Intro [Music] well if you missed our position previews where were you don't worry we're going to catch you up position preview review today on fantasy football today presented by bet MGM the sports book born in Vegas we got a lot to talk about Jonathan Brooks is on the pup list we've got an update on Marshon Lloyd and T.J hackinson as well CD lamb signed his contract Jamar Chase will'll talk about it's a big show but the point of today it's like a cram session we want to you know in case you're not feeling super comfortable about your draft we're going to give you strategies sleepers breakouts busts at each position which players we typically draft at that position uh so I hope it'll be a very helpful day happy tennis day Dave and Jamie you ready I'm as ready as I'm gonna be uh and we're gonna try to live stream it it's either going to be on my Twitter my Twitter account at Adam AER or at Dan's Twitter account I don't even remember at Dan schne NFL I think why just do yours I'll try to do mine but uh why not do the fft account probably depends on which phone we use but we'll try to live have no promises we'll try to live stream anyway let's business I also don't know probably in the 330 range Eastern so we'll keep you posted um is he walking to your house now he's got a lot of work he lives kind of far away he he's making a trik and you know what he called me this morning and he said that he heard his this quad or something like that golfing yesterday at the dve oh the excuses are starting yeah that's a bad sign I was actually I was actually kind of happy I got watch you've gotta play cool it's like when a coach learns that the starting quarterback isn't gonna be available for his opponent that week oh it's a shame we really want to play them at full strength but deep down inside you're thrilled that that quarterback isn't playing you're thrilled that it's what's your uh what's your biggest athletic accomplishment prior to today first of all he said he's fine he woke up fine my biggest greatest accomplishment now my biggest athletic accomplishment is uh Middle School basketball undefeated Championship let's go to our first segment of the show pup problems is that my dog it may as well be schaer was very anti in the dog he thought it was cheesy and it is we're gonna we're gonna lead into it uh Jonathan Brooks is on the pup she's she's sitting right there and she just you know she was asleep and now you woke her up oh yeah great uh so this is the physically unable to perform list four game minimum absence for Jonathan Brooks also for TJ hackinson Marshon Lloyd's gonna begin the season on IR which is PUP List Updates: Jonathon Brooks, TJ Hockenson again four game minimum absence um but uh let's talk about this Dave maybe chuba hubard isn't your biggest preseason Riser because you already were expecting this but according to ADP on CBS chuba hubard is going 133rd overall is he going to be one of the biggest Chubba Hubbard the biggest riser? risers in average draft position I I think that the general public will start to catch on that chuba hub's going to be a thing for at least the first four weeks of the season but it might extend all the way to the middle of the NFL season and I'll tell you what if chuba hubn ends up being as good for the Panthers as Rashad white was for the bucks last year he will be a full season thing and the reason why I compared him to Rashad white is because Dave Canales was the play caller in Tampa L year he's the one that kept Rashad white on the field threw to him a ton made him a very important part of that bucks offense and even behind a substandard offensive line in Tampa and that might be a little harsh on what that line was last year white was good for fantasy and I think chuba hubard the fact that you can draft him3 something you said that's like round 11 not sure I don't think you can though I I don't and I don't think you should I don't think you should wait that long I think you should get him I I'm good with late round nine at this point just get that guy on your bench and if you're a zero RB drafter put three stars next to his name on your rank list because he's somebody that you can actually draft in that round nine range and then start week one it's a zero RB truther and those are the types of running backs that help you crush it when you go that strategy wide receivers early no running backs or even hero RB one running back early go and get chuba hubber he's one of those guys that can help you win early on chuba hubard had 22 or more carries in four of his last six games he faces the Saints Chargers Raiders and Bengals in his first four games so all right Jamie let's talk about compare this to the Browns if you're gonna rank the four running backs on Carolina and Cleveland the the top four chub in whatever are chub Ford uh Brooks hubard how are you ranking them right now Brooks Ford hubard chub Brooks Ford hubard chub Now do how many of them do you think have second half I won't even say League winning but I will say second half must start potential let's say like borderline top 12 which isn't usually like a League winner but a guy you're really happy to have on your team how many of those four have that potential two and they are a Panthers running back and a Browns running back but I I mean I'm starting to think like that there I'm starting to wonder I would lean uh Brooks and chub I would too yeah it's just I I I just don't know that either Brooks or chub is is coming back and being great this year you know well I I I think you lean toward the younger one you know and his injury not as significant as chub's injury so th those are two things that are in his favor um the the you know and to Dave's point about the the Canalis Factor we did not see Canalis use multiple running backs in Tampa Bay he leaned on one guy very heavily and so if he's going to do that when Brooks is right if he's right then Brooks could be fantastic it's a huge if but that would be the case you know it's not like he was using multiple guys in his in his backfield and even the year before I mean it was a lot of Ken Walker you know once he took over that job guys let's say try to wrap up here since we spent a lot of time on chub yesterday let's say you have two running backs that you really like you have uh bejan Robinson and Joe Mixon you took him in rounds one and four do your is your third running back in that scenario you're getting your rb3 would you take Jerome Ford or whoever your favorite in that group of those four is Jamie just gave his rankings or would you take Zach Moss or chase Brown I have moss and brown ahead of those guys so I would take those guys first but I don't think it's a bad idea to take all four of them the two that you first drafted and then these next two so if you're going hero RB or zero RB I would almost cross off Brooks and chub from your rankings unless unless like they're available way later than you expect if you've if you've got two running backs with your first four picks and you pick up a third running back man that opens the floodgates to take Brooks or chub I wouldn't take both but get one of those guys for the second half of the season that's the that's the only draft strategy where I look at Brooks and chub and say okay now I want them on my team all right I'm I'm gonna I'm going to use these running backs that I have to begin the season hopefully they last me all season long hopefully bejon and Mixon Adam that was your example hopefully they're fine all year but if we get to the midseason one of these guys suddenly misses time or underperforms and Brooks is back and he's playing to the expectations that we kind of have for him you'd love to have that guy on your bench so I just one one thing I would change I in hero RB I would have no problem taking those guys because you're still going to be throwing a lot of capital at the position Hero Zero RB it's a little tougher just because you need a little bit more security with your back field but here RB approach if you have your one guy and you're just going to keep throwing just a lot of players in that range uh I don't mind taking a shot on them the other part would be is if you are in the camp of these guys and you can't get them because somebody does take them a little bit sooner if that team is struggling these are easy trade baits in the middle of the season because you're trying to buy them from a team that could be struggling or dealing with some running back issues and trying to acquire that player when they're about to get hot all right that would be our thoughts on chuba hubard who will and others and chuba hubard will certainly be a big riser in 0 probably be a riser in ADP more pup problems Marshon Lloyd will he's not on pup but he'll begin season on r Dan wins this is interesting uh should we be thinking about AJ Dylan in drafts Dave Richard oh Dave's drinking water uh Jamie should we thinking about I can answer that go he drinks more water all right yeah I uh I think I drafted Lloyd last night or something I think I don't mind drafting Lloyd late if you've got the IR spot to stash yeah Players on PUP List: MarShawn Lloyd, TJ Hockenson, Keaton Mitchell TJ howison the the only way AJ Dylan will be a factor is if sorry if something happens to Jacob ear in the year TJ hackinson on the pup list not a surprise um and hold on is is the dog really barking or are you just hitting the button for fun now what dog so you're hitting the button for fun you're purposely adding dog barking yeah it's the pup list Keaton Mitchell's gonna start how many different dog barks do you have just two just two St you have two Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell's going to start the season on the pup list so in terms of Lloyd hackinson and Mitchell uh how many of them do you draft in stash hackinson for sure Lloyd maybe Keat and Mitchell probably not at all uh Mitchell I think is a good if you're in your last round um and you want to prepare to add somebody off wavers and you have an IR Spot Not a Bad pick or the flip side of that is if you already had your draft or he gets through undrafted just pick him up stash if you have an Irish spot like that I did that in our magazine Buzz your girlfriend all right listen if you haven't thank you to talk about Trent Williams here and give you some numbers on what the 49ers did without Trent Williams their star- left tackle last year give you updates on some other injuries then we'll get back into running back wide receiver tighten and we'll finish the show with players that you guys have been drafting a lot of that's all coming up right after this break on fantasy football today Saturday is Big Time on CBS number two Ohio State welcomes aan into the Horseshoe then more college football in prime time with UCLA taking on Hawaii Saturday on CBS and streaming on Paramount [Music] plus listen uh I'm gonna give this assignment to Schaefer and I don't want to talk about it now because I want to get into the content of the show there has to be a Miami UF bet we've got two hurricanes and two G haers on this show they're playing this weekend pretty I'm beyond excited for college football by the way I freaking love it uh there has to be some type of wager something has to happen so Schaefer think about it and uh let's get started here with our position Thomas and I will shave our heads as will you two if if uh our team I love that he's volunteering Thomas no way man this is taking two way super model style hair there's no way he's shaving his head no way Thomas can you sing I cannot sing No perfect uh what about a musical number no yeah I like it I don't like Jamie doesn't want to play the you guys just sound a little bit too confident shave we're gonna shave our heads and sing what are you guys Jam's ready to shave everybody's head but I mean I'd be okay with he did an Instagram filter his he look good that was so funny all right let's go let's go quarterback here uh what's our strategy Jamie at the quarterback we'll go we'll go shave facial hair Adam doesn't have any facial hair yeah he does look at him he's the hairest one here we're not talking about forearms we're talking about faces Overall QB Strategy forearm I do have forearm here that's weird quarterback JB quarterback strategy uh wait as long as you can until you find someone that you like um I I have mostly taken a lot of the QB 56789 group um at what I feel is good value um as we'll talk about with players I have the most exposure to uh but wait as long as you can in our pick by- pick series that you'll see later this week uh I did one team where I took Dak Prescott in round 11 as the last number one quarterback or last one of the last number one quarterbacks Caleb Williams is a number one quarterback for me but uh very happy with that okay so Jim's in that uh 567 you said range at quarterback a lot I mean I have a lot of Richardson a lot of Murray you know uh some some samplings of stout and and burrow and a lot of Jen Daniels too Dave how about you everybody who's been listening along all offseason knows that I'm G to say that you you feel like you're stealing a quarterback from the rest of your league and it it usually means waiting like Jamie does I'm probably waiting a little bit longer I'm probably in the 7even eight n category insert your own joke there but I I've also I've been the first to take quarterback at times when Jaylen Herz Falls to round four and that's happened in an occasional number of drafts that's just our drafts though that's not going I've been in yeah I mean I was in another 14 analyst draft and it happened there too but yeah most home leagues you're goingon to see quarterbacks go early I was in a home league on Friday where I I mean I can't even begin to tell you what the quarterbacks were like flying off the board I ended up getting Matthew Stafford as my quarterback it was it was so bad but I like I like waiting to the point where it feels like a bar at quarterback I think you bring up a good point for I'm looking at just you know I try to use different ADP uh on different shows looking at Fantasy proos ADP Josh Allen's going 25th Patrick Mahomes is going 29th Jaylen Herz is going 31st so those are round three picks Josh Allen at the two3 turn uh it is tough for me if there one of those three is available in round four it is tough for me to pass them up I'm sure it's tough for all you all of us to pass them up at some point in round four but for most leagues they're not going to make it to round for but you know Dave you talked about getting Matthew Stafford I think we we did our podcast League Draft last night was a 14 Team league and okay there are 28 picks in the first two rounds obviously but just looking at the top 24 15 of the top 24 picks were running backs in a podcast League Draft which is almost like an analyst draft which I thought would be more wide receiver heavy especially because it's PPR you only start two receivers but I think whatever the position is you probably really should be paying attention what's going on in your draft so did I want to take Josh Jacobs in the second round no but running back was going so fast I had the fifth overall pick so that was toward the end of the of the second round um running back was going so fast that I had to take him and then I still was able to get Devonte Adams in the third round because wide receiver was going was was uh you know was not being taken so my point is for quarterback if your whole league is going nuts on quarterback I actually do think you should get in on that I don't know how you feel like Dave are you do you regret Matthew Stafford should you have adjusted to what was going on there and gotten in on that so let me give a little bit more context this was a 12 team League um I believe it's four-o for passing touchdowns two of the 12 managers took two quarterbacks with their first four picks wow so I I could bring up the league and show you but I'm pretty sure like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes are on the same roster wow and this is this is a strategy that these two team used and a lot of other drafters started to panic and I I chose not to I decided to stick to my guns and weighted it out and I have Stafford and Levis as my quarterbacks to begin the season and you might wrinkle your nose at that and I'm wrinkling my nose at that but the rest of my team is pretty good okay we'll see how it works out and then obviously the difference between a good week for Stafford and and a good week for one of the higher up quarterbacks not the top four guys but like five all the way through nine let's say it could be five to 10 fantasy points especially if it's a rushing quarterback versus a non- rushing quarterback but I'm I'm still comfortable with it because I I I don't want I didn't want to alter my strategy and I don't want to reach for that position and I don't even know if I was ever in a position during the draft where I was like man I should take the quarterback instead of some other player and I'm telling you the rest of my team is very good oh yeah okay so at quarterback how far in the rankings do you go 15th in our consensus rankings is Goff 16th is Lawrence where's what's the cut off like these guys I'm fine with them as my starter my week one starter I I mean I I think we'll probably say in that range I'll say in that range you know just because you don't want to you know as I'm sure Dave's confident in Matthew Stafford you don't want to be starting Matthew Stafford you know so you'd like to have somebody a little bit more secure that especially in a four-point league you know where where he's not going to run at all um so that that that's that's about it you know Goff golf pry to a um Caleb Caleb you know 12 through 15ish 16ish okay um I don't know if this is the right time to talk about this but I have you guys considered putting gol ahead of perie with the auk uncertainty with the with the Trent Williams uncertainty and I was on the clock trying to decide between the two of them and I regret I think I regret not taking golf the schedule is just it's just too I can't too many things in gol's favor right now have you have you considered that you think you'll make that change not yet but that's coming you know if if if Williams and iuk are you know there's a report that auk may not play week one at this point so um and Williams wants his deal adjusted before he's going to step on the field so yeah you know when you start to nitpick these guys I'm sure if you ask teith his projections they're probably you know not that far off for where those guys are and you know just to Circle back to GF for a second you know I shared the podcast League team with one of our very generous uh donators to St Jude and he wanted Amar QB Sleepers, Breakouts, Busts Ross St Brown you know it was we had Jefferson and Chase on the board and he wanted him specifically for the schedule and so it's something to take mind take into account you know if you're looking at the the top end of it not just the quarterbacks all right uh give me one sleeper one breakout one bus Dave sleeper breakout bust the sleeper for me is uh I don't know who' I send you did I send you names or not I don't think you did you can think about it we'll go to Jamie Jamie sent that's fine go to Jamie because I know he sent oh I got a name Will Levis is somebody that I like to get late okay breakout breakout is it is it is it weird to say Stroud because Stroud broke out yester last year I think I think he could have an even bigger second season I have for example like Richardson's the name that everybody will say but I think stradle have a bigger year than Richardson and bust uh Tua not really feeling Tua interesting okay Jamie sleeper breakout bust I essentially will Lis um uh jayen Daniels as a breakout and Jordan love just based on his ADP as a bust what's his ADP in the 60s oh I love Jordan love but that's too soon Jordan love and Dak Prescott basically backto back in fantasy pros ADP uh who do you guys prefer love and yeah he's going ahead he's going seven spots ahead of Prescott in CBS ADP all right so will Levis a sleeper for both of them CJ strata break out for Dave Jaden Daniels for Jamie and to a bust for Dave and Jordan love too early uh for our liking let me give a shout out to Daran Mirage for making a very generous donation uh to St Jude much appreciated man I actually invited him to join me as a podcast league co-manager but he had another draft last night so he wasn't able to do it by the way B bur league right he is our in our baked Burger Dynasty League he a lot of money to St Jude over the last couple years and we appre mean have to make a stupid trade to make him feel better in in the baked Burger League yeah uh no I don't think I think he tanked last year if I recall so we'll see if that pays off um and here are some news and notes by the way if you want to know more about the podcast league if we have time at the end of the show we can talk about it it's a 14 team PPR league but Jim's writing an article about it and the results the story the results should be on CBS sports.com fantasy pretty soon news and notes so Jamar Chase practiced and CD lamb signed Injuries, News, and Notes a four-year $136 million deal so Dave Kumbaya all is well I think so okay so let's we're going to do this on CBS Sports Network in a little bit but guys rank the top five wide receivers now uh Dave you go first I put lamb right back at the top that's where he was all off season long and now that he's got almost two weeks to get ready for the year and has a chance to get like 12 targets per game that's insane I can't ignore that he's number one Tyreek is second I've got St Brown third over Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase is fifth Chase starting to practice again with the Bengals he's been with them all offseason and preseason anyway and I would imagine that he'll go back to being his usual self okay one more time lamb Hill omon raah jeda and Jamar okay and you Jamie Hill stays at one lamb two Jefferson 3 Chase four St Brown five okay okay uh jir Gibbs practiced puka AA practiced who do you guys take first Gibbs or Puka Puka I am triple cheing my rankings to make sure but I believe yeah it's puka one spot ahead of Gibbs okay top 15 players both uh puka yes Gibbs is I think 16 Trent Williams left tackle for the Niners arguably the best left tackle in football he could hold out into the season he has missed two to three games in all four seasons with San Francisco one of those games was a week 18 game I think he was just sitting uh so if we just look at last year see it's kind of hard to make this statement but because Debo was hurt too but they stunk last year without Trent Williams also without Debo Samuel they were on the road at Cleveland and at Minnesota Brock pie scored 9.7 fantasy points and 14.8 fantasy points in uh Sixpoint per passing touchdown leagues they scored 17 points both times mcaffrey ran for 43 yards and 45 yards he had good games both times well one game he was okay one game he was great but he scored both times but uh they they struggled of course Deo wasn't on the field so you know I I think the Cleveland game may have been a bad weather game I don't remember but um small sample anyway like when are we going to start getting concerned if at all about maccaffrey py KD Debo I know we're obviously concerned about auk but are we concerned about it's a kind of a dumb question right if auk's not there we're not concerned about Debo and KD so how about just mcaffrey and and perie uh Jamie are we gonna get concerned about them not enough to move him from the top spot I think just you know you're a hopeful that the Williams deal will get done and he'll be there and everything will be fine at least early in the season look if they get off to a slow start they're going to pay that guy whatever he wants you know so they're they're not going to screw around with that um I think the other guys you know you can make a case for pie because of the the two players missing so dropping him behind pie excuse me behind Goff behind Tua behind he's already behind Caleb for me um you know makes makes a lot of sense just given the fact that you know it it feels like as good as PR's been and and he's been you know no star since coming into the league um he needs it feels like he needs everything to be almost perfect for him to be an optimal fantasy quarterback how much do you trust Kyle shanan quite a bit well then you should trust these Niners players even without even without Trent Williams that left tackle but that to me that's the biggest Lynch pin of all is that if if Trent Williams isn't there this offense can't operate quite the same way they they're gonna have to compensate for that somehow he's too good of a player but they'll do that they'll compensate in some way that at least makes these players effective I don't know if pie will get to the point where he's averaging and listen this is the strike against pie last year he averaged 22.4 fantasy points per game in six point that's toward the low end you you definitely have to view him through that lens and if there's no Trent Williams does he get that high does he take a couple more sacks does he have a few more throwaway passes I think he might and so that makes me a little a little bit more nervous about pie but I think the Niners have to they got to bring back somebody and I know that auk might not be their top priority Trent Williams has to be yeah I would imagine that Williams will be back soon enough all right uh Dallas hosted Dalvin cook for a visit who do you think is older Dalvin cook or Ezekiel Elliott uh Zeke I think I think cook is older it is Zeke by 19 days they are both 29 years old okay Green Bay acquired quarterback Malik Willis from the Titans for a seventh round pick the Broncos are going so we're going to get a lot of cuts today Tim Patrick is going to be among them or he's going to get traded wide receiver for the Broncos and samj perine as well and I think we're hoping that samaj perine does not end up back in Cincinnati I got bad news for you what he's gonna end up back in Cincinnati OH okay A little preview of that do you think that's gonna hurt Chase and brown they could use a man like that in Cincinnati I I think he will absolutely take both and brown off the field they that coaching staff knows him and they trust him in that passing Downs role that said he's kind of he's kind of old and not maybe not good anymore true but right I don't think I don't know I I think they want him back I don't know if there's 30 other teams that are even remotely interested in samaj JP R Dallas might be they're interested in D M cook I'd rather have samaj JP R uh Patriots head coach Gerard Mayo said that Drake May has outplayed jacobe brassette but that there's more to it than that than when naming a starting quarterback yeah but if if Brett's if Bret's hurt they've got to go with May and they should go with May anyway and Seattle Edge uchan nosu is out two to six weeks with a sprained MCL arguably their best pass rusher for the Seahawks so that's tough break for them okay back to the position preview review let's go to running back and Dave you can start what's your running back strategy I think my favorite strategy is hero RB I I definitely love the idea of Overall RB Strategy getting one running back with my first two picks and I'm open to two running backs with the first two but I think I really like it better when there's one and then if there's if there's a good value at running back in rounds three or four I'll go that way otherwise I don't mind waiting until I mean it's probably the end of that dead zone late round five round six get one of Connor Montgomery Nagi to be that second running back but early on one running back two of there's a value there I am not the biggest fan of zero RB this year Jamie uh hero or zero RB uh I would not take two running backs with uh my first two picks unless it was just overwhelming back like Barkley or Taylor fall to the middle of the second round and right you know I've taken Bree hall or beon uh at five six or seven in that range if they fall um that's probably the only scenario I would do it but uh not afraid of zero RB at all given the uh the running backs that you should be able to get in round 6 seven eight it's zero RB but I thought like I thought we didn't really like that group of running backs that much I don't mind it when I have in a three receiver League four receivers tied in a quarterback that I like so again yeah let let's let's drill in on that zero RB in a three receiver League versus zero RB in a two receiver League it it's easier to accomplish than A3 league and and maybe a better build you know because you can make up for I mean you know again you can go receiver receiver receiver especially if you know you like those guys in in round three that should be available to you or round four depending on what you do in round three you know if you want to take a quarterback or if you want to you know Buy in on leaport or Kelce in that range um but you know again you can go four receivers in a row if you really wanted to you know if you like Devonte Smith or neighbors if he's there or meaf or Higgins or those those caliber of receivers that are going to be there in late round three round four it's just an easy way to accumulate a lot of receptions in PBR so um you know you got to be willing to stomach you know your starting running backs being maybe somebody as good as and I say this you know obviously with with a little bit of hesitation but as good as Tony Pard um Naji Harris uh those those kind of guys you know I I don't take James Conor Aaron Jones because I'm going to shy away from the older running backs but um that's not bad if they still fall you know we we've we did two drafts yesterday where Aaron Jones fell pretty far so I think people are starting to realize like there's a little bit of concern uh but if Connor or Jones fall they're fine um but yeah you just got to understand that your your running back your your two three running backs may be Pard Zach Moss Devin single ter you know like that could be your your first three running backs and you just got to understand like be prepared to play on be aggressive on the waiver wire be prepared to throw a lot of capital at it because you don't really need a lot more at the wide receiver position and you can go into your draft with the idea of okay I'm going to go zero RB but if there's a good value staring you in the face like in I think you're gonna find a lot of running backs in the middle of round two that you don't mind having and you'll weigh those guys versus London olve uh if you're if you're inclined Wadd or Devonte Adams like those receivers and you might not want to take those receivers at that point and you I I think you might have zero RB mind but just let the draft unfold in front of you and accept whatever that best path might be you know how to approach those paths but if you're adaptable in your draft you'll you'll just follow whichever path is the one that just opens itself up to you don't be afraid to take good value instead of like wedging yourself into this rigid plan of never drafting a running back until round six or only taking one running back with your first two picks anything like that you you definitely want to draft the best players that you think will help you win and whatever strategy that comes along with that is what you'll follow got very jealous here with Cameron saying nothing better than sitting by the beach listen listening to the boys talking about fantasy football oh I wish I were doing that uh all right well last time you went to the beach uh a couple months ago went to the Jersey sure with Dan it was less than two months ago I yeah actually don't really like the beach but I would like to be on vacation so I'm going to take a two-minute vacation right here take a break I have I want to give you my running back strategy I want to know what you guys think about it here kind of a kind of a concise way of maybe approaching the position we'll be right back on fft all right we're back on fft so this is you know we've got this sort this tier of running back right looking at consensus rankings right now um running back 17 running backs 14 through 17 are Ken Walker Devon Anan Alvin CRA and Joe Mixon this is PPR consensus ranking averaging out Jamie DAV and Heath's rankings running back 18 is David Montgomery so it goes from Walker hn Camara Mixon to Montgomery zamir white gavonte Williams Tony Pard it's a pretty obvious break in the tiers so my strategy is like almost definitely getting a running back in rounds one or two because I've done the research and last year was an exception and maybe this year will be two but last year was an exception but over the last four years running backs drafted early have more Su have have had a higher success rate or hit rate than wide receivers drafted early I know people don't want to accept that but it's true they've actually been safer with last year being an exception I worry about it because last year was a little bit of a Changing of the Guard we had Zeke and cook and all these guys for a long time they're not there anymore so maybe maybe this trend will continue but running back has been safer than wide receiver but if I can get two of those top 17 and if I can get especially if I can get that second one in round four so that would be Walker chimra Mixon most likely it's a very unlikely anan's going to make it there if I can get two of the top 17 I'm doing it otherwise I am not taking my second running back until probably round six at the earliest but I I think you know first off that's two receiver League or three receiver League or both both okay but especially a two receiver league so just knowing the way that you've drafted and I think it's just worth mentioning because a lot of people don't love this is you've typically been doing this and settling for Caleb Williams I don't consider it settling but absolutely yes but but the point would be is that you're you're waiting very long on quarterback yeah but I could still make that work with like Kyler Murray but then you're sacrificing receiver a little bit because that's what you're chasing yeah but I'm I yes I'm fine I just I just want to make it clear like you're you're and there's nothing wrong with it but you're you're pushing back one position like for me I'm typically pushing back my second running back so that's the difference is like you know we're we're we're all sort of moving things around a little bit if you want to try and get your optimal draft strategy to work and sometimes it all falls in place like Dave said don't pin yourself to something because you may see something that just stands out to you and like okay I can't pass this up and now you have to alter somewhere else and and it may not be waiting for Caleb Williams but that's just kind of what I've noticed with your teams is because you do this and because the people drafting around you it's very great point you made about the podcast Le people drafting around you are pushing receivers up so what you're doing is you're trying to compensate a little bit at the receiver spot you're sacrificing quarterback so if I'm GNA sacrifice a position it's GNA be quarterback right which is fine it's more about like recognizing that top 17 being the desirable 17 and making sure people don't reach for running backs like 18 19 20 in late round four or round five I think that that's a great point because the way I draft is I will typically take one of those 17 mhm let those other guys go and then I'm throwing a lot of capital at I don't know the number but the the Bengals gu Spears Warren uh then Chandler hubard Ford D like these are the guys I end up drafting the most of mlin um because that's the group I think someone will emerge and become a top 20ish caliber running back maybe not the entire season but the pockets that I'll need them you know so I'm putting a lot of faith in the one guy which is what hero RB is I'm putting a lot of faith in the one guy and then I'm hoping that that other guy or waiver wire option will become something that I could feel confident in knowing that the the build that I put together is going to be wide receiver quarterback tight end friendly honestly you know what however you guys want to do it is great I I but you agree at least on the that marker of that 17th running back big difference between 17 and 18 you have to feel comfortable knowing that they're older running backs they're time share running backs there's guys that are you know not necessarily guaranteed to be stared like I've bought into gavon Williams now after you know being very reluctant this offseason just based on the reports um I I've for the most part been a Brian Robinson guy so these are guys that have risen in my rankings Tony Paul has risen in my rankings right but compare them to Joe Mixon um I don't think there's much drop off but Mixon is certainly the the safer of the group so yes that that's there there's definitely a line you know and and I think for me Montgomery is the line you know so I don't know what it is consensus wise but uh that 18th running back is basically the line so I don't want really any part of and it could be a a huge mistake I don't want any part of the two 29 year old guys in Connor and Jones where you have to draft them based on average draft I just I I won't do it you know so I'm out on those two um I'm certainly like I said I'm I'm willing to take chances on Pard and not at the right cost um but those guys if it's round six or later depending again on the build yeah so it's again you have to look at the rank list tiers anything you know any way that you want to approach it and say okay where am I comfortable a buying into the first guy if you're going to go here RB uh or or two and then the second part of it being if I'm going to go back into this running back pool do I want to take these guys at that cost where we've Illustrated it time and time again the receivers in this this range are fantastic still the quarterbacks in this range are fantastic you're still potentially getting conc and then the next Trio of tight ends which is still very good value you know so it's just a matter of what you want but again the the receivers that are going to go after that the rookies all those type of players they're still G to have some opportunities to be successful at that spot too okay I'm sorry Dave you want to just move on to sleepers breakouts and Busters did you want to get in there no no no I mean listen I'm I'm a little bit more interested in in Connor than jimie is um and I would consider Connor above the mon momery line and recently I moved zamir white to the other side of the Montgomery line and nii to the other side agree with Jamie on Aaron Jones all the way but they they're guys that are your last ditch rb2 so if you do wait if you don't take the AER approach and you do find yourself in that round five six range maybe you're loaded at wide receiver maybe there isn't a tight end that you like there uh and and you're not taking a quarterback there I wouldn't hesitate to take one of those four running backs Conor Montgomery white and Harris but it's got to be in that range I agree that you can't reach for those guys you can't take them too soon but I know that you're going to ask us about players that we've drafted a lot of because I draft with so many people that don't like Connor I've taken Connor and I've had no problem with it because it's in that five6 range all right let's do sleeper breakout bus real quick Jamie sleeper breakout bus at running back uh RB Sleepers, Breakouts, Busts Jal mlin is the sleeper uh who the breakout I gave you was James Cook uh Ken Walker oh ken Walker yeah Ken Walker break out and bus will be a Dave Jamie had the chance to do the funniest thing at sleeper and say JK Dobbins and I know it's gonna be a mess in La between however many running backs they end up using but Dobbins might be the most explosive and you're getting him around round 10 maybe even after round 10 so I would say that he would be a sleeper PCO is my breakout and then a bust at running back uh Devon Anan mini B onp I know I've gone like way too long on this topic but whatever if we don't get to the players that we always draft it's not the end of the world um what is the Ken Walker enthusiasm all about Dave you another like Jamie just need know as a breakout I know he's in your breakouts column y i I think that he's going to be a much bigger part of that Seattle offense than we initially believed uh there isn't a running back that's really going to take a ton of work off him at least not at the beginning of the year I think the interior of the offensive line for Seattle will be fine and I think they're going to throw to him more than what we've seen in the past the offensive coordinator has spoke glowingly about him and he's kind of emerged as one of these running backs that might see 17 touches a week rain or shine and to me that's a running back that I'm willing to take the chance on when you get to round three and so he's move he's been in my round three range for several weeks now and I I don't think it's reaching at all I think that's exactly where he should go okay let's let's go to wide receivers talk about this position here uh Jamie you can have the first word what's your wide receiver strategy draft a lot of them yeah how Overall WR Strategy how how many is a lot of them if you start two in a flex draft four early if you draft if you start three in the flex draft five early okay wait a second F what why what is early five five receivers in a three receiver five in your first seven rounds six in your first what yeah you know you have to play other positions right it's not just receivers oh my goodness uh all right like but why the why are you sacrificing a starting spot for a bench receiver depends who it is I mean I I told you in um actually I didn't do it my son did but uh his his draft he had we start two receivers in a flex and he drafted Jefferson Harrison London and then rashy rice was there in round five before he picked his second running back how many teams in the league 12 yeah I get it you can't pass up Great Value um all right Dave what's what's your wide receiver strategy I'm not quite as pedal to the medal on receivers as jimie is but I I get it and I'm pretty close to it the first thing is look at my league scoring is it full PPR cool I'm going to be on receivers more if it's half PPR non PPR um my foot will be off the gas on wide receivers if I start three receivers in a flex I'm going to want to get four good receivers I'm going to want to cover those starting lineup spots with wide outs that have the target volume that have the potential to be you know anywhere from 13 PPR points per game up and there's a lot of those guys this year Adam I think that this is the deepest position it always has been but I think it's plenty deep this year and we've talked about you know what's the difference between uh wide receiver 20 and wide receiver 30 and wide receiver 30 to wide receiver 40 and the drop offs are pretty small there there isn't a cliff at this position that's as bad as the running back position you know we can sit here and say all right who's our David Montgomery among the wide receiver twos and and for me my goodness that that guy might be might be Stefan Diggs might be Christian Kirk and those are receivers that are ranked in the 30s for me so I feel like I can I I can get good receiver values all the way throughout but that being said if I get the chance to draft two of my top nine wide receivers I'm taking it every time two of your top nine wide receivers two of the top nine lamb Hill amanra Jefferson Chase Brown Garrett Wilson Marvin pukaa H we're calling Marvin Marvin he hasn't played a game yet he's on a first name basis puka uh those are my top nine and if I can get two of those nine I I dig it I I don't mind that at all yeah one of the issues I have with drafting wide receivers like a lot of them early is uh I don't want to be out of the late round wide receivers um but why do you have to be no I don't know that you have to be but if you're building a hero RB build you're obviously gonna have to take a lot of running backs in you know round eight or later right you're gonna gonna have to load up on Zach moss and and to and chuba hubber and Rico dowle Etc and then you might miss out on jsn and Jameson Williams and Roman dun and guys like that you could still probably get like Josh Palmer or khil Shakir but I did want to bring that up you know there there's good good wide receiver value throughout the draft you know last year who went in rounds seven through nine in 12 team leagues Brandon iuk Mike Evans Michael Pitman and Jordan Addison the year before that who wins round seven through nine Aman rosin Brown Amari Cooper Devonte Smith Brandon iuk and Christian Kirk they were all top 15 wide receivers overall um so I'm not saying that's going to happen again this year I don't know that we have that kind of like Target volume from the receivers in that range it's a lot of rookies and stuff but yeah I don't want to there be a couple that that emerge don't put yourself out of that range by loading I think what might be a little different for me is like I have a lot of those guys in the first six rounds who those caliber of receivers I'm sorry you mean I I have almost 40 receivers in in my first six rounds the guys you're talking about that around seven eight picks they're pushed up at least in that grouping they're pushed up for meh okay okay so uh sleepers breakouts and oh you know what what's your favorite range at wide receiver like you think the best value at receiver is web uh value yeah there's two spots rounds four five right so I would say round five is one of them and honestly like round one just amending what I said before about two of the top nine I don't know if I'd feel great about Marvin and puka it's almost impossible to get two of your top nine in it's really hard you need running backs to get pushed up I agree oh if you're picking 11th or 12th I think very right like if I can get Garrett Wilson and Marvin Harrison I like it but it's Marvin and puka might be the only two that I might Flinch at and take take one of Jan Taylor or saquin Barkley with them but round five is fertile man they I I still think Christian Kirk's a good value I've been big on mclen and Godwin I've warmed up to Ridley uh even Amari Cooper is going to be in that range there there's some good running receivers rather in that range that I'd be more than okay with as my wide receiver too okay let's go to oh sorry sleepers breakouts and bust Dave sleepers break out and bust in tight end is is khil Shakir or Jordan Palmer to obvious at WR Sleepers, Breakouts, Busts sleeper Josh Palmer uh no I don't think so okay so uh I'll I'll I'll say them I think that they both have the opportunity to finish as a low-end wide receiver too this year breakout breakout a wide receiver um Jaden Reed in Green Bay I've gone all offseason liking him still think he's the most versatile guy that the Packers have bust a wide receiver it's Michael Pitman I think he's being drafted way too soon Jamie sleepers breakouts and bust at wide receiver uh Dave took one of mine so I'll go Brian Thomas at sleeper that's a um breakout we'll just go the obvious guy I've drafted the most of Drake London and bust Brandon I okay and the guy that uh he took was Josh Palmer so we agree on that Jamie uh iuk is new for you I think is it it's just the hold out yeah I mean I'm not I I just keep dropping him further and further so he's he's in round five pick for me which I'm not gonna get okay tight end Dave what's your tight end Overall TE Strategy strategy I want one at a fair value I don't want to reach for one and it's different landscape for tight end this year than it's been in the past I don't think we'll see many tight ends going in the first two rounds Kelce isn't a first round pick anymore and so if if you can get a tight end at a fair value meaning you look at the ADP and you draft them around that ADP for most of these guys I'd say it's good to go uh okay Jamie your tight end strategy I didn't realize that I have as much of the high-end tight ends as I I do but going through I went through the 15 leagues that I've drafted so far last night um that are being played out so none of the mock drafts that we've done just the 15 leagues that that I'm in so far that are playing out and I have eight I'm sorry uh 11 of um 11 of those leagues have five have cancade three have McBride three have lto so I didn't realize like how much of the early round tight ends I've been actually drafting I know I had a lot of con so that was that was obvious to me but um and and I guess right after that I know I have at least two two Leagues with Evan Ingram so th those are the the that's where I'm basically living is those eight tight ends you know I haven't really gone farther than that you know last night in in our podcast League 14 Team league uh we took concade and it was uh you know this was me fighting myself um with with uh you know somebody else pulling The Rains of um take you know Mari Cooper was just sitting there and sitting there and sitting there and you know I'm not the biggest Cooper fan but it was like I couldn't pass up K just knowing that you know if he hits in a 14 Team league he could be special so um you know it's a matter of just how how comfortable do you feel with you see what 10 through 12 is um you know I think I think Ferguson belongs I think there is a top nine but you know you see what 10 through 12 is and you know we just lost Hockinson for four games and um you know Fri mouth is not looking great right now and so it's it's a little ugly to you know wait on those guys like there's going to be guys that emerge you know the I think Joan Johnson's got a chance I think you know one of the commanders tight ends have a chance I'd lean towards Senate just because I think there's more upside um oh you know Concklin is is a guy that could be a PPR option um Hunter Henry can score some touchdowns you know there's going to be some guys uh dolit jonu Smith keep their own names but yeah that's why it's uh it's it's ugly so I prefer to have one of the top nine guys if I can what kind of a man makes these sounds I mean these are legit things that have happened on the I love it thank you Heath nobody liked your Dalton concade pick more than I did yesterday because I got T Higgins one pick later um yeah May I'm sorry maybe it was Higgins and k k we were struggling it was Higgins it was Higgins not Cooper uh yeah man so so get a top eight or top nine guy try try your best I think so but it comes down to cost too you know we were talking about this yesterday Adam about Kelsey right you know like you said you're out on Kelsey I think it was F5 Express um that he's he's just become he's been he's being drafted in spot where it feels like it's a reach and you know Target Crunch and snap count crunch you know for him that the the 10 touchdowns that I know you've been counting on if even if they're there is he still going to be you know close to 15 PPR points because I think that's what it is he's being drafted as a number one guy you got to expect that number um I think all of these guys really in the top four for sure but you know I'll throw K Ken there are going to be in that 14 point per game range because they all were last year you know th those top four guys all were last year Andrew was there before he got hurt McBride was there once he became the the guy for the Cardinals and obviously Le Porto was too so it's just a matter of you know how confident you are in Kelsey being 10 spots better than than Le Porto that's what he is based on ADP right now it's crazy so I I almost think it's worth it for us to go through the ADP of like at least the top five tight ends and I think K Kelsey has the worst ADP as far as value goes I haven't I'm writing the story today for the the fifth review of our ADP and last week he was he was uh his ADP was I believe 20 whatever 20 point something and Lea was like 31 it was they're way down because he's now 20 oh you use a different number okay well he's 23 he has the Kelsey has the 23r looking at the overall ADP his average draft position is 25th but that that that ranks 23rd uh he's 25th leaport is 36th so it's still same 10 10 apart and I'd rather have leaport that value than Kelsey I don't think that that's a shocking statement yeah I I my thought was like you want to talk about those top four tight ends they I think they could probably finish in any order so I don't want to be the one to get them first you know take that wide receiver in round three take a tight end round four if you want sure or keep going but I pretty much never I don't I don't think I've maybe one draft our magazine draft like two months ago whatever it was I have Fri MTH G where's my and that's maybe the only draft that I leave without a top nine tight end it's just a huge priority for me I hope I'm right about this um and then think about nooku he's probably a little underrated lot a little underappreciated probably get you by right so this I just want to lay out what my plan is when I whiff on those first nine tight ends which has happened to me it's not by choice and nine is Ferguson right nine is Ferguson and I I don't mind him being nth in fact in a way I like his value better than Kyle pittz and Pitts is going ahead of him by like 12 picks um when when I whiff on those first nine nooku is gonna be toward the top of my list Bowers is gonna be the toward the top of my list uh you can you can cue the noise all you want Adam but Zack Herz at least is a guy who can get me started to begin the season he'll be on my list and I'll pair those guys with a hackinson just with the idea that when hackinson comes back maybe he can be 80 % of himself he'll sit on my bench in an IR spot for the first four weeks and hopefully Sam darnold will just lean on him and Pelt him with four targets when he comes back is that the noise that you wanted right but I'm I'm kind of resigned to streaming the position at that point but beginning the year if nooku is who I'm beginning the year with and I'm quote unquote streaming I love that Bowers less so hers less so hackinson you can't stream with but you're hoping that he gives your tight end spot a boost when he's back looks like we're we're going to have to save players that we keep drafting for another show because I did oh give me sleepers breakouts and bust sorry at tight end uh Jamie go ahead uh TE Sleepers, Breakouts, Busts Joan Johnson sleeper breakout is concade and bust is uh Kelsey I'll go with Zs as my sleeper just as an early season guy who might be able to get you 10 per week I don't feel like he's a touchdown or bus fantasy tight end I think he could be at least the beginning of the Season as long as he's healthy the guy that gets you um like five four or five catches a game concade is the breakout I don't even know if there's a second breakout that's worthy of being mentioned KY pittz is the bust I was gonna say maybe Kyle Pitts is the second breakout worthy of being is for me yeah I'm excited about McBride I mean McBride sure could qualif yeah you know um I me his ADP is good too McBride's ADP he's 52nd off the board ADP of 55.6 no problem with that value you guys want to give any tips on ERS and dsts when to take them with your last two or three picks Max any sleeper one of our listeners emailed and said you have any sleeper dsts definitely Seattle is at the top of my list even with being out that wasn't me by the way that that was an actual dog that was yeah um Chargers start the year against the Raiders they have a pretty good defense I think they'll be coached better this year Texans have an awesome defense man if they're healthy if Will Anderson is good to go that's a defense that I think could carry you all season long I mentioned Seattle um maybe Chicago going up against Tennessee in week one if you miss on those first three dsts that I see I gotta go bye all right so the Jets I took the Jets last you know what that means the dog just did something in the house and Jamie's gotta go clean it up he's gonna be barking the whole time um the Jets I love getting you know they they've got the ners in week one stinks the jet schedule after that at Tennessee New England Denver at Minnesota Buffalo at Pittsburgh at New England I mean it is phenomenal they also have pretty good returners I think if they have a chance to run a few kicks back it's hard to project I I am not gonna say anything about returners and kicks because I don't think we know anything about what these teams are going to do but I do know that se's got a great I believe Seattle starts with Denver and New England that's nice too that's but I do know that that the Jets have like good have if they want to use Corley back there but Gibson is really good so um we'll see all right uh that is uh that's it for the show so so tell me the truth are you gonna whip Dan in tennis or what no there's no way that's gonna happen I I do think humble I do think I have a chance um but I will probably this is the funny thing I will probably know within five warm-up hits like as I see the ball come off his racket I will probably know how good he is and what kind of a chance I have so I'm truthfully very nervous like I have butterflies in my stomach very nervous for this wow all right man you got to build up some confidence between now and then that's exactly what I was gonna say AER you can't go into this thinking that you're going to lose or that he's better than you you're gonna get crushed otherwise no won't be I think if I go in there with a false sense of confidence that would be bad too no when I get out there I'm very competitive I'll be very focused and I will you know I I will play to win no question I mean I could tell you like the mental steps that I went through before I was in my pizza eating competitions maybe that'll or your Wheel of Fortune competition oh so I was that's that'll take longer but like Bill Walsh was involved in that it's crazy but I I was very focused I believe I won every puzzle except one yeah wow if you count the bonus round all right well for those of you who've been watching or listening for a while I'm going to be a flamingo out there today and I'm GNA take down Dan schneer thank you all for watching and listening I hope you enjoyed the cram session and we will see you uh tomorrow on fantasy football today
