welcome everyone to College Park Maryland in the house that's been built by guys from Boomer to digs home to the Maryland Terin where the fans are eager to welcome visitors into the shell today a big 10 clash and you know when you square off against a conference opponent the blood boils a little hotter as we'll see the Michigan State Spartans taking on the Maryland Terin for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing [Applause] started and the Spartans will put total Lea to crank us [Applause] up here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so the Maryland terens offense takes the field for the first time today here he comes and obviously defense is always going to be aware of a quarterback but boy he finds a way to put defenses on their heels all the time David I mean what can't he do he's got the weapons he's got the confidence he's got the experience Jesse these kind of guys are so hard to defend you're right they be able to find a way to get pressure on him because if they don't this is going to be a long day the Terin are in the hurry up the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D from the gun running back gets to give The Tackle and he's got room to run good pick up there they'll move the chains and they're set up at the 41 I tell you what when those little guys make those physical plays like that it kind of jacks everybody up in the Huddle because it's usually the guy breaking ankles but he's like breaking tackles now he's giving you some serious energy it's first and 10 they've moved it to the 41 they're getting this guy lathered up good pick up on that play it'll bring up second and four yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting him drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage sixy pickup on first down leaves him with second and [Applause] four the lone backs got it little too soft in that run defense he picks up four to the 32 I think that was an example of the offensive coordinator trying to help out his qu he's trying to keep these third Downs manageable you know you throw the ball on second down and it's incomplete now you've set up third and long and now you're set up to fil and that last run leaves him with a third down will they keep it on the ground moving deeper into enemy territory move the chains it's first down at the 27 this offense knew coming into this one guys how important it was to start early and on this opening drive for them they're doing a nice job running the football there on third down they're in a position on the field now if you're on defense you got to be ready for a shot throw into the end zone leaves it with the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball carrier and a great job by the defensive line getting some push making them use their resources on him linebacker comes free him to make in the back field for a tackle for a loss not many hiccups on this drive but it's second and 13 now wants to throw it's Edwards fires to the right oh did he find a hole in the defense he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down you know and that's why this guy can play first second and third down you've already seen him earlier in the drive rip off some nice runs but he can catch the football as well they're going to find ways to get him going in all sorts of ways but you're seeing it specifically on this drive they'll run it from the gun they pick up half of it it'll be second and five and after having a nice game like that on first down if you're the offensive coordinator here maybe you're thinking about being aggressive and taking a shot because even if it's incomplete on second down on third you won't have that long to go going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down keep it on the ground nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry you want to bring in your tight ends you want to bring in more beef for that offensive line I'm going to bring in more beef nice job by the defense understanding the situation Red Zone field shrinks I need more bigger Personnel on the field some big guys that can stop the run played the Run well great job by the defense understanding the situation they go to the draw he just refused to go down kept finding space and picked up seven it'll be fourth and one they'll play it safe and try for three and he'll boot one from the right hash he ought to be able to navigate that angle from this distance absolutely perfect and with that they break the seal on the scoring it's three nothing this is a team that really Prides themselves on starting fast we've seen that before and here they are playing at home today nice job on the opening drive lots of poise good emotion they don't get the touchdown they would have liked but they kick a nice field goal they've got the lead that coach has to be happy with that so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up a field goal let's see what the defense can do on the move from inside his five really disciplined by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so Michigan State offense will get the ball for the first time and how about this match up of a couple of guys who just don't get tired and don't mind being handed the football Jessie and I love this matchup too because in modern football it's all about throwing the ball and spread and Tempo and air rid offenses let's go back to toading the Rock old school two of the best running backs in the business here and the defenses now like they know the challeng they know these guys are going to tote it they got to be physical committing guys to the Box not letting these running backs have success today after picking up a couple it's second and eight back to throw it's feeling some heat they get to him as he throws that pass is incomplete and they're probably fortunate that it wasn't knock free for a fumble and the offensive coordinator here is really trying to stay aggressive and take a shot obviously the offense couldn't click on that one but later in the game if I'm this offense I'm continuing to stay aggressive keep the foot down on the gas P unloads to the right he's got it he'll have enough to move the chains it's first down at the 38 that was a really well run route on the curl to pick up the first down yeah and it's a nice job too by the receiver getting his depth and then finding space in between the Defenders giving his quarterback a nice Target the Spartans have it with and 10 the give to the back and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up stuck with a running game on first down now here they come again looking for a crease it's Carter really nice stop there from this senior leader here they come facing third and long from the 40 from the gun wants to pass snagged in the middle H Brown and he's to the 48 yd line that'll be good enough for a first down and that's really got to make this offensive coordinator feel good you get a completion on a big third down early in the game and that should give him a lot of confidence calling plays this game and the Spartans are flying down the field off play action on first down throws for the tight end makes the grab they ripped off a big they get it down to the 27 and that's the beauty of run and play action everybody sucks up plays the run and you get to slip that tight end down the field with a full head of steam make a big play the Spartans will hustle to the line [Applause] grabbed behind the line it's Foster and that will go backwards a negative play in that defense on high alert that time they're trying to throw the screen out to the receiver the defense though having none of that they are just too physical they're too fast they force a negative play this drive facing a little adversity on second and 11 the play action fake b a little time lets it Go pulls it in young makes a catch and knock down I like the MS the big fella coming in with the catch hey running a little bit of a route showing a little wiggle getting open throw the football that's to catch a big fell from here it would just be a 30 yd field goal try let's see how aggressive they're going to be to try to pick up that first down now they'll run the draw fting off the defender what a good run there he has enough for the first down I think throughout the week in practice when they were game planning their opening script I don't even know if they envisioned it going as well as it has this has been beautiful nice balance really nice Rhythm it feels like everything they're dialing up here on their first drive of the game is working to Perfection they're going to ride this running back here just trying to bash It Forward he got a couple it's down at the 11 operating in the Red Zone here on second down to the air it's child he wants it all he snares it in the end Z touchdown Spartans and what did I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense lining up to attack one more onto that lead and the extra point is good and it's a four-point lead they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they finish it with an 11 yd touchdown D the kickoff team out there getting set he'll start the return inside his spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 here comes the Maryland offense back onto the field always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium here's the hand off drag down at the 30 after a 5yd gain you know you start day one of training camp running your base runs you need a few yards you run these plays you need a first down you run these plays you rep them over and over and over again they're not sexy they're not pretty but in the end they're effective and they get you that new set of downs when you need them might as well give it to him again at the 40 there he goes and they drag him down but not before he picks up the first down right away after picking up the first down they go right back to their playmaker at running back and I love the push they got up front getting a hat on a hat opening a huge hole for the back and you become so hard to defend when you can run the football successfully on first down you're starting like that now what opens up play action now you're making me play pass and run and the quarterback bought some time but not enough down he goes with a sack what an effort getting to the quarterback there and you think about Michigan State D line and Jerel Worthy shalik Calhoun guys that would use their frame to their advantage and you just could not block them this guy has physical ability he's got a lot of things he can't coach one of those is that frame and he used it right there to his Advantage we'll see if they can get a little better protection the sack it's second and 12 looking to pass it's Edwards they'll run the screen and it's pretty obvious there was a big hole in that screen and the defense ran right through it and you're trying to get the ball to the running back quick and let him get some space but there was absolutely no space they penetrated quickly and they got him before he could even get going even if they don't convert picking up a few would give them a decision to make on fourth down down is third and long from the 45 unloads it left makes a connection defense needs to regroup as he gets it down to the 26 man this offense is so dangerous re they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels and the Terin in the hurry up trying to find his man on first down going for it all pulls it in in the end zone DOD down [Applause] Maryland and it's so underrated the the relationship between a QB and a wide receiver the timing the ability to know where he's going to be and be accurate with the football that's what leads to nice touchdowns Jesse well the chemistry between these two guys has to be great when throwing because coverage is going to be tight the throw might not be perfect but this is something these two guys have been repping and practice over and over and over and it's paying dividends now on game they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point gives him a three-point lead at 10 to7 they put together an 81y drive and they finish the deal with a 26 yd touchdown pass the kickoff team out there set to boot it [Applause] away from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Spartans have it back on offense hoping to play some good ball they'll run the RPO and throw it right and good coverage by the defense just a short gain and that was close for the offense they try to go wide receiver screen they're counting on that receiver beating that Defender wasn't able to make him miss that time but if I'm on offense I'm going back to that play later they'll snap it from the 18 on second and eight on the ground it's Carter tried to move that pile forward he maybe gets two he's down at the 21 [Applause] how bold will they be on third down after that last run looking for a man it's child getting some heat just had to get rid of that one to save the yardage on third down and the Spartans will line up to punt it away they'll have to punt for the first time this afternoon and he'll work his way on the return out to the 35 yd line before he stopped mirland has the ball back and the Terin offense ready to go how about that last drive just him up in the air David yeah and how about that quarterback you gave him the ball and he delivered the goods great job taking apart the defense Jesse on that last drop he really did David I mean that was a master class in just reading coverage and being accurate it'll be a first down from the 49 yd line free- snap motion quarterback trying to get a read grabed in the Back Field it's heni they make the stop right there good pick up it's still short of the first down listen running backs are not just running backs anymore you're going to be a wide receiver in today's football and a great job sneaking out of the back field getting the football letting them get some positive yards still some work to do after that last completion it's second down from the shotgun the inside G wrestled to the ground after picking up the first first down this is a guy that can find you the hidden yardage that play he just pushes the pile to get that first down the terens have it with a first and [Applause] 10 he'll keep it himself he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three great job staying home by the defense there trying to go option the QB keeps it but you see the great assignment football everybody's staying where they're supposed to be and they're able to Rally to the quarterback and Tackle him for a loss as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter to the air it's Edwards and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down final play of the quarter coming on Third and long he's going to have to turn one loose down field they get him on the ground and with that we'll head to the second quarter we've come to the end of the quarter and Maryland has the lead guys let's have a look at the stats as we've played one period [Music] now to see if these guys can get back in the game as we open the second quarter and the Terin send out the punt unit first punt of the day and he'd love to lock them up close to their goal line able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 from the gun the ground game they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that so first down didn't exactly go according to plan let's see what they can dial up on second down reys I got a right where I want okay I'm going to throw the football now I can get back in shotgun forget the running game stuff we're going to play a little pitch and catch and see how good that secondary is looking to pass on second down makes the grab it's young not a whole lot of room there on that screen pass as it just never developed well this defense is used to seeing this fullback just slam up on in there trying to block people now you release him out of the back field to see if you can catch the defense off guard third down coming up after that completion to the air it's child it's caught down field and they finally get him down but not before he's got him set up for business at the 49 yd line I really like when offenses attack over the middle of the field between the linebackers and the safeties there's usually a soft area that you can usually have some success and really nice job by this offense taking advantage of those areas off the play fake on first down to throw and they couldn't hold off the heat and he goes down with a sack the defense just simply not fooled by the play often times an offense you're hoping the Run fake is going to slow down those pass rushers but man oh man they had their ears pinned back after the big first down sack it's second down they'll run it from the gun that's what you expect from a don't give them any extra yards great tackle there now trying to keep this drive alive on Third and long from the 45 he's looking down field to throw he lost one down the sideline and that one's incomplete they weren't just trying to move the chain they were trying to move the scoreboard instead it's fourth down and I know most offensive coaches they're going to be thrilled taking all these 5050 shots against man coverage I don't know though if they want to keep testing that defensive back he has been on fire the Spartans will try to pin them back with the punt a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work here comes the Maryland offense back onto the field here's another opportunity Jess he to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers reys I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here solid pick up a four on first down it's second and six out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back tackle is made but not until he gets the first down and you know big chunks like this don't happen unless you commit to the Run game you got to get those big boys up front into the game understanding I want to knock people off the football create some holes like you do here for my running back make the game easy they'll line up right at the 48 yd line on First and 10 pulls and throws off the RPO oh sick nasty move and he's loose that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game and that big gain on the last one has them threatening from inside the 10 they'll dial up the run on first and goal he bullies his way all the way down to the five yd line halfway there on first down it's second and five to the air it's Edwards b a little time lets it go fires to the tight end they've got it down to the three yd line really well done on that throw and catch I like the idea by the quarterback there you're trying to get this first down so you find the tight end see if he can make a guy miss or shake a tackle not able to get it done they relentlessly moved forward now it's getting down to cas's Third and goal from the gun wants to pass Dodge down ter and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and on the board [Music] now they'll line up for what they hope is [Applause] automatic and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive he'll bring it back from inside to SP nice job exting all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 Michigan state has the ball back and here comes the offense the deficit here is just 10 points David So a chance to answer here plenty of time left in this football game no need to panic this offense just has to put a couple Drives together and listen the defense will get this back and get some stops fmer and get you the football back and I think I think here too David you have an opportunity to keep the pressure on the opponent yeah they just went down and scored but you SC here and this game still tight you keep their feet to the fire so an opportunity here to keep applying that pressure caught over the middle it's Foster and they'll spot it at the 45 that's good enough for a first down the Spartans very efficient with this passing game you like that reys you like that I think so this is an offense that listen when you've got a guy back there that that can be efficient make no mistake they're going to run the football but when you get that KK cousins guys start to really like the offense catch in the middle it's Foster makes that one p off and they finally get him down at the 38 it'll be first down find my guys quickly know my matchups get them the football let them do the rest so many Playmakers now in football I'm trying to get it to him as fast as possible so he can do that right after the catch make guys miss make beautiful plays they go to the ground knocked down at the 35 after a pick up of three nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered [Applause] up after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven trying play action throwing right a strike downfield and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play throwing the comeback looks like such a simple throw but the timing is so important and as a quarterback man this is all about trusting your guy you know exactly where he's going to sit it down you anticipate it you throw it you know he's going to come back and make that play for you movement here from the tight end they're threatening to score and they'll throw it fires into the end zone he was open he had it and he dropped it would have been a touchdown instead it's second down oh the offense just not able to come up with that you knew that was going to be a bang bang play right they're taking a shot into the end zone that's going to have to meet a contested catch on the back end but he wasn't able to come up with it because of the hit they'll go back to the air on second down and it just squirted through his hands he wanted to take off and got too anxious yeah and you use these running backs so much in the passing game now and you expect him to make those plays for you to make those big explosive plays out of the back field just got to make sure he concentrates and see that ball come in really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal looking to throw it again another incompletion on third down and the offense got themselves in a tough situation third long so hard to execute especially when the field starts to shrink but the good news is they got a field goal in their back pocket now on fourth down here comes the field goal [Applause] team and he missed it no good guys that field goal could Loom large missing an opportunity to get within a touchdown we're still sitting on a 10-point game [Music] Maryland has the ball back and the Terin offense ready to go that last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to change too much ree they had a great Drive they got the touchdown everything working I would expect them to keep pushing this ball down and just imagine if they could put another touchdown on the board right here they could capture so much momentum in this game with backto back TDS the terens come to the line in the hurry up they'll run it from the gun stopped at the 47 after a 10 game there's really no secret to it David when this guy's running well this offense is so hard to stop it opens up everything and he's having a great day showing you a little bit of everything and this offense has got it rolling on the ground the offense we'll put it in play from the 47 on First and 10 right back to the well and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four and that's another productive run this has had a bunch of them today and the running back I think this lead was built on this guy he's done a great job all game long setting the tone and I think that's why this offense has been successful got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four looking to throw it's Edwards safe completion on the screen G room at the 35 a huge gain on that one before he ran out of bounds and he has the first down I love this running back and the job does he has the ball in his hands on this screen pass he was real patient you got to allow these 300 lb offensive linemen to sort of collect themselves and stammer down the field and try to block some of these linebackers in DBS and that's exactly what the running back did great job with patience from the gun he leaves it with the back they make the stop but they give up five y on the it's down to the 11 going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone he'll PLL it on the re he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well one of the reasons this offense likes the option game with the quarterback is to use his speed and try to attack the perimeter of the field the defense though not having any of it you saw the contain on the play forcing him back in the middle of the field and they're able to Coral him for a huge loss on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air grabbed in the middle it's Howard and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop you know the tight end's going to have to do a better job of separating and giving his quarterback a place to go with the football that time just couldn't create it and as a result as soon as he made the catch he was brought to the ground setting up fourth down and if the kicker can put one through this will be a successful drive just drives it between the uprights and that will extend their lead even further [Music] so after the made field goal they'll kick it away and rely on their [Applause] defense from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Spartans have it back on offense hoping to play some good ball coming out on first down with the play f calls it in and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from getting the first down well there's a great example of the receiver working back to his quarterback on the curl route against man coverage he drives back towards the football makes the catch and gets the first down they'll put it in play from the 27 first down takes a hand off it's Carter he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three offense trying to go with some misdirection in the Run game to the boundary but the defense was there they're able to Coral the back behind the line of scrimmage for a loss last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 looking to throw it's child he looks that one in nicely they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success on Third and long he has to throw for It Wide Open down field the defense got caught that time and they finally get him on the ground at the 41 well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how this going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now their head spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's right back at [Applause] him he knock him down right there nice job by the defense shutting down all the options making sure it wasn't easy to read nice job going to the quarterback getting him on the ground this offense has a second down play he's looking to throw they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover to pick up the first we've made our way to the two-minute warning and now they'll try to at least cut a little off of this lead before the [Applause] break if they don't pick up this third down let's see if they trust their field goal kicker after the Miss on the last drive from the gun wants to pass throws to the tight end got his Man Down field he's there to make the stop but not before he sets up this offense first and goal from the seven and after that pitch and catch he's already over 200 yards and we're in the first half Yes Man Reese he's dialed in right now he's really doing a nice job seeing the field reading coverages and finding his open gu first and goal and this feels like their chance to make a game of it falls incomplete and he did everything perfectly except catch the football second down coming I love the coverage on defense in the Red Zone everyone's got their eyes on the quarterback and they're flying to the football and you saw that there on the incompletion defense r goes up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming back to throw it's child that's it Fly and it's caught touchdown Michigan State and this quarterback really does a great job of seeing the defense and seeing what kind of coverage they're in and I think when this offense goes empty and they spread the defense out it just makes it so much more simple for the QB to see what the defense is doing pre-nap then post Snap you could tell he's playing in a great Rhythm right now because he's seeing the field and these empty sets are really helping him out they'll try to attack one more on their score and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer so a scoring drive there of 83 yards and they closed the deal with the seven for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the [Applause] touchdown and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 here comes the Maryland offense back onto the field he wants to throw pocket starts to collapse going to try to get it himself got to protect the merchandise gets down without taking a hit it's just so nice to have a QB under Center nowadays in football you can trust these guys you put so much on their plate and you tell them go get positive yards when it's there and a lot of these guys are such great athletes they do it with ease here comes the offense on second down unloads to the wide out got a man in the middle that's the kind of play that can really get you going as they get it out to the 36 and I love the awareness by the wide receiver on that play because I'm not sure that route was supposed to be that deep you got to wonder if the receiver decided maybe to adjust the route a little bit to make sure that he got the first down looking to move it through the air unleashes one boy did he look as if he was going to go gets it down to the 37 the offense will have to use it first timeout of the half yeah and you see some quarterbacks who hesitate to throw the the middle I love it when you attack the whole field and the middle of the field and being able to throw over linebackers and between safeties is a big skill but show that defense you're you will attack every well when you're running the drag rout against man coverage like that as a quarterback you got to put the ball out in front of your target when you do that you give the guy a chance to then Advance the football up the field pick up a first down like they did right there got the completion on the last play still some work to do on second down M through his hands you just have to make that catch and it'll be third down trying to get their receiver on a drag route work him through all the bodies and traffic but there's just too much happening I don't think he saw the throw real well and it falls incomplete we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five dropping back it's Edwards the throw to the outside is complete finally run out of bounds he has this offense rolling with a first down and the offense has found a lot of success throwing to this guy out of the slot he's done a nice job working the middle of the field winning his one-on-one matchups and this quarterback really feels a good Rhythm when he's looking his way and the Terin with the first and 10 looking to pass inside the Red Zone he got it bu will stop with this timeout from the offense they'll get a chance to regroup on the sideline you love this offense picking up so many first downs it's their own defense David I know you love playing on teams with great offenses from the gun fires into the end zone and he wanted to get the score right there but it falls incomplete this defense is going to have to make some adjustments here at halftime because they have been taken advantage of deep down the field in the passing game they've already given up two TD passes that was almost number three and we're only in the first half just a few seconds remaining here here as they try to put something up before halftime he wants to pass it on second down they will score DOD down Maryland and this receiver is on fire he's got all the skills that you look for in a big time Target that's already his second touchdown of the game [Music] P unit on the field and with the extra point they stretch the lead to 13 so an 82 yd drive there and they C the drive with a four y touchdown pass kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one [Applause] deep he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 needed just a little more help to turn that into a big return they'll Mark him down at the 29 power football with the run good solid run on that one as he gets it up to to the 33 yd line that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our halim update thanks guys a first half that saw a little bit of everything there in College Park toughest job inside that Stadium right now might just be the scoreboard operator after all those first downs and touchdowns big plays have defined this one thanks to two of the best receiving core in all of college football let's see if these defenses can adjust and make the necessary CH moves and with that let's send it back to the guys inside the sh the Terin will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half on the run from inside his own five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 Michigan state has the ball back and here comes the offense they got a lot done through the air in the first half and they might need even more production here in the second I think they will Ree and I think this is an offense that has proven they're playing with good timing right now they've got some matchups where they're winning one on one and they're just going to have to keep going back to the well David and relying on hitting some explosive plays to win this game yeah and I think we look at numbers naturally and and they're losing so that's the most important thing on the scoreboard but they have had success and so what do you do you keep playing pitch and catch you got to score but you got to talk to your defense I need some stops I need the football back quickly so we can do some more damage off the play fake on first down to throw fires to the right it's caught he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down really nice job on that throw just giving his guy an opportunity to catch the ball kind of reminds me about Bill Bur a guy I played against back in the Citrus bow when I was playing he was throwing the Plax go burst and he just kept putting the football in pla's range and we just couldn't stop the two of them they went up and down the field on us all day long throwing it if you just give your guy a chance like he did right there I don't know if this defense can stop them and they'll stop him just of the first down just inches away from moving the scks after trying the running game let's see if they do it again on second down to the ground with the back he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs well there we go we finally see some life in this offense running the football nice game to pick up the first down got to get more of that going moving forward because they have not run it well and the Spartans want to pick up the tempo they'll throw it on first down snagged on the outside it's belly and there were no creases or crevices to run through and they shove him out of bounds got like that big reliable security blanket and that's what tight ends are a lot of the times they just usely big huge guys that if I throw it anywhere near him he's going to pluck it catch it and give me some positive yards [Applause] the give to the tailb Sweet cut there he got a bunch and look close to getting a lot more but he's got the first down you're down obviously at the half you had a conversation we got to come out and put points on the board and Jesse it looks like they're going to start with the ground game and I love this David too regardless of whether they're losing or they're winning come out here and try to be the most physical unit here in the second half get this run game a might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one they tried to run the counter but absolutely nothing do it and those counter plays take a little longer to develop sometimes you're usually pulling one or two guys and that penetration in the back field can kill you can get to the running back before he gets started back to throw it's child looking to the big tight end makes the catch and he'll go out of bounds just short of the go R and they've got it right on the doorstep sometimes your tight end's a safety valve and sometimes he's your goto receiver and the offense knew right away it was the primary target it was where he was going with the football because you know you get a little bit of suck up from those linebackers with the play action and you feed the big F go straight ahead they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well and you see the sense of urgency now going up right David on defense here creating a negative play with their backs up against the wall everybody selling out to stop the run nice job being aggressive by this defense can the defense stop them again on second and goal he'll run it to the right here and try to get it into the end zone he's Dro behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and that's a great stop by this defense second down and goal getting the Lost yardage play now putting your defense in a better position for third down how about this defense just wrecking the offense on the last two plays and forcing a third and goal from the gun wants to pass and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score third and short field go range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make an accurate enough throw ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down now on fourth down they'll send out the field goal unit never doubt after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away here he comes from inside his own five and he did a good job bobbing and weaving and finding a little bit of Running Room on that return Maryland has the ball back and the Terin offense ready to go that last drive an absolute aerial assault for the touchdown Jesse it was a nice job in play calling too David just giving the quarterback some easy looks and reads so he could go out and execute and he knew exactly where to go with the football everything looked really really easy he was hot the ball was coming out of his hands the defense better do something different picked up two yard on that last one they need eight on second down back to pass it's Edwards and he drops it just took his eye off of it at the last minute well he did a good job get to the middle of the field that's where the offense wanted to attack on that play he's just got to do a better job looking that football in it'll take some work to get to the sticks it's third and long from the 30 he'll try to pop the draw and tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker and the Terin will punt it away on fourth down this will be the second time they've had to kick it away running it back it's brown they make the stop but there is a penalty marker down let's see what the call [Applause] is the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty from the gun running back on the move didn't get much on first down it's second and N the give to the back and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with his PS will they keep it on the ground again here on third down they'll try to power their way ahead and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short well the defense got the stop there third and one let's see if they can do it again here on Fourth and inches David I just got to find a way to fall forward be physical we work on this all week you know you're going for it on fourth down the Terence will send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and that punt will make it way into the end zone and they'll put it in play from their own 20 the Spartans have it back on offense hoping to play some good ball on the Run Carter he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple I'll tell you this defensive end not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see him beat the offensive lineman there trying to block him and get in the back field to make that tackle for loss that was impressive after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 trying to get the corner he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three the off running towards the open grass right they're going toss play to the field but way too much penetration defensively forcing that tackle for loss guys this offense is already reeling down multiple possessions really need to cash in on this drive on Third and long a check down would be the last resort nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away third and long situations are really hard to convert the knows it's going to be pass the pass rushers are getting up field you're under pressure you don't have timing and as a result now fourth down the Spartans will bring the punt team onto the field doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the punt he gets a block that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yardage you can and help out the offense wide receiver shows motion with Jet Sweep pass across the 10 they are finding soft spots in this defense he's got it down to the 25 I love that play call and I love the timing of the pre-nap motion because the quarterback was able to get it to the receiver right behind the offensive line because of the timing he was able to outflank the defense that puts him out in space where he's able to speed nice job with the pre-nap motion and Tim going up top on first down got it in the middle it's heni excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down this quarterback obviously did a lot of film prep coming into this one he has been picking this defense apart with that last completion guys he's now got over 300 yards passing from the 14 yd line it's 10 they've marched to the Red Zone and here they go it's complete to the left and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few quarterback dropping back understanding I'm getting Zone coverage all I got to do is be a little bit patient manipulate that defense a little bit my wide receiver runs that drag and I get the first down going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down they'll go to the ground and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop I think they called that knowing they weren't going to hit a home run so why would you call it that well you call it so third down becomes an easier down it's not third and long where I have to pass the football now all options on the table not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone got it gets it in Dodge down Carin this is like a baseball pitcher that can't miss he is just pounding pounding pounding the strike zone it just gets in the zone right and you can't miss you you've seen quarterbacks get like that no matter what they do they're on fire they're hitting the receivers and listen that's also on the defense the defense has to do a better job making him feel uncomfortable changing what they're doing in coverage so he's a little bit confused you can't just let him pick you up part ling up to add another and with the extra point they now have a three possession lead at 17 a very efficient five play scoring drive and they Clos the deal with the seven Y for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Michigan state has the ball back and here comes the offense trailing Now by 17 David this is an opportunity that they need to answer and down by 17 it's not panic mode yet like I know we just gave up some points and our defense hasn't played great I think this offense can still be who they are and stay consistent No Doubt lots of football to go but you do get the feeling this is the time of game where you know it could get bad if you don't score and all of a sudden they get the ball back they take it down the field and put some points up this thing might be over so absolutely this quarterback he wants to drive this offense down the field and at least put something on the board about the big F the tight end the wide receiver in a tight end's body going up and making the catch third down conversions are a huge St this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off looking down field it's child fires and picked off he didn't get a lot on the return but man he set his offense up at the 30 and defensive backs you think don't have good hands the big fell shows it how about that defensive back going up and get the interception nice job breaking on the football you say that's why you play defense cuz you don't hands [Music] here comes the Maryland offense back onto the field they'll try the Run he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple no doubt offense wants to keep running the football to win this game but I'm wondering if they're starting to go to the well too often they got to start showing some new wrinkles here in the second half after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 he's looking to throw catch in the middle it's Howard and that is good versatility there and a big hit from the backer in pass coverage I think that time offensively you're just trying to take what the defense is giving you right they're playing Zone coverage you got your big fella just working right over the ball it's an easy pitch and catch just take the profit let's keep going defense getting stingier in their own end of the field it's third and long from the 28 complete to the right touchdown Maryland and The Stomping has commenced like a Thanksgiving turkey there're just being car no shot they have no idea how to get this quarterback's head he's on fire everything he's doing is working def we got to figure something out we got to try to do something a little bit different bring more pressure at this right shoot he's on so much fire you might as well just send everybody Blitz everybody live with the results because everything else ain't working anyways lining up to tack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and the score comes on a touchdown pass covering 28 Ys the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one [Applause] away he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Spartans have it back on offense hoping to play some good ball from the gun they'll give it on the inside he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they face a pretty tall mountain here Jesse down 24 but if they're going to climb it this is a good time to start sense of urgency has got to be big right here you just get the feeling at this point of the game David they've got to score on this drive obviously their defense needs to get stops but at this point offensively they've got to execute much better they they got to be super aggressive down 24 you're going to need three touchdowns three two-point conversions everything to kind of go your way so fast and throwing the football I love this linebacker because he's able to dissect what's happening in front of him and he reacts down hill uses his speed to get to the line of scrimmage and create the negative play and the running game has gone in the wrong direction the offense tries to turn it around and go forward on third down he's going to let one fly down the middle and they wanted it all on third down but now dealing with fourth down man that's a couple bad throws last possession obviously ends in an interception by this quarterback and now you throw another one you know In Harm's Way you got to make sure you're throwing to the open guy make sure you're taking care of that football we can't have any more turnovers and the Spartans will call on their punt team fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt you'll try to feel the butt and see if he can give his offense better field position he's brought down but there's also penalty marker down let's see what this is about so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty so the offense keep this drive alive thanks to the roughing the punter penalty finds a tight end and they pick up just a few on that completion that's a great example of the defense there tackling the catch as soon as the big fella caught the ball down he went not picking up the first got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down looking for space it's Carter just a solid stop by this sophomore I never know if it's grammatically correct to say a team is being out physical you hear it a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run third down and this offense is already in a world of trouble they could really use the conversion not to mention multiple scores he's got an open man major gaps in that defense and he got loose and they finally knock him down at the 41 wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your success that's why teams drill third down so much in practice and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down after the productive first down play it's second and six looking for a man it's child fires to the right oh most had the completion just missed it well the receiver did everything right he ran a good route he got his head around he just didn't finish the play just look it in couldn't find his man last time and that leaves him with a third and six from the gun wants to pass he's got it he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense good route running by the receiver on that corner route was really able to make a sharp break and then run toward the open hole in the defense the Spartans have their offense in high gear off the play fake on first down wants to throw fires to the wide out got him down field so close to that end zone he could almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense when you run the football and then throw in the play action it's such a tricky thing for the defense do I play run do I come up fast it opens those holes right behind the linebackers and between the safeties to make the passing game just a little bit easier keeping it on the ground on first and goal and he takes it to the house touchdown spy got to start cutting into this lead somewhere now the question will they have enough time but that's step one you got to get that first score you got to get back in the ball game and get some of that momentum back on your side you still got more work to do but step one accomplished and they'll try to attack on two qu run is part of their game plan hard hitting tackle no he's short and I tell you what the QB you see down this area it's so short you only got a couple yards you got to get he thought he could get it went downhill tried to get there but the defense says no Ser he'll bring it back from inside to spot nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 one final play before the end of the quarter he's going to pass fires to the middle they've avoided the interception all day but they were lucky to get that one back here late it'll be second down yeah nice coverage and you'd like to snag that interception but there's always a reason why these Thoroughbred athletes play defense it's usually because of their lack of hands like you just saw and the incompletion brings up a second down touch on the Jet Sweep there to make the Stop and we played three in this one these two quarterbacks have produced as we check out their numbers after three one more period to go and we'll see just how much fight they've got left in them they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here third and long try to convert through the air grabbed over the middle it's Smith they make the stop but the sweet throwing catches plenty to give him a first down defense just hasn't had an answer for this guy he has been on point this is about as good as I've seen him play at the quarterback position and here in the fourth quarter with a big lead he's still taking shots and the Terin come to the line with a fresh set of downs wants to throw on first down off the play f it's complete he's brought down but there's a flag on the play let's see if it [Applause] stands and the defender just way too handsy on that last play you could see all the contact as the ball was in the air you simply can't do it and the referee's caught Nifty little dance step and he does a really nice job finding open space and making a good gain before the stop is made you got to give the coaching staff credit because they really do Focus all season long on situational football with the lead late in the game if we're on offense we're trying to stay in bounds we're trying to bleed the clock and after ripping off a really nice run that guy knew I've got to get down I cannot get pushed out of bounds cannot get tackled out of bounds really really nice job they'll run this play from the pistol leaves it with the running back and they did not let him reach the line to gain it'll bring up a decision here yeah and that's a really good job by the defense because when you get in that third and medium area listen you got to be worried about the run and the pass did a good job playing both got it stopped now forcing a the Terin decide to punt it away he's going to try to flip the field with this one and the punt will hit at the seven and they can't Corral it it goes into the end zone it'll come out to the 20 he's going to pass got it in the middle it's Foster they stop him just a link or two short of the first and man what they can do on second down here here's the deal you're down three possessions you know it doesn't feel likely they're going to come back and win but we've seen crazier stuff happen in college football it all starts with a big completion on a two-minute Drive they'll get the momentum started in your direction scanning the field it's child quick completion on the out he'll move it up to the 37 yd line and it'll be a first down throw him to the spot and that's exactly what he did to pick up the first down and that's so many hours of doing this together you know exactly when he's going to break on that out route you know what kind of speed he has cuz you've thrown it so many times nice Rhythm and timing and you could tell that was experienced between receiver and quarterback saged in the middle it's glover a nice job by the QB there timing out that drag throw it's Zone coverage so he's got to make sure he gets it to his receiver in a window to allow him to catch the ball and then turn it up field after that last completion it's second down he's looking to throw a strike down field big play for this offense as they get it to the 32 you know you're seeing in college football now with spread offense and Tempo and air raid we're seeing more and more 400 yard days but I can't remember the last time I've seen one look as impressive as this guy has played today David he has been on fire and it's so Anno now because all the quick quick game is so good and then you take shots when you get matchups and you see tight ends now that that move like wide receivers and running backs that move like receivers there's so many ways that quarterbacks can hurt you now and he showed all of it today quick release on the RPO nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down QB now has over 400 yards passing guys and you got to give everybody else in his Supporting Cast a ton of credit receivers great job running catching the football and this offensive line has been outstanding giving him time to throw they're in the Red Zone first and 10 from the 20 trying to cap this drive with a pass throws for the tight end got gets out of bounds after the big game but they've got it first andal well it's a nice job to the quarterback after the play fake there getting his eyes down the field he had to get that to his tight end quickly knowing he wasn't going to have a lot of space to run with the catch and the Spartans have it in scoring position on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run and he'll get this one back to the line of scrimmage but no farther than that stopping the run is very high on every defensive coordinator's list making the team onedimensional nice job stuffing the run on that play right there he'll try to dial up a better one this time on second and goal from the five the run up the middle trying to find his way to the goal line he works his way all the way down to the three and the defense is reeling and this offense trying to be physical inside the 5 yd line I get it but I tell you what Palmer this quarterback has earned some trust for me with the day he's had yeah right now he's thinking put the game in my hands I'm playing well and I'm seeing the defense well I see what they're doing from a coverage standpoint just hammer it with this running back again and he knowses his way into the end zone and the offense continues to run the football the second rushing touchdown from the running back the offensive line paven holes continue to feed this man the ball getting set for the point after smashes it through for the pat so it's an 80 yd drive and close the deal with a three yd touchdown run they've cut into this lead it's down to 11 as they're set to kick it away and they thought about a return Then thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 Maryland has the ball back and the Terin offense ready to go they still have the lead here Jesse but this would be a good time to put together a drive you're right ree you can't rest easy right now you just watch the opponent drive down the field and score a touchdown of their own so you've got to answer that here your Playmakers better step up and I don't know what it is about momentum in all the locker rooms in all the years coaching everything you can't quantify it you can't measure it and the momentum has swung to the other side you got to get it back not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 from the gun the running back has it getting that push a pick up of four out to the 26 somebody needs to make a play here it's third and long from the 26 looking to throw it's Edwards coming after it firing deep and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it and that is a frustrating possession for this offense you wanted to run the football maybe take some time you did the opposite got in a bad situation threw the football stopped the clock not how you manage a game late in the fourth quarter and the Terin will punt this one away he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight really good job by the coverage team to make the Stop and that's where they'll put it in play Michigan state has the ball back and here comes the offense he'll do it himself you want to make sure to maximize those types of runs and he gets it out to the 41 how easy was that I I mean when you got a quarterback that can run designed runs like this and and get you five plus yards just and make it look that easy G it makes it really hard for the defenses to stop let's see what they've got on second down they'll leave it with the lone back really nice stop there from this senior leader ball is at the 42 yd line close to four down territory here's third and short they'll try to run for it that just never had a chance as they controlled the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down awesome job up front by this defensive line being so good at the point of attack and eating blocks meting some double teams that allows these linebackers to run free unencumbered and get to the football on fourth down looking for the completion quickly to the tight end they'll get him down but not before he crosses the 50 he's down to the 49 I love the bootleg call on fourth down because even if you know it might be coming you have to respect the Fate yeah and you don't know where the launch Point's going to be so you're going to Blitz but then now they move the and it becomes hard because you got to get a moving Target nice job by the offense understanding the situation using the quarterback's athletic ability to get the first down we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming [Applause] up went to the running game on first down now here they come again to throw it's child grabs it in the middle he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short well nice completion there finding the tight end it what's so beautiful about that is while they didn't get the first they were able to pick up enough yards now to make the third down manageable really putting this offense in a good position here on third down off the play fake finds his tight end a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down they absolutely had to have that third down to keep any glimmer of hope alive and defensively that's exactly what I want make you get to third down the clock is your enemy multiple possession lead that is right where I want this offense to the air on first down caught over the middle it's brown and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end really nice job by the quarterback understanding I needed to throw this ball hard like I got to fit in there tight and a nice job by the wide receiver wearing it because he really didn't have a choice because he was going to wear that one regardless the Spartans want to move quickly now from inside the Red Zone he makes a grab and he will score touchdown Spartans they got the score they needed but this isn't over no don't call it a comeback yet the first part step one accomplished but this offense obviously still has work to do but the defense has to go out and get a stop and get him the ball back now they'll try to get the two and make it a three-point game late dropping back it's child makes the grab in the end zone for the two-point conversion and that could be big as it draws him to within a field goal about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown the returner will field it and try to do some business and the coverage team able to make the tackle here comes the Maryland offense back onto the field good solid and if I'm a QB I'm calling my own number a lot especially when it's successful like this continue to put me in good situations continue to get positive chunks of yards yep I'll keep that more and on second down for this offense he's looking to throw caught near the sticks it's Smith that one could really put this drive into high gear as they have a first down the 37 yeah and Palmer I don't know what his grade's going to be but hitting over 400 yards on the day I I think coaches are going to be pretty impressed with the day this young man had no doubt I think for defensive coordinators moving forward now you're going to be charged with having to find answers to try to slow this guy down today we've seen this defense try blitzing Zone coverage man coverage they've mix up Personnel none of it is worked this guy has carved them apart I want to sure I know where The Playmakers are and I can't let guys like this gu slip out of the back field and make big plays against me good job being aware that they can throw the ball to the running back closing space and getting that fast dude on the ground off the RPO complete at the 45 on it way and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 and as a defense scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do the Terin want to crank the tempo [Applause] the aerial assault continues he makes a catch and he's brought down after a nice gain we've reached a two-minute warning in this offense trying to milk this clock and keep time on their side and the Terin getting set on First and 10 they move the tight end all over they'll run it to keep this clock grinding got some room to the goal line and he Sprints to the end zone DOD down and you know late in the games offenses sometimes get conservative when they got the lead and they got the ball I love this offense they were aggressive they got another score added to the lead now you're trying to Salt this game away they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point extends the lead to double figures at 10 so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finished it off with a 14 yd Run for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the [Applause] touchdown and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Spartans have it back on offense hoping to play some good ball comes out throwing on first down catch in the middle it's Foster he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down quick timeout call by by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible he'll come out throwing on first down grabbed in the middle it's brown and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one and at this point the defense looks as if they've been in one of those dizzy bat races they've got no idea where the ball's coming from he's over 500 yards passing is a Heisman trophy level performance from this guy the accuracy the decision making the athleticism everything has been on display throws to the wide out how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion well the DB never even backpedal he never even thought that receiver was running deep and that's why he was able to put his foot in the ground and he smothered that curl route knocking it away now on second down after the incompletion looking down field it's child they're trying to get to it trying to burn this defensive back he CAU it run out of bounds just before he could get it into the end zone and now they're set up first and goal well this offense has a ton of work left ahead of him here in this two-minute situation late in the game but the drive off to a good start you get the first down you get out of bounds you work in the perimeter of the field that is exactly want to do and the Spartans trying to pay off the threat on first and goal he's looking to pass snags it takes it to the house touchdown Michigan State yeah and that's step one great job by this offense getting in the end zone now you got to go get the stop you got to get the football back you got to find a way to do something to create a turnover get an onside to get the football back to get back in this football game lining up for the [Applause] Pat and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer a very efficient five playay scoring drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass they got the touchdown they needed now trailing by a field goal they'll line up for the onside kick and a few anxious moments but the hands team is able to fall on it linebackers moving trying to confuse the quarterback Maryland has the ball back and the Terin offense ready to go one possession game getting late
