SPL & EPL Results| O'Riley £30m Move To Brighton| Scotland Squad Announced| RIP Sven Goran Eriksson

[Music] hello everyone and welcome back to the football juger podcast my name is Thomas Ding and today I'm joined with my co-host Pierce mland hello Pierce hello how you doing I'm doing well on today's podcast H we'll be reacting to last weekend's English Premier League and Scottish Premier League results um we'll also talk a little bit about transfers we're now into the final week of the transfer um of the transfer uh summer CH window um we'll talk about Scotland Squad that's just been announced and so we'll discuss that H we'll also give a reaction to the news of sing G and Ericson's death H and at the end of the podcast Pierce will be giv a rundown of all the latest Asian fonus so we'll start off H as always with the English Premier League so um on Saturday the 24th of August the results finished Brighton two May unated one Crystal Palace n West Ham United 2 filam 2 Leicester city 1 Manchester City 4 epwi One Southampton nil noram Forest one H Tottenham 4 Everton nil Aston Villa n Arsenal 2 and then on Sunday the 25th of August we had three matches which finished Bournemouth one Newcastle one H wolves 2 Chelsea six and Liverpool to brenford now so Pierce as always which match stands out to you the most um so I'm going to go with the Tottenham four ever N I think um thought Tottenham play absolutely superb scored some tremendous goals P Pier Bunch was um used su's goal and it brought the deadlock where he just absolutely curled in off the crossb rock to end leaving Jordan pick up with no chance um and then second half as you saw got a couple of goals the second one the Run by Mickey van about 50 60s carrying the ball a center half and then just plays it son takes a touch and and you know the rest it's it's a goal um I just think the way to playing he's got them playing really well similar to last season but obviously he's got his players in this summer and obviously he's got his players fit as well he key players um and I think Tottenham had a br start last maintaining that um but I do think if they if they do keep the keepers fit and like you say they've some young talents you mentioned obviously last week they've signed young AR gray and they've also signed bval as well the Swedish midfielder as well so they've got some quality in there um so I think it's a young Squad and it's expi Squad at the same time I think they played really well I think in terms of Everton um had a really poor start the season on it's a unsh d like um um performance slash kind of a sequence of results at the moment because I can seeing far too many goals um and usually when you associate with Sean D it's like keep s in the game set pieces but I don't think they even like a threat to set pieces um at the moment so I think it's they just need a result to get them to get them cooking in terms of hopefully otherwise it will be a long painful season again for them um but no I thought in terms of the performance and obiously it's a standard result for me because I think no no Sean D team gets beat 40 and I think Tottenham and the way they played under an and the the quality goals he scored as well H was really Pleasant to see H yeah so my matches stood to me the most was Wills 2 Chelsea 6 h I think quite for quite obvious reasons with the the way the score line ended you don't every week see a match finish 62 um but that was a crazy game and that game wasn't on which was disappointing so there was no way kind of watch it but that match at half time was 22 then the second half Chelsea ran away with it and scored four goals in the second half H and I think you can see it was the N mad show h on Sunday at Wills quite an interesting wor about that because before the match H he landed himself in a bit of trouble H he posted on his private Instagram that basically H he was a bit unav towards wolves the city I think he was it he called a [ __ ] or something H said that he wasn't too pleased with the way wolves hly wol is in Birmingham but it wasn't he said that the place where wol is kind of situated H he wasn't the best plays with it um so yeah he was under a bit of pressure but I think he made the B SS even more mad because he goes on scores a hatrick on Sunday so yeah so yes so m n mad with a hattick Cole Palmer I think he scored on the day and he also set up three goals and in the world for M as well so I think there's a bit of a Mad Co Palmer kind of link up going on here um which is looks really exciting for Chelsea um we talked I mean we all talk about Chelsea in this podcast now but we talked last week about Chelsea against Man City and we kind of talked a lot about the issues but I think for once we can be a bit positive here about Chelsea well I can because you know I think if Enzo Marisa kind of gets a settled team I I think I think I think they've got a really exciting Squad that pack is really exciting with Alexa mad Cole Palmer Pedro Neto even Nicholas Jackson yeah Felix that now he did score actually in that game he scored the last goal um so yeah Chelsea wning 62 that's a really good result for them and is still a bit crazy with them um but ER M for heart trick I think he was the the story of that match um so yeah my match that stood out to me was a Chelsea 6 WS 2 obviously I agree with the Tottenham match uh you know they've got off to a really good start in the season and then OB I just want briefly touch on Brighton 2 man united W Brighton scored in the last minute at the game to to secure the three points um you know that was a really good match as well uh you know again man united they're going to be under pressure now because at the weekend they play Liverpool at Old Trafford and I think pen hag um I think he's going to have to get a result there because um they again they haven't really started the season well um and they didn't do that last season so he I don't think he can't afford to not start start the season well this season so yeah H my stand out match was rules to Chelsea 6 so just sticking on the English Premier League so um we're in now to the last week of the transfer window so as always the Premier League will be busy with um you know transfers lots of transfers ins and outs and so we'll start off with man united I think so it's not confirmed yet but it's looking likely now that Scott mccom will leave man united as it looks like he's going to join Napoli in a 30 million pound deal um and so he will leave to go to Napoli and if that happens then that will mean that man united will sign Manuel aarti from Paris s gerain and so yep so that looks like that's a deal that could happen um so what's your thoughts on that Pi I think it's I think it's a good move for both parties um I think Scot Tomy whenever he plays for Manchester United he's seen as an impact rotation player um and he does score goals big goals for him H I think they will they'll miss that but the fact is Scott mom is now at an age 25 26 year old where he needs to be playing regular football and he is a good quality midfielder technically very good in terms of hold of Midfield he's not a hold of midfielder as we know um he's more of a box to box a lives l in the box you'll get your goals and I think Manchester United fans as well have been very critical of them at times when I don't think it really helps when the team he's got around them is as Reckless as it is in terms of shape and out of possession a lot of players don't track back so I think he was kind of a scape for a lot of Manchester United fans and I think in terms of man united s signing a hold the midfielder so go in either instead of casmiro or alongside casmiro to offer that more solidity um I think it's a really good signing um I don't know an awful lot about Manuel G I know play for sport Lisbon then went to Paris last summer um but I've only seen him I don't really watch Paris San gerain games so I've only seen him for the national team of Uruguay and what for what I've seen here it's a very diminutive hardworking robust midfielder that does the dirty side of the game very well um so I think that's a bit what Manchester United need they need more solidity in the in the back line to protect the Center half and the field backs because I think at times man are very open and they're very exposed I think he offers legs as well and I think that's something casmiro lacks at this this stage of his career um no matter how good he is in the past um as you know he's getting a bit older now and looks as if he's a bit cumbersome to get in the park so I think in terms of both parties I think I think it's amazing to see another Scottish play in in Italy because we've seen Ferguson Josh do AR in the past um go over and do well so I think it's it's just another and also she Adams as well recently for toino scored at the weekend as well um so he's off a flyer over ity as well so long me a continuous young Scottish Talent or even he been Scottish Talent go over there and perform well and I think Italy will s well and I think he'll enjoy the lifestyle and I think he maybe learn a different side of the game I think he play a more important role for Napoli and I think Napoli as well will probably the challenge in terms of Europe and stuff in the league and the the cup so I think he potentially win more so he is at Napoli than he would at Manchester so I think maybe for all parties it's a good bit of business yep ER I actually I don't I don't understand the m to be fair and I think man united will be you know I think for Scott mcom I think quite an important man united player I think it's quite a surprise to be there to see moving if if it is going to happen and because I think he's important play for Man United he gets a lot of criticism um you know from the man united fans you know but he's come through the academy and you know last season he was one of top scorers you know he scored a lot of important goals for him last season and you know coming off in the bench especially H he was kind of scoring goals for them to either win the game or I think last season it was a game I think it was a against brenford Old Trafford H and he scored two 0-minute goals to win them the match 2-1 H so that just goes to show how important he is um so for Man United I'm quite surprised that they're kind of willing to sell him um because I think he's quite I think he's an important player for them H you know especially coming off the bench but maybe he's looked at it and thought that he wants he wants to play more maybe in Napoli can promis that you know he'll be a crucial player for them you know you'll start the majority of the match and maybe in his own mind he might just think it is time for something different and to experience a new le so and he's also that that was good point made there as well he may have looked at the Scottish players that have gone over there like L feron and hickey and how successful they've been going over there so um yeah May looked at that as well but H I'm quite surprised at that one um I think man united man united might be left to to r that that decision um later on the season because I think he's a really good player and then aarti I think it is a good move for man for Man United um hasn't really work to PSG for him he moved to PSG last summer from SP Lisbon for quite a big fee um he has that kind of I think he's that kind of set midfielder and he can get about the pitch well and that's I think that's kind of play that man united need at the moment in the middle of that pitch and and he's desperate to move I think he's been really really Keen to move to man united for quite a while now and so um yeah it's good for the player and good for the club and so that' be an interesting one um and yep that's another one for ten hag if he gets him in um so he's been really heavily backed T hag this transfer window and so I think yeah we're going to have for T hag he's going to be under pressure now because you know he has been backed H by by the club so um you know he's going to have to try and start getting results uh quickly same remember last season heavily backed in terms of signing veran Ronaldo and Sancho never walked and he get sacked Before Christmas yeah so I think is is that sort kind of escap escaped um in ter last end last year because we all knew that Manchester to bring the scenes were were in TMO and were kind of considering getting rid of him um but now that he's been heavily backed this summer I think let you say he will be under a bit more scrutiny and a bit more pressure if it doesn't doesn't get results starts taking a really bad turn of results I totally agree um you know he's been given a new contract he got given a new contract this summer as well H so the man united board have the certainly he's the right man to get into the the results so um you know he he has to um he has to because last season it wasn't good enough for Man United so um he has to have a successful season this season and if he doesn't then I think his job could be in danger um so yeah H that's my United so just before we move on it just quickly mentioned Liverpool so they had a really really quiet window but it looking likely that they're going to sign a couple of players so H it's not confirmed yet but the Valencia goalkeeper M dasy looks like now he's going to join Liverpool and so he'll join Liverpool but he will not join up with Liverpool next summer so he'll stay at Valencia this season and then he'll join up with Liverpool next season um so I think that could be something to do with Allison I'm not sure that that might suggest that this could be Allison Beckers last season at Liverpool because we all know that mad's he's top goalkeeper he's been quite a he's one of the best goalkeepers in the lia so um maybe that that's looking likely that he's coming to to be their number one I'm not sure um but yeah m d Philly and then I just want to get your thoughts on this one pierce about um federo ker what it looks it's it's been kind of reported by faici Romano that Liverpool are interested in the last few days of this window to try and get a deal done for feda so um he's out of the squad for Juventus andag M has told him that he's not part of the plans so he is looking for a new club and it's looking likely at the moment that it could be Liverpool so what you watching that I think Juventus are going a bit of Tero I think they the M of players that have put off a sale would have released or have told the no wanted and the squad is kind of ridiculous considering they were a lot of key players last year and um I think the Fe been touted for ke is really low um he is only 26 years old I think he's a quality player he has suffered injuries the last couple of seasons and not really hit the heights he did and because obviously we've seen how good he was at at the Euros for Italy he was the the key man um and when he was playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus he was he was electrifying him and dybala it was it was a a really frightening front line um and he paid a lot of money Juventus for him they got a two-year loan but they paid installments up I think was up to 60 60 million EUR so he was highly sought after um a lot of big clubs I want I think Man City have wanted him in the past as well but I think if Liverpool can get them for the fee I think there like 25 million euros which I think is a bargain um because I think you can play Anywhere along that front line but does that mean someone will leave at front lane from Liverpool because there's been talking Diaz got to man city um in the background so I don't know if that that maybe spark that but I think Liverpool if they had him to the front line would have already got Nunes J Salah gakpo it's yes and and obviously Harvey Elliott and Louis Diaz I mean it's quite a quite a frightening front forward L when you think about it um but also I'd like to mention as well when you Liverpool next summer Salah Allison and Virgil Van D contract will be expired so I don't know if that's Alexander arold as well Alexander Arnold as well so I don't know if Liverpool will want to renew all those contracts or any of them will will want to leave just on a fre um so I think maybe forward planning a little bit but it'll be interesting to see cu come January cuz a lot of those clubs will be wanting to to sign those four stars because they're they're incredible talents and they can offer a lot to a lot of big European SES um but I think Liverpool's main business although they've not seen many people um it will be to keep the key players if if they keep the the four key players even at least two or three of them then they'll still keep that Contin and I think themselves would be strong but if there was all four that's massive for next season um because they're four key Plus for them in terms of your your defense and attack and obv your goalkeeper and Allison let's be honest he's one of the best in the world um so not interested to see what happens to lpool but if they get G I think that'll be a really good addition to the forward Lane yeah um no I agree I just would just a b ker and I think that's a really interesting Ro um you know most stably I remember him in the Euros in 2021 when ity won the Euros he was really good in that tournament that was the first time kind of really caught my eye um you know really fasted player um you know he's done really well in this area he done really well for Juventus actually scored lots of goals he can play on the left he can play on the right um so I just thought it was interesting to mention because if he gets added to that L attack I mean that I mean with the attack they've got the moment and you know that is one powerful attack that they've got now if ker gets added to that as well um you know lots of players are going to be left out that's a lot of the attacking players are going to have to get left out because you can't play them all and so I just thought that was worth mentioning and because it looks like that could be a possibility that K does go to Liverpool um and yeah if he does I mean that's a really exciting sign for Liverpool in my opinion and but you were right there about the contracts uh that's it's going to be an interesting year for Liverpool to see how they do um I think for me the most important ones are Trent and Van DK um and Salah I mean Salah as well I think they three are the ones that I would really H try and get nailed down because they three are probably Liverpool's more most important players and and if they were to leave next summer then think Liverpool could be in a bit of trouble um so uh very interesting to see how that plays out during the year and then OB V comes over we'll talk about it on the podcast um so yeah we'll just move on now to the Scottish Premier League so we'll talk about the results from last weekend so h on Saturday the 24th of August the match is finished dund 8 to2 Johnston n hibs two dund D2 Rangers six Ross County n and then on Sunday 25th of August the results finished at m n Celtic 3 aine 2 kok nil and Marell 3 Hearts one so y p s match stood out to you the most well I think I think stand out one for everyone rang six Ross County now um I think Rangers themselves this season either the fans or the media or even anyone assort Scottish Football has said that Rangers performances haven't been great this season although results haven't been too bad in terms of domestically um they've only dropped two points um and that was open the day against Hearts so it's still Squad evolving but to score six goals um against Ross County I know Ross County when may be rock on down for going a 442 against Rangers at hamen which is a quite a wide pitch um at the best of times um but I think Rangers th deserved the result um scored some good goals D's got a couple um Tom LA's got a couple um so I think all of the skate skate go players from fans like Tom Lawrence Robie matondo s des they're like the three men that always takes some sort of flack when it doesn't go the way the result or the performance um but I think as you can see in the hit form at the right moment because obviously we're going to touch on it in every bit um but the big game this coming this week this upcoming weekend um it's the right time to score six goals to get yourself prepared um probably for the biggest game in the season season so far um but no I think Rangers looked really convincing they looked a lot a lot better in terms of their shape in terms of attacking and they just looked a lot more a well balanced side than they had in the previous couple of weeks um and I think in terms of Ross County I think it's going a long half season for them I think obviously last two seasons they've saved the relegation playoff with the skin te um but I think this year they've lost some key plays obviously from last season Simon in yand so I don't think they've got that quality that they they've not really replaced that quality so I think this season I think I'm going to them to go down I think I don't think they'll have enough quality to stay in the League this year and I think it a long half season for Don K yeah and my match St to me most was actually the abine 2 k now and firstly K's a really tough tough match so far win that 2 was impressive but the fact they've won every game this season so far in the league and so that's three wins out of three nine points they're scoring they're scoring quite a few goals as well during that time and you know we've talked previous on the podcast about abine especially at last season and the issues that they've had but um you know they just seem to be you know quietly under the radar at the moment H you know H one all their games so far nine points out of nine um you know topped it off the weekend there with impressive Victory and on top of that they announced last week that they signed Kevin NB on loan from murell so he's there rep placement obviously I think for be be boyanowski um and if you can get Kevin n scoring goals um because he's obviously got a good track record in in Scottish Premier League so if they get him scoring goals then I think Aline are going to be in for quite a good season um you know I think their style of play is different as well uh you know it's much more High pressing you know the balls on the ground a lot more H you know quite a lot of more passes so yeah I think for abadin I think under Jimmy T I just think I've just got a good feeling about them I think they're going to be in for a much better season um yeah so that match stood out to meet the weekend obviously you were mentioned there about Rangers when 60 quite an imp an impressive Victory um considering all the difficulties we've got at the moment the fact they away from I Brooks um and then obviously Celtic went in comfortably 3 out the weekend H another comfortable victory for them and then that sets up nicely for the game on Sunday we we'll talk about that next week on the podcast H obviously the result and we'll go into a lot more detail about it and but that's obviously the first derby of the season um you know it's always it's always a big one um so H yeah we'll talk about that next week on the podcast to see how that match ended so uh we'll talk about transfer news in Scotland so there's quite a few bits um to talk about so the big one was it was announced yesterday that Celtic Midfield and Matt hary has left to join Premier League club Brighton H so he leaves for a Scottish transfer fee Scottish transfer record fee um so it's 25 million plus add-ons which will take which takes it up to 30 million um so yeah M really leave s to go to Brighton what's your thoughts in nuse um I think it's a fantastic move for him um I did think he maybe go to a bigger Club but I think in terms of the sty of football and the platform play the Premier League and the way Brighton run we talked last week in the podcast Brighton are the probably one of the best run clubs in the Premier League um so I think he'll fit in there seamlessly and Brighton always develop and sell play on for a profit so I think again he could in my I think he will go on another level I think he'll go Beyond Brighton I think he will get to clubs I think maximum he'll be there 18 months to two years and I think he'll smash the pr League uh in terms of his performances his goals his assists um and under that new manager [Music] um um I think Brighton he fit in seamlessly um because I think they've got the balance have' got with experience and youth um and like you said they beat Manchester uned the weekend um so auction got off the bench as well was really really exciting so I think in terms of that but in terms of Celtic I think it's a massive loss they need to replace him um if you're getting 26 million up front rise into potential 30 31 million in add on um you're Los a massive player because you've seen the first two games of the season um o hatti McGregor which up that last season that wasn't seen enough for Celtic and until the very end of the season where they went on and comfortably secured the title um after a difficult kind of midseason but Celtic do look late in that area and I think they will strengthen um so I think in terms of it probably could have come out a worst time for Celtic fans considering um that the the Derby this weekend so not see mates um perform in the derby because the last couple of games at the back end the last season he scored a couple of goals and they were key in terms of getting positive results um but no I think in terms of the Scottish record for you I think is it's phenomenal and uh yeah in terms I think it's super B business from Celtic again say for one half million for R Dons and selling for that fee um two years later is um nothing short as Sensational but I think how he developed under an and Brandon Rogers um he took his game to level I think Premier League he was ready and I he seen in preseason he was performing really well and then the first two games of season superb in terms just his overall play and I think which a lot a lot of times you see players moving on for bigger clubs bigger and better things for Scottish Football wanting to get bigger wages bigger exposure to the world and just develop as a football player I think the way he's conduct himself in terms of not wanting to move not forcing it because there was five bids rejected from at um I think Brighton open talks and rather in bidden they kind of asked Celtic what the asking price was and they met the evaluation um and the fact is that he never kicked in first he just went about your business played and he was available for selection and I think that will hold him in high esteem because I think a lot of messages from Celtic fans on social media and what the radio phone and stuff that have all been in a positive mindset saying we wish them luck because the fact is he conduct himself in the right way and I think that's just speaks volumes of not him as a football but him as a person but no a massive move yeah I agree and you know H it's not surprising to be fair you know the way he's performed for Celtic the last two years has been really impressive the fact that I still can't go over the fact that Celtic sanum from in D for was it one and a half million and to sell them on for 30 million is it's incredible bit of business to really is and but yeah the way he's performed for the last few years you know um H you know he's he's come up with goals and assists you know um he's had a couple of man of the matches performances in the Champions League Most notably and you know so all these kind of things were were all were always going to result in the fact that clubs from kind of bigger leagues who have got much more money than Celtic were always going to try and come in and try and sign and so it's not surprising in that front that he has left but he is going to be a big loss for Celtic because he was one of most important players H in the team um you know and so it's for CTIC now to try and go and replace them to see who they can sign before the transfer window shs and H so yeah um from that really you know as you said there you know he's always been his professional as he can be throughout this whole transfer window because obviously there's been lots of interest in him as you said they're big rejected from Atlanta um but it is bright he's ended up going to I think it's actually a good move for them because Brighton are quite you know they're they're known for the really good style of play I think he would suit the way they'll play Under the new manager um and I think he'll have a really good successful time with Brion in the Premier League and then he might go on to do bigger and better things um so yeah that was the biggest bit of Transfer News obviously the transfer record's broken um 30 million um you know it's that's a lot of money for Celtic to to get um I think Celtic will be happier with that and yeah M really moves on to Brighton um so obviously the transfer window closes h on Friday and then next week H we'll talk more about all the confirmed deals from the Scottish Premier League H whereas that Celtic Rangers abine we we'll go across that um and we'll discuss we'll discuss it more next week on the so we move on now to H the Scotland national team so Scotland after the Euros are now back in Action next week uh the squad has been announced H for these matches coming up um so for the upcoming Nations league matches against Portugal and Poland Steve Clark's spy Squad so the goalkeepers are Xander Clark Angus gun and Robbie mccr The Defenders that have been picked are Grant Hanley Max Johnston Scott McKenna Ryan porus Anthony Ralston Andy Robertson John Suter and Greg Taylor the midfielders are Ryan Christie Ben dop James Forest Ryan gold Billy Gilmore John mcin Kenny McLean Scott Momin and L Morgan and lastly the strikers that have been picked are CH Adams Tommy Conway Lyon dikes and lawren shankland so Pierce um yeah Scotland scor been for next week a really interesting Squad here H I think I might know what your first name's going to be and the one that's caught your eye but I'll let you I'll let you go so what what' you think oh Robie M can on no it's um definitely R gold first call and first cap in 10 years um I think is really important because I think he's matured in that time and I think he's probably been deserving of been getting a call in the last couple of Seasons um he's been performing massively uh over in Canada in the MLS for Vancouver weight camps he's a captain and whenever I see Clips online or MLS matches he's always getting a goal or assist or he's involved in positive play and I think he's really matured as a player um cuz not too long ago back and loan to hibs in the and it didn't work out for him so maybe that maybe play a factor and maybe not getting called up but as you can see lose Morgan's getting the squad from playing in Ms performing well so U maybe that's been in part of Steve Clark's thinking but in terms of his performances at Club level he could he couldn't do any more to get to called up and I think with McGregor retiring from National dut I think they're looking for different solutions at Midfield and I I think he will certainly give you that and it's great to see H Lyon dkes back in the Scotland Squad um in terms of Fall's injury because I think we missed the massively at the euros and obviously young Max Johnson former mother fieldb um because we still not got Patterson or hickey available so um and obviously Ross MC never um got got any game time at Euro so so I think Max JNS is probably a better option in terms of actual natural fullback um and he's over in AUST at the moment playing well um so you know Scot AB Brad so terms of Scot quite exciting um some some surprise selections and some The Usual Suspects but I think all in all it it's um it's a pretty attacking minded It's good to see Jam forest in the squad H and Ryan do back Ben do sorry back in the squad so I think it's very attacking minded Scotland Squad and I think this got be exciting to watch yep so and my thoughts on the squad uh once again really interesting Squad um obviously the number one Stand Out is Ryan gold his first call up for the Scotland Squad in 10 years um you know I think all Scotland football fans know about his history H he bur on the SE D United um as a really really promising Talent um you know the last years or so he has kind of went off the radar he's played in different countries Portugal most not he's now in Canada at the moment with Vancouver white CS he's doing really well over there and and I think all the Scotland fans have been kind of calling for him to be in that Scotland Squad because he does produce something different H he's he's a kind of a player that Scotland is that kind of player that can take the ball and drive past players and make things happen H that is definitely I think a player for Scotland that they need and the fact that R gold has been called up I think is really good news and I'm really excited to see him in this SC Squad hopefully plays as well and I'm really excited to see him in this SC Squad and see what he comes up with obviously Max Johnson's been called up H he's obviously playing AUST at the moment I think that's partly to the fact that Scotland's right back situation is H pretty bad at the moment obviously our two first Char right backs and hickey and R are injured so ma Johnson's been given the call up so be really interesting to see him um H and then yeah the lakes of um obviously Tommy Conway's back in the squad um you know H most not there's no K Gordon in there so um maybe that's some maybe that kind of C the fact that I think Steve Clark has kind of moved on from Craig Gordon we don't know but in terms of this got this is probably the first time I don't know what you but this is probably the first time in quite a while that this seems to bit of a um you know a negativity you know I'll be honest this is probably the first time in a long time where I've not really where I'm not really looking forward to Scotland in international break you know I'm still not fully over it's obviously to the fact that I'm still not over the the Euro 2024 the the Euros there in the summer H you know it was just so disappointing the way it went um you know and I think that I sense that from a lot of Scotland fans that there's a lot of you know people have kind of the bubbles kind of burst a bit with the Scotland Squad um you know with the way the Euros went so hopefully you know the Scotland Squad can beuce again H you know in the Nations League you know two big matches against Poland and Portugal um so hopefully Scotland can get back on track and and kind of get the the fans kind of back on board again because I do feel at the moment there is a bit of a distance H and it's just du the fact the way Euros went in the summer so uh yeah so that's Scotland Squad announced we'll talk about that next week um obviously in for the first match so yeah Scott Squad announced H so we'll move on to B news which was sad news that was announced yesterday that the former England manager s g n has passed away H so it was announced he announced back in January 2024 that he was diagnosed with I think it was pancreatic cancer um and he said he had the best of a year to live um but sadly yesterday it was announced that he had died um so yeah what's your thoughts on on that pierce um I think it's sad um I think as we know grown up as Scottish football fans and watching the Premier League from far he managed the Premier League managed in Italy he had great success over Lao wi in the scarto and a couple Calas you won vers with that that Lao team that had some really top talent like Nesta Veron um then a lot of that team get brought up and get signed by a lot of top sides in Europe um they want manage England which is very first for he managed to do so um yeah so for so I think great sess a career great longevity manag leester for a period went over in China and so he's managed all over the world and I think whenever people speak about even now um it's with great fness because I think not only is a a manager a coach or just kind of a leader type figure I think he was someone that just kind of respected and had good values and I don't think anyone's really a bad word to say about and I think it was great and a fit and tribute that they he managed to get to manage his lifelong dream which is um a Liverpool charity match um and his honor for for for um his family cancer supporters um and obviously went all around the grounds back to former clubs and you get phenomenal reception and then um when the news broke yesterday that he did die I was shocked in take the back I thought maybe a bit longer to go um but as you know with cancer you can you never know it can happen any day um it's just such a horrible disease but in terms of what achieved his career um in football it can't be taken away from because I think he he he's he had success he went even with England and Italy and in the Premier League as well and championship and China he just had a phenomenal career longevity and um yeah start the same go it's another another football legend gone um but but um rest in peace sh go nson yeah H obviously copy all the words that you just said there is really sad to see obviously it was expected because we did know that he did announce that he had terminal cancer so um you know it was obviously going to happen and so but it is still sad to see and still sad to hear that has happened um you know from all the tributes that were LED yesterday from more all England players that saw the one thing that sued to me the most was how much of a good person he was that's what they kind of all came out with um the fact that you know he was you know a really good man manager H especially obviously he was most notably for me it was most notely known for that England team that he managed in2 World Cup 2006 World Cup H you know with all these big players that he played with and but nobody's ever said a bad word about him and you know H they've all seem to really respect him um so uh yeah so obviously really sad news to see he had a br career in management H you know Alexa Lao as well before England H you know he did really well there and then obiously as you said he's managed in China um managed a couple of national teams as well H so um yeah really sad really sad to hear that news um and then yeah obviously I think there'll be more tributes along the way over the the next H coming days and so so yeah it's been G sadly passed away um so for the final part of the show Pierce will now give his Asian football round up yeah so start off from some K League one action um so on Saturday 24th of August we had three matches and that was Ste one Deo FC 2 um S 2 G FC nil in United nil John mots one um and then three match on Sunday 25th of August and that was G sang FC 2 dejan H citizen 2 gufc nil wion HDFC 1 sfc 5 J United now um it's leaving the table look like this so at the top of table we have new leaders in oh so still gangan still top of the table um but as as you can see that 's now up in second position gimon was leading away for for a long time virtually since the first week and the last couple weeks have fallen away now they've went from first all way down to Fourth but it's still very tight at the top of the table because we've got Gan at first 50 points second last season's Champions and the previous season Champions before thatan HD FC on 48 points and then two s on 47 points and that's SOC in third position and game on 47 separated by just three goals um but as you see very top the table and the TT race as well and trly on in the K League one so in terms of bottom half the table it's just equally as tight um in now Rock Bottom um they Dro down and uh falling the result of the weekend losing to jum the motors which is a six pointer because were kind of cut a drift a little bit um but I've picked up results recently and they now moved from 12 all the way up to 10th and they've got a fighting chance to potentially stay in this division um and it's going to be really exciting because we've got in United 12th on 28 points de CI 11th 28 points sep adjusted two goals um and then jum Motors 10th person on 29 Points and then nth position just outside relegation places we've got D FC on 30 points as you see four S SE separated by just two points so it's really tight at both the bottom half and top half of K League one so in terms of J League one um Saturday 24th of August we had gambo Saka 2 a fora 2 K FC 3 FC Tokyo nil um sh b n n grus one diamonds one a diamonds and the C saki frontality match was um posponed due to bad weather conditions um so that'll be played at a later date um and according to Japanese football calendar so we'll have to find out and we'll keep updated when that match will be um rescheduled for so um y maros 4 CES Saka nil so Sunday the 25th of August we have Tokyo ver 2 Cas One S 2 cas nil Albert Nagata nilia nil and J nil h consor two and Vis visel K to s n so leave the table like this very tight at the top half of the table uh we've got the S Zia still at this stage of season which is remarkable still leading away 54 points from 28 matches and S just be them on 52 points and then' three SES that are separated by just a one point um that's forel Kobe who occupi at third and final um top three position on 49 points and then cashio aners and gambo Saka both join fourth and fifth respectively on 48 points and both got A plus 10 goal difference um so it's extremely tight the top half of the table and it it it remains it remains that um last season's J2 Champions could potentially win back-to-back titles and and and it's only the the very first ever made in campaign in G1 and uh that would be a remarkable story if that was to come to fruition so at the bottom half of the table we have hular cons Soro cut a drift a little bit um 20 position on 22 points in 28 matches played uh Min 23 go defense we get S to just above them on 24 um also a minus 20 go Defence so it's not looking great for these two sides and dble and Shan and B J has 18th position on 28 points so they've got six points separate name and 20th position uh seoro um so they've got a little bit of cut of drift and then sha B just outside the legation place on 29 Points so it's very tight the bottom but as you can see I think s t and hortal will need a miracle to stay in the top fight next season so in terms to other Asian Football news um Emperor cup quarterfinals are set with um matches to be played on the 11th of September and that is sanet rosar versus gambo Saka and that's set for 6:30 kickoff um and 18th of September Kyoto s FC versus Jeff United of the J2 and that's set for a seven P kickoff and then two matches on the 25th of September and is yukama f maros versus rofa Yamaguchi of the J2 and it's set for 630 kickoff and slight lat kickoff time we've got Cashers versus Vel Kobe and set for 7 P.M kickoff that's the emperor cup quarterfinal ties um second times and yeah that's that's the fixures for that um and South Korea have announced the 26 man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asia third qualif R matches against Palestine and om man um so for goep got Kim Jong hun um songun and Joe hunu for Defenders they've um they've got Kuan kongan Kim yungan Lee Hanam H mongi um Kim Juan soong Wu Jung Yun Kim J Li Yong J Choy Wu Jun and then midfielders have got down as part young wo umj lej s Hangin bom sonin Lee kangin Jong Wong hangan Yang Muk Le dongyong Jung hun and for two followers we've got o hun and J manq so some noticeable um inclusions there so we got lehan bum um who play FC maand in in Denmark which is's very really played since he's moved from FC they've also got Cho Choy wuin and Wang monkey and Yan Muk who's obviously the young gang star 18 years of age exciting talent and he just signed for Tottenham this summer and he'll join up in January after his loan spell this to finish the season with gangan who are chasing that k k League one title they've all been called up for the national team for the very first time and Kim sunu recently returned from an ACL injury which R them out of the Asian Cup last year um has been left out of the squad as it's just a it's too early for him to return at the moment asn't just returned from injury so he'll probably be back in a later Squad um and S um Guang FC um former Guang FC player now of SW in the championship has received his first call for a team and for the first time in two years um and he'll be looking to add to that one cap that he's got H so a very exciting um South GE Squad and that's um your latest all your latest Asian footballers thank you pierce and thank you everyone for listening to this episode of the fotb Trier podcast this podcast will be available to listen to on the football Tri YouTube channel and also the FB Trier weite thanks for listening and see you soon byebye [Music]
