doesn't it it does you know I was thinking how special this moment is how special this competition is and how we fell in love with this game and with the UFA Champions League when we were kids watching these moments unbelievable exactly that exactly that what a start then to tonight's Main Event hello and welcome everybody to the 20242 UEFA Champions League draw which this season as you all know introduces a brand new format to the greatest Club competition in the world that's absolutely right rashman this is an historic night for everyone ever since its Inception in 1955 the European Champions clubs cup as it was originally known has evolved of course and now the UEFA Champions League and its 70th season would you believe it already will debut a brand new format that will deliver the best of the best for clubs players and fans absolutely right the competition will kick off with a new league phase to replace the former group stage and it'll feature 36 teams in a format designed really to give us all more competitive matches between Europe's top teams if anyone's still a little bit confused we will be explaining all of it as we go along lots to look forward to then that's for sure as this incredible competition gets even better coming up we'll be bringing you the live draw where we'll find out who's going to be playing who in this comp competition right but before that it's time to hand over two very special Awards absolutely right first up is the president's award and for that I would like to invite onto the stage the UFA President Alexander cherin [Applause] welcome president it is great to see you in this magical setting here in Monaco for the season kickoff event um your president Awards winner this season had such an amazing career nearly 30 years on the pitch World Cup he won 10 sias Calas League a he's considered by many to be the best goalkeeper ever if you can tell us who you selected to confirm I selected Gigi Buon well Gigi is here in the room with us we're going to welcome him onto the stage in just a moment but before we do let's get a reminder of some of the highlights from what really has been a glittering career [Applause] [Music] tanturri G uh please could you tell us Alexander why did you choose XII to be the award recipient this year it's quite simple to explain the most the most kept goal player goalkeeper in history the most kept Italian player ever the fourth most kept uh uh European football player but most of all a very good person a person that was not just a teammate for his teammates but also their second father their teacher and he always raised voice for for the de privileged people so I'm sure he's number one to deserve this trophy wonderful and if I can add something personal for me personally the best goalkeeper ever in history wow that's High Praise it's too much G you some amazing compliments from the UF for president um I want to talk to you about the Champions League such a special night for the competition's history what did it mean to you when you were playing because you made over 100 appearances yes it was the the biggest reason why I played for such a long time because um but not because I wanted to win it but because I enjoy playing it it's a different without a doubt is the most important competition for soccer now of course you've hung up your gloves now and your boots but you're still very much involved in football tell us about your role with the Italian national team my role is becoming more and more important thanks to Italian president and Italian Federation for that and I hope to be able to repay their reason because I will mean doing a good job for the national team and returning to being ambitious and winning as history requires to us wonderful I hope you we wish you all the best of luck with all of it gii and you're going to be staying with us because XI will be helping us to conduct the new look Champions League draw in a moment which is great news because you know he's safe hands and everything so we're glad to have you with us but you will also be joined by another footballer who we will also be honoring tonight oh yes rashman he is a five-time UEFA Champions League winner he's won multiple League titles in England Spain and Italy won the Euro as well for Portugal he is a recordbreaker the greatest goal score this competition has career I don't I don't see how it could turn better for you uh you know if we think about champions league if we think about Euro we think about Cristiano if we think about football we think about Cristiano so an amazing career amazing player that absolutely deserves this now I have a problem with Cristiano Ronaldo as well because unfortunately he doesn't play the best competition anymore but since we all know that he he's probably the only one who is not aging that I know we can still hope that he's coming back one day so congratulations I mean we would love to see you back in the Champions League because to be honest as someone who works in it and as fans as well I mean you came alive in this competition it's been such a pleasure to watch you in it but what is it about the Champions League it's like you have this love affair with this competition I play Asian League don't forget that okay it's Champions League too now for me it's it's a pleasure to be here thank you for this amazing award means a lot to me uh as you know Champions League it's it's the highest in football uh I had opportunity not only you know the record speak for itself but I don't mean that I mean the pleasure to play in that competition as Buon say it's our motivation when you listen to music it's you're turning on you know it's it's crazy and for me it's it was special because I win so many Champions League draw of course and this year's competition will be like nothing we have ever seen before with more top European matches earlier in the competition more competitive balance between the teams and more riding on every single match Mr President are you almost here a minute away what's wrong what is this this doesn't make any sense well I know you want us to explain the new Champions League format in this video group stage but there is one problem and it's a big one don't look at me wow none of us understand the new format Mr President GG this is not that that difficult maybe not tonight is very special for many reasons first we pay tribute to the group stage and the countless magic moments that it brought us since the 90s what began in 1992 as a rebirth of the European Cup the UEFA Champions League made this competition the more most resounding success for fans all around the world the format has already evolved several times and most notably the reforms implemented in 99 and 2003 gave the UFA Champions League the shape that has taken us on such a fantastic Journey till today meanwhile a single truth became evident to leave this trophy is to achieve the Pinnacle of Club football and today we step into another era the new league face will maximize excitement and unpredictability as every goal and every save may change the course of the season for the teams in play and even for those playing on other fields the UFA Champions League will continue to showcase the very best that European football has to offer while at the same time being even more inclusive as it Embraces 36 teams its foundation remains a purely sporting Merit its success gate is exclusively the Pyramid of domestic competitions and on behalf of UEFA a warm welcome to all participating clubs with a special congratulations to breast to Girona and to slovan Bratislava who are in this competition for the very first time in their history but also to Bologna and Aston Villa making a welcome return after six and four decades respectively so enjoy this Landmark season we wish you the very best of luck and uh as the format is new the draw is also new and uh we take a close look at the technical procedure the 36 teams that have qualified for the league phase are divided into four pots pot One features the UEFA Champions League title holders plus the top eight qualified teams in the UEFA Club coefficient ranking partt two comprises the next nine qualified teams in the ranking and so on for pots three and four the draw will determine the eight opponents for each team that they will face during the new league phase to assign these teams opponents a computer software will be triggered to select at random two eligible teams from each pot it will take into account the following conditions before selecting the opponents teams from the same National Association cannot be drawn against each other teams can face a maximum of two opponents from any one other National Association starting with pot one a ball is manually drawn at random and opened to display the team at which point an automated software randomly draws eight opponents for this team two from each pot including for each opponent whether they are played at home or away the software randomly draws opponents from each pot from amongst all the valid options while ensuring that the draw can be continued until the end once a valid allocation has been drawn by the software the opponents and which matches are played at home or away will be [Music] revealed the process is repeated until all nine teams from pot one have been drawn and assigned their eight opponents any opponent that has already been drawn does not need to be revealed and will be displayed directly in the opponent's overview once all nine pot one teams have been drawn pot two will follow with a ball again manually drawn at random as all opponents of pot one have been designated the software moves immediately to draw two opponents at random from each of pots 2 to 4 again allocating which matches are played at home and which are played away pot three and pot four will be completed as per the same procedure as previous pots with only opponents from the relevant remaining pots to be drawn each time it is important to note that the display of ties is shown for the Home and Away ties by pot and does not represent the order of the matches of each team the match calendar with the dates and kickoff times of the matches will be released on Saturday [Music] right it's almost time to get the draw for the 20242 Champions League going following ones and Cristiano will be pressing the button with the beautiful Champions League logo on there that will prompt the computer to allocate opponents automatically so gentlemen georgo historic moment over to you historic moment Pedro you're right the heartbeat is on the rise for everyone for the fans especially and the new champions league is in the safe hands of Mythic gig Buon start with the first team ever drawn in the new UFA champions League the first team is Manchester City wow we start with the Manchester City champions for the fourth consecutive time in England it never happened before them and uh so it's a big start we're ready now what we need to do is to allocate the first opponents to Manchester City push on the star ball and we go okay historic moment indeed this is who Manchester City will be playing in the league phase of the Champions League from pot one they have been allocated inter at home and they will be playing Paris San gerain away from pot two they have a home tie against Club Bru and they are away against Juventus pot three they're at home to fire in away to sporting the club the Portugal and from part four they play Sparta praha and they travel to newcomer slovan Bratislava good this is Manchester City's pathway throughout the first League phase GG let's go ahead there is not just Manchester City of course plenty of uh big names fantastic players and we continue second one international we continue now with the FC International Milano they will restart from their 300 goals scored till the very last goal they scored last year and this competition so for Internationale we know that they will play with Manchester City away but who are the other seven Cristiano you will tell us there it is Cristiano has pressed the button and the computer has produced the fixtures we already knew about Manchester City so we've got leish at home in pot two it's Arsenal away and buer Arsenal at home and Bayer lusin away in partt three they'll be hosting Sera vesda and traveling to to Switzerland to play young boys and in pot four it's a home match against is Monaco and an away tie with Sparta praha that is the journey for
