welcome to Monroe Louisiana Malone Stadium home to the ULM warhawks and fans have been getting ready for this one pretty much all week we're really looking forward to this matchup you've got a team that's made its way into the top 25 now trying to pass an all important rope test and the warhawks will get us underway with the opening kickoff he'll bring it back from inside to SP he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 so the Arkansas state Red Wolves offense takes the field for the first time today and this guy feels like a throwback back in the day the running backs always the Stars this guy fits that mole and he can do a lot of different things too he's not a one- trick pony this guy can Tote The Rock he can catch the ball he can block we might even see him throw the ball in this game this is a jack of all trades good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three they'll go right back to the Run wrestled down at the 32 after a pick up of five uh I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs the red wolves will snap it on First and 10 they go to the ground that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there sometimes people say if you're good enough what's the big deal about going on the road well if you're not careful you might find out in a spot like this one guys yeah no doubt about it this is a hostile environment and you know you're going to be getting the opponent's aame for this one they've circled this one all off seon so they better be ready to bring it today and the hardest thing to do in college football is to go on the road everything about it changes and you want to shut this crowd up early you want to give them belief cuz if it starts to build throughout the game look out on fourth down looking to pass got away from trouble and got rid of it the throw to the outside is complete and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs they'll try the left side find some fresh air slippery slide find his way and ran away from the crowd into the end zone touchdown Arkansas State saw a crease nothing but Green Grass and opportunity and he flashed through it for six and when you can get 30 plus yards out of your running back and he can make big plays like this man it's hard to call a lot of passes I'm just going to feed this guy The Rock he'll bring it out Davis not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 the warhawks offense has its first opportunity of the day as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job of them yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their Ed football teams regardless of which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like this leaves it with the running back brought down at the 25 after he picked up 10 and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down Mark still on his at the 40 he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down how many ways can I make you think right first drive out the gates get it to my playmaker going full speed across the formation with a touch pass you better be able to adjust to then when you adjust to it I'm going to have an adjustment to your adjustment because I'm always right I'm an offensive gu well this is one of the fastest quarterbacks in college football and that's why the option's a good idea because if he can get out in space and he has a chance to get down field he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as you saw in that last play getting a first down and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine all right well the offense here to trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point they'll run it to the right side and the ball free in the back field oh looks as if the defense got it man it was just the impact of the hit that dislodged the football from the ball carry there was a heat seeking missile coming in there and he knocked that thing loose Arkansas state has it ready to go to work on offense off the play fake on first down quarterback on the Move still looking he'll try to do it himself welcome to the frustrating reality of college football m the guy at the quarterback spot he can just do that pull it down get positive yards makes the defense have to account for him every single play got his man quickly and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there offense breaks the Huddle on third down to the ground to try to pick up the first and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains this offense is sending a little bit of a message here of course we know how much they've struggled on third down all season long they're just never able to seem to get into a rhythm but after that last running play moving the sticks you just wonder what that does for their confidence oh he left him grabbing ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds and the red wolves have their offense in high gear wants to throw on first down caught behind the line it's cross and oh did they know that one was coming they'll knock him down in the back field defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw and that one is picked off in the end zone and after the interception and the turnover this defense has set its offense up for business well coming into this game this offense knew that points were going to be out of Premium if you can't score touchdowns down here in the Red Zone you at least got to come away with field goals but you can't do that if you're throwing interceptions that's just poor execution by the offense into the pile maybe got one he stopped at the 21 listen the offensive coordinator's best frame in the red zone is the running game make guys commit near the line of scrimmage so I can throw behind this defense is good but I'm going to challenge them I'm I'm going to try to be the more physical team I love the play call and the quarterback caught up two and sacked the 12 playaction pass success has a lot to do with selling that fake you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm unloads to the right and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down the warhawks will line up to pun it away three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball [Applause] makes a move and the returner will be brought down Arkansas State ready to go back to work on offense that last Drive was a punch in the gut throwing the pick in the Red Zone Jesse yeah and it just seemed like there was some miscommunication down there in the Red Zone daveid this drive the qban receivers just have to do a better job being on the same page yeah and I think you pull the positives right we move the football down the field we had a chance to score but we can't let those opportunities slip between our hands let's go get some points get it out on the screen nice gain of six leaving them with third and four the number one goal as a defense is try to hit the QB as many times as possible try to Rattle him try to get him flustered a little bit nice job getting there getting the hit on him but nice job of executing by the quarterback taking the hit delivering the strike grabbed over the middle it's I man they make the and that'll bring the first quarter to a close that's the end of the quarter and Arkansas state is on top we've played one before we move on let's have a look at the [Music] stats heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the second they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first [Applause] down Ed the play fake now to throw and you just don't expect your Junior quarterback to get fooled and to throw it into double coverage like that let's see if they go back to the air on second and 10 from the 28 couldn't connect on first down now back to the air excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away a little less room to work with now the ball's at the 28 and it's third and long they keep attacking through the air throws to the wide out he's got it he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question where the quarterback was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks it doesn't matter what the coverage is and you saw it right there on that no game but you got to be creative right once you get near the goal line you got to try to get the ball in the perimeter as fast as you can so many big bodies come in the game you want to get the ball with some speed on the perimeter you gave it a successful tribe of the and makes the grab in the end zone touchdown red wolves look it's still early but we have some real distance being put on the scoreboard right now you do it's early but you got to find something positive right now everything going in the other direction so how are you going to respond when you've been hitting the mouth early in this football game got to find something positive quick Z he thought about bringing that out for a half second but he'll take a knee and they'll bring it to the 25 guys we'll see what this Warhawk offense can get done this time this is when the pressure can ramp up a little bit on an offense David when they start feeling the heat to answer a score and I think being down 14 you can kind of feel that way but dude if you put a good drive together this is a seven-point game so PA no need to pay I was just going to say David I mean this thing can flip quick you go down score all of a sudden your defense gets a stop or who knows better yet gets a turnover this game is entirely they'll wrestleing down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this one I think the OC would have been really happy with a small game and and an easier third down but how about the effort by the running back to get this close he he saw the first down marker tried to get to it got close enough now where it's an easy situation on third down and shoot and I got fourth out of my pocket if I want to go for it they'll keep this drive moving by picking up the first down they have it at the 36 and the warhawks come to the line with a new set of downs they'll leave it with him he breaks a tackle they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one all season long we've been watching this defense dominate against the Run they're the number one Rush defense in the entire country with a big lead in this game you cannot run the ball and expect to win and get back in it he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three great job a contained by this defense and in order to do that the end man on the line of scrimmage defensively has got to be able to set the point and force the football back into traffic that's EX exactly what happened there pressure coming he's got an open man that'll be enough for the first down and they'll mark it at the 48 well look that wasn't a touchdown that is a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback first well he comes up with the reception but not a lot of room to run after that yeah and I like the QB doing this I I'm going to find ways to give him the football and see if he can make a miss and I'm going to bet most of the time that my guy is a little bit more athletic than that defensive guy defense won this battle but I like trying to get this guy the ball in face really nice stop there from this senior leader and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell escapes the sack and the defense is there he got away for a second but not for long as they knock him down for a loss the warhawks will try to pin them back with the punt this will be the second time they've had to kick it away no return possible on this one it goes out of bounds and they'll mark it right around the 30 yd line you guys we'll see if this red wolves offense can get moving they've jumped on the mexic shooting at a high level and up 14 nothing David this is the exact start you want I mean offense is playing great defense has gotten stops you're in a position now Palmer to put the hammer down and get a three possession lead I'm really impressed with their physicality on both sides of the ball early in this one they've been winning in the trenches so here on offense keep running the football and show your dominance you know you start day one of training camp running your base runs you need a few yards you run these plays you need a first down you run these plays you rep them over and over and over again not sexy they're not pretty but in the end they're effective and they get you that new set of downs when you need them and that's why if you're the offensive coordinator you've got to find as many ways as possible to get this guy going just get him the ball close to the line of scrimmage doesn't need to be a throw deep down the field he's so Dynamic when he has the ball in his hands he saw it right there defense were always trying to get some tips you know break on the football get a tip get it up in the air nice job by the player breaking the football and force the incompletion quick strike complete he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short we be knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him involved early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into a way now well within Striking Distance as that third down play gets him a first at the 29 here's this offense with a fresh set of downs the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment he's going to pass and that one's incomplete worth taking a shot there but couldn't hook up well the quarterback knew where he wanted to go with the ball his intended target just wasn't open so the quarterback made sure he put that football in the stands and the incompletion brings up a second down now dropping back it's rer it's complete on the right side nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive [Applause] success he's got him along the sideline beautiful footwork for the first down and on that third and short I don't think he was UN happy to see that zone Noe was a great job by the offense hey see where the holes in the zone are sit down you only need a little bit of yards on this third down get the conversion move the sticks meets his connection they'll get him stopped just short of the end zone but they're in business here with a first down well the defense did a nice job taking everything away down the field but once the drag route was caught they just couldn't rally to the ball carrier in time to make a tackle and as a result you set it Downs a run up the middle is stuck for no game and the D Deni him on second and goal he'll take it himself and he Sprints to the end zone touchdown Red Wolves they've got the lead and trying to put this one in a hammerlock here in week 10 and the extra point is true and the lead balloons to 21 and let's check in with Kevin Conor's in the studio Kevin guys let's recap that ranked on ranked match up that has just gone final Stanford went on the road and just dominated and that's one way to grab attention on a national level make a statement in someone else's building and prove you're legit and did the Cardinal ever do that each week in college football the tests are just so tough and we found that out again today guys with another ranked team going down and Kevin Conor is keeping an eye on everything all over the country sounds like they had a good one there after the incompletion it's second and 10 from their own 25 grabs it in the middle the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage and the warhawks racing to the line in the hurry up [Applause] timeout is called and it's the defense wanting to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big down now facing a third and long give to the running back he's out past the 35 there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer the warhawks have it with a first and 10 [Applause] looking to move it through the air and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming you got to give the defense a lot of credit man because they've come into this hostile environment they've quieted the crowd down with some of the plays they're making they've got a nice lead right here and they're making it hard for this quarterback to go to work man he was open he had an opportunity just got to look that thing a lot of times guys are catching it and as they're catching their head start to turn to try to think about getting up field they just lose that concentration for a second little missed opportunity and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack the defense uses their second timeout of the half as they try to get their act together and the warhawks will call on their punt [Applause] team on the move it's Bryant he's got great speed really nice job all the way around got a few blocks made a couple of moves and a good return on that one before he's pushed out of bounds time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half they'll come out on this drive and let it rip that one will be incomplete and we are down to 10 seconds to go doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls Incomplete Back to throw it's rer fires to the Wi out got him down field finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down they'll immediately call timeout man this defense is so dangerous Rees they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels never a doubt they'll Trot off to the locker room after the field goal to close the half we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update fellas you've had yourselves one great broadcast so far today there in Monroe the red wolves will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half out of the end zone didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Monroe has it back on the offense ready to go to work when you're facing a deficit like this one to start the second half you really can't afford to waste a single possession fresh start here in the second half that's the only way you can look at this you're on and that defense gets to him and down he goes at the n and how about the strong safety on that BL great job timing it and also getting to the quarterback sometimes you're going to have to negotiate around tight ends and running backs and that strong safety he just beIN into the back field on second down he'll let it fly using the quick game Crow and brought down by the defense I really like this slot because of his shiftiness and you see that on his route run really really nice job creating separation for his QB and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late caught over the middle it's Griffin and he's to the 48 yd line that'll be good enough for a first down and I love the awareness by the wide receiver on that play because I'm not sure that route was supposed to be that deep you got to wonder if the receiver decided maybe to adjust the route a little bit to make sure that he got the first down he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three man it's been a surprise today for this offense like coming into the game we all talked about it we thought they'd be able to run against this defense that's been run on a lot and this offense just can't get the running game going be interested to see what they do to try to change it up but somehow someway they need that physical ground game well you hear all the time that the tight ends the QB's best friend you saw perfect example of it on that last play right second down you need to pick up some positive yards to keep this third down manageable really nice job of execut him now got a man it's Davis now they're really starting to threaten as they pick up the first down at the 34 yd line it's tough on the defense there third down you're in zone coverage everybody's watching the quarterback and you're trying to make a break on the ball but he just got it out of his hands too quickly and the throw was too accurate really nothing you can do there it's now fresh set of downend they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five and it is when we start getting those long yarded situations that's a really good stop by the defense Jesse they need a few more you've given up a bunch of yards on this drive a bunch of plays but all that matters is keeping them off the scoreboard yeah it's that bend don't break mentality you're seeing right now and this is the point where this defense has just got to lock in can't make the play on the interception and man they were looking for their first pick of the game instead it'll be fourth down here comes the field goal unit as they'll try to take the three never a doubt for this bigf footed guy 49 yd field goal is good so after the M field goal they'll kick it away and rely on their defense here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Arkansas state has it ready to go to work on offense they've got the lead here last time they set him for a field goal but David got to find that balance between being aggressive and careful and I think they'll take that I got the lead Palmer I got the football I got to take care of the football put a nice drive together and just get some kind of points on this drive no doubt lots to be happy about right now if you're this team I think for this one though on this drive it's about finding the one-on-one matchups that are in your favor and then exploit yeah and a really good job by the defender understanding the ball's coming I got to break on it and go and not try to intercept it and make a bad play he swats it down and make sure that's an incompletion to the air it's Rainer and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's incomplete and the red wolves decide to pun it away they'll look to pin him [Applause] deep and the punt will be marked dead just inside the 45 yd line guys we'll see what this war hawk offense can get done this time Jesse they had to kick a field goal the last time they had it yeah often times early in games you're just trying to find your Rhythm some things work some don't on that first drive dve it be interesting to see what happens here the second Drive yeah you got to feel for the defense now you understand what they're trying to do what their game plan is now you get to go into phase two of your game plan got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 he's looking to throw can't make the catch and it'll be third down he had that thing and just lost his concentration if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it gets open down the middle and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker the warhawks will bring the punt team onto the field looking for a block it's Bryant ripping through the defense was looking for more Running Room but found nothing nothing but more tackers he's down at the 24 Arkansas State ready to go back to work on offense off the play fake on first down wants to throw and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete after the misfire now on second down it's a draw into a mass of giant bodies we'll call it a one yd gain to the 24 they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one quarterback making adjustments with his receivers third and long and he'll try to throw for it he's going to take off at the 35 he's got ruined when you've been around like this guy has you know how valuable picking up the first down with your feet can be the red wolves come to the line with a fresh set of downs going up top on first down he'll off one deep down the left side and he makes the catch inside the 20 touchdown Arkansas State and the punishment has been extended man how hard is it to defend when you have a weapon like this at running back that can play wide receiver you can design ways to get the football in his hand Palmer once you get in his hands he'll do the rest yeah no doubt I mean and often times those are easier throws for quarterbacks these running backs they're just naturally so good when they have the football out in space their Vision their creativity their ability to make people miss and this guy shows you right there a difficult difficult guy to stop now after this defense being forel Monroe has it back in the offense ready to go to work boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really click no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here P yeah d bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three wide receiver coming across in motion the give to the tail back he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage that back had absolutely nowhere to run the football actually is he counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on defense on Third and short they'll try to throw for it got his man on the right a quick tackle made but he's got PL for the first down he might have expected to see this DB up in his receiver's kitchen instead nice little Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good Reese at seeing the holes in the zone knowing you're in zone knowing where to sit down how to make it an easy pitch and catch for the quarterback and that's what it was on Third and short and and as they get him to the ground clock running looks as if time will expire here in the third that's the end of the quarter and Arkansas state is on top and as we switch ends of the field let's take a quick look at the national rankings so will the beat down continue or is this a comeback for the ages in store we'll see as we start the fourth we'll start the quarter offense about to snap it on second down he's back to throw on second down just masterful working that side line and getting the toe down for the catch the offense has struggled they're not going to win this game but trust me this coaching staff is still trying to find things to build off of for next week and after an explosive play like that maybe maybe they can generate just a little bit of momentum and gain a little bit of confidence that they can keep coaching up heading into their next game can't make the connection in the defense putting on the heat and forcing the incompletion it's really hard to win football games when you're one-dimensional offensively and that's the case they just have not been able to get anything going throwing it deep down the field they haven't won their one-on-one matchups quarterback has missed some throws and as a result in the fourth quarter they barely have 100 yards passing why they're losing and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up you know and that's a route this offense practices all week long you really have to have great timing when you're throwing these out routes there's nothing a Defender can do on that one perfectly thrown well caught nice job getting his feet in oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down the offense came into this game knowing that for them to win they were going to have to make some big plays throwing the football that just is not been the case here in the fourth quarter they've been held to less than 200 passing yards and that's really the story of the game guys on fourth down they'll run it looking for the first they stop him short of the marker and they'll turn it over on Downs first down for this offense takes a hand off it's Hawkins a confident tough efficient run gets it up to the 44 yeah that's a great job by this off and I tell you what fourth quarter you have the lead that's exactly what you want to do lean on these guys run the football eat that clock and the red wolves are stopped but not before getting the first down well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play and they get just enough to keep the drive alive out of the gun the running back has it I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points the give to the back that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there will they keep it on the ground again here on third down quarterback reacting to what the D is showing dropping back it's Rivers shoots it to the left got his Man Down field now well within Striking Distance as that third down play gets him a first at the 29 the red wolves are marching down the field quickly complete he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in pre-nap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job following his hole getting positive yards keeps those legs churning for three yards he's down at the nine going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the End Zone on second down just keeps firing it falls incomplete he was trying to find his man for six a third and long here they can pick up the first down without getting the touchdown from the gun wants to pass they're trying to get to it and the heat gets there and they get him down at the 14 yd line and here comes the field goal unit for the second time tonight and he missed it no good because no game is perfect something has to go wrong so the coach will have something to grip about in guys we'll see what this war hawk offense can get done this time there have been a couple of missed opportunities for these offenses in the last couple of drives Jesse and I think for this offense here it'd be nice to hit an explosive play be aggressive and really pay off your defense's effort that last drive and instead of having to move the ball down the field consistently and then getting stopped on Fourth Downs you're right create some those explosives take those deep shots make those big play he's going to throw deep right side and it's caught inside the 30 he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go they say you could call holding on every play well they did on that one and here comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw fires to the big fella they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down it's so important that this offense is able to stay on schedule and what that means is keeping third Downs management that last completion to the tight end accomplished just that really nice play call they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here a deep throw as the clock winds down and it slips through his fingers inom complet that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it they're throwing for it on fourth down and it's incomplete a missed opportunity for the offense I think after failing on the fourth down guys you look at the scoreboard you look at how much time is left I think they're going to lose this football game this coaching staff is going to have to dig deep and try to find ways to get this team better next time they take the field and he doesn't find much Running Room a short gain on the play got three on first down it's second and seven the give as they work on that clock and he's tripped up but not before picking up the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of [Applause] downs they'll keep it on the ground to the right he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down now this team has consecutive wins and when you start expecting to find ways to win games and you expect that you will perform well enough to do so that's really hard to stop it's a mindset Reese this team has it right now you can tell their players trust each other big situations arise in games they're looking at each other in the Huddle on the sideline expecting to make the play that's going to help them win games this team incredibly mentally tough right now D and you start to build that mental toughness when you start to strain together positive weeks and you start to strain together positive plays now you know you can do it it's not we talked about in the off season oh we want to do this now you're starting to execute it and put it together on the field that's going to do it for us from here for Jesse Palmer David
