ITB RADIO: LATEST EAGLES ROSTER MOVES, PERSPECTIVE ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD ADDITIONS

all right football four with Jeff Moser here from the inside the birds podcast let's kind of go through the positions here uh the quarterback spot they kept the three guys hers and picket will probably be active on game day you would imagine mcke is that third guy there you mentioned Will Greer he goes to the practice squad so not a lot there running back Jeff they kept three Barkley gainwell Shipley a lot of times team will keep four they didn't bring back one to the practice squad there yeah a lot of times that fourth running back will be a special teamer or a kick returner but um they have that with their third running back if they want in will Shipley they've got Isaiah Rogers you know with the whole new kickoff format they've got a different uh selection of guys who can who can assume that role or they just don't see it as as important as as the past so uh when you have a guy like this is sort of like the the the cornerback conversation we had about how many you're G to keep when you have a guy like saquon Barkley who's going to command a lot of touches uh back gainwell who's in year four as a proven backup you really don't need to keep more than one other guy and you can stash a couple running backs I think Ty Davis price who I like uh by the way I thought he he's a patient Runner and has a good C would it wouldn't surprise me if there are some injuries and he winds up on the 53 at some point this year and he's good for how the Eagles like to run block um so that that makes sense you can just stash those guys on the on the squad all right M let's look at the decisions at wide receiver they only kept five Brown Smith Dodson cvy Wilson once they got Dotson the other guys that were higher up you know Paris Campbell who's back on the practice squad they get pushed out John Ross ends up not making it but they only go with five guys there Brown Smith doson cvy Johnny Wilson and annias Smith is on the injur reserve so they going to stick with five is somebody else maybe off the streaks coming in what do you make of that well I would think when an IAS Smith is ready to come off uh the wait he's on injured reserve right injured reserve so I forget which that's not the one that puts him out all year though I think he's injured reserve designation to return yeah four to six weeks right so I once he comes back then they will have six or they'll make a corresponding move to get down to five I don't think they're gonna have seven wide receiver so you basically have the five well you figure though if he's out four to six weeks he's eligible to return but if you're six weeks into the season you know is he gonna just jump right in there and make an impact at all this year you would think I mean it probably not it depends on what the situation looks like at wide receiver I would say I mean I think there's an opportunity if he continues to progress and maybe you're not getting what you want out of a Johnny Wilson maybe Johan Dodson hasn't really caught on very well and you want to give this young kid a chance it sort of depends on where the team is at at that point how things are going but you know how it is there's always an injury either at that position or somewhere else that necessitates um you filling a spot so I could see him coming in but that's why Paris Campbell for now is back on the practice Squad because you have a veteran that you can call on if you need uh for three weeks right you get three weeks before you have to sign a guy three games before you have to sign a guy to the 53 uh all right let's go to tight end where they only kept two Dallas got Grant calcatera but as you can see on the practice squad EJ Jenkins who you know had a good camp and then an old name Jack stall is back here so they did add two to this practice squad but they only kept two on the original 53 yeah so there's no way the Eagles are going to play Friday night against the Packers with just two tight ends I mean imagine if one of them got hurt in the middle of the game what are you gonna do not play 12 Personnel package that you've probably got 30% of your offense that you're practicing with so there is a a guarantee that either EJ Jenkins or Jack sto will be up with the team for uh the the season opener now I I feel like that would probably be Jack stole based on experience but remember it's a new offensive coordinator and EJ Jenkins has been in Camp and I'm pretty sure that he made it a difficult uh decision for them because he blocked fairly well but Jack sto has the experience so it wouldn't surprise me if it was stall that got called up and they'll have three of those before they have to make a decision on him but there's just zero. chance that the Eagles are going to go into that game with two tight ends uh offensive line nine I think the starters obviously beckon may surprise that he ended up winning that position but he's there Johnson Keegan Canard no backup center really on this roster I mean really not a guy who's even taken a snap to my knowledge uh in in training camp but they did bring back Nick Gates who has snapped uh McMahon uh who has snapped um but were you surprised at and really none of the Hennessy group of guys that that could play some backup center not surprised um anyone who listened to inside the birds uh when we did our 53 man roster projection we we haggled this one out big time um and I personally cut you know I had I believe to and McMahon getting cut of course Matt Hennessy who did not have a good H Camp either and my rationale was that yes it it leaves you without a backup center on your 53-man roster which they've done before by the way uh two years ago they went into it without you know with Cam Jurgens at Right Guard he had but he was a rookie um no yeah he had never snapped an NFL game to years years ago and they didn't really have a backup center but I had a strong feeling that they were a going to be able to get Dylan McMahon back on the practice squad and he I don't think he's ready to play to be honest he's very undersized centered day three guy nobody claimed him uh the guy I I assumed would come back to the practice squad and did is Nick Gat and Nick gates to me is the guy you'll look at and I thought that to I assume Brett to will still probably come back I think he's probably a little annoyed he got cut after all playing all three positions and he's probably trying to find uh a job on somebody's 53 or maybe even somebody's practice squad somewhere else but if he's back but either way I think with Nick with Nick Gates's experience with two different teams already and he's got a lot of starting experience he'll be just like uh I said the 0.0% chance of two tight ends there's a 0.0% chance Eagles don't have somebody who snapped the ball in an NFL game yeah on their active roster when they play against the Packers and it'll probably be Gates Jeff moser's here uh football at four if of course uh looking at the 53 and the practice squad and what could be next you know defensive tackle they kept six Carter Davis Williams aomo tuy paloto and Thomas Booker uh maybe not a surprise to some people who saw him but they did keep six they added one to the practice squad as well in Gabe Hall uh so that's obviously position that you know they they valued to keep six guys there yeah I'm fascinated to see Mike if Thomas Booker is active um for the first week I think he will be I think that fangio wants to play all six and I think Booker really flashed uh throughout camp and really he's one of those guys that made the 53 because he deserved not that everybody doesn't deserve it but sometime you know Johnny Wilson and ni Smith your draft picks you're gonna make the team regardless Mo in most cases right but Thomas Booker forced them to keep him because he was so good and he had Andrew Deo wrote a great story on insidethe birds.com uh you can read it right now about how hard Booker work work this offseason he basically lived at the NovaCare complex and Vic likes to play a lot of different linemen and you know we've talked about conditioning for Jaylen Carter for Jordan Davis you know the guys who come from Georgia don't play a whole lot so I have a feeling that if all six are active that he's gonna play all six guys and keep that rotation going that one's interesting I thought that yeah that the fact that Booker snuck in there uh and then six on the edge Huff sweat Smith Graham jayx hunt Patrick Johnson now Hunt's interesting cuz obviously I think he's an inactive game day guy you know you had a guy like aora who you did not bring back he signed with Arizona Brandon Smith is on the practice squad Orin Burks you talked about him a little earlier he's on the practice squad so hunt makes the 53 because obviously someone would pick him up but you would imagine that jayx hunt is not a active player maybe on game day you know I don't know Mike I was thinking that um and certainly to make six Active Edge rushers then you have to go thin somewhere else and maybe that means a guy like Booker doesn't get a chance but you know if one of our big questions going into the season opener is what's the fourman rush like and is Nolan Smith GNA make the most of his opportunities and start to look like a first round pick um you know for questioning how how he performed in Camp Jays hunt performed well now granted that was on the third team uh and sometimes the second team but the it's hard to say hey this guy who generated pressure in when we asked him to in his spot we're going to completely deactivate him right on on the season opener especially if as a third round pick he looked like he belongs so maybe they they go lighter somewhere else I don't it could be Corner could be safety where they've kept what five safeties I mean I I think James Bradberry screams for deactivation uh in the season opener if he's still on the roster so you might get a chance to get Booker and jayx hunt on the active roster okay that's interesting now more on that coming up uh in uh the linebacker room white Dean Bon Trotter van suumer we talked about Orin Burks he ends up making the team excuse me goes to the practice squad there um so they kept the five linebackers Brandon Smith is the other one there um and then we'll go to the secondary room where you got slay Mitchell Rogers Cooper deine Kaye Ringo Eli Ricks Josh job doesn't make the team and doesn't get on the practice squad here um so that was kind of a an interesting eye opener when you look at that cornerback room cuz it was all those Corners those are the ones that remained they stuck with uh how many there you got six Six Corners right yeah on the active roster so again that's not you're not going to have six Active on game day so I I would think you probably won't see Eli Ricks if he's still on the 53 at this point um active on on game day you never know maybe there's another area where they decide to go a lot lighter but um I think you're pretty good good especially with the versatility of quinan Mitchell and Cooper de jeene you're pretty good there um with with five cornerbacks all right let's go to safety CJ Gardner Johnson Reed blanket ship avonte Maddox who's obviously could play both corner and safety Tristan McCallum ends up making the team and then you got James Bradberry and cydney brown looms as well uh he'll be on the pup list to start so four weeks at least for him uh safety room interesting you just mentioned Bradberry is even on game day uh how's that safety position look there you also have Kaden Sterns who's got some playing experience Andre Sam a lot of people liked him yeah they're pretty good I I think you know there's somebody at safety right now you hold my feet to the fire it's probably avonte Maddox who's sort of renting instead of buying because when cydney Brown comes back uh they're going to have to and that's on top of the Bradberry move like I you know you don't need six safeties um especially when you have a a cornerback and Dee who you think can play some safety so we'll see what happens but for now you've mccullum's a very key special teamer for them and uh an improved special teamer so I don't know that he's going to be the first one gone from that group Maddox is a guy who gives you value at the moment without Sydney Brown because he can be a backup safety and a backup nickel but when Brown is ready to go uh you kind of Wonder with CJ Gardner Johnson Reed blank ship Sydney Brown and McCullum as your special team or will there be room for Maddox on that 53 well yeah yesterday let's get into this then because uh Roseman talked about the defensive backs was a big priority in the off season that was number one he also explain why Bradberry made the 53 was his answer yesterday enough to sell you that he's part of their plans this year uh maybe if you're also trying to sell me ocean front property in Oma no there was not enough to sell me on that I we I one of the challenges is figuring out his contract the option bonuses when they're due and when and obviously the Eagles have to absorb it but how much a trading team would absorb in taking on um a trade for for James Bradbury I think that's an obstacle and it's probably something hoe Roseman and his financial team can work around as long as they're absorbing the the Crux of the the money which they should but I still will think I still think by the you know I don't know if it's gonna happen by the Green Bay game but at some point James Bradbury is not going to be on this 53 man roster yeah I have a hard time thinking he makes it too I mean wh why do you think they didn't just pull the plug here I think that they're holding out for Value I I think that at the end think somebody's going to get hurt a corner and probably be able to get a six conditional six maybe become a five but say would you I mean they going to try to play him at safety and see if someone wants him there you just mentioned Corner yeah I don't think they're gonna play him anywhere yeah so Oh you mean there somebody else gonna try to play him at safety well I'm saying like you g to Showcase him hey he could play a little safety get him on like like there was very little tape of him playing safety no you got to win games now this is the real this isn't season this isn't training camp you got to beat the Packers well then why would putting a guy out there to to to make some mistakes learn the position right so why doesn't he play in the final preseason game and just lay it on the line I mean just doing the guy a solid no they're just they're keeping him healthy Mike the bottom line is they have no plans for him so keep him on in bubble wrap and see what happens clearly if they're going to trade him it's to a team that that wants him as a depth piece at corner safe exactly yeah this whole thing I think has been fumbled I guess I mean no I I I I don't know I mean I wouldn't have given him any outside corner reps at Camp either I'm trying to get as much work for the ringos and the Rogers and the quinan Mitchells as I can and at that point they were so thin at safety you might as well put him in there and see what he can do just to at least get him on the field somehow I don't blame the Eagles I just their goal was to get him through the camp without any injuries and they did that um anybody that got cut I don't know if you've been scouring that stood out to you that you would say that's a fit well I thought Donald Parham would be a good fit because of um uh because he played with the you know in Kell system but he signed right yeah he signed um anybody out there right now I you know I'd have to take a look at the whole thing you know Noah Brown I don't know where he wound up or if he has wound up anywhere but certainly you know one of the reasons that I was sort of skeptical on giving up a third round pick for Jan doson is that I figured there would be some guys out there that got cut that are have been as productive or equally productive or could fit the system Noah Brown is one you know Tim Patrick doesn't hasn't played for that system but he's certainly a guy who has produced in the league when healthy signed with Detroit signed with Detroit yeah he's signed with Detroit's practice squad yes if I'm not mistaken yeah I don't think Noah Brown has signed but he had a run last year where he was like uh Travis fulam he was like the best receiver in the league for a couple of weeks there the other guy for me and I just throw that out there cuz you know I haven't looked at everything but one name I thought Terrence Marshall was kind of interesting from Carolina as a wide receiver guy could be an outside receiver if one of your outside guys end up getting hurt yeah um you know the Giants release Allan Robinson and Isaiah was it McKenzie or isaah wasn't Alan Robinson the guy you gave me as like the one good Penn State player no I was trying to shove Chris Godwin down your throat more because at least Chris Godwin more recently has had thousand yard seasons but A- robob was a heck of a player for a couple years let's remind the people uh the Eagles wanted Allen Robinson and didn't get him so they had to go for Plan B which is AJ Brown crazy right right funny how that worked out how it works out it's uh football at four Jeff mher from the inside the birds podcast uh as uh week one is getting ready the 53 is uh fluid we would say fluid we'll see what ends up happening they got to have to make some changes you got 28 guys on defense and 22 guys on offense your practice squad is now set we'll see what ends up happening here and of course the guys from the inside the birds podcast uh you got a
