Ep. 420 - UFC Fight Night Brady vs Burns | Silva vs Andrade | Garcia vs Nelson | Durden vs Schnell

Gilbert Burns vs. Sean Brady hey what is going on everybody Welcome to upkick MMA episode 420 I am Brendan and I'm back all right UFC Fight Night Burns vers Brady we going to break down that fight all state I was on vacation with the family had an amazing time out in the Tetons um and uh like Tahoe and other stuff uh driving out there with the family camping out under the stars and in the weather it was blessed uh I I really had a lot of fun so um let's get into the fights enough about me no one came here to listen to me talk about my my vacation all right Brady taking on burns all right so this one this one was important for the division so just Gilbert Burns and uh Brady both have a loss to the champion uh in balal but I think burn stepped up on short notice and Brady had a really off performance against Balan Muhammad like that's not an excuse right like he lost it's I legit lost bah looked freaking fantastic in that fight but either one of them winning this uh puts them immediately into uh title Contender status okay that immediately puts them into a place where all they need is one win or possibly someone falls out and scheduling lines up and they can get a title shot after this win so this is an incredibly important fight I know it probably didn't get the hype that a lot of the other fights have around it uh both with u you know a couple weeks ago with the big UFC uh and then 306 coming up I believe so let's get into the fight it is um not the most interesting as far as technical stuff all the time and there was a lot of clinch work in this one um overall this card was not too bad to watch I would throw it on in the background there were some exciting moments exciting fights this one um if you're I I would even actively watch this one even if you missed it there's some really fun stuff on there and we'll talk about those fights when we get to them so this fight was one of those right it had exciting moments it kind of encapsulated the entire card there's some exciting moment some fun back and forth and then a lot of you know uh setup and uh downtime in between those moments so low kicks from Brady as he avoids the hooks coming back at him with a clean lead hook of his own his boxing looked real good Burns was taken the front foot but his overextension is leaving him open and Brady is Brady was even using his jab in the first round he he did not he did not go back to the jab that much throughout the entire fight but that first round he's he was uh stabbing the jab out there it looked great I don't know why he stopped using that much uh Burns went for the taked down but they get right back up and the clinch Brady is landing some really tight tight Hooks and they separate and then they get right back into the clinch again and because Brady punch his way back in into the clinch and that's a lot of what happened in this fight uh he went for the takedown they get right back up Brady won this round for sure Burns just wasn't able to mount much offense and you can see it the Striking numbers like kind of tell the whole story here 23 to6 for Shawn Brady he had a lot of control time in this round two minutes and 15 seconds of pretty much clinch time there was no real grappling on the ground got right back up so second round here Burns counters kick with a huge right hand and Brady goes right for the clinch after that that might have been the most significant shot that burns landed in the entire fight we do not know the extent uh to which Brady was affected by that because he immediately got in the clinch but I I suspect that if Burns was able to follow up that was his moment he wasn't able to do it Brady smartly gets in there Brady with some clean hands making burn shell up as the round goes on he got his wits back about him Burns trying to turn it up with 30 seconds left but Brady was the one finding the openings 33 to8 for striking numbers the second round in favor of Brady yet again 20 to 18 going to a third round here lots of clinch work in this fight with Brady and controlling most of it both guys Landing Landing their right hand but they get back to the clinch Burns Landing a nasty elbow and unloading with 115 left if he was saving his energy to win these rounds he needs to keep that kind of thing up but he just wasn't able to do it he got the taked down they get right back up Brady lands some of his own then Brady picks him up and slams him and kind of undoes Everything Burns just did honestly this was probably the closest round but I still gave it to Brady he outstruck him 19 to 17 the damage was relatively even like a lot of that stuff that burns landed like I said it gets outweighed by the stuff that Brady did the takedown that Burns Burns landed Brady landed a better takedown that actually damaged him in the process there was not a lot of control time on the ground and then the clinch was the control time again and he out out clinched him he outstruck him with total strike 77 to 29 it's just the way it was man burns looks like he's older and put it that way and Brady looks like he's an upand Comer and he looks really good um I I don't think Burns looked bad I don't want to I don't want to dismer um dismer him like that I think he looked good I just think Brady looked better Brady kicks him in the nuts and then immediately after they stop they get back to action Burns throws the laziest front kick right into his nuts and then he's like he puts his hands on his face he's like oh he was so embarrassed oh man that was really funny I'm not a fan of people get being in pain from getting kicked in the nuts that's not what I'm saying it was funny cuz it was like slap said comedy oh man that was a good moment uh clinching clinching they get back into the clinch again more clinch Brady with the pressure again getting the Tak down Burns worked his way out but then he gets back he gets taken back down again I have Brady up 40 to striking numbers here 24 to7 I have Brady up 4036 going into the last round and then here it is Burns Landing a hard right hand and then Brady coming back with two big left hands and then Burns kicks him in the nuts yet again even though they got warned for uh they both got warned for their nut shots by Herb Dean a point deduction was not not awarded meaning warnings are pointless I cannot stand this I don't want to harp on it this video is going to go long because this fight went the distance so let's keep moving um Brady gets the takedown and the clinch to end the fight great performance for Brady awesome per like just his output was fantastic 31 to9 for striking numbers here um and then I wrote who gave the one round to Burns because Chrisley and Brian Miner both gave it 5045 like I did David letherby gave that third round to Burns um um initially I was more surprised by the uh by the one stray round that went to Burns but in retrospect looking at the stats I understand why he did it I disagree with it that's good fight uh great fight I really I I really think that um Brady uh Brady called out Ian ma shado Gary I think that's the fight to make I think um if that doesn't happen Brady's right in that in position I mean let's look at let's look at this again and then we'll move on I know I'm sorry but the like I said at the top of this this is an important fight it's important for the division so we obviously have balam Muhammad who just beat Leon Edwards Leon Edwards is not getting an immediate tit title shot Camaro Usman um was talked about as getting a title shot so um kind of giving him one for taking that short notice fight against Hamot and I believe that he was winning he could have won that fight against hamzat had there been another like even one more round I think he could have won that fight so in a five round title fight type of deal think he beats Hamot I think shavkat has the legitimate argument for a title shot so I think if they want to do it Legacy wise for Usman sure make rock manov wait a little bit longer I'm not a big fan of that I think um shav Cott earned it um Jack Dela Melina he's an obvious like one win and he is in position uh Burn's going to drop down Shawn Brady's going to jump up um yeah unfortunately Brady's going to need another win I I I was thinking like I said though if schedules happen to line up and everybody falls out or says no to something I think Brady uh steps in there I think Brady does have a a good style to beat bolal I think that bolal can be beaten we've seen it happen he's just on something right now and he's so good and I don't mean that in a nefarious way I mean that like he's just on one like he's just on his game he he looked great against Edwards he put it all together and I think he's going to do uh I think he's going to do great as the champion he just needs to be given an opportunity to fight just a little bit more all right Jess gandra taking on uh Jessica Andrade vs. Natalia Silva Natalia Silva this fight was a striking battle this is one of those moments where or not one of those moments one of these fights where you look on it on paper and you look at the Striking numbers right like 33 to 24 37 to 11 lots of striking attempts you see that there's no ground game almost right no takedowns pretty much and it's just well kind of like there's very little ground uh Ground Control throughout en entire fight and you're like wow this must have been a banger H kind of the thing is when the same thing happens round by round you kind of can predict how the round's going to go unless there's a crazy moment and that crazy moment just never occurred um Silva was trying to throw low kicks quick Jabs to keep her way uh keep uh keep andr away andr kept pressuring in Silva was able to strike fast Dart in and out but if she slows down it's going to be bad for right Andra is looking to get into that tight uh that tight range but her height and reach are giving her problems right she's just too short she doesn't have the reach obviously she knows this she's trying to work her way in and Silva's doing a good job of range management even though she's skirting the cage Silva was staying fast with three hit combos ending with high kicks Andra finally Landing a good hard hard shot inside as the round went on and Silva slowed slightly andr started to make her moves she got better uh better range she started to land more it's going to be it was I wrote down it would be interesting if this trend continued as the fight went on it actually went back uh the opposite direction so the Striking numbers in the first round are actually the closest 33 to 24 in favor of Silva clearly her round second round andr keeping the pressure on more of the same from the first round but that's it that's all I got man halfway through the round Sil was able to stay out in front with the volume catching on Dr in the eye for a second and she thought she got poked but she obviously got punched Sila slowing down a bit right at the end of the round again but she did way more I mean she landed even more than she did in the first round 37 to 11 bigger differential I have up 2018 uh you know Andra needs a finish here third round Silva is keeping the Striking coming Andra just can't stay in range long enough and she's chasing her around leaving herself open for shots and Silva's not slowing down and then right at theend end of the round you know again Silva slows down a little bit but now she's legit 47 to 15 she's good man uh Silva's had her issues in the past as far as like her like it looks like she um you know wasn't in the most interesting fights and this kind of thing and whatever else and like there's ways to beat her but you know piecing up on Dr like that and staying on the outside I think she looked really good moving on all right uh Steve Garcia taking on Steve Garcia vs. Kyle Nelson Kyle Nelson so Kyle Nelson missing weight significantly here by two and a half pounds not good not cool hate it I really hate it I do not like weight misses uh I'm not going to go on another di tribe about that uh Garcia slips on a kick and Nelson gets right to his back um spends a minute in uh or nearly no two minutes and 10 seconds on his back like that and then Garcia spins inside gets out of that back control gets on top starts unloading on him landed some ground and pound and then Kyle Nelson never gets up uh he he works to his hips uh scoots his hips back sits up against the fence and then takes a nasty elbow and Garcia gets the finish so excellent finish by him I think that uh dude Garcia's what five wins in a row now yeah five wins in a row good stuff Chase Hooper who is I mean back in the day yes 2022 that's not the chase Hooper of 2023 or 24 so we'll see we'll see um that does age well though uh nerd and Becca that's a good win mosa m m zel Posta great win Sun Wu Choy great win and Kyle Nelson fantastic win you know these are all grindy type of guys good Fighters and he managed to beat all of them I think you know he puts together a couple more and we're talking about top five obviously he's going to have to beat some guys in the top 10 but you know what I'm saying like that's what he's setting himself up for here um fun fight to watch Cody Durden vs. Matt Schnell too all right Cody Duran versus Matt Chanel boy boy boy was this fun to watch okay so interesting interesting fight it had sloppy moments there was some really nice striking from both guys but really from matchell he looked a lot cleaner Duran was just trying to get in his face both G guys landing hard right hands immediately to start the fight Duran is right in his face throwing nasty stuff Schell throws right back it could be whoever just lands clean I thought someone was going to go down just from a clean right hand uh that did not happen Chanel rolling with the punches and throwing back tight like it he looked smooth uh he's still taking shots though I mean he's still getting hit is just he's rolling with them really well Schnell has landed a few hard low kicks and they look to affect Duran so that this was the biggest thing that kind of bugged me about Chanel's performance in this was the low kicks were there he landed two or three of them in this first round no no sorry no sorry he landed two or three of them up to this point and they both they really did affect Duran Duran did not like it I think those leg kicks were there for him he landed five in the first five in the first round and I think had he gone to that a little bit more and taken his time with that kind of stuff as Duran was trying to pressure in I think he could have could have impaired his movement significantly super close round really close I want to say Duran because of the pressure it felt even on the damage 40 to 33 in favor of uh Schnell for striking numbers I felt that Duran landed bigger shots so it was so close it was so close it really was it like if you gave this first round to Schell totally understand if you see how the judges had it yeah the judges were split on it um it's not that big of a deal it it go because here the second round starts Schnell shoots a takedown Duran locks him up in the front headlock and immediately goes Ninja choke just locks up that figure four on the head and freaking ninja chokes him um and he has to tap Schnell you could tell afterwards he was just incredibly upset with himself um getting stuck in that position he just the way he was going I felt like this fight was going to be really hey who's got the cardio to stay like this is dordan going to start using his wrestling all the questions that I had going forward that that I thought would you know I was looking for answers for in the second round immediately get thrown out the window cuz never once did I think like oh he's going to throw or schell's going to go for a takedown that's not what I had in mind that was ridiculous so um great win for Duran stepping up on one week's notice uh in like this is really one of those ones where Schnell kind of like Schnell made a big error Duran capitalized on he can't you can't fall thir and for how he won it uh he won it legit it's just Schell clearly screwed up Yanal Ashmouz vs. Trevor Peek all right yanal asmo versus Trevor Peak you always love a Trevor Peak fight because you know it's going to be chaos you know it's not going to be Technical and it's going to be fun um Peak stalking and trying to swing big ashm is using that jab to back him up Peak finding the body with that hard right hand then the jab Peak over swings ashm Ducks under gets right into side control they get back up with a minute 10 left um not much damage on the ground mind you ashm did not do much with that position ashm really wants to take down again Peak rips him up up control in this round FR Mo there was no damage FR Mo look at the Striking numbers here 16 to4 in favor of peak look at the ground strikes for ashm zero total strikes were closer being 18 to 12 but that like there was no no damage the 2 minutes and 30 seconds of control time for Ashu mean nothing in this round I I really believe that Peak um Peak should have won this round uh I I will look at the scorecards to see if anybody saw it that way but this is like one of those ones damage is first and he got more damage Peak right uh in the second round here Peak right back in with those big hooked pressuring he should go uppercut and body shot all right we know that ashm wants to take down I know you shouldn't lead with an uppercut because it leaves you open for so many counters but you know uh lead um throw in straights to the body which were there throw in hooks to the body are there throw in uppercuts mixing that kind of stuff in so much better cuz it leaves your hands down ready for the counter uh the counter to the takedown he did a little bit of that but he's still overswinging and he overs swung got taken down again he got right back up then down then back up and then he was just in a lot of grappling exchanges and ashm landed some damage this round the damage the Striking numbers were closer right actually no they were the same differential uh 22 to uh 22 to 10 so 12 uh 12 strike differential just like the first round but I do feel like ashm landed more strikes in this round he did to more total strikes 36 to 23 it made the difference for me I thought he did enough damage to make it even and obviously had more control time 2 minutes and 41 seconds of it so I have it 1919 going in the third round some people were saying two to one I I don't think so so asmo swinging big and Peak returns so I'm like okay cool now they're going to bang it out let's see what happens Peak finding the mark with a hard right hand shaking ashm for just a second and ashmos finally goes to the taked down gets it but you know the control time they go back up they Peak the and they both start swinging again but then he gets taken down three minutes control time for ashm uh ashm just outsmarted Peak essentially made him feel like he we were going to bang it out and uh getting some uh uh getting a brawl here and then he would go for a taked down and shut him down and that's what happened right outstruck uh out struck him 28 to 17 this last round so uh clearly Ashu is fight I had him winning 29 and 28 let's look at the scorecards just to see if they screwed Peak on all three scorecards okay so um all right okay this is the end um if you don't want to stay for this I understand I appreciate you for stopping by I'm going to talk about the scorecard because there's a really bad one in here and we need to talk about it um but that's going to be all the breakdowns right so yeah thank you guys so much for stopping janio kamio he's your standard doofus given that first round to ashm because he held them longer this is not an this is not a good scorecard okay this is not a good scorecard janito kamijo is not a good refer not a good judge uh Chris Lee is not a good judge and David leby has had his problems as well so I understand that humans make mistakes but when you make more when you make so many mistakes in a position where you are causing people money this is not it's with with no repercussions and no explanation necessary uh you're running into a situation where like are we really going to keep allowing this to happen with this level of what I would consider incompetence at this point you've had plenty of time uh years of judging experience for these guys and they're still [ __ ] this stuff up so janich kamijo has not he doesn't even have the worst scorecard here it's a bad scorecard that first round was Peaks we go back and look at it I already made my argument if you disagree with me let me know in the comments down below why not saying ashm didn't have his moments not saying he didn't have control but he did not do enough damage to outweigh all the damage that Peak did in that first round second round third round ashm absolutely no problems there genro kamio [ __ ] up that first round round absolutely Chris Lee uh has the same scorecard I do that's not I am not the um the all- knowing uh Genius of scoring here this does not mean just because you agree with me you are right that's not what I'm saying I'm saying based off of what I saw and the scoring criteria Chris Lee has what the most defensible scorecard here I think it is you can defend that first round easily by saying Peak won it and you can defend the next two rounds but um saying ashm won it I think it was pretty clear uh Chris Lee has the correct scorecard here now David Lethe what the [ __ ] was he watching okay he gives the first round to ashm which I've already explained why I disagree with but if you want to go old school and be a genro kamro style Guy where you're just like oh he's H he held him down the whole time uh or two minutes uh uh that's that outweighs everything he's he's clearly winning this fight even though he wasn't whatever um so you get you want to give ashm that first round you can like I said you can defend it I wholeheartedly disagree with you second round absolutely asash Mo that's a good one David leby was paying attention did a good job he gave the third round to Trevor Peak okay so just to show that I am not bias in this right I'm not I don't have a I don't have a horse in this race I already explained why I think that Trevor Peak should have that first round right so you can see that I am in favor of peak getting around Trevor Peak did not win this third round it was the only round in which ashu's out struck Peak and if you want to go strike for strike blow for blow and you want to go look at damage and who did more damage we can do that but ashm did more damage in this round and you're like okay well maybe Peak had nope you can stop right there cuz ashm did everything better in this round better grappling more striking more damage more control time overall there is no moment where you can say Peak won this round he landed one good shot and ashm shook it off that was the best shot that he landed yes they did some damage to each other but they both landed at the same time when they were doing that stuff and ashmus got the better of those got the better of the exchanges by going into the grappling there is no argument you can make to say David leabe should be score could should be judging fights based off this card this is the opposite of what happened it's [ __ ] ridiculous okay anyway that's my little uh I I this is the first time I'm seeing the scorecards right like I I I I tell everybody I I like to look at them fresh with you guys so you can have my like immediate reaction with it don't need to go and analyze everything because I do that while I'm watching the fights then we we react to the scorecards together so let me know what you guys thought about that scorecard if you made it this far subscribe to the channel
