OOTP25: BASEBALL'S GREATEST TEAM - 2019 NATIONALS VS 1997 MARLINS: Out of the Partk Baseball 25

hey guys M vill and welcome back to our bid defin baseballs the greatest team today we have the Second National League quarterfinal it is the 19 again the 2019 even Washington Nationals up against the 1997 Florida marins now it's a one-off game it's defaulted to modern era the winner of this will move on to the semi-final if you didn't see last episode uh chance to go back and watch it now before the spoiler the winner here will play the 2007 Colorado Rockies they just keep going don't they all right let's go and check these rosters and here they are with their stats from their particular season two teams that uh I remember the the plays in this team so this is uh I guess you know if you're sort of a generation up from me this is sort of I guess when you look back at the teams from the maybe 70s and 80s um yeah this is sort of uh 90s and early 2000s it's uh and obviously 2019 everybody remembers for the most part so yeah really really looking forward to this one no idea who's going to win let's go find out who's in the starting lineups and here they are here so it's Tina Turner leading things off at shortstop for for the for the Nationals it is Victor robbles at Centerfield batting second Howe Kendrick is batting third at first one sto cleans up in left field then we've got rendan batting five at third dosier batting six at second Yan Gomez catches at seven and Michael a Taylor is in right field batting eight with SW schatzer even ma Max Scher why can't I say that right now anyway you know who he is he's pitching he's very good uh and then for the Florida marlands Devon White lead things off in center field we've got edar Ria at Short Stop batting second Bobby Billa bats third at third MOA saloo in right left field even cleaned up Gary Sheffield in right field backs five Charlie Johnson is the catcher at six Craig Council yet again it's still in live in this series he's been in so many times hasn't he he bat seven at second base Jeff conine at first base bat eight and Kevin Brown is the pitcher for them pitching matchup looks very very tight and uh matchups here suggest the Nationals maybe just are the favorites for this but let's get this show on the road and yeah we've only got two more quarterfinals left and then you know we're into sort of the last eight in baseball the last four in each uh in each division each league I should say so we start with a three- pitch strikeout so Brown's happy with that Roes comes in now a one-w pitch and another strikeout in comes Kendrick another one-w pitch and not a strike out this time but a ground ball Ria over to the first base con at first base and that will do it for that in comes Devon white to lead things off against Sher it's a 3-1 and there's another ground ball to the short stop and Turner gets the play done at first for one away in will come Ria now first pitch swing Ria that'll be the first hit of the game as he drops it in front of the right fielder oh and it's gone through the right fielder he's playing tunnel ball out there and have a double well well well there you go in comes Bia now with a runner at second a one two pitch sh sits him down two out and it is Moises Aloo it's an 01 Aloo into right field that's going to drop in and that will open the scoring for the oh no it doesn't they hold him at third surely you've got to be going on that R is quick as well so Gary Sheffield comes in two out Runners at the corners Full Count and he's hit it in center field it is going to be caught is it no it drops in and Sheffield will drive in two and it'll be two nothing to the Florida marins and Sheffield early in his career of course is isn't it how old is he here he is uh 28 so it's not actually that early in his career first pitch to the next man up who I missed who it was and he is caught in left field Soo is the man that caught it m who is at the plate though uh it would have been Johnson the catcher so wano will now lead things off it's a onew pitch got a cat hair in my nose again God damn it so sto pops it up and it's four up four down so far for brown and renan will come in now a one-w pitch and renan grounds it to the short stop for 28 I'm just trying to work out if that error would have made a difference to them scoring a run but probably not cuz they scored two anyway didn't they and there's another strike out so Kevin Brown absolutely flying through his first two inning of work and Craig Council will lead things off now for the marins a one two pitch and that is down into right field it will be at least a single and uh Council will slide in and did he get there uh he rounds first he gos out throws I'm assuming he's safe yeah so a lead off double and it's Kine coming in now onew pitch conine strikes out it's weird to have a a first base batting number eight I would have thought Kevin Brown comes in now a 1-1 pitch Brown pops it up into right field that'll be caught and that will be Runner staying at second with two away for Devon white who is 0 for one today a 2-2 pitch can sha get himself out of this yes he can and we'll go to the third it is a two-run game and Yan Gomez will lead things off and NO2 pitch Gomez strikes out for 108 four strikeouts for Brown from what's that Stephan hit's face it's Taylor a one-w pitch you guessed it another strike out for brown and it brings up Max Sher can the pitcher get a hit show his rest of his lineup what to do no he doesn't even swing the bat Kevin Brown strikes out the side in the top of the third and Ria will go to the plate he is one for one today it's a 10 pitch R has got another one he lines it into left field and it's a leadoff single in comes Bobby benia who's over for one a one two Bena grounds it into a double play surely there's one there is two and that will clean the bases two away and in comes moisa Salo who's one for one a one-w pitch and a strike up so it's h been very much pitching on top since that bottom of the first Turner will lead things off 0 for one it's a 22 pitch and it is sent straight up and it'll be caught by somebody second baseman I think it was in the end that got to that no conine so that's one away in comes robbles who's over for I think they're all over for aren't they and that is line straight to the third baseman Bia makes the catch that is two away for Kendrick first pitch Kendrick that could be the first hit of the game for the NS and it is a two out single for Kendrick Koto cash in on that he is over for one of course Full Count Soo watches it half a swing draws a walk and suddenly tying run aboard and Rendon at the plate who is 0 for one an 01 pitch renan oh it's not going to get it done and that'll end the inning for the Nationals they strand two and it is two nothing to the marins in comes Gary Sheffield who is one for one with two RB it's a 2-2 pitch and he swings over one that is one away Johnson now who is 0 for one another onew pitch another strikeout how many strikeouts is in this game so far it's six for Sher and it's got to be at least seven for brown doesn't it it's a 2-2 pitch now on Craig Council Council strikes out seven strikeouts for Sherer six only six for brown well there you go sher's actually been in that sense the more dominant pitcher dosier comes in Full Count Strike out away this is ridiculous stuff isn't it Gomez now he's 0 for one it's an 01 pitch Gomez has got it over third base and that will be a one- out single for the catcher so Taylor 0 for one a 22 pitch Taylor oh straight up in the air just for a split second off the bat but that is two away and they are pinch hitting which is a big big call in the fifth so Cabrera is coming in that'll do it for sh up and he's grounded out that's a big call I don't know I would have made that call not with two out anyway it was different if he was at third maybe maybe at second but that's a very very big call Wanda Soro is the new man on the mound maybe his stamina meter was uh like I've pictures thrown I guess is what the technical terms uh maybe maybe that was getting up towards the end anyway but he' been pretty dominant there wasn't many sort of high counts unless there's been a lot of sort of balls getting fouled off maybe an 02 pitch on white that'll be a ground ball to end the bottom of the fifth so it's still two nothing obviously uh that guy didn't do too badly coming out of the bullpen but Turner with a 30 pitch can he lead it off with a walk he can all right is Brown coming towards the end here I wonder robz now who's over for two full count Rob has hit it well into left field and Turner will go for third we get to Third and with none out we have Runners at the corners go ahead run at the plate and it's Kendrick who is won 42 first pitch swing Kendrick oh it's a double play is it they're going to try and get him at the plate and they didn't get him did they well that is an interesting decision so run across the plate still no one out Runners at first and second for sto who's 0 for one first pitch sto gets it through and that may tie the game will they hold the runner at third oh they should have held the runner at third he's thrown out at the plate not the end of the world perhaps cuz there's Runners at second and third with just the one away renan to the plate a Full Count renan has got it through and that will tie the game it may even give the Nationals the lead and Sato comes around and scores and you got to go back they gave up that run anyway you've got to at least get the double play earlier don't you and that would just about be that dosier comes on it is 3-2 now to the Nationals he has a Full Count he has drawn a walk two on one out brown will face Gomez now who is 0 1 142 and you've got to say brown has surely played his part in this game and there's an error now by the third baseman to load the bases it is all going wrong for the marins in the top of the third Taylor comes in now he's 0 for two it's a 2-2 pitch Taylor oh you've just got to get it through the infield man and it'll be pinch hitting time again Adams Matt Adams will come in an 01 pitch Adams has got it through into left field and that will be two more runs across the plate and it'll now be 5 to2 and that will do it so J pal comes in now to face Turner who I'm pretty sure LED off this inning he's uh it's a 10 pitch and turn up grounds it to the second baseman to end the inning but five runs for the Nationals it's 5-2 now for Washington and the Marlins have work to do Daniel Hudson's on the mound renia who is two for two at the plate it's a 2-2 pitch and a strikeout for 108 in comes Bobby error of course which did lead to any runs I can't remember how early it was in the inning he's just dribbled that in front of the plate and that will be two away and it's moao who's W for two first pitch swing and that is going to get into center field for a two out single all right Gary Sheffield who is one for two it's a onew pitch Sheffield gets hit so tying run now comes to the plate in the shape of Charles Johnson who's 0 for two full count and he draws a walk to load the bases the go-ahead run is now on base and it's Craig council at the plate who's won for two first pitch Council Grounds it to the second baseman and that'll do it we'll go to the seventh it is still 52 as the Marlins leave them loaded in the bottom of the six robes to face pal robbles is one for three it's a one-w pitch robes strikes out one1 it is Kendrick who's won for three with an RBI as well it's a 2-2 pitch on him Kendrick up the middle but short stop has it that'll be two away and it is getting ready to stretch time one sto who is one for2 it's a 3oh pitch with two out and no one on and sto draws the two out walk rendan comes in he is one for three with two RBI and 01 pitch renan has hit it into center field but not good enough and that will now be time to stretch 52 the Nationals league all right welcome back it is Patrick Corbin the new man on the mound to face coine at the plate who is 0 for two and it's a 1 pitch the Marlins have work to do and conine has hidden into right field he will be caught and that's one away it'll bring up Kurt Abbott so they pinch hitting it's a one-w pitch Abott swings through strike three for 208 and Devon white 0 for three it's a new man in he is one H sorry it's a 1-1 pitch and Devon white grounds up to the third baseman play is made seventh inning is over and it's still a three-run game in favor of the Nationals Dennis Cook is the new man on the mound dos a at the plate he is 0 for two it's an 02 pitch and it is a strikeout to start off the top of the eth in comes Yan Gomez Who's W for three it's a one-w pitch Gomez looks at strike three that is 28 in comes Taylor Who's over three it is an 02 pitch and Taylor goes 0 for four an error in right field he's had a classic hasn't he all right co co Corbin even continues to Ria who is two for three in the bottom of the eight it's a 1 and rent Ria pops it up the Marlins really don't want to leave it all to do in the ninth do they Bobby Ben who's over for three with an error as well it's a 2-2 pitch oh he swung through it it's got away from the catcher nowhere near far enough and that is two away for Moises Aloo who is two for three a full count and Aloo was a big swing but he just dribbled it straight back to the pitcher and we will go to the N the Nationals are three outs away and they're three runs in front cook will continue to Adam Eaton who's pinch hitting it's a 2-2 pitch Eon oh that was high and fast and that is one away Rob nen is the new pitcher to face Trey turnup it's a 1 pitch and Turner hits it into center field fairly well it's over Center Fields off the wall on the full and Turner with one away has a double can the Nationals pad the lead here in comes robbles now he's one for four it's a 22 pick Robles that's into right field and that will pad the lead surely turn up turns goes is he going to get there yes he is Comfortably and it is now 6 to2 Kendrick at the plate robz on first then at the mound it's a 22 pitch and Kendrick has he just finished this one oh I think it's foul I think it's foul no it's gone it is gone that looked that that looked very much foul did it not that side of the did it not let go that side of the foul pole I'm confused which isn't difficult but anyway it's 8 to2 controversy and it's a two two pitch and it is a strike out of sto in comes renan he is one for four another 22 pitch and that should end it it's going to be a run bottom of the knth required for the Florida marins to keep themselves alive here and Fernando Rodney is the man on the mound Sheffield at the plate he's one for two it's a 1-1 pitch and Sheffield is going to start things off with a single into right field just looped over the second baseman didn't it Johnson now who's 0 for two it's a 3 0 he walks are they going to make hard work of this two one none out for Council who's won for three a 22 pitch Council no he's popped it up it'll be an infield fly and that will be one away Runners stay where they are it'll bring up Darren Dalton who's pinch hitting it's a 31 doton draws a walk loaded bases with one out I tell you what a grand slam now makes it interesting it's Jimmy einrich Eisen rck I'm not quite sure how you say that uh anyway he's at the plate 1-1 pitch Eisen Rick has got it into left center field it might clean the vases it's 84 at least the runner from first is going to hold so two runs across it's 84 one away Runners at second and third and the tying run is now on Deck sha dittle is the new man on the mound white is at the plate he is 0 for four it's a 2-1 pitch and he has got it into right center field that's going to be 8-6 the tying run is going to come to the plate and the Nationals are doing their very best Aussie villain team impersonation of trying to lose this one it couldn't happen could it surely not still only one away Ria is a new man he's two for four It's a Full Count Ria strikes out they're down to their final out and it is Bobby Bia he is 0 for four with an arrow as well it's an 01 pitch can Bobby Bia be the hero oh I don't know if he can oh it's a leaf being catch a tailor to win it and the Nationals squeak in in the end so the it is the Nationals in a thriller it was very much a thriller in the end they needed that top of the night didn't they uh so they go through to face the 2007 Rockies one of those teams will be in the uh National League final uh the other two teams uh that play in the quarterfinals will be determined shortly because we have the 2001 Diamond Backs up against the 1963 Dodgers and then we have the 86 Mets up against the 25 Pirates so that will round out the quarterfinals then and uh it's winding down
