As THAT FAMILY MOURNS, MASSACHUSETTS IS TAKING PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT OTHER PEOPLE. HERE IS WBZ'S MIKE SULLIVAN. >> Reporter: THIS IS HAMPSTEAD NEW HAMPSHIRE WHERE A 41-YEAR-OLD MAN PASSED AWAY FROM TRIPLE E. HE WAS HAPPY AND HEALTHY, NOW THEY ARE MOURNING HIS LOSS. IT HAPPENED SO FAST. STEVEN PERRY'S SISTER SAID HE DIED IN A WEEK. HAD HE SURVIVED HE LIKELY NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME. >> UP TO A THIRD OF PEOPLE DIE OF THE DISEASE AND THE PEOPLE WHO RECOVER HAVE LIFELONG DISABILITIES. >> Reporter: THE VIRUS CAUSES BRAIN INFLAMMATION THAT CAN LEAD TO SEVERE NEUROLOGICAL DAMAGE. >> THE RISK OF THESE MOSQUITO TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS IS STATEWIDE. WHILE WEST NILE ISING SIGNIFICANTLY LESS LETHAL THAN EEE IT IS MORE COMMON. YOU CAN PROTECT YOURSELF FROM IT THE SAME WAY. BY AVOIDING MOSQUITO BITES. HE SUMMER HAS NOT BEEN AS RAINY AS LAST YEAR, BUT WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF WATER. IT HAS BEEN A HOT SUMMER. I KNOW IT BACKED OFF THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. UNTIL RECENTLY, PLENTY OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY. I HAVEN'T HEARD A LOT OF PEOPLE COMPLAIING ABOUT THE MOSQUITOES BUT IT MAY JUST BE PART OF THE CYCLE.
