Deuce and Sean breakdown the Saints roster with cut down day approaching

we now welcome in Saints Hall of Famer Fox ha Saints analyst Duce mallister dece we watched the game if you watch the game like we all did we saw number 18 had a very very good day arguably top two or three performances of of of of his entire Camp Spencer R I'm talking about um how much did he help himself in the qb2 battle with Jake hner today well he definitely helped himself and I think for him you know the game slowed down a little bit and he understood and he knew where he wanted to go with the football didn't force anything really um the throws I mean they were pin you know you're talking about pinpoint I'm throwing to a spot and I'm trusting my guy to go and get it you know there probably one or two where his receivers have to catch it I remember one ball that's a slant rout and um I think it was Bud mes has got to come up with that catch and then one uh Jacobs was running like almost a skinny post and and and the ball hits him but it's almost on the back HP well you've got to slow down he's hitting you there cuz he doesn't want you to get blown up and the the safety uh actually did hit himself and I think he hurt himself uh on that play but uh he was really really impressed and I mean uh he's made that decision a little bit tougher on the Saints it was interesting because da complimented haers last week how he really taking a step in practice I didn't think he was bad today uh I thought he was decent had some moments a little up and down um but I just thought Rattler had clearly had the better game today well my problem with both of those guys they understand and they know the situation so sometimes where it's let me get rid of the football type plays you see him try to spin out and and you know last week it was Rattler with the fumble this week it was recovered by the same but it was Jake with the fumble but it's it's it's almost a hero play where I need to make something happen and normally it's just hey just throw the ball away you know you don't it's okay to throw it away and it be incomplete and I live to see the next play and uh you know when you're a young quarterback you want to make every rep counts that kind of what where where where it falls at yeah one player that I do feel like has been consistent especially over the last week week and a half in fact I'll go as far as to say this I believe Blake groupy is going to be the Saints kicker in 2024 he had another great kick today what do you think about this character competition yeah when you go back to the incumbent role or the draft pick conversation with uh coach Dennis Allen I'm probably always going to lead with an Inc combat having a lead uh dra uh somebody else has to really take it for take it away whether it's pner or Charlie Smith the kicker it's very close but I think Blake was determined to go out and prove and show that hey it would be a mistake for you not to go with me and he he kicked it and you know I think from a nerve standpoint he was really not nervous he did an outstanding job with you know just being able to execute whether it's uh situational football where it's the end of two minutes or I've got to go out there and just make a kick and and and Hammer it you know I think it was a long what a 55 that he he hit you're going to have to have some of those this year and I think you know if you go with him you're confident that he can get it done yeah and I think I think there's been a little different level of confidence with him over the last week week and a half which is obviously huge for a kicker one player I got to say didn't think I I did not think this player had a chance at all when I first saw him in LA first couple practices but has steadily gotten better and better culminated with a very good effort today that's Jacob kabot UL from bat Rouge um that's is a young player I don't know if there's a spot for him but I do think he helped himself here today yeah I was pleased and proud of him because I know exactly what you're talking about and you see the rush you see the anticipation you see almost like startled in a sense just because it's moving so fast but I thought it slowed down for him today and I thought the patience he had did a good job on patience and you know when the outside run was there he hit it and so with him being a bigger back linebackers are just going to normally hang on him and so he's just got to trust what I see and uh I thought he got better and I thought today you know was really uh almost like solidification for him to say yes I may not make the roster but I deserve to be on the practice squad and I can continue to get better we know the next 48 hours 24 hours whatever it's going to be it's going to be tough for the Saints where are the toughest decisions going to come for the Saints as a wide receiver running back lineman what do you think all three I think you look at it from an offensive line standpoint you know do I keep eight lineman do I keep nine linemen you know how do I uh put some guys in position to be able to help me even on the practice squad the other one with receivers do I keep five receivers do I keep six receivers you know same situation are there guys that are veterans that I can put on practice squad and not expose some young players uh running back that market is going to be uh you're going to look at it so not only from the transactions that other teams make but even from a trade standpoint you know I think that that's going to be a situation where they're willing to maybe give up an asset or two from a draft pick standpoint to be able to get the right player in the in the building because I felt this way for the last week or so you will have three to five new players on this team and I'm not I'm not just talking about roster claims I could see them making a move for a trade you know a situation like that but uh I I see three to five new players uh on the 53 man roster not just as far as uh practice squat guys as well we'll see what happens dece preseason is over thankfully but the real thing is about to get started thank you no problem
