Mark and esta since yeah the I don't know that seem it seems deliberate at this point yeah that Applause is for you [Music] guys hello everybody and welcome to den of geek Studio at San Diego Comic-Con we are here with the lovely and quite frankly gregarious folks behind uh AMC's Mayfair witches um what does gregarious me Mark and esta since yeah the I don't know that seem it seems deliberate at this point yeah that Applause is for you guys I wanted to talk about the adaptation of season 1 and season 2 in particular because like Interview with the Vampire your cousins at AMC you have the benefit of kind of having the whole multiple books going in and you borrow bits from here from there what did you look at from book two in the series Lasher for going into season two of Mayfair witches as it was in the first season there is like just an abundance of riches in the book it's a massive book so many stories there's a whole chapter that's you know Julian mayfair's story there are chapters for so many of the characters so you're just kind of diving in I was think it's like walking into you know Aladdin's cave or something you're like I'll take that Jewel and that Jewel and that Jewel so we have so many pieces of the book but we've put them together as a narrative that's an adventure following Rowan um because that's sort of the mission of our show is to make it it Rowan's story we're enriched by so many of the different sections in the book but obviously we we couldn't do it all there's just so much there you know an rice has given us so many riches that we've allowed I think there's so much to build from and I think in in an adaptation you never want to be literal you want to be true to the spirit and I think what Michelle Ashford have done is taken it and made it very much their own Alexander I wanted to ask you about magic every story comes along with kind of its own Logic for magic and how things work did Esa and Mark kind of break things down for you about what how Rowan's Powers work and are you excited to get into more healing in season 2 I'm excited to explore Rowan's Powers I wouldn't say that it was broken down I actually think that there's kind of a um I think that the main theme isn't even how she's dealing with her powers or how she's using them but it's um how she's dealing with the idea of power itself and that was really discussed what do you do if you're given all this power and you're given all this money and all this all these things do you think that you're going to do a good good things with them or do you think you're going to you know use them for your own devices and that's really exciting to explore in the season Tunga I wanted to ask you uh as one I believe in this Immortal Universe I think the first member of the Talam Masa that we get to meet do you feel that adds kind of like an added layer of uh responsibility and importance for your character particularly now that the world is opening up and there's a tala maska show just sitting out there for you to swoop in on I'm I'm hoping right that's a question question you heard it he says he knows where to find me yeah absolutely I I I think it was a it's a great honor and privilege to kind of like be the first character to be seen that represents the Talam Masa but I think more so taking it from the outside and then kind of like swooping in as we are in second season just what we're capable of doing and where that's going to go especially with the second season is we start to open up and see the world of the Talam Masa through the lens of Mayfair and I think you know obviously with the new one coming up it'll you know expand that a bit more so I'm very excited uh what we are doing in the show with the Talon Masa and it definitely bolds well for cyprian's character cuz you see a lot of growth um from the outside into the inside as well as his character from a perspective of who he is and what he's trying to achieve so I think those are the two Journeys that we see uh for cyprian's character in season 2 and Mark put him on the show he Mark I have a deal memo right here come on wasn't so much of a question just is a Harry I wanted to say you're looking very spry for someone who was just turned into stone um what can you tell us about uh your season 2 Ark if you have an arc thank God that they got me out of the statue uh that did happen thank you for that Esa gave me some lines to learn some things to do some things to concentrate on I have to say the arc for courland is extraordinary this year I can't go into why or how but something happens during the course of the second season that is going to blow people's minds who are kland fans so I can't say what it is but it's a big big thing and I have to I'm you know I always preface these things with saying how grateful I am to be working with this group of people I mean amazing talented producers writers and actors I mean I just uh what a great privilege it has been to do this and uh and hopefully courland will live on to uh to do more creepy things and thank God I'm Immortal that gives me jobs security okay you know what let's I wanted to ask our newbies here uh Ben and Alyssa what can you tell us about your characters and particularly their connection to to Rowan here nothing okay and that's that I mine's the easiest because uh I don't have to mess with any of the Witchcraft I'm uh I'm an ex um just a Charming ex that wanders back into uh Rowan's life for better and For Worse right yes thank you what's great about I think for me what was kind of great Alex I really appreciate the your help on this um what's been great for me is that I think the audience and uh Rowan last year were sort of introduced to this world taken from our world our normal regular terrestrial world to this kind of witchy craziness I think watching it everybody got comfortable with it and and we've all sort of accepted it as as as a reality and so for me it was a really great job because I got to come and be that all over again this year and and both me as a character um and as a Viewpoint for the audience but also me as Ben like I didn't have I could wander in and be like wow this is crazy so wait explain what what do you you you can fly you know like I'm learning all of this stuff both in real time as a character and as a person which made my job easy uh but I don't know it was a fun Dynamic I think for the I Alex and I just did romcoms the entire time it was fun every scene I had with Ben was like this break from like all of the to a certain extent there'd be like this little like romantic interlude I'd come in like for rehearsal and they'd be like wiping blood off her face and she'd be like okay oh thank God you're here that means we have that means we get to make out so we got to have some really you know it um you get to watch the Journey of the two characters in their relationship yeah I think both of us are kind of a Viewpoint of the audience a little bit and like I think Moira is the one who I mean the way that esta had sort of pitched her to me which I really liked um and sort of the way that I wrap my brain around the mind reading thing is that she's literally she sees through the like that's literally and figuratively like there has to be somebody in the Mayfair family who sees that it's insane and as insane as the audience is seeing and has the ability to critique it you know so that's kind of what she's doing we never made out but we had some great scenes No I loved our Dynamic it's we and we found some really fun stuff our Dynamic yeah I think it was like that was a lot of the experience on the show especially towards the beginning of it was just me and Alex kind of figuring out what that relationship is and it's like a fun little camaraderie that forms after a while well that's all we have time for we never quite figured out what gregarious means but we had I hope we had some fun but
