Voicemails: Clay Holmes is a DISASTER

Opening Monologue ladies and gentlemen welcome to Yan St good morning ladies and gentlemen tough night for the Yankees and tough night for clay Holmes and I feel like I'm in that movie Groundhog Day right where the same thing keeps happening over and over and over again and no matter what you do you can't change it how many times do we have to watch Kay Holmes blow games before we take him out of these high leverage situ it's obvious that he's not a closer even when he was pitching well I want to bring this to you guys' attention even when he was pitching well early on in the season he wasn't pitching well he was getting lucky a lot of the contact that he was giving up was extremely hard he would give up foul balls that would go you know an inch from being a a a game timeing double or a Fly ball right to the warning track or somebody would scorch one right at an infield and I felt like he was just doing this impossible tight RPP walk that was not going to be sustainable and here we are and as we mentioned last night he's blown 11 saves if you take away even half of those the Yankees have a comfortable lead in not only the American League East but in the American League HomeField Advantage race which they've given up several years now in a row they've had opportunities last year they didn't but you know in previous previous years you know like 2022 they jumped out to that great start and then they flushed it down the toilet and became a big deal in the postseason so we're going to do the voicemails a little bit differently today um almost every voicemail that we got not all of them but pretty much every single voicemail that we got was about clay Holmes and so today is kind of a montage of all of the different voicemails back to back to back cuz I didn't want it to go like you know here's your take on Clay Holmes here's my take on Clay Holmes here's your take on Clay Holmes here's my take again on Clay Holmes so I wanted to let the fans have their say and so I put in every single voicemail that we got about clay Holmes that was playable we got a few that were a few too many F bombs there's still some f bombs in there so hide your kids hide your wife but just know that um I did my best to kind of give a fair representation of how you guys feel about this situation so there's going to be a nice long block of voicemails and then we'll have an ad and then I'll come back and talk about clay Holmes and the misery that we're all going through it's weird it's like I have PTSD you know I have this dog her name is pepper and we got her when she was about six months old and we're really good to Pepper we're really really good to her but anytime one of us is carrying like a big stick like I have a baseball bat that some I just carry around just to swing I have a big like a like a three foot long spring that I I exercise with and when I'm holding either one of those pepper runs away and hides even though I would never hit Pepper with that but I think when she was a baby somebody hit Pepper with a big stick so I feel the same way when I watch clay Holmes I just recoil in agony because I'm I'm waiting for the impending pain that's coming so I don't know I don't know how much longer we can take but I feel like uh I feel like this might have been the straw that broke the camel's back so let's get to your voicemails I live in in New York City I cannot believe you had the balls to do [Music] Clay Holmes Voicemails it cardiac clay Derek cardiac clay why does Aaron Boone continue to use this tool Jake cousins needs to be our closer uh I'm going to try to be optimistic about this mess maybe uh with the clay Holmes thing they can finally real realize that this is the last straw they can't do it with him they're going to have to go with the bullpen by committee but hopefully this is a wake up call yeah SE on here uh just watched the 11th loone save for uh Kay Holmes hopefully that's the new Yankee record and uh this is what a uh talented inconsistent team plays like if it's not the defense then it's the offense if it's not the offense then it's the bullpen but somebody blows it and uh it's homes no World Series this year this is the end horrible horrible game last night we need to send clay Holmes to like guantan Bay my recommendation is try Weaver is the closer for the rest of the season or when Gil or Schmidt come back make one of them the closer love your show keep up the great work looking forward to your football podcast I don't understand how clay home Fe the father I mean you walk two guys you give up a single I mean they didn't even put Cory Seager in and we still couldn't get it out I think we need to visit every single option in the bullpen to be a closer I mean Weaver has a better pitch I don't even hate moving a r down or even a Luis Hill when he gets back into the closer role there needs to be someone else besides Clin Holmes but that's just what I think I do happened again hes failed us again when that guy hit the Grand Slam I think that struck fear and loss of confidence in his heart there is just no way that's going to be hard to recover from Kay Holmes has proven time and time again he is not the clo lead of his team um I used to be a big clay home supporter and like you said he started off the season hot but he's just not that guy well nothing but another homes disaster Derek this is Robert what a joke what a [ __ ] joke that guy is a grand slam are you kidding me he didn't even get oh yeah he got the first out in the N then that's it it's so sad good morning Derek uh Joe from Jersey I always DVR my games I just can't stay up so I watch a second half in the morning and the second the second they brought homes in I watched it on times two speed cuz I just couldn't stomach it I mean this is just ridiculous and you know about stats why couldn't they leave Hill in there for the ninth inning I mean are we really going to run this guy out there in a World Series game I mean this is like turning into like a like a joke like a like a man a funny camera show or something Blown Away by all this clay Holm stuff man I mean I've never really been a big fan of him season long and I think it's probably one of the biggest indictments of cashman's tenure honestly and especially his job this season I think even in the early parts of the Season he was doing well it still felt like he was being shaky and like felt like he was getting lucky and I felt like it was pretty clear that he needed an actual closes and so the fact that we're kind of just stuck in this position right now it's just disappointing and I can't really say I have a lot of trust in this cting regime right now wanted to talk about Boone I think Aaron Boon has lost total control of this team and uh if he doesn't at least get to the World Series um I don't think the Yankees should bring him back this is his contract year and uh let him go manage the reds or go manage a different team because it's time for a change it's time for a change with Aaron Boon and Clay Holmes and everything and the def definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results and I think cashmir needs to retire as well so I'm sure you're getting a lot of voicemails today about uh you know Clay Holmes last night and the thing that worries me most about this situation is that it's already the first week of September had they addressed the closer situation maybe after the Williamsport game against the Tigers then there's a clear you know six weeks to kind of figure out who is going to fill in as a closer role we got to kind of Scramble now if Boon even makes uh a change and who is to say that he will do that what's up Derek this is Derek in Ohio wow another gem by Clay Holmes um you know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result uh what are we doing what are we doing I don't know if you follow basketball I'm a niick fan but uh Tom Fido when he gets fist off on the sidelines he puts his hands up in the air and he goes what the [ __ ] are we doing that's how I that's what I did all night what are we doing what the [ __ ] are we doing unbelievable you know Aaron Bo used to uh yell at umpires and what he would say all the time I think it was more or less last year but he us to say make the adjustment make the adjustment hey Boone Yankees organization make the adjustment hey Derek this is William from Florida at this point with claim Holmes all we could do his live I would like to talk about is there any good reason why the Yankees keep bringing him out to pitch I mean at this point the fan base is not only looking at Boon Cashman but ownership it's like is is there a good reason for him to be out there is it his contract why are they keep putting him to pitch I am on my hands and knees begging for cine to get fired into the sun we knew at the deadline we needed two things we needed Lefty relievers and we needed strikeouts in the pen instead of just getting you know what we'll get two good relievers and one Matt Blake project he gets two mat Blake projects one of which he DFAS after five [ __ ] games the problem when you go dumpster diving for laders like this is when your closer inevitably shits the bed like Clay is known to do you have nobody to replacing all right so there is a selection of the clay Holmes voicemails that I could play there were some in which it was wall to--all F bombs and I chose not to play those but I left in a selection because I I felt like don't even want clay Holmes on the team anymore forget removing him from the closing spot there was a time this season after he got done you know tight RPP walking his first 10 or 15 appearances whatever it was where he had a zero erra where things started to implode and we all said hey let's get him out of the closer roll he would benefit from being a seventh inning guy maybe maybe an eighth inning guy but more likely a seventh inning guy you know bridge the gap between the starting pitching and the high leverage guys but I don't even think you can do that anymore because it's obvious looking at him and I'm looking at a picture of him right now it just makes me angry it's obvious that his confidence is shot the Yankees ran this guy into the ground by putting him in a role that he's not built for if the entire league hit what they hit off of clay Holmes Sinker we wouldn't be talk talking about the lack of offense in Major League Baseball he was hitting like 350 off of it and that is OB obviously not what you want from the closing spot now usually he avoids the upper deck Grand Slam that he had last night but there's still too many walks too many hard- hit singles too many shots down the line too many gappers and the time has come to get him off the team because he is detrimental to the squad right now put him on the I if you have to we've got some guys coming back we got Luis heel we've got Clark Schmidt but we're a half game out and if it weren't for Klay Holmes we'd be about seven games up in the AL East we'd have the best record in Major League Baseball and to continue to run this guy out there and let him destroy our season it almost seems intentional it almost seems criminal and and I'm ashamed that the Yankees have Let It Go on this long I'm embarrassed to be a Yankee fan this morning and I'm sorry if this sounds overly dramatic because at the end of the day it is baseball it's a sport it's Leisure it's entertainment but it's also my life I've dedicated my life to covering every single Yankees game and to see them willingly ignore a problem and just hope it goes away is beyond frustrating and I know a lot of you guys are frustrated as you can tell by that wall of voicemails that we just had so I urge you all to just hang in there and hopefully we'll you know um after the early exit from the playoffs that we're certain to have hopefully we'll replace Aaron Boone hopefully we'll get a different closer I don't know if Brian Cashman will be back he's signed but Boone is not but hopefully better things are on the way this feels like the postmortem that we do every year when they l even though it's not even though we're still in it I felt like our season suffered a mortal wound last night even though we're at half game out mathematically we're in good shape I feel like we took a gut blow last night and now the inevitable bleedout begins I'll see you guys after the game NostraDerek [Music] tonight all right right today's
