Aaron Boone on Anthony Volpe leaving the game early, loss to Angels

Aaron Boone on Anthony Vulpi Aaron Anthony vulp vulpi exited early with with the foot issue after filing the ball off of his foot just what's his what's the update on that yeah um x-ray is negative um and he's pretty good spirits right now so we'll just treating it as a contusion right now um so hopefully hopefully everything's all right and back out there just based on the initial dialogue you had with him do you expect him in the lineup tomorrow you think it might need a couple days um I I don't know we'll see I mean I think he's going to be fine Aaron Boone on the weather weather's been brutal the last two days conditions clearly not great out there how much do you think that affected Nester yeah a little bit at times out there I think it did um there was that one inning where it really got bad you know at different portions um probably affected a couple pitches but um you know I mean tough conditions both teams um you know just not a great night for us the basis clearing double there in the fifth inning woto tried to make a play on that ball would you have liked to have seen him no we're up against it there he almost gets there you know I mean if he plays it it's it's two runs so you know at that point just trying to make a play and get off the field and no so I had no issue with that who else Gary Bill Aaron you guys there was a lot of Aaron Boone on rotation talk about you guys exploring the starting pitching Market before the trade deadline you didn't come away with anything um just how confident and are you right now in the state of the rotation yeah very um you know tonight wasn't our night I actually thought Nester threw the ball okay like he wasn't giving up a ton of hard contact had a hard time putting guys away tonight is you know they they were spoiling pitches he'd get to two strikes couldn't finish guys off um so you know you know our guys are our guys are more than capable and um you know hand the ball over to Carlos tomorrow he's throwing the ball really well well and you know more help on the way too with with guys coming from injury so um we have everything we need I'm Meredith oh Bill I'm sorry Bill I was going to ask um were you concerned about uh uh Cortez because his last seven starts he hasn't really given you length per se yeah I'm just wondering yeah um I like I I think there's kind of a story throughout it like there was a few starts there there wasn't great a couple where you know he didn't have that extra gear on his heater felt like he got that last time in Philly felt like today you know you look up the profile was good they good they did a good job of putting the ball in play and again I don't think they you know they didn't Sting the ball a ton against them but especially with two strikes they were able to kind of touch it and put it in play and and dump some balls out there that just created traffic and and some problems for him so um you know uh I feel like physically um the ball's coming out and and the stuff's there um just comes down to that next level of execution and then like tonight when you getting those two strikes situations putting guys away what made Tyler Anderson Anderson so good today yeah I thought he was really good you know we faced him in Anaheim um and I felt like we we you know he held us down a little bit out in Anaheim too but I thought we had a lot of really good at bats that night where we hit the ball hard against them I think we walked a bunch against them we just couldn't punch through tonight he was on uh that change up was real um you know I thought you know you're watching from the side that change up was excellent had enough life and and was getting the ball the fast ball you know cutting it at times to good spots um you know I thought Anderson was really on top of this game tonight Chris to the Aaron Boone on starting rotation left what do you make of the collective struggles your starting rotation has had over the past couple of months now yeah I mean we've we've definitely you know hit some rough patches along the way but but also I feel like we're getting some guys in a good spot too so um you know obviously we've you know Garrett coming back and that's you know been getting them you know I I feel like he got to that good point where it was a few good ones in a row then had the you know where he's under the weather and and you know not not feeling great so had had the what was the met one but then I thought bounced back in his last time and threw the ball well Carlos is throwing the ball well I don't feel like nesters all that far off it it just comes down to finishing off execution stro we got to get rolling a little bit and and Lis I feel like's in a good spot so you know we we have the guys to go out there it's just you know getting a few guys going and then get into that next level of execution
