right oh the warm-up Act is over let's bring in Melissa Ethridge massive cheese fan Melissa Super Bowl champion two-time pro bowler in Trent green Trent green how you doing hey hey what's going on [Music] guys anybody oh he picked it off he picked it off he's got toore [Music] we'll see you next week but until then as always go Chiefs welcome into the intangibles podcast brought to you by Arrowhead Addict my name is price Carter and I am joined by a new proud owner of a Carson steel Jersey it's Christian asworth Christian where's where is it you don't have it on yet no it's shipped it's shipped it's going to be a little bit they're kind of on back order after that uh that preseason game but yeah dude what a monster game for him dude I'm Man of Steel it was uh it was impressive it was exciting um it kind of felt like that was definitely the the big winner of the week um I see your I see are you sipping on a Red Bull there yeah uh what is this elder flower not a sponsor but definitely grab one I'm on I'm on this today energy drink wise come please come get us energy drinks uh we happy to be a sponsor I will pedal your product please come get us um big big energy drink guy unfortunately it's probably shaving years off my life it's this generation's like smoking like you know like back in the old days when everyone was smoking you're like oh my God can you believe that people used to smoke like that all the time now I just like look at them all drinking energy drinks did they know like I did know and I'm happy because I'll I'll die like energized at least so um but we've got a lot of stuff to talk about speaking of energized Chief did not look necessarily energized and no loss to the Jaguars but it's preseason so no reason for panic we're going to be talking about that game we're going to be breaking down some of our risers and fallers from the game and um also we're going to be doing some film breakdown we got a quick film review that we're going to do over Xavier worthy Kings Leu Mata and Felix on aduk yam probably three of the most players that Chiefs kingdom was most interested to see how they would do so pretty excited to get to all of that but before we get going with that unfortunately we got to talk about some of the bad news that came out of this preseason game and that is the injury to Hollywood Brown now uh as of the game he after the game he was diagnosed with a a basically a broken collar bone I'll look up the exact terminology here in a second but he was in the hospital he's since been discharged he's now back in Kansas City it sounds like they avoided surgery which is a good sign this is basically the exact same situation that it was with Terry Hill they had to pop it back in place but Christian you're a 1500 yard 24 touchdown season for marqueis brown just got a little bit more challenging what do you think this means so I don't think it'll have a huge impact Tyreek Hill had a similar injury a few years ago playing the Jags as well so kind of weird coincidence there but he was out for I think it was four weeks he didn't have surgery on it looks like that's going to be the same way with Maris Brown I see him coming back like week one week two um it's gonna dampen the mood on my offseason uh expectations but you know who cares we'll be back it's all about the postseason anyway right the yeah the 1500 yard run in uh you know 14 or 15 or 16 games it's going to be historic when he does on a shorten season right hey it could happen dude we've seen crazier things happen I do so I do think looking at this though this is this is pretty significant um given the fact that the Chiefs are basically playing a game here in about 20 days or so the likelihood of him being back is very short very small that he's going to be back for the opener against the uh against the Ravens right so that that's a concern the win um they do have that little nice little 10-day break because they play on a Thursday before they play the Bengals quite honestly I think the earliest we will see him is maybe the Bengals but more than likely the Falcons game week three would probably be the time I'd expect to see him that's four weeks that's about the same time table as it was for Tyreek Hill and it also really just stinks because I thought we got a good look of like I know it was one play but I think we got a good look of some of the things that he's going to be doing that intermediate part of the field um the speed like it all flashed in that first part that first play right the first play I don't know if that's indicative of what he's going to be doing during the season I it was but it was one play but I think that like that kind of was a flash of what they were hoping for him to do right like all the time um people have always talked about him being a burner and that you know he's just going to be a vertical stretch guy and I think he's going to be a lot more than that and um you know we've talked about him kind of being one of the more complete receivers that Chief have had here for a little bit um so the question is who's next right who's up next um I think the most obvious answer is probably Xavier worthy who we're going to get to here in a little bit but how confident are you and Xavier worthy being able to take up the snaps that are now vacated by Marcus Brown's injury well I don't know if it's just going to be one person that that's kind of the thing so the Chiefs have been like a wide receiver by committee now for a few years that committee has been absolutely horrible so we can't say it's worked out for them but like Mar Brown's role in this offense was really going to be like you said attacking the middle of the field stretching the field at some points um but playing out of the X spot so X is usually on the line that's the wide receiver that's on the line he's getting pressed most of the time I don't know if where they can do that yet we saw him struggle with that you know in practices again practices are you know completely different than ingame situations but like I don't feel like you're maximizing his potential when you do that I would probably put like either Justin Ross or Watson in there at The X kind of take up some of those spots and then anytime you want to stretch the field like I hate to say it but skymore Xavier worthy those are gonna be your guys that's that's what we're down to price who who else we G throw there well a couple of things there first off I think the thing that's probably the most significant about the brown injury is that was the most obvious immediate Improvement to the receiver room that happened from one year to the next right what's the difference between this wide receiver room last year it's that you took mvs and replac them with Hollywood that that that gets a lot scarier now because that was supposed to be an instant and obvious upgrade and now that doesn't exist now a couple things I'll throw out here a lot of people are probably like don't want to hear this especially because of it's mvs but there's a good chance that both Juju Smith Shuster and mvs could be available this um here in a couple of days when the roster cutdowns have would you be interested in either one of those guys coming back to Kansas City um I'm sure there are a lot of people that are going to be available Deshaun Jackson Randy Moss might be available as well well um their time in KC is passed like I I cannot if if he can't make the Bills wide receiver room or even improve the chief's wide receiver room from last year like mvs is kind of non Plus what's he gonna do take snaps away for some of the lower guys I mean it could be the difference between him and like ni rigio who a lot of people are super high on could be him or cadarius Tony at the end of the roster that's fighting for a roster spot I know that not everybody's still on cadarius Tony but like you have to at least say he has more upside than mvs and I would say the same thing about Juju Smith Schuster but don't you think we're kind of doing the uh the Family Guy Mystery Box bit like a boat is a boat but a mystery box could be anything we've seen mvs and juu Smith Schuster in the last year or two be real NFL caliber receivers making plays in big moments for the Chiefs in Super Bowls in playoff games versus like Nico Rio we love the idea of niiko roio but like we love the idea of him in the second and third quarter of preseason games and we like the like the Special Teams ability I have no loyalty to Sky Moore or Kadarius Tony like my whole goal for this whole offseason has been make this wide receiver room skymore and caderas Tony proof to where you don't need anything from them and if that means they're not on the roster means they're not on the roster I think I'd probably have more interest in mvs than I would ju guu because I think what gu guu does right now they have on the roster with Rashid rice and with Travis Kelce mainly power slot um but I also think the redundancy of mvs I don't know well he run out of the X a lot and he is a good run blocker for wide receiver but I'm I'm just not sure I I think the good news here is that if the Chiefs did make either one of those moves the cost would be very low and you you would think that they wouldn't let that block some of their developmental guys right like you're not taking away snatch from ru rice or Xavier worthy quite frankly I don't think that this happens but I do think it's a possibility especially if let's say they go next week and Rashid rice gets suspended or Xavier worthy tweaks something or Justin Watson gets hurt like all those things could happen then like we could really be in a situation where that makes a lot more sense I I guess that's correct but with that same logic it's like if Patrick Mahomes gets injured you know we're going to be in the quarterback market for somebody to come in and and help out it's like yeah I understand like Carson Wentz might be a good player he might be fantastic it's like but you have Patrick Mahomes already on the roster even he's not playing I don't see that there's a reason for us to go invest in something um not really redundant because you can't really replace Patrick Mahomes but like the minor Improvement you're going to get from an mvs over a cadarius Tony or a sky Moore is like it's so inconsequential that there's almost really no point in doing it like I I could really not see him impacting the biggest impact he had mvs in particular was in that Super Bowl when he caught or in the AFC Championship game when he caught that last pass to seal the game away and then you know in the next game that they played in the Super Bowl he is running backwards after catching the ball five yards ahead of the L of scrimmage like you know what did he make some catches sure yeah but he also did a whole lot of bad things I'm not I'm not investing any more time anything else into known Commodities or known known players I'm I'm investing in potential upside as long as we have Travis Kelce few other Staples like rice we're going to be okay I think you you know you brought up a comment there or a term there that I think matters a lot though the investment right there was just a comment here in the chat that talked about you know that like mvs is basically a net negative on the field all year last year part of those is because he's making 11 million um I agree at $ 11 million you there was no no brainer you cut mvs at this year because of how much he cost right but I do think those guys both of them could be practice squad candidates especially if they want take the vet minimum type of thing because I believe there's some sort of vet minimum deal for guys on the practice squad like they get a set amount of money I would be interesting having one of those guys in especially if it would on the practice squad because of injuries right they don't need to be Mr Right they need to be Mr Right now the one thing that concerns me um I like that I like that not Mr Wright Mr right now hey that's how I married my wife now okay yeah not Mr Right just Mr right now that's how I married my wife okay that's why I told her just happen to work I'm still Mr right now um but like I think week two week three those are those are two guys you could plug in and fill a role right we're not talking about being the leading receiver we're talking about making 10 to 15 snaps but it'll be interesting to see what happens all this let's just hope there are no more injuries let's hope that Hollywood Brown recovers quickly and I think we'd all love to be proven wrong here and see the chase be extremely confident and Xavier worthy to that point they yanked him off the field with the starters very quickly I thought that was one of the best signs of preseason is that Xavier worthy and King suu Mata come off with the starters almost instantly right there's no we want to get these guys reps think about how different the treatment of Rashi rice was to Xavier worthy in the preseason like Rashi rice played quite a bit last preseason he was the leading receiver I think for most of the preseason besides uh legendary Amir Smith marett uh so I I I do think you know that that that's a good sign so let's just hope that they're confident in them and they have no interest in these guys but is worth talking about um before we get going on our next segment I wanted to shout shout out a Super Chat that we got from uh Raymond Chandler thank you Raymond for your awesome support of Arrowhead Addict and that's just a reminder too that we've got a great Community here at Arrowhead adct be sure to jump into our premium Discord become a member here join our awesome fantasy football leagues we've got signups going for those right now we're making a really big sleeper League Now's the Time to do it guys The Season's starting up and you want to be a part of this community it's the best place to talk Chiefs for sure so thank you again Raymond um let's go ahead and get to the pre season game a little bit um obviously we're not going to spend a ton of time breaking down Ian book but let's talk about the guys that we think mattered the most Christi and I both have three stock up and stock down some people who we think stock may be rising or may be falling so Christian why don't you to go first who do you have as your who do you have in then are is our stock rising or is it falling so the first guy that I have is Nico rigio I think that there was a lot of hype coming into this game about him he was you know hanging out with Patrick Mahomes all offseason a lot of plays in training camp stock down stock down I think we saw him make a lot of mistakes um he was not nearly as confident as I think that he was during the pre or the uh training camp stuff um part of that could just be that he's you know getting used to playing in NFL games I mean My overall takeaway from the the game was we were undisciplined undisciplined um maybe unaware of some of the new rules like that's of an Andy Reid team that's not something that I would expect I think that's literally just preseason Jitters like getting guys out there that have to make an impact Nico has to make an impact if he wants to stay on this team say what you want about cadarius Tony Sky Moore those are guys that are fighting for a roster spot and we talked about investment earlier have Chiefs have a much bigger investment in those two guys than they do the Nico Rio so they're not worried about Nico getting grabbed off of waivers once they put him to training camp or once they put him to uh oh whatever that is the uh practice squad so yeah I I I thought it was a mixed bag for him I thought that there were some times that he really looked good and made some like the separation that he had on that play that ended up honestly should have been a fumble but wasn't the separation there was impressive he he made the corner fall down now whether that was the turf that made him fall down or because of a great cut that he made I'm not entirely sure but that was that was impressive um but then like just go down to the ground he was already down he gets up and then honestly what probably should have been a fumble but wasn't I also thought you know the you talked about being sloppy a little bit it's very obvious that the Special Teams the kick game that's not ready um maybe they were just trying to be very generic and weren't trying to show anything there but the kick coverage definitely struggled and um you know you didn't really see any impact from Rio there they like wow this guy this guy's got to make it right and that's that needs to be an area I don't think it was an abysmal performance I think like if um I can't remember if it was Ian Bick or I think it was Oken he ran a corner route in the end zone and if uh if he hit some there the quarterback he would have had a touchdown um he was open so but I do think like you know he needed to have a a solid day a strong day and I'm not sure that he had all of that so it'll be interesting to see again I again it's the type of thing we haven't seen uh niik Romeo fail us yet in moments that matter like there for a while skymore was a darling now he's The Whipping Boy and that's because he's failed Us in big moments right you're you're okay until we see you fail no one is more beloved than a than a draft pick who hasn't failed yet right the first round pick or the second round pick we love them until they fail us in the spotlight then you're dead to us so but yeah Rio I think a strong game two would definitely help his case for making the roster oh yeah and so I I just have a few notes about what I watched from the game that that made me come to this conclusion first one there was the botched return do we do we all remember that goes to grab the ball uh I think it was who who was he back there with he was it was micole Hardman but I will say no no not that one he boted uh yeah I think it was a punt return early in the game um he had a huge fumble that absolutely should have counted and then just again not playing confident like the these are guys that have to play Confident I fake it till you make it there's a reason that that term exists this is time Nico you gotta fake it if you don't have it fake it until you make the roster and then see where you go from there on a little bit more positive note I'm going to stock up on Jaden Hicks um really excited by what I saw by him not even just the results the the results were great um several tackles that really look solid both in special teams and out in the flat but also I just I did get a chance to look at the all 22 on him I didn't get a chance to do a cut up yet I did uh watch a couple of series with him in I just thought that he looked like a Pros Pro nothing seemed to be moving too fast for him especially at the safety position where like quite literally you are chasing most of the time right that is your job um never looked panick and also like if if you ask someone hey why was Jaden Hicks a fourth round pick one of the things they're going to tell you is limited athletic ability because of the size I thought that he looked quick as hell I thought he looked really good in the flat um and also the ability the closing speed and getting those tackles just looked really smooth U the moment did not seem too big at him for him at all and also I'm super excited to see what the Chiefs are going to be able to do with him and Justin Reed on the field which by the way Justin field not Justin Fields I've done that twice now Justin Reed returned to the field a little bit today um rehabbing that uh quad injury he was not practicing but he was working off to the side which is kind of the first step to getting back so still a chance that Justin Reed is ready to go week one against the Ravens that's that's really exciting I think that that is going to be a wildcard type of player um you know we've seen what the Ravens do with Kyle Hamilton who's another really big guy I don't know that he's going to be working in the slot like Hamilton is but I'm really excited about this and I think you know early returns are this is a guy that the Chiefs definitely got right and just another opportunity for Brett Beach to pick a dollar bill off the ground that other teams let him pick up in the draft oh yeah and we're GNA talk about FAU a lot in the next couple of segments and so when you think of Brett V you think of well at least on Twitter you think of C you think of FAU guys who were drafted in the first round not competing dude Dave Merritt Steve smolo Brett V they know how to pick them DBS they are incredible at it they are building these guys up they're bringing them up they're making them legit stars in the NFL and like dude he he was just all over the field every play that you wanted him to make he was there I'm sure that he had some mistakes here and there that were not exactly catching but like dude what what more could you have asked of him I mean truly truly to come in play as well as he did come off the field I mean go ahead yeah I no I was just going to say uh someone brought up a comment here asking if Jaden Hicks had off the field trouble um I have not heard anything about that um I will say I've got some people who work in the draft media who kind of talk to me about this type of stuff I was one of the first people to kind of bring up rasher Rice's off the field issues because not a lot of people really talking about it whenever he was first drafted then it became a bigger bigger thing because of that information that was passed along to me I've not heard anything about Hicks hick went to Bishop Gorman which is a pretty prestigious College uh High School football program in the Las Vegas area it's like one of those schools that people move their kids to to play um and he waited his turn cuz he was kind of down the depth chart I know that um and people were impressed by that and by all accounts was a standup guy in college I've not heard anything about that I'm not saying you're wrong I'm saying I haven't heard anything about it and I did didn't see any draft profiles that had that in that a lot of times those are written into those draft profiles so um be interesting to see hopefully that's not the case but maybe it's something that I miss but yeah stock up Jaden Hicks I think this is a guy that's going to be an impact starter or player this year for sure and we've seen the Chiefs do this right like Mike Edwards was that guy last year who's you know the third or fourth safety but still have um still have plenty of opportunity on the field so be exciting to see what he does Christian who's your next uh Riser or Faller we previewed him you know him you love him the man of steel Carson steel dude was a baller like I don't know how here here was my thought process watching the game I watched pop and I was like okay 1,500 total yards possibility for sure then I watch C and I go is C the second best running back on the roster and then I watch uh Prince and I go okay Prince is the second best wide receiver or second best running back on the roster and then we got to Carson steel I was like no Carson steel is the second best running back on the roster like we saw Prince make a few mistakes we saw c not play up to I think what his talent level should allow him to play up to and then Carson steel comes out of nowhere he was one of your guys so I I'm going to let you have the floor what what did you see in him pre-draft to make you fall in love with him as a prospect honestly it's just the productivity and the M tackle numbers right if you go back and compare his numbers at Ball State to kind of like a player like Kareem hunt I don't think it's going to be Kareem hunt to be clear but uh who also played in the Mac the broken tackle numbers those were the things that really stuck out that's one of those things that especially the fantasy football Community has been really good at finding him players uh that Miss tackle rate and stuff basically like how often is this guy going to the ground on First Contact was something that was really impressive for him and then you look at that next level jump right he goes to UCLA big jump up in competition and the numbers were still there they weren't quite as dramatic because he had a huge season at Ball State and also the production in the receiving game um while it isn't substantial it's not nothing um all that just and the workload and then like he's 21 years old right um always like that obviously like him to the to the point that like he was a udfa so it's not like my evaluation rocks more than the n or whatever the consensus was that he was not a draftable player but I will say that something that does stand out to me a little bit about this is you know last week he kind of was already a buzz because he was listed at fullback on the roster everything that he did in the game this week was running back stuff we didn't see him do any of the fullback stuff there weren't any you know like two back sets that I saw with him not any pass Pro reps from him that I saw most of it was just straight up running back stuff which it's cool that he can do that and I think he'll mix in I like to see some of the fullback stuff from him maybe we get a look at some of that next week because I do think like if you're considering him that fullback role that's going to one put like Irv Smith spot in Jeopardy because I think they were kind of using him in that agback role some as well um I would like to see some of that from Carson steel because then I feel like his roster spot will be an absolute lock but I never want to rule out the possibility that the chase are just super Lo loyal to some of these guys who've been a part of the run like Clyde Ard delir but yeah like I I agree like of the people that carried the ball the other night besides isaia beo he looked the best and um I you know I thought generic Prince looked all right um I thought that there were some good moments I think there's some growth there for him before he kind of looked like a guy who was just running to a spot and now he looks a little bit more like a guy running and reading what's happening in front of him there was a pretty good run he had on a long third down that they were just trying to get back some yardage but yes Carson steel I I also loved seeing short yardage goal to go we're gonna give this guy the ball and he's GNA get in and that was great and also good good sign there too Hunter NORAD and CJ Hansen ran for that play as well probably you know some future offensive line starters or role players another good sign there so was excited to see that um he has a pet alligator he's handsome he's got long flowing hair he looks like Fabio what more do you want from the man besides a jersey which is in the mail right I was gonna say dude literally Carson steel Jersey super like First Team all name team first of all Carson steel he's gonna have an incredible nickname if I had to bet $100 on whether or not he was going to make the roster 100% yes if we went like is he going to see significant playing time I might be a little bit more hesitant but dude he was just a baller like fullback we we haven't had a good fullback since Anthony Sherman um we haven't really used that like I form set where you really run power and you get that short yardage like dude imagine him and Pacho in the backfield in like a pistol look and it's Patrick Mahomes or it's cadarius Tony at quarterback and it's like hey poison you just you changed my dream a lot I was like okay okay okay imagine Canary's Tony in the in the back field at quarterback okay I'm out I'm out now nightmare but as a piece d as a chess piece that's why Andy re is so great he's like karus Tony run a route H I don't know but play quarterback for one play I will say Tony has a good AR I will say Kad Tony does have a good arm that was something that like he was a high school quarterback he's got a good arm um okay so uh Carson Steel stock up uh I'm going to go to one and I'll be interested to hear what you think about this since you did the film review on him for us today FAU I'm going stock down um I I have my concerns keep in mind I want to drape all this in the evaluation of this is what you get when you take Ed rushers in the 30s right George kofus and Felix anad uzama are a great perspective of Ed dressers drafted at that area you've got one who's been a really productive reliable instant impact starter and you've got another that was a red shirt and now is trending towards probably being a player at best this year this is very much how it goes drafting Edge players this late news flash Edge rushers are really important and the best ones go very early every year so when you win Super Bowls it's hard to find an impact addresser in the draft it's also hard to to pay them right they're very expensive so this is just what the Chiefs are going to have to do um this isn't to say that like the P the pick is a bust or that he stinks or won't be good but right now I think if you had the hope of your starting Edge players being George kofus and Fa this year that's not likely to be what's going to happen here um some of the things that I saw FAU was first off playing well into the third quarter which I don't necessarily think is a terrible thing because I do think that he just needs reps and he got some of those but I will say um I saw him get washed out in the Run game quite a bit which has always been a concern for him that's part of the limitation for him is like this guy's probably not a full three down player and To Be A Plus on the field and then also like getting locked up by tight ends at times um and with pass protection now I will say some nice hustle for him the the get off does look better which is good because it frankly couldn't have been much worse um but you know you saw the speed around the edge sometimes and I think he does have good hustle which when you have Chris Jones when you have George Kates Charles am minu if he's your fifth or sixth guy you feel really good about him the problem is he's a first round pick this is year two that's not really what you invested in so slight concern there it would not surprise me to see ju the Chiefs make a move at Edge before the season starts especially with the Charles minue injury you know Malik hering's probably a run down player Mike Dana is likely going to be slotted as the starter and play majority of the snaps um I thought the pass rush especially in the beginning of the game looked good considering there was no Chris Jones but yeah FAU stock down I just I just I'm not seeing a pathway this year where we're like wow 10 sacks I I don't think that we get a George kofus jump this year from him no no and we we talked about investment earlier when we talked about draft picks another thing that we need to consider is expectations what were the expectations for FAU coming into last season he was a developmental pass rusher he lacked some strength at the point of attack but he showed promise he showed some bend around the edge he had that cross chop that allowed him to get in the back field and he showed that he could be productive um he had what four sacks in a game um while he was playing for def yeah Big 12 def defensive player of the year like this is a guy that's highly productive but the system was very different yes yeah and I think it really sucks for him because I think that if we were in a 3 four and he got to play outside linebacker um and got to really stand up go like seven Tech all the way out past the tight end and just you know give basically have whatever he wanted you can go fast along the outside you can cut back in use a power move like if we were running a system like that where he didn't have to line up at the five which is head up on the tackle um then he would look so I I seriously believe that this is another case of c and not utilizing a player skill set he we're we're going to look at a few plays um I have two queued up that we're going to look for in our film analysis dude he's just getting worked by tight ends by tight ends a Jags backup tight end is washing him out in the Run game that cannot happen in a Steve Spagnola defense it just can't yeah I mean and one thing too like at K State a lot of time he was like lined up at the four the four eye where he's on the outside shoulder of the Guard um yeah that was that was part of the system there and I mean obviously that's just the difference in the size and the strength of the players but where he was so productive over the guard and the thought is hey get him get him out wide of the you know on the outside of the tackle shoulder and that that speed's gonna going to flash even more instead of having to use more of a power skill set so be interesting definitely some room for growth um let let's both do one more real quick stock up stock down and then let's get to this film since we've got some CS uh cut ups that we want to share I'll go over King MAA since that's who my film review was over um right now we're gonna go slight stock up um and I didn't want to do hold because that's kind of lame like Buy sell hold uh but stock up I thought that he looks like a pro I thought that he the things that you were concerned about from some of the other players that have played left tackle for the Chiefs I don't think those are going to be the things are the uh the weakness for him the movement skills the mirroring the vertical set I thought those all looked good I thought he looked fluid for a guy who hadn't played right left tackle for over a year since he was playing right tackle last year at BYU um I thought he looked good I thought the the the grip strength looked really good there's a snap that we'll show here that he gets his hands on Josh Josh Allen Josh Allen heinens I believe it's his name now but the grip strength looked good I I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw in such limited reps granted they are very limited reps we've got five snaps of him with the first team offense but that's without Joe tuny next to him too as well so I was very excited about what I saw I was also very excited to see the chase get him out of there very quickly especially whenever you consider W Morris is injured and wasn't playing in this game so that's a pretty good sign I feel I'm pretty encouraged by that so Kings SCH Matias stock up yeah I I would agree as well like as a person who had a lot of concerns coming into this season with his maturity on the field not off the field um and his technique basically the Baseline things you look for in an offensive lineman he looked pretty good I mean I I had to watch him a few times there were a few plays that I was looking at was like well you know could he have done the but he's so athletic like you know you run through all that stuff in your head I think he played fantastic I am more than comfortable saying he will be the left tackle starter and good for him I mean seriously it takes so much to go from where he was at the beginning of the offseason to where he is now and if that's any indication of the progress he's going to have over the next season over the next three four season Seasons then we might have an All-Star on our hands I mean he really really really improved and that's all you can ask of a a first round Talent yeah and to be clear for him to be successful we don't we don't need an all pro we don't need a pro bowl player we don't need a guy who's going to reset the left tackle Market in a few years contract wise just be nice to get top 15 top 10 left tackle play on a rookie deal right that that would be insanely valuable to this team um and really help they have not had that in a while I think you know Orlando Brown was probably close to that whenever they had him here probably closer to that top 15 top 10 level uh an impact run blocker not so much a pass blocker but you know I I it would be a huge win for them and give them some real long-term flexibility uh for roster construction uh Christian who's your last uh Riser or Faller Justin Ross a guy who another guy who I was fairly critical of going into this off season um dude you saw the play do we do we even need to talk about it I mean he was seriously insane like oh who's that guy uh Deandre Hopkins esque like catch toet tap along the sideline like we know he's not going to be DeAndre Hopkins but do we really know he's not going to be DeAndre Hopkins you know what I mean like he's just so athletic he's so tall he wins those 50-50 balls like dude why I love Hollywood Brown I think he's gonna be perfect in the offense if we see somebody take the majority of his snaps from the X and it's not Justin Ross I'm G to be a little disappointed I'm not going to lie to you well I was talking on the postgame show with Patrick that I I also think that the the way that Justin Ross was always going to make this roster is being one of the bigger bodies right I think he's probably even a little bit bigger than Rashid rice who's right now their biggest wide receiver which is kind of a statement on the Chiefs wide receiver room and how slight it is built but uh that was always going to be the path and now with the potential injury to Hollywood run I feel like it's even more likely that the Chiefs are keeping six or seven wide receivers because I don't think that they're going to be iring him or you know putting him on the pup because that timeline just doesn't quite line up so yeah I I do think that Justin Ross uh between you know we we've known that he's been able to High Point balls and and win at the catch point but for him too now it's like year two or three of being in an n on an NFL team he's played in actual NFL action I think that what you're hoping here is that he continues to look like one of the better players on the field against second and third stringers and then mixes in some with the first team um again we're setting the floor pretty low for him we're not expecting you know 3 400 yards and five or touchdowns we're talking 100 100 yards maybe 150 yards on the season but is he able to be an impact run blocker um play the X when Hollywood Brown is out win a few contested catch balls and then maybe you know have a touchdown or two I think that that that's possible and quite frankly I think he could have done that last year I think you know he kind of shot himself in the foot with the off the field issues that saw him be out for a decent chunk of the season and then at the end there the chiefs were just trying to streamline their offense as much as possible to run it through three or four players because I think having so many options the Richie James is of the world the skymore cadarius Tony's I think that was part of what ended up hurting them was how you know they were just they had so many guys running in and out that they needed to simplify that process so that that hurt Justin Ross as well but the talent is still there and also Health right like he you know has H had health issues historically he's got to stay healthy uh you are muted sir glad we got one in well well we might have lost Christian here uh he's talking but I can't hear him I'm not sure if he's muted or not um but as he's trying to work through those Tech issues uh last person I had that I wanted to go over real quick was Joshua Williams uh stock down on Joshua Williams for me part of this is is that Joshua Williams has had kind of a golden opportunity to fight for this second Corner Spot um I think that with the injury to jayen Watson with nazy Johnson coming back from an ACL injury there was a really good opportunity for him to come and win the second Corner job outright in fact Robert May is of the athletic they did a podcast on the athletic football show where they talked about some of their breakout players for the year Joshua Williams was one of Robert Ma's players because he just looked at him and the athleticism and the ability and what he's done so far and say hey well this is the next lerus seed this is the next charvarius War this is just what the Chiefs do but I don't really think he's grabbed hold of this opportunity I think you know we've seen the Chiefs consistently mix these players in and out of camp um at second corner right they they've tried nazy Johnson there they've tried Keith Taylor there a little bit they tried Kelvin Joseph there they're not really totally sold on the fact that the other outside corner is going to be who it is going to be so I thought in the game he you know was got a little grabby on a couple of people um I thought that there were some opportunities for him to really set himself apart there and just didn't he had that big catch with Brian Thomas Jr and I think that's a good example too of like what we could see if the things go wrong at Corner this year and it is last year you have Joshua Williams a guy who has some traits he was going up against third fourth fifth options in offenses it's going to look a lot different when he's not guarding Chris Conley in the Super Bowl and he's guarding Debo Samuel or Brandon auk Brian Thomas Jr big strong fast guy a rookie comes down with a big contested catch um against him so that was something that was just a little concerning hopefully that's not something that we see long term I also still am not totally opposed to the idea that they were on uh Watson and Williams on the outside and McDuffy on the inside some too I think that's where McDuffy is going to be his best we saw a little bit of that in the preseason game as well that um they were mixing them into the slot so it'll definitely be interesting to see how that goes and what they do at the corner position I don't think that they make a move I know some people speculated like oh maybe they need to bring in another Corner not sure that that's what's going to happen here I think they have the bodies and I think that they will probably try to give Nazi Johnson opportunity it's also worth noting both nazy Johnson Jaylen Watson and Kirby Joseph all did not play in this game I can't remember Kelvin or Kirby I think it's Kelvin Joseph the second round pick that was with the Cowboys for some time all those guys missed time due to injury as long as well as Chris Jones and Derrick NY so some big impact players on that defense uh will definitely help the overall product there going forward so we will see how that looks but now we're going to go ahead and we're still missing Christian hopefully he'll come back here soon looks like we're just having some tech issues we're going to go ahead and go to our film review so all 22 dropped the other day Chris and I went ahead and took some time to go through this film um Christian has some clips of Xavier worthy we're going to wait and see if maybe throw an audible here to producer Richard uh we're gonna go to the Kingsley Su montea film here okay cool there it is so uh first thing very first Kingsley gets five snaps here with the first team offense not a ton that we're going to be able to tell from five snaps just being realistic here we we're not going to be able to say yes this is a left tackle of the future but some good things here one of the things I was really nice about looking at Kings Su Matti is he's running up against Josh Allen one of the best pass rushers in the league 17 and a half sacks for him last year um and we get a good look of su Maia who by the way never gets any help here um in all five of these clips there's no chips there's no uh you know no h tight end or Y tight end next to him that's help a chipping he's pretty much on an island for almost all of this Christian welcome back can we hear you uh I hope so can you okay cool yes we can hear you cool we went ahead and jump to the film review I'm going to go over this Kings Su Mata so uh this play here that if we can go back Richard to the first play so this is uh the first play is run action um and I think this is a good opportunity just to kind of get rid of some nerves for him again again he's working against a really good pass rusher in Josh Allen but he does a nice job with his uh mirring to protect right like he's mirring Josh Allen's moves um and you can see kind of while they are moving that pocket for him still looks pretty good nice vertical set I thought that was a good first rep to just kind of get him moving and and get his feet wet as far as it goes so next we go to the second play and the second play is going to be his first true pass set and I think this is probably his worst rep here if you can see he gets pretty lungy there I think he tries to grab with his left arm um but when he gets grabby he leans at there and he almost loses up the arc here we'll see it right there yep so there there's where he's reaching Mahomes still gets the ball out pretty quickly that's one of the benefits that he's going to have is he has a quarterback who gets rid of the ball quickly but I think timing that up a little bit better would have helped uh obviously Allen's predominantly a speed rusher so that's like one of the issues but even here when he's losing the the speed and the foot speed and the mirroring ability still shows and it looks a lot better if you lose when you have the athleticism to recover and that's one of the things too like Orlando Brown and some of the guys that we've had at left tackle Donovan Smith they haven't had the ability to recover like that so I was encouraged by that we'll go to the next play here this is a run play here uh this probably the best Run play they have Mike cendo is going to pull here really nice pull from him but one of the things I like to hear about Su mat he stays engaged on this block here and kind of helps Pacho get hit that cut back Lane I don't think that there was something incredible here from suam Mata but good to see him that he stays engaged and um finishes up that block there so that way that that hole opens up good rep from him there runs on the field finishes the play with Trey Smith good sign as well um and then shout out big Mike cendo also keep in mind this is with Mike cendo not Jo tuni next to him so some encouraging signs there going forward um we'll go on to the next play here this is his best pass set this is third down he's all alone or I'm sorry this next one here uh this one is another run play Joan Taylor gets washed out here um he really should have you know finished this block that's why this play gets blown up here again nothing super Monumental here from Kingsley would have liked to see him be able to finish on balance a little bit here he's trying to finish that block and gets a little off balance there at the end but again nothing here that's super egregious or scary uh just just kind of a neutral play a lot of times we get caught up and is every play G to be a win or a loss this is just a neutral um we'll go to the next play Here Again notice there is no uh no tight ends on his side of the field he's all on an island by himself this is definitely his best rep of the day um he's he does a good job of staying vertical in his set but when it comes time he delivers to strike well and gets a solid shot on the edge rusher this is not Josh Allen by the way so a little bit context there but yeah this looks really good again looks fluid I like what I see Christian what do you think yeah like I said dude he has progressed so much like you would see some of his pass sets and and this last one is really indicative of how far he's come like you see him drop back into his his pass set he stays he doesn't engage too quickly he throws that jab right there gets a hold of him and you know remains contact throughout the rep like that's exactly what you're looking for in a pass set and again yeah he does have the benefit of having Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback and getting rid of that ball quickly um that might not be good enough in some some uh for some teams but for the Chiefs it's perfect and I I love where he's going I love where he's headed um just an absolute star man this is this gives me like a lot of of Hope and I think reasonable hope that he can be a legit player in the NFL like he he has the talent we've seen it we've seen that he can progress like this is exactly what you want to see if you're a a Kingsley Su MAA skeptic or you really had questions about him this confirmation Andy Reid Brett Beach know how to pick players and something I I you know I was trying to highlight there I got a little wordy there trying to narrate this I had my evaluation on the other screen but there you're not seeing chips right you're not seeing um chips from the running back you're not seeing H or Y tight ends line up on his side he's pretty much doing this all by himself so really like what I saw here very encouraging if this is where the start point is you feel pretty encouraged by it um we'll definitely get a better look at him when he probably plays a full quarter next time hopefully he's got Joe tuni next to him too by getting that um getting that like you know veteran presence next to him an all pro left guard but very excited very excited about the footwork I think that looks a lot better this is a guy remember only 2011 true pass sets last year at BYU because of the RPO scheme no rpos in this right this is all either true drop back or true Run game um doing some Gap and some power so really excited about where this is for King Matia uh great start point and I did forget to mention since I got a little flustrated because Christian got off don't ever leave me again Christian I got scared um do my best bud we will do our best for those of us who are Audio Only I realize that this is also an audio and a video medium so if you are an audio only I know uh we will do our best to try to narrate what is happening here um we will try to let you know you know formations and those type of things and try to keep it engaging for you as well but just a reminder the best way to consume this product is through YouTube um make sure you're following along or you can watch in social media you can watch on Facebook or Twitter um all those places maybe you want to listen to audio only then follow up later with the Clips or you can head over to my timeline you can see all the kings luu mtia Clips the Arrowhead Addict retweeted account retweeted it as well all right Christian let's get to Xavier worthy yeah so this first play that I have was the first real play that we uh oh this is the first play of the entire game so you see Xavier worthy he's in that right slot so he's playing the z um Z's typically will move pre- snap to get like a running start you see Tyreek Hill do that a lot and the Dolphins the Dolphins use that a lot actually um but you see him he moves towards the back the line or he goes towards the quarterback then Sprints back out uh this is like an indicator type of play where you go hey is this guy manned up is he you know what what's the defense doing right here so they do that this is where we're going to see him play uh a majority of the time is going to be that zroll and this is where he really shows off his speed so he Sprints he you know looks like linebacker manned up it's actually the safety he attacks the safety's leverage and goes right past him I mean they're they're playing a one high so he kind of has a little bit of backup there but if this is Patrick Mahomes and he learns to bend this route out like that's a touchdown that's 10 times out of 10 Patrick Mahomes is throwing that towards the numbers um just far enough that you know Xavier is the Worthy is the only guy that can reach it like watch him flip that DB's hips like that's truly when you're you're looking at film for wide receivers um you look to see if they can flip hips attack their leverage and then you know create some separation like that's it has to grab him to to keep him from going past him and something I really like about this clip too this is the one snap with Hollywood Brown they're running to basically the same area of the field watch the stress that it puts on the the single high safety at that point right because we've got one safety that's running stride for stride with worthy the other guy who's on the left hash if you look at him like what what's he supposed to do you've got speed coming at when when Hollywood Brown breaks in there is supposed to break in and and you know try to cover the quarter of the field that Hollywood Brown is running to or does he have to stay on his heels in case Hollywood Brown turns that into a stretch route so I really you know I really like both of those things um I think this is a great first look and again you see speed when it's respected it commands it commands attention from the defense obviously they're going to you know show indicator if they're in man or Zone um and this time the actually the corner that ran with Xavier worthy actually blitzes from the slot but yeah pretty exciting stuff here good for first route and yeah you see the speed and and when it hits it hits yeah so I'm ready for our next clip whenever we we have that available as well um so this next one he's playing slot on the left side sort of the same exact role zroll he's not any pre- snap movement just straight up him versus a DB him versus the defense and this is again where you say hey Jags DBS what are we doing are we watching film you know who that guy is right he ran the fastest 40 of all time um you might want to start backpedaling as as soon as he jumps off the ball you have to respect the SE the speed this DB does not he does not he says I got help over the top my you see the safety all the way back there at the back of the screen he's sprinting backwards that can only help you so much when your DB doesn't help you out in that intermediate like hook to curl over there like right there if he throws the ball right as soon as he makes contact with that DB that's a first down and it might be a touchdown um we know Xavier Worthy is Shifty I I like our chances if if I'm Andy Reid I'm saying Pat throw that ball right there drop it in and Xavier worthy in the open field one-on-one versus safety we'll take it we'll take that all day long attack attack attack and this is without Hollywood Brown this is like basically our second string wide receivers there are a few guys in there that are are uh are going to get real reps but like this is him this is the defense is focused on stopping him they're playing deep on that side of the field with the safety they have three guys over there in zone like this is stop Xavier worthy it's it's a one rep I'm counting it as a win if I'm if I'm scouting him for the next game like that's a win he can win against Zone he can win against man just has to get the ball to him unfortunately that offensive line you know not exactly holding up under pressure um he who is that Carson Wentz has to get the ball out really really fast um I mean starting o that's probably a touchdown good sign good sign yeah the second team offensive line um it was an adventure quickly for sure for sure oh my god dude watching that game I watched that game a little bit late I wasn't able to like actually you know catch it while it was going I was helping my buddy retile his floors um and so I came back and I'm like all right let's take a look at this offensive line dep it's like oh man we better hope that W comes back and he's you know developmentally progressed because this offensive line the the depth is just not there I understand it's the Jags they always have a good D line that's shaky that's shaky I was scared for Carson out there yeah slight eyebrow raise to the fact that Norad Hunter NORAD played exclusively guard that cendo was the guy who's mixed it in at Center I think that tells you probably where they think they are with Creed Humphrey and his extension meaning they're pretty optimistic because I think if they were planning on moving on from Creed NORAD would be working a lot at Center where they where you know he played predominantly in college uh so interesting there good good sign to see I think you know that tells you they're pretty optimistic about Creed Humphrey extension purely speculation but just something that jumped out to me okay cool what do you have next for us Christian uh next is the FAU stuff that I have okay all right so FAU straight up on this tight end at the bottom right of the off or the defensive line you're G to see the the struggles he has against Power he's going one-on-one with a tight end that Gap is his responsibility and he gets washed down I I understand you know when we're watching this I also have another view uh straight up on the defensive line so we can we can get that one as well but um like you see him over here he's straight up with that tight end we can't get wash down anytime you have backside responsibilities we're in nickel we've got he or Christensen and oh who is that is that uh that looks like who's that that one from the Chargers the linebacker we have number 43 it's not tranquil no I think it's tranquil got Dion Bush uh and uh Jaden Hicks on the field I'm trying remember who 48 is anyway I think it's Jack Cochran is that Jack C okay yeah Cochran and Christensen are on the field for our linebackers we're in nickel here this you have what say that say that again Nick Jones was lined up in their slot there yeah yeah so when you have that look we're in nickel we're playing to prevent the pass they run a pass or they run a run play we have to be assignment sound as defensive lineman you have to be assignment sound the linebackers are at a dis disadvantage you you hear people talk about their x amount of people in the Box it's like it's a light box so we run on it that's a light box the defensive line has to win their gaps win their assignments you can't get beat one-on-one with a tight end you just can't that's if if that happens um and you're an outside linebacker that's playing in a 34 like a little worried because you know you're supposed to be a lot stronger than that but when you're 4-3 like that that can't happen this cannot happen in a normal game yeah and and we talk sometimes with Defenders uh you know pass rush win pass rush neutral pass rush loss run loss run win this is probably closer to a run neutral or run loss for FAU because he is able to still get a Sho string tackle here but you see that lane open up here if that was going to be a rundown win for him he's shedding that block and is there to to meet his right like he's there ready to seal that backside and there you see him just get washed out credit to him for having the agility to still make that Sho string tackle because if not that might be a much bigger game than already was it's probably close to about a 10 yard gain but you picked the right clip man I watched this one live on the broadcast and they jumped out to me me I was like oh there's F FAU getting washed out by a tight end so nice work on you for finding this clip yeah thank you thank you lot of lot of research going into this all right so for the next one uh I picked another run play um we saw saw I think the statistic came out it was 19% Rush win rate uh against the pass for FAU uh that's not fantastic when you're going against number two and number three offensive linemen this is uh more indicative of his ability to again get kind of washed out by another tight end he's he's one-on-one with this guy you see him he's at the top of the defensive line one-on-one versus tight end beat your man win win that rep he gets washed out he gets turned um I think part of this is not necessarily that he's weak or he's he's too weak to take on a tight end I think a lot of it is is he's still struggling with the mental side of playing defensive end in a Steve Spagnola scheme like this you have backside responsibility anytime you're the defensive end and the run is going the opposite direction if you don't re if it's you if you don't recognize that it's coming your direction you think you have to come inside and that's kind of what he does you see he gets inside leverage on this guy and he's really fighting to to secure that b Gap or the the C Gap excuse me um and make it so that guy can't cut back well the plays running right at him like he he gets washed he gets in position to get get washed and makes it easy for the tight end like this is something that as weird it weird as it is to say like gives me some encouragement where it's like Hey listen we didn't recognize the play um we were in a bad position we got beat we can teach you to be in the right position we can teach you to recognize you know what's coming and again that gives me a little bit of hope at least that he's going to turn into like at least a serviceable defensive end for the Steve Spagnola defense like but if if this continues to happen and and the main reason why I put it up here it's like this is you will not see any time on the field I don't care if you're a first round pick I don't care if you're a fourth round pick in Steve spagnolo's defense defensive ends have to be able to hold up against the run and he just cannot or or does not on this play in particular yeah and I I think you know right now the pathway for him is when you have him as like maybe the outside guy you kick Dana on the inside or you kick am Mino on the inside and it's an obvious pass down right that's where you're probably getting like reps from him and that's that's just not the pathway that you want to see for a first round pick there's still time to develop there's still time for growth I do think that you know play strength is one of the things that they've talked about and also rushing with a plan you know we're not looking at Rush snap right now but that's something that Steve SPO has been very upfront and obvious about in press conferences sometimes coaches they they you know bring attention to things to their players and press conferences um it's something that stands out and you know the get off does look a little bit better uh than it was before but yeah there's definitely some room for growth here um maybe he takes another St step in the next couple of preseason games but it wouldn't surprise me if we see him playing plenty of snaps in preseason game three which is traditionally a role that only backups are doing and yeah you just hope that you know the story isn't totally written on him as a player you got to remember you know at one point during the 2022 preseason we all thought that Colin Saunders was going to be cut and he was a pretty impactful starter that year and a draft pick that was in the last year of his contract so Player Development it's not necessarily vertical or linear um but it's one of those things that we need to see growth and I do think there's some growth here but not what we hoped for well and I love that you brought up how much he played in this past preseason game because if this is the problem that he he just isn't confident in recognizing defenses but he can get good position and he is strong enough to to play against the run then he needs to see as many snaps as he possibly can like you you talked about you know him playing a whole bunch in this upcoming game like the third team fourth team like that may be exactly what he needs V and and Steve spagnolo thought he could be when we brought him in like this could be exactly what the doctor ordered for him we saw George caraus struggled some play strength plays in his first preseason now he flashed some some pass rush especially against the Bears he was an absolute monster but like this this is what we need to see um and if it's a problem that can be fixed it will be fixed with more playing time so don't be alarmed if he's playing you know 60% of the defensive snaps on on uh Saturday I think is when we play again yeah for sure awesome well great work Christian was that was that the last clip you had yeah that was it awesome well great work I'm glad you found those clips I'm glad we were able to kind of go over that and we want to shout out Jaylen Butler who sent a $5 Super Chat and said awesome to see live film breakdown on the AA podcast for the first time ever good news for you Jaylen this is a goal that we have to be showing live film hopefully almost every week during the regular season definitely going to be doing it through the draft season as we go through the prospects here that's a big part of what our goal is here with the intangibles we will be at the mercy of the schedule in NFL plus there a little bit too for instance if the Chiefs are playing on Monday Night Football we're probably not going to be breaking down all 22 from a game the week prior we'll probably be a little bit more pregame Centric but as the games Flow as the schedule flows as the all 22 drops we'll be trying to bring you this type of content more consistently and looking at it we can't promise they're always going to be right I'm not going to sit here and debate like oh is this Trey left or Trey right or is this you know we're not experts I'm not going to pretend to be on the field with Andy Reid or Matt naggie but we can look at players and see what they're doing and it's also just great to learn more about these players and what they're doing and I for those of you that don't know Christian's a high school football coach he's a wide receiver coach um hopefully you don't mind me outing you there um but uh he knows what he's doing so it's good to have these have this perspective and we'll be trying to bring this content to you guys all season long and you know that's why you're going to keep it locked in here Arrowhead adct because we've got a great show every single day of the week we've got lots of great talent you can hear Josh Brisco you can hear sterl Holmes you can hear Patrick Allen you can hear Matt veram you can hear all those guys every day here on the Arrowhead Addict Channel that's why you want to like you want to subscribe our videos follow us on your favorite podcast or leave a festar review and join our premium Discord get in those fantasy football leagues hang out with Sterling hang out with Josh Brisco in the chat and talk ball with us Christian anything else from you today before we log off for the day just excited to be back man football's being played like the Chiefs look good I'm just loving it man this is exactly the reason we started this podcast was to enjoy football together that's I'm enjoying it I hope you are too absolutely well as season ramp up we'll hope you'll keep it locked in here thank you so much for joining us thank you to producer Richard who always does an excellent job especially with our film review super appreciative of the great work that he does and as always for the intangibles it is go Chiefs
