Working for you. Fox two news at six starts now. Well well well Derek efforts here. It's the HD show. Welcome in. Thank you for watching. You know we got a sports going on right now. So this is what we do. We go online, we stream and we talk about the news and we trick our coworkers into casually showing up and oh and shorts. Well Derek, this is a professional show. Try to try to represent that. I said to Dave, I came out with, I wear this right. He goes, oh yeah, yeah, you definitely wear that. I walk in the studio, dude. Looks like a GQ model over here with his suit on. Can I help it? I can't help his $2,000 suit. I owe it to the to the viewers to be professional. I mean, hey, maybe you feel differently. Maybe you. Anyway, we're going to get into it. We got we're gonna have some fun today. It's a little bit looser. HD show. Derek is obviously here. Stephanie is not. We have a busy weekend. A lot of things going on. We're going to get into you know what the arts beats and eats. Yeah Cider mills opening state fair I would say it's the busiest weekend in metro Detroit all summer long. And it so happens to be the unofficial end of summer weekend. But we're going to talk about all the things we'll talk about the weather going on with those things. You got it. And maybe if I have enough time, I'll go run and put a suit on. I don't know, I'm not making any promises. Just you got to stay tuned and watch till the end. We got some prizes we're giving away. No we're not. Are we doing. No, no, you got to give it away. Oh, we just got in trouble. That's right down the hall. Honestly, though, we do have some news that we have to get to, so let's do that. Now, let's talk about some of the things that are making headlines today. This is one that's pretty serious here. Detroit police looking for two men in connection to a violent assault that happened early this morning. These are the pictures that DPD have released of the suspects. And here's what they say happened sometime around 330 in the morning this morning, the two suspects got out of a silver pickup at a gas station near Six Mile and Schaefer Highway and attacked a 52 year old woman. Police say the victim was taken to the hospital after repeatedly being hit and kicked. No word on what they were after. No word on the condition of that victim right now. But police are asking anyone with information on these two suspects to please give them a call. All right, so now we can have a little bit more fun. It's Labor Day weekend. And, you know, we were talking about some of the traditions that go on, specifically one in Royal Oak. Arts beats and eats. Yeah It was a bit dicey yesterday too, with with the threat of severe weather. I mean, with all those storms that happened on Tuesday, people are on edge already. You know, whenever that that. Yeah, that chance of storms comes through. You're talking wind gusts of 60 miles an hour. So I had the organizer of Arts Beats and Eats calling me every 30 minutes last night, giving updates on where the storms are, and thankfully we avoided any of them. So we really dodged dodged a bullet there with the weather yesterday for sure. It is a big deal. I'm talking like 200 national and local musicians that come through, and there's a lot of invested in this and they want to make sure it goes off without a hitch. Scott Wolchek was lucky enough to see some of the events for himself. Take a look, because we saw leaving Georgia and as you're walking between blocks, you'll hear music change. You know, there's a stage on almost every corner and that's just the start from smokey barbecue to green Apple, Faygo and loaded up nachos, hundreds of paintings, sculptures, and thousands of people packing Royal Oak streets. Oh yeah, we're feeling the rhythm because it's arts, beats and eats. It's amazing. I absolutely love this show because music definitely inspires a lot of my artwork. The 27th Arts beats and eats in full swing and festival goers thankful the storms missed. Metro Detroit on Friday night. Now, all weekend long, people can enjoy everything from an on site cannabis consumption lounge for the adults to fun and games for the kids. And of course, you can meet and support local artists like Dino Demi. I love the opportunity to meet and really connect with other artists because, you know, it's a unique lifestyle traveling, going to art shows. So it's so nice to connect with other people that kind of have that same dream and passion as you. Demi uses spray paint to make her artwork. She fills her pieces with secret guitars and Jack skellington's that covers the arts. The beats. Time for the eats. If you're on a diet this weekend, you know just abandon it because the streets are lined with cuisine from around the world. Famous Dave's Hot Mess Sunday to the fabulous Indian delights of Noor Jahan, the tortellini and palomino at Luigi's The Table number two fall off the bone ribs. I mean, everything's here, Scott, and it will be all Labor Day weekend in Royal Oak. Scott Wolchek, Fox two news. All right. John Whitmer I'm surprised they didn't have video of him calling me because he was he was the guy he was calling. He's calling you every 30 minutes today, buddy. Holy moly. Put me on speakerphone. And he's like, Derek, you're on speakerphone with this guy, this guy, this guy. And I'm like, oh, boy. Hey, you lucky, that's not the only thing obviously going on around here. Franklin Cider Mill. It's officially open today. That means fall. That means cider, that means donuts. That means changing colors on the leaves, yeah. It's go time, Franklin. All those people that that love to go down and get their fill of those those things. Franklin Cider Mill is one of the best cider mills in the area because it is it classically represents what a Michigan cider mill is. And you don't have to drive 45 minutes to get there. Typically it depends where you live, but usually, you know, they're out in the in the in the outskirts of town. This one not so much. And it's delicious. Cider Correct. And delicious donuts. Yes. And they still have that old school press. So you can go in and show the kids. This really is so cool, isn't it? Yeah. What's what's the bummer about any cider mill? And I don't know that there's, there's ways around. This is just the yellow jackets that are constantly around. But you know that going in I mean, and you know, I have a do you know, I have a fear of bees. I mean, who doesn't? Nobody likes them, right? I mean, they somehow get me every year. I get stung. Last year this was funny. Last year I got stung here like three times right here. And I think because I get stung so often, I'm beginning to develop an allergy to it. Okay. Which I think like the opposite is supposed to happen. That's what I thought you were going to go with, but I looked I looked it up and I think the I think it can happen where you can start developing the allergy. But it was funny because I got stung right here. And my arm swelled. Oh, so. Which sucks, but not if it's your. You're like, hey, look, look at that. There are worse places to get stung. You're like, hey, honey, is the fridge over there? Like but yeah, I mean it's serious. Those, those yellow jackets pack a punch. And it seems like this time of year they really get angry. So just something to be mindful if you're going out there. My daughter, her birthday is September 28th. Okay. And so we always do like an outdoor gathering for her birthday. And it's always when the Yellow Jackets start getting really, really bad. What is that? We bought those like honeycomb things. They were, to a degree somewhat I guess kind of I guess they I'll say they work because when I go to empty them, there are dead bees inside. But it doesn't seem like it even takes a dent out of when you're having the party. They're everywhere because they're they're all over the place and everywhere. Yeah, so talk cider mills. That's great. Yes. Arts beats and eats. Another funny story about arts, beats and eats. Grew up here. I'm a Livonia kid. I always thought that the beats in arts beats and eats were red like vegetable beats. Yeah, like those were always the product. Is that dumb, Mary? That's dumb. Right? Yeah. Don't answer that. So you clearly had never been. No. Just thinking that. No. But then I got a little bit older and I went for the first time and I was like, oh, I get it beats. It's the music. Yeah. Obviously arts beats and eats Michigan State Fair. Yeah. And football. Football kicked off high school football Thursday night. Did it ever yesterday your team. Yep. You guys crushed them right. Get into it I mean crush dominated that game so much. Oh okay. Do you want to talk about you know we'll talk about it. Let's talk about later. Let's talk about it a little bit later. All right. Let's get into some weather forecast stuff, especially for all of the events that are taking place. And I want to start with this, Dave. Okay. Go for a shot of the Mackinac Bridge. Why is that? Because on labor Day, the famous where they walk across it. Yeah my in-laws have done this. Their brother and sister in law, I should say our old, boss, Kevin. He. He does it every year. All right. He runs there right now. I think I could see him. Yeah, he's right there. There he is. He's the one walking. He's he's a little early, pop quiz. Dave, how long is the Mackinac Bridge? Quarter mile. Three miles. What? Four miles? Five miles. Five miles. I laugh at you, but, the only reason I know that is because when I was living and working down in New Orleans, that was the final question for a trivia night with my friends. Yes, they all knew I was from Michigan. And so they look to you. They were like, Derek, you know it. And I was like, of course I know it. Yeah. And you said, it's three miles. And I was wrong. We lost. Everybody was so mad at me. And now I will never forget that it's five miles. So now you will never forget that. Never forget it. Because you laughed at me a quarter of a mile on television on my show, Michigan game kicking off guys in a little over an hour here in Michigan, taking on Fresno State. Did I look at the national champions football game? Yeah. You got thoughts on that? Is that what it's called? The National? No, but they are national champions and they're playing a football game. What's happening? What the asterisk next to it? No, the asterisk key doesn't work on our keyboard back there Sunday. Forecast Anybody headed down to arts beats and eats? 11 5:11 p.m. So tomorrow's events are from 11 to 11. This should help you plan out your day. If you're going down on Sunday. Very nice day out there. Michigan State Fair. Perhaps, maybe that's more your bag if that is what you are doing tomorrow. Temperatures will top out right near 89. Clouds will get a little bit thicker as we head through the afternoon, and the wind will pick up. I want to talk a little bit more about that. Winds will pick up as we head through the day tomorrow, so it will become a bit breezier. In fact, I think that wind might even be a little chilly at times. That wind will then take us into and kind of usher us in some cooler air heading into the Labor Day forecast your Labor Day Monday right here. So let's talk about Monday here from 9 to 3 p.m. if you are holding off your friends or your family, get together until Monday. Know that it is going to be cooler than it is today. Temperatures will not be in the 80s. Instead, we will top out in the lower 70s. So a noticeably cooler day, especially early in the morning. Let's zoom the map all the way out. Some rain showers down to the south. That was yesterday's storm system, by the way, which began to develop some thunderstorms, but they fizzled out really quickly as they approach southeast Michigan. We do have that second front tomorrow. You saw it make its way all the way across the map. That's why the clouds get thicker. That's also why the winds will pick up. So the winds will top out at like 22, 23 miles an hour tomorrow. That's a little higher, especially when it's a North wind. So it's a cooler wind today. It's not cooler though. How's 85 degrees sound? 85 for the city of Detroit, 79 for Pontiac, 79 for Howell two. Let's plan out the rest of your evening here into early Sunday morning from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. we'll go 81, dropping it down to 63. That will be the overnight low, 63 degrees, mainly clear and comfortable. 79 out there for tomorrow. Sun and clouds as the winds do pick up again. Northwest winds, cooler winds, low 70s kick off next week. We're not done with the 80s just yet and people say, well, are we done with the 90s now? That's a good question. Yeah it is. If you had asked me that, I would have said, Dave, great question. But I was thinking you knew. I was thinking 84. On Thursday we get cooler Friday, Saturday, by the way, next weekend we could be in one of those cloudy, cooler, windier patterns. So I went on the chillier side. I went only 70 degrees. That's fine by me because I do not have air conditioning at the moment. You didn't pay the bill? No. It died early mid-August. Sometime around there, and it's tough to get somebody to schedule to come out there. Now we have somebody on the books. They're going to come take care of it, but we endured that heat without the AC, so we had the fans rolling. So that that forecast is looking pretty good for the Spencer household handyman. Dave couldn't put on a hard hat and a hammer and just start knocking around a little bit. We had an older unit that was we knew we were on borrowed time and that time ran out. It was bound to happen. So it just lasted with the heat wave that we experienced. It's a bummer when it's 95 degrees and you don't have AC though. No doubt. Good on you. A lot of people, you know that were dealing with those storms last week found themselves without power, so they were probably dealing with some of that too. So that's a welcome forecast for those. My sister, she lost power. Yeah. No AC they had a generator. So they had some lights you know smaller generator. Right Right, right. But no AC for the for most of the week. Her her son. So my nephew's birthday party was today at a roller rink. Oh, right. And we get to the roller rink and they're like, we're just happy to get somewhere that has AC. We get their AC unit broken. It wasn't power related. Their AC unit just broke. So there's a big sign out front. It just said no AC. It was quite hot. I imagine that gets you know that's a sweaty sport. You got little kids with red faces going around the rink. Did the music still work? Tell me the music. The music works, the lights, they still they still do. Red light, green light. Remember that? Oh, yeah. With the roller skates, I remember. Did anyone have to use the assist? Both. Yeah, my kids did. I'll get my daughter who's turning eight. She gets a lot of credit because she's never roller skated before. She got there. No idea what to do. By the time we left, she was going around by herself. When you're at a young age, you could pick up things so quick. Isn't that cool? Yeah, it is really cool. And that's fun. That's good. Good family memories. We got like a minute left. Derek any sort of Labor Day traditions that you typically have one weekend, do you go anywhere? Typically we not here. So my sister has a place on the water, we usually go there. So we're going to go there tomorrow. Yeah, I'm actually excited about that because she assigned me side dishes and my garden's been going crazy this year. So many tomatoes, so many peppers. All right, so I have gotten pretty good at making homemade salsa. So you're going to do that? I've already done it. I spent the entire morning making just loads of homemade salsa. It's so good. It's so good. So what is all right. So people watching at home see this is stuff that you're not going to get on any other newscast. What is the secret to making homemade salsa garlic salt. Really. That's liberal. Be liberal with it. Tons of it. Tons of it. Yeah. Just dump it in. That's what I do. Garlic salt. Yeah. It really I think it really. Do you like the flavor? Do you like, what are you wearing? It's not spicy. It's more pico de gallo. It's very chunky. Dave. It's a chunky salsa. I'm down with that. Yeah So we're all going over to Derek's tomorrow. We'll see you guys there. You got to figure out where she lives. That's going to be next on tomorrow's episode. We're going to give away the address. Yeah. Stay tuned. Tomorrow we'll let you know. All right. Well I think I think we had a little bit more fun than we than we, you know, are used to seeing. It's a fun weekend, though. A fun weekend. That's what we should be doing. We should be having some fun. So hopefully you enjoyed it. If not, go ahead and you can watch something. No, no, don't do it. That's bad
