>>Oh >>The 2024 high school football season officially underway here in Middle Tennessee We start the night at Brentwood Academy, the home of the Eagles and the home of our game of the week. I'm Jill Jellinek. Welcome in to Football Frenzy Live, sponsored by Wilson Bank and trust. Over the next half hour, we'll preview a handful of top matchups all across the Mid State, including our game of the week. We'll also have player and coach interviews, FFL forecasts, and much, much more as you can see behind me, Brentwood and Brentwood Academy getting ready for their big game. That's our game of the week I'll have more on that in just a bit. But first, let's start with some action. I'm talking about Thursday Night Lights. Oh yes, week two already underway. Lipscomb Academy Mustangs hosting the Thompson Warriors last night. The Warriors on the attack. All first half receiver Bryce Lewis finding the end zone to give Thompson a 27 lead at halftime But Mustangs not giving up. Mustangs able to get a rally going here in the third. First the muffed punt by Thompson and Lipscomb Academy recovers the fumble Shortly after that, quarterback Tav Shaffer laughing it up, connects with Cam Blevins back left corner of the endzone. Mustangs cut into the lead. 20 to 14 and they're not done yet. Shortly after, running back Zachariah Crockett twirling his way into the end zone making it 2721. But unfortunately, that would be as close as it would get for the Mustangs. Lipscomb Academy's come back falls short 2721. That final a hard fought battle by your players tonight, almost completing the comeback for the second week in a row. What was the difference in the game tonight? >>Oh, I mean, just small mistakes I think, you know, you make your biggest jump from the first game to the second game. And so we were much better in the first half than we were the last game. We actually played four quarters this time. So I think we cleaned up some of those little things, continue to work, continue to get better. We'll be perfectly fine. >>You mentioned the jump from week one to week two. What have you learned about your team? The first two weeks of the season? >>We have a lot of heart We got a lot of fight. So I know for a fact that we're not giving up at all. So this oh and two start. Hey, listen, I've been here before. I've been in that situation where we're owing two and we finished the season. We end up in the state championship game. So we're going to continue to fight. We're gonna continue to work, and we're going to get better, I promise. >>Thank you, coach. Thanks for your time. Thank you so much. Doesn't get any easier for the Mustangs. They will host Briarcrest Christian next week. And then we'll kick off region play September 13th against Chattanooga powerhouse Baylor Bears >>In the South End zone for our game of the week >>This week features two schools just down the street from one another. Brentwood Academy and Brentwood Bruins. The two are Non-region foes, but they play every so often. And that's why tonight it's our game of the week. Now, Brentwood Academy has a first year head coach in Paul Wade. They brought him over from DC A and Davidson Academy where he won four state titles. Now coach Wade will have his work cut out for him this year, taking on the top teams in all of Tennessee. But he also has the top quarterback in all of Tennessee to lean on this season in George McIntyre, at six foot five, 182 pounds, George McIntyre has turned heads the past two seasons for the Eagles and he will do so again his senior year. >>I'm excited I got nine more regular season games, you know, with the kids. I've been playing with since sixth grade, so we're trying to make the most of it and hopefully make a little run. >>McIntyre is the grandson of former Vanderbilt football coach George McIntyre, and is the number one ranked quarterback in the state of Tennessee for the class of 2025. >>George is a he's first of all, he's a great kid, you know, the unique thing about it that I'm so honored to get to coach him, because his grandfather gave me my first job. And that's a story a lot of people know about. But that's a special thing in itself But, golly, you're talking about a kid with a lot of pressure. Oh, my gosh. And the way he's handled it has been unbelievable. And he's a great player. He's been a great leader, and we just excited about what he's going to do for us. Building off of last week as far as his future is concerned McIntyre isn't going far from home. >>He committed to the University of Tennessee and chose the Vols over Alabama and several other top programs, >>you know, I really just felt like home to me. They have a really good quarterback support system, you know Coach Hypo likes to rip it, and that's there's no one else I'd rather play for before he gets to Rocky Top. >>McIntyre's work is not done yet at Brentwood Academy, as he has his sights set on bringing the Eagles a gold ball trophy. >>I would say you got to build every week My sophomore year, when we were really good and you know, we're an inch away from making it to the state championship. You know, I think every week we got better. We made adjustments schematically. And then also the players, they just got every game. They just got a little bit better So I think that's a big thing. You know I think we're definitely trying to build on that We got a lot of young guys who are going to have to step up between now and then. So that'd be fun. >>Roster tight end George McIntyre and the Eagles, with their work cut out for them, start of this season. >>They'll take on Christian Brothers next week followed by Father Ryan. And then they open up region play against the defending champs McAuley. Blue tornado >>And the quarterback. >>All right, time to bring in our Fox 17 meteorologist Brett Luna. Joining us now part of the FFL forecast crew. And Brett before it didn't look good but so far so good for tonight's weather >>Number two Loveland. The Royals. And now the Eagle. >>Hey. So we've had some rain on our way down here. We got caught up in a few rain showers. That was probably about 430 this afternoon or so, but very fortunate for this game down here in Brentwood. All that rain has cleared on out of here. Now you're looking at radar and we're not seeing any rain popping up, at least super close to us here in Williamson County or right now. So we are all dry here at Brentwood Academy right now. Temperatures are also feeling a lot better than they were a little bit earlier to that Rain did help cool some things down. Right now we have temperatures in the upper 70s for a lot of us here across Middle Tennessee, we're sitting at about 78 right here. So the weather tonight really not near as bad as it could have been a little bit earlier today before that little round of rain moved through That puts our heat index values very close to our actual temperature. Still a little bit of moisture there. It feels about 80 right here in Brentwood. So just a couple degrees actually higher than what our actual air temperature is. But we'll take a look more show you what the rest of these next few hours are looking like for the game. Right now, though, it does look like the weather is looking pretty good >>Thanks so much, Brett We are just getting started here on football Frenzy Live. After Welcome back to Football Frenzy Live. Friday Night Lights underway Also some Friday night emotions a lot of excitement as we kick off week two of the high school football season. I'm here at Brentwood Academy High School, the home of our game of the week. The Eagles are hosting the Brentwood Bruins, who are the defending region six six, eight champs. However, the Bruins lost a handful of top players last year to graduation. Since then, the motto has been rebuild. They've been building chemistry every week throughout the offseason leading up to the 2024 year, and it started to show just last week. In week one. a statement week one of the high school football season coming from behind to defeat the Blackman Blaze. Thanks to this 92 yard interception touchdown return, the Bruins would get their first win of the season 2414. >>Well, you always want to win the first one. That's huge okay, it allows you to build momentum going into week two, I've told everybody that this team has a lot of new faces on it and you need to see if your kids are going to go out and battle through adversity. And our kids did that. So as great as the win was, just our approach to the adversity was a huge made me feel a lot more comfortable going into the season. >>The Bruins are coming off an impressive 2023 season where they won the region six Six-a crown and made a deep run to the semifinals of the Blue Cross Bowl. However, the team graduated 32 seniors and quickly went into rebuild mode this offseason. >>If you look on the front bumper of our helmets, we've put the word build on there and we tell the kids all the time that when you build something, you try to put the pieces together and if you get the pieces put together, it gets stronger. So our off season, our spring practice our summer was all about who needs to be on the field where do they need to be? And it was a challenge, but it was a lot of fun to try to figure out the pieces. >>Personally, I think having a new team is is really fun and having to build up from the ground is pretty fun too But losing 32 seniors is a lot so having to bounce back and build up your new team, it's a lot of fun. >>The Bruins next test comes from right down the street. Brentwood and Brentwood Academy don't play each other every year, but when they do you can always expect fireworks on Friday night. >>It's always super fun The fans are always there I know a lot of a lot of guys at bay, so it's really fun. It's a it's a good bond. >>It is important for the community. I think it's important for the schools. There's a certain amount of bragging rights that go with it. For us, though, it's also a chance to challenge yourself against one of the teams in the state that has tremendous history, a really good talent, really well coached. So you want to play those guys early on because you're going to play people like that in the playoffs >>Tonight's >>Fuels the leadership and the way that he brought parents together to support the countdown to kickoff is officially on. >>We are 15 minutes away from kickoff from our game of the week. The Brentwood Academy Eagles hosting their rivals, the Brentwood Bruins, for our game of the week. Now, we've talked about that game so far in our show, but that's not the only top matchup here in Middle Tennessee tonight We also have one not too far away. The Bishops Cup with two big time rivals for more on that, let's bring in our other member of our football Frenzy Live team, Caitlin Miller. Caitlin, what can you tell us about the Bishops Cup? Always a lot of excitement surrounding that game. >>Stand in harm's way on our part. >>Yes, Joe, we are at Father Ryan for the annual Bishops Cup. We have Father Ryan going up against Pope John Paul. Now, Father Ryan, last year brought home the Cup for the first time since 2015. But the question is, can they do it again now? Other exciting news for Father Ryan. I am walking over to the band director, Jeremy Fry. Jeremy, you guys have had such a cool opportunity with the EA sports football game. You guys actually worked with local musicians to provide the sound for this game >>Yeah, it was a great opportunity, we were contacted by a mutual connection and we recorded everything here on campus and our kids were involved, and it was just thrilling when the trailer came out to to hear you know, our kids be part of this great experience. >>And I know you guys posted it a lot on social media. Obviously, the recording process. Tell me a little bit about what that looked like. >>Yeah, our social media just like absolutely blew up when we when we were able to post about it, it was the kids didn't even know what they were playing when we, when we first told them, like, hey, we got a great opportunity. We can't tell you what it is, but you really want to be involved. We had a couple of kids who were, you know, tied up with some other things, but we couldn't tell them what it was because it was, you know, because of NDAs. So it was thrilling. Once it finally came out, we were able to tell everybody that we were involved with it. So it was it was great. >>Awesome. Well, Jeremy thank you so much. I'm looking forward to listening to the band tonight. The game kicks off here tonight at seven. Reporting live from Father Ryan. I'm Caitlin Miller, Fox 17 news. Your code red station >>Thanks so much Caitlin. Looking forward to the Bishops Cup tonight All right. Now, one of the great benefits of having a pregame show is that we get to rank all the top teams in Middle Tennessee going into tonight Now for that to help us do that, let's bring in MTsU football Analyst and 1025 The Game host Joe Dubin. Joe, take it away for week two. >>Hey Joe, excited to be back for week two for a Fox 17 top 17 teams and high school football around Middle Tennessee without regards to classes or divisions or anything else. Just what I think are the top 17 teams coming in number 17. The Father Ryan fighting Irish head coach Brian Rector is off to a great start. Big win over Overton last week. But tonight it's the Bishops Cup. The big rivalry game versus Pope John Paul. We'll see what this Father Ryan team is made of later tonight. Number 16 the Riverdale Warriors coach will Crisky big win for squad last week over Smyrna. We'll see how they do in week two coming number 15 Pearl-cohn I know they lost last week to NBA, but I'm telling you he's one of the best coaches in the entire state of Tennessee. And Pearl-cohn will be back. 14 Macon County, they've entered the chat Joe Macon County A lot of folks in Lafayette are happy about this football team We'll see how well they do. Coming in at number 13, Nashville Christian Jeff Brothers might be the most underrated football coach in the state of Tennessee, coming in at number 12. Green Hill. That's right. Green Hill. Big win last week over Clarksville Northeast. Number 11 East Nashville. You know I love my East Nashville squad and my metro squads Let's hope East Nashville will keep this thing rolling. Get back to the state championship. Number ten Antioch. A lot of people have reached out about Antioch last week. Tell me how good they are. They took down a pretty good Lebanon squad coach Arsen Broom in his first year over there at Antioch, is doing another great job. Number nine East Robertson. Yeah we're going out of the city, out to the county. Great squad there. Coming in at number eight. I gotta tell you, it's the Nolensville football team. Great squad. Big win last week over Rockvale. We'll see how they do this week. Number seven the Beach Buccaneers Nobody's talking about beach out there in Sumner County and all. Coach Crabtree squads. Do they win number six Ensworth head coach Tim Houseman got his first win last week. Got the game ball. Congrats to our good friend Tim Hasselbeck coming number five CPA. I mean they lost so many players off their state championship >>Might be Jill, the most talented squad in all of Middle Tennessee. We'll see how that all plays out. Number three, the Mount Juliet Golden Bears. Coach Trey Perry. Another solid squad out there. That same division though with Green Hill. That's a battle at the end of the year Coming in at number two, the Ravenwood Raptors huge win on the road over Alcoa last week. Of course big game time for that team tonight. Also in week two. At number one we got to go with the Oakland Patriots. Jill until somebody knocks them off they still the premier program in all of Middle Tennessee. So in the second week the number one team in our Fox 17 top 17 the Oakland Patriots Yeah it's a lot of fun. All right Jill back to you >>Gavin Schaefer number three. And you know we've actually really had really nice weather down here in Brentwood. We had some showers, some thunderstorms even on our way down here earlier this afternoon. All of that cleared out though. And it has left us with a great night for some of this high school football. You're looking at radar right now and you'll see radar is still pretty dry. Not seeing much rain at all, especially right here around the Brentwood area. Popping up on the radar map. Here's a look at our temperatures to. Our temperatures aren't near as bad as we thought they were going to be. That round of rain that moved through earlier today, that helped drop our temperatures down a little bit too So now we're having temperatures in the upper 70s for most locations Heat index values really not far off from where the actual air temperature is either. So 80 degrees right here in Nashville, 82 a little bit further south of here. So we're we're at about 81 degrees or so. Again heat index values not far off from where those actual temperatures are. These temperatures are going to fluctuate a little bit though as we head through the next few hours. But again, the weather tonight not nearly as bad as what it could have been at the start of the day. It was hot earlier. That rain that moved through earlier helped to cool us off a little bit better though, so temperatures throughout the rest of the night lower 80s, upper 70s, 77 or so for your temperature by 9:00. As far as the rain chance goes for the rest of tonight, not really looking like much of it now. Earlier, the models were showing a little bit of rainfall. Now they're kind of keeping us dry. At least from 7 to 9. 10:00. I think we should still be dry too. I know this is labor Day weekend, so if you have any Labor Day weekend plans coming up Saturday and Sunday, it's looking like we could still see some showers and thunderstorms for us each day. Tomorrow. A few of those thunderstorms could be a little bit on the strong side Damaging winds will be the main concern with that. That's going to be for Saturday afternoon. Throughout the evening hours as well. But then after that we're really going to start to see our temperatures drop down. It has been hot lately. We had three 100 plus degree days in a row, a little bit earlier this week. We're not going to have to deal with that 100 degree weather anymore, at least for the next few days. I think those temperatures are finally going to start to drop back down a little bit closer to normal. Here's your seven day forecast temperatures. Well, there was your seven day forecast, but temperatures are going to be in the 80s. And lower 90s I think for us. So again, not near as hot as we were earlier this week. All right. We'll be right back after the break of other great games. Ravenwood at Cane Ridge CPA at Pearl-cohn Ensworth at NBA, DCA at friendship Christian Franklin versus their rivals Fra. Independence at page. Oh yeah, the Bishops Cup. >>We talked about that one pjp at Father Ryan Antioch at Nolensville John Overton at Hillsboro, Upperman at Lebanon and Smyrna at Rockvale plus others. >>Now, before we say goodbye, we have one more thing to get to our Fox 17 fantastic fans Good night all right, before we close out this show, Bret, it's been a lot of fun, but we have to at least celebrate all the people that make Friday nights the best. And that's the fans. >>Absolutely And I can hardly even hear you right now. It's just so loud out here. I'm hearing some cowbells too. >>Some cowboys We also have the Brentwood Bruin section behind us. >>We'll go ahead and get out of the way. As you can see, a lot of excitement here for our game of the week. >>The Bruins taking on the Eagles for
