not without its challenges to make ends meet Willie took on a series of a jobs from rearing pigs with the Future Farmers of America to working as a phone operator trimming trees for the local electric company and even as a porn shop employee in 1,950 after graduating from high school Willie joined the US Air Force though his service lasted only 9 months due to health issues by 1,952 after a series of ups and downs Willie realized the futility of living a lonely life and married Martha Matthews his first wife out of fun marriages the union lasted 10 years and produced three children through throughout the 1,950 RS Willie Nelson struggled to find his footing in the music industry he attended Baylor University studying agriculture but his heart was not in it instead he took on a series of odd jobs including working as a nightclub bouncer Auto Part salesman settle maker and tree trimmer all the while pursuing his true passion music eventually he dropped out of University to chase his dreams joining Johnny Bush ass band and later taking a job as a Chi poob a local radio station with a station as equipment at his disposal Willie made his first recordings in 1,955 titled the storm make an impact but he remained undaunted working as a radio announcer and performing in clubs on the side his persistence paid off when in 1,958 his son Billy was born prompting the family to move to Houston Texas on the way Willie sold his original songs to Larry Butler at the Esquire Ballroom although Butler refused to buy them outright instead he offered Willie a 150 loan which Willie used to rent an apartment in paraden Texas it was during this time that Willie recorded to singles man with the blues and what a way to life his fortunes began to change when Paul busuk a guitar instructor hired Willie to work in his school and bought two of willly ass recordings Family Bible a night life for 150 each Family Bible became a hit in 1,960 marking the Breakthrough Willie had been waiting for in 1,960 Willie moved to Nashville Tennessee but struggled to find a label willing to sign him still his resilience pushed him forward he frequented buzz and lounges performing whenever he could and eventually caught the attention of Hank Cochran a reowned songwriter working for Pampa music a Publishing Company after a gem session Cochran was so impressed by Willie Us Talent that he convinced his boss to sign Willie to pamper music changing willly s life forever willly s's career took off after faren young recorded Hello Walls a song Willie had written this success led to opportunities with other big names in the industry including Ray Price and puty Klein willia songs began to travel further than he ever did becoming hits for other artists his big break came when Charlie dick Patsy kleiner's husband heard one of willly ass songs on a jukebox and requested more Willie played him a demo of crazy which paty recorded making it one of the biggest jukebox hits of all time by 1,961 local Legend showcasing his unique Bland of country fol and Jazz infused music in March he performed at the Dripping Springs reunion a 3-day country music fastival that despite a low turnout inspired Willie to launch his annual 4th of July picnic with which began the following year willia comeback was solidified when he signed with Atlantic Records in 1,973 becoming their first country artist he formed a b called the family and recorded his highly praised album Shotgun Willie at Atlantic studios in New York City the album marked a new chapter in willly Us's career introducing a more personal
