Welcome to our Channel US Open Danielle Collins singles Grand Slam career ends in defeat Danielle Collins singles Grand Slam career ended on Tuesday as the 30-year-old lost 1 to six 7 to5 6 to four to fellow American Caroline dohy in the first round of the US Open at the start of the Year Collins announced this would be her final season on the tour saying she wanted to start a family and not spend 40 weeks on the road each year the American who hit a career-high ranking of seven in July 2022 has had a great farewell campaign as she enjoyed a 15 match streak during spring winning titles at the WTA 1000 event in Miami and the WTA 500 in Charleston however she suffered a heat stroke in Paris and picked up an abdominal injury during her quarterfinal against top ranked AA sua Tik at her maiden Bic games the injury forced Collins to pull out of hardcourt warm-up events at Toronto and Cincinnati which affected her preparations for the US Open no one out here is immune to having bad days Collins told reporters I've physically really been through it since the Olympics so it's been a struggle Collins felt she could not bring out her best game against 25-year-old dohy who earned her first career singles victory at the US Open Colin started Strong by taking the first set at Louis Armstrong Stadium but doleh High Ground out the second set on her fifth set point and hit only four unforced errors in the third set for a come from behind win at the end of the match Collins quickly took off for the locker room walking past the yellow bouquet of congratulatory flowers offered by tournament director Stacy alaster I'm still playing the rest of the year or at least that's the plan right now Colin said you never know with life's challenges and health stuff we'll see but yeah I was kind of just thumbed I couldn't play some of my best tennis I was all over the place with my shots I feel like my timing was a bit off and stamina and this and that thanks you for watching stay connected with us for more videos
