there's one at the bottom of the Zone La was lucky he didn't get called out the previous pitch does get called out on that pitch that's five strikeouts for you say one away in the fourth Gucci Kikuchi that's the nickname I'm in do you know what Gucci means it's a bag well it is a bag that's true Joe that is true uh like we're good yes we're good we're Gucci Urban dictionary.com defines Gucci as a slang is phrase used to mean good great awesome cool chill c another definition on Urban Dictionary says it's a versatile slang term based on the luxury fashion brand meaning okay good great awesome fresh originally used in the streets but now popularized by the masses it's sometimes abbreviated gu if you're an expert in its use gu Kiko no Gucci Kikuchi yes yes I don't think I've ever actually said gu so I guess I'm not I've not heard someone say you've certainly heard someone say gu and Joe you shouldn't no okay well I won't do it again but this is what the kids are saying they say Gucci these days Gucci Kikuchi and we're gonna call him Gucci Kikuchi henceforth so let it be written so let it be done it's going to be very interesting at the end of the year the question of whether or not Joe the Astros try to bring him back I would imagine it's at the very least on the table given all that they gave up to get him and it's not I guess as much about what those three players ceiling is as much as it's you gave up three players in a pretty empty farm system to get a guy for a couple of months that hopefully wins you a World Series I suppose they could perhaps try to sell Gucci Kikuchi on the fact that if he continues to pitch the way he has these three starts they are the reasons for helping him get back on track also it's a winning organization as opposed to the Blue Jay so there are ways that you could do it but would you do it based off of three starts alone yes yes yes already I don't I don't want to go two starts against the Rays one start against the Rangers He's 33 so I don't want to like I'm not I'm not giving this guy some massive contract that's not helping your case out but I am all about bringing him back already I know it's only about it it's been three starts they haven't pitched against anybody I know but they they need they have to address the starting POS starting pitcher position this offseason it is a major major need for this team due to injuries you're right you're not going to have ritti you're not going to have Javier Justin vero's contract is not going to vest and he's going to be 42 years old when he has free agency you cannot Bank on Lance mccullers's you're pretty sure you're gonna have Luis Garcia back that's five guys right there so going to the next season you have from baldes you have Hunter Brown you have Spencer arag Getti you have ronal Blanco and you have Luis Garcia under contract that you expect to be available on opening day right now as you're starting five I don't think you can Bank on that I don't think you can Bank on Blanco being what he was this year you haven't seen Luis Garcia pitch in a year and a half at that point I'm not saying saying this give this guy a fiveyear hundred million contract but sometimes the the W know is better than the dev don't and I would rather bring in a guy that and keep a guy that you're seeing have success with this pitching staff at a fair market value contract which if you look at like spot track says $ 13.5 million is his market value free agency right now then go chasing for Blake Snell or go chasing for nathany evaldi you know who are kind of like they're good pitchers but we know that kikuchi's worked better here so I think I'm in already three starts they haven't pitched against anybody I know I think I'm in why I'm in I I I need I need more I I get I get like what's on the horizon it's kind of what the it's kind of like the what what you were saying in the first segment where maybe we just should believe that when they acquire these guys that they fix them and they they write the wrongs that other franchises do so I just right now believe that if they want to keep us Kikuchi and trade for him that they can fix him I want to see what he does later this month when they go up against teams that are better than the Rays twice and the Rangers and on top of that then I want to see what he does the postseason because if he struggles in the postseason then I don't even really care what he does at the end of August that's a good point like he doesn't have postseason I don't know if he has any postseason experience honestly if he does he has very very little but if he goes out there and he's one of those guys that clearly can't handle the pressure it's obviously a totally different conversation like so it's it's way too early I guess to be 100% in but I heavily lean that way already 12 to13 million for Kikuchi when you're going to be giving Lance McCullers another 17.7 next year Christian Javier 10.4 before his salary jumps up to 21.4 million in 2026 and you got FR baldez on the last year of his contract arbitration this past season he got 12.1 the way that he's pitching now I'm assuming that he's going to make a lot I don't know I I mean if I'm looking at fromer Valdez and UCA Kikuchi and where I can allocate my resources if I got a pick I'm picking framber I don't know that they're gonna pick both I would be in fact very skeptical that they'd pick both I'm sure there's a part of them right now too that's looking at what Blake Snell's been doing of late and thinking to themselves maybe we should have just been patient with Blake Snell because Snell has been awesome of late so I'm not willing to do it yet this is something I'm willing to revisit again but he's got a pitch against teams that are actually good yeah and and the xfactor here is obviously is Jim Crane I mean it's what if if they do sign Alex bregman to a long-term contract you know I mean doesn't that affect your ability to do that does this affect your ability to do that with Kyle Tucker and from braal do too and I guess fber is a third of the contracts that we would probably like to see the Astros give extensions to yeah it that's where it's it's hard to tell what Jim Crane like what his next like what's next for him like are they going to continue to operate in the way they have which is not really address a lot of needs in free agency but try to sign one big name that kind of covers that Josh hater this year the year before it was Jose obviously they kept Montero but like like what is Jim Crane's philosophy we don't we don't know and and we just we have to wait and see you know if Alex bregman walks in free agency you know that's $30 million off your books that you're I guess replacing him with like a a minor leager I I would guess or a very cheap free agent that gives you more wiggle room so that's really the question is that we don't have the answers to is just how far above a luxury tax would Jim Crane allow himself to go and is would they view US Kikuchi as a player that you know they're okay with getting extra taxed on and if he has a really good finish to this month and has a really good playoffs I'm I'm sure that's something that they will reconsider all I'm seeing is now I'm I'm being patient and it's been great to see to this point it's been surprising to see that he's been this successful to this point over three starts two wins sub three erra considering he had like a 4.75 ER when they brought him in but I I think we got to be think we got to be patient on that front yeah I wouldn't given him the contract today but I don't know you sounded like you were gonna give a 10 I think you got to make sure he gets through the season healthy first but that's pretty that's a pretty big thing to have happen I I just he's pitched really well I'm I'm very impressed and at this point like I I have no reason to doubt the pitching staff of the Houston Astros you know what they've done since you know 2015 you know you know even with um the pitching coaching changes that they've had it's it's just they've they fix everyone that walks through the door so maybe I guess to counter my own argument here Paul is that no don't don't no no just the just I think it's fair to point out the other side the the counter to that would be why would you pay someone when they show they can just fix anyone like that that's that's arrogance so that's that's where that's where you find yourself having a rotation that is getting shelled yeah that's it's that's probably too arrogant for them to view that yeah they can't fix everybody and I think it is a little simplistic to think that like they're the entire reason for Kikuchi doing what he's done but he does they do deserve credit for taking the flyer on him and he deserves credit for delivering to this point from the 409 it's Caleb I'm totally un Bo with signing Kikuchi I think he will be reasonably cheap and he would already be acclimated to our team we shall see
