hey there Health enthusiasts have you ever thought about the tinest creatures causing the biggest scares well today we're diving into a story that's got entire towns in the US shutting down parks and playgrounds From Dusk Till Dawn why because of a rare but deadly mosquito born virus called Eastern ecoin and sephtis or E trust me you'll want to stick around for this one because knowing how to protect yourself could be a lifesaver the situation in Massachusetts so let's zoom in on Plymouth a coastal town in Massachusetts as of August 23rd they've put an early curfew on Parks playgrounds and Fields no one's allowed out after dark and they're serious about it this all started after a man in his 80s from Worcester County Massachusetts was diagnosed with the on August 16th it's the first case in the state since 2020 that's when everyone's ears worked up because when he comes knocking it's no joke what is he now you might be wondering what exactly is this virus well Eastern ecoin and sephtis or E is as rare as it is deadly since it was first identified in Massachusetts back in 1938 there have been just over 115 cases that's not a lot but when e shows up it's dangerous the Massachusetts Department of Public Health dph says that the fatality rate in humans can be anywhere from 33% to a staggering 70% and the symptoms their brutal think fever headache vomiting seizures and the most serious one incilius which is the swelling of the brain some people go into a coma within a week of showing symptoms scary right how is EE detected and treated the tricky part there's no vaccine and no specific treatment for e doctors usually diagnose it through symptoms and by testing spinal fluid or blood if they find the virus or its antibodies it's time to act fast unfortunately treatment mostly involves managing symptoms and making the patient as comfortable as possible that's why prevention is key prevention and what you can do speaking of prevention here's what you can do to keep those pesky mosquitoes at Bay first off try to stay indoors during Peak mosquito hours usually From Dusk to Dawn if you have to be outside wear long sleeves and pants and don't forget the bug spray the EPA recommends repellants with certain ingredients that work best so make sure you're using the right stuff also take a look around your home and get rid of any standing water mosquitoes love that stuff so dump out buckets tires and anything else holding water especially after it rains other areas at risk but it's not just Plymouth that's on high alert towns like Douglas Oxford Sutton and Webster and Massachusetts have raised their e risk level to critical and other towns like Carver Dudley Middleboro Northbridge and Ox Bridge have joined Plymouth and raising their risk level to high and just when you thought it couldn't get worse there's also concern about another mosquito born virus West Nile it's been detected in mosquitoes across the US and as of August 20th there have been 216 cases in 33 States this year alone conclusion the high note so what's the takeaway here it's simple knowledge is Power by staying informed and taking a few extra precautions you can protect yourself and your loved ones from these rare but serious threats and hey the more we spread the word the safer everyone becomes thanks for tuning in to Healthy Living trends if you found this video helpful make sure to hit that like button subscribe for more health tips and share this video with someone who might need to hear it remember staying safe is a team effort and we've got your back catch you in the next video and until then stay healthy stay safe
