NCAAF Week 0: SMU vs Nevada Betting Preview

all right everyone here is our betting preview for SMU versus Nevada let's get right into it we're going to start by looking at the odd so it's minus 242 SMU uh over 552 is the total in the game and on the money line SMU is minus 2800 while Nevada is plus 1300 so we're going to start as we always do by giving you our thoughts on both sides on why they could cover right we want to show you the full look at both sides of this so SMU um they're returning a lot of starters and obviously on the offensive end this team is highly skilled they're playing Nevada who is you know they have a weaker run defense SMU should be able to exploit that and the bottom line is the minus 24 and a half you're going to need to score points right this is going to be something where you need SMU to put up a big big number so if you're looking at this it's a scary number but if you think that Nevada isn't going to be able to stop the run if think that SMU is going to be able to get whatever they want and Nevada is not going to be be able to put up a ton of points that's what the argument is for the minus 24 a half now on Nevada's side this is going to be similar to what we've talked about in the past and that is that you know to me there's not a ton of argument for Nevada here but where the argument exists is in the fact this is the first game of the season and when you're talking about a game like this first game you don't really know what you're getting on S even if they do have these starters returning you really don't know what you're getting out of Nevada and you don't know how in Rhythm this team's going to be so it's not that we're saying Nevada is going to beat SMU but could Nevada keep it closer than 24 points I think so so now we're going to move over to the total now this is what I would call this total a bet that you can actually utilize the spread to make the argument for right and what I mean by that is if you believe SMU is going to cover by 242 points there's a chance that maybe you look over to the 552 and think okay I think SMU is going to cover I also think Nevada can score so instead of me having to say okay I'm going to bet the minus 24 and a half I'm going to kind of take the total instead right because if you figure SMU can is going to outscore Nevada by over by all by 25 points then you can also look at it and go oh man okay well in that case then I could maybe take the over 55 and a half right if you also think NADA is going to score so keep them keep that in mind when you're cuz sometimes I think when people look at totals they don't even consider the spread portion right keep that in mind if you have a feeling on a spread utilize that a little bit when you're thinking of your total because you go oh okay so if I do think this is going to happen maybe it's actually a safer play to go around and just get the total so then I don't have to worry about is SMU going to cover but I don't think that's that's not the one we like the most anyways I'm just keep that in mind the money lines obviously minus 2800 you're not laying that straight up you may not even lay that in a parlay so smu's money line is really non-existent Nevada at plus 1300 that would be a big win but when you have a spread like 24 A2 you usually it's smarter just to say I'm going to take those points obviously it's nowhere near the odds but you know if if you were betting NADA money line and you lost by one you'd be pretty pissed because you're like man I had 24 and a half points I could have used and if if you are if you're someone who's like you know what I'm leaning actually towards the money line well just take that 242 and tease it or or you don't have to tease it actually you just alt it right because teasing it would give you even more points alt spread it right you could you could get make that plus 1300 plus 700 plus 600 instead of plus 1300 and at least you're going to have some semence of points all right so as we always say no profit is guaranteed you know this isn't like a pick site or anything like that this is just our thoughts on the game but our pick here is going to be SMU minus 24 a half I just think a team like SMU can just get this thing going early and I think Nevada is going to struggle to SC to stop the high-scoring offens of SMU and they should be able to cover those points
