DodgerHeads Postgame: Walker Buehler trending up, Dodgers lineup thriving & pitcher injury updates

e [Applause] magic Dodgers and one at all High Fly ball into right field she is gone he stck him out two balls at a strike to count on Taylor re fires swinging a drive deep left down this his way back W up [Music] what's going on everyone my name is Scott geerman senior writer Dodger blue.com I'm here with my good buddy managing editor dodger blue Blake Williams how we doing man doing pretty good we had a nice game today it was not one of those three and a half hour games and it even went to Extra Innings and of course the Dodgers pulled out a win so nice day nice game it's good what's up chat great to have you in guys welcome welcome welcome unbelievable ending to that game against the angels Dodgers are riding Dodgers are Riding High good stretch here last week we've seen a lot of good ball I love the emotion I love the emotion that the Dodgers showed there mookie bets we'll get all into that uh chat we're going to let you trickle in I want to see a ton of good thoughts tonight I know after stuff we got a lot of boxes checked after tonight we've seen this team show up with runners in scoring position a lot of these role playing guys mookie bets big time in a two spot yep mookie for president Dave I see you bro uh welcome in guys Blake initial takeaways from tonight man I mean I think the main thing for me was Walker buer he looked encouraging the lineup it wasn't great but they got the job done so they came through when it mattered the bullpen had another solid night but I think Walker buer was the main thing for me because that's now three starts in a row where he's trending up and it's encouraging yeah absolutely yeah yeah Yi Walker ber definitely we're going to talk about that uh offense especially uh they went quiet for a bit but it's great to them battle in Extra Innings uh we're going to do a quick recap just because there was not a whole lot offense Blake said keep it short and sweet and I promise you there wasn't a lot of offense Until the End uh bu made his 12 start of the year and I will say uh after tonight this was definitely one where there were some good there were some bad but it's the first time uh he's made it through the fifth inning there uh was that a big takeaway from you as well yeah I think so I mean I think both of us have been pretty hard on berer this year and critical when he's been bad but with the last few starts he's made he's trending up I think it's impossible to say he's not he allowed two homers there which gonna happen he made some mistakes there but overall he looked pretty sharp his swing and Miss stuff was back trending up like he looked like he could actually be actually be a competent pitcher moving forward rather than someone we're worried about every time he takes the mound and expecting a loss absolutely yeah guys yeah had a RICO ey I got you man Bullpen was Dean guys we'll get into that absolutely they were you know spotless good stuff here uh Walker beer opens up the first inning has a 20 pitch first inning gets two punch outs there uh he gives up a leadoff Homer to Logan ohappy uh couple Innings later 438 foot shot strikes out the side following that Dodgers finally get on the board uh in the third lead off walk from Miguel roas driven in by sh Otani with his seventh triple of the year uh to tie of the game mookie bets singles on the first pitch following first pitch aggressive mookie bets that's something that I've on a ton this year and I know a lot of people in chat we've talked about how we you know prior to injury uh and coming back from that I really wanted to see mooki Betts uh and how he really rebounded and going in and being aggressive because there were a lot of times that Mookie Betts would get deep into counts and he would kind of get in between and miss you know a meatball and that did not happen tonight uh both teams go quiet until ber gives up his second solo shot of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning uh he gets out of the fifth and again he may he finishes that fifth inning uh and I thought that was big for him him because considering where the rotation is at uh and the possibility of Walker ber becoming a piece to the team going forward uh you know like like looking ahead towards the playoffs there uh he had a 30 31% called strike whiff rate tonight lot of success on that knuckle curve ball it's been a big trend for him that's those percentages have been up these last few starts here he's kind of laid off that slider almost completely here um 12 of 21 first pitch strikes and that's been big for him because when he gets behind and counts I'm not going to say he falls off but it's a he's one of those guys that when he gets really behind I either he lacks the stuff to stay in at bats here or it's just the sequencing and you know he doesn't have that F power fastball stuff anymore how what do you make of 12 of 21 first pitch strikes yeah that's important for him the last few starts that's something berer has talked about a lot where he's been falling behind hitters and pretty much every count for the first eight or nine starts he made and he kept saying like I to start getting ahead of hitters putting them in a hole instead of trying to work myself back into a good count I have to make them the ones chasing and in the hole there so it's been important for him that's something Dave Roberts mentioned it a lot too like same thing with Bobby Miller that's been a struggle for him as well that happens when you don't have the command and your control just isn't there so it's been huge for buer it's it makes a world of difference for any pitcher getting ahead 01 versus getting behind 10 so that's been one of the biggest keys for him and he seems to have found stuff that's working for him he said absolutely feel better and everything so it does seem more sustainable than we've kind of seen or just Randomness to it yeah absolutely uh going into the Taylor Ward Homer his second one uh he retired 10 of 11 hitters uh just like we spoke about earlier there was some good there was some bad uh but it was definitely a step in the right direction when you looking that you're facing an angels offense here uh they're playing with they've got nothing to lose so you can take it for what it is uh it's a plus for Walker ber uh you pull the positive from it and again the negatives have been what they are he's giving up some hard contact in in in the form of home runs so you're gonna have to find a way to limit that um just you know Logan ohappy he's been a big Boomer bus guy this year uh Taylor Ward got some pop it is what it is he gave up two it's the same theme chat you've noticed it same thing he has not been the reason they've lost games Walker beer positive on the night Dodgers Bullpen Daniel Hudson Evan Phillips Blake trinon Michael Copic Ryan braer Picture Perfect five innings a continued theme for this you know Dodgers Bullpen talk about it man the bullpen has been great I was a little upset mook's Homer was a three-run homer because they've had 12 pitchers record a save this year which is their franchise record tied for their franchise record and braer hasn't had a save so if Muki didn't hit a three-run homer and it he just drove in two runs would have set braer up for the save and they would have had a new franchise record for with 13 pitchers in the year recording a save so a little disappointing that didn't come through but yeah the bullpen the bullpen has been great recently it's been a strength of the team we've seen the starter struggle a lot and the bullpen has picked them up especially in that Diamondback series it's just been huge for their success this dude's history Chason Chad it's great to have you in 700 welcome welcome welcome take a second for us uh we appreciate all you guys tuning in to Dodger blue Blake and I certainly do uh like subscribe ring the notification Bill uh stick around a while we've got a lot to talk about tonight and then things get interesting going ahead to Extra Innings uh but right before that Ben Joyce you know right-handed reliever uh this is a guy coming straight off of elbow surgery uh this past year uncorks 15.5 M hour fast ball Hawaiian Kira absolutely boosted I mean you know it read a 106 and when I read that I sat back and I was like damn what in the world was that and he painted it so I felt terrible and I believe that was on you know my Mr Tom Edmond right yeah felt terrible for him so that that alone seeing it yeah 105 seems impossible I see that in chat like that was that's something I don't care if what you're what team you're a fan of who you're a fan of that's just unbelievable stuff you wonder how the you know the human body can actually you know make that happen yeah Joyce was sitting 104 it seemed like throughout the entirety of the night there at I think he went down to 102 a few times there and then came out 106 and then he added in the slider that was at 86 like how do you hit a baseball up there like I know a lot of times as fans we like to complain about the hitters had a bad night and things aren't going well but then you watch Ben Joyce pitch and you're reminded of just how hard it is to hit a baseball and what they're doing on a nightly basis hitting the ball at all is like a miracle pretty much so it was impressive to see what Ben Choice was doing out there I think it was yeah third fastest pitch of all time behind aralis Chapman he had 105.8 and 105.7 and Joyce I think Sarah put it out there so shout out to her she said you know that's 105.5 is the fastest strikeout pitch in the pitch tracking era since 2008 so yes I saw some people saying can he pitch that he throws but can he pitch yes Ben Joyce can pitch he's been unbelievable he's got you saw the you know he started out working backwards uh to Tommy Edmund there snap snapping off a few breaking balls and then just uncor 105 just unbelievable stuff there um and when Michael copc came out for the bottom of the ninth he goes 99 and I was like okay come on ramp it up Mike you gotta you gotta match this you got to do something but it it was good stuff so going into Extra Innings here it got very interesting because this is stuff that we've harped on uh situational baseball uh coming up when the moment matters guys are the runners in scoring position uh M moves off Tom leads off moving Tommy Edmond over on a ground to the right side uh top of the 10th um Miguel roas comes up swings for his pitch drives in the go-ahead Run uh they talked about it on the broadcast since Miguel roas has come off the angelist he's nine for 23 with runners in scoring position uh I tweeted out you know going into the Diamondback series that with Miguel roas against right-handed pitching this is someone who I'm very confident to get Bat on Ball he's got an incredibly low strikeout rate there he's going to do whatever he can uh migy Rose becoming a guy he's becoming a guy you can lean on right yeah for sure I mean year he's been impressing us and surprising us that I don't think anyone really expected this from him when you talked about Miguel roas coming into the season I was like yeah he's a really good Defender he'll probably have like a 70 weighted runs graded plus but he's been League average or above League average slightly for the entire year and adding in his defense there at shortstop he's a really valuable player for the team and the Dodgers have needed it and he's just come through pretty much every time you need him to he's taking professional at bats putting the bat on the ball just really quality plate approaches and great stuff we've seen from Ras all year yeah and then you know stuff continues Ron Washington next hitter you know opts to walk shotani uh sorry two batters later after Gavin Lux uh goes to Muki bets who again swings first pitch crushes a hanging slider for an absolute nuclear warhead uh Dodges up 62 Ryan brazer shs shuts the door night night Halos they will not be lighting that baby up thoughts Blake still disappointed they didn't get the save there wanted to see that record but yeah it was a tough day for the Dodgers offense they had 10 strikeouts versus Reed dimmer which they don't strike out a ton like that so was surprising but they're still able to come through and get the win and that's all you can really ask for you're not going to have your best offense every night they really turned it up in the Diamondback series and seemed like they scored 10 runs every night except for the loss so they've been playing really well and like they came through again today when they needed to that's pretty much all you can ask from an offense you can't expect 10 runs out every time and they still put up six in a day they were struggling I was I was very pleased with today you know I'm I'm very happy with what I saw from the team today Reed demmer's uh at times he's been good he's been he's been exactly what the Angels would like out of you know a budding Lefty arm uh he looked gross early in the game you know after he started going some run there big time swing and Miss uh I just had it pulled up here how many whiffs he had uh 18 swinging misses on the night so they weren't facing someone who did wasn't in a rhythm Reed dmer was locked in uh so I'm glad they hung on there big props to the bullpen for keeping the game where it's at uh chat real quick do us a favor type in you know who's the MVP who's the MVP from today I'm gonna get a lot of very you know very predictable answers here I'm gonna go with mie Betts Blake where are you lying at I think I'm going with migy r okay he was the one who kind of sparked their offense there and he had the game-winning hit Angels didn't score again the bottom of the 10 so that was the one that won them the game mooki gave them the breathing room but yeah I mean Miguel roas cominging through there kind of set the table for them I'm going mookie bets for a number of reasons and this stems back to a conversation that we were hit with a lot and we've actually been the two to actually talk about this about the Dodgers finding their way to having a little bit of not going to say grit but a little bit of little bit of something little bit of attitude and the reason why I'm bringing that up so much is because right now the Dodgers have the best record in Major League Baseball uh and so many people have been desperate to see them you know show that Moxy Show that attitude and Ron Washington opting to intentionally walk sh Otani to give Muki Betts a righty righty matchup he swings first pitch on a ridiculously center cut hanging slider and Muki Betts showed that he was disrespected he he talked like you could tell he was he wanted he didn't want to hold back but he did and Chad you can agree with me let me know if you saw that too because I saw you know that mooki Betts uh had a great deal of emotion there and he just for me that mvp stuff right there that former MVP stuff you know before he got hurt he was on track to be that guy and he's been kind of I'm not going to say slighted by the you know all the attention M like shotani has had but Muki bets in the two spot aggressive approach goes in the 10th inning there breaks the game open doesn't miss a hanger he was fired up I don't give a damn what the offense did prior that emotion there in the 10th inning showed me a ton yes laurore he was insulted and for me that just takes away so much from this game they slam the door walk away with the win seven and three in their last 10 games take two of three from Baltimore three of four from the Diamondbacks have this win tonight I'm I'm sorry Blake like I'm I'm loving what I saw I'm loving what I saw yeah it was definitely great I think mooki definitely has a good case for the MVP there he's probably the favorite I'm just trying to give a little love to migy row there because he also had a great night he scored the first run after taking a walk with otani's triple that drove him in and then of course Muki drove him in to put the Dodgers up so they both have a great case mook's probably gonna be the favorite in the chat I'm sure but yeah I mean the Dodgers have just been playing really well recently we we expected this to happen at some point we know they were in a tough stretch there for a bit while everyone was hurt and we just kept saying like have some patience they're going to come through they're going to get healthy and it feels like we're really seeing that from this team right now it seems like nothing can really go wrong for them unless their starter gets hurt in the second inning which yeah has happened unfortunately so yeah I mean they're clicking on pretty much all cylinders right now and they're going to be even better if they get glass now Yamamoto back here at some point so what we're seeing from you know this kind of gives us a little bit into to our you know segment here I want to get into uh with the big three at the right at the top there and we're going to kind of AD lid this a bit because I just want to really get your thoughts and kind of your feel and Chad please get involved here uh what we've seen from otani's been you know not you know he's chasing 5050 but he's doing it in ways that are actively benefiting the team and creating scoring opportunities uh and not playing selfish ball like mookie bets being aggressive here these RBI opportunities Freddy Freeman after that mental break Dave Roberts gave him another credit to Dave on that uh Freddy Freeman's been unbelievable uh what do you take away from the big three you know exceeding expectations and really showing what can they can do when they're all clicking at the same time kind of not sure they're exceeding expectations I'd push back on that a little I feel like they're however you want to say it man I don't however you want to say it yeah I mean it's fair either way but we've we expect so much from this group and they're putting it all together right now and I think it's three straight games now that they've all reached base consecutively in the game like this is what we expected from them and they're finally all healthy showing that they have this talent that they're going to carry the team and they're getting help from the bottom of the lineup which has been very important in this because we saw a lot early in the season even if they had some good games sometimes the team would still fail because they would get absolutely nothing from the bottom of the lineup but now you have a group one through nine that can all contribute on a nightly basis and there's not a deeper lineup in baseball it's it's going to be hard for any opposing team to beat the Dodgers lineup night in and night out with the way they're playing right now and yeah it does start with the top three in their lineup they're the Run producers they're the guys setting the table for everyone they're the guys you expect to come through in big moments and they're doing that so far they're being more aggressive they're taking pitches still and working counts and I think Freddy Freeman had that 12 pitch at bat today where it ended in a strikeout but anytime you have a 12 pitch at bat it's still a quality at bat there so even when they're not fully coming through they're still contributing in ways to help the team and it's been impressive yeah Jose kiata after that strike out of Freddy Freeman you could see in the emotion I know uh Eric haros on the broadcast was talking about they're playing like it's the biggest game of the year for them and I totally understand that mie Betts is Right credit to him at their you know prior to the season uh at Dodgers Fest he said every team is going to play you the toughest Jose kihar showed it uh that he's going to lay it all in the line and throw as hard as he can re you know scream and that was that was something that was odd it felt weird to me maybe I maybe it's just because you know where the Dodgers are at and where the angels are at but it just that felt a little felt a little weird felt a little weird to me we got a couple super chats to get back to here I'm not sure if you pulled this one up here but you know 300 great win I got to see 105 and a half mile hour fastball must have been crazy great win uh over the moon about it uh this is one of those where you just you know Dodgers should take care of business against a team like the Angels uh sure the offense was slow all the way towards Extra Innings uh but when the moment mattered uh they came up and they put an exclamation point it'd be one thing if they just won three to two but mooki Betts you know felt disrespected crushed The Hanger ball game you know yeah for sure I mean it's all you can ask for from them absolutely Godfrey great to see you man thanks for the super chat again guys anything you want to get off your chest bring up to us toss in those super chats Blake and I stop what we're doing Godfrey good to see you man migy just passing a baton to the rest of the offense love it we love it too uh he's going to get these opportunities for sure especially against lefties he's going to get them against righties uh and he's just shown that he's perfectly capable of facing right-handed pitching here with a stellar glove you know you're getting the consistency there um just real quick to touch on uh that rotation there between Miguel Roos and the sub perhaps with Kevin kerm and credit to him for beating out that play at second base because without that uh that play or That Swing From mooki Betts doesn't happen are you liking what you're seeing right now from Miguel roas on you know both sides I mean it's hard not to like what you've seen from him he's been a consistent player for them all season he stepped up when they needed him to he's expected to be a backup for the entire year and he's kind of got pushed into a starting rule just same thing happened last year but he's been a completely different player from what we saw last year and that's mainly due to his offense there so he's earning an extension I I think he has a team option next year for five million so I'm sure the Dodgers are going to pick that up and I know his first contract extension with the team surprised a lot of people but it's paying off for them big time absolutely yeah I mean considering where they're at getting production in you know every place up and down the lineup uh it can't it matter it they came to play when it mattered most and that's what I'm going to take away uh from today because on games like tonight when the offense goes into a lull uh you see tasar Hernandez go 0 for five three strikeouts Will Smith for four uh three strikeouts Tommy Edmond you know 0 for four three strikeouts there that's you need something you need someone to get Bat on Ball at some point in the game and I'm really happy that it was the guy who we've counted on uh to make that contact consistent contact so I'm very excited about that I see people talking up there about yoshinobu Yamamoto um we'll get into that in just a little bit but I want to give a quick uh second uh to tell everybody we appreciate you over 900 in here thanks for late stream uh Tuesday for Blake and I usually we're on Thursdays um how we feeling tonight by the way you doing okay doing pretty good it's different being here on a thday you on this is a Star Wars hat um kylo Ren vers Ray here so yeah Sith first Jedi I figured I'd go with the blue and the red because you know Dodger Angel made sense so we got the Rivalry hat going tonight Otani returned to Angel Stadium and I you know I didn't think they were going to do absolutely anything you could tell that ownership is not a fan of anything going on with this uh fans a lot of Angel fans jumped over and became Dodger fans I've seen because I personally know two of them uh what was that like tonight and show sh Otani returning to Angel Stadium regular season matchup I was a little surprised and disappointed by the reaction he got and the tribute the Angels did they basically just put up a cheaply made quickly put together graphic to welcome him back and it felt like a slight to him because this is guy who put everything he had into that team for six seasons one MVPs Rookie of the Year everything for them and they were like yeah I guess you're back here whatever the fans it was kind of a weak reaction especially with so many Dodger fans there you heard some booing in there too and then his next step at was booed quite a bit so like Dodger fans we've done a really good job of welcoming back former players like Cody Bellinger got a huge reception Trey Turner even got a reception when he came back and like he was nowhere near as valuable to the Dodgers as sh was to the angels we of course saw what they did with Justin Turner this year like it's a really special moment there and the angels have probably never had a better player than Otani I know trout is up there and he's had a better career to this point but like talking about the peak six years of Otani no one's ever going to top that for that team and they were like brushed it off they're still kind of salty about him going to the Dodgers but has to be Otani like said they didn't make him the offer that he was looking for they didn't match what the Dodgers did so like you can't be mad at him for that when the angels Don't Make Any attempt to keep you around like I don't know it just seemed like a very salty organization that clearly is always second fiddle to the Dodgers in Southern California and just more angels stuff that we expect from them go off Blake say how you feel man I mean you didn't say one bit of you know anything that was wrong man you know chat agrees with you for sure like there's a lot of saltiness coming from RD Moreno uh in how that all went down yeah David they're just Petty yeah they're just Petty I would you know I would be too if I was a fan I having to compete with the Dodgers OT Otani clearly wants to win at this point yeah somebody brought it up EK said this is the most meaningful game shani's played at this point in the year without having to like exert himself in every facet of the game like the dude played his hard out the angels went all in uh this past year was the end this last year had a crazy deadline gutted everything you know got rid of all those waiver or trade deadline Acquisitions put them on waivers stuff like that just a whole big mess Otani knew he was gone Otani knew that he was headed for you know a better situation somewhere where he can contend year in and year out uh it's just if I'm an angels fan I would be bummed but from a rational standpoint you have to understand otani's the ultimate competitor he's wanted to win year in and year out you saw it in the WBC for the angels to not really rise up to that offer don't you think they'd have to blow it away or do you think Otani would have you know accepted a matched offer no wrong answer here because who knows but do you think he would have accepted a matched offer from the angels I think he would have considered it I still think the Dodgers would have won out because he was looking for somewhere where he could win and I think he understood as well as every fan that the Angels aren't the place for that they've made some attempts to win but they haven't done anything serious about winning Arty Moreno is who he is we all know he's not going to be an owner that's goingon to go out there and like carry the team to wins he'll overpay old players and sign on for bad contracts but that's about it is like a way of bringing in more fans but he's not serious about winning he's never been willing to sell or trade pieces for few future in the years that they're out of it and it's just kind of a mess over there he's more concerned about lining his own pockets and Otani understood that but I think that was also a special place for him that he did love the fans there they supported him well he was friends with trout and the team there so I think he would have thought about it but I still think the Dodgers would have won out in that situation there just because of how often they've won and everything so yeah and I also think it was funny it's the one-year anniversary of otani's last game with the angels and now he makes his debut really with the Dodgers yeah man okay then this is a good one uh great you know great Point here uh I don't know how like if it was one last ditch effort like Ry Moreno Perry Minon knew that Otani was leaving uh and they're just like we're going in we're doubling down why not and either way like from an organizational standpoint like from Dodger fans like I know a lot of Dodger fans would be like trade them like you got to trade him you got to get something for him he's not coming back you've got to you know try to get as much what happened with you know say the you know Padres and Juan sto deal something there because some team would have done something you could have had a future you could have built a core there Angels already have a pretty solid you know pretty decent core with guys Zack Netto Logan Oh hoppy a fan of what they're doing with some things um you could have done so much more uh in the fact that they didn't and then like three weeks later it all blew up and they just gutted it again it felt so angels and I saw somebody saying why is Ry Mareno such a bad owner he spends money just stupid money he's not a good he's a AR Mareno is a SLE ball man like he's not a good dude yeah he he spends money he's not a good dude he spends money on big contract bigname players that aren't necessarily As Good As baseball I'll give him some slack on the uh Anthony randone deal I don't think anyone saw that going south as quickly as it did he went to there as a great player and then just immediately fell apart for whatever reason but like you see the Angels consistently giving out money to players that fail and you don't see the Dodgers doing that you don't see like the Yankees doing that for example it's a very Angel thing where they go out and sign a bigname star and then they just fall apart like they did it to Albert Pool and CJ Wilson and Josh Hamilton and it's just a long list of guys that go there and then just start playing terribly and I think that's related to a lot of their culture and all that they don't know how to build a winning team they know how to get names but they don't know how to win and that's something that was big for Otani and why the angels are where they are and I think Otani was or Moreno was never willing to trade Otani last year because he was still making him a lot of money at the time and he determined like that money is going to be more valuable to me than going and getting three or four prospects that we could bring into our organization so yeah I think Perry Minaj and the GM I don't think he's very good but I also have to say like we don't know because he's been so handicapped byy Moreno it's it's a situation like we saw with Ned klei and the Frank mccort ownership group like you can't blame klei for everything that went on there when they weren't really winning when mccort was such a terrible owner and that's what's happening with the angels we love you Ned kti thanks for building the Dodgers core man but yeah I don't know what's going on with the angels we got you know John Dallas we appre appreciate you man being in here love you buddy SE Sun Legend would have made it to the big leagues blew his arm out what a king Angels fan of the Year love you man um I just thought that the Angels would do exactly what they did honestly uh salty fanbase salty ownership a lot of angels fans have been watching the Dodgers and you know how they've spent money built an organization top to bottom uh they are a Powerhouse they for a lot of the years were you know a standard they were the model uh yeah we're change the banner sorry about that Blake pull that down for me if you can Bob thank you man um it's just it's a cap it's a caper I'm I'm I had no idea that this was the anniversary of him not you know uh playing his last game with the angels last year that shocked me September 3rd versus the A's last year he went 0 for three in five plate appearances drew two walks and that was it that was his last game so one year exactly can we talk about Walker beer a little bit no no can we do it just a tiny bit H you're hosting is that okay I want to ask you man you're here with me BL you're you know chat you guys okay if we talk about Walker beer a bit Scott you're the host you gotta just take this over let's talk Walker berer let's talk Walker berer looking ahead uh with what Walker bu did tonight I've had some conversations recently you know you and I have offre stream about his perhaps role with the team uh going ahead uh with the iffy stuff he showed tonight and I want to say it just because he was he know guy's saying no we gota we've got to talk about it we have to talk about we always talk about oh you know the starting pitcher from the night if it's notable uh just real quick bear with us Blake what are you seeing Trends wise with Walker bu going ahead uh can he be a real piece here or is he just going to tow this line of he's trying to find something that's positive that you can use uh in a in a you know a useful role down the stretch here or is he going to get it man is he going to find some positive run um you know better than he showed tonight I mean the way Walker ber is talking about it I do believe he's kind of making progress to get back on track to being a guy in the rotation I'm still not convinced he's going to be an elite guy that he was before his injury and all that like I think 28 2019 Walker buer long gone but I do think he can be an effective middle of the rotation pitcher and that's kind of just that's the outcome you'd hope for at this point that's what you need him to be you don't necessarily need him to go out there and be an Ace and everything seems like it's trending up he's getting more swing and Miss he's throwing more strikes the break on his pitches look better the command is better so it's encouraging I know Walker buer like I know a lot of times we want to like kind of brush off what a player saying about themselves because they're not going to talk too negatively about themselves but berer has been very honest throughout this whole process early in it he was saying he doesn't feel like himself he doesn't know where the pitch is going when he throws it his mechanics aren't lined up he just felt like a shell of himself and now he's honestly saying like I feel like I'm getting back to normal I know when I make a mistake it's a mistake on my end it's not I don't know what happened and it was a mistake like that kind of stuff is encouraging and it seems like everything's just trending up with him the mechanic are more synced up the stuff is there like it's encouraging it's hard to say we're going to see like an elite pitcher again here soon but I think he can be solid yeah I mean six strikeouts over five allows just you know five hits two of them home runs uh I'm very on the fence about him still I'm more encouraged than I was last start but I'm still in the same place I was um when he started to talk about you know himself getting better that means that I just have a threshold for him he hasn't crossed that threshold yet I if if we're talking about the arms coming back or you know trying to piece together a playoff rotation uh he's still on that outside he's on that five he's he's on the very back end there uh and I'm kind of at the point where if Landon Knack comes up and has a couple successful turns I really think that I have I have Lana neck ahead of Walker bu just based on consistency uh stuff he's shown while in the big leagues uh and just I don't think he's as volatile as Walker be that might be crazy but it's just I think that the contact Walker Beer's given up just yeah you could you could you could pick and choose you could pick and choose but I'm just on that that Lana has shown enough where I don't want my guy having to continuously search for what he's got I feel that Walker beer can transition to a different role whether it's a short spurt thing whether it's a multi- inning guy but as starting pitcher like going multiple turns he's not going to be on my you know top four not a chance my push back would be I don't think Landon Knack is the guy that's going to go multiple turns through a lineup either I think they're in a pretty similar spot I think Knack had a lot of luck going for him he was pitching well and playing well but there's some indicators in there that say like some aggression would come with a bigger sample size so as great as he has been I'm not sure I'd fully trust him in any big playoff moment or just any moment big moment at all in general I don't trust berer yet but I think he's trending in the right direction and I think the Dodgers kind of see that too and that's the reason he's still around instead of Landon Knack I think they're hoping berer just something totally clicks for him and he can find what made him a lead again I don't think they're that hopeful for it but they have said like we're not gonna fully give up on him we believe that point yeah no you're right there's no need to give up on him we all agree with that there's no need to give up on him I understand your thing like my my thing is that it's not so yeah it's just l a knack I'm talking about that it's the confidence in what Walker ber has that if there's somebody else out there um you know if it's a land aack type if it's anybody else if it's anybody else it's a possibility of him just getting shuffled out that's my point that he's On The Fringe of it that if there's something goes on and then they feel more confident about L and Knack I'm not going to be so you know blown away that they opt for a different route that's my biggest takeway from it I'm not sure he's On The Fringe though necessarily until guys get healthy though I think if anyone was on the Fring it's more Bobby Miller to begin with so I think Walker buer in his last three starts has kind of put him given himself a little safety net there I think if he has like another bad start or two in a row then that's something they'd start to talk about again but right now he's trending up and I don't think they see him on The Fringe as much I'm not sure they fully believe in him yet I'm not sure they'd give him a playoff start but it's worth seeing what he can do over the next month I think sure yeah I don't yeah I see people talk about Bobby Miller too I agree yeah I mean it's Bobby Miller same type of thing he's been so up and down Walker bu at least has not been losing them games that's what we talked about earlier big point there he's not losing them games he's adapting uh and he's continuing to push on he's continuing to push on but none of the stuff has been overpowering uh but I really do like what I've seen out of his knuckle curve usage his fast ball is becoming competitive again the cutter has always been a good pitch through the entire year his cutter has trended way up it's stayed there uh and again tonight you can see when it's located it's a very very plus pitch so he's on a good route I but I'm still in the same exact spot I don't know what it's going to take um I don't know got to be in the strike zone more has to look a bit little bit dominant uh I would have actually liked to see him against Arizona I know when Jeff and I spoke I think it was Wednesday of last week we talked about potential matchups for the Sunday game in it being roesy and I was not sure uh if they were going to go Walker ber and who they would have gone with and roesy or push you know some people back uh but for a pure test I would have liked to have seen Walker bu against a team like the Arizona Diamondbacks just for a matchup based because of what Walker ber did against the Baltimore Orioles because if not for the defense he would have had a good outing great outing against a very very good offense yeah I kind of agree with that I think anything probably would have been better than ruesi there I think I do think ber would have had a better day than rki did which isn't saying much to be fair but I would also say I think it's kind of a good thing that berer got another start where he could build his confidence up that has been an issue for him this year like building the confidence is big for him and for any pitcher really so if he can build on this outing like I think he'd start to earn a little more of your trust and he keep building trust in my book and for me it's kind of a game by game thing with Walker beer like he's looked good as last three games so give him another see how he does and just keep building on that and if you keep seeing progression then maybe he ends up being a playoff starter at some point I don't fully buy into that yet but I mean it's hard to be totally against what he's done so far right on right on see some people asking about Bobby Miller and what he's going to do tomorrow Blake while I've got you here uh against an Angels lineup it's good to have you know these starts where you can get some work and you can kind of experiment some with some things um what are you thinking of with Bobby Miller tomorrow I'm hoping he can have a start like he did two starts ago where he looked encouraging I don't think we're GNA see like anything breakthrough from Bobby Miller he's dealing with a knee injury now and trying to pitch through that so that's hurting him I just want to see him keep them in the game and maybe show some flashes of being good again if he allows four runs in five or six Innings like I think we can take that we won't be necessarily happy with it but yeah there's also a world where he goes out there and pitches two or three Innings and allow seven runs so I'm hopeful he can just keep them in the game maybe show some more strikeout stuff swing and Miss maybe a little better command this time out and just kind of keep building on his last two starts I know his previous one wasn't as good it took a step back but still wasn't as bad as he has been for a lot of the year so that's really all I'm looking for chat put your prediction for Bobby Miller uh tomorrow against the angels I really want to see what you all think uh and if it's in line with what Blake's thinking uh do you have a statline prediction give me some baseline I want to compare it let's see Chad I want to see something I'll say five innings four runs and six strikeouts and three walks see some eyeballs in there yep five innings three ear runs six Innings three ear runs people saying Bobby Miller six Innings nine punch uh four earn runs could you live with that six Innings nine K four ear runs yeah I'd be happy with that start to be honest I think that might be the peak that we get from him right now I don't think we're getting too much better than that with him and I know a lot of people are saying like it's the Angels without trout or the angels flying is bad they have a few good hitters in there yeah so I agree like they're still a quality they're not a quality they're still a major league baseball team with the ability to score runs and I'm not sure how confident we can say Miller is like a major league pitcher at this point I think he might be the quadruple a tier until he figures things out I think they've got a couple guys in there who can punish mistakes I mean it's like a lot of Major League lineups uh but I'm a big fan of Zack Netto and Logan o hoppy you know used to cover you know do a lot of stuff writing for our Angel site uh I enjoy the core that they have there uh they've got to figure some stuff out on the peripherals uh in organizationally as well but they're young guys uh I really do like what I see from them without a doubt uh and Ron Washington is that gritty old vet manager uh who's gonna hopefully get them there or just be a placeholder until yeah Ben Joyce is a nice fell too he's a terrific arm 106 miles an hour round it up I can't get over that I I still can't believe I saw 106 yeah you saw 105.5 they did I saw 105.5 but it said 106 whatever St here and St Nelson scream 106 and did you in the in the post game or in the end of the game was the best thing ever yeah that was pretty crazy that was awesome man uh all dodg with Clint Clint what's up man good to have you in here let's see what he got here postseason starting picturing an order of importance in his opinion uh Yamamoto glass now flarity uh Gavin Stone Walker ber Clayton Kershaw Bobby Miller Bullpen game Landon Knack Justin roesy good stuff thanks you man for joining we appreciate you um a bull a bullpen game in a postseason would be something um are there any just as a funny one is are there any starters on there not counting Landon Knack and Justin roesy that you would start a bullpen game over yeah when I was talking to Jeff on Sunday I I put Bullpen game is my fourth starting pitcher for the postseason with the options right now if Yamamoto and glass now come back and flarity and stone are still pitching well that changes but if Yamamoto or glass now miss a start or something or they're just not healthy for whatever reason I think Bullpen game would be like my next man up kind of thing I don't have a ton of trust in berer Kershaw or Miller in a bullpen or in a playoff start so I think Bullpen game I think the Dodgers could string that together well enough and they've done it in the past so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities for them and their Bullpen has been crazy their Bullpen has been unbelievable and you know they could be I wrote a little editorial on Edgardo henriquez today and someone also to keep an eye out for uh the a fast riser in the Dodgers organization uh it just doesn't happen by chance it's deserved so he's someone to keep an eye out for um yeah eron Bullpen games in the postseason would be a lot a lot of things would have to line up for that to be a possibility um but I agree with you man depending on what we see in the matchup with Walker ber Clayton Kershaw and we still don't know what we're going to get to see from see from Clayton there that it's been a step back we'll see the availability of him uh in that toe and how it you know looks forward um how quickly are you expecting Clayton Kershaw to rebound and again where's you know trust level there is there any from you right now not really I think the injury is probably going to keep him out through the season I don't have much confidence he's going to come back of course Dave Roberts does his word hopeful which that's what he says for every single injury that's ever happened to the Dodgers I just I don't know he's in a walking boot now it's I don't really see a realistic path for him to come back and build up in time and be a legit starter for the playoffs so I know someone in here said let me see if I can find it that I'd pick a bullpen game over berer even though bu's trending up for me that's if we're talking about right now if berer has two or three more good starts in a row then I think I changed my outlook on that but we talking about playoffs start tomorrow I'm probably trusting a bullpen game to get me through the 27 outs needed over Walker ber and maybe ber factors into that for an inning or two but I don't think you can trust buer going out there in a playoff start and giving you five or six Innings until we see more from him yeah and again chat uh if you're listening to this you know watching live listening to this post uh you know Blake and I debating this on here I've got a good question for him uh and it might be a lot of the same of what I think and of what you think if it aligns up there the the trust with walker buer uh me having some mental thing with trusting Walker bu you know he's showing that he's going to keep the team in games I was going to give him a solid run of starts here and buy in I'm going to listen to what he says just because Walker ber has spoken before about how he would like to dive in uh to the you know the the really get into the depth of how he breaks down pitching mechanics stuff from that front that he doesn't really speak to the media about uh in listening to him be very honest and open what kind of I know I'm on might be on an island where I can see him keeping the team in games and going from there but I just I need something else I need a little bit more to really have me you know go with that trust on Walker ber there and I believe it'll keep keep a team in games go from there what else do you need to see what's one more thing you need to see from Walker be to really put him in the category where you throw him out there you're comfortable in a big against a big matchup he's going to give you five allow two gonna go six allow three what's that thing it's a tough question I think there's a lot of different ways he could take this like I think more strikeouts and swing and Miss would help him get to that point I think more consistency and efficiency with his pitches being able to get deeper in a game would help him or he doesn't Tire himself out so early throwing a lot of blls like I think it would be really hard for him to get to a point where I fully trust him this year I think I could get to the point where I trust him is like it's your number four starter it's your number five starter like you're never going to have full trust in them but you don't hate the option of sending him out there that make sense like I don't know I I would need to see a dominant outing from him probably and maybe two in a row yeah that's a good point get some fiery buer back out there I think that would help he's bringing it yeah he's bringing the fire he's definitely bringing the fire when he's out there you can see you know it's a consistent frustration when he has a you know a pitch in mind a a spot that he you know that he wants to hit uh so he's competing and one thing you can take away from you know 21 is you know his ability to go out there and compete so that's something that he's maintained uh even at his lowest points he's continuing to compete uh round 60% strikes today uh 31% called strike plus whiff rate uh on the night so I'm taking it as a positive step but they're with the caveat that there was some good there was some bad he kept them in the game six strikeouts on the night that's up uh from the four that he had uh in his last start um against the Baltimore Orioles there we're going to get into the last thing here yeah go ahead I think the thing for me with berer is it's really going to come down to the health of their other pitchers he's if glass now Yamamoto flarity and stone are all healthy and pitching well like I think that's your clear top four there and I don't think anyone's really going to debate that too much I think that's a great group there if Yamamoto or glassnow are out or something happens to flarity or stone and then you're talking about a different replacement I think there is a level you could get ber to where you're like okay he's fine as our number four guy if your other options are Bullpen game Bobby Miller or whoever else so I think the trust levels that you'd need to have to start ber in a playoff game really vary by who's healthy and what else is going on with their rotation and I'm very happy that they found something at least to lean on uh with his usage here four seam fastball usage is back up and that knuckle curve uh he's been showing it you know flashing it in different quadrants of the strike zone there uh Landing it for strikes getting some punch on that emphasizing his cutter uh in good counts so when it's located it's a terrific pitch it has been we've talked about that uh his slider sweeper usage is down in the barrel which is where it should be essentially if they found something and from what we've seen there's been positive results there it might always not always look dominant uh but at least they're on the road they're working their way back uh to something there so I agree with you a lot of people saying you know great points Blake that's why I got you on here man yeah you're going to keep it the way it is tonight's a big night essentially with the progression in from Yo with yoshinobu Yamamoto uh he had another rehab outing today um what did we see from him a lot of pitches he didn't have command he had some trouble putting away batters I would say that's to be expected on most rehab assignments they don't always go the way that are planned or you hope for they're shaking off R Us they're working on things the biggest thing for me is about how he feels tomorrow when he comes out of it after a day if there's no lingering issues or any pain other than soreness that's normal for a pitcher after throwing I think it'll be a positive day for him I'm not going to be too concerned about anything the results are what they are it happens in rehab outings you don't have the same adrenaline there's just so many different circumstances that go into it so we'll see how he comes out of it I think they're probably going to give him one more Rehab start at least I know they talked about having him potentially coming back after this rehab outing probably not ready for that point so I think he'll get one more Rehab start and go from there but as long as he's healthy I'm happy with the outing that's pretty much all that matters in rehab starts absolutely Godfrey's got that right there health is the most important thing uh GI brought up looks like his fastball vo was sitting at 95 pretty much in line so encouraging stuff uh absolutely agree we've talked about a ton and everybody in our chat has kind of falling in line with that that the health of Yamamoto uh is going to either make or break the confidence level uh in the starting rotation heading into October uh and hopefully a deep playoff run because with Tyler glass now which we'll get into right now um it's right it's it's a little bit ahead for me because Yamamoto is gonna be that guy that we've seen him pitch on the you know the big like a big stage so far in Yankee Stadium uh he's been in Ace for many years prior to joining the Dodge ERS uh I think he's just a little bit you know he's at the tippy top he's at the tippy top I need to see him come back head up that rotation there hopefully get him in a game one then for my opinion we'll talk about this some more on another stream maximizes usage hopefully in a deep postseason run um now with Tyler glass now I'm not sure if you wanted to talk about him but if you had any other update uh with Tyler glass now here um what's the current status with him uh and where's he's kind of at yeah so he's been playing catch the main thing is he's been using this time to work on his mechanics more and try and straighten some of that out he thinks when he gets that back on track a lot of the other issues will kind of go away and'll get back to being like that Ace level pitcher he was before and they hopeful that he's gonna come back he said himself like he's very confident he's gon to be back before the season ends so I would say late September is probably a decent timeline for him he still got to throw off a mound and like bring up the intensity of his throwing sessions and then face hitter is in a rehab assignment but yeah I mean I think late September is a realistic timeline for him he just can't have any more setbacks because if he has another setback then probably won't see him again this year yeah yeah it's got to be things got to click perfectly and then even then if you're talking about late September you're talking about not heavy Bullpen usage but something where you have to limit him coming back in a first round series here um maybe even like yeah you have to limit him or have a piggyback somebody that you feel confident in coming in the game and just have your Bullpen ready to go uh we'll talk about those possibilities uh the closer we get uh Hawaiian Kira I saw you put in who was catching for Yamamoto in Yankee Stadium it was Will Smith just for you know an FYI there uh any other injury updates that we've got right now um graterol started his rehab today I didn't get to see how it went yet I think that happened during the game while I was doing all the coverage and all that so I think he went one inning if I'm not mistaken hopefully someone in the chat can throw it in there for us but yeah that's just another positive thing for them like if Groll comes back it just makes the bullpen that much better and same thing it's just kind of about his health for me I'm not too focused on any results or anything but yeah I mean hopefully works out and I guess we did mention earlier like briefly kersha is probably going to be in the walking boot I don't think that part of this segment but yeah he's still dealing with inflammation and he's going to get the walking boot so who knows when he's going to come back if he does they're hopeful he comes back but I I would probably say that's not likely it's just some Innings absolutely they just need to find the inning somewhere they've gota they've got to find something they've got a build out of rotation there if it's Clayton Kershaw's in there then we see him uh and then he has a good run that they feel confident in if not they're going to have to Pivot and then hopefully you know Bank on the you know something else um quick note that we didn't talk about earlier doing you know a little bit of game recap uh with angry mooki bets him uncorking an absolute seed from right field to the plate to Halt the Ang to to keep them Angels off the board there uh in the bottom of the 10th so before I forget I saw somebody bringing up and I wanted to toss that back up to you Blake uh it was great to see Angry mookie bets there in the 10th inning I can't lie I'm still Juiced about it it's pretty impressive to see a short stop kick out the right field and uh make a play like that all right we're going to just toss into questions now again thanks everybody for joining 1100 in here tonight on a Tuesday a Tuesday Blake and Scott Knight I'm not sure if I'll be on here on Thursday so we're shuffling a couple things around here uh but we're up here tonight on a Tuesday so if you got questions uh any super chats toss them in all caps questions uh and we'll get right to those uh Joe man I've seen you in chat all night I'm gonna need you to chill out on the all caps that's been that's been crazy you've had some wild takes I know I usually call him Blake when I text him on the side Blake me a wild take but I mean there's a lot of dogs on the team you can keep that to yourself because there's a lot of dogs on the team otani's a dog Mook shon's a dog T Oscar's a dog you're you're on an island there you're on an island there do we get to 100 wins Blake probably not I think they're on Pace for like 97 or something around there so I don't I don't think so yeah M's a freaking dog decoy is a dog no pun intended literally a dog literally a dog Blake's favorite not his own dog all right where does ber land next year I don't know back with the Dodgers on a prove a deal let's say the Brewers oh don't do that that' be they're a pitching Factory I think he might prefer to go to somewhere like that they need pitching they're all they're never gonna give out like a big contract so I don't know that's a great fit for him oh my God don't do that or the Rays even he probably would he probably would ber is a very that's he would absolutely do that yes he would go yeah Farhan would give berer a flyer sure without a doubt he definitely would he he might go up to the Giants pitchers ballpark you know Chris what's the chance M Max Muny gets the platoon treatment like Gavin Lux 70 I I think that's actually it he has like a 70 weighted R Grad Plus this year against lefties Lux was at like a 30 so there's a pretty significant difference there I think it's going to be a lot of matchup based like who's the Lefty on the mound and stuff like that if it's a really tough Lefty with a lot of strikeouts I think that might be more the day to give Mony a day off but if it's soft tossing lefty or someone without Elite stuff I think mon will probably be in there more often than not yeah and like the platoon options for both of them it opens up the team for some later game like Gavin Lux early in the year even when he was at his you know the floor of his struggles like when he was as bad as it got he was still hitting uh with runners in scoring position that was the stat that people were bringing up so when he was there like Gavin lucks on the bench he's gonna get bad on ball he's gonna do all right there so if you get one of them on the bench like if you don't if you're saying that your number one bench option uh is Kevin kerm you might not feel as confident but when you're talking about the possibility of maybe you know Max Muny Gavin Lux it just boosts that up all around so you can pick your poison there uh one or the other it's going to be that that might be a thing that gives them another second option there absolutely all right see anything there Blake yeah I start a few here this one was from earlier this one so we'll get into it comparing stats here Jose Ramirez is approaching a 4040 season do you think moo could have approached a 4040 season if he didn't get hurt I don't think he steals enough yeah that's how I felt I don't I don't think he would run enough to do that he he takes the occasional bag but probably not I could see him maxing out of like 15 to 20 stolen bases probably yeah Jonathan just got here with doing questions yes doing questions if you toss one in there we'll put it up and you just did uh what will Gavin Stone's role be in the postseason what do you what do you see for Gavin Stone buddy number four starter at this point that's assuming everyone's healthy if everyone's not healthy probably number three number two maybe even hopefully not but maybe so I think he'll be starting I think he's one of their top five options so I'd be surprised if he isn't cool Ed Rico I saw you put this in here again I'm gonna toss it up here for Scott you mentioned you don't like Closer by committee if it were up to you what would the roles of our quartz head of Hudson Blake TR and Michael copc and Evan Phillips what would that be um I think that Michael copc is a star arm I think he is built for the spot I think he's built for the ninth inning or whatever the you know save situation is I think he's just got that stuff I Blake kept it in check when Evan Phillips was kind of shaky it was put him in a a lower leverage role and let him work his way back up from there and that's exactly what they did so I give Blake a ton of credit there he's like don't put him down in Triple A don't figure don't iil him nothing just let him work on it and he did so I think that Evan Phillips at a spot where the you know the data where the front office where Dave Roberts feels it's best I say you put him in the spot that it's called for uh and copek there Evan Phillips in the fireman and you deploy uh Daniel Hudson and Blake Trin in how you want I you know we have to see Daniel Daniel Hudson's got a lot of work to do uh to because of that big break they gave him they didn't iil him they just gave him that big mental reset so there's still some question marks surrounding him but Blake Tran again he's going to have some nights that he looks filthy uh in nights where he gets hit around a little bit where that Cutters not get inside slider's kind of hanging up and he's you know his Sinker is staying in his own or he's not able to land it stuff like that so I would say you put you deploy the three outside of Michael copc where they you see fit and where it's best but if you're asking me like top to bottom uh it's going to be Michael copc in the ninth Evan Phillips in the second highest leverage spot uh that's not the ninth inning uh and then go try and Daniel Hudson kind of mix and match those there um however you'd like it but I say that Michael copc right in that in that ninth inning I think a lot of people agree with that from what we've seen and I don't think there's a wrong way to put those you know the rest of them just make Evan Phillips the the fireman absolutely he's star he's a star in that role he excelled in that role for for a bit all right show $2 Super Chat from John appreciate you man always being here show some love for Old Reliable Miggy row man migy row where we segment here huh we had a big Migo segment earlier gave him a lot of love show some more you're on the spot you know give me give me 30 seconds for migy RO go ahead 30 seconds y okay well uh he's a great defender uh great guy great teammate great Clubhouse leader the bat has been really surprising everyone this year I mean he's been everything the Dodgers have needed and more he's blown past expectations yeah you can't say enough good things about migy row I mean it's hard to imagine where they would be without him this year especially when mooki got hurt and they lost their starting short stop I know he came back to right field but that was because Miguel roas went out there and earned to roll over Jason Hayward and everyone else they had so yeah he's been a key part of this team this year and probably one of the more underrated players in baseball Chad you guys love migy r i see a lot migy R is solid migy R has been a man migy goat migy drives a nice car he knows his wine mig's got a lot of shoes so yeah he's he's he's been a guy where would we be without Miguel roas story of the the 2024 Dodgers where would they be without Miguel roas and now there's been a lot of stuff I'm seeing things like Miguel roas and shani's relationship that's just been an awesome thing all year right have you seen that too yeah it's he's gets along with everyone he's a clubhouse leader he's a glue guy he's someone everyone kind of Trends toward and has a relationship with so he's just a great guy to have around for any team Miguel roas you like jazz I don't think so um let's see Larry this is an interesting one what would the Dodgers bench look like in the playoffs you got a you have an early answer there kind of what we currently seeing you know Andy pz cracking that thing yeah that's my biggest question there I think PES fits the role nicely but they haven't used him in the role yet that he would fill like I think PES would be a great platoon option with Gavin Lux where you slide in Muki to Second and then put pis in right field versus lefties I think that would give the Dodgers their best lineup on a nightly basis they haven't seemed willing to do that so I could see him making the bench as like a pin hitter type player I guess it would be over Chris Taylor which makes sense I don't really see Chris Taylor having a big role in October unless he keeps platooning with Lux so like he has a case there too because he has played well when platooning and filling in for Lux since coming back so it's a tough question I mean Barnes is probably the lock and then I'm G to go ke as a lock Miguel not Miguel roas um it it depends if km is starting or not so I'll go CM just saying Rus is a starting role one more Chris Taylor I guess yeah I mean okay it's tough cuz then who am I excluding there PES yeah like it probably comes down to Chris Taylor or PES and recently they've been more willing to give Chris Taylor the runway than PES so it's a good question it's a very good question it's gonna come down to versatility how they like their rotations um I see a lot of there's a lot of mixed mixed stuff there yeah there's definitely a lot of mixed stuff there ct3 is gone for the playoffs Godfrey I see you in there uh Dave loves Chris Taylor yeah I mean it's GNA come down to who they feel uh can have the biggest you know kind of impact and I think you know depending on what team has what if they've got a lot of Lefty starters if they're what they're throwing at Bullpen like it'll come down to it and how they see Chris Taylor factoring in as just just like Blake said as the platoon stuff here there is another question here about should Lux be playing every day against Lefty sitting Taylor because he doesn't offer much and I feel like this is related to it Gavin luck should not be playing vers lefties I posted about that earlier today on our DOD Twitter account like he's been one of the worst hitters in the league against lefties so I have absolutely zero issue with them platooning him they should be platooning him and Chris Taylor I think in August he was like a 140 waed R cre plus guy against lefties like he's been really effective vers them and that is why he's playing out there he had a solid game yesterday another solid game today like I'd push back on he's not providing anything he seems to be their clear number one option to platoon with him and while still make the case for PES being that guy they don't seem willing to do that so I do think Chris Taylor has a role on this team I think he's figured it out more from where he was earlier in the season and that's not gonna say he's goingon to be like an elite Difference Maker in the playoffs but he is a guy who can come in and take an at bat vers Lefty and you don't feel terrible about it because he's been fine there recently yeah it's a really good question it's definitely a storyline to you know keep tabs on uh when the roster Crunch and and how they kind of deploys these guys so if you're keeping a mentor note chat on the opportunities that Dave gives like Gavin Lux against lefties Chris Taylor Andy P has it's something to keep note of on who performs where you know how they make those swaps because it's going to be something in the final month this stretch here uh and and how they really deploy them and and fill out a roster fill out that bench so it's a good question here uh Chris you see all these takes about Francisco Lindor being the MVP over show Otani dudes on Pace be the first 5050 guy 50 home runs 50 stol bases what are we talking about like what are we talking about man what are we what are we talking about gu Plastering screenshots of f War all over the place like let's not do this let's not do this New York media like I know you don't think highly you don't watch you don't stay up to watch these West Coast games we get it man we understand what are we doing here come on yeah I I was debating this with a Mets fan in my fantasy baseball chat today we've had a lot of back and forth about it like personally I don't care too much about the awards and I think Otani has already clinched winning the award so I don't even think it's a real debate besides for New York Mets fans and media trying to make like a case and an argument there for him the award's wrapped up but yeah the case is about his F War which my issues with that is first of all Lindor is a short stop he should be having a higher War than a DH you're not like making any major Breaking Point here by saying this great short stop has5 more FW than a DH to me that's saying like wow a DH is doing something that he shouldn't be doing that is insane that is incredible like they don't understand how good a DH has to be doing to keep up with a solid hitting Short Stop who's also Elite defensively it to me it's like saying yeah a wide receiver is going out there putting up a thousand receiving yards and that's better because he's not the running back who's putting up 800 receiving yards like you expect the wide receiver to go put up those numbers just like you expect the shortstop to have a higher War than a DH so the fact that they're even close at all it's saying a lot more about sh Otani than it's saying anything about Lindor and that's not to take away anything from Lindor he's an amazing player but Otani is just in another world right now and war is such like it's not the perfect stat we value it we use it a lot but it's not the end all and there's different formulas and calculations for it matter what like website you go to to look at it baseball reference has Otani with 7.1 compared to lindor's 6.1 or whatever it is and a0 five War difference between them isn't a major thing to begin with it's pretty much negligible if it's not like one war difference you're not really talking about all that much of a difference between them and again it's a DH versus short stop the short stop is going to be overvalued by War and the DH will be undervalued by War so I don't know they're just trying to make things out of nothing and make a case for their guy which I get Dodger fans would be doing the same thing I know we bragged a lot about M bets last year being the MVP but I think aunia did run away with it at the end in September Muki kind of fell off there so went to the rightful winner but yeah it's otani's award the race for it is over all the you know I don't people sending me betting numbers and all that stuff like it's a landslide for Otani like this guy you know sh Otani having is this the best offensive season of his career like Yeah by far like by far what are we talking about here like I get it like people brought it up in chat you guys are nailing head like Blake well great awesome Ram man like hats off to you that was terrific like I probably have some more in there he's Blake see guys that's why that's why I get Blake on here like he's got stuff in the chamber ready to go um on a a plethora of topics uh but stuff like this it's so cut and dry what sh Otani is doing day in and day out we're talking about the first 5050 season from a DH his success rate on Stolen Bas bases is unbelievable uh we're gonna we're seeing stuff we've never seen before in his first year in a Dodgers uniform it's East Coast media trying to do their thing but the money's not following it in terms of betting not a chance like Lindor terrific season from him but it's so heavily weighted so heavily weighted because of shortstop defense on what he's doing there yeah man it's it's not this isn't this is a debate between East Coast media trying to make it make it a thing that just not going to be defense has like never in its history been any like de cider in any MVP voting ever like fans bring it up and people bring it up from time to time but when was the last time it went to a player for their defense over the insane offensive season it just never happens and also if we want to talk about pure value Mets fans will argue that like Otani is only playing 20% of the games because he's just hitting he's not going out there and playing the field I'll say the case Otani is more valuable because he deferred his entire contract to make two million this year and allowed the Dodgers to go sign Yamamoto glass now T Oscar Hernandez they're not paying him a ton they're paying him two million this year like that's got to count for something that's got to be valuable if Lindor took less money deferred money then maybe the Mets would be in a playoff spot maybe they'd have some pitching maybe they have some more pieces around him like what you guys do what' you guys do you unleash something it's 11 o'clock here he's going to be texting me till like 3 in the morning saying can't sleep still fired up yeah Brandon where yeah War has ruined baseball discourse yeah what happened to the game we loved Matt's gonna love this segment because he's just gonna be nodding his head like stats give it to me but what we're seeing is just historic like it's not even being like fans all over baseball see what's going on here like they they understand what sh oton is doing this is purely based on East Coast media trying to do their thing stack the deck turn the make an argument of out of nothing like at least make it a discussion it's not going to be like let's not do this let's not do this dude's going to hit get 5050 Chad if you were on with you know the show that I was on with Jeff he asked me is he gonna get 5050 I was like you know over the weekend against the Diamondbacks if he gets you know a couple dude went nuts like he he checked it he's getting 5050 by what he's going on he wants it too so we were also talking like May less than a month ago about how catel Marte was the runner up in MVP like you want to have that debate catel versus Lindor go for it but Otani has won the award already like it's over Kel doesn't get hurt he's the second guy could tell was having a crazy year before getting hurt yeah man great question who did that who said that Chris awesome appreciate you man join us always great segment uh Tam we got a super chat here uh didn't miss this just had to backlog it for a sec Yamamoto probably gets one more Rehab start throws 50 pitch tonight two innings uh one more Rehab start kind of in line there man probably they wanted him to get through three Innings and then go through another inning in the bullpen so I think get one more like okay it didn't go exactly the way they wanted it to as long as he's healthy I'm not gonna be concerned about it but yeah I think one more is in the books there sure not out of the question let's get him back where they feel comfortable uh velocity readings in a good place there I'm excited to see the numbers coming out from his you know secondary stuff there uh seeing the data on that that's something I'll be looking out for uh hopefully we get a chance to talk to you guys about that yeah Kenny he threw 53 pitches you were at the Bro man you saw this year at the game tonight 80% Dodger fans sold out playoff atmosphere mooki absolutely get hyped great night it was a good night definitely a game that was boring halfway through um basically all the way till the 10th inning it was great to see Ben Joyce Uncorked at you know 105 and a half uh fun baseball thing fun 10th inning good to see Jose kiata win a World Series Hoist the title that was good stuff I like OT in baseball there's not enough of it uh but it was even better to see M bets demolish a hanger uh and put the game away all right get do a couple here uh knowing GI thanks for the question man good to see you as always knowing that nine of the last 12 games are against the Colorado Rockies and the Miami Marlins what record do you want to see them in the next 10 games after Anaheim when they face Cleveland Chicago Atlanta for you to feel comfortable I record you don't have to give an exact record just what do you want to see just keep playing quality baseball you're not going to win every game but go out there be competitive and put yourself in a position to win every game like if they finish this five and five I'd be happy like I don't think I'd be thrilled or anything but at least they didn't have a losing week and ideally what you want is six and four seven and three something like that but as long as they maintain quality baseball and don't like fall off a cliff or anything I think they're fine they're gonna they're going to be in the playoffs I don't I don't think the Diamondbacks or any or the Padre's are going to go on a run where they're going to win 10 of their next 10 and like catch up in the division or anything so just one enough to keep a lead absolutely and the series against Diamondbacks I think I yeah Echo with what you said I'm not going to give like an exact you know breakdown like what I think record-wise but facing a Diamondbacks rotation of you know a collection of four starters that possibly pitch in the postseason like these guys you know um Eduardo Rodriguez Brandon fought Merill Kelly and Zach Gallen and you come away three or four out of that with the Diamondbacks pitch and giving up a ton of runs an absolute ton of runs and the Dodgers offense you know stepped up to the plate there just like we said took care of business against Baltimore I know that you know the pitchers they face weren't the best but you did the job against Corbin Burns so I think for me it would just be continuing you know same type of stuff be competitive against you know pitchers that you feel provide a big matchup you know a solid test for your offense because right now as long as they maintain this division lead it's the same question if you followed us here uh for a bit is I just wanted to see stuff in moments you know against big pitchers against stuff that's going to provide them with a test uh and that's what I'll continue to look forward to because the Diamondbacks have a a pretty decent schedule coming up here Padres is not so much but the Diamondbacks have some tests here I just want to see the Dodgers just like they did tonight show up when it matters show up in these Runners and scoring position spots continue these plus Trends uh with the stuff that you have to look forward to going you know going into the playoffs don't don't choke when it matters most step up against big pitchers make them work get to these bullpens and then we can stack these positives and kind of what this team's made of show it show the emotion in the big spots when it matters you know man because last year at this time we were just saying how are they going to rise up to it I think they won the lead the division by 16 games last year it's it's got to be a spot where you have this manufactured um emotion and manufactured kind of pressure and I think they're finding it in these different spots so that's what I'm G to be looking out for again same same stuff here you see something you like in a question bag yeah a few people of us this magic number is 18 if you want a quick formula for figuring it out it's 163 minus the number of First Place team wins minus the number of second place team losses that gives you your magic number so 18 the Padre's have 61 losses the Dodgers have 84 wins right on yeah Larry Dodgers need a win you win each series and they can't be caught absolutely take care of business worry about you as always Focus game to game there don't scoreboard watching is something that you know Freddy Freeman has talked about not doing uh recently that you know what if you do that you're you're going to get beat you're going to watch the other teams here and go from there uh why you smiling everyone saying I'm good at math but I have the calculator up so D yeah not a math guy he's a Star Wars guy and dude just knows ball and you have hats 31 Flavors of hats all right lot of Bob lot of said great to see you man lot of selfless ABS in Arizona by mooki first game is this a theme show hotani and Max Muny pulling gra balls move Runners to third what are some things that have stood out to you I don't need specific instances but if you have some in the memory bank uh what are you kind of seeing with I'm not GNA say A different brand of offense here but a productive brand of offense from the Dodgers recently just feels like everyone's clicking for me sure I don't think Muki has taken like selfish or selfless ABS I think he's just going up there and trying to put up his best at BS which I guess if you want to say that selfless sure but he's just trying to do his job and help the team win I would say there was a big complaint about Shi for a lot of the year that like he was pressing and struggling and trying to be selfish with runners in scoring position I think that comes with just baseball like we saw the Dodgers lineup for a lot of the year he probably felt like he had to step up a little bit and that can hurt you I mean I think there's just always ups and downs with players where you're going to see more productive at bats and some stretches where they're just driving in everyone and completely on fire some stretches where they're cold so yeah I mean mooki has been great and I expect that to continue but I think he's always been pretty good and you're gonna expect that to continue because he is Mookie bets and they're paying him for to be mookie bets absolutely absolutely and uh where are you at David absolutely Scott and Blake great show tonight we appreciate you again 1,200 in the building uh thanks everybody for joining uh make sure you hit the like subscribe notification Bell yeah absolutely uh we got a super chat here Alonso what's up man with the postseason around the corner how many postseason games do Blake and Scott attend a loaded question might depend how the Dodgers go how yeah how deep do they go I mean I can tell you you know Alonso again thanks for the Super Chat 10 bucks as always man uh I don't know I don't know how many I'll make it to it's a busy time definitely it's definitely a busy time I love the atmos I can tell you how many I've attended in the past like I've been to uh like seven game series stuff I've been doing like five game series stuff I think the 2015 Series against the Mets I was at every single home game uh that series absolutely hit me in the gut like I've been to a lot against 2019 against the national I think that was the last postseason stuff postseason action I've been to was in uh 2019 game one in the nlds like that was Euphoria and then since then it's just been kind of tough for me to get out there I don't know about this year though yeah I I expect to be at the Dodger home playoff games depending on who they play might make it out to some of the road games we'll see um last year I only made it to one we had Matt at the first two games and then I went with him to Arizona and of course that was a three- game series that didn't actually happen you know so yeah we'll see this year just felt like a nightmare I went to bed and then everybody I woke up and everybody said this the season was over and you know the Rangers won them won the World Series seagar's Homer has played in my mind though that's what happened there uh where is Blake going for a vacation in the offseason where you going Lego Land nah I'll probably be at Disneyland quite a bit since I have the pass I expect to be golfing quite a bit since it'll be cooler and I'll have some more free time not really a huge travel person so yeah I don't I don't think I'll be going to too many places far but hey man you go to Disneyland I mean it's pretty much free for me to go until I end up buying food or whatever else Star Wars merchandise I get the parking paid for and yeah my tickets are free so it's good Mr cop said you never been to a playoff game could only imagine uh I can tell you that the game with the chase hutley slide was the best the probably the craziest atmosphere I've ever been been a part of like as a fan like I can't if chat if anybody was in here that was at that same game I just remember seeing Utley just barreling into second base everybody safe and then they challenged the play Runner like he was safe at second I'll just never forget that those were just like lasting memories you know back when the game B back when baseball was a good game and we had no uh pitch clock untime game you could take in the moment yeah you guys all remember that hell yeah Kenny yeah you remember his rockus absolutely unbelievable stuff unbelievable stuff there Alonso you need to uh tell us why like what's going on here can't leave us on that Cliffhanger aonso says he was suspended for Disneyland for a year for almost a year I'll be back in November when my suspension is done oh man uh yeah David if only greny covered third absolutely in that one I'll never forget that stuff wasn't that P wasn't that pig they said he should just drop the ball was was that Ethier I'm not sure I don't remember for who was playing that yeah grinkie should have covered third stuff would have never happened oh my God oh my God guys are G me bad flashbacks here all right I think that's it he's not putting the reply in he might after the show yeah don't answer that all right I think we're going to wrap that there uh as always we appreciate you guys uh thanks for joining in on on a Tuesday edition with Scott and Blake uh Dodgers win extra kns game against the Angels keep that hot streak going uh as always like subscribe bring the notification Bell uh a lot of things in the works at DB hopefully we see you on Thursday I'm not sure I got to talk to Blake see what's going on there uh but again leave some comments and let us know what your thoughts are for tonight uh let us know what you're looking forward to going you know going ahead this next week are you happy with what's going on here you buy into Walker bu you like the emotion you saw from Muki bets I sure h i did um I know Blake does we appreciate you my name is Scott geerman that's Blake Williams as
