TV shows reviews trivia and many more today we are diving into the latest dark comedy thriller from Apple TV plus the instigators this one's on my radar for quite a while so this weekend I happened to watch it on Apple TV plus and let me tell you it doesn't disappoint at all with the Stellar cast led by Matt demon and Casey like this movie is a wild ride of twisted humor moral ambiguity and Rous sharp bit so let's get into it the instigators tell the story of two key very distinct character a PTSD Marine veteran played by mad demon and an ex-convict and alcoholic Casey affle who have been hired for a heist to rob a mayor office in Boston this your first job wait for a CR change ain't it what start as a supposed to be simple highest quickly spirals into a series of Misadventures involving crime betrayal and some of the very questionable life choices but don't be fooled this isn't your typically highest trama the film masterfully weeps dark humor into narrative turning moments that should be terrifying into scenes that will have you laughing uncomfortably if I'm giving instructions and they're not doing them just say I have a gun what are you doing taking notes taking notes on a criminal conspiracy one of the standout aspects of the instigators is its pitch black humor this movie doesn't just flirt into the line between comedy and tragedy it Dances all over it director Doug Lumen has crafted a story where the stakes are high yet the absurdity of the situation keeps the tone light and biting whether it's a way Matt demon and Casey fle hired to rob a mayor or a bossed robbery gone hilariously wrong or the Deep pan exchanges between Matt demon and Casey fle the movie never miss an opportunity to make you chuckle in the most unexpected moment down on the floor get on I him up got like six zip ties genius I have a gun what really struck me is how the humor is enforced it feels organic coming from the character's personalities and ridiculous situation they find themselves in there is a scene for instance where Damon's character tries to justify a crime with a convulated moral argument and flex character just stares at him in disbelief before delivering a perfectly Ed punch line it's dark it's twisted and it's absolutely hilarious speaking of the cast let's talk about Med demon and casf these two of course are a great actors but the instigators takes it to another level Matt demon as the more simple and quiet xmarine brings a manic energy to the role that's both entertaining and unsettling his ability to switch from being so naive to quickly think about unplanned crime in a heartbeats keeps you on the TOs you never quite know what he's going to do next and that unpredictability is a part of what makes his performance so engaging casy fle on the other hand plays the more always alert a cynical loud Mo who's clearly seen enough of criminal life to know that things rarely go as planned his dry weight and understated delivery are the perfect counterbalance of Demon's character the way he dead pans some of the most outrageous line in the movie is pure gold together they create a dynamic that boths funny and tragic making you care about these deeply flawed characters even as they make one terrible decisions after another the supporting card deserves a mention particularly hongcha who plays Dr Dona rera hongcha brings a unique perspective as a psychiatrist who will go out of the way to help a patient's mad demon problem and the Bob exchange between her and Casey is unique shocking as well as hilarious her roles add an extra layer of tension and humor to the story serving as both as antagonist and a source of some of the most funniest moments in the glor you are driving recklessly I'm in the middle of a high speed car chase think about the person you want it to be what kind of person do you want to be movie the writing of instigators is sharp clever and unafraid to go to the Dark Places the dialogue is Snappy filled with sarcasm and layered with meaning making it a treat for those who enjoyed a world sparing match the director Doug Lon does a fantastic job balancing the movie's comedic element with more serious undertones the pacing is tied with enough twist and turns to keep you hooked from start to finish you walk out with me but I'm their hostage and their psychiatrist you're underpaid yeah no [ __ ] so is the instigator wors watching absolutely if you're a fan of dark comedies comedies of errors and action comedy that aren't afraid to push boundaries this movies is with for you it's a smart funny occasionally uncomfortable look at the lens of people will go to when they are in desperate situation and with Powerhouse performance from Mt demon and Casey fle it's a movie that will stick to you after the credit roles and some of the comedic scene may become a c scene I really need you right now Doc I would be breaking the law what if I took you hostage I mean like you know with your permission kind of conversation is this you're going to love him I know many critics has not given the rating it deserves but I will give it four out of five star here because of its originality
