Start of Show [Music] [Applause] [Music] and we're back craft is back you got is that an apple I want something healthy out of pinski you got an apple you got something healthy it's avocado oh okay avocado well it's on a sandwich I didn't have time to eat today because I was painting my kids a parking spot oh is that a high school no senior thing senior thing yeah yeah oh all these senior Traditions that's pretty cool did you paint anything cool like just as initials or what is there something you American flag the whole spots an American flag yeah 50 stars well I was supposed to do 50 but I messed up so it's [Laughter] 36 you get to gist though you get the gist actually I was going to fix it but I didn't have time so I had to because I was gonna come here 13 stripes 13 stripes are right stripes are right the SCS there's 13 stripes red on the top red on the bottom okay okay good good good good I I was going to there we go well this actually has a lot to do with the complaint that I brought to Kat right before the show started Logistics I don't understand how four teams didn't play ball in early August on a Sunday when the sport is all by itself I understand schedule quirks but I don't understand how schedule quirks can't happen at more opportune times like when it's football season or when it's the beginning of the year and it's freezing in Chicago like how do the white socks and Cubs and who are the other two I got to look it up I'm forgetting is it I'm assuming the Bo and the Cardinals probably and the Cardinals yeah how do they not play those four at this time you're worried about you're worried about the wrong things first of all because nobody cares and the players are like man we get we get Thursday and Sunday off and the air and water show in Chicago is going on yeah we'll take it I mean yeah I mean not one player is complaining except for you Scott I'm just trying to bring fans B baseball and bring the league business which I don't even understand why I care about that I don't work for them anymore but I'm just trying there was 13 other games going on that you could have watched I know but if you're in Chicago and it's Sunday it matters it matters that you don't have ball you can go to the airon water show you went Friday night you went Saturday night Sunday is recovery you go to the Aaron water show on Michigan Avenue watch the planes and all the things happen and you get a nice day off what I don't understand why it matters I don't know we both don't know I don't know who Aaron Waters is country singer all right you guys are just being stupid now but okay no I really I have no idea you don't know what the Aaron water show is nope is he from love Island I see a shirtless guy I really don't know I do not know who Aaron Waters is my competition air and water show air and water I you guys are freaking idiots I'm like AJ this is what you're going to I bet I bet I bet in Chicago that is unbelievable an air and water show I bet that's freaking yeah you guys should try going one time you guys are freaking idiots I love I'm assuming that was some kind of dumb dad joke no I bet it's no I'm saying it's awesome I don't know what that is I've heard of it kind of but I don't know no like like a plane and like yeah they do all the stuff on the water I assume I don't live there I'm not from there you know I watched the games I was just sitting there want to watch the game so they should have put the Aaron water show on on Marquee and whatever networks on the white socks these days anyway let's let's charge the damn M before I embarrass myself and talk more about love Island charging [Applause] the mukie bets is back tonight and he is playing right field and batting second so we thought he was going to take a trip back to shortstop which is where he began his season and made the move in March when Gavin Lux was struggling at the position but here's the move doc said he had a combo with Betts decision now bets right field when he returns on Monday AJ right decision you can put both in there mooki at second playing right field every day for the Dodgers now and into the postseason Charge the Mound - Mookie Betts Coming Back Today and playing RF good uh sure but what do you do with Jason Hayward what do you do with some of the other guys they have that's the question you lose all those guys I mean I guess they all go out but yeah I mean the plan was to play short originally and then I don't know what changed her mind but something changed her mind and made him I mean his his value and everything what he was doing as short was pretty amazing so someone made someone made a decision do they do you like you think this is a last minute thing AJ or do you think they had already planned this when he went down and Gavin Lux started hitting I think part of it probably is Gavin Lux hitting I mean he was going to play he was going to play second but he started to get hot do you think they had already done this and do you think it's also like mookie bets just being like do you think mooki should have stepped up and been like no I don't want to play right field I was planning to play shortstop and I was training to play shortstop for a long time or do you think he's just a good team guy and he's just doing whatever they want I me it seems like he's doing whatever they want I mean last week Dave Roberts said he play playing shortstop I don't know something changed if it's Gavin Lux or Miguel Roos or whoever's playing shortstop in second second base for him but some I mean you could put Muki at short and still have Gavin Lux play second so that doesn't make any sense I don't know I don't know what the the thought was maybe to try to keep him healthier because he's farther away in the Outfield but yeah someone definitely changed their mind and mooki is going to do whatever they asked him to do he already they already asked him to move to Short Stop he could have said no the right field great I think it's the right move I know I'm not the player here and I'm super manager but their defense is much better and they don't have a stud Outfield right now like the guys we're listing here the the setup for them now with Muki just planted in right as a multiple multiple time Gold Glove winner out there makes them a better team Miguel roas actually hitting well enough this year right if he was hitting like last year it's more of a problem if he's hitting like this year with roas and Ahmed and I guess Rosario maybe a little bit I think they're fine at the shortstop position it doesn't have to be an elite hitting position but now mook's planted in right Teo hits a spot for you yep and this is where they can mix and match with the rest until Edmond comes back see how he does if he's going to be their regular center fielder let's make sure he's healthy he's hitting and all that then okay that's a good big three that you have with really good Outfield depth I think it's better they're better chance of winning a championship with him and Wright in my mind this year not if their pitchers keep getting hurt that's that's a whole that's a whole another story but that but why didn't they make this decision did were they not did they not think MI Ro was not going to do well did they think he was not going to do well and that's why they were like mooki you play and we can figure out Outfield and now it's the other way around since mig's done better AJ I think they didn't think he was a starting shortstop every day for them at one point and I think he's proved to them with his 712 Ops that it's worth having him there with a 270 average put him lower in the lineup and go win yourself a title you can't cost yourself a defensive mistake at Short Stop in the playoffs Mookie barely played the position and Muki is one of the best right fielders in baseball I'm also not worried that like he hasn't done it this year he's going to go back out there and he's going to be a top three outfielder in the corner no listen yeah Miguel roas changed her mind by the way he's swinging the bat that's the bottom line and you know right now until Edmond comes back they're GNA probably run PES in center right mooki and right and then they'll mix a match in left field more than likely whether it's a Hayward whether it's a Chris Taylor whether it's whoever they have so I and T well they always can use Teo yeah teo's definitely in left field sorry um yeah I mean they basically picked Miguel Roos over Hayward and Chris Taylor to play every day and when Max Muny comes back it's going to narrow it even down even more so it's a lot of interesting decisions here the reason they originally put Muki is they thought Hayward would hit like he did last year and the defense for mooki would be good enough to get him by well it hasn't been Roos is doing better he's better defensively so we can use Muki and right yeah I forgot about Hayward how he hit last year yeah you were kind of leaning on that I forgot about that yeah but that's your Outfield depth now you know it's your potential pinch hitting all of that that's what you want that's what a championship team does they build depth in that department so I give them credit and what about the lineup move we already knew about this but AJ I heard Andrew fredman explaining this yesterday on Sirius he said teams are gonna have to pay a mookie tax now because we split up the lefties and that was important for them and they think that's a big deal for the postseason they felt like they were going to pick a pocket here and work against Otani and Freeman and even though it's weird to have your best hitter and best power hitter at the top it's not weird anymore is it no no I think that's fine you'd leave sh one you put mookie 2 Freddy 3 T4 and then if Lux keeps swinging it maybe you know Will Smith's got a mix in there I mean they got they got a lot of good options right now to figure out this lineup there when when Max Muny comes back and you have Max t mooki Freeman Will Smith and Sh that's that top six is pretty solid go they don't and they don't swing out of the Z they're not like they're not like big Chasers they're not and Lux I mean Lux is Lux the way he's swinging he's gonna have to hit seven eight or nine so it's G to be Deo well good because as high as we can talk about you know Betts and Freeman they were neutralized last year in the playoffs they weren't hurt it was two games I know I'm just saying just something to keep in mind yeah it's a thing so um yes they swept the Pirates you still don't have a bunch of pitchers that should be back at some point like a Yamamoto Bobby Miller's really struggling I was looking at you know stats K to walk the whole deal I don't think he's close yet and then lastly they lost river Ryan who River Ryan hurt for LA Dodgers comes up looked really good in those what four appearances low one Z ripped off the Padres a couple years ago in a trade with Matt batty going the other way and he goes down with forarm tightness on Saturday and they announced he's done I didn't get the total specifics yet I don't think they gave it out but there he's not coming back this year had the shoulder at the start of the year but that sucks when do we start asking what's going on in dodgerland with their pitching because they got a lot of guys that go down every year it's become remember we talk about the Rays all the time and them guys going down the Dodgers are chasing them for dudes going down a lot I I brought it up remember I brought it up like a month ago it I I remember talking about it but is it it's the same faing what is successful no matter the cost like hey you do this so well do it like whatever it is that slider throw that slider throw that split till the cows come home okay there's a cost there is uh more on this on Dodgers territory obviously they'll cover everything we just said in a different perspective Dodgers territory running right after file territory on the Dodgers territory YouTube channel it'll flip you right over there so we're going to come right back we got plenty of other topics to cover but Yanks next because we have a new ft family show announcement coming up I don't think we'll have time for this later so let's do this right now as we're in the break for the TV side the Pirates got smacked this weekend they played competitively but they're done no this is it what is it seven in a row just you can't do that in August like this and I know it's one I know it's one out of the last 10 they've won I don't know if it's seven or a row yeah you've lost nine out of 10 they Dro below the Cubs they D the Cubs are three games out that's why I know you know AJ was joking around but I'm likey crazier things have happened the NL third wild card spot right now is Braves holding it half game over the Mets one and a half better than the Cardinals and Giants and then there's the Cubs the Pirates are five out they're done that's it the Pirates are closer to the Nationals I mean NL Wild Card Chase they're done no pirat had a rough no they had a rough go and you know they're just not feeling it right now and it sucks you know I wish you know they added they made some small moves but you know I wish they would have done more but they won't you know we talk to Pirates Riders they just don't think I mean they're in last place again the Pirates are in last place they're five games out of the Wild Card remember they were over 500 and they just hit a rut and now listen there's one two three four five there's five teams ahead of them to for that third Wild Card they're just it's it's not it's not going to happen yeah this on them I mean when I say them I mean ownership really you can't support a team at this level like I I feel like we are being too nice with their trade deadline come on you got you got two okay players to give you a little more depth you didn't make a statement you didn't say hey we're going to be a wild card team and I know it wasn't an easy trade market but yeah but there tanking forever you know now it's GNA be easy for them to shut down schemes in what two weeks oh man they can't shut them down I did learn this you can't shut a guy down you I mean unless you send him down for a reason but you can't shut a guy down Allah Billy eper with the fake IO deal shut down until September I guess in September there's some special rules where you can make make a change and shut guys down with like a special roster exemption kind of deal but you can't do it in August because it's you know you get the Billy eper fake iil deal H okay so yeah I didn't know that either so they'll spread out a couple more starts two three more starts and then September 1st that will be the end that'll hurt the Rookie of the Year race which Ken rosenal talked about in Fair territory but anyway we'll talk to Ken tomorrow be right back [Music] Pinstripes Territory Announcement and NY Yankees Conversations with Derek Levandowski (Formerly NYY Recaps) hey we're back on Ft and the network is increasing we're getting close to double digit shows I think it's eight total right now and we've been announcing team shows throughout the season so we have another one to add to the mix our first Al team and usually these are shows that you already know about but they get a little little refresh a little Rebrand and we're going to do some fun things with these shows under our umbrella so the next one we want to announce is a Yankee show ref in the chat I'm looking at you I know you're all about it it's one of our favorite fans Mr Super Chat it is called pinstripe territory our good friend dererk leowski has NYY Recaps running for years on YouTube wherever get your pods and now look at that we did work on that logo props to the team behind the scenes Scott different Scott more talented Scott and many others putting together pinstripe territory subscribe now you can type it in on YouTube you can type it in wherever you get your podcast we're excited to get Yankees Insight from Derek bring him in I need that don't even there he is there he is don't even forget about your SoDo shirt obviously I wore this today for good reason can get this shirt we'll show you the merch options in a bit but congrats Derek we're pumped man it's been it's been a long time coming welcome to a different portion of the fam I appreciate it man uh you know August 12th in my mind since 1994 has always been the day of the baseball strike right the Yankees were 70 and 43 they got robbed of a potential AL East title and now I have a new thing to remember this day for a much more positive thing and once again the Yankees have a chance at an AL East title and once again they have 7 wins so thank you guys for bringing me in as part of the fam I look forward to uh you know coming with that Yankees news every single day like we always do hell yeah and just like 94 we we might have a Yankees what expose World Ser oops not too soon anymore not so much anyway before we get into yank's topics Derek do you want to let everyone know what you've been doing when you started what they can expect because also you're an absolute Hustler grinder as cra would call it post game morning shows the whole deal how can they get their Yanks coverage from me sure so people who watch NYY Recaps uh will be pleased to see that we have a new logo we are pinstriped territory basically I go live after every single Yankees game we you know have a few topics that are going on with the team that we talk about at the top of the show and then we get into a recap of you know the the blowby blow the finer details of the game that we all just watched uh and some people missed and then we'll give away awards for you know player of the game that type of stuff and then afterwards people call in with their voicemails uh and we take those in the morning so we do a morning and a night show uh all the best Yankees news that that you could want and you know we're always um we're trying to keep our heads cool even when the Yankees are are are not playing well but that's not always the case but I'll try and do a better job of that now that uh we have corporate sponsorship you will never keep your head cool you are a Yankees fan you live and die with these guys every single day and you you know you do the postgame stuff what gives you more of a headache thinking about the month that the Yankees went through or a clay Holmes 44 pitch ninth inning oh man that uh we call him cardiac Clay on the uh Channel because he always makes it interesting I got to get a defri off of Amazon here just in case but I have a friend staying with me and he's not a big baseball fan he's staying with me for a few weeks until his house is ready and he has all of a sudden learned the nickname cardiac clay because he always seems to be hovering around while we're watching the ninth inning he's like man this guy this guy makes it interesting uh but you know the month was was difficult but that's part of the ups and downs of the baseball season there's always hot months cold months but clay you know he's a guy who pitches the contact late in the games and he's KN out the best command in the world so it's always going to be interesting it's always going to be sweaty but uh uh you know hopefully he can put together a hot streak like he had at the beginning of the Season maybe run into some luck uh we're going to need him in the postseason for sure so you might need Jason Dominguez and for fans that are unaware Derek's I'll will put it out their favorite Prospect if not favorite player is the Martian been talking about him for years as many others have but I would say he is one of the um one of the most um complimentary baseball analysts out there about dingas I'm a big fan too so want to get your take on where he's at right because he's kind of sitting there just staying warm for I would assume any injury Replacements and do you think that he is going to be a part of the mix at some point soon so just for people who aren't familiar with dominguez's Story the Yankees gave him $5.1 million as an international sigy he was the number one international Prospect he got robbed of his first season in pro ball by covid the Minor League season was shut down but then he kind of rocketed it up through the minor league after that last year he made his major league debut he homered off of Justin Verlander in his first hit bat he's one of the few Switch Hitters these days that hits pretty well from both sides of the plate there was an article in the athletic about how that's kind of a lost art and he's got a very slow heartbeat like he's one of these guys that just seem super relaxed so I think he'll acclimate pretty well to high pressure situations he kind of reminds me of Bernie Williams in that way where it's just kind of Smooth Jazz playing in his in his head all all the time uh and I I feel like like um you know he's going to be a impact player for the Yankees now last year after he came up he tore his UCL he had to get Tommy John surgery he got back sooner than most people anticipated uh but right away after tearing up the minor leagues for about a month you know as he returned he pulled his oblique and we all know that oblique strains can keep you out for a while so he missed about five weeks they were saying it might be eight weeks but he got back quicker than expected once again you know uh I mean on Earth's uh you in Earth's atmosphere he seems to be adjusting well but uh I think that you know once there's a lane for him to get to the major leagues he's just gonna take off but right now he's kind of blocked by uh you well Stanton at the DH spot you got Verdugo in left field obviously stto and judge filling up a couple Outfield spots so he's not quite got a spot to take over yet but I think once he gets back to the major leagues he's really going to take off he doesn't have a spot to take over so Verdugo is just killing it or is it one of those things that they want that depth well Verdugo is not killing it he's been swinging the bat better lately if you look at his numbers over the whole season they're not great but he had about a two-month period there where he was just awful but lately he's been using the left side of the field which uh which when Verdugo does that he's a much better hitter he's hitting those booming doubles to left field that you know go off the monster in Fenway in Yankee Stadium they're falling in the Death Valley area but uh you know he's been playing a lot better and I think the Yankees are going to stick with him uh if somebody gets hurt you know if Stanton pulls up another hamstring or or if you know Verdugo gets hurt or whatever I think you'll see the Martian otherwise I think the plan is to bring him up in September there's another article in the athletic about how the Yankees might be trying to keep his at bats under a certain level uh I think once you get to about 138 at bats I believe it is in your career you're not rookie eligible anymore and if he gets beyond that level this year uh he won't be eligible to win the Rookie of the Year next year now if he does win the Rookie of the Year next year the Yankees would get an extra draft pick because of the new CBA rules so I think they're trying to kind of place him games a little bit too and manage his his at bat totals but I expect him to get some reps in September for sure Derek how excited were you about this weekend I mean judge judge stto Stanton I mean granted they were playing a banged up Rangers team but they did bounc back and and W two out of three and they hit a lot of homers and that's what the Yankees need to do yeah I mean Stanton's coming around he didn't do the minor league rehab assignment and he hardly ever does they have this machine I forget what it's called it's like traj or something like that where they have you know basically they can simulate pitchers throwing their uh their full arsenal and so I guess he felt like just doing that and hitting off that machine would be better than going on a rehab assignment but still it took him about a week to get going he hit three balls yesterday over 110 miles hour he's homered in consecutive games they're facing a lefty tonight in Chicago and I I feel like uh Stanton could could be primed for another home run you know Soto he had a hand injury that's been bothering him I don't think it's one of those things that gets worse by playing I think he just kind of jammed his wrist or whatever and so you know on swings and misses you'll see him kind of shake off his hand or whatever but he had a slump there of about you know a week or so where he wasn't hitting for many extra base hits but yesterday he broke out with a couple of home runs judge went about a week without hitting a home run yesterday he found the porch so it's good to see him hitting the long ball you would like them to do better than five and four on a home stand stand in which you face three under 500 teams but they handled the Phillies pretty well they handled the Red Sox pretty well uh and obviously they're playing the 28 and 91 uh white socks for the next three games so I feel confident that if they at least play you know take it some seriously that has to be a right that has to be losing a game in the next three days is unacceptable I mean you got the Orioles playing the Nationals they're probably going to do some damage against the Nets you know little uh rivalry series there in the Mid-Atlantic uh and you can't afford to drop a game uh to the white socks and let the Orioles go past you so I know there's about you know six weeks left in the season these two teams are going to kind of go back and forth but if you can do some damage against the teams you're supposed to beat then I think the Yankees are going to be in a pretty good position what's the answer what's the answer to protecting judge nobody's going to be nobody's better than judge but when you face teams that actually have a plan actually execute that plan it's walk judge Austin Wells is is that is that really the answer is there an answer to protect judge or a lineup configuration that boony has to put out there well that's been the debate uh among Yankees fans so there's nobody like you said that's more dangerous than judge so anybody that you put behind judge is gonna be a step back it's gonna be like a softer landing spot now Wells has been swinging the bat better he had a double yesterday he's a dangerous left-handed hitter former first round draft pick been hitting for more power lately uh his Ops is you know up over 750 now but like I said Stanton also heating up I think against lefties Stanton can offer some uh crucial protection behind judge because he crushes lefties right and and Stan is one of those guys he legitimately puts your life in danger as a pitcher when you're facing him because he can hit it 120 right back at you right so you know do you really want to to face him if you if you can avoid it you know there's nobody there's there's there's there's no 4040 guy that you can put behind judge right now to you know protect judge so you just got to hope that the guys hitting behind him whether it's Wells whether it's Stanton produce and then judge will maybe get some more pitches to hit it it also helps that they're facing a lot of teams that are under 500 this month and those teams might not feel the need to walk him right they're going to have their young pitchers out there trying to compete I don't expect the white socks to walk judge 10 times in the the next three games I expect them to go after him and try and compete all right last one got a minute it's a two-parter number one Luke Weaver is joining us tomorrow do you have any questions that we should ask him and number two did you see this little move for cam Eden I love this stuff they pick up the pinch running specialist from the Toronto Blue Jays and just have them lurking waiting to potentially hop in the playoffs and just pinch run and grab a couple basis for them when needed yeah so start with the the cam Eden piece in the postseason we all know from Dave Roberts that one stolen base can make a difference right or even down the stretch you know even if he ends up you know affecting the orial series in late September that could you know change the outcome of the playoff seeds so you know I I like the move didn't cost him anything to get him and for right now he's just hanging back in triaa until they need him now as as far as Luke Weaver he's been impressive this was a guy who kind of bounced around he was a starter for a long time uh once the Yankees kind of transitioned to him into a relief pitcher he really added a little bit of extra velocity so I'd love to know where that came from he's been eating his wedi he's been eating that spinach he's bringing it I mean I don't remember a lot of 97s last year but he's throwing 97 now uh to me he reminds me a little bit of Chad green he's got that same kind of high riding fast ball when he throws at the top of the Zone uh and I mean he obvious obviously has had uh he had a tough day the other day but mostly he's been very consistent for the Yankees so I just love to know where that fastball came from yeah it was a brilliant pickup for them I mean he has been worth every penny so it's a good call this is not the same Luke Weaver that we've seen in the past so there you go you get the big the high level and you get the nitty-gritty Derek great to have you obviously you're already with us behind the scenes every day but great to have you part of the Ft fam pinstripe territory welcome thanks guys thank you that looks good you like you see that I like fresh if you're listening to the Pod right now make sure you check out this little breakout clip that we'll show on YouTube it is pinstripe territory get it wherever you get your pods or your shows we'll be right back to go over the rest of the big stuff from the weekend you know one thing I want to ask you talk about you're a forward thinker and I I'm just s here watching it last night I'm I'm having flashbacks not good ones at all and I'm like have you like have you finally figured out like I can't cuss anymore on B but your stuff is nasty like you're like have you f and I say that because you know I did a lot of Defending you about Blake snail high pitch count this and that I'm like listen y'all disrespecting a two-time Sai Young Award winner in two leagues I still think your best baseballers ahead of you but the last four starts bro I've seen you like attack with the fast ball attack attack in the zone more than I've ever seen you do and I'm going forward thinking have you finally realized like dog I'm nasty like I can just go right at guys and and I can get quicker outs because that's what I've seen the last four or five starts and it's been nasty to see yeah I appreciate that that means a lot um I would say uh I mean yeah I've been way more aggressive in just getting strike one strike two with whatever pitch um but yeah I think I was so focused on being so perfect and I was like I know I can spot corners and I was trying to do that so much and so frequently that it was only getting me in bad counts and it was favoring hitters and I was always having to battle my way back um that this year I just said like I need to get ahead stay ahead and just put batters away as quickly as possible I don't know I've said that so many times to myself it's never registered like it is now I don't know what that is but uh yeah I know a lot lately um I'm just I don't care I'mma throw it over the plate I need to get strike one I need to get strike two um and that'll help me get deeper into the ball game [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] better than box scores let's run through some things from the weekend AJ the hottest team in baseball right now Arizona Diamondbacks Hot Streak is uh the Diamondbacks and the padr padr padr they got they got screwed we'll get into that later but they got screwed um the Diamondbacks but there's you know they're only three and a half out they're in a wild card spot right now they're trying to chase down the Dodgers they are playing well they got Rod Eduardo Rodriguez guys back they're the number one wild card right now I mean listen they're they're not a team you want to play they took three out of four from the Phillies and they looked really good they swung the bats this weekend too and they faced the dudes for the Phillies they didn't face like they faced the dudes for the Phillies I mean they fac Sanchez they faced Nola they faced Wheeler They faced all those guys I mean they beat Hoffman right they beat Nola they beat Sanchez so they're in a good spot right now they get Corbin Carroll keep Corbin Carroll going and their hit pitchers stay healthy this is a team that can make another run I'm not saying they'll catch the Dodgers but they can make another run mhm I mean at the starting staff who has a better starting pitching staff right now nobody has better lineup I mean nobody's going to compare Dodgers lineup to the Diamondbacks but the the Diamondback's starting pitching rotation is better than the Dodgers because Dodgers shambles and they're not scared of the Dodgers at all I know the Padre's won the season series I believe against the Dodgers I don't know what the season series is with Diamond Backs but they're not scared of them and catel Marte is Hot Josh Bell is always a Phillies killer so that that pickup alone like when you talk about like the Pirates not making any moves I'm not saying I know what the move was that they should have made but even like a little move like Josh Bell picking him up for this series he crushes the Phillies he always has crushed the Phillies and he came in there and just a new swing every single day and he's just just murdered him and they like that that opposite field home run that Corbin Carroll hit off at Alvarado yesterday that's scary that's like that's what he did a lot last year he was able to do that he was able to go Line to Line dingers and and his base Runnings Elite you did that Off the Bench yesterday you came into the game late crazy right gelle left and then it's like oh we have Corbin Carol on our bench ever heard of him yeah he looks different the last few weeks right before the All-Star break you saw a change and they went over it I was listening to the broadcast they were going over just little some slight tweaks because you kept watching him like is he hurt and they were like no he's not hurt there's no shoulder problem like he had from last year so that's some good depth and the bell edition's been great I mean I don't know now but I know his first seven games he had four homers Jack Peterson's been really clutch for them Marl Kelly comes back yesterday and looked like Marl Kelly I mean on a bit of a count but what did he give him five five and change got in trouble early like it looked like it was going to be like oh great sucks you're G to split the series they came out and they just they nin him but I think to me I think it's catel Marte catel Marte is putting himself in MVP votes he's not going to win it I don't think but win it huh we said last week AJ and myself and he's still I have him number one in my power rankings right now think so I know he just his ankle guy a little beat up this weekend but I think he's okay if he keeps going the way he's going he he's got a chance to win it because that's what I mean do you think it's you think it's recency biased not not I think it's the whole season you throw it in and you count the defense that's where sh is going to miss okay he's so so valuable on D for them you know and he can bounce around I mean yeah I've got him I mean it's close but I'm giving him the edge for me right now and I think is the same no right now yes the P by the way the Padre's have won the season series they're seven and three against the Dodgers Diamondbacks are five and four against the Dodgers so and the Diamondbacks bounced the Padre's last time they played in the playoffs and the I mean the Dodgers and the Padres bounced the Dodgers last time they played in the playoffs so both these teams know they can do it yeah surgeon I don't know if they announ I don't think they announced this yet but I I heard lello say they weren't going to go to a six-man and now with Kelly back Montgomery has been the worst of the bunch because he's struggled but obviously I mean what are you gonna do you're gonna take him out I wouldn't and then the the likely candidate's Ryan Nelson but he's been so good for them so it's a great problem he said he'll keep whoever they bounce you know stretched out so you don't have a lot of teams in that spot right now where you're like yeah they're all good except for this guy but he's got the track record you know there's team that are just like looking for scraps at this point and also shout out Jake McCarthy had a monster weekend too don't talk about him often and he's more known for the speed and the glove and man he had some pop this weekend look at his numbers left on left it's ridiculous he's like up there with yordon left on left who's routinely the best in baseball as far as left on left goes yeah I I've been high on this team all year and right now they are playing it they are flying high took their over again easy another easy one that should we said last Diamond Backs over I think they were they were at 79 or something for the year or something crazy again low number I was like another easy win for the over yep yeah I think you need to pay attention you know to GMS and team philosophy and know that if Arizona's even in somewhat of a range they're going to make moves like they get Bell they get Puck and where if you're you know a fan of what the twins are doing like you know they're generally not going to do much at the deadline that should factor into over unders if you're looking there same thing with bad teams like if you think A team's going to tank like fan graphs projections aren't going there they can't put that in there anyway let's get to uh same division Giants who are playing for the most part really good ball right now and have vaulted themselves back into the picture and they've got the pitching to keep up for the next couple months Camilo dval optioned to Triple he's got a 643 ER in seven appearances since the allstar break we can show a couple takes too that we gathered from socials Enos sarus friend of the show writes for the Athletics said my take on D ball in that League they've adjusted to him by swinging less Camilo Davao Optioned to Triple A by SF Giants and yet he has been throwing fewer pitches in the zone needs to be aggressive in the zone that's the work Matthew pulot writes for NBC said team record in games in which they've pitched this season the Giants are 41 and5 in games that doval's pitch so he's like yeah you got to pull him from the closer roll but it hasn't really hurt the team I mean that doesn't necessarily mean that you don't option the player if you think that he's kind of falling apart and needs to either get himself back together mechanically or figure out a better pitch mix whatever it is right he's not throwing enough strikes it's not doing a ton of damage to San Francisco it's not like you're looking at him being like see this is why they're not a playoff team right now I could really care less what a closer ra is I'll be flat out honest with you I really and I know ER is widely debated it should be eliminated by some people and erra is like one of the last things because look at like has he blown up he's clearly not lost the games for him maybe he's lost blown saves maybe there's other things under there but if your team is 41 and five when the guy that is routinely your closer that means he's getting the job done and he's doing it Hector nerys was a closer now Hector had much better numbers but he threw the least amount of all closers I forget with how many Innings it was he threw the least amount of pitches in the strike zone now it's that splitter that's starting in the zone and he but he would just continually throw it nope that guy didn't swing at it it's okay the next guy will swing at it and he'd get out of trouble so I don't watch enough Giants baseball to say he should have gotten sent down to me my question would be was it just easy because he had an option to send him down or was it necessitated by we have so many other great options AJ he doesn't have an option then you have to keep him up there otherwise you have to expose him to the rest of the league which they weren't going to do yeah I mean just take him out of the closes Ro and let him pitch I don't know I mean sending him down although I did what was it one of their announcers didn't KR or Kyper say they need to send him down and then all of a sudden bam they do it that's it's almost like they knew something right like because you wouldn't go out and say man this guy has been an All-Star closer he throws 100 he has one of the coolest interests in baseball and then oh yeah I think we should send him down because he struggles in a couple games that's not usually how it works but in this case it did and hopefully he goes down there and learns and gets back I mean this guy's got a great arm he's got great stuff and he figures it out and he's back in you know 10 days but my real question is do we think there could be four teams from the NL West to make the postseason could the Giants sneak in there with the Diamondbacks with the Padres with the Dodgers and the Braves maybe miss out the Cardinals miss out and we're we were talking like man the NLS is good and a lot of us picked three teams to make the postseason but do we have maybe all three wild cards in the n West or are they going to beat up on each other too much it's possible because right now just playing the numbers game you've got two teams in a good spot I mean they both are four games clear of the third wild card that's the Diamondbacks and the Padres which we'll get to in a sec so I think San Francisco has just as good of a chance as Atlanta New York put St Louis maybe down a notch but those are the what one two three four teams for that third wild card spot at the moment that's possible a great it's a great question I didn't I didn't really think about brought on Fair territory it's good good question and sending Deval down Cory Cano got sent down I always used this he got sent down in the end of August beginning of September for 10 days sent down quote unquote he stayed in Milwaukee with us he threw bullpens he got on the edge of tronic they figured out his hand placement was just a little bit off got his efficiency back he gave up five he gave up five hits in September and October combined and so if that's what they're doing for dval then I think it's a great thing that they could option option him down but if they're like hey you just got to do well down there that's not that's not helpful for the team at all like figuring out what is going to help him to throw strikes in the zone if that's what they think he needs to throw more balls in the zone then you know hopefully that's the game plan and it's set out and he can be back up to help the team but four teams coming from the Al I mean from the NL West that would be crazy yeah I don't hey I mean the Diamondbacks are getting in in my mind I think the Padres are making the strong case now Lance Linds in the green room so we'll get to the pods and the controversial call from the weekend with the padr and the marlands later let's get to Lance Lyn and the Cardinals coming up next on Ft [Music] all right here we are we're back for now go through some questions here I don't even know if I want to go down this road dagger dog hey guys curious could players or clubs use the different stem cell therapies before injuries to strengthen pre-injury and peeds for a short time after injury surgery what I don't know I I know I kind of know what you're asking but I don't know enough to even pretend like I have a real opinion or thought on this to either of you like never gotot or any of that stuff so I don't anything anything about it never had one never had a cortisone nothing so I don't know anything about any of this stuff we're the wrong group yeah sorry dog I had one I had one cortisone so I could play in the Olympic qualifiers it was in my AC joint my AC joint was on fire like I barely even put my seat belt on got the shot I walked out Never No Pain No Pain ever again like it was the greatest the greatest shot I ever had in my life why why don't we just have those and just when you can only you can only get you can only get like I guess they said like two or three in a year okay in the same spot because it's like deterioration of some kind I don't know we have gotten requests in the past to bring someone on that can talk talk specifically about you know injuries and you know like modern medicine per se in baseball so we can work on that I mean we've had doctors on drct Keith Meister was awesome when we had him on but that was more arm care related we can bring someone on that's more Universal on these topics I do know quickly that there is there have been guys that have gone over to like Europe and gotten injections in their knees and joints that like take this injection and it like helps prolong the effects of wear and tear like meniscus deteriorating all that stuff so guys have done stuff like that but PRP is like a they hope it works also just quick shout out here because probably won't have time for the Brewers but I know you wanted to mention diall Hall I wanted to mention dein Williams picked up his first save of the year on Saturday he's been back for weeks it was like two and a half weeks until they had a save chance for him that's a big addition so is DL though dl's a big swing and Miss guy if you have him you know for no starting pitching and he he left Lance Lynn Joins the Show Conversation the game I mean he got the loss yesterday but nine punchies he almost got to 100 pitches and his first first game back like to me that's huge they need pitching they were deciding up until about a week or so ago if they were going to have him as a starter reliever so might as well give him a shot nine punch he big yeah Lance Linn coming up here we go back on Ft Lance Lynn from the St Louis Cardinals joining us right now Lance how's your summer going how's life back with the St Louis Cardinals obviously we catch up with you every few weeks but you know has it been cool to reunite with the ball club and of course be in contention for a wild card or a playoff spot whatever you want to call it yeah no it's been good uh being back in St Louis uh you got craziness now as like kids start school next week so I don't have to uh I get to be there for the first day of school so that's been been a while since I've been able to do that so I'm looking forward to it um we got a little chance to make a push here for a wild card spot maybe even make a run see what we can do get back and uh you know win the division so it's been a fun summer hopefully we can keep it going so wait you you're going to make it for the first day of school are you packing lunches are you what's what's what's that what's that look like are you going into pink Bronco or you don't know yet I'm I'm I'm sure that the two uh girls will want to go on the pink Bronco first day uh we got uh you know shapes to make uh lunches with you know you get your your star sandwich shape stuff like that so we got all kinds of stuff going uh going on this week getting ready to go what's your go-to sandwich uh for me I'm a I'm probably a turkey uh you know a turkey club person that's the if I'm going to go to uh what do the girls want you know Jimmy John girls get whatever I make them really I I you you're smiling like that's the case no chance you got a pink Bronco you got a pink Bronco that they wrapped I heard they said the same thing they go we'll eat whatever we tell you we want you to make for us yeah I can't I mean I can't even get them to eat like peanut butter and jellies these kids um so uh we're working on figuring out what their favorite sandwich is because uh you know they're they're not wants to just go in there and eat deli meat okay what are what are kids eating these days like is there like a cool is everything still the same from 30 years ago I don't know I have two teenage boys they eat like is there any is there any food that that the kids are eating now that yeah Uncrustables or whatever are like the thing now it's like just a peanut but and jelly just straight straight to go that's the easiest one we us to get lazy PB&J we used to get those on the plane all the time Marcus hannel the Brewers the Brewers bullpen catcher would slap four of those things without even before anything then he'd get his chick F then you'd get the meal M anyway all right I I'll try yeah exactly that's the easy way to do it it's on the go it's wrapped up all right I'll try to do a little baseball here so we haven't had Yan since the trade deadline what's it like to have Eric Fetti added to the mix and the rotation here no you're looking at our additions were all you know things that we needed uh you know uh fetty was Al a good good g at the time um you know we knew I was dealing with a little banged up knee so so I think it was uh you know pushing that across was was something Mo was really into um then we added uh we added Armstrong and we had a fam so we got to you know we hit up some holes that we we created um by injuries and stuff like that and uh hopefully now we can kind of get guys back healthy here and and make a push down the end when are you pitching forget those other guys are you done for the year or what let's go I don't think so so I got a bullpen today so we're getting back on the mound uh intensity wise seeing where we're at and then hopefully that leads to a better idea when I can be back uh hopefully within the next uh you know time or two through the rotation I can't come off till Friday so uh I got a few more days here that I have toh wait it out for sure I mean come on now let's go I mean you're getting soft in your old age I don't understand 15 day I man you you got to wait it out all 15 days at least they said H how how often are you throwing during this because it's not an arm injury but obviously they you know for everybody who doesn't know they usually say well you know if your leg is hurting then it'll affect your arm how much are you throwing and how much does that affect your ramp up then I think yeah the main thing is the the first uh five to seven days was no no throw anything like that so trying to make sure you do all your arm care stuff so when you do jump back into throw you're ready to rock um um the last week I've been throwing I did a little Mount catch over the weekend everything felt uh you know solid so now it's on to on to Bullpen so like you said the main thing is you won't want to something else to you know take the force of trying to you know ramp up the arm and you know who knows what else will will go especially at my age as AJ likes to say and tell everybody how old I am so uh you start putting pressure on other things that aren't used to it you get yourself in trouble all right I got a question about Tommy fam first off did you play with him the last go around with St Louis you had him back in the day right oh yeah Tommy fam and Lowa in 2008 so that's how far we go back nice so were you excited to see him back in the fold and we had him on you know maybe days after he was dealt back or no it was days before right right before he was traded I feel like he's one of those guys that's like I'm a misconception I am misunderstood and when I'm with teams I mean he's not going to say it exactly this way but they love me my work ethic the whole deal and I don't know what it is but you know if you talk to former teammates of mine you're going to hear good things so what's your take on all of that Tommy is all those things man Tommy uh shows up every day with the one intent and that is winning and if you're not on board with that uh he will let you know so uh I've always respected him from the you know time I got to know him in the minor leagues all the way up to the big leagues he he worked his butt off to become the player he uh is and to have the career he's had and he's not going to take you know any uh you know he's going to be brutally honest with you when you ask him a question and uh he's going to be Unapologetic about how hard he's going to work and his desire to win and that's uh you know a fun teammate to have around for sure who's more edgy or Unapologetic Lo Tommy fam or today Tommy fam uh today Tommy fam Tommy was always uh you know always working his butt off U trying to figure things out and then once he figured it out he wasn't going to apologize for for wanting to be the best player he could be uh you know early on uh he struggled with you know certain things and had some some eye stuff that he got all figured out and did a lot of work and a lot of things on his own to get him where he's at man and uh you know it's a very uh you know watching him from that point now is is pretty cool to see how how you know what career he's made for himself all right let me ask you this so you had me and Tommy fam on the same team at one time so who was worse worse oh man who was worse it is it is funny I would say that you uh Tommy I don't think Tommy is hated by every other team like you were every other not every other team every team not every every team so um yeah I would say uh you had that you definitely played the villain way better than than he does for sure yeah he tries to apologize for Stuff dude no no it's not it's not how it goes yeah but he's kind of like it's like hey I'm sorry I'm not sorry so I don't know if that even counts maybe that's why maybe that's why Tommy and I get along so well I don't know oh yeah makes we talk to each other we talk to each other we never apologize for what we say and then we just get over it and move on yeah there's no hard feelings I'm G to tell you what I have to say and if you don't like it uh I'll see you next time yeah are you going on rehab uh as of right now no the so obviously it depends on how long it takes so 15 days should be in the realm you know obviously if you get to that 25 30 day then you're going to have to you know uh do a little buildup so right now we're on a good Pace to not have to go on one so um hopefully this week goes well and I'm back in there uh here shortly you just don't want to buy a spread I get it dude it's it's it's unbelievable like you just don't want to go down to the boys in Memphis or Springfield or wherever your guys a you know down to Jupiter like man I gotta buy a spread it's gonna cost me you know Diamond's not allowing I'm not worried about uh buying spreads in the mar leagues and all that I'm just too old to be Wasting Bullets and and Rehab assignments to be honest with you it's not going to get anything out of that for anybody when do you when do you know when do you know if your stuff's going to be good enough to be like okay I'll go rehab against the Reds I I'll go I'll go rehab against a big league team like are you are you able to figure that out in your last Bullpen and say okay I can do this yeah for me it's it's all about where you're at physically you know if you're healthy or not um and if you have for me it's in a spot where I'm not I haven't been down long enough to where uh need to go on a rehab assignment but that being said if I'm in a point where physically I got to work through some things then I'll have to go on on a rehab assignment so right now we're in a good boat to probably not have to do that but if that is the case you know just to make sure I'm not putting the team at risk of losing a game or anything like that I'll definitely make sure I'm fully ready to go um before I come back and if that involves a rehab assignment then so be it but right now we haven't had the time off uh to really need to build back up either hey I got a question for you about a player who's been in the miners for the last several I don't know I mean it's been a minute now weeks months whatever Jordan Walker we just saw the announcement like 10 minutes ago that he's called back up to join the big league club so I want to get your take on what he's like you know he doesn't do many interviews or at least not yet and you what you've seen from him because he's super hyped he's super young he was option last year option this year now and comes back up so you know have you had a lot of interaction with him uh yeah I mean obviously early on you try to you try to get to know guys uh being over on a new team and all that um he's a great kid he's got a great work ethic I think it's all about making sure that you got everything properly in line for on game day you can go compete and when you're young it takes time to learn those day in and day out things uh be able to go with the flow of the season of how guys are pitching you um you know what each team each guy has has the bring you and stuff like that so I think that was the big thing he got uh sent down to do really learn what he needs to do each day and then also what they're going to try to do to him each day each team has different you know styles of pitching him and each guy has a different way of going at him and knowing those things so you can make adjustments on the Fly and you know obviously haven't seen him pitch or seen play since he got sent down so I'm looking forward to him coming back cuz if that that guy gets going that's a that's a huge bat for us from the right side of the plate uh down the stretch here all right Lance a couple quick ones for you one why'd you drive to Cincinnati they didn't want you on the team playe or what no we had off day so uh we I got a nice Sunday at home after the weird Friday Saturday uh Series in Kansas City so the beautiful part about living in the middle of the country you can drive everywhere in four hours okay so I know they just didn't want you on the plane it's okay we get it what what did you what did you do with your 2000 strikeout ball um I have it getting uh getting all this stuff put on it and it's going to go with my jersey and it will be in a case in the uh in the basement come this winter okay can you get to 3,000 yeah probably not no I don't plan don't play until I'm 50 like 48 right now pretty darn close so there's no way getting to 3,000 okay good good answer good answer all right and then the Olympics are just ended I don't know if you watched much of it uh but you know you watch break dancing and stuff that you haven't watched ever except for those like 17 days when they're on and then everyone gets all excited for four years it goes away but the next Olympics is baseball would you support major league baseball players being in the Olympics because I'm all for it no absolutely um I think there's a it' be cool to see if there's a way to do it um obviously you know it's in the middle be in the middle of the season I don't know how it would break down of how long you could take off uh to get it done but that would be cool I mean definitely be awesome to see uh you know every team having their main guys in the Olympics for sure what what do you see like what would you I mean I know you're just talking from the player side it's not like you're in a negotiation I don't think anybody understands yet but what would you think the percentage chances that something gets worked out I mean if the scheduling part gets figured out right where they have a little bit of a longer All-Star break they Bunch those teams and those games together during a short period of time obviously it's an LA so that helps so maybe you either don't have an All-Star game or you have it in LA but I mean I'm assuming you know some of the the roadblocks are like MLB not wanting to miss any games so it has to be the same number of games for the season and insurance money is always fun Ty yeah that's so I think that's probably the best I I if you ask me if the owners are going to be on board with this I'd say it's very slim to to to have it happen uh but it would definitely be cool I mean I don't you're looking at the Olympics man if they could figure out how to just shorten the season by 10 games uh that year and then next thing you know it's like hey we're you know making a move just to make sure the Olympics and how is it not growing baseball for them even more for having their best players in the Olympics that's my that's my opinion but who knows what will come of it uh it would be cool um it' be definitely something I I'd enjoy watching from the couch because I'll definitely be done um so it would uh you know I think as a fan it would be awesome you'll be done but they just called me for USA handball what are your three current teammates that you're going to take to win gold for USA in handball in handball uh you you got to go tfam right off the get-go just because uh it doesn't matter what it is he's trying to win um i' probably bring uh Mason wi also um and then who would be because I'm I'm definitely probably not playing so I'm just going to be watching from the side uh who's my who's going to be my last guy here I'm going to go [Music] with oh man that's a tough one there a couple good ones there um as of right now I'm gonna go with I'll go with uh Victor Scott my three oh Victor Scott for Speed yeah yeah taking Jordan Walker be goalie Jordan Walker let him stand in goal and be like ah no one pass he goes that's a good one I mean that might be my spot though you know just stand there and get away just wide creating the angle I like good idea I like that yeah if you give me four years I can get wider too for the Olympic problem so AJ not Pitch until he's 50 maybe handball at 50 maybe hey we see whatever it takes yeah yeah I can't really see would have to run up I guess he would have to be goalie because he couldn't run up and down the court right so well he could it just wouldn't be very fast yeah it's timed like it's fine he's not it's not a race it's not suicides right I like it well Lance awesome catching up with you as always um get back out there soon uh and we appreciate the time as always dude good to talk to you appreciate it Fizz thanks for having me thank you Lans ly from St Louis Cardinals with us on Ft swinging right back Olympics for MLB players in 2028? AJ Olympics 2028 MLB players yes or no oh hell yes I want it it won't happen but I want it well that was my question the allar break make the All-Star break 10 games you could figure it out how many other teams play a game a day you could definitely figure it out if they wanted to but they're not going to but oh I want it I want it because the WBC the problem with the WBC is the Americans don't bring their best team right Japanese and a lot of these other teams they're bringing their best dudes right but you get starters that were built up to 100 pitches they could give you multiple Innings the players are in the middle of the Season let's go and I think most players would do it I just don't think the teams will allow it I think they will I'm I'm optimistic for it because there's going to be some kind of Kickback they created they created the WBC and so that's their biggest from the people that I talk to that's their biggest hangup not the insurance part of it the insurance part of it is kind of through the Olympic Committee kind of through USA baseball kind of through like there's there's other caveats going on there but it's because the WBC is owned by Major League Baseball so that's where and it being two years I mean it's 2026 is the next WBC and then it'll be 2028 so there'll be a nice Gap there I think there's a lane I think there's a lane and I'm hoping it happens I mean I think the sport is smart enough to understand that it makes sense you grab attention the the same sport that didn't have four teams playing on a Sunday and in August correct okay gonna eat my words on that one maybe there was a little sport that on Fourth of July has like one night game that there's no other games happening same same sport that's planning their largest series of the year around another sports schedule the same sport oh well competing with the NFL is challenging well then you're not competing you're not competing if you're if you're quitting if you're quitting yeah but how many NFL games were this past Sunday oh that's that's a completely different AR that's a separate argument none no or did they have preseason games I don't know they had preseason but I don't know when they were point is preseason were Saturday there was some Saturday I know that this this was the time but anyway ah I'm torn I'm gonna say yes I'm gonna say yes they're GNA get yeah yeah I think they figure it out I think it's too important to miss and it would be team Poland team Poland managed by AJ pinski and they'll have more wins than the no I don't want to say it yeah I'll say it you know what I was gonna say it's not no can't bring them me Padres lose on overturned HR call all right guys help me here so the Padres are playing great ball we mentioned the Diamondbacks earlier Jackson Marill is insane right now with the clutchness but they fall on Sunday and they're down a run there was another comeback from San Diego solo home run from Kim ties up the game off the top of the wall nope just kidding it actually hit Kyle Stowers off his glove and that's a ground roll double thoughts two two-part question here Katz I know you commented on this tweet that we put up there right call and should it be the right call so I think that's always important too like you can review things this this isn't the I don't know whatever some ancient scripture like if we feel as if this is stupid then let's change it I mean I think it should be a homer I think I think it's unlucky for the team that it's against but I think it should be a homer but there has to be you have to have lines and rules like like you saw the fence there it's like fencing and then there's a pad at the bottom if it hits that pad at the bottom and bounces up and hits hits the left fielder and it goes over no I don't think that's a home run but but to me that hit the top of the fence the Fielder jumped to try to hit it even if he was on the ground and he hit it doesn't that doesn't matter it went over and so that's what I'm not that's what I'm confused about it's just an awful call I don't care there's no way to there's no way to justify this call it's a home run didn't hit the ground it didn't I mean why is the Jose cono won a home off his head then someone explained that to me nobody can explain that to me there was one a couple years ago where the Detroit guy tried to grab it and knocked it over that was considered a home run I I don't understand the ball didn't touch the ground if the ball goes and sits on top of the fence and rolls and rolls and rolls and then just Falls over it's considered a home run if if a guy jumps up and hits off his glove and it goes over the fence it's a home run so explain to me how this wasn't a home run I I can't figure out how this was not a home run that I can't either and and I couldn't find an explanation I have a text out to somebody hopefully will give me an explanation but the only thing I can think because you can't you can't hit a home run off the facing the facing of anything it's just like you can't you can't catch a ball off the net I know we we say well that's obvious duh but you can't catch a ball off the facing of the wall but the top of the wall is supposed to still be in play and to me that's the top of the wall I get it if you watch it in slow motion replay the pad instead of it being the top of the the wall it was turned like this so it looked like it wasn't the top of the wall so that's the only explanation I can think of that that because there's there's an example of we talked about before the Jose Ramirez hit a home run the left field in Detroit and matok was it Mikey matok that was a player yeah LSU and then a little bit in the bigs yeah for the Rays and then for the Tigers he was playing left and it hit the wall hit the top of the fence in Detroit and he he was running back and he jumped to try to get it because it would have bounced past him and back into the field with his bare hand and it went right over the fence and they called it a home run to me exact same play so did they get that one wrong or did they get this one wrong or should they both have been home runs to me this is a home run to it's a home run it went over the fence I don't understand why what what's the what's the the the the the question the ball went over the fence didn't hit the ground it's a home run I I I don't I don't get it I don't understand he didn't catch it he didn't jump over the ball went over the fence yeah he hit it yeah he hit the fence and knocked it over it's just bad luck Jose Cano's ball wasn't going out hit him on the top of the Noggin and bounced over the fence but that was a home run that wasn't going out why is that a home run this one's not that one hit that hit cono first this hit wall first so what I agree happens if a ball hits what happens if a ball hits the top of the wall and bounces over it's not a ground roll double mat correct Matt D you you ever see Matty Das where he was running back and he went to catch it he bobbled it he turned and he turned his glove and he like flipped tried to like catch it behind him and it went right over the fence that was a homer that's a homer yeah no this this is bad and if if we're going to play you know super specific rule oh this is not how it's built okay well immediately fix it it's bad call and it cost him the game would have tied up the game instead they fall on Sunday some sports books voided that game too by the way no way just just so you know they they voided the game wow all right so a lot of people have spoken that should be fixed maybe we'll get more of an explanation at some point all right Fans entering the field illegally let's get to fans on the field there were many fans aren't supposed to be on the field just want to throw that out there want to start with San Isco yes we're not promoting this by the way we're showing it no we're demoting this but yes we can show it here's the San Francisco dude we don't show this often no this is big this is like the Olympics o also I mean you know what happens like you get arrested and the whole deal so I don't think we're going to be breaking any news that it's not a good idea was that Rowdy was that Rowdy going for a going for a Fly ball AJ's [Laughter] line Jason benetti was talking about um that situation there because it was Tigers Giants the quote what Parker Meadows did the other night in Seattle and robbing a home run this person was unable to do he left something on the field it is a wedding ring whoever chose that you know life choices G so got to think about that one AJ and then we had Chicago too oh yeah we had two in Chicago in the same half inning idiot absolutely idiots the first guy was putting on a show juking and you know he looked all cool uh you know running around the poor the poor security guards were chasing him all over the place and then the second guy jumped off and he didn't make it he didn't get up he blew his leg out he was on the ground that's second time I've seen this I've told the story where guy in Kansas City when they used to have the rubber warning track jumped and broke his leg and they had to card him off second time I've seen it now and in Chicago there's a wide gap between the fence and the field people think it's like stands fence field it's like 4 feet 5T so you got to clear that and like the eight or n9ine foot wall however tall the wall is so it's a long jump this dude cleared it Bang Pow Snap On The Ground handcuffed zip tied under the cart right to jail will not get $200 does not pass go do you feel like there was stadiums that you thought people ran on the field more at different stadiums like was there one where you're like I feel like every other time we come here somebody's running on the field Yankee Stadium there was a bunch of guys I remember going on but not not really not there's not a ton Yankee Stadium I've seen a few in Boston come out of the right field and run around a little bit um but there's not a ton because security guards usually do a pretty good job and and the other thing now is like fans know they're going to jail when this happens so I don't know I I I don't do this just don't be an idiot and don't get on the field you're you're just stupid covid Co the dude climbed over the green monster down underneath the scoreboard and he was hanging over the bleachers during Co so like all this was going on and like this dude's like the game stopped I don't know if you remember it but I do kind of remember it it was a Yankees Red Sox game in Fenway it was it was crazy I felt like Atlanta I felt like Atlanta fans were always coming on the field but that's the freeze he's allowed he's allowed the field he he's allowed but it always was when they would do the tool race whatever it was the tool shed the Home Depot tool race or whatever and they'd open to let the tools out and somebody had jumped behind the fence there and just gone and those dudes the security guards loved it they lived for it they were cleats they were like I wish somebody would ter Tate office linebacker you ever seen those they yes yes just out out there crushing people that's those D want from a while back I think early YouTube days but actually that makes sense I mean Dad joke but they're like all right time for the tool race and all the losers in the stand are like oh that's me everyone calls me the tool jump on the field but in all seriousness it's I got to run out the field one time and crush the the I think the hammer when I played there oh in Atlanta like when they were running you hit the hammer because the drill never won two bit the drill so it was the last game of the year and I was like oh I'm meant the drill win I was hurt I I got smoked in the knee the night before and so I couldn't play so I walked out there and I walked out of center field and they were running and I just full dropped the hammer like smoked them and the other guys turned around and ran the other way and then the drill won for the first time like ever wow AJ do we have video of this I need it youber did the kid make a noise when you hit him like he was like you need to hit me hard I was like be careful so I like clothes lined them no it's on you you can find it on YouTube I came out told you that you spoke to him before are you okay I'm take it easy he's like yeah I'm like he's like take I'm like I'm gonna take it easy and he said no like let it eat and I was like all right and I clotheslined him like I clotheslined them hard we we need this and then the other the other two stopped the other two stopped and ran the other way and the drill won yeah the drill kept going because the drill had like he has like the droopy drill bit Yeah at the drill and the fan and and the fan went crazy because that year the bravs were brutal and the fan went crazy did you talk to the guy afterward and be like of course he was fine he was like that was good that was fun yeah of course I talk to him after that's awesome but I go to Milwaukee on Saturday I'm I'm gonna see if I can get in the the sausage race need it need to see it I'm surprised they don't do that more often where you get a CB appearance for one of those nobody knows it's you I gotta be the Polish guy right 100% obviously yes I'm rooting hard for the Polish Polish sausage this weekend all right and last ly do we do we think the Cubs have a chance of a wild card spot they're three games out and also do you feel like they could use one other high leverage reliever like a mark lider Jr just to help win a few games late such a troll I am a troll because I'm confused you acquired paradus and these are long-term moves but Mark ligher Jr has been one of the best swing and Miss relievers in baseball this year and now he's on the Yankees with his split finger I don't think they have a chance and I say that because they're 8-2 to get to three games back three games three games back now they're jum they got to they gotta be hot they don't have three teams to jump they have four teams to jump they have to beat the Braves the Cardinals have a much better much better uh run differential the but that doesn't matter anymore like now wipe that all that's past I you know I'm you know me I'm not a run played the white sock the last two games let's not forget yeah it's to game I just I just think it's too much with too little I think they have a great rotation and if you take away from any team's Bullpen it is really hard really hard to succeed without supplementing something that you took away my thing was AJ I mean the offense for the most part for most of the year has been terrible but if they fall a game or two short it's a team that could have been a pest in the wild or you know in a wild card series they've got pretty good start pitching and then you know if I'm a Cubs fan I'm going to be pissed that lighter got traded because I just hate the mid-range moves where it's like we're adding but we're subtracting I know you know Ken always talks us out of just saying Buy sell but I like Buy sell you're either buying or you're selling you don't do they went in between they tried to thread the needle that's why they got rid of never works it always it always looks bad like it's it always Burns you just do one or the other for me they knew they were playing they knew they were playing the white sock too that was two wins they knew you know they're they're trying they're trying but I I I just don't think offensively they're going to be able to do enough I think they're still short offensively I think they're starters their pitching has been good they're Bullpen listen I mean do we all really trust Hector nerys at the end of a game I mean he is a tight R back we talk about other guys but he he walks that tight rope he somehow gets out of it um but yeah I mean I think they're going to be short and they could have done more in the offseason they could have done more at the trade deadline but they didn't so we'll see did rest of August at Cleveland okay that's tough home against Toronto home against Detroit at Miami at Pittsburgh and they'll be in a different spot probably ski Liss at that point at Washington different team right now than they were for most of the Season September's tougher you got three against the Yanks the Dodgers the Phillies are in there but then Pittsburgh Colorado Oakland Washington Cincinnati that's a decent schedule to finish your season with no I'm not I'm not saying that they're going to be in my point was more if they miss out by a game or two I'm I'm pissed if I'm a Cubs fan you should be a pissed no matter what if you're a Cubs fan more pissed because they're I'm pissed about the trade deadline I just I don't like the way that teams are like we're not going to add much but then they did and it's it's a long-term ad okay but it's also a short-term ad isak pus is really good this year right away yeah first game and you're getting him for three seasons I'm including this season right for me I don't like the mixed messages and I think it's teams I guess don't care too much about PR but I just don't understand why you get rid of one of your best relievers you must really really love the prospect you have to I think they just knew they could get something for them I don't I don't know that's not what you do though that's it's just weird yeah but they were out of it they were like you're talking there're three games out now they went eight- two essentially since the All-Star break it's it was more than that I'm not sure exactly what they were the Braves were three and seven during that time sure even if the Braves win two of those games the the Braves gave the game to Colorado like if if they win two of those games they're five out and we're not even talking about them to me it's much to do about nothing okay fine that's what I do much to do about nothing trying to get something out of Levi Weaver great writer for the athletic coming up next [Music] [Applause] [Music] you want to talk Braves for a hot second sure what a brutal loss that was yesterday yes my go you have a six-run lead in the eigh and you lose against the Rockies too with one out keep in mind so obviously I did the White Sox game cubs' game the White Sox after trailing after six innings are 0 and 55 I think at trailing after seven they're like 0 and 60 something and then after eight it gets even worse that's how rare it is to blow any lead late in the game right like teams don't lose these games now you have a six-run lead in the eighth inning like that's got to be locked down shut down see you later I saw m win on the iil today but man that just can't happen this is they are leaking oil big time in in Braves country two things that will always happen and should always happen if there's ever a Cubs White Soxs game it should be AJ calling the game no matter what and no lead no lead is safe in Colorado if you watched the game I get it Solair hit the home runs like he had a great series they just Dink and dunked the huge Outfield a day game getaway day the outfielders are exhausted from running the entire series ball goes in front ball goes in the Gap it's a triple instead of a double runs are scoring from first that is Colorado I don't care about the home runs in Colorado to me the size that Outfield is never really talked about enough and those dudes had to run it was an absolute track meet out there they lost another series though Lost the series to Colorado it's tough yeah some bats got going you know that's always a good confidence boost soar had four homers and what a three- game span the Rockies should been in onair they should have been in on cair in the offseason he crushes in Colorado I know they're not gonna sign some yeah just doesn't make sense I don't know I I the Rockies don't make sense neither did the Chris Bryant signing but they signed him yeah I don't have anything for anyone on Colorado I really as we always say like the ballpark there's a good fans there there's great fans there you know I always say like certain cities deserve better that's one of them yeah it's just it's just a weird plan how worried we how worried are we about the Braves I keep asking you guys and no one will give me an answer but how worried are we about the Braves at this point I think they'll make the playoffs I do that's the third spot over San Francisco I think they'll make the playoffs Mets are around I think Charlie will make some I think Morton will make some good starts when he needs them I think freed will he'll when he needs them he needs him now I know I know [Applause] [Music] all right we're back on Ft Levi Weaver joining us right now rights for the athletic puts together the brilliant The Athletic’s Levi Weaver Joins the Show (AL West and NL West Convo) daily windup um the athletic free MLB newsletter that I read every morning Ken rosenal is big part of that Levi good to see you how are you how are you holding up too with the The Daily Grind of a newsletter uh compared to the Daily Grind of being a beat writer it's so like I get weekends off this is the first time I've in my entire life I've ever ever have weekends off so it's it's fine it's late nights but like that's that's fine yeah actually he just described my life I was just gonna say are just described my life is Scott your spirit animal yeah he is I mean I I I lived that Tex our text thread with like our fellow L late owls and uh and talk baseball but that plus the weekends I just text Levi like weekends right man what are they know about these since I was a kid so yeah same yeah it took it took me some time I was I was doing the whole like Ricky Bobby thing from Talladega kns it would be Saturday and I'm like I don't know what to do with my hands like what what's happening right now I have a day that nothing's required of me uh you know what the big thing is I work really really hard don't like if my you know and and extra appearances you're on Ft you're hustling you're hustling but I will say and then we'll get to Ball but if if your entire adult life features working on weekends your friends forget about you on weekends so when they come back you'll text them and be like hey what are you guys up to and they're like like anybody that you know they're just like I why does it matter like who are you I'm like no I'm around now so I I can go to that that trip or that thing like oh cool good to see you it's been 12 Years anyway let's get to ball so let's start with the AL West battle just because we covered a lot of NL Wild Card I want to get back to that with you but let's start with Astros Mariners and how you've sized it up I know you've written about those two going back and forth quite a bit but Mariners swept up the Mets this weekend showed off their pitching bats started to come around so what have you been writing about and observing in the AL West yeah it's not a great division but it has at least made for an interesting race you know like the the Astros started off really really bad uh had just such starting pitch starting pitching uh depth issues everybody was injured um and then you know the Mariners just had not been able to hit at all their pitching was really really good um and the the bats were flailing and so that's not a a great success story and meanwhile the defending uh World Series champions the Rangers for once in their entire organization's history had good pitching and the hitting was just uh inep and was not doing the job so um I do think that probably the Astros I got to give them the edge until they prove otherwise just because they got the track record of doing it and also because the Mariners um are one of those teams that just sort of have a certain punch chant for ruining the lives of their fans in the most heartbreaking way so my guess is that the Mariners will have the lead until the last day of the season and then the Astros will find it to to break their hearts uh but yeah it's not not a good division but at least it's interesting based on how the teams look now if you said okay I have to pick the AL West to win the World Series which team has the best chance like if you're like okay I I have to pick this team to go and succeed in the playoffs to me the easy answer is the Astros because that's all they've ever done they just gone to the playoffs they've gone to the World Series but I have a different opinion op of who I think would be the best team in the playoffs but I want to see who you think I I think I'm right there with you because the Mariners rotation is so good they've got such depth and if you really only need kind of three and a half starters in the playoffs you shift a couple of those guys to the bullpen and that is a nasty nasty pitching staff and all of a sudden you're winning three to2 two to one I kind of feel like the Mariners are a more dangerous team in the postseason and and also don't underrate Randy Rosara he he Adis Garcia appear to be cut you know best friends from their from their uh St Louis Cardinals days but appear to be kind of cut from the same cloth and that when it's a big big moment they rise to the occasion so postseason Randy plus uh plus that rotation uh I think they're more dangerous in the playoffs but I do think that the Astros are going to Edge them out in the regular season also Justin Turner's had some postseason success in his life too and was getting up there and age was nice to see Randy Justin your two big additions to the lineup both you know contribute big in that game this weekend okay so let's go one notch lower the defending champs I think they're pretty much done should they have sold at the trade deadline a little bit harder or is it too tough of a sell I mean you've covered this team so was it worth it or from even a PR perspective it's like you can't trade evaldi after what he did in the playoffs last year just throwing a name out there but Max before got hurt I the Rangers since I would say 2015 was a good trade deadline for them right like they they brought in Cole haml and Jake deckman they had Sam Dyson on that one um I think they have had one good trade deadline since then and that was last year when they just they got the pieces they need and even that one still is going to sting because Cole Reagan is out and that's what the the price was for RIS Chapman but it seems like every year and I started covering them in 2016 every year when they had pieces to sell uh it was a a buyer market like they they got nothing for UD darish well we thought Willie Calhoun was going to be like maybe but he was not like a slam dunk right and that's UD darish in 20 what was it 2018 when they or 17 I think when they traded him uh they got nothing for Cole hamills I'm I'm confident saying that Eddie Butler was not the answer um and then the years when they have needed to to trade for players it seems like the price is high this year it looked like it was lined up for them to finally take advantage of a trade deadline right like they're just out of it they're probably not going to make it they're definitely out of the Wild Card uh and then all of a sudden the Mariners and Astros are just Within Reach they sweep the white socks which shouldn't have meant anything but it kind of did they're within like two and a half games of the division and so instead of really selling uh they went out and got Andrew Chaffin they did trade Michael lenen because they had too many starters and there's no such thing as too many starters they could really use a Michael lenzen now with sherzer back on the iil with nathany valdi now having right side tightness I think we'll find out more about that this afternoon um it's just yes they should logically they should have they should have traded evoled they should have traded anybody that they could if if you say Kikuchi is getting you know the package that the that the Blue Jays got for him from the Astros take advantage of it like David Robertson has been great for them this year Kirby Yates has been phenomenal for the him for the Rangers this year neither those guys should still be on the team and they're they look cooked now completely and they'll have nothing to show for those guys so you're right from a PR standpoint and Chris Young is a former player just had a taste of winning a World Series he grew up a Rangers Fan it's like personal to him he really really is like competitive and wants to win so I get it I get it if you're that close you want to try and take a swing at it um you know and it's easy to say and retrospect like yeah you should have should have traded off guys you should have sold set yourself up for the next five years um but yeah you know hindsight being 2020 as it is absolutely should have just cleaned house I have one comment you said about the Cole Reagan's thing if you trade Mike Trout John Carlos Stanton Aaron judge and you win a World Series it is the right trade I don't care like to to me I just had a comment about that because I get it I get ity awesome for the Royals that they got Cole Reagan sucks everybody would want an All-Star left-handed pitcher who strikes out the world you won a World Series sorry Levi I would trade your hat for a World Series win oh one 100% you're exactly right and and I hope it didn't sound like I just meant it stings a little I know what you now be like well was a big cost for oras Chapman but you're 100% right the I think the phrase is Flags fly forever um they it was the first World Series in franchise history fans have been waiting for this since 1972 right like yes it was wor if they had had to trade you know the the Nolan Ryan Hall of Fame plaque to get that World Series you you do it that's that's the price of uh of playing and it worked out all right Levi I'm gonna switch gears a little bit here enough Rangers talk because like you said they're kind of done what about the NL West can the NL West get four teams in can the Dodgers win the division the Diamondbacks the Padres and maybe the Giants steel that third wild card because that wild card race is wide open and with what the Giants have coming and their pitching rotation the way they're playing could they possibly swoop in and have four NL West teams in it's I mean it is doable right the Diamondbacks and Padre's have looked really good for the last what week and a half two weeks longer than that for the for really for both of those teams they've been playing really well um it doesn't seem like it was that long ago that the entire uh NL Wild Card looked like a a crapshoot and there were like nine teams that were on their way in we're starting to see now like the the Pirates are five games out so they're they're you know one and nine in their last 10 I think they've cooked themselves the the Reds probably not the Cubs have been kind of surprising just looking through these standings here the Cardinals haven't been great lately the Giants are the only team that is not the Diamondbacks or the Padres that have a winning record in their last 10 games right the the Braves are three and seven the Mets are four- six the Cardinals are four- six the Cubs um okay the Cubs are behind them they're eting two the Cubs have been doing all right so it's possible if I had to pick one I would say probably the Braves or the Mets one of those two gets in um I'm I'm basing the Braves on the more stable like body of work that they've done it more recently the Mets could have the nod of just being so so streaky this year there have been times that they've looked awful they did not look good in Seattle this week but there have also been stretches where they look unbeatable so I think one of those two teams probably sneaks into that third uh spot but yeah I mean if you if it's three months from now and I just sort of wake up and here we are uh and you tell me that you know the Giants got in and they made a run in the playoffs yeah that okay I'm not I'm not super surprised by that so I don't we haven't I'm I'm exposing my own ignorance here we've never had that happen before right like this is I mean no because the playoffs format's so new we've never had four teams from One Division get in um yeah that'd be wild and I feel like I'm actively rooting for that to happen now just because it's novel and weird and also because because it would also because it would make the Rockies just feel a little worse about their complete lack of logic whatever it is that they're doing trying and trying they complete lack of trying yeah like just just try guys and by try it don't mean Chris Bryant I mean you know like like trade your closer when he's 38 years old and gonna and he's gonna be a free agent instead of giving him a two-year extension right like Daniel Bart is not no no no disrespect to Daniel Bart but like that's that's a you trade right come on come on usually most usually yeah Ryan McMahon is having a career year and a lot of people needed a lot of teams were looking for a third baseman like that I mean you can't just say I like him he's a nice guy and right I mean look Diaz because or or Stallings I mean nobody wants a backup catcher nobody they're leaving after this year or they're free understand like we're we're emotionally connected to Charlie Blackman he's like the face of the franchise I get it but if you can get a double a pitcher for Charlie Blackman in a year where you're 11 million games under 500 Trey Charlie blackmann you can sign him next year he can come back and it'll be a whole new like reunion tour right like it'll be so much fun let him go have fun for a couple months instead of being like you know having to play these games that don't matter let yeah cruise control for a long time I mean that's what it is um all right let's let's finish with this yeah go ahead oh just my theory on the Rockies is that uh actually this would make them make me respect them more if this is true that they don't actually care about winning at all that they are there for The Vibes like look we get to hang out in Colorado it's a nice field our fans aren't really giving us too much crap for not being good so if they don't care why should we care let's just go out and have a good time and play like sand lot baseball 162 times a year and like take all the pressure off we don't have to we don't have to care about that we don't have to stress about it we're having a good time we're getting paid so the ownership is like they're like Frat Boys they're like we like we like being at college but we'll just keep throwing the parties and everybody else can have a fun time around us so the ownership are the Frat Boys of Major League Baseball that's that's the only way that any of this makes sense to me some teams are run like corporations which is sometimes a problem some teams are run like a mom and pop family business which can also be a problem the ground to me is the win but this is the mom and pop so it is what it is it's not trashing I mean yeah love the fans just it's it's not being players are playing hard with care yeah let let's finish with this so first off more of this you can follow Levi at 32 ephus eph is e us and let's finish with this so you do the newsletter every day anything either recent or if you want to go further back that really stands out that either you wrote about or I know you guys plug a lot of the Articles towards the bottom so assuming you read basically everything that the athletic absorbs baseballwise so just anything that's like really cool that would make someone that doesn't have a subscription hop on oh man um so this is this is from June so it's not it didn't come out recently but I man our missing bats series that that we did it was uh like a lot of our writers jumped in to help on that and basically told the the history of this sea change we've seen in in where it went from you know once in a while you would get a Rob dble or Nolan Ryan throwing 100 to all of a sudden everybody's sitting 96 touching 99 and um kind of the technology that went behind it but also the philosophy that went into it and how early on the guys that were saying like here's what we need to do to to increase strikeouts right like they were sort of the Tom houses and and people like that were shunned um and and you had teams hiring like astrophysicists and like AI programmers and things and how it has actually impacted the game we're seeing offense struggle this year because bats are trying to catch up to ju the just sheer uh wild um progress that has been that has been made in pitching even in in the last 10 years and it really I think laid it out it's a three or four part series laid it out in a a way that made it easy to understand here's what happened here's why it happened here's why it worked and what is baseball going to do do know uh they can't they can't change every rule at some point the bats are gonna have to the bats are gonna have to catch up I like get CRA said he's reading it I'm definitely I definitely got I can't believe I missed that anyway need to know what the hat is what's the Hat we tied on time so quick one this yeah yeah not to just stay on theme uh with the with the Twitter username but um there is a company called epas league and they do a lot of cool baseball uh paraphernalia and my scorebooks that I that I would use when I was at the Ballpark uh are are the ephas league half liners they're very compact they're great there's 81 of them so two books as a whole season um yeah free free plug for eepas League they're really good they make great stuff boom I like it there you go I like it I like the font well Levi always a pleasure thanks for swinging by yep there it is uh appreciate you and uh we'll catch you down the road okay anytime take care guys thank you be right back [Music] and we are back right now Mets Mariners anything we learned from the weekend with that one I know we covered it with Levi a little bit but Logan Gilbert looked pretty damn good Brian woo looked pretty damn good obviously that stuff's expected when you see a little bit of a burst from the bats it's a really good sign some home scoring is needed on many levels and of course also I actually I haven't looked at the replies but I I got I haven't done this in a while but I got into it with a few fans on Twitter over the weekend I think it was Friday night late because fans were like how dare you I mean most Mariners friends are awesome as you guys know I watch a lot of m games but a few fans were like how dare you ask stanic about the Mariners offense trying to get him into trouble I'm like you're stupid oh I did see I was like I usually see when going back you're stupid and they're like you you hate the Mariners I'm like no I talk them up all the time you don't watch the show you're loser get out of my face I was actually really nice I was like no I was like I think you're just misconstruing this but anyway AJ sometimes I can't resist when it was like so obvious they're giving me a softball I'm like uh no you just don't watch the show sorry we asked many times I want to say things and I don't there are many things times when I want to say things to people and I don't so I get it yeah but anyway I really good for them though yeah I know you get it way more yeah than than a little old me but anyway I was impressed though like you need to see something and when it's when it's Randy and Justin for one of those games carrying them the two new dudes I think that shows a lot right like the the team the pitching staff especially was like yo you better do something at the deadline and and they did and then you want to see those guys perform they did also there go ahead J oh I was going to say every time we get high on the Mets they do go out and do this score one run in three games and you're like wait what happened to the Mets we just pumped them up to to be this great playoff worry Juggernaut and then boom one run in three games it's like what what what happened West Coast trip sometimes that West Coast trip just gets gets you into a bad rut it's like when I'm nailing my bets and then I hit the All-Star break and I just forget how to research forget to pick a win they lost the angel series they did win the rocky series but it was a little dicey they were close on the Trevor Story working towards return this season second game and that would have been a loss on this series and then they got swept just now so anyway that is the wonderful NL Wild Card all right so we'll s Julio's coming back too Julio just came back on Sunday it's big for the Mariners B yep ride to wave yeah and less pressure on him presumably so we'll see you know kind of stays in in the zone a little better play discipline wise we'll see anyway injury suck next and we'll do our [Music] locks we need the positive sound at least to start here Trevor story this from Gabrielle star covers the team friend of the show um she said story will take BP outside on Monday today huge step on top of that Alex K manager just told us he's very confident story's going to play again this season quote I'm truly believing that he's going to be part of this when he had the shoulder surgery you were like he's done done and Injuries Suck it might even be a tough off season you you just think I think they the guess was four six months something like that and this is like two or three what is this super I stopped thinking about him yeah I didn't even know it was going to be will will he be able to throw hard enough to from short like in a sense of like getting anything on it to where he's able to rip that front arm through about second or D AG or something I don't I don't know yeah I have no idea but that's crazy this is great if he comes back it's awesome it's awesome for for him and if he helps the Red Sox it's great it's great news you always want to see guys get healthy and come back so I'm all for this but his front it's his front shoulder right it was his left shoulder I think so I can double check I think it was his left shoulder so to me this team this team puts I mean it's part of my part of my bet today this team put some runs up yeah they put some runs up they did they did but they still put runs up and and they're going to need to hit so you can't have somebody come back that doesn't have the juice that he needs on that front shoulder so I think I think it was his left because he Dove he Dove and his arm went out when he like it looked like he like separated it or something as he Dove out but I could be wrong no I think you're right and then Tristan Kus could be back this week for them which or is back this week for them which is Big right I guess yeah they gotta they make a move there Al although Dom Smith isn't playing good has he been mhm he has been okay I look by the way it was left shoulder for him yeah and lastly we don't really have time but just quick Joe Ryan has the shoulder issue the strain could be you know that similar one the right Terry major that Max shz are dealt with could be the season it's not good I was listening to who was it that LaVine say paddock's going to come back actually probably could be long reliever or something although they might need him to start I just don't know if they can build him up but Joe Ryan's had a really solid year 360 ra 115 ra plus really good strike out to walk numbers but it looks like he could be done after 23 starts that sucks vo was ticking up yeah starting anytime you can pick it up when you can yeah you never can have too much twins didn't do anything at the deadline remember oh they got Trevor Richards who was terrible then actually picked up a key save in game what two of the double header but still I mean you got to do more than that it's it's the players were pissed it was documented you can look it up got to do more than that they're making some call-ups now with some guys try and get things going a little bit all right lion you take Bet MGM Locks of the Day [Music] over all right quickie locks so I picked up a dub effin little was what I thought it was going to be or latel sorry and AJ you got half your lock so you got got some you got some got got rained out yeah 150 or one half whatever it is yeah we we had we add it up in the money bags Cam and Pap lost Pap has a pick though so there we are with money bags and let's run the pick for parlay Pap who's still up four figures this year my people of f I'm about to go golf it up but I got to give you this parlay first cuz it's a guarantee and I got to give you that money we got to get that cheese here we go two game parlay number one pirates Padres under got you hey better bring you jck jockstrap today cuz it's two big boys pitching against each other so we're going to go under and number two I'm taking the Yankees against the white socks in the money line let's get that cheese oh shocker he's fading the white socks I mean it's been success it's been successful what is it if you bet if you if when they lost their 21 games in a row if you bet $100 you just kept rolling it you would have won like I don't know 700 Grand yeah if you kept rolling and then you have to know when to stop so but it it was a cute exercise yeah all right AJ you want to go yeah uh I'm looking at Giants Braves tonight I'm just going Snell over sail over that's it boom nice sna I think is seven and a half I think saes eight and a half both teams strike out a ton both pitchers have been on a roll I think this should be a pretty easy one yeah big game both are needed to pitch well both are really battling each other now and what's going to be a good series for a wild card SP spot I'll take Boston we're both picking that game so you've got the over I've got the money line on a win for beo over Tyler Miley and a Red Sox team that's been more competitive right now too why do you think it's going to be high scoring because seven of the last seven Red Sox have gone over the over and they've they've been scoring and they've been kind of a little bit of a Civ in the starting rotation and in the bullpen so I like I like the Over Texas has scored a lot of runs they they went into they went into Yankee Stadium scored didn't come out on top necessarily besides the you know the one game there but lot of scoring here all right I like it and if you are a bmgm account holder then you can play the swing for the fenses game if you're not obviously you can sign up use the bonus code foul to get involved on the app and then play this game play as the batter pick an area of the strike zone see what the result is and it could be a little favorable addition to your account in the form of parlay boo tokens odds boost tokens Etc all rewards expire in 24 hours gambling problem or concern call 1-800 Gambler be right [Music] back hey cam he won the sa young last year I don't know if you know that or not and he went to the offseason and didn't sign till like the end of spring training so I got to ask him like what was that like what was it like was was it harder than you thought because I know you were you're a Boris guy and you're in Camp Boris and you know you're throwing to hitters and you're doing this and doing that but it's not a big league man with big leag guys like was it harder than you thought to not go to spring training uh well I knew it was going to be hard uh when spring training started up I was kind of shocked I was like I was a team not not come after me to to get me on the team for something that I thought was fair for for my worth um and and then going through it it's like the towards the end of spring I'm like man this is crazy it just blew my mind I was like I'm still out here a free agent you got big league teams that I know could use a pitcher like myself and I'm still out here and the offers I mean that was crazy I just no offers like nothing good nothing even worth talking about and then when the Giants came after me I was pretty pumped and then then I started getting into it we started springing I was like man I thought I was in like good shape ready to go and then I throw my first Bullpen out there I'm like yep it feel like the first day of spring like I felt bad was like I I threw four Innings uh against hitters um probably like four or five days [Music] w w [Music] [Music] a [Music] Slap Hands and Kratz hats [Applause] [Music] let's SLP we got a few minutes so we got a lot to cover let's start with the news we learned from the weekend about players weekend coming uh when soon right what's the dates uh I guess I should have known that when I queued this up but anyway last weekend in August all right we're gon to look it up let's look at the hats Katz hats our specialist here so you can't customize the Jersey but you have cool numbers on the hats that's cool I mean it's a consolation prize but what do you think it's cool like they they did it I think it's cool like you didn't August 16 to 18 by the way go ahead oh it is 16 to 18 okay next weekend I'll be down in Phil I'll be down at the Phillies game that day they like did did the players choose like the font for their numbers no like it's all it's all done by the team everybody's font's going to be the same so I think it's cool it's a ployed to sell more to sell more hats and as a hat efficient Auto I love it MH I love it wear your favorite player on a hat you don't have to spend $500 on a jersey M yeah it's cheaper AJ yeah yeah I not a hat of fishing a he's a hair I have lots of hats but here's I think like it's lot hair I mean it doesn't really do anything yeah cool you put a number on the side of a hat so someone has to buy one but the if the players don't get to choose anything or do anything other than their cleats what's the big deal like let's let's open this up man like let's there's so many other ways you could have done like I love the nicknames on the back and all the guys coming up with different things to do and some guys were boring and just kept it the same but hey that's their personality man like just putting the numbers on a side of a hat it's like hey we can sell seven more hats let's go team and it's social media World they would love the creativeness on the back of the Jersey it plays now more than ever and you get rid of it it's only because of the uniform issues let's be real that's why we do this show we just tell it like it is we know that it didn't get squashed because it was a bad idea it was a good idea crat quick baseballism talk about a talk about a uh player specific hat there's an anybody there isn't anybody right now that likes baseball doesn't know who this is Ken griffy Jr he he's eclipsed he's he's gone over all generations yeah even for kids that have never watched an ounce of him you know live or any of that you still talk to plenty of guys who are swag the OG Swag yeah I want to do Jason kipness little video we'll get Kip on I think on Friday but he made his Savannah bananas appearance we knew for a while but we don't want to announce it it was a surprise pack out packed out Jacob's field I know it's not Jacobs Field Progressive it's Jacobs Field it's my insurance and my guy just gets a rip like he gets a rip back up the middle I got there's there's a bunch I got to get on about but I heard Cy clubber was there too yeah kubot probably was talking a lot that's cool and then he got pinch ran for this is what I need to ask Kip about you got 10 seconds on this show what that's it you got pinch ran for can't get pitch run I mean he wanted to get the Ovation on the way out anyway Luke Weaver's joining the show on Tuesday Ken rosenthal's back tomorrow too [Applause] [Music] AJ interfering with Braves mascot race so here's the deal you always get rewarded if you stay for the extra few minutes on Ft AJ told the story about his altercation that was staged with the hammer in Atlanta and apparently we have some video of it that we are going to show during these next couple minutes before you stay here and we flip you over to Dodgers territory here we go here we go AJ give us the playby play look at the poor drill he's losing already here we go watch watch two steps out and just where are you watch you'll see they run a long ways there we go oh limping too oh my goodness oh you hit the other guy oh oh yeah and then the buckets like nope and then the drill for the first time like ever wins look at him look at him easy to root for oh so you got two hits you said you got one hit you got two hits forgot about the I forgot about the other one yeah the brush had no idea was coming the paint brush no idea we didn't talk about this like I'm not the the bucket the bucket was like I'm out of here no shot not having it was it fill the bucket fill the bucket yes hammer and Hank is the one and paintbrushes I don't know who the paintbrush is yeah but Ryan larway had to catch 18 Innings that day they were like you look at the board and it's like lavaro catching both pinski deck the hammer that's right like where am I today oh I got the hammer that was before blooper by the way they had Homer the mascot they didn't even have blooper then wow I like blooper too really blooper guy they're the they're like the they're the second and third yeah second third they're the modern you know they're the Philly fanatic newer versions right hey they needed uh Chief nakah remember him out when back in the day when he used to sit out in the left field with the Tepee and come out and they hit a home run and then I don't think they do that anymore no no they don't do that anymore but I did get to meet Chief nakah when I played there he came in and uh he could not remember my name so he signed a shirt for me it said Chief nakah and he wrote the wrong name on it it's amazing my favorite mascot actually I'd like to replace all of those pass clatch just for one guy to get on base or do something I don't know it's just that's it's so well done anyway oh wow we had a good guest list tomorrow this why you stay for the extra bonus few minutes Luke Weber from the Yanks Bailey obber from the twins who's been on a little heater again pumping up strike out this year too and Kenny ball game Ken rosenal End of Show is back I'll be back in Florida with AJ Dodgers territory is coming up next with Alana and by the way yeah the Brewers are on it the Brewers are on it for sausage race let's go all right we got BR out there make sure we document the whole experience but anyway and pin stri Territory go check it out congrats Derek and the Yanks crew we'll see you on Tuesday
