Ivan Demidov's KHL debut was CRAZY…

ladies and gentlemen we just witnessed Ivon demidov's debut in the KHL this season and it was crazy Not only was the game Crazy being a 54 overtime route it also was Ivon ne's first game in the KHL this season and he played pretty fantastic and we got a lot to talk about here but as we go through Ivon demidov's first KHL game of the season presented by bet us make sure you guys watch till the end because we're going to be going through the complete Scouting Report we're going to be going through the best and the worst moments and everything to see how demov could do in the future so make love Ivon demidov he was somebody the I rank second overall in my rankings back in the 2024 draft process and ultimately when fifth overall to Montreal the exact type of franchise offensive face that I thought they needed and that was after watching so much of him last year and seeing the dynamic type of presence he was able to provide in the MHL there were some struggles early on in the season but then in that second half he absolutely tore things up and you can see he ended with 60 points in 30 regular season games and 28 points in 17 games pure electricity but there were some question marks with demad and some people were questioning how much of a pro player he was going to be he was an MHL player for most of his draft Year campaign and when he did play in the KHL even with limited playing time he wasn't all too effective I think a lot of this was due to a lack of experience but I think also physically he wasn't quite at the level where he was going to be dominating at the pro level I think there were some things holding him back especially ear earlier on the season in terms of overall play that might have made it two where the coaches didn't trust him too much but now we fast forward to today and even though there were some concerns out there from people that he might be in the MHL again for this year at least to start out he immediately won a job with SK St Petersburg in the KHL one of the hardest jobs to win in the entire league as an 18-year-old he was already on the roster and already as an opening night starter and would officially play his first game today we get the official confirmation on where demidov would play in the lineup for his first game of the season and you can see from sk's Twitter account the third line would end up being rendel of course that evus netv and Ivon demov on the right wing and as my best butt Alex points out it is the best line and was the best line for SK in their first game of the season and as you can see here it didn't take too long for Ivon demidov to make an impact with his first KHL points scored on the power play just seven minutes into the game already getting on the board it's not a highlight real play or anything but he makes the smart decisions here circling around the faceof dot he puts it back to his D partner then switches and has a give and go opens up a nice little lane for the D to come in and snipe it nothing insane but a couple of smart little plays there that add to the goal and created it in the end also you're probably not the only one that notice just how insanely big that guy that scored the goal is Stan fovi a former Flames draft pick in the seventh round bellan 6'9 245 pound d a if deav ever gets into trouble or gets hit by a big player volovski is GNA come in and save the day but the fact that within the first seven minutes of this first KHL game of the season demidov is already a point per game in the KHL it's pretty good news but in this first period demidov wasn't done making an impact you can see just a few minutes later as well after that first goal demov is again again out there and making a difference with his speed you can see him circling around getting the puck off the boards to himself and almost scores this was within an inch of going past the goalie to make it two but just barely stays out but you got to appreciate the skill on display here by demov already the confidence and the way he's able to move right to the net I mean that's exactly what what you want to see out of him but in demidov's first period of the Season he's making plays getting an assist rushing up the ice already controlling play and the rest of the first period you also saw that line that he had with ket up and really working well off him I think that's going to be a really interesting pair going forward if those two stick who Nets is an exceptional player to be with he was really controlling play besides a couple of weird penalties here and there but deod do already with the veteran leadership there is going to have a lot to work with in the future now you also saw in this game demod displaying his incredible anticipation of play you have this segment in the second period where that ketov demov line is establishing pressure trying to make things happen and you can see demidov swoop in here and steal the puck away instantly get it in front of the Nets a good heads up play by the D in front of here to negate that chance but almost another clean assist in this game for him I also really love this play later in the third period where demad do was starting to show his support play and I think that's something that was a big growth over the second half of last year really being more involved defensively and getting the puck out making sure he can use that speed and he definitely used that in this game you can see this play right here how it was developing deav is able to see it recognize it swoop in and become a support player for the defenseman close to the corner and he comes out of it uses his body well too to protect the puck and get it out just a simple play to establish pressure here get into the offensive zone but those simple plays were something that were kind of missing when demad was in the KHL last year playing against Pros playing against top end competition but he started to learn that slowly but surely and has gotten much better at it as it at it as we see him in the middle six in the KHL already doing well it's a simple plays like that that I think we're kind of missing for demov early in the season last year and were kind of issues once he was playing at the pro level but we see him slowly but surely getting better at it more efficient quicker with his decision- making and that's really grown his game in so many ways you have the offensive potential there the small details in demidov's game that have been improving have improved fast but as we touched upon before I think one of the big improvements that we've seen in demov game is the Improvement physically you can see he's beefed up this offseason added way more muscle all throughout and I think that's added a bigger element to his game obviously you have the growth in his actual frame but the muscle and the Puck protection have also been huge you see it on this face off how he's able to win that battle pretty cleanly using his separation speed along the wall to get it back to his partner here and further along in this shift you start to see the play develop you see him recognizing the play and the puck going behind the net and trying to attack on the D try to use his body as much as possible he isn't as successful as you'd want but again it's about the mindset it's about how much he's improved I don't think deav would have been making those type of players or even implying that type of pressure before but now he's starting to do that more and more efficiently I mean you see how hard deav comes in from the wall here try to attack and he ends up making a little bit of a scoring chance in front of the net the speed and the intensity that we're starting to see out of demidov's game is just truly refreshing you have him on this play rushing for the puck in the corner successfully getting it back to his D and as the D shoots it off demov is able to quickly scoop up the puck and just go raging through the middle of the ice but I think that shows the physical improvements in demidov's game that he's able to accomplish something like that and not get stripped off the puck immediately he's able to get in front of that able to create some chaos and that created a scoring chance later as well now let's not to say that everything in this game for demidov was perfect I think there were a couple moments that were a little bit shaky you had this moments later where the putt gets dumped into his own Zone and you kind of see just a lack of communication or really much effort to go into the corner I think he probably assumed that his D would get to the puck but as the D is unsuccessful at getting it away he just swerves it around the boards and it goes right back to the the corner where they're able to get a shot on goal and create some havoc in front not all of that chaos is demidov's fault but I would have liked to see a little bit more patience on that play or at least not immediately swerving it around the boards where it was picked up pretty cleanly but the fact that that was really the only major mistake I would say in a full game for demod do in his first KHL game of the season I think is pretty incredible really did not see much rust but the fact that he was able to put on so much physical pressure throughout the game able to show himself with the speed and the skill that he has that amazing patented demidov's skill level already at the KH level is great news up until this point we really hadn't seen demidov assert his skill level and his overall play in the KHL level yet but in the first game of the year he's already doing it and I think that is such good news for the rest of this year and potentially a career year for demidov in Russia and we're going to get into the rest of the year what it could look like for demov what his season end totals could be how many points he'll reach in the KHL but first I want to talk about season could look like when you put up the stats together as well from this first game you already start with one primary assist for one point three shots on goal one hit one takeaway and 14 minutes and 2 seconds of time on ice now that was pretty low considering ska and the deployment they had which is very strange to me because there was very few mistakes from demov and I think he was absolutely one of their best players already but I do think in time demov will get more trust I don't think he's going to be on that first line or be the main guy anytime soon but I think starting on the third line already is starting with aeni kusnetsov as a centerman is a pretty great start it already shows that SK has confidence has belief in him he's not an extra forward he's not get to scratch he's not playing two minutes of time on Ice he is getting a bulk of minutes here even if it's not as much as he probably should get hey it's a good start at least I think when we look towards the season end what it could look like especially with players like MAV mov and how much they've been able to produce I think you could see demov around that range I think the big thing though is just the opportunity that demov will get I think in mkv's case he went to a team that could immediately make him the top end guy offensively in demidov situation that's just not going to be happening the minutes they're already going to be in up by a lot of great veterans there on the ska team that are going to get opportunities and that's just the situation that deav have to deal with but I think it's pretty likely to see deav around 30 points or so by the end of this season at least if he continues the trajectory playing as well as he does and I think most importantly keeps getting ice time even if he's on that middle six it's still valuable experience to play against Pro players like this be against that physical opposition that to me I think is the biggest thing that demob really needed to Showcase really needed to prove himself with was being able to play against that type of opposition and just getting that opportunity getting that experience is going to be invaluable for him so I wouldn't fret Habs fans if he's not put up 50 60 points by the end of the season I think demov is still going to be sick no matter what he still is going to be showing what he's shown so far with the skill set and the improvements in his physical play and that's what you want to see you want to see him improve in that overall game get bigger stronger better against physical opposition and that's exactly what deav is doing no matter what I think if he still continues to play like this no matter what points he ends up getting it's a success now this was SK St Petersburg season ending totals last year and if it does stay around the same level then I think a player like Deb could probably be around the eight range probably around the Arsenic gritsuk situation where he's around 30 35 points or so I mean gritsuk is a fantastic underated Prospect he also impressed me a ton in this first game for skn whenever I've watched them in the past but I think around that 8 to 10 range in scoring I think is pretty understandable especially considering I think the lack of ice temp to start might hold him back a little bit towards season end but I could absolutely see demed up having a very successful very solid KHL season but I think the most important thing besides the points is the growth in his game getting more comfortable adjusting to that opposition and so far he's already doing that and around that 34 35 Point range it's nothing to scoff at sure is at meop level no but I think you got to take the context into consideration here still starting out of a point ain't too bad and hopefully the rest of the season is as successful as this first game was now as the habitant also talks about with the records for D+ ones in the KHL basically the seasons right after a player is drafted these are the best seasons in the current area you got mavi meob at 41 points in 49 games tolvan 36 points in 49 games and then ketov and capriso 32 and 27 respectively I think by the time the season is over you could see him around that ketov range his linemate right now around 32 35 points that to me would not surprise me whatsoever but still even if he's in that range even if he's top five I think that's successful for him considering his age considering what he was last year as mostly an an MHL player he wasn't playing in the KHL fulltime to make that type of adjustment is extremely difficult the MHL is not a good League whatsoever but if demov is able to get in this list then that just continues to show just how bright the H's future is I'd love to know down below what you guys think though on your predictions for demidov's Point totals I'm going to say 35 points by the season end but I don't know of how well he played in this last game if he gets more ice time that's really the main thing for him if he gets more opportunities in the top six and I think he could be even above that maybe around the 40 Point range but as of right now I'm going to play get safe with how the K shell works with how they reward their veterans more I think the ice time is going to stay pretty similar to what it was today but we'll have to wait and see I hope I'm proved wrong
