Nelly Korda, Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang headline Team USA women’s golf | Golf Today | Golf Channel

LOCKED UP AFTER THE KPMG WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP ON SUNDAY. THREE PLAYERS MEETING ALL RIGHTERIA. NELLY KORDA, LILIA VU AND ROSE ZHANG. THE U.S. WOULD HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER PLAYER INSIDE THE TOP 15 IN THE WORLD RANKINGS AND ALY EWING CAME AS CLOSE AS SHE COULD AT THE WOMEN'S PGA AND SHE'S 16th IN THE WORLD RANKINGS. >> WITH THAT, WE WELCOME IN GOLF CHANNEL CONTRIBUTOR, AND TAKING A LOOK AT THAT ROSTER REPRESENTING THE USE, WHAT STANDS OUT ABOUT THOSE THREE PLAYERS? >> A YEAR AGO WE WERE PROBABLY NOT EACH THINKING OF LILIA VU AND ROSE ZHANG AND THEY BOTH EARNED THEIR WAY IN. ANOTHER THING THAT WE HAVE TO LOOK AT HERE, VERY, VERY QUIETLY, THE UNITED STATES HAS TAKEN THE MANTEL AS THE DOMINANT POWER AWAY FROM KOREA. THEY ARE THE ONLY TWO COUNTRIES THAT QUALIFIED THREE. THERE ARE SEVEN AMERICANS IN THE TOP 25, JAPAN HAS FOUR, KOREA HAS THREE. SEVEN AMERICANS, YOU KNOW, WHO REALLY HAD A LEGITIMATE CHANCE AT ALL WORKING THEIR WAY UNDER THE TEAM AND IT MAY BE THAT MAKING THE U.S. WOMEN'S TEAM MIGHT NOT BE THE TOUGHEST TEAM TO MAKE. >> AS WE LOOK AT ALL OF THE PLAYERS AND 60 WHO ARE ON THEIR WAY TO PARIS, IS THERE A CONTINGENT FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY THAT YOU THINK COULD HAVE A GOOD GAME? >> WELL, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, THE KOREANS WILL ALL HAVE A BATTLE TEST. THEY HAVE THE EXPERIENCE BEING THERE. YUKA FROM JAPAN IS SOMEONE WHO HAS PROVEN A TWO-TIME MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER, AND I THINK THAT SHE'S SOMEBODY TO KEEP AN EYE ON THERE AND JAPAN IS VERY QUIETLY ALSO EMERGING AS A POWER IN ASIA NOW. AS I SAID, THEY HAD FOUR PLAYERS IN THE TOP 25 IN THE ROLEX RANKINGS RIGHT NOW. >> AMY YANG IS FINISHING UP HER VERY FIRST MAJOR WIN IN HER 75th MAJOR APPEARANCE AFTER SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS, OBVIOUSLY, FINALLY GETS IT AND YOU'VE COVERED HER THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HER JOURNEY OF FINALLY BECOMING A MAJOR CHAMP. >> I THINK THIS WILL CHANGE THE ENTIRE PERCEPTION OF HER RESUME. FOR A LONG TIME, 21 TOP TENS AND MAJORS AND THAT WAS VIEWED AS A NEGATIVE SORT OF THING, BUT NOW WITH THIS WIN YESTERDAY YOU LOOK BACK AT THAT RESUME AND LOOK AT THE GOLF COURSES WHERE SHE FINISHED IN THE TOP TEN, OAKMONT, CARNOUSTIE, AND EMFPIR FIELDS AND LOOK AT THE PLAYERS THAT WERE ON THE LEADERBOARD AND SHE DIDN'T WIN AND SHE WAS AT THE PEAK OF HER GAME, INBEE PARK, AT THE PEAK OF HER GENTLEMEN AND BROOKE HENDERSON AND NELLY KORDA. SHE HAS PUT HERSELF AGAINST THE BEST IN THE WORLD AND PROVED TIME AND AGAIN THAT SHE CAN COMPETE IN THE TOUGHEST SITUATIONS. I DO THINK SHE'S 34 YEARS OLD. I THINK THERE'S MORE TO COME FOR HER. I THINK HER BELIEF WILL CATCH UP TO HER ABILITY NOW. SHE HAS TO KEEP IN MIND THAT PHIL MICKELSON WAS ALMOST 34 WHEN HE WON HIS FIRST MAJOR AND HE ENDED UP WITH SIX. >> TALKING ABOUT NELLY KORDA AND THE HISTORIC SEASON THAT SHE STARTED AND ABOUT A MONTH AGO SHE'S NOT MADE A CUT INCLUDING TWO EMCEES AND MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP. IS THIS AN ISSUE, RON OR IS THIS JUST GOLF? >> THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING TIME FOR HER BECAUSE I THINK -- AND WE'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE, IT'S TOUGH TO GET TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN. IT'S EVEN HARDER TO STAY THERE WHEN YOU GET THERE. ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE ARE ALL THESE OTHER DISTRACTIONS COMING TO YOU FROM THE MEDIA, FROM SPONSORS AND THE TOURNAMENTS AND THERE ARE ALL THESE DEMANDS AND YOU HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO JUGGLE ALL THOSE BALLS AND IT COULD BE THAT SHE'LL REGROUP AND COME BACK OUT THERE AND START TO WIN AGAIN, BUT THIS WILL BE AN INTERESTING COUPLE OF MONTH STRETCH FROM HER TO SEE IF SHE REALLY, REALLY WANTS TO BE THE QUEEN OF THE HILL. STAY UP THERE AND KNOCK AWAY ALL OF THE OTHER PRETENDERS. >> THE LPGA COMMISSIONER MOLLY MARCUSE HAS A HABIT OF SAYING MEN USE MATTER WHEN IT COMES TO WOMEN'S GOLF. HOW DOES SAHALEE FARE AS A MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP VENUE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EIGHT YEARS? >> YOU KNOW, I WAS THERE IN 2016, AND THE THING THAT STRIKES YOU ABOUT THAT GOLF COURSE IS IT FEELS MORE CLAUSTROPHOBIC THAN IT REALLY IS, YOU KNOW? THE FAIRWAYS AREN'T NECESSARILY NEW. THOSE TOWERING PINE TREES MAKE IT FEEL LIKE YOU'RE WALKING DOWN A HALLWAY. I THOUGHT THE COURSE PLAYED SPECTACULARLY AND IT WAS JUST AN INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL THING TO LOOK AT. AGAIN, ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE VENUES THAT ELEVATES THE PERCEPTION OF THE WOMEN'S GAME BY THROWING THEM INTO A VENUE AND PRUF OVE THAT THEY CAN HAND ANY COURSE THAT IS THROWN THEIR WAY. >> WITH THE SCHEDULE PLUS THE OLYMPICS AND PLUS THE RACE TO THE CME GLOBE, WHAT'S THE STORYLINE AS WE START THIS SUMMER THAT YOU'RE WATCHING? >> WE'VE GOT THOSE TWO MAJORS LEFT. WE HAVE ST. ANDREWS AND ONE OF THEM WILL BE HOW DOES NELLY BOUNCEBACK FROM THERE? IS HE GOING ONE OF THE TOP PLAYERS OUT THERE. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT BOTH THE OLYMPICS AND SOLHEIM CUP THIS YEAR IS THAT WE'RINGING TO GET SO MANY FRESH FACES AND WE DIDN'T THINK OF THEM, AND THEY'LL BE STALWARTS, BOTH IF PIRIS AND THE SOLHEIM CUP. HOW ABOUT OVER A DECADE? >> ABSOLUTELY. THE FIRST TIME THEY WERE THERE IN 2007, THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD LORENA OCHOA WON. THAT'S WHEN YOU GO TO A SPECIAL VENUE AND HAVE ONE OF YOUR SPECIAL PLAYERS TO WIN. IN 2013 STACY LEWIS HIT AN INCREDIBLE RELEASE TO MAKE A BIRDIE-BIRDIE TO WIN IT. SHE WAS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD THEN. SO THAT WOULD BE -- THAT'S THE STORYLINE THAT YOU WANT TO SEE HAPPEN. WE'RE GOING TO ONE OF THE SACRED PLACES A
