Thrifting for the Renaissance Faire (Vlog)

Intro oh hey I didn't see you there I was just looking out at the Horizon to see if a storm is coming do you want to join my pirate crew hold [Music] on well what are we waiting for let's go [Music] I'm going to the ren Fair this year and I'm super excited about it I went last year one time and I loved it so much that I decided I'm going multiple times this year so today I'm actually headed to the thrift store and I am looking for more pieces to add to my renfair costume last year I went as a deer I made this really cool headpiece if I do say so myself that had antlers and sunflowers and fall leaves this year I am going at least one time as a pirate so I need to look for some more piratey things to add to my outfit behind me on my my bed I have laid out all of the things I have to work with so far and then I will be adding more hopefully fingers crossed in true pirate fashion I will be pillaging and plundering I will be paying for it though so not very piratey I guess so let me show you what I have so far there's Nova Nova say hi who's a good boy who's a good piratey dog yeah he's he a good boy see he could be a pirate look at him oh so handsome so handsome in his pirate hat uh this hat I actually have had um since I was a teenager I gave it to my daughter recently but hopefully she won't mind if I borrow it for the day so here's my corset I did not wear a corset last year so I'm excited to wear one this year got a couple of belts to add this is actually part of the skirts that I wore last year I also got it from a thrift store last year and then I have a couple of uh scarves I guess or Shaws whatever you want to call this this I've had for a really long time um and then this is my mom's she said I could use it so yeah this is what I'm starting with it's not much honestly so I'm going to have to hopefully find a lot of things to add I would say the main things I'm hoping to find I need some kind of top to wear cuz that's what I'm mostly missing I'm hoping for something off the shoulder with really billowy sleeves um maybe I can find like a dress that has that sort of a top or just a top and in of itself and I'm also going to be looking for some very tall boots I do have have boots that work really well that I wore last year but I want tall ones that just is going to make me feel like a very badass pirate I think I will also be looking for some weapons so I can protect myself and my crew obviously we're peaceful Pirates um but we will use selfdefense when necessary we will protect ourselves in our community um so I do know that any weapons have to be peace tied um I don't think I'm going to be finding anything too legit at a thrift store but you never know I think one thing that I really love about the renfair is this aspect of creating an outfit I really enjoy you know seeing online what other people come up with and put together so I wanted to share my process of putting my outfit together this year and I'm going to go a few times so I may not go as a pirate every single time but the nice thing about getting more and more pieces to add to your renfair collection is you can make lots of different outfits with it by mixing and matching the pieces so off to the thrift store let's see what we can find Shopping [Music] [Music] Thrift store haul I'm back from the thrift store I also stopped at Spirit Halloween because it was right across the street and I thought why not so I'm going to show you my haul I've never done a YouTube haul before so this is a first for me but I'll start with what I got from Spirit Halloween I got this pirate necklace I really couldn't find any jewelry at the thrift store and I found that to be true a lot maybe I'm just not going to the right thrift stores probably but um I knew that they would have some kind of pirate jewelry at Spirit Halloween and they did so little cheesy but I think it'll still add to the outfit okay now I'm just going to get the rest of the cheesiness out of the way and just show you show you the weapon that I will be using to protect my crew okay I don't really have anything else to say about it but here it is I'll be sticking that in my belt okay now for the part that I'm really excited about these are all the new pieces that I got from the thrift store and I think I'll be able to use these for many different renfair outfits so I'm really really excited I was able to find two very billowy tops there's this one and this one and they feel feel so comfortable and they've got super cool sleeves look at all those details at the top I love them and honestly I loved them so much I couldn't pick one so I ended up getting them both each of them were eight bucks so I felt like that was pretty good especially for something that I am so into and will be going back multiple times and wanting to create different outfits for so it felt worth it to me look at this for the sleeves little ties how cute is that okay and then I did find um this little strap thing I don't even know what to call it but um it can go on my belt and something can hang off of it I don't know what I'll put there but um it just seemed like a good Ren Fair find all right so I saw this and I fell in love with the colors and the fabric and I was so happy that it fit I'm going to stand up so you can see it better this dress it is it's got an offthe shoulder little accessory don't know what to call that and it's so flowy and then I also found this I also just liked the flowiness of it and the fabric I don't think I would wear it as a dress but I'm kind of thinking about maybe like making it into a skirt so options for this one to top everything off I found these over the knee not not even knee high over the knee boots and I'm so excited I've never worn over the knee boots but I just feel like for a pirate these are so perfect but they could also be like the fabric reminds me of like a ranger or like you know a Robin Hood sort of character so very versatile I feel and gray goes with either brown or black so I didn't have to shoes so I was really excited they were in my size they're quite comfortable you know they've got a little bit of a heel but not too much that I'm going to be you know my feet will be hurting so yeah that's my haul and now I'm going to try on some different combinations and just see what we can put together Trying things on okay I love this this is so cute with the corset I love the off thee shoulder sleeves I definitely think it needs another skirt of some kind so I'm going to see what I can do with this one okay this is even better this is very good to have another layer here I like it I like it and then when I walk the back should flow a little bit nice all right now to accessorize o I forgot about these could we do with these oh that looks good I think I think that looks good or do we want to do it with this what do we think of this this is interesting kind of covers the bottom layer though okay interesting interesting maybe a little little too much Happening Here I kind of feel like oh this could be a skirt hike hey that's not a bad idea so this could be a skirt hike which is like where you use it to keep your skirt hiked up that's a good idea I don't know how I would do it though oh I would have to sew a loop oh I know I would have to put like two little strings off of this I think I think is that how will work I don't know actually that could work we want another belt possibly cuz I mean what pirate only has one belt I'm guessing I feel like Pirates are multi belt folks okay that looks pretty cool with like all the straps like that you know it's like yeah I'm ready for everything cuz I got two belts all right okay now we're talking now we're [Music] talking this pistol was a good idea I'm having way too much fun with this don't they like stady it with their arm like this something like that don't you have wait why do people do that why do they blow the top of their gun is it like is it the smoke is that what's happening I don't even know but I have to tell you I love sticking it in my Bel like that that is so fun all right got to add a necklace and then and honestly I think we are pretty much done I'm just going to need probably something like something cuff related would be nice okay I actually think the necklace is a great touch I do want to find a way to extend it because it's like I want it to go down a little further it's a little tight on my neck I mean it's not like choking me or anything but I just think it would look better if it was draped down a little more so I'm going to see if I can do that but otherwise I feel like it really adds and this whole outfit would be missing this piece if I didn't have it so good decision now I'm going to put on my boots okay it's hard to put boots on when you've got on a corset it's okay I got this oh all right the final look oh my god wow holy holy These Boots are so cool oh my god wow I'm so excited whoa yeah let's go to the renfair N/A woo oh my God I love this look at these boots oh my God look at them they're so cool I'm so excited about these all right I want to see how it would look if I put one of these over it I'm just curious so I just tried on the same outfit with this flowy top and it definitely looks good and it does look more traditionally piratey but for some reason I like it better the other way like without the flowy top I don't know why but yeah I don't know I don't think I'm going to go with these long sleeves especially because I think it's going to be really hot so uh I'm already like sweating so I think that's another reason why I might not do it oh I realized I realized why I like this better it's because it makes me feel like a saloon pirate that's why the the shirt is more classic pirate but this makes me feel like I'm going to go to the saloon and I'm secretly a pirate so I think this is the final look I am so so happy with it it's better than I ever could have imagined oh man I just keep wanting to pull out my weapon and brandish it around it's just so fun H I'm just it's you know what I didn't used to like to dress up like as an adult but I am finding the passion again I am the inner child within is so excited and they're coming out to play thanks for coming along with me as I searched for a pirate outfit I'm so happy with what I found and I'm so
