoid the negative play and just get rid of that thing and as the clock is winding down here in the first half they'll send out the field goal team splits the upright it's good and they'll Trot off to the locker room after the field goal to close the half that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our halftime update guys you've been calling a lively one from Norman so far and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top with that said let's send it back to the guys at Memorial Stadium ready to start the second half Alabama will kick it off look for an alley from inside his own 10 nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 quarterback on the keeper they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well they're trying to go option but the linebacker shows his open field tackling ability and also his recognition he expected the quarterback to keep it went after and was able to make the tackle for loss the Sooners are in to hurry up looking to throw it's Arnold and the pressure was too much they get him at the 15 the defense continues to have a great game both defenses has played well these offenses are going to have to change something up protect their quarterbacks a little bit better not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 he's looking downfield to throw using the back as a receiver on the screen you know I got to tell you as an offense moving forward in this game third and long you're going to have to push the ball down field a little bit more you got to throw to the sticks and give yourself a chance to convert these third Downs the Sooners will line up to PL it away he's going to try to flip the field with this one kicks it high and it's just hanging there as if it has helium in it and floating down toward the Earth the tide offense rolls onto the field the sledding has been tough scores have been at a premium G in every possession seems like it could switch the momentum of the game yeah re for this offense just feels like they just haven't been as physical and for this offensive coordinator David he's having to go deep into the Playbook just to try to generate a first down and the good thing is there's not a ton of game pressure because the other side's not scoring either but if you can find that one thing that get that one positive play and then maybe you get those juices going and something can start to build he tosses one high and deep down the left side side they've got the defense reeling right now with that big play to the 29 high flying pass catchers and the Crimson Tide that combination wasn't right at the top of your mind say 30 years ago no it used to be run run more run and you've seen over the years they've opened it up the Playbook and they've brought in dudes they've had some guys that can fly receivers winning Heisman Trophies like so many game breakers on the outside that make big plays in this offense slings it complete to the right he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down well the offense trying to attack the perimeter of the field in the passing game and how about the the sweet feet by the receiver on that play who doesn't like a little dash of the yarts with their football a little ballet moment there trying to cap this drive with the pass hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver that and that was good defense again and unfortunately we've been saying that all game long really really good defense or listen you can spin on the other side this offense has really been bad this crowd knows they have to bring it in big moments and one of those has arrived quick strike complete they've got it down to the three yd line really well done on that throw and catch that throw and catch a really good example of why coaches don't want a quarterback to get stuck on a particular Target isn't it David yep it's exactly right find the guy who's open because you got so many guys that have so much speed that can do so much damage on the field find my matchup get it to him let him do the rest trying to get to him just had to get rid of that one good job to avoid the loss and how nice is it to have the home crowd going absolutely bananas communication is harder the snapping the football everybody being on time man this crowd really affecting the football game now second and goal in right in the teeth of this noise touch pass on the run really nice stop there from this senior leader well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right is getting a full head of steam and he gets the ball he's looking outside David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate into the end zone he goes touchdown Alabama the offense flexes its muscle a bit and widens the Gap take a little exhale you know you did your job you got point now you put your defense in a position where hey go out and get another stop we're in great shape so the offense definitely taking care of their business they'll try to add another to their lead the extra point the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead that drive covered 57 yds for the touchdown and they capped it off with a one yd plunge lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive from inside the 15 chance for a good return maybe if he could have eluded just one or two more guys it would have been a big return but they'll mark it at the Third he'll do it himself pass the stick him still on his feet they finally get him on the ground with the big running play moves to change for the first down every time I see an Oklahoma quarterback get loose I know modern area think Jaylen Herz but I start thinking Jamal Holloway Thomas lot Charles Thompson guys who've been able to run it from that position for a long time Kyler Murray and the list goes on they had a run there of such great dominance at the offensive position specifically at quarterback and it's a it's a beautiful system I love that they continue to find guys that fit in it that they're going to run them they're going to throw them but either way it's always productive when you're in Oklahoma quarterback and the Sooners want to pick up the tempo on the ground it's Achu and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go how about the defender for being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions if every Journey begins with a step this offense needs to step into a third down conversion and then try to turn it into some scores and fast the give out of the gun lights off a Defender and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here and they will send a field goal unit out not for a big ask for a gargantuan ask so Alabama takes the lead into the quarter break they've done the work to build nice cushion now to bring it home as we check out the stats after three quarters not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the fourth and they're going to send the field goal unit out there to try to knock one in from the next time zone no no good my goodness you need those field goals guys to cut into that deficit we're still at 11 Oklahoma here comes that Alabama offense looking for a productive play on first down give to the bat not much working there it'll be second and nine BR up went to the running game on first down now here they come again looking to throw it's milro throws to the wide out and he was looking over the middle and couldn't make the connection that's where quarterbacks you know they got to be very assertive they got to believe what they see and really pull the trigger the longer they wait and they get off Rhythm or off timing a lot of times it ends up an incomplete process Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense they were trying to set up the screen they were trying to take advantage of this pass rush but man that Defender he beat his guy so quickly he just blew the play off looks as if the tide will putt it away three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bailed him out a Sky High punt and The Return Man is stopped and that'll leave it up to the offense on the next drive all right guys so here's the offense back on the field again they'll ride the running back and leave it with him I never know if it's grammatically correct to say A team's being out physical you hear a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it the Sooners in the hurry up the run to the right and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that yeah and this offense has to find a way to run the football they got to get more creative or whatever that looks like for this offense something that jump start them because nothing really going on the ground yeah defensively though you got to give them credit too because they knew that physically they were going to try to be challenged up front that was a big M Mo for this offense coming into it but the defense they've risen to the occasion their front seven has dominated this entire game he's going to let one fly down the middle and the ball is intercepted taking it the other way he's inside the 40 the 20 inside the 10 touchdown Bama how about that D coming up with a play like that number and that just might do it man offense needed points needed points badly defense comes up with the big interception takes it all the way back just to pad their lead a little bit and make this game almost almost Out Of Reach lining up to tack one more onto that lead and now with the extra point they're up by 18 here in the fourth that makes the score Oklahoma they're lining up to kick it off after the pick six and that defense will come out feeling it he'll start the return inside his SP not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 here comes the sooner offense back onto the field unleashes one fires a bullet now it's picked off nice job by this defense that might be the exclamation point for fourth quarter I got a lead you bring on the nickel defense you know they're passing the football for plays just like that to make the int and almost put this one away out comes the offense as they get set to take over they'll try the run a most efficient pick up of six on first down it's second and four man that's the advantage of having a good coaching staff that teach these players in this type of situation with the lead late in the game you want to stay in the field of play and keep the clock ticking they do that after that nice run got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four he want that clock to run they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down and you know big chunk like this don't happen unless you commit to the Run game you got to get those big boys up front into the game understanding I want to knock people off the football create some holes like you do here for my running back make the game easy they'll snap it from the 26 on first down he'll pull it on the read pass the sticks and he may get more they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the well this is one of the fastest quarterbacks in college football and that's why the option's a good idea because if he can get out in space and he has a chance to get down field he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as you saw in that last play getting a first down keeping it on the ground on first and goal he bullies his way all the way down to the 5 yd line second and goal coming up the run up the middle trying to power to the goal line touchdown tie and the route is on these guys looking to put the finishing touches on this game with that score yeah I think you feel confident that ends it right late in the game it would take a miracle for the defense to get back in it that Miracle is no longer coming now now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point gives him a 283 lead a very efficient five playay scoring drive and they punctuated it with a 5yd touchdown run they're just about ready to kick it away set to kick away on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 now the Oklahoma offense will go back to work this thing got out of hand on them but they'll try to finish with some pride here and this one was a beat down and there's nothing you can do about it because this one's over Jess now we got to start progressing for next week for the rest of this season so we don't let one bad game turn into two yeah there are very few teams out there that won't watch game film but they may want to skip this one I mean cuz it may hurt their confidence they just need to turn the page and get ready for the next opponent for get this day ever happen right through his hands and incomplete and he'll want that one back it'll be third down and this is just one of those days man where everything has gone wrong right like they just haven't been in a rhythm they haven't they haven't got it going and never built the momentum this is this is one of those days you learn from you try to grow from a lot of things that we're going to show in the film room that people aren't going to like but hopefully you can learn from it and do better next time coming after him he's right on target they immediately call timeout trying to preserve every second they can to try to rally here late these two guys just on the same wavelength they make clutch connections all the time and that's practice man that's all summer that's all spring just so many hundreds and hundreds and thousands of balls where you know exactly when that guy's going to break you know he's a stud you're going to feed him especially on these third down situations and this defense has put a game game together like it is hard to put all the facets of Defense together run defense pass defense they've been so good man dialed in you could tell they were ready they were fast they were physical they dominated this football game today he wants to throw it again and they got him for the sack and man is that a just indictment of the day your quarterback getting drilled late in the football game this offense has sputtered they haven't found any kind of good rhythm they haven't done things that that really gives your coach confidence and and makes you want to believe in them this offense has a lot of work to do before their next football game I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County on Third and long he'll have to turn it loose deep and this defense goes backto back sack Jack the defense puts the exclamation point on the day they have had a wonderful day man doing everything great just you could tell they were dialed into what was going on and now just throw another sack in the equation hitting the quarterback being disrupted they've been all over the field this is a long fourth down try but the offense stays on the field he'll try to throw and pick up up the first down the incomplete pass fourth down fails and they'll turn it over running out the clock a mere formality between them and a victory as we have Victory formation coming
