The Ratings | Carlton v Hawthorn | AFL Round 22, 2024

well hello pommy hello everyone welcome to the rating show here on the BL Brad YouTube channel after round 22 it's Monday the 12th of August 2024 we are here only just 24 hours after the most disappointing loss of the season and disappointing l in a while pommy hello mate hey how you doing yeah I mean [ __ ] that that good [ __ ] hell mate now look we're all right mate we've I mean we got a job to do haven't we you and me so Apu uh we'll do this with the Vibes of our forefathers and uh we'll uh do it we'll just uh rush off our collars and get to work hey I need a collar color color is what I need just so you know just just you know off camera I've been cheering Terry up with my own sick sense of humor I think I've broke him so sorry chat this is me yeah look thanks very much to Nick from Horizon Finance group for sponsoring the show love your support um this is going to be a very interesting watch if you're new to the rating show welcome it's good to have you here we're going to unpack every single angle of this game uh in a really different way we'll go through every player look at their role look at the stats that make up their role and compare them to other players in their exact same position and that'll give us a rating out of 10 um a lot of work goes into this so py thanks very much for what you do but I'd like to say I'm looking forward to it but I feel like I'm about to re open a wound that is still quite fresh so this is going to be an interesting watch um okay right well I mean yeah it's tough uh I'm gonna be totally honest with you uh genuinely I find a little bit of happiness and a little bit of joy in numbers this it's it's not often you look at maths and maths kicks you in the dick but um warning it kicks you in the dick okay so so I might need to find a new coping mechanism because it certainly Ain numbers y that's true all right well Shall We Begin as the team was named we'll start off with Brody Kemp what happened oh well I mean this one's an interesting one uh with broady because he was incredibly loose and he was a real victim of I think what all the players were um where as the first quarter went on he started to get back and back and back and back and back further back giving him more space which then caused chaos with c's zonal system because if you're not guarding the correct amount of space you interrupt it and towards the second half on the rewatch uh and I had to rewatch these ratings cuz my review I didn't make any notes of where players were stationed at certain points um it it was quite alarming the impact on him the four clangers were really dangerous clangers as well under zero pressure as well um tough one for bro um I don't want to use the L word but this was another har lashon in just simple forward craft beating simple defensive craft yeah he's just played his 41st game so I don't know how many games do you give a player before it's like hey this needs to be you I don't think he's there yet to be fair to him he's not um there's another guy we're gonna talk uh about who did Excel um Palazo makes a great great great Co comment there he did run it out of Defense um partly though he actually got himself in that situation though particular in the second quarter where he did have about 150 meters gained in just the third quarter alone it was kind of because he got loose way too loose and was kind of caught in transition which a lot of the players were but yeah tough game for broads as a lot of them um well good come under that cat arre so a far 4.5 for Brody Kemp I've just seen here Maz has gifted five blue abroad memberships so thanks if it is worth noting as well for those watching at home that for a bman in a game like this you should score pretty well so if you watch last week you scored pretty well because they faced quite a lot they had 64 entries to deal with so that really does help you sex up your stats a little bit so 4.5 with 64 entries faced it's probably if you win that's like a 1.5 yeah not enough but that's Brody 4.5 then we go to Jacob weering uh interesting heat map here don't really know how I judged his game personally to be honest yeah I mean this was an interesting one here because we usually see one what Insight one oneon-one lost uh If we're honest that's usually the max he actually had two this week um meaning he only won one out of three which you'd have to go back to his second year for something like that something yeah like and the one percenters and stuff always a good sign um from a key Defender it means that you're doing the things that maybe you don't get thankful for but this game here it was quite interesting Sam Mitchell had a dedicated plan to Target C's backline and for the first time we saw a coach Target this guy and we didn't see him Target it with height we s saw it targeted with pace and marabar Cha was charged with trying to get to the front of the contest and then people like Nick Watson ginevan uh and particularly Dylan ma were charged with coming round the side of him and trying beating him on the deck and it was kind of a worry in my opinion that it was so easy to break because once the ball hit the deck weing was rendered kind of useless and the rest fell apart once he got beat particularly in the first quarter you could see the Panic sign setting in that backline so this is a game to forget about are we going to be angry with Jacob weer in no not really because I mean he's done it solo for probably about 99 games so uh he's entitled to it but this was very interesting uh to see uh a new tactic Target Ted on Jacob wein because makes sense oneon-one he's unbeatable change change the Avenue play to your strengths which it did I think everyone had a particular a old moment Jacobs was happened right in front of me Nick Watson took like a contested mark on him and I just thought all right well something's not right which was clearly the case before that happened but whatever that's a 5 point fight for Jacob weering he has had a really good season so it's just not not a good day luy Cowan maybe one of the few that we'll smile about today this is a this this is a career best game just about easily his career best game uh and probably the first time I've really seen like on the second rewatch and the third rewatch The Third rewatch particularly I got really really excited when I was doing it just for this show um just how mature he looked and it reminded me of watching the tazzy games where they were under the Kos and one man looked like he wanted to put them on the back and it was reminiscent of young Crips at times when there was a couple of intercept marks that he took he was the leader on our team as well W one of them intercept marks he noticed that they were coming in at the side and trying to spoil it and he just got in the way held his body line took that grab and he grew in grew in confidence as well in that fourth quarter where most of them have checked out they're back home with their wives partners and dogs he wasn't he he was willing to die on that field and 19 defensive half pressure acts when you've got a halfback who's playing in the back pocket leading your defensive half pressure acts that's a problem but the 15ks this guy was working hard and he's the only bman to feature in the Run distance this week which is a concern because he was so willing to get up high stick to the plan of having a high backline but then run back Chase back and invariably you actually saw him being one of the few to overlap horor players in the fourth quarter because he was so willing to run back and phenomenal game by um luy and you know what these are the games that really do test your character as a human being particularly when you're 1920 and that shows that he's got a lot of character so uh fair play to you mate because if you had six blocks in the backline with you you may have stood a chance yeah you find out a lot about people and players and athletes and just anyone in general when things aren't going their way how do they go about it yeah he he was up for the fight um for four quarters he played his 21st game yesterday as well so I mean we're sort of talking about Brody camp and you know Wednesday that time where you you should sort of know what's going on and have a good hold of it I mean c probably hasn't even figured his himself out yet at the level I mean maybe May unless he just did yesterday but yeah you you can't really teach that sort of endeavor when things aren't going your way it's really easy to go on your show mate spawn and do you know what I mean for for a baby do you know what I mean second year player do you know what I mean like around players with senior experience expertise for you to mold shout at Players which was really important well there's a few times you see in the third he's aren strating where people are uh he's willing to get in the face of hon players as well um and you know one thing that I really like not a smile on his face all day not a smile on his face this guy was locked in from opening bounds he was ready for war and uh huge credit to him and great to see the mukal give me the Tasmanian mukal that I fell in love with in the draft yeah one of the few times that will probably smile in this show so thanks Loy um he gets an eight for his game we have a new member wenus did you just deliberately miss the X Out yeah um and Andy thanks very much for the $3 donation on your Andy on your Andy uh okay let's move along we're going to talk about Adam sard it was all about Adam sa this week we unlocked him seemingly uh I felt disappointed by this game yeah uh so see what we said about broady Cowan there's one thing going one way attacking but you've got to be able to defend and he was very guilty in the third and fourth quarter have really been one way one way not willing to track back you see Muk cow's heat map is almost where the green is on this guy uh really really hard at it really hard at it and was willing to defend for him and this is where people probably give a bit of disrespect to players like Cowan players like Ole Hollands who were willing to do this when players aren't zero tackles and they attacked that side you'll see their heat map towards the end of the show they attacked his side as much as possible and if you're going to play that system you've got to be able to team defense and two intercept possessions that's a Paul in facad we're usually seeing him Shar them little touches outside defensive half pressure acts the intent wasn't there and unfortunately you can't always dine out on your offense and you can see for a half bman that's under the caution by 60 inside 50s to have red in the defense is almost unforgivable because there's got to be a point where you realize that your onewood might be running but you are a Defender so uh tough one for him really tough one this is a tough one because I think the last few weeks you know we've looked at his role and we've looked at what are his strengths and we want the ball in his hands a bit more we want him kicking the ball a bit more I thought we got that but I think he took the instruction so literally that he forgot that he's still a Defender yeah and it's it's interesting it's interesting because you know the thing is with sad is he's proved he's can defend he's he's had them moments he's had them responsibilities them defensive responsibilities before uh and done quite well with it this was a key Cornerstone of vos's first two years in charge that he utilized this guy in Nick Newman in a kind of an attacking role to turn turn a dangerous forward into a Defender so we know he can do it yeah this was an interesting one and you know what I think it's a cop out to say it's a Bubblehead or I think he's far too clever for that sad I assume he is I also think it's wrong to say he can't defend he can defend uh potentially he's been looking out for his hamstring but he's been back for a while now haven't seen that same commitment mentally on some of these chases that I've come to know him for but I don't think it's fair to say he can't defend he's an all Australian Defender I think if you ask any sports coach particularly football especially the ones that I speed to particularly at junior level the one thing that they say is it's not a talent defending no it's something that they expect everyone to do so that comes from heart passion desire motivation um and sometimes you're not the races but there was a few times that sad and I mean this with all the love in the world he was jogging backwards yep he was jogging backwards and that's that's a concern because then you've got to ask yourself what motivated them because sad genuinely is usually a pillar pillar for the backline of how to operate so yeah bad game yeah unlucky and he gets a yeah 4.5 rating for the blues wow ever yeah wow yeah well he's obviously hurt himself as well we'll find out the severity of that tomorrow night I guess once the injury report comes out let's move along [ __ ] McGavin um that's a pretty solid Pentagon right there yeah and definitely on the rewatch you saw that this guy he sead he always has the more attacking role MH and he quite quickly resigned himself to a more defensive role uh quite quickly but one of the few that made himself available particularly on transition now this wasn't a great game whatsoever because you'll see by the end of his rating uh but this was good to solid across the board he was Defensive he was he made himself available uh and this is probably one of the few that did try and create an Avenue for the Blues in the back half of the ground and was definitely one that c bro Kemp here he he was really under the C when Kemp sat back and allowed the team to go three four five sometimes on one because he was trying to get into the back back half and make it a little bit easier so he had something to run out and shephered McGovern quite a few times so it it was it wasn't a great game but you know what he he did what he had to do and when you're one of the highest rate Defenders on the ground in that performance that's a bit of a concern yeah what did you make of the exchange a lot of us pointed it out last night in the fan cams in live chat if you're talking about it here what did you make of the exchange between he and Kemp early on amusing that's people have made a lot out of it no I just think it was I mean no no that that is my reaction amusing because to me if you are shocked by it or like you've never done anything at a good level tempers Run High you should be doing that like that conversation needs to happen a lot more yeah and believe it or not it might be 2024 and we've changed our philosophies on things but you know anger still has a place in society especially when you're trying to perform at the best best level and that wasn't the first time Kemp had done it up to that passage of play if you go back about four of the inside 50s up till that point cemp had shephered in the way of people and if he's not going to be told and not do under his own valtion these senior players need to speak out yeah I want to see more of it to be fair so Mitch gets a 6.5 so that's interesting cuz yeah I mean you did touch in it so you know in terms of the stats here and the heat map here and it looks it looks pretty solid and then you get to here and it is a 6.5 so he's obviously lost marks couple of clangers couple of unforced Errors uh a a very safe kick this week which goes against him but playing the secondary forward um Defender do you I mean he's got it he he I mean he did it this would be one of them games that if suddenly weering had a 10 sad out a 7.5 you'd be looking at this game and going he's he's worked hard he's worked hard he's done what he had to do I mean don't think even from my free rewatches people might disagree I don't think he had any bad moments Fair let's move along Nick Newman for T Les nine marks six intercept possessions 619 M gain that's that's one of the higher numbers that we've seen in that stat this year yeah so mcgoverin and this guy were one of the two players that if you especially if you if you dare watch it again just watch the first half to see what I mean really really really works hard ahead of the ball like tried to move hence the nine marks tried to get himself in space where a lot of the other players were genuinely thinking and almost acted like one of the notes I've got written on my notepad here from the first rewatch is anticipation of [ __ ] up a lot of the players went through this moment of all right he's going to turn this ball over so what's the point of me running 10 meters because I'm have to run 10 meters back so it was kind of like they were anticipating they're going to turn it over Newman to his credit backed himself many a Time particularly in the second half as well so all right I'm going to come off my man I'm going to make myself a make myself an option the nine marks was really high the four tackles they were desperation tackles and also we deployed him where sad was when sad wasn't doing his job to try and pinpoint that little Josh Weddle inside hand ball that was doing so much damage outside 50 and the meters gained really got them hard really got them hard so um solid solid if not spectacular always solid he gets a seven Nick Newman as we go to Ole Hollands the just one of the breakout games that we've seen it's two in a row now well usually he's covering one player MH all right usually he's covering the defense of one player in the second half I don't know if Oly went rogue and uh because I I I can't understand a coach saying can you do me a favor and can you just cover everyone tracking back but he did he did and 16.5 kilometers insane uh four tackles 29 pressure the leading player on the ground but also still manag to get count going forward and that's something that we usually praise akres for his ability to get it moving forward uh and that's a St of voss's usually game plan but worked incredibly hard and you look here one of the few players that was willing to take a chance and come off his man and work out there was a couple of moments that I saw people criticize him in D50 I watched it back one of them players was Kent's man and O's come off ginevan to help because Kemp's got caught off and that just shows an incredible amount of uh of nson leadership and there's a reason that you can see that there's been a lot of talk around the club that he is leading that he is a future leader of the football club future Captain because sometimes you've got to do that it's amazing when you've got tactics and you've been told what to do there's also a little bit of self- commmon sense and sometimes he's got to come off so for a young player he's uh he's working hard he's working really hard so uh good effort from Molly he really is 20 years old and he just played his 39th game uh and when it was at its absolute worst for the team he was one of the few shining lights I thought there were three of them and we've just looked at the second one so well done honestly 6.5 for olle as we move over to Patrick Crips this looks like a heat map that means we've definitely lost because it's taken away from what his best looks like yeah yeah I mean to lead the ground on 15 uh contested possessions probably isn't what we usually are accustomed to see when we see the second best uh unfortunately for Crips but I mean this was a very interesting game you'll see the numbers towards the end of the game um end of this show of how that formulated as a team uh it wasn't good let's be honest but I mean Crips this is what Crips does uh he had to do it and for a stoppage and clearance that got absolutely decimated score-wise uh he did what he did and and this is the area here that we've really seen in the last six to seven weeks we've seen Crips lead the score involvements two or three times we've seen huitt lead it twice these aren't the players we want to see leading the score involvements um but stay po he's had old high worked hard and uh did what he needed to do uh but yeah this was a game here where he's really looking at his Midfield car to provide the things that Crips doesn't have and unfortunately they didn't yeah I remember you were saying last week that the ground ball get was going to be a really important factor in this game uh he had nine of them which is pretty solid it's what he does it's what he does 7.5 there was a moment you know how I said everyone had a moment everyone had a moment that you just look back on and you remember is H not our day I think Dylan Moore Shrugged a tackle a Patrick Crips tackle I was like H okay just little things little things but s. one of the small small things that did work is Voss anticipated what Nash was going to do so [ __ ] sacrificed himself a lot of doing the oldfashioned you see Guy do this a lot for essendon drag one of their players out of the stoppage and lose them in the stoppage to free up space and it was quite humorous particularly in the second quarter where there was so much space and huitt ran into Walsh there was a moment where Kennedy ran into hwi like the space had been created and then C's big boys started tackling each other almost getting in the way and Crips must have watched that and gone the [ __ ] do I have to do like like I'm trying to remove their biggest tackle threat and this is what you're doing and he's got his deficiencies which he's always had but this is where you're looking at the guys with the positives that Crips doesn't have to step up and this week they didn't so solid game for Crips he loow scar as well which it's probably harsh that it's 100% on him in a scoring system this is his lowest score for the year and it's a 7.5 it's it's his lowest one for about eight nine weeks wow there you go all right then you go to the other wing and you see Blake akres and you look at that heat map and that looks like he played halfback well another confusing thing about C system in the last couple of weeks and I mean this is really playing into the point of where you're somewhere between 50% system 50% players it's like pick your poison yeah the both [ __ ] um contested possessions 11 got at a 40 40% contested possession rate for a guy that only six seven weeks ago this guy was our premium Defender is genuinely a concern of how he played and these turnovers really got to him and I love Blake Acres a lot but for me you don't want him in the backline just because of how he uses the ball particularly under pressure and the pressure Acts were really bad for him and this is where you wanted to maybe give it a go I thought Ole had sorted that right hand side quite well with his hardworking Endeavor and was making them hurry up and then down the left side we had nothing and teams have really like like someone sent me a message today saying pom can you stop doing previews because you're telling teams how to beat us and I'm like well if I know it someone on six figures knows yeah and we're like moths to a light bulb you make it a little bit contest and you beat us a few times Blake is one of the guys that has that inside midfielder in him and he can't help go towards the contest and then it becomes condensed and then people say we're slow our ball movements laconic because everyone's in the same [ __ ] passage of grass like people are making out and it's really annoying me I watch fan cams and I stupidly watch four hours of it and the amount of people who come on and Waffle they spread they spread no [ __ ] [ __ ] every team spreads when you hold your width yeah it's quite easy do you what I mean it's what we used to do the first six weeks of the Season that we're all getting we're touching ourselves for we've totally forgotten how to keep width the white width of the ground at the moment is a myth with the ball in hand and it's even more of a myth defending it as well and a lot of these I don't often say this these numbers are kind of fraudulent these kind these kind of numbers would be a dream if I was doing your pay review because you've got a lot of marks but a lot of these marks were went out and we're trying to work out what the [ __ ] we do with the ball and in that third quarter there was so much time where count went left back to you back to you back to me who [ __ ] kicks it forward and he really got out that interesting from Blake because he's a Winger and regardless if it's not going my message to Voss you're happy to hang Ole Holland out to dry and you see the nonsense fans say about him hang this guy out to dry he's a [ __ ] mid 20s late 20s he's big and tough he can take them comments so get him out on the wing keep him there another breakdown to highlight that's a six for Blake Acres then we get to Elijah thought he started okay and I thought he had I thought he had this patch in the game where he was about to assert himself and then it it just didn't happen people make comments like Vos doesn't check things and I I always think it's quite funny because old coaches change things in game the ones that will get paraded it's a little bit like running into a burning house fire if you die you're an idiot if you bring out the [ __ ] dog you're a hero and same with making changes in game the first half this guy was Sensational right and he was in everything he was in everything and then because Blake went to cover the back pocket and then Boyd went down this guy then became a defensive wing and all the skill sets that lid has got being able to see a pass being able to pick a pass through traffic suddenly became negated and his skill set it's like playing Cristiano Ronaldo or Leon Messi at CDM the skill set might buy you a bit of time but it's not going to have an impact on the result and 16ks is of just running up and down and putting pressure isn't Li's game seven marks at least them marks were in that Hot Zone out of trouble but then when he looked up he had nothing there because the 17 men were behind him and this is a shame because for me this is where you've got to be a little bit bold and go right Harry stays full forward lid stays half forward we're going to try and find a way to get it to you mate and you get it to Harry and this was the first Walnut that broke and it's a shame because I love Li and he tried hard and yeah it's just not his role not his role not the first this would be the last person you'd change his role into this role my opinion right you keep him half forward so we get to 6.5 as we get to Harry mcki oh my goodness what is going on here so here you are you said people say what does he change well there you go this one is mind like honestly like it's not off I get a migraine from stupidity you've got to remember that I've got an eight and a nine year old at home so right they do stupid [ __ ] man like kids do and usually my kids have got a wonderful ability to do something completely stupid but there is Merit in what they're doing this one is bizarre so in the first half two mats inside 50 he kind of looked up and about he kind of looked like there was something there he was working hard and then the blues literally about 11 minutes into the second we're like we can't get it out the back half of the ground we need a Target here and where last week we used Mai I mean we used pitet I know it didn't work they brought this guy down back knowing that kerno had a little bit of a Dicky ankle knowing that everything was going wrong and this was bizarre because this wasn't maai this was structure and what really killed me and I gave him a little bit of the serve in the review and I love him I didn't mean it horribly but the amount of times he took a mark and handballed it inside and stayed there yeah stayed there broh being serious like Harry we're kicking to Jordan Boyd bro like every girlfriend I've ever had is taller than Jordan Boyd [ __ ] he GNA do like so yeah interesting poor game though this poor game no it was a game where we needed him to really lift and step up he gets a six and just to add insult to injury hurts his quad with minutes to go and then it really goes with about 10 seconds uh left in the game right in the middle of the ground it sort of happened on the far wing on the bench side that's when it first uh I think when it first really happened and then he he got the kick with about 10 seconds to go kicked it behind I can't remember who it was who fell over just it was just a you know put me out of my misery type moment and then we just found out you know hours ago that he's going in for a scan and what's that Murphy's Law everything that can go wrong will go wrong like yeah some [ __ ] said that I I mean two tackles inside 50 and the only two from you key forward and then you move him out I mean just when I thought I couldn't want to punch my camera anymore because luy fog is usually moved into the Midfield then we move the next guy who's tackling inside 50 down there as well so we we've moved the guy who's marking inside 50 and winning his battles then we're moving the guy who's actually putting a bit of defensive pressure on and then we're wondering why the ball's coming out with a [ __ ] ease in which Nazi Germany invaded Paris like am I missing something I feel like I've just come down from Mars and you're explaining this garbage game to me I'm going this is what we do though pal this is Elite Sport and I'm like oh okay cool 's EPL start bro not that I'm angry though I'm okay I'm all right so that's a six for Harry we're going to go to Jack Martin who it's a scaled score it's a five I don't think we can really truly grade him yeah him and fog e we just lit like like honestly like this is just purely out of respect of the badge the fans the show that I I I put myself through a third time of watching and did these numbers and I was like I ain't even working at a flated score for this guy in [ __ ] like I can't no is it isn't it just wild that they Collide and both get injured oh they both get the five I mean fair play I mean they spent 12 minutes [ __ ] baning his head to sub him out of the game so I mean fair play there like just send him up to the dressing room and give him a cup of tea or something yeah well I don't know I guess conversations around Jack will come in a couple of weeks months when The Season's done October I think is when we have these chats but yeah just adding insult to injury uh literally anyway let's move along Charlie kerno talk about another person who adding insult to injury kicked out first you know was up and about for a moment until he wasn't and then we lost him Charlie Charlie Charlie my often makes me happy incredibly frustrating I use the analogy about my kids is another kid who completely makes it hard y completely makes it hard um one goal one score involvement one mark inside 50 what at least he made put the numbers easy very interesting this because even though he was injured you've got to play one of them in the Square particularly the way halfon play with a very they they play a partial Zone it's called so you've got full zones you've got partial zones and no one since like 2000 has played man-on-man defense because it's so stagnant for for you to Def fight against a Zone one person always has to be in the goal Square always has to be in the goal Square because it just stretches the zone some partially and this was really interesting because he was like the deepest forward at times and he was going up that Wing um up that flank and this was a real struggle for him real struggle for him you saw I thought it really summed up his game he's running inside 50 and he actually drops the ball I've watched that passenger play three times he actually drops the ball because the decision he's made and then he pulls out of it and that's what causes him to get hit he would have had time to get rid of it this was a really interesting game from Charlie because then the clubs say since gws he's got injured so then you ask more questions that was the game that TDK kicked three goals so if he did have the niggle then why couldn't you have seen that pitet and TDK that game weren't working so maybe you could have had two weeks of TDK playing Center half forward because you keep saying you want to develop his forward craft and he's on the back of three goals give him the confidence very interesting um poor game for him let's hope hope that his ankle is okay yeah the way it just collapsed and the way he just went down and the reaction was pretty terrifying but let's just hope it's not too serious we're going to find out probably in 24 hours from now at the time of filming this so fingers crossed man because he's played every single game since coming back from Two and a Half Seasons out he's been one of the more durable players on the list which I kind of find a hard to believe that I just said that after where we were on this channel and the way in which we were you know all sort of saying don't talk about Charlie it's a sore spot you know he's never going to come back and be anything close to his best and and so I think when you talk about a body of work uh he's been exceptional and so whatever fingers crossed he gets a 3.5 and we move along Jessie mlop Jessie mlop uh what do we do what's going on here I mean positive he's replicated just in Timber Lake's hairstyle albeit 15 years late so that's good that's good um outside of that uh interesting I mean this was a really interesting game because our second best defensive forward over the last two years has been Jesse mlop so with the opportunity of fogy being down you would have thought okay cool now's your time now's your time to really showcase that in a game that really needed forward pressure when you've got 60 odd inside 50s against you you've got to find a way to take the pressure off and invariably most teams see that as if count did the first part just get rid of the ball as deep and as long as you can hence the shocking inside 50 entries but that then comes down to pressure and what L 14 pressure acts around the ground the ground ball gets in the first quarter when everyone was there real positive but this was a poor game from Jesse and he's he's got a lot of potential but we're Year where are we now 2015 20 we're nearly 10 years into a rebuild potential's great to sell memberships but in cold hard reality it's a results based industry and got to got to be better this is a game short time big game big game and he let himself down this week yeah I mean look bit of context i' suppose because it is his third season um and I think after seeing what he was able to do last year kick the 24 goals um you know there was a lot of Promise about him and also knowing that he had a really strong preseason and it just hasn't gone his way this year at all so he's played the four games uh this year takes his total you know to 37 games so you know he's also 20 years old so he gets a four um but we definitely definitely hope to see a bit more uh then we move to pitet well that looks like a heat map that suits the player yeah a really interesting one because like these are one of them things that where you look at it in isolation you go okay like I know what everyone keeps like I've seen so much on social media saying oh he's the number one rated Bookman in the league and stuff and I'm like okay cool but like in the real world where I live there's competition and just because Dan hin has managed to monopolize a rating system and no one else listens to any other rating system doesn't mean that that rating system's right you know what I mean yeah you've only got to think 200 200 50 years in human history the thought of evolution one of the theories that was heavily regarded was you just put some grain in a shed and two days later there's cockroaches and rats so it's spontaneous Evolution um we know that's false now so this is really fascinating with him because it creates its own problems and one of the systematic problems is that we had to bring someone in to mark up and down the wing yes he's winning his Rooks but then what's he doing off the ground very low tackle rate this week no marks around the ground the score launches were pretty positive but this was a real area here that you need to have some kind of a second job and unfortunately we haven't seen it kick on and this was a disappointing game for me from pit because I I really thought he was number one Rook man probably only a year ago opportunity to remind people how good he could be um he's kind of Sean yeah in the next couple of weeks TDK will come straight back in should we get to that stage the think the I think the most interesting part about pido is it's almost like he needs TDK in there to create that doubt for for him to have to overcome that you know early in the season he had a period of time in this season I think when he came in for the Giants he was a man possessed for probably from around six or all the way through to round uh he played he played round six till 9 then he played round 10 against the swans um had the 20 touches there and then he played six round 16 against Richmond and it looked like he had evolved he looked like he was playing with this real I mean I think the word you used earlier in the season was hutba and it's and it's almost like you know because you have your your spot to fight for and there's uncertainty is it a two- Ruck system is it a one Ruck system and you got to earn your spot and now it's almost like he has to play because T TDK is not available and he just doesn't seem to have that same Drive genuinely worrying I mean we're going to see it on his rating but when you've got something in the elite system and you're not above 6.5 there is something genuinely concerning about how bad your game is so we've had Harry in that category werin been in that category genuinely the way the rating system is his Elite usually transcends everything else and for it not to be in the green you've got a big problem and I agree with you I said hbur like you watch you watch him this what's the way I could My Nana used to say that I worry about that kid he's dead behind the eyes don't know if you've got that expression in Australia he feels dead behind the eyes it's like he's there and present but he's not yeah the aura around him it's a really weird wanky word to use but the aura of him the Shakra yeah the Shakra uh Steven spatii another guy playing with injury he has pins in his finger makes marking very hard I'm not aware of that yeah maybe if you can shed some light I'm not aware that that's the case um that's good to know I mean as I mean as long long as they've got an excuse you I mean should have worked in Australia longer I've only worked here like 10 years like at 16 years old that would have been so cool just the Australian mentality of let's make an excuse for you being bad man you even need to have a you even need to be fired politely otherwise you can go to like Fair work like imagine that hey I mean some some of the things I've when I was 16 17 starting out in work not giving my potential [ __ ] yeah you can't even get fired from a job anymore in this country because you're [ __ ] I mean just a little bit like [ __ ] hell go then well yeah P at five God bless him bless him still love him but yeah Sammy Walsh uh I don't know where to start is he a defensive midfielder here um to be fair I thought I saw a bit from him early in the game I thought here we go he's avilable around the ground he's moving around the ground well marking the ball a bit more than what I'd seen and then it just another one that just suame succumbed was succumbed to it that's a good one isn't it succumb suame suame to it that's it so he says pressure acts there do bear with me uh like I I'm on the precipice of losing everything that's tackles so four tackles um it's just in the category of Defense uh I've clicked the wrong one um when the hexagon great Point Aiden my boy good man um yeah so it's small so when it's a small thing we've tried to make it a little bit more depth perception um you know like uh with anything if you've ever sent a picture of something private it's quite hard to get depth perception on size so I've tried to make it smaller so you can see that even though that that is slightly better than average it's not a 10 pentagram because obviously a five out of 10 would still appear to be like a 10 pentagram just the blue width would be different um real interesting this one with s with Sam Walsh because it's kind of like what is it and you nailed it there Terry is he defensive midfielder is he an attacking Midfield what like what are you and we said last week that the best thing he could do was watch a tape of Nick deos of how he avoids going into the contest to the latest possible and this is where Crips hasn't got a 10 Crips is looking to give this to someone who can find some space and Sam felt like he just literally hung back and then or he got overinvestment this is why the last two weeks you've seen cripper and Huck leading them score involvement chains from the Midfield they should be part of the chain but this guy should be finishing it off and I've had to watch 2022 highlights when he had the 30 odd Brown low votes all them touches were out in space it was the hard boys working and getting the ball to him out in space and you're starting to see it now yeah it I I don't think he is a pure inside midfielder and I think it needs to stop yeah well look I mean if you if you sort of zoom out and look at the context of his Year Matt I think we can all see what you're seeing too I mean the the power through the legs doesn't seem to to be there just doesn't seem to the same Aura is not the word I need a different word but it is it's power Aura zip about him uh he's played 116 games and I'm not as worried about Sam Walsh as what I am others because his default and his bare minimum is always of a high work rate so you know you back him in to figure it out um but you know we're just seeing the reality of what happens when you don't get everything perfect in your preseason and you have to miss a bit you're playing catchup and this is why they talk about you know how important getting a full preseason is so I hope it's just that I hope it's just that we're getting to the tail end of the year and he's banged up and the lack of full preparation is's is what it is hope it's not something a little bit more serious or Sinister than that but he's he's he has he's got too much quality to stay in this vein of form yeah next year haven't heard that every time I've done this show but yeah I mean look he's he's class I mean the truth be told for me you look at the old days the the old days when he had his best careers do you know what I mean it was what 38% inside 40% out wide on the wing and then rest in half forward and we used to Rave about his kicking inside 50 from 55 60 out because he' penetrate on the goal Square could be injury probably is injury do you know what I mean but he'll definitely bounce back but like at the end of the day it's not good to me now is it do you what I mean if you owe me $1,000 I've got to pay my tax return I've got to pay my car Reger and you tell me oh I'll have it in six weeks though pomy it's not really [ __ ] helping me fix my car is it that's true that's a point gets a gets a 5.5 W she think this is the first time I reckon in his career that any form of criticism has come his way that's how you know you've well and truly been cized welcome welcome welcome Sam oh God George huitt what about this very inside midfielder type heat map uh um in a game where really we talked about it in the preview that we knew what they were going to do they were going to flood Nash newc come just be pains in the ass make it hard for the blues and you've got George hwit there the one thing the blues got right was they didn't tag which is 100% right you don't want to tag this side but the way to go to it is meet the furnace and the furnace chew it newcome [ __ ] is going to get Nash and then the third and fourth Midfield take it and you've got an incredible third midfielder who we're going to talk about soon in Matty Kennedy this one was bizarre because the first opening bounce turned me on you had huitt defending the wing side Crips defending our go towards side and huitt and and Walsh defending the defense side and that just makes so much sense because then you are in a real POS positive era of where Crips falls back Q it falls back they make it hard they create just that Corridor of uncertainty one of them wins it hand balls to Walsh game over Walsh is through and they tried it one time that first bounce and out of luck Crips it kind of comes off his elbow and bounces beneath hwi who's going to pick it up comes out to newom new gets the hand ball away they kick it and it was almost like they kept the same formation but in instead of them trying to create a deception they just rolled behind the ball and let three on three and then Walsh was exposed Huck was in no man's land here and Crips was kind of like [ __ ] how is this 2018 again and this is an interesting one from hu because he Prides himself on being a six seven out of 10 footballer and when you're playing him in that Wing defense rle so just imagine you've got one behind one here and then one coming from that side you've got to have a little bit of speed you've got to have a little bit of huts about you and yeah he was just left out to dry because at times he was a Sitting Duck and we saw it against Sydney yep well that's a 4.5 for George never did I think we'd have a red for George hwit nether did I speaking of red Jordan Boyd uh got hurt tough one statas apart from four pressure Xs and three super coach points but just J yeah genuinely I was gonna do a heat map for this guy and stuff but let's be honest if you're only going to give me one [ __ ] stat like come on like I've got better things to do with my time and so have you I'm not going to insult your intelligence even making a graph for him uh playing full forward it was an interesting one because yes he got hurt and things like that but even prior to the knock it was it was loose and and that first that first quarter particularly I was surprised he survived last week same because I thought last week it was really poor and it felt like more of the same obviously we're never going to know and obviously he got hurt and commissioner rations to him but it was a poor game it was a poor game and you it was interesting because you know when people are saying he's hurt and things like that still was moving in the fourth quarter and the third quarter he was still running and chasing loose balls he was just playing full forward in the total wrong position like interesting interesting it's all right though they he can kick well and I mean that's all you need isn't it I mean at the end of the day you don't need results you don't need success just as long as you're good at the bare fundamentals of being an elite professional footballer it's all right it's all good Co so a 2.5 for Bo then we're going to move along to Matt Kennedy the final maybe the final smile of the night something about this guy isn't it isn't there you said something to me a few weeks ago about a man with faith who believes in something greater than himself you know when you get outside of your own ego I always talk about accepting who you are that's incredibly important but then if you can also respect and have that belief in something that is not you and this is a general observation this is there's no science in this chat this is just generally my observation just walking through life someone that believes in whatever religion they believe in genuinely they have less fear because they know that there's worse things out there and they have that belief and you see it under pressure this guy is just a [ __ ] freak an absolute freak and again he came in and he did the hard bits all the time and a lot of people if you're going to be really harsh and I've seen a few comments out there he had nine turnovers he was the only player to have a highrisk factor on kicks with the most contested bow as well in them kicks he was really under the cach and every time got the ball up there um 29 pressure acts worked really hard the me is G this is what I want to from an inside midfielder as well if he's not gone your way just get the ball away from the contest like people are praising HW form that's why you they get the ball away from the contest by hand there was no options because everyone was condensed play the simple option and they're marking the only one in kickings who came off his man and gave himself an option and was the beneficiary by the leading player on the ground and I can't tell you chat how bad that is if your key forward is leading the tackle inside 50 count big problem if your midfielder your inside midfielder is leading Your Mark count oh shees yeah so well done though like you do what you can do absolutely yeah no you can't knock his work r on the day so a 7.5 for Matt Kennedy and then we get to Matt oise um 22 pressure AXS which I guess is solid how did you watch his game uh yeah I mean this one is really interesting I mean let's try and find a positive first um they only recognized small forward to hit double digits in pressure a in the forward half of the ground so I'm I'm clinging right now I'm clinging uh I'm clinging and for those saying too harsh on Kennedy nine turnovers though is incredibly high it's it's the lowest rating you can get for ball use albe it I gave him an excuse but um unfortunately I'm not in the market to make excuses but then also reward you for having the excuses find a way if you want to be elite 22 pressure acts I mean this is heart and soul though and that's what I expect with Mato is this guy works incredibly hard um at what he does um he's had to earn his craft so I expect the pressure outs to be there tackling though inside 50 very very loose very very loose like we're talking one-handed tackles I had Zack fiser flashbacks to you know when he used to see that thing where he kind of put the hand out so he kind of looked like he tried but he didn't um the score involvements he quite a lot of the ball in the final third and none of these turned into into the Finish prodct and then he took his goal which you'd expect one of the deepest forward players as well and at times yeah he he didn't even attack the ball so this was a real off game for mattio everything I expect from mattio I got the brilliant things I expect from Mato I didn't get so it was a tough game from him but then again I don't think any small forward played well today yeah 5.5 for Matt oise only got a couple more we're going to go to Zack Williams H just a little bit more confusion back at the side didn't know if it was a forward then he was back to the usual Zack Williams I guess once injuries happen that might have been a necessity but uh I don't really know I don't really know what to make of his game if I'm totally honest with you guy that kind of really encapsulates C football club at the moment uh and the whole Administration uh of changing your mind as quickly as [ __ ] possible yep so he comes back he's suddenly a forward we've paid all this money for an inside midfielder that suddenly became a halfback flanker which may have been a shock to Steven Silva I mean may have been a shock to um Nick Austin and the recruitment board that he wasn't an inside midfielder but you only had to watch him at gws a guy that spent 78% of his time at the backline and just played a couple of finals games on the ball wouldn't have surprised anyone after that and then he's now a forward small forward this is exciting cool brilliant and then as soon as there was an issue welcome back halfback flanker Zach Williams do you know what I mean that quickly as well that quickly it was literally [ __ ] halfback flanker and that is for me the bigger problem there of stick to what you believe in don't try and do anything else and this was really interesting a lot of people talking about him giving up um spot on spot on you know I mean it and and was that because he was underdone maybe but at the end of the day he is a full-grown man with children so he can quite easily put his hands up and go look I'm GNA be honest I'm not fully fit I'm not fully fit in a game that you knew you were going to be running like honestly if any player has the audacity to say I didn't expect I had to run that high there is a reason that five C players led the ground in running and all of them were above the AFL Elite stat because you have to [ __ ] run against his side they are a very big one and yeah Zach Williams one goal assist when he was in the forward line seven score involvements that was impressive but then we moved in back to halfback yeah and there you are Zach Williams's game that the only forward that was maybe making something happen moved half back flank quality 5.5 and then we get to the sub which was Alex chinot uh came on I don't know man I have more questions than answers with a lot of rolls this is another one I'm not sure what was happening here um did he get hurt I thought he got hurt as well thought he did a hamstring but maybe it was a foot banged up I don't know just a lot of confusion right full caveat I love pom car I absolutely adore the vog so I watched this game back and I thought right he's got the opportunity to come on let's get in let let's get let's get going this was a really interesting game for him because everyone keeps saying the s word because they're obsessed with speed which I mean I I haven't heard speed mentioned so much till I went through like a year of my life going to underground rabes and you hear about speed quite a bit when you go to them um and he's the fastest player at the football club Alex jenar he runs the 100 meters the fastest out of them all and then we bring him onto the ground and we play him in some kind of like like this heat map here says what the [ __ ] like in in a statistical point of view this is like what is this are you a halfback are you a forward even he's stats show there was a lot of running and a lot of movement but no defined role and this is a really really interesting one for Mr Alex jenot because I felt like the original plan which was playing him on Sicily was probably the way to go was probably the way to go make it accountable we've seen him do it to Tom Stewart you lose a key forward it made sense and then you played boy now there's the argument of saying oh you've got to protect Jordan vo why do you yes there was a lot of injuries and he had his injury very late as well Terry so I mean there was quite enough of the game for us to make a conservative thing but I mean I expect more from this guy because I I really do and I feel like this was the case in point you've got an opportunity here and he wasn't used to his best of his abilities and it became in the end like watching my auntie she used to babysit me sometimes and it used to be a really good time because I was about 134 she take me to Zumba know single mom Zumba yeah I do like watching him do single mom Zumba well hopefully it becomes a bit more clear what is maybe it will now that there's these injuries uh but I thought for whatever I don't know why I thought he had done a hamstring I think because I saw hamstring on notification so many times I must have just put two and together but yeah apparently he his he foot Stepped On by pido whatever he's banged up gets a fall so I'm dreading the next slide which is going to be the team because you just know it's going to be the worst version of what we've seen all year but let's take a look at the team so cavat a lot of you have been dming me hard out saying pommy can we add a coaches right in so I've I've tried to put a lot of thought into this and for this show to work it has to be impartial so I need a met metric that I can judge him on impartially it's all well and good saying pom what do you rate Vos out and I say one out of 10 it's unfair when I give the players a chance to prove me wrong that I do it so I haven't found a metric I can rate him on in a fair methodology so uh that's interesting um bossy boy I've seen you in the comments now for every since this show started if they've played less than 25% their scores are what's called Frozen so it just stays at a five it stays at a basement reading so it's unable unable so that's why I've moved them into orange so you don't count them uh but let's look at the ratings Jesus Christ so if you remember rule number one when you have a red we have to have a blue and when our highest score is a high green eight we're in a problem big problem when we've got yellows inside the Midfield major problem when we've got our Dynamic small forwards not in blues major problem this game here I've never done the Dark Ages in this rating system and I don't really want to because this has depressed me enough really bad because this is saying that it's not just structure that's the issue as well so you've got to remember these ratings don't give a [ __ ] about structure these ratings give a [ __ ] about if you were a player in another club with good structure what would your output have been this is saying even the players a pish like that's bad he's saying the players are pish like Pi Amanda I'll humor you because you're nice what would I give Voss out of 10 one and that's just purely because he managed to find the ground on time so well done but that was pish but the players have to perform their roles whether they like it or not and I want subservience from the players you might be better than what the coach is telling you but you are currently being played so I expect an element of subservience and an element of X Factor and this was poor like even from the first bounce you really saw these boys weren't with it weren't rivet like even before the injuries and I've tried to be fair to them before the first injury I haven't counted Jack Martin because he's not structurally important to our team defense he's structurally important to our team offense they looked five meters behind them five meters behind them it was really really bad and then the players didn't do themselves Justice and I at times I I wrote the sww here sulk felt sulky petulant so yeah petul like felt like I don't know if anyone's got kids but you know when you tellw them off and for the next couple of hours they're a little bit assy with you like it felt like that felt like I was witnessing like just bollock David then I've told him can you help Grandad outside do the lawn and he's doing everything with an element of [ __ ] and it I find it quite endearing I like it when my kids stand up to me it shows a little bit of hot sper shows they're going to go places but I watched this and I was I was like you you're [ __ ] Elite athletes man like yeah you you have managed to be the top 1% of humanity to get here bit of pride a bit of self-satisfaction a little bit I'm going to get kneed deep it's all right when you've got cripper doing this and saying one more for the road boys but you've got to [ __ ] put your heart into your soul in there I want you to go out there and be willing to die regardless of what the coaches say you're willing to do that because not for me not for David Jones not for any of them [ __ ] not for any of the fans Not For The Clowns who were dressed up in fancy suits do it for yourself first and foremost your family that's what you do it for so you do run and you do track back because you want to go home and look nana in the eyes and make it proud and this was poor Terry really poor and I'm sick of it because I didn't think we'd ever see this again this is this is a this is awful it's just literally and if you are watching this locky cow and if you st across this you are out of this Loop mate and oie Holland you are out of this Loop and Crips I'm going to give you out of this Loop but the rest of you [ __ ] me this is biscuit ass Museum FC this is this is sitting on the bench on the grass because you didn't want to get your I sent Terry the video so I wasn't lying when I said he was sat on the grass I I I didn't see that he was sat on a little bit of protection for the metal but he is actually Terry isn't he he's actually sat not on the seat he's actually sat on the little protection from the Ben you know when like you've got like a metal chair and it's too cold you don't want to sit in there because your ass will get cold so you sit in the bit that's B in the sun because you know it's a bit warm and Jo me like you know what annoys me as well like I got a message from a hone fan he said you've been really hot on this team I really thank you p because no one believed in us even I didn't and you sorry you could see this coming from hwon because of the messaging from the start and we should have watched this game like honestly pre pregame I knew what they're about and there is a way to beat these guys and it is literally with that intent and that intensity you've got to ask the question because the one thing Hawks haven't got yet is is that ability to knuckle down and get into a [ __ ] fight and that's something that is very weird about how Mitchell's made this team that they've always played they've always played good football but they're probably not up for the physicality and I don't mean that disrespectfully but when it becomes slow and stodgy they want the ball in motion and this is our bread and but we've been dog [ __ ] for 10 years man like they've only been playing good football for six months of them 10 years so we should be second nature for them and I always say this right and this is something that I used to say when I used to coach golf because I'm weird when I coach I like a little bit of rubbish I like you doing something new sometimes when you're doing something no one else is doing that's a good thing right but if you're doing something no one's doing that hasn't existed in this game for 20 years that's probably a problem because you should never go backwards there's a reason things are in the past they stay there they're a wonderful Story look at they like [ __ ] me look at them numbers at the bottom man 52 from over scores that was our one hope Goodness Me So -12 stoppage scores - 52 turnover scores - 32 defensive half scores and - 34 forward half scores you know the first thing I went to is you I mean I didn't look at those numbers you don't even need to you look at just how the game started in quarter one it's like how it started and how it's going and just quarter by quarter we retreated oh the pomeg the pomeg is literally mathematical geometry for which [ __ ] idiot bought the [ __ ] gery oh mate it's just it's painful for me man you know I mean but it's and look at this this is this is haor through and through why they're so well coached you know you know what annoys me is you watch hon and everyone like everyone's getting excited like you know oh Kingsley Kingsley Kingsley and [ __ ] they talk about that [ __ ] Kingsley muop it the main man is Sam Mitchell because day W he took them kids he stripped the list killed everyone all the [ __ ] and said right come here boys we're playing this football and he reinvented the wheel where usually when you've got [ __ ] kids Clarkson's doing it now you make the game slow stodgy give yourself time make it tough s Mitchell was like n we're going to play football boys we're going to play football we're going to get the balling motion we want it going quickly and it's quite funny the way to beat them right the way to beat them is get the ball in slow the ball slow it down make them play that slow laconic way because they've never learned that so what does that do it means when the ball is in motion you're ready to play and you saw these turnover scores are fascinating because kton in the second quarter went to what they do traditionally when they want to play from turnover and they lose the stoppage battle and they flood that Midfield to backline right with their big boys what did haon do they were like okay and this is what I always say Carter need to do Under Pressure they took the contact on they said okay we're not going to kick around you we're going to chase round you and you saw that overloads in sectors is incredible four players for 2 m squared of grass they bring you they they they said okay you want us to come on to you we'll [ __ ] come on to you see how you like it 52 turnover scores the the other thing that was really uh impressive disappointing from our point of view but impressive from the Hawk's point of view man they were so predictable to one another and they they got themselves into this flow and their positioning and their timing on all their contest seem to be perfect and precise uh it's it's and it hasn't taken them that long really when you you know put it in the context of how long it takes to change a club from when they decided to go a different way and get a new coach wow they've completely bought in they're almost ready to start playing or they are they're playing on Instinct it's almost like they've learned I mean I'm sure they've got more layers to mastering the game plan but [ __ ] me man they they're on Instinct with each other yeah and you know you know what's fascinating is there's a drill that pep did and there's a drill that McCrae does and there's a a drill that Richmond used to do in 2017 which is literally you blow a whistle you close your eyes and you say where a player is they'll read out a player's name so they'll say something like nine Patrick RPS where is he and you will say five meters in from the center circle towards the left wing and they have to do laps I don't know if Sam Mitchell has brought that I know when we were at a function he was talking he's got some new wave things but I know when he was at box he was huge on this now few data points I want to raise here because it annoys me hon at an incredibly good kicking side they are currently ranked 15th in the league for kicking efficiency across their team all right the reason this technique works so well is when CT were ranked quite low in kicking efficiency because generally you're ranked higher when you're [ __ ] or unless you're an elite kicking seat team it's because of all the options they've got available to you you look at their uncontested possessions it's nearly Double C butons it's because they are running in numbers running in clusters there is always an opening the rule change should actually make Sam Walsh's game better with the holding the ball and vos's game plan should be better because it rewards risk now yes it's a risk taking contact on but there's also a risk for me coming out of position and tacking you tackling you early the onus Now isn't pressure acts he tackling to get holding the ball and that's what haon do really well they make you tackle them hand ball to Wed they make you tackle him hand ball newom hand ball wed game over Dylan Moore had a field day keeping his width so many uncontested possessions and then when you've got forward half scores defensive half scores negative 32 and negative 34 this means it's a total systematic breakdown genuinely you see one of these scores pretty good yeah well we rely on one don't we that sort of always breaks even spawn spawn and it makes it easy like so much is deceptive about how haon play because it's it's literally what Sam Mitchell has done has gone right what's the makeup of my team I've got three or four people that can thread a pass got eight or nine players that have got incredible work right and then he started adding these X Factor talents these hardworking players these Pacey line Breakers and he built a system from with philosophy where you look at kton right now it's crazy to believe it's a 2year threeyear rebuild for hawthor and it's a [ __ ] what 12E rebuild for C because the identity of horor is going watch Box Hill the first year he had them it's the same system the same system replicated Voss I don't know what he is like I genuinely haven't got a clue at the moment what Voss wants because it used to be stoppage used to be forward half pressure then it was back half pressure and transition and right now that that heat map says to me he ain't got a Scooby and Debbie makes a great Point bad skills so what is the way you get rid of bad skills you don't rely on them you rely on something that any idiot can do pressure pressure pressure that's why the best results from Voss are pressure pressure pressure kick the ball to an area of space make it look good by hitting people yeah and it was fantastic then there was all them Runners so Sam Walsh could have the 10 meter dinky kick to his left yeah now you are asking them play good football and they're not capable we're gonna touch on some of these hawthor players that really carbed us up I think what you're saying is really uh prudent for that but I just want to get through the final bits and pieces for the Carlton team no it's okay um The Horizon Finance group player of the game was lucky Cowan well young man uh I guess we'll play the game of chat having a Guess Who was the Riser of the game who had the highest score based on what they were expected to there can't be that many options to guess this one right unfortunately it's giving it away but phenomenal yeah he really was something wasn't he's 19 years old mate yeah and Ma you get a lot you get a lot of [ __ ] who sign for football clubs and straight away they go oh my granddad supported them my mom supported them my dad my first memory was sitting on my all that bollocks yeah he said the same thing and you know what he went out there and he showed me like he showed me that he was playing for his granddad yeah he was playing for his dad he was playing for all them games he's watched that was but but even more important he yeah nailed it Terry he was playing for himself he he was out there going I'm going to go home tonight and whether I win lose by a 100 or 500 at least I can look myself in the mirror and go I gave it all out there and incredible performance incredible yeah stoked with him and then we'll go to the medal The Horizon Finance group Player of the Year Awards this is the player who has the highest average Patrick Crips bump a little bit of SE uh 8.43 let's go here cuz I want to unpack this we've got three players from hathorn that we're going to look at that really hurt us and why so pommy oh oh man actually rate Josh wed he's not one of those players that I think we turn into a superstar but he was pretty good well I mean let's talk about Josh wed so what we've been talking about their system is their system isn't too dissimilar from C's back end of last year to now differences has changed a 100 times but Josh wed one of my favorite players in the draft a couple of years ago because he had something that Cowan had he had heart but he has also got an incredible ability an IQ and when he was drafted he was build as a medium Defender but there was the famous talk could be a midfielder could be a forward we just don't know that was probably his big knock what are you and and he gave you a master class on playing your playing your role he kept his width couldn't work it out 605 meters gained took his goals well his disposal efficiency so easy when 95% of your touches are in space to just [ __ ] hit a Target and get a metronome Mark's really good as well worked hard he is such a fantastic player whether it be down the back or like this week keeping your width and being that auxiliary out there an incredible discipline from him and uh yeah great to watch great to watch simple football done well mate give him three seasons he's going to take the competition by storm he's got all the elements he's got the athleticism to match with it too mate and he's he's he's such a clever cookie just such a clever cookie and it's one of them things that if you ever watched him in the draft he was just he was very very good Vic Metro particularly his ability to do what he did this week of playing almost like a high halfback just really entertaining and we've flirted with this idea incidentally with uh with Mr Loy Cowan y um so it's an interesting thing but let's see the next player was Dylan Moore and talk about work rate oh my goodness this is borderline the perfect game this is a game that literally old old um old pommy's algorithm just like was like okay yeah baby you've given me a footballer which is nice um Dylan Moss so I mean you got to remember life Dylan M started his life as a forward right and one of the nicest human being you'll meet as well they they're all actually quite nice to Hawks guys it's sickening but um one thing you've seen this year with him is his ability to pinch it in the Midfield over the last year but now almost play like high half forward almost wing and you're really seeing the fruits you've seen Mr Weddle on one side Darcy Moore on the other and their ability look 26 uncontested his ability to stay free this is something that Walsh needs to watch yes you might want to help your players and we've seen games like the gws game go and watch Dy M's game there almost an inside midfielder for most of the game that game he knows what to do and when he's been told to do a job you can see he was disciplined you can see Darcy and wed were told stretch Caron stretch them keep your width and eventually that will open up 11 score evolvements every time this guy got the ball it was a problem and then they've got that diagonal bow and you know if you've been watching me for a long time diagonal bow is P's favorite word because it is the Antichrist of Caron football club yeah really is man this guy the beneficiary of that diagonal it's all right I'll Stand in space because count W guard it killing us and S10 mate phenomenal player and you can say bit like Loy Cowan this guy grew up a hawker like he loves this club loves this he play like it and then the final one was joh Nukem this one hurt me got to be my fantasy team in my draft hasn't had the best year thought he was going to really explode this year based on the way he finished last year but boy did he tear us up a lot of players that I could have given here I wanted to give D Ambrosia um some Kudos I wanted to give Sicily some Kudos as well I didn't want it to turn into Haw on abroad though because I could probably have gone through their entire team yeah and touched myself um but why why why is you come here not the others because of his role um very George hwit this guy is as tough as a gypsy's coughing nail tough as coughing now and the sacrificial work he does is really really underrated his ability to stop Crips get into the ball when Crips did Break Free the ability to keep hwi always at arm length and free up really really strong and what is's amazing is his numbers aren't ex exceptional what he does is's very off the ball and nuanced and it was only an 8.5 but he pretty much controlled that Midfield particularly around stoppage and if you're West Coast Eagles if you're St Kilda you're watching this and saying right okay this is how you destroy them around stoppage you just got to take one of them boys out of there because Mr Sam Walsh will force himself onto the ball Blake akres will come helping and J nukan was the proverbial light to the moth for kton they they they couldn't help but attack him yeah a real disciplined player um what on to the Hawks hey I mean you got to you've got to just respect it first time since Sydney game that we've been absolutely decimated like decimated like from from start to front and I mean people asking for pet tra like guys and girls we've all due respect one player ain't fixing this you I'll tell you now you could put Christian petraca Marcus bonell Jeremy Cameron [ __ ] give weer in Harris Andrews and with their attitude and their application and their willingness within two or three years there would be a ninth best side in the league quite quickly they wouldn't even drag their heels to it true we're just still stuck here with the Messiah complex just propping everyone up propping everyone up telling everyone how this individual is better than that individual may like that total team Buy in from the Hawks yesterday I don't know if we'll ever get there as a club that's just not us and and maybe that maybe we're not ever going to be like that maybe we're not supposed to ever be that way um which like I was saying mp63 Nails it on paper it's a shame this is the AFL football league [ __ ] origami League we'd be on 25 Flags yeah it's just you know you put that monogram on and then it just comes with all the [ __ ] doesn't it all the [ __ ] that comes with it and I think what's annoying like for me my anger isn't at the performance like you know what bad performances I can cut with yeah yeah my anger is they are so much better than what they are they are so much better and they continually let themselves down the coaches let the players down like even if you go back and I watch the Sydney game you look at the decimation it was only in stoppage the decimation was but everything else was with about six points MH of this was like negative3 everything like this was a complete blow out across the system across the playing group like I don't think anyone won and yeah and it's not just at the coaching team it's at the Players as well like the full grown adults like to not try even though you don't agree with something is equally as bad as being incompetent in my opinion like unprofessional mate and I'd be a horrible father if I gave these players a pat on the back because I expect from my boys I expect them to always reach the expectations they're capable of so I'm not going to give them a copout either like if you don't agree with what Voss is telling you to do I don't give a [ __ ] do your qualifications retire and become a coach you can make your opinion then right now you are paid to play football and you do it to the best of your abilities regardless of where you play and like I am sick of sick of everyone always getting an out oh fos he's got injuries oh Russell injured this player how about do your [ __ ] recovery how about being an adult and saying I do a hamstring when I sneeze maybe I'll retire and give an 18 year old the chance to [ __ ] play football instead of being selfish and taking 300K a week hoping I'll [ __ ] be fit how about that how about that hey how about pretending you give a [ __ ] the thing is right they had an 8-day break there is no way that they were every single one of them and and ALS as individuals and as a collective there's no way that they did their diligent best to prepare physically and mentally for this game as a collective and that is the part that really stings like it's round it was round 22 and it just rre of a lack of diligence it rre of disconnection um how do you have something in the palm of your hands and have everyone around you continue to fall over and you still find a way to drop it what more motivation do you want two days two games three games to go three games to go it's still your hands win them haon the memories against haon we always talk about that you know every time count and play someone I'm always told this driil oh they've got the wood on us we've got the wood on haon last two games one of them we absolutely battered them and one we absolutely battered them and they didn't play football for two quarters and still ended up winning the the wood was well and truly mentally in the Blues favor turn up play your hard brand your hard Edge we can probably do this but as usual we went so safe and that game plan honestly like give the players a cop out for that the game plan against hon was asking to be [ __ ] like you might as well have just said to Sam Mitchell do you reckon you can put a 100 on before three quarter time because I reckon that was the plan that's the other thing too I mean they're so young in their development I I don't even want to use the word development with Hawthorne anymore because I feel like that's disrespectful but they're so it's so soon in they've already got Killer Instinct and do you know what the biggest thing what the biggest thing that H have and Collinwood have it and Sydney have it and just about every football club has it apart from us is the ability to be themselves the ownership of this is what we are we don't care this is what we are and we don't care right and you don't see that in the players like you you know me and my mate were chatting this morning and I said yeah you look at it and how many of the players do you see speak ing game out of game and you believe that's who they are like you believe that's who they are how they word things how the disparity between all these players and it's Bary to me like it's bar me and then you look at the coaching how it's changed I I'm not too sure why vosy is sitting all the time down at the bottom it's not working it's not working get upstairs like but like but but like the the two loudest voices at the club is everyone always defending the players they don't need mothers right they they need fans who pay a lot of money to expect [ __ ] standards and if the players don't like that I'd question you know what I I'd say if the players are upset by people being a little bit upset with them walking out maybe get on the phone to your parents and your parents can maybe tell you [ __ ] out toughen up you knew what you're doing if my kids were ringing me up and saying Dad I'm playing AFL football for C saw a podcast day and someone called me a prick you know what I'd say to him mate you should have thought about that before you [ __ ] devoted your life to it hey don't don't come crying at me mate like people are allowed an opinion you don't ask for it to be easier yet stronger at being able to withstand it I mean like but I suppose that is society like Ben says you get people in the crowd saying someone said [ __ ] in the crowd and I had to leave because my poor Nana's precious ears like may maybe I am wrong M like M maybe I need to go back to the 1980s but yeah I mean even the words changed like only six weeks ago we were about pressure our brand was built on intent inity you've got to play four quarters to beat you now what is it we're Bound by a collar what's going on Terry like come on boys dig deep I know it's tough no it's not nice it's hard but guess what life is hard man life is hard nothing worth having is [ __ ] worth giving to you but we change more than our slogan Terry well don't we I read this out to you recently I was going to wait for seven but I thought you know what I'll bring it here um my brother-in-law sent me this recently I think there's you listen to what I'm about to say and take from it what you will um this process happens slowly enough that in any one lifetime we don't really see it happening but if you look closely you see it think how confused a 1990 person would be if you ask them to help you find that Lit meme about crypto podcasts everyone was posting on their insta stories well think about the terms and phrases your grandparents use that have gone out of style and no young person would ever use or even the slightly different ways old people and young people pronounce words now multiply this little bucket of differences by 20 and you have a totally different language deep it's all right though because I got [ __ ] blue colors on bro you know that the you know the the worst part about it is first of all nobody won this competition I'm going to be giving this away as soon as possible later on in the year he's got two collars on his just he put his hand on his [Laughter] Co so um this I will be scarred thinking about this now forever I'll think of yesterday when I that's sexiest gy ever as well like SE that's the sexiest [ __ ] like honestly I would have worn that and I would have felt like I had like a [ __ ] 20 inch in be pants I would have been like I look dancer baby bro it is the best thing they've brought out and it's just a reminder we just can't have nice things even the AFL logo I don't know who had the the flag of the AFL logo in the crowd that was so cool man oh and then honestly it's not the gsies right it's not like like like like chat calm down I I know anyone over the age of 30 probably bar me likes to think the old days were better I I'm not naive I don't see it as a personal attack because I've seen some people think oh people are [ __ ] on the history no yeah your history is there but I always think of the army I always look at this because good friend of mine went into the army and my pot wor shed him obviously going to the war my pop wor worshiped this young lad willing to do it when there wasn't anything on the line like my granded always had that brain I did it when I had to go you're doing it because you want to serve and that makes you a little bit of a a hero in his eyes but he always used to say that the wording was always trusty from the British army it wasn't following it wasn't ever feeling like you were in the shadow it was that mutual respect that you are going and you are not following you are honoring the heroes of the past and I think that's impos important when you look at history you don't worship them you don't put them on a pedestal you simply see this is what he's capable of when everything's good and you don't live in their Shadow you want to join them in IM morality join a moral not follow and I think that's really important for a psychological perspective you honor the past you create the future and you honor it by creating the future that way you can all sit at the table together and share your stories of how you did it together rather than have the stories passed down to you and I I think the whole that we have right now is in the same way that the previe I don't really understand what it's like to be living in a generation where we had flags and liveed through it the same in that exact same way that generation doesn't know what it's like to be my age or our age and not having seen any of that and have it having it spat at us constantly without without knowing what it felt like it's it's it's this it's this Gap no one's right no one's wrong it's not about right or wrong it's just a totally different experience um I know people that when they was you know 19 they had seen three of them I'm 33 I've seen none so on both ends it's really hard to show empathy you know and it's just frustrating on both ends and and and I'll say this look what has respect game Milestones anniversary games got in common with this group of players and with the past group of players invariably they lose so does it have any hus on them probably [ __ ] not like to be honest probably not and I I I feel like it's really really really really important that you kind of maybe get out of your own arrogance you know I mean like I I'm getting an old man my kids listen to some absolute dog [ __ ] like some of the people that they idolize but I am humble enough to know that maybe times changed I never forget going back to England having a beer with my mate he's got two 10 year olds like me same age and he was like this oh mate like [ __ ] Perfecto in it don't want to go outside and like I sat there and thought about it for and I was like of course they don't want to [ __ ] go outside [ __ ] because when we were kids our games were black and white and look [ __ ] like yeah I am quite honest enough to know if FIFA looked as good as it did now you think I would have wasted my time getting kicked by my mates playing football and then getting beaten up by the older kid stealing my ball [ __ ] that I would have played FIFA inside I'm not naive like yes he was great but but I always think this can you imagine being constantly referred to as David Reese Jon did this sticks did this oh you're the yeah yeah how about be the next Patrick Crips man me how about that H how about be the next flag Winning Side and join it and that's something that Mitchell does at haor do you think he talks about the dynasty does he [ __ ] because he's talking about today's Dynasty the dynasty you're going to bring this football club it's about what you deliver not what they delivered what you deliver and that's so important you deliver it you're not following you're joining well I've just got one more thing to really play to people like me who believed and people like you who believed pom and people who sat there in the crowd yesterday in the sun biscuit asked hey what before we go because I've heard you do it now and I've heard Booky do it and you're two people that I respect for different reasons this bollocks I am hearing from the fans needs to stop because this pisses me off more than the ABJ bollocks I have to say being excused as football of apologizing for believing like [ __ ] me I heard Booky say that I'm really sorry I made you believe we'd beat Haron who the [ __ ] are you apologizing to because I tell you what there isn't enough [ __ ] hope in this world so you're you're apologizing for having the audacity to believe something you love and you value may get better never ever apologize Terry ever let me catch you hearing for having belief that something will change because you know what happens when you don't believe something changes when you don't believe something will get better you become my big brother who unfortunately a few years ago killed himself you lose hope you lose belief that tomorrow will get better and you know what that does it leaves a [ __ ] train wreck of people that all they want to do is speak to their big brother so you always the best thing you can have in life is a belief even though it doesn't look good it may get better tomorrow because if you don't [ __ ] me we all may as well commit Harry carry now tell you who should apologize the [ __ ] players the [ __ ] coaches the [ __ ] [ __ ] in the B who piss off to Barley whenever they want they should [ __ ] apologize because they're the ones continually bastardizing hope and love and bastardizing the fan base and [ __ ] he will fly from Queensland dressed up in outfits for the players because they believe belief is the strongest thing in the world and no one ever ever apologize for believing and being wrong that something might get better because I tell you what the minute you start being that it's very dark path so I'm telling you now if you've ever said this week I'm sorry for believing him [ __ ] me don't because tomorrow has to get better because you know what for some people that that's all they have tomorrow all they have tomorrow will be a little bit less [ __ ] than today never apologize that Terry you're we're too smart and influential for doing that true that's the beautiful part of you Terry that you've done so many of these reviews with me where we want to cry and we come back tomorrow Terry we come back tomorrow that that's that's something that we should be proud of you know what I'm proud of that I didn't quit last night I didn't refuse to not do the review I sat there I put my big boy pants on and said I owe it to the people and the club that I will do this review and I will watch the game again because that's what I always do right so I'm not going to apologize for that they should [ __ ] apologize to me you know what they're not going to because they don't care right and that's appreciated don't apologize to pommy or Terry but that is the example we set Terry we believe and you these players should be listening to this right now and going [ __ ] hell these two [ __ ] Believe in Us we bastardized whatever that was last night that's huge I wish someone would believe in me like we believe in them because I don't have any who believes in me like that they're not here anymore I know you do I believe [ __ ] gross bro it's all right though Luke Sayers he had a [ __ ] ol didn't he that went on the besties then went on the besties and go LS off [ __ ] please please boys if you're listening [ __ ] start winning I am sick around [ __ ] me not again not here watching Josh wed when he can't even grow a [ __ ] mustache and he's [ __ ] dancing around like his [ __ ] Gary ablet junior yeah imagine kicking five goals eight in 2024 and then you got like criticism of the aflw because they don't score enough you're 160 years ahead of him you know what I want to shout out Faz wherever he is because we're currently in the middle of a dynasty FPL draft and you know what you know when it's bad I always teach my kids no matter how bad your day is at school or your your day wherever you are just find something to cling on to like something that just gives you some help and we we're in the middle of a Dynasty football draft in the UK and honestly that has kept me going because I'm like okay names on a sheet being drafted like keep me keep me keep me alive like f it's all right though we got West Coast like yeah tonight way Terry tell the people uh I've got Joe Ado yeah they didn't do a um um yeah they didn't do their episode this week live I think they're GNA be recording some audio but uh yeah he called me this morning and he was even yeah I actually talk five backto back calls this morning it was like another session of fan cams um it is beautiful to see how much we care yeah you you know it's nice and you know what it's it was quite funny because I went on blue bagg's edge last night and he asked why I jumped out and I was like me and Terry at each of's fan cams people don't know this relationship for each other but I was like Terry has to have a van R van rans at someone else like we we all get to shout and call him a [ __ ] but he doesn't get to call anyone a come I need to be irrational at some point throughout the week as well [ __ ] hell yeah I was like it's so important I was like so it's a it's a beautiful thing isn't it I mean the only positive I can give you is we've got each other so like I've seen a lot of people start to fall into that trap and I do it sometimes I just want to call someone a [ __ ] it's really hard because when I get angry and hurt I want to destroy something so they feel as bad as me it's my toxic trait but don't do it because all we've got really get rid of the flags get rid of all the ridiculous [ __ ] all we've really got is each other yep do you I mean all we've got is each other like at the end of the day strip it all back we've got this whatever this is I don't even know what this is anymore so make sure this is always a place where mean you know tell what this is a [ __ ] social experiment we are putting on some sort of a research project together that someone's going to do pick up one day and we wear dead and win a Nobel Peace Prize about like how sport affects human behavior and mental health I genuinely think we've done this so long together that I actually think we're an experiment to see how far can you push your man until he breaks and I reckon we might be like a year too long into The Experiment they're like really thought they'd break by now yeah how many times can you come in public and get humiliated oh at the EXP just so opposition supporters can come and like you can entertain them oh Carlton mate I genuinely sometimes think it makes me a bad parent because it it really lowers my tolerance to give a good spray this just like like like honestly like [ __ ] hell it's all right it's all right d because at least you were at Zach Williams this week like like honestly one of the kids broke something this morning right that was quite valuable and I actually was all out of anger I felt like a like like a beaten house wife I was just kind of like it's okay we we'll get it repaired you just get yourself ready like I was like I don't have it in me just to tear up what the [ __ ] is this well that's that thanks for tuning in everyone I do feel a little bit better than an hour and 53 minutes ago um thanks to Horizon Finance group for sponsoring the show thanks to you pommy stick around in five minutes the BL broad show will be live Joe has has just gifted five blue abroad memberships thank you very much Joe um and we'll see you guys in the blue abroad show good night peace love and light
