decision just haven't communicated and honestly I want those guys to to hear it first from me before they hear it from someone else you know I know everyone uh wants to know that I'm going to talk to the individual players tomorrow I'm going to have a team meeting tomorrow and then I'll get it to you guys I think it's important to remember like what good for the team today may not be good for the team weeks down the weeks down the line and so I think the you know the challenge is you want to win every single game now but also we're trying to build something special here so that that to me was you know that was a challenge all right Cory why were you shaking your finger at what he said what's good for the team today may not good be good for the team down the line or at a later date however eight if he struggles there seems like a natural progression to go and pull the bridge quarterback that you had as a veteran in there you brought him in to give your rookie time to come along right that seems like I I found the one spot like they can credit me for this I found the spot where you can insert Drake May the number three overall pick in the draft into the lineup and he can become your starting quarterback roughly Midway through the season it makes sense yeah it makes sense but if if it was me I'm starting Drake May early he's your dude right now I know jaob brassette can be that bridge quarterback can be that veteran presence whatever that's going to be let's keep it 100 the ped's going to stink this year anyway if you're going to stink stink with your rookie quarterback and put him out there Drake May seems to be very unflappable that whatever happens is not going to break him it's not going to shake him and damage his confidence to be your quarterback of the future by making him in my opinion your quarterback of the present and I I get it Courtney they still have PTSD from what happened with M Jones gerro May was a part of that staff in which let's be honest M Jones didn't help himself but the pagers did not help him either in the final stages of the last dance of Bill bich where they completely ruined this guy by having Matt Patricia and Joe judge calling plays when they had never done that at NFL level because they thought that Patriot Way was going to overcome anything else regarding M Jones and they completely completely ruined that guy that's why Doug Peterson with Jacksonville Jaguar's head coach where M Jones is now took shots of the Patriot organization saying this guy's not a bad quarterback I don't know what went on New England and he was being kind I'm of that ilk that if you believe in a guy like Drake M whatever kind of schedule's out there you look at a guy and say man that's not going to break him it's going to make him and I think if you start him from day one and let him learn on the ropes with that tough schedule that's going to benefit the Patriots in my opinion years and years down the line instead of having jacobe brette as that bridge because that schedule is definitely very d hunting at the beginning of the season I could not disagree anymore I knew you would we don't even have to go back very far to figure out how throwing somebody into the mix far earlier than they're ready plays out at a point where they might have like their confidence completely broken and might have their career over before it really gets started look at the Carolina Panthers last year Bryce young number one overall pick generational Talent or whatever other label that they lofted on him when he was drafted by Carolina he goes to a team that was an abject failure last year he gets sacked a ton of times he's put behind a porous offensive line that got him hurt that did him no favors did you see that offensive line in in New England the other day against Washington you see jakobi brassette get killed by that free rusher because nobody apparently could block him you want to do that to Drake may you want to ruin the confidence of your number three overall pick from the very onset when you don't have to it's not like he's in a situation where he has to play you know people talk about Caleb Williams the quarterback that I cover for ESPN and I cover the Chicago Bears like he's in a situation where a it's not that he's just ready to play like he has to there is they're not going to go to Tyson bent they're going to go to the number one overall pick because they have built them their team in a way that they're not throwing him into a situation that's going to be too steep of a climb for a rookie quarterback to make right away like he's in a good situation the Patriots when they drafted at number three that was their own pick the Bears weren't drafting number one because they stunk so bad that they got the worst pick in the in the draft or had the worst record to get the best pick in the draft rather the Patriots were that bad from the very beginning because of what happened last year so you bringing a rookie quarterback in to a not so good team and expecting him to just figure it out like that's going to be a good situation I think that could ruin his career I completely disagree that it won't ruin his career and here's why because to your point about Jor Brett being behind that porest offensive line and he couldn't get away from that Drake May was able to find a way to get away from that as a younger player and figur it out on the run if anything by putting Jakob Brett out there behind the offensive line early you may want to playing Drake May sooner than later anyway because he can't get away from the rush we saw that in the preseason game against guys who are going to be working to Target a UPS in a couple of weeks and they couldn't do that with that offensive line you're GNA put job Brett behind those guys against First Team guys and he couldn't get away against second Team guys I'd rather play a drake May early and have a chance to protect him with a running game knowing that he can be better suited to get away from the rush that jakobi said has shown he can't get away from behind that porest offensive line something all situations are not the same and I'm not going to compare Bryce young to to Drake May in this situation because you're right about how bad they were last year but that Panthers organization is a terrible organization anyway the piges organization is not a terrible organization they're just trying to figure it out I trust in gerro May that he'll be able to figure that out to protu Drake May no matter what kind of offensive line play he's not going to get in 2024 I'd rather that I'm just I'm not ready to see a quarterback's career get off to a terrible start again we've seen this happen way too many times in previous years go listen to the greatest quarterback that the Patriots ever had in Tom Brady and what he said about rookie quarterbacks the red shirt year being able to learn like he did behind Drew bledo all those years not getting thrown into the mix before you're ready I just I really hope that I I understand what what gerod Mayo said that jacobe brassette would had been outplayed at least in recent weeks by Drake may I hope that it is jacobe brassette I believe that it will be jacobe brassette because the right decision if you don't want to damage your rookie quarterback before he's ready to play out there okay I'll counter Tom bringing you with with this quarterback CJ stra worked out pretty well for the Houston Texans last year they won their division they weren't supposed to be anything in that AFC South and
