Miami vs. Florida Review | PFF Grade Release Show

go over quickly to the next game that we're going to talk about which is number 19 Miami uh against Florida Miami destroyed Florida in this game 41 to 17 was the final score go over the grades quickly for both sides Miami offensively it was the cam Ward show guys the cam Ward was freaking awesome in this game 90.9 grade he finished with Elijah ooyo the tight end 80.8 Xavier Restrepo a 73.4 Isaiah Horton another receiver at 70.6 and the new running back for Miami Dam Martinez checking in from Oregon State at a 68.3 Miami's defense also performed pretty well in this game as well Michelle Powell the corner at 89.5 great game for him Edge rusher Elijah aluson transferring in from Marshall at a 78.2 Francisco maoa the linebacker at a 75.7 Wesley binth uh the linebacker at a 74.6 and Tyler Baron the new Edge checking in at a 73.6 uh let's go over to Florida's offense uh in this game the top offensive play player for them was Austin Barber the uh tackle at a 73.1 Montreal Johnson Jr at a 70.9 Elijah Badger the wide receiver at a 69.2 jake Slaughter at a 68.7 the center that we are big fans of and then Eugene Wilson the third another guy we love uh the wide receiver at a 67.8 and then finally rounding it out with the Florida defense in this game uh linebacker Grayson Howard at an 80.2 Desmond Watson maybe the everyone's favorite player in college football like the 440lb D tackle at a 7 3.1 so great game for him Joey slackman the new D tackle that got as well at 70.7 RJ Molton at a 66.3 and the corner Sharie Denson at a 64 in this game so da for you in this bludgeoning that Miami did against Florida what was for you the stat that really told the story in this game uh we're we're going to get in cam ward in a minute because everyone's talking about cam Ward let me start with the gator so uh a 56 a 50.6 team coverage grade in this game and I told you coming in look last year the secondary was just not good enough they they were the second lowest coverage grade uh coverage graded team in the SEC last year ahead of Vanderbilt um much like the Clemson offense I saw the same things out of this Gator secondary that I did all of last year there's just they're talented they have guys they have guys like Jordan Castell and Jason Marshall and guys like that right it's another thing they just there's too many mistakes like and I know cam Ward was spectacular don't get me wrong he great throws he was great for most of the day outside of the interception like he was but just too many mental errors and too many just blown coverages and guys just running running free like you you won't beat a team like this with weapons like this and you won't get through an SEC schedule if you're secondary plays like this because it's just and they're more talented it's frustrating to watch because we hear about these I know it's frustrating watch they're they're more talented we were in we were in your apartment you're watching and you were cursing up a storm watching the tap it's it's just it it bothers me when you have talented teams again like Clemson's offense and Florida's defense that just don't execute and and they just they there's just too many times where it's like man why is this guy 10 yards open and and it's the same again it if it was just okay there were a good D last year and Miami went out there and beat him and it was like okay they made mistakes today all right they made mistakes today he lost a game the team's Miami's better it's the same things saw all of last year yeah it's the same things and I and I don't know what the fix is I I mean there's just too many too many errors too many self-inflicted wounds on defense that you cannot recover from in big games like this I don't care if you're at home I don't and then you have it stacked on top of the fact and you're about to get into this where usually last year what happens is okay their defense is making these errors but at least the offense is playing well and at least like gr Merz isn't going to lose it a game and turn the ball over but now we saw in a game like this like what happens what does it look like now if their offense doesn't have a good day right Florida kind of leans as an offensive team nowadays right but what happens and I know you're about to you're about to get into that side but this Florida secondary if they're going to have any chance to get through the schedule they have to be better they straight up have to be better I remember watching we were watching it yesterday and there was a couple plays you're like I don't even know what covers they're running it's it's it's like that there's it's pre- snap it's post Snap there's certain things they're trying to do there was there was a couple plays it was like that I was like I don't know what they're in yeah yeah I don't I I don't know at least I can at least sometimes I can go okay you're in this coverage and it was a good offensive play call and there was this plays I don't even know what they're in they're just like freelancing it look like out there was just like all right it's just you just can't have guys back there with you can't in your secondary especially man if a d tackle makes a mental error it might burn you for six or seven yards or you might just not get it past the secondary is back breaking if you have if you have issues in like deep thirds and at safety and things like that you're going to get burned you're going to have bombs thr on you like you did yesterday yeah it absolutely will I just watching that tape yesterday at 2:00 in the morning was hilarious cuz we were already delirious and we were like what are we watching we're on our 15th hour of college football and I'm like Max come here check just watch this again we were going from Florida messing up to watching Teto McMillan score another touchdown back to Florida back to McMillan it was just it was a lot of fun last night but uh my side that told the story was you just mentioned it man grah Merz who last year was amazing at not putting the ball in harms away he had six turnover Worthy plays all of last season he had three yesterday he had already half of his season total in just yesterday's game man 36.8 passing grade as well that's the lowest he's had in a game since 2021 when he was at Wisconsin so over the last three years man so uh it's it was a rough showing for GR merch in that game and you saw those grades in the Miami secondary the Miami secondary I thought was like a good enough unit but not like a star studded unit maybe it is man because the way they played in that game and really shut down grah mer in this offense so um I we'll talk about we can talk about this a little bit if you want but I I say see what happens but for Billy Napier who is extremely maybe he's probably on the hottest seat in the country right now you got the number one quarterback at coming out of high school as a true freshman in DJ lagways are backup quarterback at what point do you say hey put the kid in and maybe I can use that to salvage my job and say Hey you know like we can head into next year with promise of something better I don't know it it's going to be weird man I mean the old line didn't play great either but I just at at what point do you say hey let's just see what the kids got I I think I don't think he do it yet I I think he got another four or five games before we start talking about about that because Merz has shown you in the past that he doesn't have many games like this right he he was much better he didn't have a game like this you mentioned it the last three years so I I think you give Merz a shot to bounce back right you got sford this week A&M the week after that which is a big game but at least again it's home um you let Merz try to bounce back and you try to get this offense rolling you can't make these changes after one game the other part is you you've got a Miami defense that was just they were on it they were on it yesterday we we talked about first I'm going to get to my most impressive guy in a second in this rant but we're going to get to the Miami defensive line that's a unit y that's an absolute unit we we were hyping it up all offseason there's so much talent even Ruben Bane went out the first drive with with an injury and then I think came back later in the game but Tyler Baron monster Elijah all had a great game Elijah Alon from Marshall had a great game Simeon Barrow had a really nice game mesidor is working back into the groove this defensive line is crazy and we finally we saw the proof of it that's that's a good Florida offensive line like you just mentioned that they just after a while and especially with a guy like Graham MZ who doesn't have a whole lot of improv in his game if you have a pocket quarterback against Miami you better get rid of the football I I saw someone try to come at me a little bit yesterday by tweeting out oh oh PFF said they're top 10 line Florida did yeah I did say that and maybe it is wrong right but at the same time I ranked Miami as the number three D line in the country like yeah this this happen I'm serious when I say it Miami there's an argument it's number one with they they have a boatload of Talent on the dline but the one thing you know that's going to be obvious every week we're going to talk about Miami's defensive line every time we talk about it I I want to talk about the back end and and a guy two guys I'm going to go with two guys actually I'm GNA go with one start with me Powell who was Miami's highest graded defensive player it showed him as a corner in that graphic we need to get a switch he's actually safety now he's playing safety I think he played a lot in the slot at Washington but um 89.4 overall grade 89 coverage grade safety was the one position looking at Miami's defense I was worried about they lost Cam kinchin and James Williams to the draft you've got Meese Powell and Jaden Harris Jaden Harris had a 68 coverage grade yesterday both had an interception Harris almost had a second one he dropped the second one cut off an in route and dropped a second one these two guys had two and almost three interceptions Powell added a pressure as a Blitzer uh Harris added a pressure as a Blitzer also if they're set at safety their linebackers played well I was worried a little bit about the middle of Miami's defense if these two guys on the back end play like this this Miami defense is now you're on a level that we start talking about getting into that that same level we start talking about maybe with the Penn States and those teams in the top 10 of the world miam's got a boatload of Talent on the D line but if they if they actually went and filled it in at safety especially with Powell oh boy this the ACC is going to have a rough time scoring points on Miami rough time scoring points man and they're a rough time defending Miami as well because cam Ward was awesome yesterday listen Heisman talk before October is stupid and we'll we'll wait until October to do it but if you're giving out the Heisman right now it's going to cam ward in my opinion honestly yeah I would say so yeah I'm in on that after after one week there some other good ones Shu obviously had a great game we'll talk about in a little bit Yeah J had a great game but like in terms of this magnitude of a game and just come out and it just yeah I'm the guy like that's who it was man 90.3 passing grade and Dawn I mean we have to look back with the uh grade got for that play but was that a negative one and a half that he got in the interception probably right uh minus one or one and a half it wasn't good and and I'll tell you the first thing there's two things for me with Ward we'll get back to the other the first thing with Ward that's the exact type of interception I was worried about is it's that it's that right there it's we're improvising we're trying to do too much when I probably could have body I probably could have just ran out of bounds and got six yards okay somebody must have said something to him on the sideline because I I I came into this game feeling like if Florida was going to win they had to win the turnover battle right and to start your your game with now defense made a stop only gave up a field goal deep in your own territory great stuff helps have a defense bail out but somebody said something to cam Ward on the sideline hey man if you just don't do that exact thing right there what kill this team yeah and and for him to I think for him to persevere and we saw on other plays later in the game where it was okay run the ball or find somebody find Restrepo find brown right find these guys like the touchdown rolling to his left that play I was so nervous I was like oh is he going to do it again don't do it again please and he finds um was it was it um just I think it was Sam Brown was it Sam Brown did he I forget which one it was I the numbers thing again SC College numbers I got to get there um but even he improved it it was actually it was Jacobi George oh right when he when he bailed out to his left and he makes just a fat maybe the throw of the week to Jacobi George in the back of the end zone I was so nervous watching that play and he found him and I was like oh boy remember the moment now I'm saying it's on this level calm down people remember the moment we had with CJ strad we were like oh he can make he can he can do things on the move not that cam couldn't do things on the move but the problem is and I showed it last Tuesday was like when he gets on the move he starts doing all that it's like I don't know I'm nervous I'm a little nervous with the St Georgia game yeah yeah the stoud Georgia game I was like when he made that throw I was like oh he's going to do that the other thing to me we talk about Brady cook and Luther Burton we talk about faf and McMillan we talk about shador and Hunter Ward and Restrepo yeah the chemistry is there already Yep this is going to get in if they look like they did yesterday every week it's going to get in that category Xavier Restrepo I told you on Tuesday I thought he was going to be the best player on the field and cam was the best player on the field I get that Restrepo is it this is this is like next year you're talking about probably a day two guy you're talking about arguably the best slot receiver just pure slot receiver in the country the football IQ the route running The Savvy the hands everything Xavier Restrepo is a a great football player not a good one a great one and dude the fit of him with Cam Ward is so amazing like I almost think like yes I obviously ber McMillan would be amazing Miami's offense too but like he fits that offense better than almost any other receiver in the country because like one of his best attributes when I was watching was tap BL year he comes back and finds the football whenever van dijk was scr scrambling which he rarely did but whenever he did rre was like oh I got to come back and make a play for him and that's the thing with Cam W is like when he does scramble he some of his times his receivers just kept running the routes and it's like no now rreo comes back to him he like hey I'm open don't make a boneheaded play throw to me I'm open and he did it yesterday and he's like dude if they do that and if camard is scrambling and doing that they're Unstoppable man camard yesterday 90.3 passing grade 385 passing yards three touchdowns four big time throws and a turnover worthy play and the fact he had a 90.3 passing grade D with a hor horrible horrible interception like that just shows how Elite his ceiling is man and listen he look like a legit Heisman candidate and an NFL prospect too man and if he keeps playing like that and the Miami defense keeps playing like that they're going to steamroll the AF ACC man honestly like it looked was really impressive yeah I get it was Florida and yeah we'll see what they do in future weeks but dude cam Ward was was on fire yesterday I thought he was the most impressive player uh in the country yeah yeah and and look Restrepo too I want to I want to go back one more time on this too because not just out of rhythm in Rhythm stuff too and there's just little things and they seem like simple things like like when Restrepo you know there's a play where he's out to out to Ward's left by himself and he and he's got the corner and the corner blitzes and he just he just goes hot to the six-yard curl and Ward knows okay yep seven right or there's another one where we had Restrepo matched up on a safety on acea Turner right and and he got he's got the slant on a safety and he's like just get it to him right there's even stuff in Rhythm and and hot reads and things like that that rest first of all the football IQ it's Way Beyond his ears Restrepo he's got the mind of an NFL receiver he he's going to make it because he's just mentally so far ahead even though he doesn't have like the best traits in the world Warden Restrepo we're going to very soon I think we're going to put him on that list with again buron cook faf McMillan that those Elite pairs those two guys are really dangerous together yeah they absolutely are I'm trying to find exactly who because da uh shador Sanders cam Ward and Kiren drones were all working out together with the same quarterback coach uh this summer summer and I want to find the exact coach cuz I want to shout him out right now but um I think well-off media was the one that was posting the videos all three of them dude they looked awesome drones had some nice plays in that VY game that I know I know there were some rough ones but Shor will get into in a little bit he looked awesome and cam word looked awesome too so shout out to that uh quarterback coach and shout out to playing for bardies playing for birdies excuse me in our chat who uh shouted
