this is 2024 Carnival and no matter who original who call who coaches no one's watching no one you'll see some of the most beautiful people in the most beautiful colors Carnival is in my bloodstream it's in my system we have to keep shining bright like a light you know respects to the guys who started the carnival ripping Jamaica big up one love is see it one love what the this love you need to happening recently this is the perfect time to show that it's not all doom and gloom here this is my first time coming to Carnival so let's see what it's all about let's go what's your feon for coming year as well no I haven't been here since probably before lockdown okay so yeah I haven't been in ages I was a bit nervous but I was like you know what I've just got out of relationship and let's go have some fun do you find your husband here or how's Carnival work I don't think this is the place to find your husband no it would be nice one in a million but you need to make sure you're catching a anywhere you want this is absolutely massive this is right in the center of knocking Hill but they close off so many roads just for the carnival I don't know the exact rout but got people selling stuff over here and it's on a residential street so yeah the residence if you if you live locally you can just see it from your Ved of window which is pretty cool yeah check it out everyone everyone's I'm remember from probably the early days and we're going to mash up the road today and have the best time in the world yeah yeah I mean a lot of effort seems like goes into all these costumes how much preparation actually goes into today so as soon as Carnival finishes we start so it'll finish so today obviously is the last day then we'll start thinking about it from Tomorrow prototypes will be done in October and be ready by December yeah and I've been asking a lot of people today what's Carnival all about for you it's culture my family is from Grenada we've been doing this since I was 8 years old I'm 48 this year it will never change people don't understand the history of Carnival it's not just about the costumes and the people it's about us coming together as people and and the reasons why we came together there a lot of history in it so yeah that's what that's what Carnival's about to Luna and aora repping Carnival Mania as always the Mania Guardians wow you we sponsoring punch if you're not drinking rum punch at carnival what are you doing doing Carnival prop I mean how long have you guys been coming to Carnival has it been like a yearly thing for you guys since birth we're not new to this we're true to this true to this it's in our blood d right yeah I've been asking a lot of people today what does Carnival mean to you and what about you guys one word freedom yeah there there's no other way to describe it that there's you don't feel as free anywhere else as when you are on the road surrounded by your friends and family listening to so music har on bad is the C and this is my first time coming say what what can I expect going to Carnival you'll see some of the most beautiful people in the most beautiful colors enjoying and and vibing you'll see some of the happiest faces that you will ever see you'll see some of the greatest costumes and you will hear some of the best music best SOA music SOA music all day every day wellow guys hit it here first and it's just warming up there's um yeah all the dancers are preparing here all the floats but man I can really feel the energy here I think it's be a crazy day out and the base of these speakers is super loud it's really loud wow my second time to the carnival her first time first time her first time is your first time is yeah my first time as well how have you found it so far I love it I love it all right yeah it's nice we're just trying to get into the action yeah I mean speaking to everyone it's very much a Caribbean thing but it's very inclusive I think the UK Carnival I it brings everybody together with everything that's been going on recently about our country I think it's [ __ ] our country our world definitely definitely hey guys what what do we expect to see today any Mischief T TI yes representing Trinidad today Trinidad and Tobago yeah all all the nation's out today all the nations are out today it's probably one of the most beautiful atmospheres in London I wish there were more of these definitely one of the things that concerns me most is the fact that you know people with messes and knives you can take them in now without any penalties so that's a great thing so it's a wonderful atmosphere and I hope you have a wonderful Carnival thank you I mean most of the time it's about how dangerous this this Carnival is but it's not about that it's all about the this so far comparatively it has been a very peaceful Carnival and the hope is that it will continue to be just that yeah enjoy yourself man we already [Music] yeah meeting and speaking to everyone it's clear noton Hill Carnival is where everyone gets together no matter where you're from for most it's not just about the parade is something they've grown up with and a way to celebrate their Roots yes so girls what's your theme for today what's the theme for today today is huon which is like the silk Kingdom so it looked at a lot of the um Chinese inspired so all the costumes are inspired by like silks basically and how how many years have you guys been coming to Carnival for I've been coming to Carnival since the '90s wow okay and has it changed a lot since then it has changed a lot um it's gotten bigger brighter a lot more people lot more people traveling to see us and um like we really appreciate people coming and sharing and celebrating Caribbean culture I just think it unites everyone even though it's from the Caribbean I feel like everyone's very inclusive everyone comes every year has a great time so yeah like everyone said similar things like from an outside it looks like it it's to party but there's a deeper meaning no no no for sure I feel like if you if you're from the Caribbean it's way deeper than just a party to us there a celebration because yesterday on Sunday I don't know if you know that is for when they basically got free part of them were free from slaves so that's why everyone was dirty last yesterday and then today's like the rebirth bar so that's why we all look bright and pretty and so on so I mean sometimes this Carnival gets deemed as like dangerous but no one really understands the true meaning behind it I think that's that's really important that's the thing I think if you're with the right people and you're around the right people you're filled of Carnival Spirit it is dangerous of the course but that could be anywhere you go but I mean like some people don't come out for what we come out for do you get I mean so I feel like they spoil it definitely and so far it's been all good vibes for me man of course of course you're it's early you know the bands are coming down nice and early and I think it's going to be a great day you're going to see some amazing costumes today amazing and it's my first time coming to Carnival so I've been asking people what's like the must thing you have to do when you come to Carnival well oh you got to whine on somebody that means dance on them you got to drink something and you had to racial tensions I made it to triny hill where every year the carnival passes through to honor those who started the tradition these are the people some of them here are from the ones who started the carnival they're getting older now this is called the triny hill and a lot of people here are the original Carnival masqueraders and they getting older now you can see they're on the chairs they're sitting down this is how it started the real the real OG's are here today the OG's are here I have one of them as well but we old I heard Trinidad was that the original Carnival is it it was in the' 60s we started a carnival here um in nting hill and since then it's been going on and on and getting bigger yeah so you can see by if you look out there now so many people want to join in and it's the most inclusive Street Festival you can find anywhere in the world big respect to you man it's telling me you guys are like the OG's for Carnival we OG's for Carnival man we've been doing this for years you I mean yeah read the original Rhythm how's it changed over the years has it gone better is it worse yeah it went up it went down but right now we bring it back up yeah this is my first time coming but i' I found it so good like Good Vibes good people listen this hill triny hill TR Hill everybody welcome yeah every in our country we got asiia we got everybody and they speak the same language you s are one love one love I thought today is very fitting about what's going on I thought it's very relatable to what I've been doing yeah but but if you look at what's happening here there's no protest here yeah everyone here wants to be in this Carnival enjoying themselves they'll have a drink but that what it is now back in the days it had issues but now it's just one love and it's a one love movement yeah definitely it's really posit probably the craziest thing I've ever been to positive and when you Pan the the the the crowd of people that's out there is all the races are here yeah exactly like I don't know why it gets a bad SI people causing trouble is literally everyone's like go back to the' 60s and they will use what happened in the 60s to put a downer on it but if you think about it this is possibly a million or two people on on the street you can't get you can't get any Festival where there's 2 million on the street and it's so peaceful definitely so you enjoy yourself you can walk around you can look at the costumes look at the ladies all sorts are going on here yeah yeah yeah yeah this is where these are like the real ogs of Carnival they come every year that's what it's about because in it's the same back in the islands you know uh it's about the whole island family bringing everybody together and not just from the country from all over the world and everybody I'm not going to lie it's been lit it's been lit the weather hasn't been great but as long as we're hot everything's hot yeah do you guys come every year every year what are you saying do
