shie roster expansion is upon us but it's not quite as big of a deal as it used to be because the rosters aren't as large as they used to be managers have to be a lot more selective I think this really balances things out especially for that team that's trying to get into October baseball first pitch coming your way next just about ready to go and on the hill the big righty Jake junis what's the scouting report on him well he's putting together a really nice season on the mound ER in the low threes very respectable when you consider guys are looking to do damage they're not trying to just walk and hit singles they're trying to hit homers and draw walks and score runs so when you have a guy that can limit the other team from scoring more than a few runs that's really tough to beat game in and game out bounc to the left side and foul ball the two two got swinging one out oh there's a small side of relief right there I mean just to keep that speed off the base pass it's not just the pitcher it's other guys that have to think about it from your infielders have to think about that Runner potentially stealing but also be in position to make a play as an outfielder you're thinking about a base hit to the Outfield I got to get to it quickly to try to keep this guy from taking an extra base so I think everyone just a little more relaxed that he didn't reach [Applause] base one down base is empty they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and Away swing and a miss snuck the fast ball by him well anytime you can punch out the top two guys in a lineup to start an inning got to be feeling pretty good out there on the mound because when you think of just having a distraction table Setters on the base paths and all of a sudden you're dealing with the number three hitter you distraction can cause you to serve up a cookie and instead of it being a solo shot it's a two or three run Homer two outs Bas is empty and a swinging a Miss there well as a hitter you're hoping that the command on that Sinker doesn't come until later in the ball game but if that's how it's going to be all day it's going to be a tough one for the offense knocks that one away and we'll do it [Applause] again got it strikes out the side to begin the game what a start impeccable command in that one three batters first three strikeouts that's electric stuff out there on the mound back here in Cincinnati and towing the slab in this one Aaron savali oh you can see his whip is a little above the leag average not bad but I think in this one he's going to need to control that a little bit better try to limit Hitters from getting on base stay in that wind up instead of the stretch and when he does allow base runners be able to throw a pitch he's going to get a swing and Miss get out of the inning so that a base hit doesn't do more damage and put his team behind the eightball righty to the plate live Drive BAS H so a man on base to start the inning I'm sure he feels really good about that one of hear the phrase short to it long through it and that's a great example of it right there got the Barrel in The Hitting Zone early squared it up with the well time swing and came away with a beautiful Line Drive in center field Ellie De La Cruz the next to hit for the Reds foul ball there rder at first with with no outs here that one almost got [Applause] him swings through it and that's a strike out and Chris that's a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off Bas and the defense breeds a because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play but that's how you do it keep him off balance get him out of there and deal with the next guy Tyler Stevenson now at the plate the pitch two ball two [Applause] strik India the runner at first with one gone to the inning got him swinging all interesting he's looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the lead off single backto back strike out so they haven't been able to move that runner up get him in scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring I tell you good job so far on the mound he just needs one more out and now TJ [Applause] frel comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt Sanchez down to First with it that completes the strikeout and that'll do it we move to the second here in Cincinnati no [Applause] score back here at Great American Ballpark here's a big Power thread Reese Hoskins he is very much your typical power hitter I'd say he falls into the three true outcomes category well we've seen more and more of that lately the ability to drive the ball to slug is getting heavily favored over any discipline or strikeout concerns and down on strikes looks like he's picked up right where he left off oh big Power guy right there and generating so much bat speed it's hard to bring that to a halt once you committed try to the swing just couldn't do it Willi Damas stands in breaking ball through there for a [Applause] strike got it by him for the K well right now he's in cruise control autopilot just dominating these hitters he doesn't look like it's a fun at that and all of a sudden you become in awe of this guy in the mound somebody's got to break this thing up that's five straight strikeouts got to put a ball in play the wind to kick the pitch foul ball still a one and two count no score here in the [Applause] second that's down and in a slider missed good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with you're better off taking that pitch and a swing to miss down on strikes and it's a one two three inning nobody left for Milwaukee we'll go to the bottom of the second no score bottom half of inning number two and ready to hit now for Cincinnati Spencer steer Ste [Applause] that one finds the corner and it's one and [Applause] two gets a piece and stays alive swings and misses it's a strike out couldn't catch up to the heater well he's really dialed in and this offense is going to have to do something to try to break that Rhythm maybe it's square around the step out of the box agitate him a little bit do something that just changes what's happening right now because at this pace it's going to be a long game inning alive that's a ball that a lot of times you'll see the short stop or left field be able to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough but right there it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff but base hit next for Cincinnati Santiago espol two gone but the goahead run is it first bottom half of inning number two check swing he went too far and it's a strike one two swing and a miss struck him out couldn't hit the fast ball at the knees so one left for Cincinnati we'll move to the third with no score well here we go top of the third scoreless game here's the catcher Gary sanchezz and a pitch and a big swing and a miss good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it he Dives but he can't make the catch the throw is still in time he keeps his composure and they get the out the third of you got to be kidding me did you see that throw not really boo I mean it happened in the blink of an eye it seemed but thankfully stat cast is here to help us out you don't see many throws across the infield that get up into the 90s so he really reached back for that one and he had to to get the out now the third baseman Joseph Ortiz one down Bas is empty just off the Inside Edge the wi to the pitch now's one off two and two the pitch that's [Applause] inside outside and that is ball four well he earned his trip to first right there it's not easy laying off pitches that just missed the Zone like that and it's a real discipline as well he's put a lot of work into that aspect of his game and paid off right there and now it's going to be Blake Perkins Ortiz over at first with one [Music] away here's the pitch Runner goes that's in for a strike throw save you know what I like the aggressiveness right there it looks like it's going to be tough to score in this one really good pitching so far so why not try to put some pressure on him and see if you can steal the bag this kid picked up in a trade a lot was offered and given to get him but he's got a real high ceiling and that's in the dirt well these Brewers do a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient bats out of him he's only given up one run but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense a middle away let it break and take over that outside corner of the plate but sometimes with a cutter you just don't know how much it'll move I think he's good but I think he was also a little lucky right there and now the center fielder TJ fredel 1-1 now and a foul ball and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep during spring training as he was coming up trying to get to the big leagues and this kid's got some ridiculous pop watched him on the back field taking batting practice all of his coaches would just kind of roll their eyes and say this kid's going to be great without actually saying the words then later that season I got a chance to chat with Wilson big brother and ask him about little brother and he smiled as well said yeah he's good and gave me that look that I think he might be better than me eventually ground ball left side off balance feet there's one on Smith two the 543 double plays a gym in baseball and how can you not appreciate the skill and practice it takes to make this Look So Easy great work by the end here and it's reys Hoskins up to the dish two outs Hoskins pushes it middle and the other way sometimes when you step in the Box during the game you get a little anxious and you get away from that but so far I've seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation Ellie De La Cruz will hit next and the count one and two the two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right here the onew swing and a pop off in at the same time there's a reason they're put in these situations now it's the Reds D Ty France the desicated go looking to get the tying run on base and a count one and [Applause] two righty delivers ball activity in the bullpen for the Brewers Joe Ross getting loose out there pay getting loose as well [Applause] Line Drive face hit and the tying run is on with a lead off single well that was an important at bat in this game so great job there stepping up to the challenge show the willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive basee hit no outs runner at first Dom Smith stands in ball to strike the pitch drops a bunt down the first base side out of this inning at the belt and fires got him looking for the K that big strike out right there and maybe a little controversial with the call I think he got a little bit favor on the mound no question about it it's not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that and I'm sure there's some shping going on from The Dugout making it clear that wasn't his best call behind the plate today so up next Jonathan India look out and it hit him well there's no hiding in this spot base is loaded now and no more room for any more mistakes like that two out Bas is full Ellie De La Cruz the next to hit for the Reds it's been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate it's like everyone else is in slow motion and he's in full [Applause] speed to two in the air fairly deep to right field and that will end the inning so three left for Cincinnati and it remains one [Applause] nothing welcome back in a new arm of the mound to start the eight Buck farmer and compared to a lot of other relever strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year so the defense should be active digging in is the switch that pitch and it's way to miss this is one of those situations defensively where you can't try to do to much you got to make sure that you f the ball cleanly and get one out first it's going to be here's the DH William contras he is talented player his big brother Wilson has voiced that his little brother may end up being better than he is swing in the Miss if he's going to steal second you want him to go early in the count that way he's not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch and he deals fouls it off still one deep way back there and it's gone we are ti a massive home run and they tie it up it's one1 the brighter the lights the more he shines yeah this guy lives for big moments and right there made a 116 mph and the best we usually see in a season is somewhere in the high teens and every couple of years somebody breaks 120 off the bat but that's extremely rare now the batter now Spencer steer the in this ball Fernando Cruz gets handed the rock out of the pen well he's been excellent against left this year and that's his first test this looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the [Applause] matchup Garrett Mitchell up now for the Brewers now this guy guy a player that if he gets on base has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base paths this to center field makes the grab on the run and that'll do it so they make short work of him there bottom part of the order 789 two up in inning number nine all tied 1-1 so they're making a move for a bat Off the Bench Ahmed Rari well with his speed he could really make some things happen leading [Applause] off inside just [Applause] missed wi to The Pitch Out to short lays out oh it's off his glove he doesn't have a throw and so they end up with some speed on it first one of the hardest things to do in the game to stay mentally and physically ready for the big opportunity and he came through for his club right there next to hit Santiago espol buting but that's a foul ball if you're base runner you got to stay dialed in here look for anything in the dirt try your best to get in the scoring position he fouls it off will do it again this might be a steel situation but that's not your average catcher behind the dish you have to be careful here struck him out of the front door breaking ball well he's going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one was his third strike out and this one looking obviously so he's been a little overmatched he's got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate in now for the Reds will Benson [Applause] on the inside corner for a [Applause] strike on the ground out to sh and that one finds its way through ball back back in
