that's the hardest team in the world to make right that is a tough team she's young she's going to have so many opportunities in the future how did you coach her up through that or did you talk to her at all through that to make it more of a motivating factor than anything yeah we we talked actually on the bus she got the call on the bus and she texted me to let me know and you know I just try to keep her spirits I mean the thing she said was because they woke a monster which I thought was awesome it looks like Caitlyn Clark has wrapped up her second regular season game and unfortunately it did not turn out the way everyone thought it would for this one we need to head up to Indiana where the game took place and things didn't quite go as expected Caitlyn Clark and the Indiana Fever opened up tonight for their first home game of the regular season in front of a sellout crowd the atmosphere was Electric with over senior th000 fans in attendance all eager to witness Clark's much anticipated performance however the game didn't unfold as many had hoped WNBA MVP Brianna Stewart stole the spotlight delivering a stellar performance that left the Indiana crowd in awe I'm going to start with how you can at this level coach effort I felt like we were just trying to ask them to keep playing hard play can't you can't start there can't play in this league if that's what you know if you have to coach effort it's just it's just too hard we're down 28 and I wanted to put a group in there that would get out and play some defense I'm really really proud of that group that went out there and and um cut the lead we played hard you know we've got Atlanta coming up we got Chicago coming up um just thinking ahead Stewart was on fire finishing the game with 31 points 10 rebounds four assists three Steals and two blocks her dominance was a key factor in the New York Liberties crushing 10266 victory over the Indiana Fever on the other hand Caitlyn Clark struggled throughout the game she had her moments but ultimately finished with just nine points seven rebounds six assists and one block her shooting was off as she made only two of her eight field goal attempts it was clear that this wasn't the performance Clark or her fans were hoping for especially on such a significant night as the game concluded the frustration among Indiana Fever fans was palpable many are now calling for the dismissal of head coach Christy sides blaming her for the team's poor performance the outcry has been growing louder with some even suggesting that Caitlyn Clark's college coach Lisa bler should step in to replace sides in terms of that yeah I think it's just like you can't coach effort um this is a team you can't come out and be laxed basical against like they're just they're just that good they're going to punch you in the mouth and I don't think we had it from the jump and you know obviously that's a little disappointing um but you know that's something they can't coach effort is not something they can coach they can coach X and O's but um they can't coach that and I thought we just could have played with a lot better energy I thought we let little things on the offensive end frustrate us and we didn't play good defense um you know it it was seemed like everything they got was easy nothing was ch uncontested threes we're giving up and ones um you know we put them at the free throw line and that was the key to the game like you can't foul this team they lead the league and free throws attempted I'm pretty sure um and that's exactly what we did um so you know it's not a recipe to to win many game bluda was in attendance for Clark's home opener adding fuel to the speculation however as of now there are no official reports indicating that sides will be terminated or that bla will take over Brianna Stewart spoke about Kate Clark immediately after the game shedding light on how the Liberty managed to contain the young star in her postgame interview Stuart acknowledged the intensity of the atmosphere and the significance of the occasion recognizing the playoff-like environment created by the passionate Indiana fans she credited her teammates pck people are going to go after you mhm whether it's for the right or wrong reasons because they see greatness in you what the WNBA is is measuring one type of greatness against the other greatness am I saying it's right that she's being pushed in the back no that's foul that has no space in the sport and we all know that when I'm watching ESPN and the only highlight you can see is how hard she gets screened I think it takes away from the actual point of Basketball game right I think that's a problem about our narrative right now that we're not using the wave of women's basketball and women's empowerment that Caitlyn brings and really really Amplified in the open eye the reaction from fans has been mixed with many expressing their disappointment in the team's overall performance while some are quick to point fingers at Christy sides others recognize that basketball is a team sport and that the Liberty defense played a significant role in shutting down Clark and the fever the like you know I feel like on top of the world so it's just really cool that I have vets like that that are going to support me and you know they respect me too and um we have a lot of fun as well and I don't think it's like that everywhere and so I feel really grateful to be a part of a team an organization that um you know brings up their rookies and you know they like to mess with me but I it's fun they're not messing with it's fun and you know I wouldn't want to be any however the transition to the professional level is challenging and nights like this serve as a reminder of the learning Co that even the most talented players face
