Isle of TT 2022: Gary Johnson

we're talking tt gary johnson's with us gary um welcome back to the other man do you think it would ever happen you know after the timeout two two tts three years effectively though it's a long time in it yeah uh yeah it's been a long two year sabbatical um i didn't know if it would come back if i'm honest you know it's the nature of the beast and the dangers that are present and the ever evolving health and safety crazy world we're in uh you know i was worried it's interesting to say that i mean you're the one who's going around that course that god knows what speeds you know yeah no it's uh yeah it has been a long two years but uh you know also it's give give other things a chance to like my some of the injuries i've had over the years and now they've had time to recover a little bit more i bought a bike ready to go into 2020 and uh i've had a lot of time playing on it so you know i'm really comfortable and happy coming into this year's tt i've got my triumph that's had a lot of work done on it uh but you know my mate chip at hwww in halifax have been they've been working immensely on that bike and and found good games so i'm going i'm quitting on some really prepared machinery uh although i'm doing it myself uh you know always from back in um i'm a privateer but i'm feeling like i'm coming with more armory than what i've come in a lot of years we should talk too much about 2019 okay because you parked that one yeah it was it was a difficult one um i took an injury uh michael the old fox decided to pack his bike the week before in front of me at druids in old park and i effectively hit the back of him flew over landed sat on his seat my with my leg just resting in his rear wheel spinning at about 130 miles an hour and luckily i just passed out and my leg didn't get tangled in his head but i come away with some horrific burns two weeks later you're coming to the tt it was difficult northwest was horrendous um i thought i was in better shape but i was riding the bike with one leg i bent all the pegs on every bike i had because i was overcompensating once the burn was reducing a little bit but still it was still as red and as raw as anything the lucky thing for me we had such a poor year with weather it meant we didn't get to do a lot of testing uh they crammed all the races in over over a few days which made it horrific when we was riding because the intensity but it meant less time with the with levers crunching it and then with my leg bent on the bike it was it was hard work yeah that's in that's all healed now everything's great i'd say a lot of them things with the sabbatical has helped so the build-up to the tt you've got to take it easy right that's what everyone else is saying everyone's trying to hold themselves back not to get any injuries yes what do you do to be very you can't wrap yourself in cotton bought the lads and racing at alton park obviously the meeting before the north west like i did and and took my accident i'm not at alton park not for that reason i'm doing all the work to the bikes and any one of us could pick an injury up we could pick an injury anywhere coming into the tt you know could stumble over getting ice cream and uh more likely with me at the minute but uh yeah i'm hoping to come here okay fresh good bikes really ready and you know sure what i can do now yeah what's your expectations though this year i mean was it three eleven first twenty one first win the next one it's been up and down there right it has different teams good and bad um bought yeah these my 600 scored i've joined rc express the top of them in here um their twin is fantastic dean's had two wins on it ivan had two nearly a third bit of breakdown whilst in the lead on the last lap they've they've gone through the bike but unfolds what happened they've changed the rules a little bit might change it up a bit but i i'm happy that i'm on one of the strongest bikes out there i did a test on it last week i was fast really fast uh so i know where my strengths are coming into this tt and you know i'm going to focus on them and you know try and pull some more podiums back yeah that's fighting talk yeah yeah you're buzzing for this aren't you yeah i am yeah i'm good i'm in good shape uh and i'll be in better shape and the bikes are all in good shape so that's what more can i ask i remember not coming in the biggest truck with the fanciest teamwork oh this is nice uh i'm coming kitted up for good results in the classes
