just having a hard time squaring up anything doing any type of damage the only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run but outside of that it's going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today ready to go and now Parker Meadows trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues leftand hitter Waits and a foul [Applause] ball and a pitch and a foul ball he stays alive and the right-hander deals in the air to left Center and there's one down and now the Tigers lineup for manager AJ hinch someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs Matt verling and boo he's their team leader in home runs so you know the pitchers on that other side man they take a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting you know he's got a lot of pop and it's real pop it's not fluky at all he can absolutely change the Outlook of a game very quickly so watch out when he steps in Riley green batting with one down takes a [Music] strike he's dealing with a great two- strike hitter right here the strikeout is not automatic fights it off you'll see another one out base is empty foul ball still o and two swing and a ball hammered left field Peralta going back to the warning track makes the catch two outs Bas is empty next is the designated hitter Matt verling looking for his first big league hit right here fast ball in for a strike and it's own one two out Bas is empty next pitch misses way outside two outs and another ball the guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand didn't stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception he knew right away it was an off speed pitch that one in the dirt and that's ball three out towards right center field it falls in and that's a hit the throw into second and he's out cut down and that ends the inning no score as we head to the bottom of the [Applause] first back here at Petco Park and our pitcher tonight Brennan hany what should we keep an eye on here well he's been a real quality starter for his club and coming into this one what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year it seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone so we'll see how right-handers do against him in this one we go to the bottom of the first now it's the DH Luis Aras the wi in the pitch foul ball [Music] there kicks andal wouldn't chase that time got him looking for the strikeout called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he's set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers could sometimes get too caught up in try to rack up KS early in their career boo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting the ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further one down base is empty and a foul ball ta weights hard ground ball base KN so they get a man aboard with a one out [Applause] single Fernando tatis Jr with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you've worked to get here here's Donovan [Applause] Solano pitches in there it's own and one [Applause] righty to the plate in the air out towards left cter nice grab on the run and there's two down as we take a look at the Padre's lineup one guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Luis AR and boo we're talking about a guy who has great wheels and then puts him to good use he's the team leader in stolen bases and run scor man using his speed to just get in the scoring position and then just flying home when the guy's behind him put the ball in play I absolutely love watching him do it because he causes havoc on the base paths Manny Machado up to the play and a good fast ball to start him off at strike one tatis off of first with two away check swing he went too far and it's a strike righty delivers and there's a fly Ball Deep right field that's back and that ball is gone a two-run shot and they grab the lead it's two nothing [Applause] really great job of anticipation there he knows he throws the Sinker that one down in the zone you're trying to beat it to the spot it's getting to well he won base is empty with two away now Xander B GS gets a chance to hit just off the outside edge ball one two down nobody [Applause] on on the ground to Third and that will end the inning two across on this San Diego Homer and it's two zip back after this on the show back here in San Diego at the batter now carry Carpenter all around I think if you asked anyone in this organization who's the best hit hitter in the lineup they would say him well after putting up a nice Inning on offense got some runs across this is where you look for the starter to go out there have a shutdown inning don't give that other team any hope uh you just hope that he can get through this inning get the bats back up there while they're hot the one pulls that one foul here's a one-1 that one fouled [Applause] off here comes a pitch foul ball still a one and two count and a swing and a miss one away Chris as we look back at the pitch sequence he hadn't seen that curveball at all how tough is it to adjust to something like that with a bunch of break when you haven't had a look at it yet yeah I mean you're dialed up for something firm you never want to take a called third strike as a fast ball so you're going to be a little anxious before you recognize the pitch and right there clearly didn't see what was coming Colt he in the box now no balls in a strike the Padre's leading by two here at the top of the second pulled hard but it's a foul ball oh that ball was hit pretty hard and sure had home run distance but you're the pitcher out there on the mound you execute it just a long strike you go after him and finish him off swing and a miss throw pulls him off the bag and he's safe well you don't see it very often but every once in a while a guy strikes out and still somehow ends up safe on First and when it happens you kind of scratch your head but I guess sometimes a pitch is so nasty it makes everyone Miss now they're going to have to get more than three outs in this inning now Spencer Tolson fast ball for a strike man at first one away that misses and that's ball one Eric summersgill our plate umpire one thing to watch out for boo is what side of the plate summersgill might be favoring he usually sets up at an angle pitchers sometimes will try to figure that out early so they can attack that spot and get as many strike calls as possible and strike two [Music] line drive base hit right field quick throw back in lead Runner holds it second with one gone Spencer Tolson with his first major league hit and two outs Trey Sweeney up now for the Tigers and there's a foul ball right side and that's just [Applause] foul that one is absolutely belted that's back and gone he circles the bases his first Homer of the year and they jump ahead in the second it's 3-2 how in the world did he do that that pitch was outside the zone and he still got it out of here well I'm not really sure how he kept that fair when you're out in front on a breaking ball like that such a good chance that it's going to hook foul but not this time he kept the hands moving forward just long enough to sneak it inside that foul pole and now it's going to be Jake Rogers out side just [Applause] missed and that one fouled off two outs fouls one off two and two right-hander kicks deals hard grounder into the outfield for a KN Joey gets on base and keeps it going Jake Rogers with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here so the batting order turns over and now here's a speed threat outfielder Parker Meadows there's a swing and a drive see you later he made him pay for that one second home run of the inning for him and they boost their lead it's 52 and that shot makes their grip on the lead even tighter love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat you watch him from the on Deck Circle so when you step in the Box you're ready to pull the trigger wherever it's at really good job by the hitter total conviction on that swing two outs nobody on here's Riley green and that one is lifted in the air merrow tracks it down for the out but two round Trippers in this inning the long ball was working it's now 52 and we're back bottom of the second and here's the rookie center fielder Jackson Merill he's got pop which is a little sneaky because he's so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field but he can jump you if you make a mistake that one finds the Zone that's strike one this is a very important inning here after scoring All Those runs you want your pitcher to come out and just mow them down the offense has worked hard it's shut down any time the 02 spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another [Applause] on the ground right side the throw to first lead off man retired here in the second David Peralta at the plate [Applause] that's in for a strike and a pitch inside almost got him the Tigers leading by three bottom half of inning number two swing and a miss struck him out two away now the catcher up to hit Kyle higashioka they say he went I got to call nlds game four here in 2022 at Peto Park where the Padre's knocked out their Rivals the LA Dodgers the place was just nuts the entire game terrific fan support o and two now started to go after it now we'll look down to First and he W around not an easy call there but that puts an end to the inning three up three down for San Diego they Trail at 5-2 back here at Petco Park on to the third inning and now the DH Matt verling verling starting as the designated hitter 27 years old and he was a fifth round pick back in [Applause] 2018 got the back going too soon at strike two been a rough start on the mount for this guy this third inning so important for him to get on track Turn the Page settle in do all those things you need to do to give your team a little bit of length in this one the pitch good job to fight that one off the onew fouled off the plate they'll do it [Music] again and he deals and another ball wouldn't chase that time payoff pitch foul ball and it remains a full count the pitch gets a piece there we'll do it again 3-2 now and he walked him that's a great at thatat he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk Bo do you think you could draw Walk In The Bigs if we gave you enough Advance oh that's a good question um I think that if they gave the pitcher a false scouting report on me yes I think I could draw one Carpenter in the box now as he lead leaves that one up high next offering is in for a strike man this guy's got a great feel for his breaking ball today next offering in there for a strike and the count one and two the pitch ground ball right side could be two there's one on the first double play for me that's one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield the first baseman has to get inside create a throwing Lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to First really good job all the way around here's the second baseman Colt keath that Clips the short stop Mason McCoy hanfy back to work pitch misses inside and that is ball one highfly ball right field Carpenter makes the catch and there's one gone so the San Diego batting order turns over Luis arise stands in and there's one thing on his mind this at bat getting that first hit at the big league level swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field that'll TouchDown for a hit now he'll turn for second and his first big league hit is a double Luis Aras with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could could have carved out a career in other sports if he wanted but he grew up in a baseball family with baseball in his blood man it's second swings through that one going and two now swings and sends a rocket to right Carpenter makes the catch two down and here's the first baseman Donovan Solano he's 0 for one close one doesn't get the call ball one the podres trailing by three here in the last half of the third fouled off left side and the righty deals Line Drive caught Padre's leave one and the deficit remains 52 back here in San Diego John shamby with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Jace Young the rander back to work and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter you know the first manager to ever win a game here at Petco Park was Tony Gwyn yes Tony Gwyn they had a college B baseball tournament here in March 2004 and Tony managed San Diego State to a win swing and a miss got him to go up the ladder for the K thought it was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we're seeing more fast balls in that location hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger Sweeney batting for the second time and that's strike one and that's outside and the count is one and one base is empty one away top half of inning number four the other way could be extra bases around first heading for two and he'll reach second with one away oh the throw is over his head having a really nice game here that's his second extra base hit anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that's great work right there and now the catcher comes up to H Jake Rogers one for one with a single and a run scored so far pitch misses inside and that's ball one Sweeney over it second one down that one inside and the count is two and0 double barreled action in the bullpen for San Diego Martin Perez the left-hander up in throwing Scott also throwing man it's second and that's through there for a [Applause] strike that one fouled off two and two and the pitch runner at second here one gone and a swing in a miss and there's two down that was a really nice pitch call for that putaway slider right there you look at the sequence in that at bat and he hadn't thrown it yet so this makes it really tough to recognize and fight off with two strikes I'm sure it looked like a fast ball all the way until it wasn't and stepping in is the speed speed Parker Meadows he's already homered in this game swing in a Miss as he was late man on second two down and a swinging a Miss there well he's been aggressive right out of the box and a smart pitcher is going to play off of that especially when you get to two strikes gets a piece and it stays 0 and two got him looking and he didn't like the call no runs one hit no errors and a man left to the bottom of inning number four now it's the Tigers five and the Padre's two ready to go bottom four here's Manny Machado now the [Music] pitch you know boo Petco Park seems to be transforming into machado's Castle nobody's hit more home runs in this Ballpark and Machado passed Adrien Gonzalez for the top spot on the list in 2023 that one not close now one and two that's foul off to the right side keeps the ab [Applause] going swings and misses and one gone to the fourth as they get the leadoff man he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fooled bards in the box with one away as he takes ball one the Tigers leading by three we're here in the bottom of the fourth swing and a ball lifted left field Meadows makes the grab and there's two G two outs Bas is empty Jackson Merill the next up for the Padres rolled out to second in his first at bat upstairs in the air left field under this one makes the grab and that's the third out out of the bullpen for the Padres Martin Perez on for his major league debut so we'll see if he's ready for the big stage he just has to remember this is the same game that he's played all the way through the minor leagues to this point the only difference there're just more people in the stands and it's a bigger Stadium but the game itself is still the same look at the catcher whatever fingers he puts down that's what you throw and just let him Lead You In This one well these Tigers putting together some really good at bats in this game there's been a lot to like with how they're approaching their chances at the pl it looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early get him out of the game before he settles in so I'd say mission accomplished next is the designated hitter Matt [Applause] verling first pitch doesn't find the Zone well not only can Perez pitch but he can also sing remember he performed the national anthem for team Venezuela leading up to the World Baseball Classic if you watch that video you'll see how much that moment meant to him kicks and fires lifted in the air out to left Peralta has a beat on it and there're two down just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he's going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some Authority instead of a fly out to left and first off ring is fouled off two down nobody on and we're at the top of the fifth on the line base hit carry Carpenter with his first major league hit and this is the moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game he's really working him away this sbat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield two and0 to cow here it comes fouled off to the right and the pitch that one lifted to left Peralta hauls it in to end the inning Tigers leave one they're still out in front 52 and we're back we head to the bottom of the fifth stepping in for San Diego David [Music] Peralta and here it comes that one misses one and0 you know these Padres just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they've been chasing pitches outside the Zone all game and it's led to some frustrating moments they've been fooled quite a bit today that one finds the zone and one and one [Applause] left hand batter Waits that misses and it's two and two foul ball left side he'll see another so glad these ballparks have installed The netting to protect the fans keep things safer all around the lead this one smoked out to left no trouble here puts it away for the out and there's one away here's the power hitting catcher Kyle higashioka first pitch and he just misses just off the Inside Edge got to be real careful here two he's hunting for his pitch that one misses three balls no strikes he hasn't fallen behind in the count like this all day he's in danger of walking his first batter right here fast ball for a strike thought the green light might be on right there but maybe not if you're looking to swing in that count that's the pitch you want and there's Ball Four I don't think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow so digging in now for San Diego Mason McCoy flyed to right his first time [Applause] swing in a Miss strike one higashioka at first one [Applause] gone next pitch is outside ground ball left side could be two feeds to Second out there and that's two so they make short work of them there five innings complete it's the Tigers five and the Padres two and welome back to the ballpark top of the sixth inning and now the first baseman Spencer Tolson Perez 33 years old and they traded for him earlier this year right down to shoot strike one there it was O here it is hit it he gets a take gets ahe in the count hard hit left side throws across the diamond and they get torlon for the out and next up for the Tigers Jace [Applause] Young and a good eye there base is empty one away and we're the top half of the sixth and a foul [Music] ball and now the Lefty on the ground right side throws to First in time two quick outs to open the top of the six good armide run and sink on that pitch right there got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out now it's the short stop Trey Sweeny and he had a big swing of the bat early on in the ball game yep a three-run rocket back in the second even though it was early a big Homer like that can be tough to come back from when you're on the other end of that thing I mean it's tough sets up an uphill battle the rest of the way Clips the corner going one foul ball to the right side Solano takes it to the bag and the Tigers retired one two three bottom of the sixth inning now the DH for the Padres Luis arise the wide to the pitch oh you got to give him credit out there on the mound this outing started off a little shaky but he's found a way to settle in and turned this into a pretty good start kind of shows you a lot about his mental makeup as a pitcher next offering in there for a strike that is strike two 02 count both pitches on the inside part of the plate hitter is thinking I don't want to get beat here this is a good time for something off speed away and a pitch ripped to short snag on a bounce throw on to Tolson and that's one out as they get the lead off hitter in the [Music] sixth so with one down it'll bring up Fernando tatis Jr singled and scored back in the first he's one for two lace down the line this looks like extra bases around first and hustling for second in safely it's a double and his second hit went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle first pitch fast ball in a great spot to do some damage and he squared it up [Applause] nicely one out runner at second and here's the first baseman Donovan Solano that pitch in for a strike it's old and one [Applause] hanfy picks over tatis Dives back in tatis leads off second with one gone in the inning check swing no appeal in the air left field field sizing this one up and there's two now good pitch he just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn't able to stay closed now Machado up here he's already homered here in this one and Manny gets a piece and the rander deals swings and misses oh and two now the high fast ball particularly for young hitters can be hard to lay off of because you see it so well at eye level but it's really hard to catch up and get that Top Hand to work on time foul ball it stays nothing in two look out that ball was smoked man I am so relieved that they have this netting down the lines just ensure safety for the fans last thing is a play ah he locked him up and that'll do it the inning is over one hit one left seventh inning coming up it's the Tigers five and the Padres two top of inning number seven now here's the Detroit catcher Jake Rogers parez back to work that's to third Machado tosses across the first that's the first out the top of the seven and up next for Detroit Parker Meadows one for three strike one that one drifts inside one down base is empty liner and that should be extra bases makes the turn and heads for second around second now as they still don't have it passes third he wants it all the relay throw it's offline the Run comes in and they lead by four well they call it one of the most exciting plays in Baseball for a reason boo always fun to see an inside the Parker and man he was flying out of the box and I think that by the time he was getting a second he had it in his mind to go all the way that's his great hustle from start to finish now the number two hitter Riley green first offering Miss badley for ball one that catches the corner one out base is empty and a run in here in the top half of inning number seven check swing did he go yes he [Applause] did the wine of the pitch and another ball [Music] the pitch spoils that one and it remains two and two hanging in there pretty good against the Lefty the wi in the pitch bals it back with two strikes here comes a pitch he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three- hole hitter coming up if he's walked and he deals good plate appearance there able to take the walk it wasn't easy but he earned that walk after a long at bat so now here's the DH Matt verling he swings and misses at the first pitch o and one good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it next pitch is outside line drive and that's a base hit out of center field they get it in quickly so first and second now one out man those are the types of hits where you don't feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever such a good feeling other than ripping one into the gap or blasting one over the wall there aren't a whole lot of hits that are more satisfying than a nice Line Drive in the center field so that definitely felt good sharp grounder that's through for a base hit rounds third headed for the plate now a long throw home it's off the mark and he scored Wast no time there not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play that's a team at bat right there nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep Tanner Scott into the game on for his major league debut and a moment he will never forget better believe that it's always so special the first time you get into a big league ball game I did it as a position player but for him as a pitcher I'm sure there's some nerves there probably don't want to squeeze the baseball too tight just relax and do what you're capable of doing Colt Kei up now for the Tigers first pitch misses still only one out here in the inning and that is in for a strike and the count one and [Applause] one and that one is inside tough spot right here couple Runners on two ball count you can't nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it's going to bring in some runs drilled to right way back there and that is gone a gigantic blast it's their second home run of the inning it's 10 to2 that's their fourth home run of the game they can't stop and they won't stop hitting home runs in this one boo they're clearly feeding off of each other at the dish knew what pitch he wanted to hit spit on some other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid off Spencer Tolson getting ready to hit pitch misses ball one plenty of offense in this one singy I guess you'd say kind of what we expected though well this was a game looking at the pitching matchup where you expected offense to score and not as lopsided as this that one ripped and it's a one hopper Off the Wall should be extra bases and that's a double little more back spin on that and instead of the Top Spin and he's jogging around the bases rather than pulling up at [Applause] second so man aboard now the third baseman Jace Young and the first pitch misses for ball one Tolson the runner at second with one away that one inside two and0 inside just missed three-oh down and he walked him on four pitches B just came apart right there four pitch walk and guy at the play was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the Zone one down and now the short stop Trey [Applause] Sweeny that one catches the Zone that's strike one there it was a high velocity fastball in the zone I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter he's got good stuff pitch inside the zone and trust it two on one out in there for a strike at the top of the Zone don't play situation here he's been working up in the zone typically you look for guys to get that ground ball see if he adjusts on this next pitch kicks and Deals keeps the back going with a foul ball the 02 swag in a miss the velocity blasted it right past him typically that high fast ball if it's close to the top of the strike zone a hitter if he's prepared for it can get to it but that one just had that little jump at the end which indicates there's a good spin rate on it and it didn't decrease in velocity as that hitter's internal clock would expect it to and that's why you see the swing and Miss Rogers stands in now and watches strike one first and second two down field two swings through it and that's a strike out all in all 10 come to the plate they bat around at five score seventh inning stretch time Tigers 10 and the Padre's [Music] two back here at Petco Park it's sander Bogarts now as he turns on the rubber here with that good live arm delivers and that's a strike activity in the bullpen Shelby Miller getting loose for AJ hinch number 73 a left-hander also throwing and a pitch just missed and now two and one the wi to kick the pitch fouls one off two and two swing and that ball smashed on a line green makes the play and there's one down man that's one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it's about the process he did everything right right there nothing to show for it but in your mind you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat on the mound he had a little trouble back in the first but it's been a different story the rest of the way really settled into this outing nicely Merill up to the plate for the third time as he looks at one down low and a foul [Applause] ball and another ball the Padres with a lot of ground to make up here at the bottom of the seven gets a piece and stays alive righty to the plate close one doesn't get the call Full Count three and two outside and that is ball four oh he's starting to look a little Gass to me and we'll see if they go to the bullpen in this spot or not next for the Padre's David Peralta [Applause] that one's upstairs ball one and that is ball one out towards left Center Meadows makes the play and there's two away Kyle higashioka the next to hit Outfield playing very deep not wanting anything over their heads right through there for a strike merrow leads off first with two down to the inning very dominant with that fast ball inside hitters going to be conscious of that now you have the outer half of the play ugly cut on the slider for it's a strike out lead off man is out here in the eighth first strike out for him in this one that splitter is maybe the go-to pitch when he's looking for a swinging Miss like that he throws it quite a bit and that's a good example of the effect it can have on a hitter arise batting with one down takes a strike meanwhile activity in the bullpen Ricky Vasco preparing to come on if needed Bas is empty one away here the bottom half of the eighth inning strike two that one ripped that's a fair ball and it's getting into the corner in safely with a double his second of the day nice double right there loud contact coming off the bat didn't get enough air under to drive it out of here but you'll take that swing and that result every time and the batter will be Fernando tatis Jr this guy is one of the best athletes in the sport po foul out of play off to the right theise over it second one [Applause] down next offering misses one and one good purpose pitch right there trying to tease him get one pretty well and if he hits it just a little bit different on the barrel it's out of here easily but there's nothing wrong with the extra bases right there so two down and now the first baseman Donovan salano check swing he went too far and it's a strike runner at second two now that one [Applause] missed man a big swing and a miss one rander kicks deals up the middle Sweeney slings to first that's out number three Padre's leave one it's 12 to two all set to start the ninth in this one and here's the first baseman Spencer Tolson morol back to work that misses the Zone one and0 this one in the air Machado on under it puts it away for the out one down that was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate had pretty good timing on it just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up and next up for the Tigers Jace Young and that one just misses a ball and no strikes in the air right side out number two two outs Bas is empty and the batter will be the short stop Trey Sweeney first pitch doesn't find the Zone one no [Applause] fouls one off out of play back to our left the one one and another ball pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there started on the edge of the plate with the spin you know it's going to finish well off the plate swing a pop up Barts settles under it makes the grab and that'll end the inning offense held in check there on to the bottom of inning number nine 456 coming up it's the Tigers 12 and the Padres two so bottom of the ninth and now it's Manny Machado when you talk about Elite defensive in third baseman this guy is at the top of the list here the right hter back to work and first offering is fouled off this guy plays Third Base like he's a short stop and he welcomes the difficult play can throw from so many different angles and makes really tough plays look very easy Machado out of the player here's Xander Bogarts first pitch just misses and there's a ball the Padres with a lot of ground to make up here in the last half of inning number nine next pitch misses and now three and0 and that's Ball Four close pitch there but you got to forget about that call if you're out on the mound you can't let it affect you going forward you got to get out of the inning first and then if you want to be frustrated take it out in the [Applause] Dugout he swings and fouls one off and a pitch so a foul ball makes it one and two Barts stands at first with one out and that one missing low pitch misses there and it's a full count right-handed reliever and a growl ball to First and it finds its way through for aeit they fired quickly so it's first and second with only one away Jackson Merill with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard youve worked to get here so first and second with one man gone and here is David Peralta that immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter
